Wanted to do a fun little thing with Scruffy and Tikiman from my bud SuperFreaksDev's game, Super Freaks.

It has a goofy co-op mode that lets you use a Knuckles Chaotix style rubberband, it's as goofy as it sounds.

I saw Sherbs and HeyHays tiktoks of their cosplays and was intrigued.

Honestly, I saw it for a bit, but was still in the DSMP phase. Then I saw Sherb cosplay their corrupt character, and as a whore for 'Face-Monster Turn' tropes I immediately started to binge season 1 of Fable.

It took a few months to get through it all, but I finally got up to date - from a rough guess, I believe before Ghae confessed is when I got up to speed.

I joined the discord and started to get into posting stuff to Tumblr, and it's now one of my favourite sites to "fandom-discuss" on!

I was (and still am) kinda shy and awkward and not always the best at talking/meeting with new people, i always feel like i never know what to do or say and constantly worry I come off as too much or weird, but I was still able to make a couple friends through Fable and I cherish them dearly and look forward to that chapter. I've also made friends via a "mutual status," and that's also amazing; recognising usernames across the platforms is like seeing someone you know while you're down-town, or seeing that one person you know at a party, its really nice and I love that this community is incredibly open, caring and supportive, I love talking with all of you, be it theories, headcanons or discussing crack-ships, it's fun to be in a fandom that's super accepting and chill and I love all of you for that.

Fable also pushed me in my "creative talents".

Currently, "Infinitesimal" is by far my most 'advanced'/fancy cmv that I've done and I'm so proud of it, and you bet I have a whole playlist of more songs to do (no, literally, I have a playlist of future cmv songs to keep track of them all). Crafting/sewing the costumes is always a time and a skill I'm hoping to learn more in the future.

Fable is my first media piece of media that taught me about QPR. And I love it. It really is another piece in the line of the domino effect that helped me learn things about myself and even get a little more comfortable with labels and, ultimately, my own feelings. I'm still navigating through them, but I really feel like Fable helped me open my eyes to new things, and with such a supportive community, I feel seen.

Speaking of being seen, I see myself in Rae a lot. I've never related (or, as some say: "kinned") to a character so much before. There were times when people were talking to Rae and I felt like they were talking to me. I hope that when I do my Rae cosplay (and next project - which will be about Rae) I can do it justice, as he's a very important character for me.

I think the content creators of Fable taught me some things, too. For cosplay, streaming, filming/directing, audio/foley editing, writing, freaking playlists!? They're all so insanely cool! Hearing them yap about their works is always so entrancing and my brain is full of little mental post-it notes of things they've done.

Fable SMP will always hold a place in my heart, and I can't thank every single one of you enough for everything.

I feel like I have more to say, but right now, from the top if my head, this is all I got.

You stared blankly at the balcony door, mind whirring with possibilities as to what your fate could be. Your mind flashed back to every time one of the guys’ eyes lingered on you too long, or every moment of heated tension you had with them. Just today you were locking eyes with Jungkook as he knelt before you on the couch and prepared a wax bong for you; the moment felt so intimate despite the fact it was simply stoner etiquette. Oh god, they’re going to know what a depraved freak you are! The content you had saved flashed across your mind, each tag and topic more raunchy than the last. To have your most dark fantasies on display and exposed to- you didn’t even know who!- was undoubtedly an absolute nightmare. 

Fuck Park Jimin, conniving fox of a man, taking his teasing with you so far as to put you into this predicament for his own amusement. You would’ve never guessed he had such a sadistic streak. You would’ve pegged Hoseok as more of the type.

You weighed your options. Option 1.) jump off the balcony and plunge to your indisputable death. That seemed very reasonable. Option 2.) stay on the balcony forever. Didn’t seem likely. Option 3.) be a big girl and get into the house. What you’d do once you get inside is yet to be decided. Baby steps.

You spent far too much time merely stressing out and pondering over your options. Ultimately you took in a deep breath and hesitantly (reluctantly) go for Option 3. You tried to reassure yourself that it wouldn’t be nearly as bad and nerve wracking as your anxious mind is making it out to be. What could possibly happen?

You kept those words in mind as you closed the door as quietly as you could behind you. You snuck past the living room as best you could, still too scared to face the possibilities head on with confrontation. Jimin was no where to be found, as were a few of the other guys.

You almost allowed yourself to take a breath of relief, believing yourself to be in the clear, when you felt a surprising weight on your shoulders. Your eyes flashed to the inked arm, the identity immediately revealed. Your gripped onto the arm slung around you, face whipping around to face Jungkook. Your heart is leaping out of your chest, the gears in your mind spinning, when Jungkook smiles. It disarms you. Despite his bad boy appearance and sexual charm, that bunny-like grin just seemed so innocent. He couldn’t possibly be one of the ones who knows. 

“Hey Y/N, been looking everywhere for ya!” He tugs you along, bicep curling closer to your neck, his muscles bulging slightly. You let yourself be dragged away, your eyes locked in on his arm as you thought about how nice it’d be to sink your teeth in. “How ya feelin’?”

“Oh?” You’re pooled out of your thoughts, trying to keep up as your feet stumble beneath you, Jungkook’s eyes rather distracting.

