Betrayal and Tragedy: The Nyköping Banquet and Sweden's Dark Royal Past"
In the annals of Swedish history, Dec 10, 1317 is etched with the dark ink of betrayal and tragedy. The Nyköping Banquet, a seemingly festive affair held at Nyköping Castle, would become the stage for one of the most treacherous acts within the Swedish royal family. This harrowing event involved King Birger’s ruthless betrayal of his own brothers, Valdemar, Duke of Finland, and Eric, Duke of…

Carl XVI Gustaf is celebrating today 50 years in the throne as king of #Sweden.
In this photo we see him hanging out with LITERAL NZIS in the 90s. This was in the middle of the nzi wave in the 90s in Sweden, were NZIS were beating, and killing refugees, Black, and POC in Sweden. Nzis were also burning their homes and houses. Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CxQDtFMsBYG/

This is letter number 27, and the last letter in the first envelope of letters I have. 🌸 The first envelope contains the letters that Elfriede and Johan sent to each other during their first three months of acquaintance, april - juni 1920. In total I have 20 envelopes with around 3 - 30 letters in each that were sent between 1920 - 1941. 🍃 To maybe clarify some confusion. Johan goes by several names in the letters. Johan, Olle and Hanni. Olle being a nickname derived from his last name, but also a very common Swedish name. 📝 Ängelholm 29/6 - 1920 - From Johan. "Dear Elfriede! Your letter makes me happy. Many thanks. I could eat pancakes with lingonberries for every meal. I have only a few minutes at my disposal and that's why I have to keep it short. Next Sunday at 10:27 I will arrive at Ovesholm. You meet me, and and we'll walk to Lille Paris, right? As you want! Greetings and goodbye! Hanni" 🌸 #truelove #oldletters #geneology #lettersfromourpast #1900s #1900 #1920s #1920 #history #lovestyory #ancestors #ancestry #heritagte #swedishhistory #sweden #familyarchives #letters #historicallove #ängelholm #elfriedeandjohan #lovestory https://www.instagram.com/p/CV7iWstM9jm/?utm_medium=tumblr

🇸🇪 Aph Sweden ➡️Swipe for some history facts about the Swedish army at that time😉 I took it directly from Wikipedia because it was already written nicely and I didn't want to rewrite it again. ➡️Fun fact: At first I forgot to draw his glasses and I was wondering why the drawing looked kind of strange😄 Though technically at that time I think glasses did not yet exist so it would've been alright. My next video explain the sacred landscape of the Norse and the various funerary monuments they left for us to see today in Sweden. This artwork by @artofryanmurray depicts a treudd which are found in numerous iron age grave fields in central Sweden. They often have remains of a post or even a tree stump at their centre so there is a theory that they were ritual enclosures symbolising the roots of the world tree and a place where sacrifices could be offered in the presence of ancient barrows which were viewed as portals to the other world. Would you know yet more? #swedishhistory #Vikings #vikingclothing #vikinggods #asatru #fornsiðr #theodism #Paganism #sacrifice #yggdrasil #treudd https://www.instagram.com/p/CE3lNfHgUMt/?igshid=tydibqwbo4v

FOX5 Las Vegas: Las Vegas police: Home video showed babysitter beating 5-year-old child before his death
Tertullian cites 3 secret crimes alleged against the Christians, as apart from the public and indisputably actual crimes of refusing adoration to the pagan gods and lese-majeste against the emperor: ritual infanticide, incest, and a variety of cannibalism in which the host was dipped in children’s blood before being consumed. In the 3rd century, Christian writers were more aggressive in carrying…

