On the one hand, I do think that Taber deserves the chance to yell at her mother if she ever happens to run into Astrid before the endgame, and it might be fun to make that happen
On the other hand, I do think it would be fairly satisfying for her to no longer have to engage in her family’s bullshit outside of Judoc being in her periphery

Mormons!!?!?
https://www.rawstory.com/news/kamala-harris-mormons/
A group of Kamala Harris supporters convened in a virtual call Tuesday evening. It was an eclectic mix with attorneys, lawmakers, podcasters, singers and a mayor. There were, certainly, Democrats on the speaker lists, but also Republicans who have decided to step away from their party’s ticket this year.
What connected all of them? Their Latter-day Saint faith.
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may be a substantial force in presidential outcomes in deeply red Utah and battleground Arizona, according to speakers, including Mayor of Mesa, Arizona, John Giles, who is Republican, but is a vocal Harris supporter; former Democratic U.S. representative from Utah Ben McAdams; and Salt Lake City Democratic legislators Sen. Luz Escamilla and Rep. Brian King, the latter also being the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in Utah.
Data shows that Latter-day Saints are poised to support Harris “more than any other presidential Democratic ticket in 60 years,” said Jacob Rugh, an associate professor in the Department of Sociology at church-run Brigham Young University, during the call. He cited his research and past races that have moved the needle left in Utah and Maricopa County in Arizona.
“My geospatial analysis shows that areas heavy with LDS chapels in the east valley were most likely to flip blue (in 2020),” Rugh said on Tuesday. Nationwide, in 2020, 1 in 3 Latter-day Saint voters picked the Biden-Harris ticket, and the majority of the faith’s millennial and Gen Z voters chose the Democratic ticket, according to Rugh.
The 2020 Biden-Harris ticket performance in Utah “was the best of any Democratic ticket since 1964. Salt Lake County flipped blue in 2016 and, in 2020, voters did what others said was impossible by flipping four precincts blue in Provo,” Rugh said. He predicts they “will flip even more in 2024.”
There are 2.1 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah, according to data from the church. It’s the most prominent faith in Utah, which has historically voted red. There are also more than 442,800 members in Arizona.
About 1,400 people tuned into Tuesday’s call, a first from a group called Latter-day Saints for Harris-Walz, which on its social media boasted of as many as 2,600 registrants. The event came the same day Harris announced she had picked Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.
The remarks from presenters, mostly from Utah and Arizona, were preceded by a prayer. Speakers also cited scripture as they spoke about the character of the Republican presidential nominee, former President Donald Trump, and to explain why, in their view, the most Latter-day Saint-aligned candidate is Harris.
Mostly, it was a discussion on how to organize to elect Harris. After all, Rob Taber, an organizer said, Latter-day Saints “from missions and ministering, (are) pretty good at reaching out to people and building bridges.”
However, Taber also advised those on the call not to use ward or stake membership lists when reaching out to people because that violates the church’s neutrality policy.
“But you can share on social media how you’re feeling. This actually does make a big difference,” Taber said.
‘Examine the character’
Ask Mesa Mayor John Giles why he decided to support a Democratic candidate and he may cite the arguments he made in an op-ed he wrote in Arizona Central criticizing Trump’s refusal to accept the outcome of the 2020 election and his disinvestment in cities like Mesa, and where he called on other Arizona Republicans to choose “country over party this election.”
But, he may also mention an admonition he heard at a Latter-day Saint church meeting that encouraged members to be good citizens, to participate in elections and to “examine the character of the candidates.”
“Man, I sincerely hope that we get that admonition this election season, because I think that would help our brothers and sisters to look with fresh eyes at this election,” Giles said on Tuesday.
Giles also cited the church’s stance on defending the U.S. Constitution and how different that perspective is from Trump’s view, he said.
Trump is “more than willing to compromise the rule of law and the United States Constitution to further his own gains,” Giles said. “I think that we have a particular mission as Latter-day Saints to step up and point those things out to our friends inside the church and outside as well.”
