Well since you mention valentine's professions of love, I think it wouldn't be right if I didn't take this chance to extoll the virtues of moths. Firstly, they're adorable. Some of them are really fuzzy and have cute antennae. The rosy maple moth and the common silk moth are both very very cute. Secondly, (as this blog proves again and again) there are SO MANY of them in such a huge variety that you're bound to come across one that tickles your fancy! Take the Atlas Moth for example! It's got a wing span of nearly 25cm! That's like the size of a small bird! (You have no idea how much I want to pet a large moth species. Not the caterpillars though. Never touch random caterpillars. In fact, some moth caterpillars have hairs and stuff that you definitely do not want to touch due to them being poisonous.) Thirdly, moths are culturally and historically important! Silk has been a major industry for centuries upon centuries. The techniques of silk production and the actual moths themselves are the subject of myths in various cultures. They were once so jealously and secretively guarded that there are legends of how they came to be spread to different parts of Asia. I cannot stress how big of a deal silk was throughout the history of the world and how the trade of silk influenced international relations for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Oh and the thing is, common silk moths aren't the only silk-producing moth! There are several moths in the Saturniidae family that make cocoons of silk which are also used in modern, commercial silk production -- some of which don't result in the death of the chrysalid.
Look, I know whatever string of nucleotides this ramble produces will not end up matching the genetic sequence of a moth, because that's just how these things work but... I hope that people will look upon all the moths that do show up going forth with a fond and grateful eye because moths are truly magnificent creatures. Happy Valentine's Day!

Timeless
...
You were walking down the street looking at all the stores, enjoying the crisp autumn air when something caught your eye across the street. An antique shop! You've always loved antiques, looking at precious things that time left behind. Quickly, you hurried across the street and stopped at the door.
Open.
You creaked open the door and got hit with the smell of dust, stepping in the floor squeaked a bit. You couldn't see anyone around but you assumed they were in the back. Slowly you started to inspect little trinkets around you, all the old books and teddy bears and photos. When a box caught your eye on the counter. photos, 25c each.
You treaded over to the box and looked the through the photos, the first one you saw was very old, black and white of a bride and groom smiling wide. It made you think of you and your husband, Severus. Turning it over the year said 1935. Smiling, picking up next one you saw it was two lovers sitting on the porch of their first house, laughing with a small child. Flipping it over you read the year, 1957.
"Oh hello miss!" You were startled at a voice who called from a door behind the counter, you looked up and saw and older man standing there looking at your hands. "No one has looked at those in ages, I don't remember taking them out." He said surprised. "Oh hello! Yes, I saw this store from across the street and couldn't resist coming in. And these photos are just beautiful!" He walked around a couple of boxes to the front of the counter to see which ones you were looking at.
"Oh yes! The one of the bride and groom is my favorite one in there." You smiled and look down at it again. "I would love to buy them from you if that's alright, they remind me of my husband and I, I would love to show them to him."
"Of course, I think these photos would be honored to be taken home, they've been sitting here for decades." Looking in your bag for some change you pulled out 50 cents and passed them to him, "Thank you so much! I'm going to have to come back here with my husband he likes these sorts of things as well."
Taking your change from you and passing you the photos, he grinned and said, "You and your husband are welcome here anytime, I hope to see you sometime soon." You bid him farewell and stepped outside the door hearing the bell ring you begun your walk home, excited to show Severus these photos.
                                       ...
You rushed down the street and to your shared home. As soon as you left it started raining, which couldn't have been more unfortunate due to the fact you had just bought photos. Dusting your feet off on the doormat, you quickly opened the door and dashed inside, eager to get away from the rain.
"Severus! I'm home!" You heard some banging around in the kitchen along with a few grunts frustration. You headed over to the kitchen door where you saw your husband preparing dinner, or trying to. He heard your footsteps and turned around to greet you, but frowned when he saw you. "Your dripping." He said in his normal baritone voice. You looked down at yourself and saw your coat and t-shirt had been completely drenched by the rain. "It's raining cats and dogs out there! Haven't you seen?" He looked outside at the garden and saw how heavy the rain was. " I guess I did not" You smiled and took off your coat and put it on the one of the dining chairs.
"Well, I went to town today and got some things I wanted to show you." He turned down the heat on the stove and walked over to where you sat at the dining table, Standing just behind you. You reached over to the chair to pull out the two photos from your coat pocket.
"I went to an antique shop today, and look at these!" He furrowed his brows on why you bought pictures of strangers. "What are these pictures, love?" He lightly put his hand on your shoulder." You looked up at him and beamed, "They had these at the counter in a old box, 25 cents each. I picked out these ones because they reminded me of us. You passed him the photos.
Severus looked at them curiously, "And why do these remind you of us, dear?" He looked at you. "Those pictures look like the kind of love you only find once in a lifetime, and that definitely describes us, don't you think?" He looked from you to the pictures and smirked a little. "Yes, I suppose it does." He set the photos down and kissed you on the head. You spoke again, "Y'know, I think in another life you still would've turned my head." You glanced up at him again. He had an amused expression on his face, "And what would that life be?" You looked back down at the table with rosy cheeks and said "I don't know, maybe we met on a crowded street in 1944, or maybe I met you at a park in 1835, who knows. All I know is we would've been timeless in every single one."
"Yes, love I think we would've."

