Opening Bell: October 24th, 2023

I've always felt the primary job of the Opening Bell is to provide valuable knowledge to RTARL readers, so that they may move throughout their lives without ever finding themselves caught flat-footed whenever conversations about the Big Issues of the day arise.

It's in that spirit that I've devoted today's edition of the OB to tackling (HAH!) perhaps the biggest issue of them all: Just how in the heck DOES Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce get so wide-dammit-open all the time???

Since I lack the Xs and Os knowhow to really get down into the nitty-gritty of NFL play design, I've enlisted the help of Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner to break it down in an easy to digest manner. Take it away, Kurt!

The long-and-short of it is: Kelce has enough trust and stature on the team to break-off or otherwise alter his routes in whatever way he sees fit if he thinks doing so will lead to a big play. As shown in the video, defenses frequently have the plays as designed guarded perfectly, but because Kelce is so quick to recognize this and change things on the fly, defenders find themselves forced to make split-second freelance decisions of their own in response, which most often leaves them in no position to stop him. The TE screen he decides to run to the complete opposite side of the field as intended at around the 8:56 mark is a particularly hilarious example of this.

It should also be noted that things wouldn't look quite as easy if Kelce didn't have the benefit of playing with Patrick Mahomes as his QB. Mahomes is an absolute freak and due to practice reps, otherworldly arm-talent, and whatever mind-meld he and Kelce have, Mahomes is able to recognize what Kelce is doing the nanosecond it happens, and rifle the ball to him accordingly.

I feel like what people don't understand when they say that Taylor "moved on quickly" from Joe is that women are often emotionally done LONG before a relationship officially ends. Because we have worried and cried for endless nights alone and gone back and forth with our friends and pleaded and begged and bent and broken a million times over, trying to make it work. So by the time we're done? Honey, we've BEEN done. Case in point; "You're losing me" being written two years prior to the official break up. Taylor was emotionally done for a long time before Tavis Kelce ever entered her life.

Some Harry fans have really taken to criticizing everything about Taylor Swift and comparing her to Harry. I think it's because the Eras tour is so successful compared to Harry's last tour, and they're jealous. They say she needs to read and go to museums like Harry. It's so goddamn funny, because like her or not, she is a thousand times more intelligent than Harry. She has a personality and wit and can actually open her mouth to speak and sound funny and smart. Harry's reading and little museum trips are not helping him, because he still sounds dumb as fuck when he tries to do an interview. And Taylor can actually write songs and wrote an entire album by herself. Harry cannot. Just one look or listen at his basic-ass lyrics tells anyone that he needs help and needs some writing classes. Taylor may not walk outside holding books in her hand with the front cover facing outward, so paps can take pics so the public can see what she is reading and talk about it, like Harry has in the past. But she does read. Harry Styles can read a zillion books, but he's still not smarter, or more well spoken, or more talented than Taylor. Even if Taylor never reads books, she's still more naturally talented and smarter than Harry. She's been writing songs since she was a kid.

Harries criticize Taylor for having a boyfriend who loves her and supports her, spends time with her, is proud of her, and actually claims her, when Harry can't keep a steady relationship to save his life. Yes, Taylor has had a lot of relationships, but she has had long-term ones, which Harry has yet to have. I believe his relationships with Olivia and Camille ended far sooner than the public thinks they did. Taylor and Travis' relationship has lasted longer than Harry and Taylor R's, even though Taylor and Tavis have had much more public scrutiny and obstacles and have spent a lot of time apart because of work. Harry and Taylor Russell had no obstacles, except Harry's lack of ability to be a good boyfriend, and lack of ability to put anyone above himself. And they call Travis dumb and meathead. But how is Harry Styles any smarter than Travis Kelce? I'm not seeing any evidence of that at all.

Harries call Taylor "Taylentless," insinuating she's talentless, when she is a good writer and plays multiple instruments. Excuse me Harry stans, but where the fuck is Harry's talent? He's a complete product of his team, with writing, music, fashion, and everything else (and even his team isn't that good, lol, cause Harry isn't good. I'm thinking he needs a much better team). Take away Taylor's team, and she can still write music all on her own. BTW, Harry's team needs to buy him a personality, because he doesn't have one.

It's just funny that they criticize Taylor for things she can do a fuck of a lot better than Harry. I know this whole post is going off subject in way, because it's talking about Taylor Swift, but I do hope you post it. I just think it's crazy that Harries try to say Taylor has no talent and make fun of her personal life when she is more successful than Harry in every way, relationships, sales, talent, respect from her peers, etc. And she looks like she showers every day and grooms herself, which is more than I can say for Mr. Styles. Even Taylor's worst songs are better-written than Harry's best songs. Harries have too high an opinion of Harry when it's not warranted. They can love him all they want, but to pretend that he's some kind of uber talented, intelligent, multi-faceted fashion icon whose music is going to stand the test of time? Harry's fans need a reality check. I think deep down they know Harry ain't shit, which is why they lash out at Taylor.

Thanks! Ok it is 8 weeks in FL. The article said: Tavis Kelce is expected back in Boca Raton this offseason for an eight-week workout stint with his longtime training guru, Andrew Spruill “According to him (Travis), he’s coming back,’’ Spruill said.

Spruill also said in the article that he’ll see Taylor again next month! Probably at a playoff game if they make it? Hopefully Taylor can visit Travis while he’s in FL. Side note: I dislike the negativity lately around Travis’ performance. I know he’s not used to people doubting his abilities ok the field, but he’s stills doing pretty good this year.