Some of the attendees, such as McAdams, said they vote Democrat “not in spite of our religion, but because of our religion,” arguing that “negativity, divisiveness, rage, political violence, discrimination and racism are not of God.”
Utah Senate Minority Leader Luz Escamilla said that, as she was preparing to teach Sunday School, it was clear to her that Trump may not be aligned with Latter-day Saint doctrine. She quoted Elder Dallin H. Oaks, first counselor in the church’s First Presidency.
“He said ‘knowing that we are all children of God, give us a divine vision of the worth of all others and the will and ability to rise above prejudice and racism.’ The current candidate for the Republican Party is literally working tirelessly to create prejudice and racism against Americans,” Escamilla said. “And that alone is a reason why all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should be supporting Vice President Harris for President of the United States in the 2024 election cycle.”
Utah gubernatorial candidate Rep. Brian King also praised Harris’ running mate, arguing that Walz fits into the model he likes to see in the country’s candidates and elected officials.
“He’s the kind of candidate that leaders of our faith have called for us to support, a person of integrity, compassion, with a commitment to service,” King said. “I’m so glad that Vice President Harris has revealed her own personality so clearly in her choice of running mate.”

“A group photograph of Lepers, taken at the ‘pest house’" c. 1880s. Photographer unknown, albumen print with Schoene's imprint (from a private collection).
Chinese Lepers and San Francisco's "Pesthouse"
The rare photo of a group of Chinese quarantined ostensibly for leprosy remains notable not only for its profound sadness but also serves as evidence of the shameful weaponization of public health and medical scapegoating of the early Chinese community in San Francisco.
“To the sanitarians of the 1870s," Joan B. Trauner wrote in 1978 for the California History journal, “Chinatown was more than a slum. It was ’laboratory of infection,’ peopled by ‘lying and treacherous’ aliens who had minimal regard for the health of the American people. The general acceptance of the germ theory in the 1880s did little to dispel the popular belief that epidemic outbreaks were directly attributable to conditions within Chinatown. As before, medical theorization was inseparably linked with social attitudes and prejudices. . . . Proposals to quarter the Chinese outside of the city limits of San Francisco were advanced at this time, primarily under the sponsorship of the Anti-Chinese Council of the Workingmen's party. Similar proposals had been set forth since the 1850s and would recur again in the 1800s and at the time of the bubonic plague crisis in the early 1900s.”
Tumblr media
The Wasp, Vol. 8, No. 304, published on May 26, 1882. Created by George Frederick Keller (from the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum).
In the last quarter of the 19th century, local officialdom deflected criticism of their repeated failure of sanitation programs and policy by attributing various outbreaks of smallpox, syphilis and bubonic plague to the residents of San Francisco’s Chinatown.
Thus, the presence of lepers in the Chinatown area produced great concern for both the medical community and the general public. It was observed that by 1875, a significant number of lepers with particularly repulsive appearances had migrated to San Francisco from different parts of the state. Although a few sought treatment at the Twenty Sixth Street Lazaretto (at Army Street), public health officials believed that the majority were concealed in underground dens of Chinatown.
During the 1870s and early 1880s, according to Trauner, very little was known about the causes of leprosy. It was assumed to be hereditary, contagious, incurable, more prevalent among males than females, and possibly something that could be eradicated through improved hygiene. One city health officer, John L. Meares MD, suggested in 1876 that leprosy among the Chinese population was “simply the result of generations of syphilis, transmitted from one generation to another.”
Others believed that leprosy was inherent in the Chinese people and had been spread to the Caucasian race through the smoking of opium pipes that had been handled by Chinese lepers.

“5965 White women in Opium Den, Chinatown, S.F. Copyrighted by I.W. Taber, May 31st 1892 (from the collection of the Bancroft Library). This and another Taber photo were staged with an actor playing a Chinese man, looking at two women asleep on couches.
