Owlheart, Falconwing, Ivyheart, Starlingstep, Tawnyleap

I have had my characters interact with Owlheart and Falconwing, so I have more of an opinion on them than the others. My characters have more of a relationship with those two, so I do have more of a preference for them. I have spoken to Ivyheart once, and I did like them a bit, but I do not have as much of an opinion on her as the other two. I have not barely/not spoken to Tawnyleap and Starlingstep, so I cant really place them anywhere but at the bottom of the list.

This has been such an exciting round of applications and the Mods were absolutely agonizing over every application that came in! The final decisions were so difficult to make, but we want every single person who didn’t get accepted this round to keep a close eye on the blog in the coming months! We’ve already got plans brewing for the next round of applications following some coming events in the roleplay...

what does eveningstorm think of starlingstep? what does leopardpaw think of nightpaw? (:

evening about starling:

maybe it’s her need to stick her nose where it doesn’t belong, if she thinks she can make things better, but there’s something about starlingstep that makes eveningstorm want to continue to reach out to her. she’s so withdrawn and grumpy — and while all three of those sisters are a little withdrawn to an extent, starlingstep’s certainly the Most — it’s a little like what made her befriend lonely, grumpy owlheart. she feels like she’s gotten some glimpses through the cracks in starlingstep’s wall already, and firmly thinks starlingstep isn’t as big and bad as a cat as she likes to present to the world. she’s seen her during softer moments during her nursery visits, and still thinks her dedication to visiting tawnyleap nearly every day was very charming and is a testament to just what kind of cat starling is underneath her shell. eveningstorm thinks she needs a friend, and she’s happy to be one! it’s both sweet and a little sad to watch starlingstep react to tiny acts of kindness that eveningstorm would do for any of her friends (or even acquaintances), which only cements her want to do more of those for her. she knows some of their past from her friendship with ivyheart, but she very much wants to continue to reach out to starlingstep and show her she isn’t alone with just her kin in jaggedclan.

nightpaw stresses leopardpaw out, but she loves her big cousin anyway. they’re very much opposites, where nightpaw is brash and impulsive leopardpaw is cautious and logical, but that’s what makes them get along so well! they balance each other out, and nightpaw does well at getting leopardpaw to do or say things out of her (very limited) comfort zone even without realizing it. leopard is at ease with night, and doesn’t have to worry as much about choosing her words to seem the most perfect and polite when it’s just them hanging out together. despite thinking she’s awfully foolish and far too friendly with strangers sometimes, leopardpaw looks up to nightpaw and has since she was a kit. nightpaw is brave and was a sort of leader for their nursery gang without trying to be, and sometimes leopardpaw wishes she has her sort of confidence, even if she wants to physically hold her big mouth shut sometimes. when she’s unsure about things, night is one of the cats she’ll look to or think of to gauge her own reaction off of.

Title: Flash Floods

Summary: When horrible flooding hits the old forest territories, Adderstar of RiverClan turns his back on the other Clans, refusing to let Clan secrets slip out. What comes next is what happens when you treat three Half-Clan apprentices like crap, then expect them to back your cruel decisions.

Excerpt:

"Toadkit, come on!" Leafkit pleaded, bracing his big paws on the side of the tree. Unlike his brother, Leafkit was short and scrawny, only slightly taller than Nightkit. His tail was small and thin, like a rat. His feet betrayed him, though, showing he would someday grow into a big, powerful cat; just like their father. "You know I hate to climb!"

At four moons old, Toadkit had grown to be of decent size, with a fluffy, versatile pelt. The tabby laughed as he idly dangled one of his back paws in the air. "Come get me!"

"I wouldn't ask you to swim, would I?" he shot back. Toadkit, for all his bragging, was shaping up to be quite the drypaw. "Get down here before-"

"Too late." Out of the nearby shrubbery came the brown form of Mousepaw, scowling up a storm. "How did you two manage to get out of camp again?"

"We walked past Redheart and Doveshade," Leafkit meowed, shrugging.

