Ok Ok since you listen to Epic the Musical hear me out-

What if Epic is a thing in Yuu's world? Like she's a huge fan and decided for a movie night she first introduces all the boys to it and eventually shows it to everyone at the House of Mouse,

There will be gasps, There will be tears shed, etc.

Everyone in the Hercules cast especially will be intrigued by seeing their own selves in a different light. But once they get to the thunder saga (and also gods games), Zeus is sweating bullets meanwhile hades is laughing his butt off from his brother's face,

But at the same time poor Hercules is like "....Dad???" as Meg and Yuu comfort him.

...also for the Vengeance saga everyone (NRC and HoM) especially the couples, Will def cheer after Odysseus says next to my wife.

Okay so first of all, if you want to read a fic where NRC reacts to Epic I highly recommend this because it is truly top tier:

I mean, for the past month I was thinking of a twst reacts to Epic fic (where Yuu acted in EPIC back in her world and the school/RSA reacted to it through some type of magic - it was kind of set in this universe where Yuu was a theatre actress before entering twst. I mentioned once that I had a theatre!Yuu that is friends with RSA and once played Christine Daaé back home. This is that AU) and then I just stumbled across this two days ago and my mind was literally blown! The saying that that there are no original experiences is really true!

Basically Yuu (who's female in this fic) is doing some extra credit work so she asks her friends to act in one of her favourite musicals and NRC reacts to this. Ace plays Ody and Deuce is Telemachus and Yuu plays practically every female character (I'm not going to spoil who plays the other characters). Also this has Aceyuu which is practically my OTP.

I'm also a huge fan of the Disney Princess React series where the Disney Princess, Princes and practically all the good characters from before their movies react to their future so I have been thinking of a Disney characters + Epic cast reacts to Epic fic.

Okay so according to Google, Hercules comes before the Odyssey so none of the Hercules cast would know anything about the Trojan War or Odysseus which would make this even cooler!

I've never watched the Hercules tv show except for that one crossover it did with Aladdin so I don't really know how the gods/goddesses are portrayed but I do know that the movie took a lot of ... creative liberty to say the least.

But can you imagine the cast of The Little Mermaid/Octavinelle reacting to Suffering/Different Beasts where the sirens come to kill the crew only to get slaughtered. Also, I have a feeling that Triton would be leaving his trident back home in the palace for the next few weeks.

But imagine every sailors' (e.g. Eric, the pirates, etc) reaction to Ruthlessness and the absolute carnage that follows. They'd be gripping onto the tables with white knuckles.

Hades would be having the time of his life (except for the parts where Yuu cheers for the other gods: read Hermes/Athena), especially during the Underworld saga. Like everyone would be looking at river styx in horror and he'd just be like 'ah home :)'. I bet he'd enjoy God Games as well. He'd definitely be munching on popcorn during Ody's and Athena's argument in My Goodbye.

The muses would be watching everything like WRITE THAT DOWN!

hoooly shit THE ITHACA SAGA!!!

The Challenge was INCREDIBLE. Penelope vocals went crazy I was in awe. It has cemented itself as my favourite song in the musical.

Hold them down TERRIFIED me but also the vocals killed. And ODYSSEUS'S ENTRANCE WAS INCREDIBLE HOLY SHIT. THE RED EYES. OH MY GOODNESS. And Antinuous singing that whole song and then immediately fucking dying was lowkey hysterical

Also just generally loved the calls to Man of the House throughout the first few songs, and the song Odysseus as well!

Which. Oh my God. THAT SONG. IT WAS AMAZING.

He's aiming for the torches!!!!! And scylla aimed for the torches! And they are the same!!!

EURYMACHUS VOCALS? ALSO HIM SINGING THE WORDS OPEN ARMS AND THEN ODYSSEUS IMMEDIATELY KILLING HIM ANYWAY. LIKE OMG

Telemachus entrance also absolutely ATE. Oh I love him. He's so cute and his fighting has improved so much. THE DISNEY PRINCESS.