It seems more and more lately, me and my beloved's AR15's are balancing modern and retro design assets, and @bureau-of-mines's "National Match"-Style AR is no exception -
Unbranded PSA Flat Top Upper/BCG/Charging Handle
Intlmilco "Commercial"/BHD M16A2 Lower
Brownell's 20" A2 Barrel with XM177-Style Faux Moderator and Grenade Ring
APF Armory Low-Profile Gas Block
Harris S-25C Bipod with No.4 Barrel Mount Adapter & KMW Pod-Loc
Doublestar Aluminum Free-Float Tube Handguard
Choate E-2 Stock with M16A2 Trapdoor Buttplate
Magpul MOE-K Grip
Colt 20rnd Magazine
A.R.M.S. #5 Multibase Mount (Riser)
Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm LR/T with Nightforce A107 30mm Scope Rings
This was another tricky one to work on, as the lower was part of a blemished batch and it was very difficult getting a grip and spring detent combination that worked with it. The Magpul MOE-K that I recently picked up ended resolving this problem - the safety selector is now nice and snappy and the angles go aesthetically well with the Choate E-2 Stock.
The Leupold 3.5-10x40mm LR/T was donated off of my Mod H that I've been increasingly bored with (such is the case for SPR builds), and it will likely remain on this rifle at least until we get an AR-10.
I can't reasonably think of much more that either of us want to add to this build, short of perhaps a sling or a shorter bipod. The touch of bronze against the matte blacks, greys, and subtle purples really sells this build for me.

snow's like the only thing making it worth it, because it's prettier when it's cold. Also yeah, being sensitive to temperature is totally a thing, why wouldn't it be? personally struggle more with high temperatures, above 20-25C and i melt. cold is like. its fine. im used to it
for me its. a thing. i dont like being hot because i cant do nothing about it, all i can do is just have a fan in my room and wear t shirts and short pants and stuff. but if its cold then i can just wear as many clothes as i need thumbsup . but yeah my body does not like being cold or very hot at all. i will Die at +25°C