“Y’know, with the brownies you ate?” 

“Oh, I-I’m fineeee,” you drawled out the words, squeezing his arm assuringly. “Don’t worry about me, Kookie.”

“Really?” His smile suddenly looked more like a snarl, and before you know it you’re pulled into a room down the hallway. It’s a laundry room, the washer and dryer both already on and filled with laundry. Before you could question your scenery change, Jungkook’s let you go and closed the door behind him. “You seem a little needy to me.”

“W-What do you mean?” You couldn’t help but flush as you stammer out the words, as though you were clearly guilty. 

Jungkook’s smirk looked practically sinister, and you feel the color drain from your face as he reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone. “Is this blog not yours, Y/N?”

“N-No,” you blurted out, denying it outright despite how clearly he could see through you.

“No?” He snickered at that, pulling up the blog, letting it stare you in the face. You tried to move away, but his arm juts out behind you, trapping you against the linen closet. You jump as you feel the wood against your back, Jungkook’s bright screen glaring at you with malice. “But it’s got your name right in the bio. And it was airdropped from your phone.”

“What a coincidence,” you murmured, biting your lip as you blatantly lie.

Jungkook’s scowl only deepened, and his hand gripped your jaw, forcing you to look up at him in the eye. “I wouldn’t recommend lying to me, little girl.” You shuddered at that, hands wrapping around his wrist, nails slightly digging in as you whimpered in his hold. “You’re going to tell me the truth now, aren’t you?” Your head is roughly jerked up and down in his hold. He chuckled at that. “Good girl. Now, is this your dirty little blog, Y/N?”

You closed your eyes, not wanting to look up at him in embarrassment. “Yes.”

“Look at me,”  Jungkook sneered, hand slightly tapping against your face in punishment. Your eyes shot up to his once again at his command. “Act like a big girl, why don’t you?” 

“Yes, it’s mine,” you admitted, lip trembling between your teeth.

As another baby Army in her 40s, what do you think of the “omg it’s so romantic when taekook gets angry/pouty jealous because that’s real love and don’t worry baby bear he’s all yours and fear the double bunny and nobody better touch what’s his!” narrative that seems to run deep in so many edits and ‘proof’ videos?  To me, an Old, this is kind of a messed up take. Someone getting angry because you interact with others (in this case, others that you’ve grown up with like brothers!) is NOT this ultimate show of love… it’s controlling and not what young men/women (or any age!) should be holding up as the ideal. I admit I love watching the pouty JK moments because they can be adorable, it’s the comments that make me pause. And, I think (hope) that’s not actually what’s happening in these videos.  I just don’t think these men who have been in such close proximity to each other most of their teen and adult lives would be freaking out about, say, one of them ruffling their leader’s hair or standing next to a bandmate other than each other.

I think they both like to know they're being paid attention to, certainly, but I would reject 99% of "jealous" clips. Usually I can't even see the facial expressions they supposedly have?

The other 1% seems innocuous to me, the kind of silly pouting and interplay that forms part of the flirting and chemistry of a real relationship.

If any of them was as controlling as these videos suggest, I would honestly not even be a fan of the group.

But as you say, it's not about them. They don't even know what someone is going to edit together from their random facial expressions. It's the comments romanticising a super toxic dynamic. If I may contextualise, I was in an abusive relationship for four years. It's not cute. It's damaging and leaves mental scars. So I do have real concern for what's being celebrated here and the ideas that are perpetuated.

I wonder if it's cultural because it's quite a prevalent behaviour in K-dramas too, I noticed. Jealousy being painted as romance. Often k-drama leads just seem like controlling man-babies to me and that's not sexy or cute or hot. It's the last kind of person you'd want your daughter or son to end up with.

I think it's mainly used as shorthand for demonstrating a depth of feeling where in Western media, we might use a sex scene for that. Which arises it's own set of issues, to be honest! No way am I criticising Korean TV. There's plenty of manipulative man-babies and troubling portrayals of romance in Western media too.

We know how media influences our expectations of the world. And these jealousy compilations just seem like an extension of that.

Especially annoying when there are positive examples of "romance" to highlight. Domesticity is ROMANTIC! Caring for each other is the real sexiness! 😂

There you have it! Everything I bought, beat, and tried in 2024! I'm sure I left some stuff off but I mean... I don't care, do you? Be honest.

Also before I finish up I really want to thank everyone for the staggering amount of games my friends and family bought me this year. Money was tough so I was going to miss out on a lot of things I really wanted to play but without me even having to ask people came and got them for me and I seriously cannot express enough how much that means to me. I don't know if any of y'all are gonna read this but it really meant the world to me and I don't know if I even could've made a short GOTY list without everyone being so kind to me. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm bragging or taking friend's money but I just cannot thank you all enough for being so kind and generous to me at every turn even when I don't really have much to give back. Seriously <3

I didn't have any specific goals for what I wanted to play in 2024, but my resolution WAS to play less Fortnite and I did really accomplish that! In fact I basically only played for an hour or two and the start and end of the year and just didn't touch it for the rest of the year. It's small but it's a big victory for me after I wasted so much time on it in 2023 aha.

