What is the TWHHA Challenge?

Authors and artists are welcomed (and encouraged) to join us in creating an idea/story around the idea that Everlark would have happened anyway, specifically in this case, what would have happened if Katniss and Peeta were married before, during, or after Catching Fire. Pairing: Everlark Type: Fan Fiction or Fan Art. Words: Over 1000 words (drabbles, one-shots or short multi-chapter fic are all welcome! What's the deadline?

1. You can confirm participation until Dec 10th (in Tumblr, answering this post and tagging @publiusao3) and you will be granted access to the collection to submit your work. 2. You can submit your fics up to Dec 30th midnight (CET time!) 3. Collection will be live Jan 1st, 2024 with all submissions listed with anonymous authors 4. Writers will be revealed Jan 10th

So let’s explore “What ifs” and send your fics on how Katniss and Peeta would have ended together without being reaped, or if only one would have been reaped, or if there were no games… or any other “if”

You can win an illustration from one of the artists commissioned!! The winners will be able to request an Everlark moment/scene the artist will draw for them!

Guidelines:

1. If you are a participant (writer or artist), just for participating and submitting your story to the collection, you will be eligible. There will be a drawing (Deadline: 24th Dec)

2. If you are a participant or reader, you can try to guess who the author of each of the stories is. Just write a comment in each story guessing the writer. You will get 1 point for each writer you guess. If there’s a tie there will be a drawing among the finalists. (Deadline: Until the 1st of Jan when works will be public)

3. If you are a participant or reader you will get 1 point for each comment (different from the author one) you leave on each fic! Be aware that comments will need to be different from one fic to another; be creative and show your love to writers and artists!! (Deadline: 15th January)

WIP Wednesday: are you planning on participating in the This Would Have Happened Anyway challenge in December? If you are, do you have an idea yet? (I know part of the fun is the anonymous aspect, so be as vague as you please)

I voted One Victor because I thought that might motivate me to write the In-Panem version of The Orange Castle (I don’t mind admitting this since everyone would have guessed it was me anyways)

But, in the end I believe Married during/after Catching Fire, won. Assuming that ends up as the prompt, I maaaaay have already started something 🫣

It’s…. pretty fluffy - just like lots of pure wish fulfillment fluff…

Currently I’m in a weird limbo - I keep getting bursts of inspiration and writing chunks at a time… then I remember that the deadline is months away: it’s not that I want to wait till the last minute, it’s more like: if I finish in Nov it will be torture to wait til Dec

But what about you: I thought of you immediately when poll closed - The prompt is daunting enough without having written +90k words of a fic about it already 🙀 Do you plan on participating?

Writing Update

So, weirdly enough I had a dream earlier this morning that may have solved my plot issues with the next chapter of Golden Cages. I’m tentatively excited  to work on that fic now. In other news, I’ve been working daily on my fic for the TWHHA challenge summer 2023.  I’ve made a lot of progress. 17 pages so far. But now I need a break. (just for the rest of the night) Because wow, I just can’t look at it anymore. But at least I’m getting it done. 

This has all been thanks in big part to @mega-aulover because she has been encouraging me to write and also taught me a new kick ass way to organize my docs.

We should do this thing where each of us chooses a random fate for Snow/Coin (like killed by crashing hovercraft, slipped and fell from the balcony) and then the other person would have to incorporate that into their fic.

My fic for the This Would Have Happened Anyway Summer '24 Challenge.

Instead of focusing on them and making love rather than rebellion the reason for the Mockingjay’s actions, President Snow decides separating them, showing their relationship as insignificant and slowly fading them into obscurity is the way to go. Meanwhile, Katniss can’t figure out why being districts apart from Peeta hurts so much when they hadn’t spoken in months before this anyway.

I was expecting at least a partner to engage in all the speculation, but fine. I'll do it by myself.

SPOILERS for the district 13 challenge fics ahead. Stop reading if you haven't read the stories.

anyway, on with my reviews: (I'm only making guesses for the ones I actually have a clue)

The Other Side of The War (Yeah, this time I'm actually checking if I have the titles right or not) This was heartbreaking to read. Seriously, I actually stopped reading, did a break with a lighter one, and then got back to it. Katniss taking care of Peeta, and then him taking care of her... that was so sweet. Him eating the rest of her food (they are soooo married). And then the vow. Man, this is one of my favorites. My first guess was endlessnightlock, based purely on the fact that she's one of my favorite authors and I loved this story so much, I was like "it has to be @endlessnightlock, right?" Changing it to Lilymaid @wistfulweaverwoman, now though.

ash and memory I am so pissed this was so short. Like, it's so beautifully written, I didn't want that conversation to end. I did try to guess in the comments, but if I'm being honest, I really haven't got a clue to who it is, bu whoever you are, you really wrote a piece of art.

A Bun in The Oven I was saving this for last because it was so big, but then someone sent me a message asking if it was mine, and I had to take a look. Ohhh, I really wished it was mine. @mollywog you are so obviously the writer, I can spot you from a hundred miles. This is clearly and unequivocally you, and I love the plot twist. The bun in the oven?? Love it. And you know I'm a sucker for Delly, so thank you for your service to mankind.

The Storehouse Peeta as a writer? Brilliant. Love it. You know what would be cool? An alternate universe where Peeta is a soap opera writer and he keeps writing his casual interactions with Katniss into his episodes, and Prim starts watching and starts to get suspicious of the similarities between her sister and the main character. Anyway. Sorry for the sidetrack. I would say this one was mine, if I didn't know any better. I'm not sure who it is, but I want to say @lemonluvgirl because seriously? This is the only fic with a naked Peeta so far. Plus getting them on an intimate setting? You've set it up really good for another chapter.

Even Days: my challenge piece for TWHHA, a what if Katniss knew she loved Peeta before he came back and helped during recovery

The Loneliest Time: based on the Carly Rae Jepsen song of the same name. Katniss can’t sleep and runs over to Peeta’s house in the middle of the night because she can’t sleep. Mutual pining/undefined relationship/if they loved each other less they could talk about it more

No 1 Everlark Shipper: set in the perspective of Peeta’s middle brother on reaping day, follows the first Games.
