The Tales of Exandria: The Bright Queen is out in trade paperback from Dark Horse today! Here's a tiny collection of our articles to mark the release of the collected issues. The list itself is avoiding spoilers but, like all parts of the wiki, the articles themselves have some from the comic miniseries—so beware!

Leylas Kryn, the Bright Queen herself! Sovereign of the Kryn Dynasty. We've seen her throughout Campaign 2, but she's the central focus of this miniseries.

Quana Kryn, Dusk Captain of the Aurora Watch and Leylas' partner throughout their many lifetimes. We caught only a glimpse of her in Critical Role, and this comic lets us spend more time with her.

The Luxon, The Light, central deity of the Kryn Dynasty, power at the center of the Luxon beacons that Leylas and the Dynasty collect.

The wiki also has articles (with summaries) for each issue of the four-part series as part of our coverage of the miniseries: issue #1, for example.

currently reading: oh boy, I have not been reading for the last little while. I did pick up the first issue of Artie's Tales of Exandria on my birthday and I'm probably going to read that (finally) tomorrow?

currently watching: a couple of things, but mainly it's been Dungeon Meshi and Warrior with my dad! Dungeon Meshi is obviously very up my alley and I know spoilers for what's up next and I am SO excited for things to get weird. Warrior (which is on Netflix) was initially just something we threw on because we couldn't find something else, but me and my dad have been uh, obsessed. Western set 1870's in San Francisco that centers on the conflict between Chinese immigrants and the Irish working class, the conflicts between the gangs within Chinatown, so much political intrigue on all sides, everyone is messy and complicated, it's an excellent time. Also, literally in the midst of a TLOVM rewatch with the soup server rn XD

currently obsessed with: as clear by the above, Warrior has a pretty tight hold on my brain right now XD also been vibing with my Shadowgast Candela Obscura AU. Gotten back into playing Stardew Valley in anticipation of the update. Always obsessed with CR.

The Lovers’ Lie (original song) > There is an old folk song that is sung in Exandria.  It goes by a lot of titles–In Marquet it’s commonly known as The Liar’s Love, while natives of Xhorhas would know it as The Fey Groom, and the elves of Syngorn’s version has a title that translates to “The Sacrifice of Truth for Love.” This is one bard’s rendition of the song in Common, as accompanied by ukulele.

verbal and somatic (AO3) > In which Jester has a creative idea for how to use the Polymorph spell, and with a truly heroic effort (and the benefit of War Caster), Caleb succeeds on a series of concentration checks with increasingly high DC. (AKA: Widojest body swap sexy times.) (Post-campaign, established relationship AU.)

a soft place to land (AO3) > A few years after their travels with the Mighty Nein, Caleb and Jester reunite for the summer and kinda sorta fall in love all over again. (Post-campaign, as the summary suggests, but more or less canon-compliant)

a dream of flight (AO3) > My first Loquaerryn fic, about their first dance (and what comes after). Laerryn is used to taking the lead, but when she meets Loquatius Seelie, he challenges everything she knows about following.

rainy days and twisting braids > Yasha braids Beau’s hair, and softness follows. For Beauyasha Week 2022 Day 2: Hair. (Takes place post-campaign.)

like it’s the last time > A Widojest epilogue “missing scene,” i.e. the final conversation Caleb and Jester never got in canon. It’s the night before Fjord and Jester leave Nicodranas, and the Nein are throwing a party. Everything should be great. Except Caleb’s been distant lately, and Jester wants to know why. (Takes place during the Campaign 2 finale, roughly.)

disguise selves > An AU where Caleb and Jester are (human) roommates, preparing for a Halloween costume party over Zoom. Jester being Jester, she insists on a photo shoot in costume. Everything goes better than expected. (no spoilers)

the nature of possibility > Two things possessed me to write this: the concept of including some actual thermodynamics in a fic about dunamancy, and the idea of hand contact during a spellcraft lesson. What ensued was nearly a thousand words of Shadowgast. (Takes place sometime post-C2E77)

an unnatural tide > Caleb doesn't normally forget things. But Rumblecusp isn't a normal island. What did he forget that last morning? Here's my best guess. (Spoilers for C2E105)

Like, every time The Tales of Exandria shows the beacons together...

...I say to myself, "No wonder Essek walked off with TWO of them." What's the point of taking only one if they're all in arm's reach of each other like that? Like, guys, this isn't very secure. This isn't a criticism—I absolutely believe the Dynasty would do this. They would 100% keep the beacons like this, I have no doubts.

Very excited to read the next three Bright Queen comics to see if I get answers to what the fuck is going on here but for now I'm just imagining Essek, sitting in disguise at some Nicodranas cafe, reading about this all in some tabloid like, "Are you fucking kidding me."