For 2025? I'm looking forward to properly sinking my teeth into more stuff like continuing my Full RPG series playthroughs with Pokemon Black&White and Final Fantasy 5. I also can't wait to play Fantasian, which I wanted to play in launch year but got so depressed I didn't wanna touch it until I felt better (which is now, I'll be playing it soon.) As well as maybe clearing out some games on my Steam and Itchio libraries. And I've also got my eye on potentially playing the whole Panzer Dragoon series. But we'll see how things play out!!

I think that's pretty much it for me in 2024! Here's to a wonderful 2025, let's give it our best!! I believe in you!

Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1 issue)

We've been introduced to Nick Fury before as an eyepatch-wearing chest hair-having cigar-smoking CIA man of action, but now we're putting him in different duds and calling it a new series.

Welcome to... Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., premiering 8PM EST on September 24, 2013 on ABC. Wait. No, sorry, that's the tv series that only like five people watched.

This story properly introduces SHIELD and Hydra, but it like… it isn’t a very good story on its own merits. Part of that is that I’m unimpressed with Nick Fury. He’s in virtually every panel, but up until the last three pages all he does is either go “bwuh what was that????” at the sciency-fictioney goobers the SHIELD agents use or make dull attempts at snark illustrating how uncomfortable he feels moving out of his day job and into the wacky world of super-hijinks.

Also, there just isn’t a plot; the purpose of this story really is to introduce SHIELD, Hydra, Nick Fury as the head of SHIELD, and all the gizmos SHIELD is famous for using. So, in lieu of discussing plot, here’s the gizmos SHIELD is famous for using:

Life Model Decoys! Which take three drawn-out, boring pages of Nick going “will any of you eggheads tell me what is going on” to display, for some reason.

Like, I don’t hate this issue to be clear. The spectacle of it is fine, and I’m ultimately simple enough to be pleased by a comic that’s just spectacle. I’m just let down by how passive and inconsequential Nick Fury feels to a story freaking named after him, much the same way I feel let down in any issue of the Avengers or Giant-Man where I complain about Janet being a waste of ink.

Good Night, Sweet Summer Child O' Mine...

Yeah, so quick confession time for those who don't know; Yes I do in fact play fortnite. I've been playing basically since 2021. In my experience, alot of seasons since then for me have been either hit or miss for me. While some of them have been really memorable, this particular season however? Fortnite Wrecked (Chapter 5 Season 3) ended up being my absolute FAVOURITE one of all.

Not only did I fuck hard with the heavy-metal, rustic, wasteland-core theming, I enjoyed the hell out of it's greater focus on vehicular combat.

Which made it all the more sad to see this season go today. :(

Before the season officially came to an end though, me and my pals in a discord server I'm in came together for one last set of matches. We came out with 4/5 Ws out of 6 of those, with one particular player amongst us being especially fucking CRACKED at the game, to the point that he was somehow worming his way out of sticky situations any other player would otherwise find themselves dead.

We then followed that up with Rocket Racing, one race on a custom track a friend of ours made, themed around the hit game Super Freaks 1 Ultimate Edition (go check it out and play it if you haven't it's peak), then another race on the Metallica themed track Thrash Mountain. We then proceeded to cap it all off with a jam session playing more Metallica tunes in Festival mode!

Now I may not not have played most of this season throughout the entirety of it's run (I did however tune back in for the Metallica Concert Event in the middle of it), but I more than made up for lost time by getting A LOT of shit done in the 2 weeks I had left and then some.

I know I said it before, but it bears repeating; Wrecked has been hands down the most fun season of fortnite that I've ever had the pleasure of playing with friends in a long while.

The wasteland biome may still be here with us in the next season, but if this is truly goodbye for it's twisted metal, vehicular combat gameplay, then I bid Chapter 5 Season 3, and all it's wasteland monarchs, from the very bottom of my fuel-injected heart...

1. Tweek and Craig offer couples counseling to other kids at recess.

- would definitely be more of a subplot but I can totally see Stan going to them for help with Wendy

- imagine them both dressed up in button up shirts and little ties, and reading glasses, like therapists

- also had an idea where Stan goes to them because the asian girls decided to draw yaoi of him and Kyle, and he's asking them what he should do about it.

2. Tweek and Craig get married

- The whole idea is that they're kids, and you know how kids will just randomly have fake weddings on the playground at recess? it's like that

- it starts at lunch, as per usual, Cartman, Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Butters, Clyde, Tolkien, Jimmy, all sitting together, and Tweek and Craig just randomly walk up and invite them to their wedding

- it's very impromptu, it's literally happening right after the lunch period they're in currently, so everyone's a little surprised.

- so they all go outside and all the children gather around, Jimmy is the officiant (which, you can imagine how well that's going) Tweek and Craig are holding hands with everyone, and they're using RingPops as wedding rings.

