How do you decide which animals to use as inspiration for your skyscraper god au redesigns? Do you start with a specific animal in mind and then base a character off of that? Or do you go looking for an animal that matches up with what you want in the pony?

Were you already familiar with all of the animals you chose?

I grew up on national geographic, so I'm already familiar with many many many animals that I can draw upon for design.

When I start a character, I think about what animal works for them either colorwise or thematically. I knew before I even started that Luna would be a Black heron, which is a bird I knew about and loved before the "nighttime! daytime!" meme. It's the perfect way to create night!

Rainbow dash was easy. Peregrine falcon because its the fastest animal on the planet.

Vapor Trail's choice was twofold. I chose a swallow because they're strong flyers, and her story is that she's an unexpectedly skillful flyer that people can't tell at first. Little puffballs being aerodynamic flight machines is a fun reveal. And then tree swallow (with a few things added from barn swallow for fun) come in about the right colors, AND that iridescence that the pretty shading in her mane seems to suggest

A lot of the other choices are based more on colors and aesthetics than themes, or just themes without color. Celestia is a tern/albatross for the long wings (and large size), Fluttershy is a barn owl for the barred markings and color, Twilight has flamingo wings for the color only. Cozy Glow has cockatiel cheeks for the "innocence". Cadance is a swan for its romantic symbolism.

And some aren't based on anything, just me going ham at the design. Sometimes I get help as well!

Time for some qsmp egg designs! Since I was working off of the idea that dragons adapt and change to look similar to their caregivers before they hatch, it was really difficult for some eggs since I don't know most of the members of the server + Pomme and Richarlyson have more than two parents. I also based the spots on their shells on their favorite colors, which was also difficult since the wiki doesn't have them all listed.

Anyways I'm glad with how these turned out.

Leaving explanations for all the design choices below for anyone curious.

Some basic details about the eggs, so far their colors have not completely set in so some of their original purple coloring can still be seen; this is most notable for Tilin, JuanaFlippa, and Trump, who all died before their new colors could get past their shells. All of the eggs started out quadrupedal but quickly adapted to stand on their hind legs as well as adapting to have opposable thumbs allowing them to pick up and use items.

Tallulah: Starting off, she has hair coming from the top of her head and the tip of her tail, the color and style are from Wilbur, however she hasn't seen much of his avian form so the positioning actually comes from Phil. Speaking of Phil, because she has been under his care for quite a while she has also gained many traits from him, such as an extra talon on the side of her heels and pin feathers sprouting from her front legs/arms. Her scales have also started changing to an orange hue, similar to that of my Wilbur's markings, and her secondary colors are a darker green because of Phil.

Bobby: Bobby is my favorite egg but gave me a lot of trouble due to not really knowing much about Roier so he pulls a lot of traits from Jaiden and the common traits of the fandom's designs. Like Tallulah he has pin feathers coming from his arms and extra talons, however his talons are on the back if his heel. Like Jaiden, he has a feathers on the tip of his tail. While his secondary is a lilac from Jaiden's influence his main color is a duller blue as the fandom has convinced me that he would've been blue if he got to hatch. I had drawn him alive for this, but once dead, he would have a large hole in his shell just under his overalls.

Chayanne: Probably the easiest design as his traits are about the same as Tallulah's. His tail feathers however are both shaped and patterned like Phil's own tail feathers. His scales are also green and gold to match Phil's clothing. Now that Missa is back, Chayanne's secondary may start to change into a purple/blue or, after he hatches, he may gain bone markings. Leonarda: Unfortunately most of her design comes from Foolish, such as her webbed feet, finned tail, and gold and silver coloring, the best I could figure out to add some of Vegetta's influence was to have the silver be more purple than the blue that Foolish has.

Ramon: Honestly just made Ramón shades of brown since I couldn't figure out much colorwise form Fit. However he does have other features such as a longer tail than most of the eggs, plus he is also the largest of his siblings. His iconic mustache is also made up of his larger spots, which he uniquely has white spots over top of the brown ones.

Dapper: Dapper was also an easy egg design since Bbh is his only parent, so I gave him the typical black and red palette as well as a longer tail with long fur coming from the bottom. His design might change a bit as I eventually figure out my design for Bbh.

Richarlyson: I'll be honest, I kinda gave up, I don't really know enough about the brazilian streamers to add any specific feature, so for color he is made up of a light green with alternating yellow and a dark green. He is also the only egg with spines running down his back, however they aren't sharp at all yet.

