We Met in Tampa PT 5
A/N: the Elvis movie plot but Y/N version!!
pairing: austin!elvis x reader
Warning: fluff, america burning to the ground, the colonel being an asshole ONCE AGAIN
Tumblr media
Y/N POV
When Elvis came back from the Army he got in a movie and he wanted to get married so I invited my family to come up to Las Vegas, we had a hell of a time! Our wedding was perfect! I never seen my parents so happy for me in my life, they wanted my wedding day to be the best day that they can witness! Several months later, our beautiful daughter, Evelyn Presley came in to the world! My family would come up to Memphis to visit her and they would stay at Graceland when Elvis would do a movie.
Elvis got a lot of movie roles and he wanted me to go to the sets but I kinda got scared to because maybe the producers didn’t want me there because I’m too ‘distracting’ to Elvis.
His friends also known as, Memphis Mafia, they’re really nice but we would kinda get along sometimes. They always do dumb things when they would be at Graceland or at a movie set.
‘Dr. Martin Luther King jr., the apostle of non-violence in the Civil Rights movement, has been shot to death in Memphis, Tennessee.’
I already know that Elvis is crushed by this, I am as well, we watched his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech and it was inspiring, we support the Civil Rights Movement.
I hold Evelyn in my arms while Vernon is saying, “With the sale of the ranch and the horses, that’s gonna cover the payroll, but as for the security at graceland…” I look at Evelyn, looking sleepy as ever.
I listen to the radio hearing MLK news, Elvis walks up with Evelyn, I turn the volume up and I get closer to the both of them and says, “Memphis is burning.”
Elvis hands me Eve and I rock her gently and see John F. Kennedy talking about MLK. Elvis walks off to talk to the Colonel and I set Evelyn down in her little crib and walk up to Elvis and wrapped my left arm around him.
“We’ve seen “Elvis the Rebel, we’ve seen “Elvis the Movie Star.”
Now we will see “Elvis the Family Entertainer.” I look at him then hear Jerry say, “And appliance salesman?” Elvis, the Colonel, and I look at Jerry and Elvis says, “What did you say? Listen, Jerry, I don’t need you to question me about how I support my family and every goddamn person here you understand stand me?” I look at Elvis walking away hearing, “Laugh it up, assholes.” He slams the door to his trailer.
I walk in the trailer to find Elvis and I see him with a radio, I lean on a wall to look at him, “Hi.” I said.
He turns the radio off. “Can I watch the memorial with you?”
“Yeah, baby.” He puts his right hand out for me to sit next to him.
“I’m so tired of playing Elvis Presley. Too many people rely on me.” I sigh, “I love you and your daughter loves you.” I whimper to him.
“We don’t care about the money or anything else. We just want you to be happy. You’re only really happy when you sing the music you love.” I kiss his forehead.
I look at the TV and hear “Mahalia Jackson, I used to hear her sing at East Street Church.” I look at him.
“That’s the music that makes me happy.” Elvis points at the TV, I keep on watching the memorial.
Elvis meets up with a guy name, Steve Binder, about his Christmas Special. Elvis tells me about what he’s going to do, and it’s not a christmas special, it’s something different.
I wait for Elvis to get ready for the small stage, he looks good in a leather suit. He comes up to me and gives me a kiss, I kiss him back. I hope this goes well for him. The audience starts to clap when he went up on the stage. Jerry took me to esclusive area to see Elvis better.
‘Well, it’s down at the end Of Lonely Town’
He’s like a new Elvis but the same Elvis like I saw him at Russwood Park. He starts to sing Hound Dog and I get the feeling I had back when we met. He’s still the amazing guy. Jailhouse Rock comes on, he does new moves I haven’t seen before.
“Bobby Kennedy has been shot!” We run in the green room to see the TV and everyone is silent. I start to shake a little. What’s happening in America? Elvis holds me close, I hug him. Steve turns the TV volume down and says, “Listen, I, uh…. I just want to say that…” I can tell he want to cry.
“We have to say something. You…” He looks at Elvis, “have to make a statement, E.P.”
“Mr. Presley doesn’t make statements, he sings ‘Here Comes Santa Claus.’ and wishes everyone, ‘Merry Christmas and good night.’ I hate the Colonel. He rubs me the wrong way. The Colonel shuts off the TV.
Jerry and I hear music so we go in the sounding room, it’s Elvis singing a new song, it sounds amazing.
‘Still, I am sure that the answer’s answer’s gonna come somehow’
I continue to watch, I’m in awe.