- I think it would be really cool to make it kinda parallel to the Tweek vs. Craig season 3 episode ("so, what do we do?" "just smack each other around" "i've never been in a fight before" "awh ok postpone the fight so they can learn how to fight") ("so what do we do?" "you're supposed to kiss" "we've never actually kissed each other before" "awh ok postpone the wedding so they can learn how to kiss")

- "what about when we played super heroes and you guys' ultimate move was literally kissing" -stan

"it was pretend, we were faking." -Craig

- afterwards, the town gets wind of the wedding, and of course, since Tweek and Craig are the pride (no pun intended) of South Park, they decide that it should be more formal, they should wear suits and exchange proper vows and stuff

- meanwhile, Craig's friends are all sucking up to him to try and be the his best man, (they interrupt while Craig and Tweek are very awkwardly trying to learn how to kiss)

- this is an edit but i forgot to mention that Tweek is a total bridezilla and he's freaking out about every little detail

-eventually they actually hold a cute little wedding, not legal, just for funsies, and the whole town attends (Craig tells his friends that none of them can be his best man) They decorate the place with a bunch of Tweek x Craig yaoi art

-Craig has beautiful vows. "I never would've thought that the kid I'd have my first fight with on the playground, would turn out to be my future husband" "When the asian girls first started drawing yaoi of us, it felt like the worst week of my life, but now i think it's probably the best thing that's ever happened to me"

- Tweek's vows were also very well written, but due to nerves, all he could say was "WAAAAH"

- The whole town had a party, they ate cake and Clyde cried, Cartman probably slow danced with "Cupid Me"

- bonus idea, that Tweek's fucking parents come up to him during the reception and tell him that "now that you're married you're supposed to go on your honeymoon and consummate your marriage" because you know Tweek's dad is fucking horrid

- Tweek freaks out, Craig had a plan ahead of time for this and setup the most awesome sexless gamer heaven for their honeymoon

- they spend the next week and a half in Craig's room playing video games and hanging out together for their "honeymoon" and Tweek is finally able to recite his actual vows privately for craig

- and this is why in Post Covid they aren't legally married with rings, because they consider the little stupid wedding they planned as children to be their actual wedding

3. Bradley from S11 E2 (where Butter's goes to conversion therapy) moves to South Park (this one is probably the most developed idea)

- except that this time, he's not the same bible verse-reciting anxious kid from before, and he's completely confident in his sexuality now

- he immediately becomes friends with Butters again, who has to tell him that he's not actually bi (when Bradley immediately flirts with him), and tells him that "the only gay kids in south park are Tweek and Craig!"

- Bradley then takes a liking to Craig, and starts to hit on him, not knowing that Craig is taken, saying stuff about how "Mysterious" Craig is, and how that's attractive

- before Craig has the chance to tell him to fuck off, Tweek is already behind him, going off on Bradley telling him to "stay away from my Craig"

- Craig likes Tweek standing up for him, so he doesn't actually do anything to stop Tweek and may even sneakily instigate some of his anger just so he can watch his boyfriend fight for him

- subplot, Bradley actually moved into Stan's old house. This freaks Stan out because, as we all know, Stan hates living at Tegrity Farms, and now that his old house has sold, he feels there's no hope of him ever moving back in next to his best friends anymore.

- He turns to the only friend he knows who is crazy enough to drive someone out of town: Cartman.

- Stan and Cartman attempt to gather up more people who are interested in Getting rid of Bradley, but the only other person willing to help is Clyde. ("That Bradley kid said that Craig is the cutest boy in the school. That's not true because everyone knows that I'm the cutest! The girls said so!")

-Tweek is busy working on his own plans, and doesn't know that Stan and Cartman are planning anything

- Cut to a sleepover at Bebe's house, all the main girls are there talking about their crushes and boyfriends, and Wendy brings up how Stan is really concerned about "that Bradley kid" moving into his old house.

- pivot to Tweek, also at the girls' slumber party, hair pulled back with a headband with bunny ears and a mint colored face mask on. This man is fuming, twitching like he does and going off about how "i'm gonna fucking kill him"

- eventually there's a scene outside of Bradley's house, where Stan, Cartman and Clyde were all about to execute whatever plan they came up with to get rid of Bradley, but before they can start, an extremely violent Tweek is speed walking down the street clenching his jaw, with his trusty boxing gloves over his hands.

- Tweek beats the crap out of Bradley and Craig ends up having to break it up, deciding that he's let it go on long enough. Bradley's family does, in fact, move out of Stan's old house

Alright y’all, with the release of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, it’s time for me to share my playlist for the entire trilogy.

I’ve refined this over like six years so scientifically speaking it’s probably good right. oh also it’s four hours long. so if you have a road trip or a boring job, this one’s for you. disclaimer, it’s entirely possible I have garbage taste in music. I also missed some characters and moments because there’s 65 songs here and I am merely human.

If you don’t have the patience for four hours, I recommend starting at track 45 and listening to the end, as the Mass Effect 3 portion is the strongest in my opinion.

UNDER THE CUT FOR DESCRIPTIONS WE GO!

FIRST MOVEMENT - MASS EFFECT 1

1. Atlas - Coldplay Eden Prime

“Sometimes the wire Must tense for the note Caught in the fire, say oh We're about to explode“

I really like the atmosphere of this song. It’s ominous, but also somehow hopeful, and makes me feel like Something Huge Is Coming.

2. I Will Not Sing A Hateful Song - Constantines Paragon Shepard

“But I was also born and raised To always speak and listen clear To know the last sound that I make Could be the last sound that I hear“

OK, listen, I think this song is about vampires, and I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a metaphor or not. But I think this is a great song about controlling one’s temper, about knowing that you have to Rise Above the parts of you that want to lash out sometimes to get things done and have peace. Seeing as how paragon Shepard, to me, always seems like they’re three deep breaths away from snapping, but manage to keep it in check, it fits them to a T.