Toadkit laid his head on his paws, examining Mousepaw. He knew he should be more respectful to the molly- it was her badgering that eventually got Nightkit treated for his leg, which had become infected after the deputy, Sagefall, and bitten into it. They couldn't save the appendage, but she'd saved his brother's life, at the cost of her warrior name. "Yeah, Mousepaw. You know nobody but you and Stagstep care."

Have I mentioned how much of a jerk Adderstar is recently? Because he is lol.

if you had to give each clan a completely new leader and deputy, and you could pick anyone, who would you pick?

CREEKCLAN

Leader: Sparrowheart

Deputy: Goosewing

hm, I don't know if a past deputy counts, but... I really think Sparrowheart would grow well into a leadership position, especially now that he's more secure in himself! I'd also love to see Hollyfur in a leader position as well... and Goosewing is an experienced, responsible warrior! I think she'd fit the role really well, and mesh with Sparrowheart perfectly! I also think (maybe selfishly) that Robinclaw would be a great deputy, but not necessarily under Sparrowheart. so Sparrowheart and Goosewing for my first choice, but an alternative route could be Hollyfur and Goosewing or Robinclaw! (Brightpaw might also be a good deputy in the future...)

NETTLECLAN

Leader: Berryclaw

Deputy: Loonwind

admittedly, I'm not a NettleClan expert! this might sound like a wild card pairing to anyone who knows them better, but for some reason I think that Berryclaw's youth and passion would go really well in stride with Loonwind's more experienced and compassionate personality. Berryclaw's extremely mature and just kind of pops out as a natural leader to me? I think she's determined and is just fiery enough that she wouldn't cause unnecessary strife, but wouldn't back down from a threat that challenges her clan. I think it'd balance well with (at least from what I've seen during the journey!) Loonwind's grounded-ness and all of his experiences travelling and meeting new cats and his past. if I had to put down another choice... an older cat like Halfstream (or Loonwind again) and Wrenclaw or Skywhisker as deputy? I find a lot of younger cats who would do well as deputies but not many older cats to balance them out as leaders,,

JAGGEDCLAN

Leader: Stonefang

Deputy: Tawnyleap (Mintwhisker)

honestly this is pretty self-explanatory. Stonefang has a reputation that precedes her on many different fronts, whether it be in maturity or her kindness or the friends she makes. both Tawnyleap and Mintwhisker are cats that I feel are too young/inexperienced for a leader role right now, but could thrive under Stonefang, and maybe in the future rise up after her? Owlheart would also be a great choice for deputy!

FOGCLAN

Leader: Foxflame

Deputy: Whitebounce

this... might also seem like a wild pairing, but I think it works really well. Foxflame is a cat that just has a good heart, and they're honestly one of my favorite FogClan cats - I think their ability to empathize with other cats is unprecedented as of now, and I think Whitebounce's ambition and want for greatness would balance them out really well! she's proven herself to be more than capable under direction, but I'd love to see her step up and take the reins for herself as a leader rather than a follower! Bramblefang could also work as a deputy, though I worry about his need to tuck his emotions away in a position of power (no one should lead with only their head, or not listen to their heart!), but I think he's making progress and could eventually fit that role. just for a little craziness, far in the future and to mix things up, a really interesting dynamic might be Whitebounce as leader and Fang as her deputy?

THE TRIBE

I hate to say it, but right now I think the tribe is too inactive for me to really choose the next leaders for each season. there's only a handful of active characters, and unless I wanted to sort each of them into leader roles without them having any sort of competition or secondary choices, I wouldn't be able to do it. of what I've seen, I think Spark Feather and Red Moon would do well as leaders, but other than that, I can't make much of a decision!

Despite Reedclaw’s stance on having friends in other Clans, Tawnyleap is pretty close to being considered one. (To be fair, cats are technically already his friend before he admits to himself they are!) Back when he was a kit in JaggedClan’s camp, Tawnykit was the one he got along with for the most part, and it continued into their apprenticeships, too.

But as Reedclaw grew, his and his family’s issues began to take the spotlight, and they didn’t see each other as much. He became very hostile to others and grew defensive, and it wasn’t until the recent journey, after he’d started to mellow down, that they were able to talk again.