So I was listening to "Hold Them Down" again today in my semi-regular full-Epic-The-Musical-re-listen and I think I've figured out why I personally love it so much despite its implicit horror:

Not only is it an absolute banger of a song (Ayron Alexander you magnificently talented bastard), but it's a classical villain song done in a way that I personally haven't seen since "Hellfire" from Hunchback of Notre Dame.

To elaborate: A lot of villain songs, especially in classic Disney (as opposed to modern/recent Disney, wherein the "villain" songs are very very different in tone) are much more "I am" songs, contrasted with the "I want" songs of our protagonists/princesses. If we look at the message of a few classic villain songs: Gaston's song is "I am awesome". Scar's song is "I am a scheming mastermind". Ursula's song is "I am a powerful sea-witch". The "I want" is implicit in these songs (I want the girl, I want the throne of Pride Rock, I want control of the ocean), but it is not explicit or the main focus in the manner of the protagonist/princess songs (in the corresponding movie songs: "I want adventure in the great wide somewhere", "I just can't wait to be king", "Wish I could be part of your world", etc).

(AS A TANGENT: this is why one of my personal hot takes is that "The Plagues" from Prince of Egypt is in fact a villain song sung by YHWH/The LORD. Not only is this a song sung by the actual biggest threat of the narrative, but it is solely a declaration of fact and existence as opposed to a statement of goals - "I sent the scourge, I sent the sword, thus saith the Lord". There is no "I want", there is no subtle goal or desire, there is just an implacable divine force that must be acknowledged and submitted to and dealt with. WHOOF.)

But "Hellfire"? That is an "I want" song sung by the villain. There is no divine or supernatural power here; indeed, the lyrics imply both here and in the rest of the movie that God is not only not present, but is actively opposing Frollo and supporting Quasimodo and Notre Dame as a sacred location. The entire song is Frollo's desire writ large, made manifest, his entire driving purpose. It is "I wish to own this woman, the desire for her torments me, and if I can't have her - literally posses her - I would rather see her dead than independent and free, let alone with another man."

In the same way, we've had a taste of Antinous' ruthlessness (pun entirely intended) in "Little Wolf", but his true villainy comes out in "Hold Them Down". This is a song where there is zero justification, zero tragic backstory, zero divine or magical influence. This is entirely Antinous' desire explicitly called out. He wants the throne, which means he wants Telemachus off the roster and Penelope either subservient or entirely out of the picture. This entire song is nothing but his lust for power, violence, and dominance, and it absolutely does not pull any punches.

There are no divine interventions or appearances here. There are no magical or supernatural powers wielded by the singer. There is nothing more than the violence and depravity of a mortal man. A single mortal man, supported by other mortal men, who wants power and control at any cost, and is willing to murder and rape and perform any other violent and depraved act to achieve his goals. And that concept is genuinely the most terrifying villain song possible.

THUNDER SAGA

- Gosh, 'Suffering' is maybe probably most definitely my second fav song (after 'Thunder Bringer' ofc) in this saga. It's just so GOOD UGHH!!! I'm utterly OBSESSED with whoever voices Penelope/Siren Penelope cause they just sound ETHEREAL. Also the amount of memes with the "You know I'm too shy" is astounding. Def my fav part of the song.

- I hc that Ody, in 'Different Beast', when he said "You are no wife of mine!" that he pulled an "erm, actually-" and basically: "Nah cuz you got a few details ab my wife wrong, homie. You see, her ponytail's tips actually reach 3.5 cm lower than that, plus you got the shade of her eye color wrong. And gods she'd never wear that tunic without matching earrings!" Homie's obsessed lmao.

- Oh. My. God. KJ. KJ! THE ABSOLUTE QUEEN GAHH!!! The fucking growl Scylla had on "Give up your honor and wraith!" Made me literally almost fall over. I had a ton of fun just dancing to KJ's vocals. My GOD that's beautiful💯💯

- Tell me y'all can hear the absolute desperation in Eury's voice at the start😭 bro does NOT wanna believe his home bro Ody just gave up six men's lives like that. Also not Jay bringing back the "This is the home of the wind god" bullshit like pls I cried enough at 'Monster'😭😭 And not Eury turning Ody's words around by saying "I'M JUST A MAN!" then stabbing a cow, like HOMIE. WHY.