Pomme: While Pomme also has the problem of having many parents, I've seen her the most around Baghera, who has a very distinct look. So because of this, Pomme has many duck features, such as tail feathers, pin feathers on her arms, webbing between her toes, an extra talon on the back of her heel, and her main scale color being a more pastel yellow. For main colors, I decided to take the main color from the other french members, make the pastel, and have them alternate on Pomme.

Tilín: Like father like son, Tilín is, or at least would have been, very blue. He doesn't have any duck features due to his death being so early and that I also haven't decided if I want Quackity to be an avian or not. Tilín is also the smallest egg. :)

JuanaFlippa: Once again, due to dying so early, she wasn't able to develop a lot of traits or color. The traits she did get was a longer tail and she would've been a light green with yellow accents.

Trump: Unlike Tilín or JuanaFlippa who have large cracks in their shells to represent their deaths, Trump's shell has become soft and discolored, to the point his spots' original color cant be determined, to represent his death to neglect. Because of this, his limbs are thinner, tail is shorter and his scales are duller; any possible change in his colors is barely noticeable.

but in ace race the shoes have a built in tech that corresponds to any power up or speed boost their is. (during a power up the shouse sprout golder wings that help the player )

They are not real wings of corse they are all tech

Same same colorwise but with a icon of the animal they are representing on the back

Equipment-MccWatchTM:: they have a watch on their wrist telling on wich call they are in (by default its their own team but they can join other teams or individual people if they want)

On the post with the wool braid of red and black (more or less colorwise) I saw that you had divided the roll into eight other rolls, by color. Is that something typically done? I've just been spinning straight from the braid, and of course I get a mishmash of colors. I've got a couple other braids I haven't gotten to yet, I might have to try.

I always approach my spinning projects based on the final object I'm likely to make, and consider things like matching, stripe/color band width (especially if the item has a changing diameter), or highlighting/muting certain characteristics of the fiber. This informs how I split the fiber, handle colors, target yarn weight, and whether I do any additional prep such as blending or carding.

In this case, I knew that I wanted 4 skeins of yarn total, comprised of 2 matching gradient sets, each a 2-ply, so I could knit matching stranded socks with the two gradients playing against each other. Because the fiber was dyed as one long gradient, this (plus not wanting to weigh down my spindles with larger skeins) dictated how I split it up and spun from it.

You might be interested in Jillian Moreno's blog, particularly the color sample-along she ran in early 2020 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) or the related insta hashtag for more examples of how you can manipulate color in spinning. When I was first learning to spin I also stalked various handspun-only Ravelry project searches to get a sense of what dyeing and color handling methods I preferred for hand-dyed fiber. This is, of course, a great way to discover new dyers too...

In between my first and second viewings of DA2, I read an article in which the costume designer mentioned that, in the first movie, they had deliberately put Violet and Mary in very similar costumes--similar coloring, same length dress with similar V necklines, matching jewelry--during the end ballroom scene, except that Mary is in a more obviously modern style.

So on the second viewing of DA2, I kept my eyes open for similar patterns and found a TON. The second grouping features scenes that are intercut, and the rest are scenes where the two of them are together. And just in general, it's interesting to see how Mary's costumes are different in this movie--her blouses are higher-cut, more neutral colors (especially for the blouses), more cardigans and wraps. Very Violet-esque.

I've included a bonus Barber because I think it's neat that while Mary and Violet are similar structurally (cream tops with additional layers, maroon/purple skirts), he and Mary are also complementary colorwise, with half their outfits being maroon and half a neutral color. And the bottom image I've pointed out before, with bonus Edith and Mary matching the teal bedspread in Violet's final moments.

karlach's outfit already is good colorwise, and i don't have plans for changing halsin, jaheira, or minsc's fits.

NO. 1 - RAPTON

I'll be busy this summer while Dragons Rising is airing, so instead of a full-blown seasonal line, I'm pouring all my love into a two-parter celebrating the mysterious new villains! Based solely on promo and teaser material, these aren't as analytical as my usual designs - just vibes and good old-fashioned razzmatazz.

The raw power of kicking one of your goons into the stratosphere and then telling said goon to go away is simply too good to not borrow for artistic inspiration. I'm thrilled that we're getting Giles Panton back on cast, so of course, we had to commemorate it by tackling the impossible and making Rapton serve even harder.

As cool as the canon symmetrical gold body armor is, I think anything inspired by Rapton needs a little more flair - like, asymmetrical armored cold-shoulder trench coat level flair. The metallic elongated hexagon print is carried over from the Beatrix design for a subtle hint of Imperium continuity.