15th October 1674, beginning of the Torsåker witch trials, The Swedish witch hysteria known as ‘stora oväsendet’ or the ‘great noise’ began in 1668, with the interrogation of children, who claimed that they had been abducted to Witches’ Sabbath’s in which the Devil would appear. This first trial held in Mora in Dalarna saw the execution of 17 people, including the whipping, and the gauntlet for the children who claimed they were abducted, for the crime of participation in the Sabbath. The trial sparked an hysteria across the country, with accusations and trials spreading from parish to parish, with the formation of a national Witchcraft Commission in 1673; who stated that all execution would take the form of decapitation and then burning, to all those who had confessed. This ruling was changed the following year however to all those who were accused, even if they had not confessed through the use of torture. The worst accounts of the trials took place in 1675 in Ångermanland and Gästrikland where 110 people were executed, and the Torsåker witch trials which began this day, and ended with 71 people (65 women and 6 men), beheaded and burned on the 1st June 1675. As in the first trial, the majority of witnesses were all children, including testimonies against their own mothers, some extracted through whippings, submerging children into holes in the ice in frozen lakes, and putting children into ovens, with the threat that they would be cooked while alive. Two years later, with the executions of over three hundred people, the trails ended with the children accused of lying. Further all priests were ordered to preach that all witches were now expelled from the country, (Continued in the comments). #darkhistory #macabre #folklore #witchtrials #17thcentury #witchcraft #witchbottle #witchbottles #witchcrafthistory #witchhistory #superstitions #strangehistory #witchfindergeneral #witchartist #historyofwitchcraft #witchpersecution #witchcraft #witchcrafttrials #historyofwitches #witchcraftaesthetic #swedishhistory #swedishwitch #sweden🇸🇪 #torsåker #witchessabbath #witchhysteria #storaoväsendet #witchtrialsmemorial #witchpersecution #execution https://www.instagram.com/p/CVDjgA1l3HH/?utm_medium=tumblr

Brahehus Castle. A drive from Stockholm to Copenhagen takes anywhere between seven to eight hours, depending on traffic and how quickly you want to get from point A to point B. Me? Quick? No chance. I am okay about taking pit stops. The more, the better. Once you are outside Stockholm city limits, find and get onto the E4 highway. This is an excellent motorway (though it can get monotonous) and stretches all the way to Helsingborg. From there, it’s not too far to the Öresund Bridge that connects Sweden with Denmark. Keep an eye on the road signs as you wouldn’t want to miss out on Gränna  In about four hours (I know it was more as I was driving, and I like my pit stops), you should pass by what looks like the ruins of a castle. I suggest you consider another pit stop. The Brahehus Castle offers spectacular views of the second largest lake in Sweden – Vättern. Right below is the well laid out town itself. Look far enough and you’ll also see Visingsö island. I didn’t know anything about the castle at that time. However, with a bit of research I was able to discover that it was built by Count Per Brahe the Younger, somewhere in the middle of the 17th century. Unfortunately, it was abandoned a few decades later, and was partly destroyed by a fire many years later. Have you been here? What are your impressions? _________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs _________________________________________ Visit Sweden 🇸🇪 #visitsweden _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #gränna #grännaberget #sverige #sweden #brahehus #brahehusruin #brahehuscastle #brahehusslottsruin #ruins #oldcastleruins #vättern#visitsmåland #swedishhistory #gränna #castleruins #castleview #svstills #swedish #castle #ig_week_sweden #swedenimages #swedenshots #exploresweden #total_sweden #swedenimages #ig_svenskabilder #ig_sverigebilder #igsweden (at Brahehus) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL01GowMQde/?igshid=xni3on9c11bb

My great-grandmother Elfriede moved to Sweden in April 1920. 🚂 She arrived in Sweden on this day, the 14th of April, a 101 years ago, to work for a German family who lived in Sweden. Her sister had moved to Sweden before her and had written to ask her if she wanted to come and work here too. ✉️ When she got off the train no one came to meet her. She was instead approached by a man who worked at the train station. She told him ”Ich kan nicht schwedisch sprechen”. 💬 To her great surprise he spoke German and he ended up helping her get to the family she was going to work for. 🏠 The day after, on the 15th of April 1920, the man, who was my great-grandfather Johan wrote to Elfriede and asked if she would want to practice German with him. Maybe she wanted to practice her Swedish too? 📖 He was very cordial and asked her not to be angry with him for writing her, that he was not some "girl-chaser" but simply someone who enjoyed going for walks in nature who thought they could have a wonderful time together. 📝 Over the years they wrote hundreds of letters to each other, but this is the very first one. 💌 #truelove #oldletters #geneology #lettersfromourpast #1900s #1900 1920s #1920 #history #lovestory #ancestors #ancestry #heritage #swedishhistory #sweden #familyarchives #letters #historicallove #soulmates #ängelholm #elfriedeandjohan https://www.instagram.com/p/CNpE4zYpjaz/?utm_medium=tumblr