- Here comes Zeus the party crasher everyone! Yippee! But no, seriously, I've had 'Thunder Bringer' stuck in my head for a while cuz my boy Luke Holt's vocals be giving me shivers. Imma cry cause the absolute pain and crack in Ody's voice when he says "I know..." like,, 😭😭 Also the animatics where the crew just attacks Ody and the dude just accepts his fate are CRIMINAL. Ain't nobody asking me to cry today bro🙏🙏

WISDOM SAGA

- Gotta be my fav saga yet. The "Watchu gonna do about it, champ?" line was delivered PERFECTLY🙌🙌 Ayron is the absolute Top G. Also Miguel's voice for Telemachus is just UGHH SO GOOD!!! Also Tele be like: "STAY BEHIND ME MOM I'LL PROTECT YOU!!🤺🤺🤺"

- Let's fucking go Athena is back on track, baby! Literally LOVE both hers and Antinuos' vocals. They were ON. TOP. I couldn't help but giggle at Tele's "Woah,, that is so sick!!" Like he's my baby boy I love him smmmm!!!

- I ain't got no shit on Athena no more. Home girl's just guilty frfr. "You're a good kid." "Thanks!" AHHHH THEM>>> Anyway, great song. I love Athena now. I don't hold no grudge against her anymore, no siree. She my homie now💪💪

- WANGUI. THE LEGEND FRFR. They could never make me like Calypso but Barbara served. I listened to 'Love In Paradise' on my headphones and did not expect to hear Polites' voice in my left ear and Eury's in my right😭😭 The time-dive was LEGENDARY (haha.) and Ody's screams then him just yelling "ATHENA!!" cause he doesn't have anyone else to call for help was heartbreaking 💔

- Ahhh the fact that Jorge got his dad to voice Hephaestus is so cute <33 And Mr. PAM-PAM was right. Luke Holt's BEASTMODE ZEUS IS PHENOMENAL. I adored the transition between 'Warrior Of The Mind' and 'Legenday' after Zeus supposedly struck Athena down, which were – by the looks of the animatic shown in the livestream – the memories that got the goddess determined to stand back up💪💪 The way Ares' voice almost broke when he asked "Is she dead..?" broke me like😭😭 And whoever voices Hera is an absolute legend how the fuck is your voice that HEAVENLY😳

Also pls let the 'Silly Saga' be a thing, I had all the vids from Jorge's Disney Princess Era plus the Jimmy Neutron specials stuck inside my head non-stop for daysss🙏

Ooh and if we're lucky (and Jorge wants to ofc) maybe we'll get an album with cut songs! That would be amazing!! No pressure for the team tho, whatever they choose will be respected by everyone!

Also guys dw Athena's not dead, goddesses can't die you silly geese🙃 She's just injured n I'm absolutely sure we'll hear more of her in the upcoming Sagas! ^^

If you think hard about it, Telemachus' bit in the Odyssey is essentially Moana.

Kinda.

Sorta.

If you squint.

Okay there's some major differences, but the similarities ARE there:

- The protagonist wants to leave their island but can't because of some responsibility/worry of theirs (for Telemachus I think he clearly states he doesn't want to leave Penelope alone with the suitors)

- Some inciting incident happen and they both say "fuck it" and leave (Athena tells him to move his ass and leave)

- They both have a deity that guides and protects them (Athena, obviously. In Moana's case I consider the Ocean a deity because yes)

- The deity that watches over them leads them to some guy who they need to complete their journey

And yeah then the similarities kinda end and Telemachus goes full homicidal. So yeah.

Still I fully believe that Telemachus is the Greek Mythology equivalent of a Disney Princess and nothing will ever change my mind.

Because I am absolutely right.