As early as 1871, the Chinese were accused of introducing the feared “Mongolian leprosy”" to the West Coast. During the leprosy scare of the 1870s, health officers decided that lepers should not receive hospital care at the city's expense. Dr. A. B. Stout, a prominent physician on the Board of Health, supported the admission of Chinese individuals to the city hospital. He believed there was no reason to exclude Chinamen and argued that they had an equal right to demand hospital admission. However, others strongly objected, considering it an outrage to mix Chinese individuals, suffering from various unclean and incurable diseases, with civilized citizens. Although local authorities were hesitant to admit Chinese patients to municipal facilities, they were also reluctant to provide sanitary services within Chinatown.
Tumblr media
"A Leper" no date, taken in San Francisco CA. Photographer unknown (from a private collection).
Instead, they insisted that the Chinese associations should take care of them and send them back to China. Thus, each district association (or “wui gwun”) in San Francisco maintained a small medical facility for their elderly or sick members. The facilities were often simple and minimal, consisting of just a few empty rooms furnished with straw mats. Despite violating city health codes, local officials permitted their operation. In 1876, an amendment to California's general police law was passed, making it illegal for individuals with leprosy to have regular contact with the general population. It stipulated that such individuals should be confined to “lazarettos” or lepers' quarters. From August 1876 to October 1878, known lepers were housed in these Chinese "hospitals."
Professor Guenter B. Risse, MD, PhD, who has written extensively about the politicization and weaponization of public health and about disease throughout San Francisco and US history, wrote about the fear-mongering and racialization of leprosy against the Chinese as follows:
On the morning of September 19, 1878, Charles C. O’Donnell, a physician with dubious credentials and the leader of the rabidly racist Anti-coolie League, seized a Chinatown dweller grotesquely afflicted with highly visible leprous sores. Forcing the man to mount an open delivery wagon, this practitioner turned politician proceeded to parade the disgraced individual through the streets of San Francisco. Stopping at several key downtown intersections before reaching Market Street and reaching the swanky Palace Hotel, O’Donnell harangued a growing and terrified crowd, emphasizing the great danger of contagion posed by his repulsive “moon-eyed leper ” At the same time, pamphlets were distributed featuring the drawing of a Chinese face ravaged by the disease and proclaiming the existence of “a thousand lepers in Chinatown.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pamphlet issued in the Fall of 1878 by Charles O'Donnell of the Anti-Coolie League (from the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Yale University).
In 1878 and again in 1883, health authorities took action in Chinatown, identifying the lepers and relocating them to the Twenty-Sixth Street Hospital. This decrepit facility, also known as the "Leper Asylum" or "Pest-House," primarily served the purpose of housing Chinese patients with leprosy and smallpox. This policy accomplished the purpose of segregating Chinese patients to this hospital and eventually repatriating all Chinese lepers to China.
Tumblr media
“A Group of Lepers at the Door of the Pesthouse,” Drawing published in the San Francisco Call, July 1, 1896. Illustrator unknown (from the California Digital Newspaper Collection).
Tumblr media
“Pesthouse Annex.” Drawing of the isolation establishment with a view of the surroundings, trees, and fence, as well as two inmates. The rickety building housing chronic cases, notably leprosy sufferers, is propped up with supporting beams; the roof is caving in and there are holes in the walls. Drawing published in the San Francisco Call, January 3, 1896 (from the California Digital Newspaper Collection).
The city-sponsored "pesthouse" remains a little-known and unattractive part of San Francisco history. The usage of terms such as "lazaretto" or even "hospital" was calculated to mask an undesirable disease and the offensive affliction of a despised segment of the population. Administrators began referring to the institution as the “leper hospital” and eventually simply as the "26th Street hospital." However, and as author Guenter B. Risse has observed, one frustrated health official, Martin Regensburger, the president of the San Francisco Health Board, proclaimed in the early 1890s that the Pesthouse was aptly named, as it truly represented its nature. Upon seeing the deplorable state of the 26th Street compound, Regensburger protested and suggested that it would be better to keep afflicted individuals in their homes rather than send them to a dilapidated facility.