And also maybe they’re a vampire.

3. Hard to Kill - Beth Crowley Renegade Shepard

“So I let the rumors Turn me into a legend 'Cause I'm only human But a good myth is hard to kill”

This one’s a recent addition, but holy cow, I love it for Renegade Shep, particularly an Earthborn or Ruthless, but it works for any of them.

4. We Own the Skies - Five Iron Frenzy Joker

“My hands are bleeding where they often crack The stars will sometimes burn with longing Through the choking black Of night shifts piling each against the next”

This really vibes with Joker’s backstory for me, his super driven serious self in flight school, contrasted with who he is when he can fly a ship. He’s the best pilot in the goddamn fleet and I love him.

5. I Just Wanna See - Smash Mouth Kaidan Alenko

“Mister moon checkin' on how y'all livin' The stars all winkin' at the day that's dimmin' I just wanna see”

This song fits into his reactions to first showing up at the Citadel and his former romanticism about living in space. Ironically, it’s a song about Earth, but I feel like it works well for him. Also, Smash Mouth absolutely sounds like the kind of music Kaidan would listen to, no I will not be taking questions or constructive criticism.

6. Don’t Give Up - Noisettes Ashley Williams

“She's got a talented face and a suitcase Ain't got no desire to go no place In her case she's got no desire with her hand in the flame say's she don't feel the fire “

The energy of this song is just perfect for Ashley’s no-nonsense chip on her shoulder attitude.

7. About As Helpful As You Can Be Without Being Any Help At All - Dan Mangan The Council

“I was thrown in the boat/Cast out to sea Friendly with waves/There were sharks below Hungry for me/So I dangled my leg”

I mean, the title says it all.

8. The Captain - Guster Anderson

“Courageous, just like the captain Marching forward with no doubt in his head”

I have adored this song ever since my friend played it for me, and it’s the ultimate mentor-protégé jam for me.

9. Secret Agent Man - Johnny Rivers Garrus Vakarian

“Here's a man who leads a life of danger To everyone he meets he stays a stranger Oh, with every move he makes another chance he takes The odds are he won't live to see tomorrow”

I have to poke a little fun at Garrus and how seriously he takes himself in Mass Effect 1. I romanced him across four playthrus, I’m allowed!

10. I’m Getting Too Old For This Shit - Kill Lincoln Urdnot Wrex

“This random apathy/I swear it's killing me But I guess it's all the same, till the devil knows my name”

I don’t know ANYTHING about this band, but this song fits Wrex’s disillusionment with the Krogan well, plus, like. The title. (And also, that he secretly DOES care what happens to the Krogan.)

11. Bird Song - Juniper Vale Tali’zorah nar Rayya

“I want to dance on the horizon line But there is something I am caged behind I have a heart made for take flight But I'm low, so low”

I adore this song and the sound of Juniper Vale in general. The etherealness of this one, combined with the youthful optimism, feels very Tali. The line about ‘something I am caged behind’ works well for the suits, too. This one’s especially good if you’re a Talimancer!

12. 11. Green Garden - Laura Mvula Liara T’Soni

“And I’ll fly on the wings of a butterfly High as a tree top and down again Putting my bag down, taking my shoes off Walk on the carpet of green velvet”

I really like this song’s vibes and I feel like Liara fits it well, particularly in ME1, before all her youthful optimism is stripped from her. The scenery descriptions feel very Thessia, too.

13. Feed Me (Git It) - Little Shop of Horrors The Thorian 

“The guy sure looks like plant food to me!”

Do you get it. Do you get my joke. It’s because the Thorian is a plant that eats people. (I’m not funny)

14. Blindness - Metric Matriarch Benezia

“I was a blind fool, never complained All the survivors singing in the rain “

I don’t love the use of blind here as a negative, albeit metaphorical, descriptor, but I think this song fits Benezia’s indoctrination and death well. If you have suggestions for another, though, let me know!

15. Technologic - Daft Punk Saren

“Buy it, use it, break it, fix it, trash it, change it, mail, upgrade it”

I just think it’s Neat

16. Watershed - Vienna Teng The Reapers

“ While you were building your empires I was still sleeping”

I think this is the song that inspired the entire playlist. Vienna Teng sat down and decided to write a song from the perspective of a natural disaster, and it’s so ominous and gut-wrenching.

17. Hourglass - The Hush Sound Virmire

“This is how it ends We believe every lie and say we'll be friends How long will it last? Before we scratch all the scripts and we rework the cast “

hahahahah rework the cast get it because you have to pick who DIES

Seriously tho I really like this song for Virmire and that moment of choice that feels like it lasts 100 years on some playthroughts.

18. Pompeii - Bastille The Siege of the Citadel

“ And the walls kept tumbling down In the city that we love”

Throwback to when this song was on the radio like three times an hour. Which is around the time I made the first draft of this playlist, incidentally! It’s such a good Final Battle Jam for the Citadel, and the part about “if you close your eyes/does it almost feel like nothing’s changed at all” I think work really well for Shepard in this sequence. Shepard knew the Reapers were coming, had been fighting them all along; this attack on the Citadel is just retreading familiar territory for them, as horrifying as the war being brought to their doorstep is for the Citadel’s citizens and the council. James Vega has some good dialogue about that kind of thing in ME3.

