Is supernatural a good watch? Like does it hold up today or something?

ive spent all day thinking abt how to answer this but honestly i still dont even know where to start

is supernatural good? no. it's a 15 year hatecrime.

does it hold up? no. there's an episode in the first season about a racist ghost truck. the first instance of any kind of homosexuality in the show is non-consensual and between a vampire and the woman shes about to kill.

would i recommend it? also no. no one should have to sit through the rough that is some of the most mediocre formulaic writing of all time just for a handful of diamonds.

should you watch it? absolutely.

make no mistake: supernatural is a bad show. it's inconsistent, it's genuinely boring at some points, it went on for far too long, it's offensive, there are way too many incest references, it's all over the place in terms of continuity, half the writers hate the characters they write and the other half hate each other.

BUT. it's like. ok. this show has had a chokehold on my brain and personality for the better part of a decade. even when i was out i was still in it. it's an illness. the events of november 5th 2020 gave me actual physical symptoms. but once you have the disease it's kinda fun like i wont lie i am having a ball in this bitch

the fun of supernatural was never in the show itself. it's in the hyperanalysis and the external forces and the meta and the convention stories and the what-couldve-been and the drama. genuinely unparalleled media experience. but once you're in you're in for good. there is no escape.

also: the gay angel. the character of all time.