Tumblr media
“Patients Awaiting the Coming of the New Remedy in the Corridor of the Pesthouse.” Drawing published in the San Francisco Call, July 1, 1896 (from the California Digital Newspaper Collection).
As Trauner wrote 35 years ago, the federal quarantine law of February 15, 1893, gave the United States Marine Hospital Service direct responsibility for administration of port quarantine. The new federal law triggered a series of jurisdictional disputes between the quarantine officer of San Francisco and officers of the Marine Hospital Service into the next century and hindered effective administration of quarantine procedures.
Unfortunately, the politicization of disease and demonization of Asians has continued to this day – heard in the rhetoric of a US president who repeatedly referred to COVI-19 as the “China” virus and the “Kung Flu” to applauding crowds around the country.
Tumblr media
A Board of Health inspector meets with patients at the San Francisco Pesthouse. Drawing published in the San Francisco Call, January 3, 1896 (from the California Digital Newspaper Collection).
As for the Chinese men seen in the old Schoene photo, little is known about their fate. Out of the 128 lepers admitted to the 26th Street lazaretto between July 1871 and April 1890, 115 were classified as "Mongolians," and, ultimately, 83 of them were sent back to China.

chapter 5
I tried to swallow the lump in my throat as Nurse Ratched motioned for the two of us to follow her. Billy slowly reached out and took my hand. I squeezed it as tightly as I could. If it hurt him, he didn’t say anything about it. We went into the back of the nurse’s station and Nurse Ratched closed the door behind us. Billy and I stood there, holding hands and trying not to lose our minds.
“Billy, does your mother know about this?” she asked finally. I watched Billy swallow hard. He shook his head slowly.
“P-p-p-please, d-d-don’t t-tell my m-mother.” He quickly said. Nurse Ratched gave him a tight lipped smile. “Sh-she d-d-doesn’t n-need to to k-know.”
“And what about you? Does your cousin know about this?” She turned to me. I shook my head.
“No. And I don’t see how this would hurt any of his campaigns. If I’m being honest, me being in here does more damage than this would.” I shrugged. Nurse Ratched looked between Billy and me. She sighed and shook her head. It was a long while before she spoke again. With each passing second, Billy’s grip tightened on my hand and my anxiety grew worse. When she sighed again, I saw the look on Billy’s face shift to one of pure terror at losing me.
“Alright, fine. No one needs to know about this outside of here.” She looked at Billy and it seemed like her forever hard gaze softened. “You will eventually need to tell your mother about this. I won’t be the one to tell her but if she finds out some other way then it is on both our heads.” Billy nodded at once and smiled over at me, relief taking over his face. She turned towards me. “And you will need to tell your cousin.” I nodded and returned Billy’s grin.
“C-can we go b-back to the p-party n-now?” He asked and Nurse Ratched nodded before running a hand down her face. Billy gently tugged me back into the day room where Taber was waiting for us.
“So?” He asked. From the look on his face you could clearly tell that he knew something was up.
“Everything is fine.” I said, gently tugging Billy closer. “We’re not in trouble. But we will eventually need to tell our relatives about this.” Taber nodded and we closed our little circle as we watched the rest of the patients in the ward.
“I know how she found out.” Taber eventually whispered. Billy and I looked over at him confused.
“I thought it w-was b-because of our d-d-dancing.” Billy said. He looked at me and I nodded in confirmation.
“I mean it would make sense since that’s when she came after us.” I agreed. Taber shook his head with a small smile. It was one that suggested mischief and mayhem, something I was always game for at Halloween.
“It was Harding.” Taber whispered while jerking his thumb over his shoulder. We could see Harding looking at us smuggly. “He told her while the two of you were outside putting up decorations.” I bit my lip and gave Harding a little wave. He jumped and turned away quickly at being caught.