‘While I can talk while I can stand while walk while I can dream oh, please let my dream come true, oh right now’
I clap a little but I can see the Colonel looking pissed. I can tell that, that song is going to be huge.

BLM Mustang for sale - Roux
For sale by Molly's Mustangs.
Are you looking for an awesome yearling that could go any direction?
Tumblr media
If so, Roux is your guy! Roux is a 13.1 (should finish around 15hh) bay gelding from Pancake, NV that is UTD on vaccines and Coggins. He is my draw for the 2023 Tennessee Extreme Mustang Makeover, so he would be available following the makeover. He could be picked up in Franklin, TN on June 25th or in Maurice, LA after that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Until old enough to ride, Roux would make a great liberty, showmanship, in-hand showing or companion horse as he is one of the sweetest horses and has a solid groundwork foundation. Once old enough to ride, I could see this guy going literally any direction. He has a solid mind and already knows some advanced maneuvers for his age, which could go on to help him in the show ring later. He also has the build and scope of an English prospect, and I could definitely see him excelling in the hunter/jumper or eventing disciplines.
Tumblr media
Roux has been trained using natural horsemanship and knows how to lunge wtc, sidepass, back an L, leg yield at walk or trot, stop fast, and more with just a neck rope or at liberty! He also knows tricks such as the lay down, sit, Spanish walk, spin, stand on a pedestal, bow and some more that I am keeping for a surprise in my freestyle! I’ve desensitized him to almost everything I could think of including being completely wrapped up with a tarp at liberty! He has been hauled at least once a week since I’ve had him and has already attended multiple clinics, an overnight horse camp, and has already been shown in-hand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would love to talk to you about Roux, so don’t hesitate to contact me for more info and to schedule a time to come meet him!

Cryptids & Creatures of Folklore Drawtober Day 2 — Pitty Pat
I uncovered a couple of new (to me) beasties from my home state of Tennessee while doing research for this year’s Drawtober. Here’s the first one—The Pitty Pat. Sightings of the Pitty Pat creature were first reported after the Civil War in Sales Creek, TN. Few details are given about the appearance of the creature besides it being cat-like in shape, dark in color, and walking on its hind legs.
One of the better known stories of an encounter with the Pitty Pat is that of a woman and her baby who were out one night in a horse drawn wagon. The wagon came around a sharp turn in the road and the Pitty Pat jumped out in front of the horses, frightening them so badly they overturned the wagon and bolted. The Pitty Pat is then said to have carried the baby off, never to be seen again.

No children here, except a few in a wagon behind
While at Robinson, or Tyree Springs, twenty miles from Nashville, on the borders of Kentucky and Tennessee, my hostess said to me, one day, “Yonder

comes a gang of slaves, chained.” I went to the road-side and viewed them. For the better answering my lugosis carhartt purpose of observation, I stopped the white man in front, panske boty nike hnede who was at his ease in a one-horse wagon, and asked him if those slaves were for sale. I counted them and observed their position. They were divided by three one-horse wagons, each containing a man-merchant, so arranged as to command the whole gang. Some were unchained; sixty were chained in two companies, thirty in each, the right hand of one to the left hand of the other opposite one, making fifteen each side of a large ox-chain, to which every hand was fastened, and necessarily compelled to hold up,—men and women promiscuously, and about in equal proportions,—all young people. No children here, except a few in a wagon behind, which were the only children in the four gangs. I said to a respectable mulatto woman in the house, “Is it true that the negro-traders take mothers from their babies?” “Massa, it is true; for here, last week, such a girl [naming her], who lives about a mile off, was taken after dinner,—knew nothing of it in the morning,—sold, put into the gang, and her baby given away to a neighbor. She was a stout young woman, and brought a good price.” He broke his fast in the cellar with his officers. Fried bread, fried eggs, blood sausages, and barley porridge made up the meal, washed down with thin yellow beer. Every time they shuffled forward another place, the bells on their collars tinkled brightly. Such a happy sound, it makes me want to scoop out someone’s eyeballs with a spoon. And whenever Natasha changed her tone and came to me with some complaint against Alyosha, or to ask for a solution of some ticklish question, or to tell me some secret, expecting me to understand her at half a word, she always, I remember, looked at me with a smile, as it were imploring me to answer somehow so that she should feel happy at heart at chanel ágynemű once. And I remember, too, I always in such cases assumed a severe and harsh tone as though scolding someone, and this happened quite unconsciously with me, but it pantofi sport cu scai barbati was always successful. I know that somewhere out upon