Tawnyleap is one of the few non-CreekClan cats Reedclaw really respects. He doesn’t know her very well, but she’s nice enough company. She doesn’t know all the awful things he’s done, so she isn’t afraid to approach him and joke with him, which makes him feel a bit more... normal? She makes him feel like he can let his guard down and enjoy spending time with someone for once.

Ms Butterscotch for the ideal mate thing?

butterscotch deserves all the good things in life. she’d do really well, i imagine, with having a mate who could provide some solidarity and stability for her, and since miss tawnyleap is a recent widow, well...i think that she and butterscotch would be quite the sweet pair. they both had a bond with ivyheart and went through the mourning process at each other’s sides, and so far they’ve both proven to be very supportive of each other. i think they both have a tendency to worry and let their minds wander, butterscotch more so, and so there would already be a level of understanding between them. butterscotch as a former kittypet struggles too with actually committing herself to jaggedclan, i think, and i believe tawnyleap could really give her a reason to want to stick around.

If you were to completely redesign your characters, what changes would you make? Would any be drastically different?

eveningstorm - she’d probably stay pretty much the same! ive made tweaks to her design here and there over the years from her very first ref, so i’m pretty content with how she looks right now. if i had to make some kind of change to her, she’d probably have more solid white markings!

grousepelt - she kinda has gone through a whole redesign since i got her. she was a smoke tortie? i think? when i first adopted her, and ive tinkered with her design like... 3 or 4 times since then. she’s always one i’m never Quite happy with but again i’m pretty satisfied with how she currently looks! i can’t imagine her as anything else or without her split ginger face.

leopardkit - i would probably make her tabby markings more marbled(??) tabby looking, to match tawnyleap again, since she was originally designed as more of a momma look-alike when tawnys design was more spotted.

carpfang - if i had designed her off the bat she would’ve looked completely different than her design (and wouldn’t be carp-), but i adopted her with that already in place. i wasn’t a huge fan of it at first tbh but it’s grown on me a lot and i think it fits her! but if she got changed up, she’d have been a calico or a tortie most likely. she’d hate the resemblance it gave her, but i love them (: still more black than her sisters but def some ginger and white... tbh she’d probably be mostly black with little flecky spots of orange through her pelt, white underbelly, white little toes?

riverpaw - hmm. i probably would have made him a dilute calico, with spotted tabby. still more silvery than ginger but a few little spots around his white belly.... it’d be like sand on the edges of silver water yknow

dandelionpaw - i would make her look more like kinktail!! i can’t imagine her without her splotchy markings and pretty high white, but instead of a calico she’d be a grey tabby under all that.

miette - was made to cater to my dilute calico gene, so she wouldn’t change much. but maybe more grey on her and less white...... which like. hm.

002 tawnyleap (it’s xion!)

002 | give me a character and i will tell you...

how i feel about this character: i have always been a huge tawnyleap fan. she’s always had such an interesting personality and place in jaggedclan without ever feeling like she’s trying too hard to be unique or out there. there’s no real gimmick to her, she’s just genuinely special. the care she has for other cats and the passion that shines through her relationships with them is what really endears me towards her. she so clearly cares for ivyheart, starlingstep, for her kits and for all the cats she is involved with, even if she doesn’t always know how to best handle those dynamics when they become a bit cloudy or complicated. overall i just really adore tawnyleap and love seeing her each and every time she pops up in the roleplay!

all the characters i ship romantically with them: shadepelt, absolutely...they have a simple but sweet dynamic, one you can’t help but appreciate. 

my non-romantic OTP for this character: tawnyleap and either of her sisters! i have an obvious bias for tawnyleap and starlingstep, but seeing tawnyleap’s recent interaction with ivyheart really made me emotional. it’s another instance of tawnyleap just trying her best by caring for her loved ones with all the love in her heart, and the way she and ivyheart were able to come together was super duper sweet.

my unpopular opinion about this character: it’s not that i think tawnyleap shouldn't have been a mother, it’s just...maybe a little strange that she did settle down so easily? she’s always been a bit of an oddball, and it could have been cool to see her have reservations about following a traditional path even though i am totally a fan of her + shadepelt + their family.

one thing i wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: i’d love to see a sort of action mom tawnyleap moment with her babies...she’s not very much of a badass fighter typically, but it’d be neat to see her kick some ass for the sake of her kits, maybe surprise them with just how strong she can be when it comes to protecting her family.