“So what do you propose we do about that?” I asked, mirth shining in my eyes.
“S-something that equals w-what he d-did to us.” The look on Billy’s face told me all I needed to know. “B-but not n-now.” My face fell and Taber nodded in agreement.
“If we do it tonight, we could get in a lot more trouble.” Taber tapped his chin in thought. “We can start at the next outing. It will be easier to do something away from her prying eyes.” Billy nodded.
“P-plus it won’t be as easy h-here with l-limited resources.” I begrudgingly agreed as Billy tugged me back to the dancefloor. “N-now let’s f-f-forget him and enjoy ourselves.” I sighed as I settled into Billy as we gently swayed on the dancefloor. Billy pressed a soft kiss to my temple before spinning me around.
“Promise me we won’t let him get away with this?” I whispered when Billy pulled me back. He shook his head.
“We won’t.” He promised sincerely. “We won’t.” We danced the night away and when Nurse Ratched left, she gave the two of us a rare smile.

Skwisgaar for the ask meme!
oh the boy. the Man Himself. one of my new faves who i slept on for like ten years for some reason...
1) Uncommon headcanon about them I am deeply attached to.
the accent is funny to him first and foremost - he finds it far more amusing than anything else to just be purposefully obtuse. “this ams just the ways that i speaks :) there ams no needs to be upsets :)”
2) Widely-held headcanon about them that I reject.
stupid skwisgaar. mean skwisgaar. mean and stupid skwisgaar. like all of the band are dickheads, they’re all dumb as a sack of hammers, skwisgaar’s moments of meanness and stupidity are not Unique! it is not a thing that should make him stand out! especially when that characterization of him makes him come across as like, regina george or a particularly bitchy gay roommate. he’s sweet, and cares about his friends, and knows things! like-
3) What were they like as a kid? What was their early life like?
serveta’s brother and his wife didn’t/couldn’t have children, and lived close by. so when things were especially rough or unpleasant at home, skwisgaar would go spend time with them which they always welcomed. his uncle is the one who introduced him to his guitar teacher, a friend of his that he knew.
he “left home” when he was about fifteen which was him permanently moving into his aunt and uncle’s place. which was like, a fifteen minute walk and so it wasn’t a huge deal and was better for him in the long run.
4) Symbols/motifs that I associate with them–colors, animals, zodiac signs, mythic themes, imagery, objects, etc.
skwisgaar, to me, is a leo first and foremost.
his tarot cards are the lovers (major arcana) and the three of pentacles (minor arcana).
it’s odd but whenever i think of him, i think of vangelis? that has always been linked in my brain, i don’t know if it was the winning combo of my dad letting me watch metalocalypse as a kid while also making me watch cosmos to supplement scientific education or what. but it clicks in the sense that he’s somewhat melancholy, distant, operatic, beautiful.
i think white and gold when writing him, doves, the norse god freyr, roses, red wines, heavy colognes. very sensory heavy in ways that are hard to word without going into purple prose - just how he wants to be perceived.
5) Other characters or types of people I have in mind when I draw and/or write them.
the guy who makes sure you don’t sit by yourself at a party. the guy that will make a joke about himself faster than others can make them. the guy who always has a new story, hobby or experience to talk about with your friend group who will accidentally on purpose one-up whatever story, hobby or experience you talk about.
6) What I project onto them when I draw and/or write them.
failed gifted child syndrome. aka “i am not immediately great at this? this is not going to my very hyper-specific plan? oh well mind if i just (has a breakdown)”
7) A surprising hobby, interest, or phobia they have.
craftgaar lives in my heart, forever. and ever and ever and ever. but i also feel like he would be interested in music history? he’s got zithers. taber drums. lutes. has a series of accurate medieval music albums that he releases under a fake name.