the grass her dragons hatched, and polo raflorene so did she. I know she cizme din denim is proud. One very singular antithesis of two laws of Louisiana will still further show that deadness of public sentiment on cruelty to the slave which is an inseparable attendant on the system. It will be recollected that the remarkable protective law of South Carolina, with respect to scalding, burning, cutting out the tongue, and putting out the eye of the slave, has been substantially enacted in Louisiana; and that the penalty for a man’s doing these things there, if he has not sense enough to do it privately, is not more than five hundred dollars.. For a moment Bran thought it was his sister Arya … madly, for he knew his little sister was a thousand leagues away, or dead. And yet there she was, whirling, a scrawny thing, ragged, wild, her hair atangle. He shall be the stallion that mounts the world. Dany knew how it went with prophecies. Her hair had been brushed more carefully than usual, perhaps in honour of the new dress. Altogether, if it had not been for the strange wildness of her expression, she would have been a very pretty child.. He was back inside Summer, long leagues away, and the night was rank with the smell of blood. The scent was strong. Would it interest you to know that it was the eunuch who dispatched adidas retro schuhe männer me on this journey?” Him and Jaime, but I’ll leave my brother out of it. “I am as much his creature as you are. I swore no oath to Dorne, Ser Barristan told himself. But Lewyn Martell had been his Sworn Brother, back in the days when the bonds between the Kingsguard still went deep. IN the morning Nellie told me some rather strange details about the visit of the previous evening. Indeed, the very fact that Masloboev had taken it into his head to come that evening at all was strange. Captives in war were uniformly made slaves, and, as wars were of constant occurrence, the ranks of slavery were continually being reinforced; and, as slavery was hereditary and perpetual, there was every reason to suppose that the number would have gone on increasing indefinitely, had not some influence operated to stop it. This is one fact.. Bear-paws, they called them, queer elongated things made with bent wood and leather strips. Lashed onto the bottoms of their boots, the things somehow allowed them to walk on top of the snow without chanel ágynemű breaking through the crust nike delta force ár and sinking down to their thighs.. Castle Black seemed a bleak and forlorn place in the pale dawn light. My command, Jon Snow reflected ruefully, as much a ruin as it is a stronghold. The act of 1740 was founded on the practical good sense of our old planters, and its spirit still prevails. The act of 1821 is, by its terms, an act only to increase the punishment of persons convicted of murdering a slave,—and this is a refinement in humanity of doubtful policy. It was close to sunset before Daario Naharis appeared with his new Stormcrows, the Westerosi who had come over to him from the Windblown. Dany found herself glancing at them as yet another petitioner droned on and on. The thought was queerly comforting. His wolves had often foraged for him as they roamed; it seemed only fitting that he should feed them in the end. “Good heavens, as though he wouldn’t have come anyway! How can you ask!” he exclaimed, looking at her in wonder. I understand though, you are angry with him. She wanted to shake him, wake him, make him hold her, fuck her, help her forget, but she knew that if she did, he would only smile and yawn and say, “It was just a dream, my queen. Go back to sleep.”.

Mother Hit, Killed By Car Whereas Serving To Driver Who Struck Horses
Columbus police say as they have been hit with rocks, water bottles and fireworks, and so have the horses. The horses practice extensively on getting used to being round fireworks, massive crowds and other loud noises. Oakdale — The state is in search of everlasting custody of eight “malnourished and severely neglected” horses seized from an Oakdale farm,
based on the state Attorney General’s Office. Bennett mentioned he’s hopeful that King Soopers may have a change of heart, but when not, individuals can name to undertake a penny horse. "Thank you for sharing your passion for the penny horses," the statement reads.
That’s according to Eddie Bennett, whose household has maintained the horses and operated Roundup Music out of Sterling for decades. The Bennett family in northeastern Colorado has been maintaining and supplying penny horses to King Soopers shops since 1947.
"I don't understand how we're going to move forward from right here, losing such fantastic horses,” Carla Bundy, the co-proprietor, said. Volunteers have labored day and night to aid the horses’ recoveries news about horses with no sleep. The volunteers make sure the horses are eating, ingesting and receiving IV fluids, and log any adjustments or activities occurring with the horses in small notebooks.
The only drawback was that Jenna was heading to Cornell University Law School at the time, which meant that the care of a horse that hadn't been cared earlier than Jenna rescued him became Kyle's accountability. For the previous four years, BigBayRay.com, the not-for-profit Kyle began has turned recycled grain baggage into colorful reusable bags and other items.