my otp: tawnyleap / shadepelt!

my cross-clan ship: this is gonna be an absolute wildcard (most cross-clan ships will be), but i think in terms of pairing tawnyleap up with one of the creekclan cats she knew as a kit...tawnyleap and dewshine could’ve been interesting. they’re both sort of weirdos in their own right, but very much attached to their family, and also total sweethearts.

a headcanon: tawnyleap almost considered naming one of her kits sweetkit after sweetwind. it was a fleeting thought, and she ended up feeling more disgusted by her runaway mother than anything else in the end, but for a moment she wondered if she could “fix” that part of her past by associating the name with something positive.

What does Starlingstep think of Tawnyleap? (:

to starlingstep, tawnyleap is essentially the center of her world. she’s the one family member who stayed, who hasn’t disappointed her, who hasn’t turned tail and abandoned her and left behind chaos in her wake. starlingstep hasn’t always been on the best terms with tawnyleap (she remembers how at odds they used to be as kits, bickering near constantly), but even if her sister doesn’t always make choices starlingstep would make for her, she’s still there for her, still at her side. sweetwind left them, batstar left them, and then ivyheart left them, too, in starlingstep’s mind. tawnyleap and her are the only two remaining of their family who haven’t fled for better things, better lives, and for that starlingstep owes her everything she could possibly give. she’s beyond dedicated to her sister, loyal to a fault, and values tawnyleap over just about anyone else in their clan.

beyond her blind loyalty, starlingstep is truthfully afraid that one day tawnyleap will leave her, too, and has had moments where this fear has almost seemed to be a reality...when she became mates with shadepelt, starlingstep was sure she was moving on, that she’d leave her behind, but still tawnyleap remained close to her, and that’s part of the reason starlingstep is so fond of her sister’s kits, too. she sees them as an extension of tawnyleap, in need of her protection, and would give just about anything for their sake in the same way she would for her sister’s.

when i started shipping it

i can’t remember exact details, but i vaguely recall a baby shadepelt thinking of or calling tawnyleap pretty, and...really, that was all i needed. it was too sweet to resist.

my thoughts

i adore tawnyleap and shadepelt together so much...seeing them become friends back in their apprentice days was undeniably sweet. they were both sort of odd in their own ways, shadepelt a kittypet turned warrior and tawnyleap, well...she was her awkward goblin self dealing with an array of family issues. they really just pair together well, to me, and it’s obvious to see how much shadepelt cares for tawnyleap and how much tawnyleap in turn adores him. they’re happy together and i love it.

what makes me happy about them

the fact that they’ve started their own little family is SO sweet and precious...they’re both a bit young, yes, but i genuinely think that they’re ready and capable of handling kits. they both want to have them, and i think that desire will help make them good parents even though they’re a bit more inexperienced than older clanmates would be. seeing the family portrait marlee drew of tawnyleap having her own kits now just...really got to me, okay?? okay??? i remember when she was just a BABY...

what makes me sad about them

honestly, nothing? like, a part of what makes me love tawnyshade so much is that they aren’t a couple ridden with angst and drama. they’re simple, they’re sweet, they genuinely love each other, and though they can certainly have problems to work through, they’ve never been at odds with each other or done much to make me sad about them / their relationship.

who i’d be comfortable with them ending up with

i don’t particularly ship either of them with any other cats, but some wildcard pairings...shadepelt and mintwhisker could’ve been cute, i think, with shadepelt being all flustered when mintwhisker slapped down all his charm. as for tawnyleap...it’s really hard for me to picture her with anyone other than shadepelt, honestly. i feel like a lot of other cats wouldn’t be able to understand her in the way that he does. 

who is the big spoon / little spoon

tawnyleap is absolutely the big spoon. she takes her dumb lil kittypet husband and wraps him all up in her insanely long legs when they cuddle up together.

what is their favorite activity

snuggling...shadepelt loves how warm and comfortable it makes him feel, and for tawnyleap, it’s a reminder that there’s someone out there who genuinely loves her, who wants to be at her side, whose desires are as simple as just cuddling up with her and being happy.