i saw your recent post and i haven't read the snippet yet bc i got distracted by you saying it was hot and i think you're european right? so no AC? as someone who lives in the southeastern US, allow me to bestow some comfort tips for unreasonable summer temperatures without air conditioning. apologies if you know all this already or anything, but i'm currently surviving one of the worst heat waves i can recall in my 40+ yrs of living in the ass end of the devil's swamp so i'm a little zealous about making sure nobody is dying of heat
(my credentials are that the heat index was over 110F - 43C - every damn day for over a *month* even central air can't keep up my house hasn't been below 80 since early june)
at night, open at least two windows. put the fan in front of one of the windows, with the back facing the window, so it'll suck in cooler air. warmer air will get pushed out the other window. even better if you have two fans, have one sucking in from one window and one pushing air out the other window
during the day, keep the windows covered as much as possible and overhead lights off. i have blackout curtains for this. i have also put aluminum foil (shiny side out) on the windows like those windshield covers before. it worked but was a pain in the ass to put up and take down
wet several t-shirts and stick them in the freezer. rotate accordingly while lazing about indolently like a freeloading lion (seriously those mfers are thee worst)
ice packs on pulsepoints. wrist, groin, neck, wherever you can strap a bag of frozen peas i don't judge
keep ice water in a spray bottle and mist yourself in front of your fan for evaporative cooling. un-iced water will help too but obviously iced gets you maximum relief
the bowl of ice in front of a fan has never worked for me because it's way too humid here but depending on your humidity you could try it
i sleep with ice packs and a towel covering my pillow because the pillowcase getting sweaty is a sensory nightmare and the towel is somehow less horrifying
popsicles (i'm assuming that's what an ice lolly is?) are excellent keep it up. also to counteract the effects of sweating your balls off, you can sprinkle a little salt on the popsicles. i do this with the watermelon ones
if you are subject to the horrors of boobs in a heatwave, my remedy for swamp tits is to adhere panty liners to the part of the bra that goes under the boobs. because nobody wants swamp tits (i might also have been known to put a bag of frozen peas in my bra you do what you gotta do)
liberal and self-indulgent amounts of whining. it won't make you any cooler but at least you're sharing the misery
You are an absolute angel. Yeah I'm a northern Brit so no AC (I have taken to hiding in coffee shops where there is AC but unfortunately they ... you know ... close) and my body functions on the belief that anything above like 12C is t-shirt weather and anything above 25C is dear god no weather so I am truly not built for this 🙈 I once spent one day in 40C and it was the worst experience of my life so I could not do what you're going through!
So tips from someone who has to endure worse than this and regularly are super appreciated 🧡🧡
Some of these I did know but some of them sound like real good shouts. Unfortunately the damn health and safety of my flat means my windows open only a teeny tiny and I have slatted blinds but foil over is a super good shout.
I don't know why I hadn't thought of freezing wet t-shirts. Cause the problem I was having was wet tshirt then just turned into warm and still wet tshirt. Hence sitting in front of the fan because it then stayed cooler but frozen ... yes
And omg yes for wet pillow sensory nightmare, just had to say, yes makes my skin prickle.
Popsicles are ice lollies yes! I'm currently on a mix of strawberry frozen yoghurt ones and these absolute nostalgia on a stick
Tumblr media
And the whining is required. Me and my dad have a daily chat and today's was talking about how shit England were in the football and both of us going "what did you do today?" "Sit about because it is too fucking hot" "Yeah me too"

I still will never understand why it's 20C inside buildings in winter. I'm bringing a t-shirt and shorts to uni so I'm not sweating through my clothes and then I have to change them before and after EVERY class because the building are not connected and it's -25C BEFORE the wind chill outside. And then I have to carry all these layers around all day and I paid for a locker but it's no joke a 20min outdoor walk away from every. single. one. of my classes.
I HAVE A SPERATE BAG FOR MY OUTDOOR CLOTHES
Is it to much to ask that the buildings be at a temp that I can take off my winter jacket and be comfortable? Maybe take a layer or two off but I should be conformable in a range of basic long-sleeve winter tops meant for regular/casual wear.
It would save money and be better for the environment. Stop raising my tuition, make the buildings a reasonable temperature. (Another issue but then uni reported operating profit SO WHY DID TUITION GO UP?)

Heat pumps’ efficiency has been increased over decades, partly because of the early adopters in Nordic countries who tinkered away to the point where a modern version can deliver three to five units of heat for every unit of electricity used to power it. An efficient gas boiler, on the other hand, can only produce as much heat as the energy contained in the fuel being burned. In other words, a heat pump will have a smaller carbon footprint than a gas boiler even when plugged into an electricity grid dependent on high-emitting suppliers. Kent Eilertsen is a maintenance engineer at the Norwegian postal service Posten Bring and looks after two heat pumps in a sorting terminal in Tromsø, 137 miles (220km) north of the Arctic Circle. “It works very well in the cold,” said Eilertsen. The devices can become less efficient when temperatures drop below -15C, he added, but new versions still run at -20C or -25C.