Welcome to mood whiplash, it’s my specialty! This is the part where you die. I think it also works for her coma very well, when she’s just drifting between life and death, not sure what’s going on, but something keeps trying to pull her back to the world.

21. The Phoenix - Fall Out Boy The Lazarus Project

“Hey young blood, doesn't it feel like our time is running out? I'm gonna change you like a remix Then I'll raise you like a phoenix “

this song has no right to go as hard as it does and if  you think it’s melodramatic shut up

22. My Body Is A Cage - Peter Gabriel Commander Shepard

This works particularly well if you romanced The Virmire Survivor, but this song captures the energy of Shepard freaking out bc they are trapped with Cerberus, because Cerberus rebuilt their body from the ground up. That jarring, caged feeling is so palpable in ME2 that when they gave me back Joker the first time I played, I BURST INTO SOBS from relief.

23. The Lady is a Vamp - The Spice Girls Miranda Lawson

“That's all in the past, legends built to last But she's got something new”

Listen. She’s a bond babe. Handbags, heels and pistols rock. She’s got class. This is a song about Miranda. That is all.

24. Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down Jacob Taylor

“ I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon After all I knew, it had to be something to do with you “

This one’s about the Vibes for me. Also can apply to his past relationship with Miranda. I’m also super showing my age on this song, oof haha.

25. Stable Song - Death Cab For Cutie Colony Abduction

I really like the mood of this one for showing up on the very first abducted colony, the eerieness and sadness of it all and Shepard’s resolve to do something about it.

THAT COUPLET ALONE MAKES THE ENTIRE SONG. I love how playful and cheeky it is.

Pretty sure we all had this on some playlist or another when it came out, and it’s the perfect Badass With A Grudge song.

This one actually got added by my wife to replace a song that wasn’t on Spotify, but that has the same energy; Hank Green’s “I Fucking Love Science”. I get more into the emotional side of Mordin in the ME3 section, but I also really just love his Hamster On Coffee energy and this song captures it really well.

The absolute rock bottom mental state Garrus is in when you get back to him in ME2 is so heartwrenching. Might not always agree with my boy’s methods, but he’s one of my favorite fictional characters of all time.

It helps that Courtney Love sounds exactly like Jack to me, NGL.

This song works both on a Literal level with his Kepral’s syndrome struggles, but also Metaphorical re: his Battle Sleep. Plus, Thane is a dad, so he gets Dad Rock.

“Be still / someday you’ll leave fearlessness on your sleeve”

This song works so well for the night before Omega-4. If you had an ME2 love interest, anyway. Also “fearlessness on your sleeve” is one of my favorite set of words ever written.

40. No Cars Go - Arcade Fire The Omega-4 Relay

This one’s pretty literal.

41. Rocketman - Elton John Suicide Mission

“ And I think it's gonna be a long, long time 'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home “

I like sneaking some Classics onto my playlists, and I think this is how I generally approach Shepard’s mindset during the Suicide Mission, mostly the chorus. I’m also a sucker for ballads during action sequences. This one isn’t a perfect 1:1 but the Vibes check out.

42. Blast Off - David Guetta feat. Kaz James The Normandy Crew

“Got all my people with me And none of us give a fuck So put dem hands up higher Let's smash this party up”

You have to imagine they partied HARD after recovering from Suicide Mission, but before Shep got arrested, right??? This is the Starships for ME2.

This feels like a good coming of age moment for Liara, as she copes with the choices she made in the 2 years of Shepard’s death (giving them to Cerberus), losing Feron, etc. This is her coming into her own as the Shadow Broker. She’s not meant to be an uncomplicated Big Damn Hero, but she can do good from this position.

44. The Well and the Lighthouse - Arcade Fire The Alpha Relay Incident

“I'm serving time All for a crime I did commit You want the truth? You know I'd do it all again“

These opening lines I feel capture the Alpha Relay Incident really well, and how Shepard did what they HAD to do there, and would do it again, but it still feels like shit. I always wished there was more choice on that mission, but also, having something like that happen without player agency is interesting. Shepard is at their most interesting, I think, in times where we DON’T have a say in what happens to them.

45. Reignite - Malukah Commander Shepard

“Crush my heart into embers, and I will reignite”

Is it cheating to use a Mass Effect fan song on my playlist? I certainly don’t think so, and this is the best Mass Effect fan song ever written.

James Vega is massively underrated and I will love him til I’m cold in the ground. Aro icon.

I like this song for how the Virmire Survivor feels about their survivor’s guilt and also about Shepard. I honestly wish they were both more heavily utilized in ME2 and 3, but I realize it’s hard to write a ton of content for characters who just aren’t in half of all peoples’ playthrus.

Honestly I didn’t “get” the Refusal ending until I heard this song, then I was like, OH, I SEE IT ALL SO CLEARLY NOW. This is my favorite in-universe Shepard take on the Refusal ending. I always got it from the player’s perspective of being dissatisfied with the options, but this one puts it into the world for me. This is a Shepard who does not trust the Starchild. This is a Shepard that chooses to end things on their own terms rather than submit to their designs.