Briar is @childofeberron's oc: a late-30s-something half-orc oathbreaker paladin; she was once sworn to the lord of a city and his family as an oath of the crown, and served as one of his most trusted knights. briar grew close to the lord's daughter miel, who was unhappy with the way her father treated the people he was lord over, and tried to convince briar to help her. radicalized by miel and the people of the town and empowered by an unknown celestial patron, briar broke their oath against the lord and killed him. briar and miel are married with a child, and travel to fight other sources of tyranny
Taber is @ice-knife's oc: Taber my darling my blorbo. Taber Lamburn is a trans lady tiefing redemption paladin/fighter, devoted to Ilmater. She was sold by her own family into indentured servitude because they thought she was cursed. They were right, she is, but that doesn't make it fair. She got out herself and has since been trying to figure out who she is and put some good back into the world. She's 6'10" at the top of her head and fights with an axe. One time four separate people were telling her to take a damn break, including her weapon. She's cried in front of Ilmater himself at least three times. Her party uses her as a personal space heater/pre-warmed air mattress. She's recently gotten into her first ever disagreement with her childhood best friend, and she survived!
Cesi is @delilahthewizard's oc: My beloved Cesi... (oath of conquest): the most cos oc ever this lovely dame spent her childhood as a fire spinner before her village was razed and she was left with just her little troop of friends to survive. So she picked up a sword and learned how to use it. Not for revenge, justice, or any such virtuous ideals. But to slash her and her friends out of poverty and weakness.
She was told of a hot new job she could take on, instead of a mercenary, she could be a whole knight for the lord of Ravenloft himself. Wherein she and her friends spent over 5 years being his tools of conquest and torture. fear and misery. Her personal job? Getting him his food. Young women would be "escorted" to castle Ravenloft by her acting as a protector for the coach, and to get the poor girl properly scared before Strahd. Eventually, after years of this going by. She saw herself in each and every woman that she passed on. Each one exponentially weighed more on her soul than the last.
Eventually Leaving his service. Running away from an even more powerful offer and leaving her friends (living and deceased). She knew she needed to fight Strahd now. No other way about it. For what purpose she is still searching. Justice, redemption, vengeance, it doesn't matter. She will turn the very fear he made her instill in the people, onto him.

Terrine — Cheat Days (Bruit Direct)
Tumblr media
Cheat Days by TERRINE
Operating under the moniker Terrine, Claire Gapenne has assembled a meandering Rube Goldberg machine of slackerly weirdness in Cheat Days. DIY basement techno seems to be an occasional, distant reference point. Yet no genre or any other kind of coherent musical form receives much investment, and one gets the sense that’s kind of the point. Apropos of its name, Cheat Days feels… not particularly committed.
Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. “Bouscule,” for example, clatters like a Pole track played with kitchen implements until nightmarish, bit-crushed vocal samples drop. Similarly, on “Banabila Dub,” a resolute cowbell is quickly joined by blown-out machine sounds that would fit in on a Container record if they were in time with each other. Elsewhere, rhythms and atmospheres unfold with less regard for musical norms. Opener “Annette Thollot” begins the album with lackadaisical musique concrete, a synth stabbing listlessly as repitched vocals spiral out of control before a cut to party conversation, then buzzing insects implying… the outdoors?  “Grand Pas” goes from metal percussion — yes, probably more cowbell — to out-of-tune (nothing so intentional as “detuned”) piano, resolving into a muted, bleating murk.
Stateside, a release like Cheat Days wouldn’t be out of place on noise cassette labels that achieved critical nods in the 2000s, like Hanson Records or American Tapes. The album would stand out from much of that scene, though, by its low decibels and blasé attitude. Noise that aims for bombast or transcendence via sustained distortion has to sorta try, even in spite of itself. Whereas much aggressive American noise yells (somewhat disingenuously) “fuck everything,” Gapenne states plainly: “Meh. Here are some sounds.” The outcome is spare, oddly approachable – fun, even?
Nothing to prove.  No one to impress.  Just one person, an afternoon (not much longer than that, one hopes), and a few quasi-working tools.