Master - Chapter 25c
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Warning: Adult Content*
I watch with sleepy eyes and a full tummy as Arias continues to scan his way through the stacks of book that surrounded him.
It was the time Master usually put me to sleep, so I was tired but didn't want to sleep alone, it scared me.
Arias had given me a nice big room but I couldn't be inside of it without remembering the night I woke up in it and Master was gone, so I stayed on the wide couch in the study.
The dinner Arias made was better than anything Master ever gave me and even after three plates, I still wanted more but my body said it couldn't take more.
It was like every flavour exploded in my mouth and made a home in it each time I took a bite, I loved it.
I made sure Arias knew how good it was and made sure he rested while I made everything clean again, it was the best way I could say thank you and he hugged me after which made me happy.
Arias told me to go to sleep but I couldn't sleep long without Master, so I followed him to the study and watched him while he tried to figure me out.
I didn't think we would ever find out what I really was.
Master, Arias and his Malcolm looked every day as much as they could and never found anything, no matter how hard they tried.
There was nothing close to what I seemed to be and that scared me because special things were usually treated as bad things.
I didn't want to be special, that always led to pain and I was tired of hurting.
Sleep takes me slowly and quietly, bundling me up in its warmth and whisking me off to a land that had purple skies and pretty people like Arias.
                                                      ******
My eyes pop open at the loud thud that comes from Arias as he drops a heavy book down on the table before him.
The sudden sound pulled me from my deeps and made my body jerk in surprise and fear.
"This is a waste of time," Arias groans to himself as he swings one long arm out, sending the rest of the books crashing to the floor.
I must've made a sound because Arias' sharp eyes shifted to me and the look in them sliced through me like a poisoned blade.
It made my heart freeze and my breathing halt as I looked at him.
Pulling my blanket closer to me, I try to hide behind it while I tried to take in the scent of Master on it to calm me.
But it wasn't working, I felt frozen under Arias' gaze, prisoner to him at this moment and that scared me.
His eyes soften suddenly, the Arias I knew coming to the surface before he looked away.
The tips of his ears with twitching with frustration and his jaw was clenched tightly together as he folded his arms across his chest as if to cage himself in.
I knew he wasn't mad at me, not really, but I still felt a little bad because it was about me.
"I'm sorry Arias," I whisper.
"It's not you that's angering me Kalem," He replies as he pushes his chair back and begins to pace.
It worried me to see him like this because Arias was always so cool and collected, calculated and controlled, never... erratic.
"It's me."
"You didn't do anything wrong," I say as I lower my feet to the ground, my fluffy yellow blanket slipping down to my waist at the movement.
I bury my fingers in it for comfort and squeeze.
"No," he admits, but he was still pacing and his words were still stiff.
"However my potential negligence of this situation could be."
I didn't understand what Arias meant and he knew that, but he didn't correct it for me.
"Arias, what's wrong?" I ask wanting to make it better, to make him smile again.
"Arias."
"I have an idea, no, a suspicion of what you may be," Arias reveals and though his words first brought me joy, it quickly withered away because Arias was still pacing and he didn't look happy.
"I-Is it something b-bad?" I manage after trying to swallow many times, it was hard with how fast my heart was racing.
I was scared and I wanted Master.
"It can be," Arias replies honestly before he releases a twisted laugh that made my skin crawl.
"It has been in the past, that's why we eradicated the species."
My body began to buzz gently, in that way that it did before I popped and I could feel that I was on the edge of doing it.
Everything in my body told me to hide or run, to get away from Arias and anyone who wasn't Master.
But this was Arias and Arias would never hurt me.
Arias was my friend.
“Reviling in my fears, I've been negligent to my kin, my kind and my realm... to you," Arias says as his feet suddenly come to a stop, his back facing me.
"But I must know for certain."
Times slows down in my mind when Arias turns around and looks at me with golden eyes that seemed to burn now with nothing but cruelty and hatred.
My lungs burned as instincts came to life and demanded I escaped but my heart was too torn inside to move with how Arias looked at me now.
Arias' face twisted with pain as he comes at me, was the last thing I saw, before something dark took over every fibre in my being.