I used to have Adieu here, actually, because like Refusal, I didn’t used to GET the Control ending. Now, I do, in part thanks to hearing this song. I mean, just go look at the full lyrics. If this song hadn’t been written years before the end of Mass Effect 3, I’d swear it was a fan song for it.

I’m a Destroy Ending person, I won’t lie. Full on “the starchild is a liar and my synthetic friends are FINE” indoctrination theory level destroy ending. But this song is not about that. It’s about the canonical destroy ending, and if you prefer a Shep that survives it, this song’s for you.

This song captures the exhaustion and melancholy of the end of a long journey so well. Shepard is afraid of what comes next, the collateral damage resulting from their actions. But they know that, at least, it’s over now. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. The hardest part of ending is starting again. Oof. Gets me every single time. Shepard finding the resolve to sacrifice themself for the hope of something better, of things not going how they planned, ever, of learning to make peace with that and the people who loved them learning to carry on without them? OOF.

Writing, Goalposts, and my Naegiri Week 2021 Participation

I’ve been reflecting on what to do about my writing speed lately.

Seems like I do that a lot, huh? Like once every few months I come up with an idea, and I tell myself maybe this will help me write quicker, but then it doesn’t. I know that I worry too much about it, especially for someone who has probably one of the best and most patient audiences that a writer could ask for. You all know me though, I can’t help worrying even if I wanted to. So in my worrying recently, I’ve started thinking about what might actually need to be done when it comes to my work. 

The conclusion I’ve come to, ultimately, is that I need to take some time to get ahold of myself and my work.

Part of the problem that exists with my work is that I’m buried within layers and layers of just... stuff. I participate in Naegiri Week every year for all 7 days and insist on finishing, when asked questions about Danganronpa 21 stuff I say I’ll write them but then I never get around to it, I ask for requests and then I only manage to finish three of them before I grow exhausted, and I write a long fic which really is its own literary headache. It seems like I’m constantly biting off more than I can chew, and I knowingly do it because I want to show appreciation to my audience and I want to write things that they enjoy. 

The thing is, though, I don’t actually think I’m able to do that because I’m not actually finishing anything on time. Danganronpa 21 will be two years out without an update in December which just feels plain embarrassing, I’m constantly playing catch-up with Naegiri Week, I still have those follower prompts to work on, and it’s just a lot of stuff, stuff, stuff. When put together, I have about 15 different things I need to write: 3 remaining Naegiri Week prompts from 2020 and 2018, 10 prompts from my follower prompt requests, 1 chapter of Danganronpa 21 just so it will have a freaking update, and 1 headcanon-based one-shot. Like that’s a lot, and it’s for Danganronpa works alone. Factor in other stuff I do, and it gets worse. I can barely believe that I’ve been sitting here for years kicking myself about this, but actively scooping more onto my plate. I guess I thought it was better to promise you good stuff every time I felt like I’d let you down, but I wasn’t really making it better for either of us.

My writing speed is never going to be great. I always try my best to work on it, but my anxiety disorder is a big part of it, and mental illness is not easily defeated so much as it is coped with. So I’m trying, but... I stress too much and I edit too hard and some days I burn myself out studying Shakespeare and can’t motivate myself to write with a fried brain. Moving the goal posts is only exacerbating the problem. It’s not doing either of us any favours. I’m not even really giving you more content. With how slowly I’m going, you’re missing out on stuff. I don’t like that, you don’t like that, why are we doing that? 

So that brings me to my current thoughts: 

I think I will only participate in three out of seven prompts for Naegiri Week 2021.

That way, you don’t miss out on Naegiri Week works entirely (I know they’re a reader favourite), but it’s more reasonable to assume that I can knock them out in November and go back to work on other projects. And really, with the leftover Naegiri Week prompts from 2020 and 2018 being 3 total, you’ll still eventually end up with 6 Naegiri Week prompts, which is still almost a full week’s worth. It was a tough choice to make given that I love participating and I know everyone looks forward to it, but in the end it feels like the right idea.

If the prompts happen to be super stellar and I come up with some ideas, I’ll put them in my back pocket for when I have the time. I won’t go out of my way to tell you what they are, when they’ll be coming, or anything. I’ll just write them down for me, and have them as a neat little surprise for when we can get there. Right now it just doesn’t make sense to keep adding new things to my workload when I’m already behind. I’d just be moving the goal posts for myself again, and then getting upset with myself when I’m not some kind of writing whiz. As I said at the beginning, I kind of just need to stop and catch up. Nothing shiny and new for me for awhile, just stuff you’ve all been waiting to see.

TLDR; I’m only doing three Naegiri Week prompts this year because I’m behind on everything and want to focus my energy on catching up with other writing you all have asked for. Any ideas I have from this year’s prompts that I do not pursue as my three will be put aside for after catch-up.