I've translated what's either the world's most poorly-planned grill or just severe decay into spiky lapels. The Imperium armor stipend is clearly insane, so I can understand where the funds for the dental benefits went.

The shades are straight-up plagiarized. No notes. If it ain't broke...

Multi-buckled, steel-platform boots are designed for optimal subordinate-kicking - guaranteed to stay on during even the hardest punts or your money back. The matching fingerless gloves are just there for bonus intimidation points.

The indigo and orange neon bodysuit, paired with a charcoal crop top, belt, and capris, are lifted straight from the Imperium HQ shown in the teaser clip - in fact, the dark grid pattern on the top, belt, and capris is a screenshot of the front of the dragon transport kennels that I trimmed into shape and shaded. Colorwise, the deep violet tones and neon orange give a little visual depth to a design that's otherwise all black and gold.

Who needs a practical shoulder pauldron when you can have a hexagonal shoulder protector held on by overly-camouflaged straps? This - as well as the tiny gold buckles holding it in place and the gold belt buckle - were modeled after the Imperium symbol that appears in the trailers (but not an exact replica because I couldn't get the little spiky bits right).

In case you needed more convincing that this one worked: Giles Panton retweeted this one. That's a stamp of approval if I've ever seen one.

Could have gone with skating for Tsubasa but that's basically their everyday attire, so instead I went with their hobby of working on machines and playing around with tech. Starting from the top, you're going to see almost none of their face, between thick safety goggles and a heavy fashion-oriented mask that maybe has a BIT of protective elements. A heavy-duty apron is a must as well, plus some gloves that give them enough fine control with open fingers to really manipulate the fiddly things. Normally, they wear sneakers of some kind, for ease of skating, but even if their machine work doesn't require steel-toed shoes, they'll take the opportunity. Finally, of course, their tool bag, which has all the wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, scissors, measuring implements, and anything else they could possibly need.

For Izumi, unlike Rio or some of the others, she's big into traditional clothing. As a supremely tall mixed-race trans girl with silver hair, she stands out everywhere, when what she wants is to blend in and be unassuming, and a kimono at a festival is something that's close enough to a uniform that she wouldn't stand out as much. She doesn't have a ton of opportunities to dress up like this, and she wouldn't be able to afford a ton of this stuff, but still. Take her out and let her get dressed up!

Colorwise, she likes blue and white, so a predominantly white kimono with a blue and white floral pattern, and a matching parasol. She wouldn't wear her hair up in her little horns, and would instead tie it up with a ribbon and some small adornments, and then the standard socks and sandals and she'd be good to go... if this kimono wasn't about $1800 just to rent, at least. But, a girl can dream, right?

I have this thought spinning around my head of Ryan doing a cologne or makeup ad with Karina as like a team collab. And the company invites my insert because her hero costume kinda matches them colorwise (I gotta draw them soon) and she doesn't have a lot of stuff line up currently so it's good exposure!

So they're taking photos and everything and the photographer is like, "It would be really cute if you guys leave lipstick marks on his mask" So Karina leaves one on the cheek side of it and I'm just,,,off to the side, really nervous gzuwhzb So Ryan starts teasing me, saying it would be an honor to receive my kisses and "I know you wanna kiss me anyways since you're always talking about me ;]" while Karina assures me that it's only a job and I'm allowed to back out if I'm uncomfortable.

And I'm just like, "Okay, okay! I can do this!" And just kisses him in the front of the helmet. And the photographer is like, "Ummm, I was actually suggesting you kiss the side of it". While my insert is disintegrating in the corner, Ryan just laughs and says he likes it and he wants to continue the photoshoot like this. did you design Starcatcher with bleeding-heart doves in mind? the heart on her chest reminds me of them

Yes indeed! I base all my Pegasus and alicorns off birds that are thematically relevant. For starcatcher, I couldn't figure out something that matched with her color off the top of my head, so i asked local bird enthusiast @silksinging for help. We went back and forth suggesting things that either matched thematically (indigo bunting > flycatcher) or colorwise (budgie > victoria crown dove) we agreed dove was a good choice, but Soli wanted a tropical species since starcatcher lives on a tropical island. Blue ground dove was too plain, pink headed fruit dove was too green. But then soli was like Bleeding heart ludor. and it was PERFECT because the colors could reinterpreted in Starcatcher colors, and the bleeding heart is so good for this hopeless romantic who keeps granting her crush's wishes to the sky

her wings are also based on the gradient of peach to gray, with the bright blue chosen based on starcatcher's toy.

So yes, and it's thanks to @solilakoi (art blog) expertise in all things avian (and MLP)