You were no stranger to the wealthy lifestyle. But, your parents made it a point to not let you become vain, lazy, or unsympathetic to the human condition

I’m not too sure if there’s an actual term for this, but a thing I like to call “right-brained intellectualism" was emphasized in your household. Basically, the ability to classify complex human emotions and not only understand them. But, view them through the lenses of objectivity and abstract concepts (Hence, the “right-brained” part)

The goal was to instill curiosity in you to explore how different personalities act in different situations and why. This could ultimately help you guide your social interactions in the future

But, here's where it comes in handy:

Due to your reserved tendencies, you weren't that high on Ouran's social ladder. Especially in middle school. You tried your best not to pay that fact any mind, reminding yourself to always pack an extra novel in case you finished your current one during the day

But, the (sort of) benefit to having so much time on your own, was that you had plenty of time to observe the students around you. Their actions, quirks, and relationships

Rather, they were the asocial types. And you saw secondhand that they went out of their way to keep their little world for only them

But...still.

There weren't any surface level answers to reach for that could calm your curiosities (Other than just passing the Hitachiins off as jerks and moving on). You could tell their reasoning was much more complex

And that. Frustrated you

To ease your mind, you wanted to start off small: Learn which is Hikaru, and which is Kaoru

One day, just before the lunch period started, you had finished your current novel. But, when you reached for the extra book in your bag, it had ✨vanished✨

You panicked a bit. You knew you packed the book. You re-checked earlier in the day!

The teacher unfortunately noticed you looking around like a lost puppy, asking what was wrong

"Mm?? Oh- uh...I just lost my book. It's, y'know, it's fine! I'll just...look for it later..."

The teacher didn't pick up on how embarrassed you were, asking the class if someone wanted to help you look

You were surprised when someone actually raised their hand

And just your luck, it was one of the twins, who turned to his brother and reassured him that they'd see each other at lunch

You (lowkey paralyzed by fear) followed the Hitachiin's lead, waiting until the rest of the class had left the room to begin your search

But, as you started to sift through the shelves in the back, you felt the boy tap your shoulder

And there it was in his hand, the first edition book on botany you had gotten for your birthday not too long ago

"You...you found it already??"

He rubbed the back of his neck, more bashful than you would've pegged him for

"Kind of…? I took it during class. I thought your reaction would be funny, but it was sort of just hard to look at. It would've just been cruel to embarrass you more in front of everyone."

"Oh...well, thanks for telling me at least."

The boy raised an eyebrow, your reactions catching him off guard once more

"You're not mad?"

"Not really. You realized your mistake and that's more than some can say. So, I can forgive that."

"Hm...well, I should get going. I can't keep him waiting!"

Before he left, you called out to him, asking for his name

"Hm? Kaoru."

🌳Flourishing Love🌳

The start of you and Kaoru's romantic relationship actually began in high school

The (in)famously idealistic Tamaki Suoh had approached you, Hikaru, and Kaoru to be a part of his new "host club". The twins as a part of the service, you as the manager (To garner male financial support, of course :D)

Since you weren't involved in a club anyway, you agreed to join next semester for your first year of high school

Once Haruhi came into the picture, you became fast friends. Seeing as you were both practical souls, if not intellectual

Through your friendship with Haruhi, you got closer to the twins you were so afraid of all that time ago

Especially Kaoru, the twin you had spoken to first

Both of your crushes formed rather fast as you got to know each other personally (And since Hikaru was already starting to take interest in Haruhi)

Kaoru had fallen for the way you never made face-value judgements of people. Like how you were so understanding about his dumb prank on you just last year

He learned to love the bright rays of passion that shone through your timid exterior. The way you talked about the things you loved like they were the greatest things in the world. You always made your case with such conviction, and Kaoru couldn't help but believe you all the way

You, Haruhi, Hikaru, and Kaoru were hanging out in the courtyard one day, and Kaoru had managed to get you to talk about the flora and fauna in the area (Which quickly segwayed into how you loved gardening and caring for animals)

All the while, Kaoru intently listened, staring at you like you were the only person in the world

During a pause in your avid canine classification spree, Kaoru picked up a few cornflowers that had fallen from a bush, putting them in your hair and behind your ear

While you were blushing up a storm, Kaoru bluntly, but sweetly, confessed

Hikaru and Haruhi looked on, endeared that the two sweetest souls in their little group had finally gotten together

In your relationship, you manage to draw out the more relaxed and mature side of Kaoru's personality

(Though, you always get a good laugh out of his more cunning and mischievous side)

You always affirm to him that he can enjoy both sides of being a twin, and being his own unique person. He doesn't necessarily have to choose

Kaoru definitely takes advantage of your height difference, using you as an armrest at the most inopportune times

He loves to kiss each and every one of your freckles (At least, on your face and neck). No matter what you think of them, he sees them as little targets to go for when he wants to shower you with love

But, like a respectful boy, he always lets you take off your glasses first if you need to

You guys went ice skating for your first date! Since it was your hobby, you paid for skating, and Kaoru paid for food afterwards. Kaoru knew how to skate, but pretended not to so he could have an excuse to hold your hands

Kaoru found out about your violin training later in the relationship, immediately teasing you about playing for one of the host club's sessions at some point

He has undoubtedly picked up a disturbing amount of animal facts from you and the documentaries you watch. He shares them with the host club to get disgusted reactions from them, and flattered smiles from you 😊

Y'all are just so freaking cute together, I need to chug salt to get the sweetness out of my mouth ❤️