All of the income in turn goes to local organizations that rescue horses, allowing Kyle's passion to find a mission that was started with one special horse. Big Bay Ray, a former monitor horse that Kyle's daughter, Jenna, rescued from Indian Hills Ranch in Milpitas, has been gone for four years now.
A retired Pleasanton nurse's not-for-revenue turns recycled grain luggage into reusable bags and different gifts that go to benefit native organizations to help to rescue horses. Industry advocates have long argued that the chains and other motion devices do not harm horses and banning them may hurt the industry and the realm's economy.
Desjarlais' bill would also amend 1970's Horse Protection Act to offer increased protection to horses taking part in reveals, exhibitions and sales. Yoho also mentioned the bill makes exceptions for stacked footwear and chains placed on horses after recommendation from veterinarians.
Rep. Kurt Schrader, D-Oregon, a cosponsor of the invoice, spoke at a podium in entrance of two 40-pound lead-weighted horse pads that rescuers had found on a Tennessee show horse referred to as Gen’s Ice Glimmer. The Horse Protection Act bans sored horses from competing in reveals, exhibitions or gross sales. Advocates, nevertheless, said this laws was ignored for years,
enforcement is lax and loopholes have been discovered by trainers. Soring is a way utilized by some trainers to enhance walking horses' naturally excessive gait. The approach is completed by exposing horses to chemical substances, placing overseas objects into an horse's hooves or putting heavy chains on horses.
"We understand how much you're keen on them and we do too. Due to COVID-19 security concerns we now have put a pause on penny horse rides. At this level there haven't been any long term choices made regarding their future in our stores." In an announcement,
King Soopers mentioned it has not made any long-time period selections about the way forward for penny horses in shops. The horses have been in King Soopers since 1947, when Bennett said his great grandfather made a handshake agreement with founder Lloyd King to put considered one of his penny horses in each of his supermarkets. That the journey keep just one cent, they usually have for decades.
She determined that she would find organizations that rescued horses and discover a method to help them financially. What started with a $1,seven hundred donation to a Pleasanton group referred to as Horses Healing Hearts has turned into a yearly donation of proceeds from the sale of the presents which were created from the recycled grain luggage. Gretchen Kyle's daughter rescued Ray Ray, the horse that inspired her mom's not-for-revenue group.
A volunteer came in earlier this week and gave the horses massages as well to make sure they are holding up through the long days. The vet got here and checked out the horses Wednesday to make sure they're all healthy and prepared to go back out. Every horse has been struck in some unspecified time in the future,” Columbus Police Sergeant Bob Forsythe said.

Allen Allensworth
Tumblr media
Allen Allensworth (7 April 1842 – 14 September 1914), born into slavery in Kentucky, escaped during the American Civil War and became a Union soldier; later he became a Baptist minister and educator, and was appointed as a chaplain in the United States Army. He was the first African American to reach the rank of lieutenant colonel. He planted numerous churches, and in 1908 founded Allensworth, California, the only town in the state to be founded, financed and governed by African Americans.
During the American Civil War, he escaped by joining the 44th Illinois Volunteers and later served two years in the navy. After being ordained as a minister, he worked as a teacher, studied theology and led several churches. In 1880 and 1884, he served as the only black delegate from Kentucky in the Republican National Conventions. In 1886, he gained an appointment as a military chaplain to a unit of Buffalo Soldiers in the West and served in the US Army for 20 years, retiring in 1906.
In addition to his work in developing churches, he was notable for founding the township of Allensworth, California in 1908; it was intended as an all-black community. Although environmental conditions inhibited its success as a farming community and the residents abandoned it after a few generations, much of the former town has been preserved as the Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park. It marks the founders' dream and the thriving community that developed for some time.
Biography
Early life and education
Born into slavery in Louisville, Kentucky in 1842, Allensworth was the youngest of thirteen children of Phyllis (c. 1782 - 1878) and Levi Allensworth. Over the years, their family was scattered: his sister Lila escaped with her intended husband to Canada by the Underground Railroad; and the older boys William, George, Frank, Levi and Major were sold downriver to plantations in the Deep South, which continued to buy enslaved workers from the Upper South to develop the cotton industry. Mary Jane was his only sibling who grew up in Kentucky and married there; she purchased her freedom in 1849, gaining stability.
His mother was held by A.P. and Bett Starbird. The mistress assigned Allen as a young slave to her son Thomas. When the Starbird boy started school, Allen began to learn from him, although it was illegal. After his father died when Allen was young, his mother chose to be sold as a cook to a neighbor, the attorney Nat Wolfe. When the Starbirds found Allen was learning to read, they separated him from their son and placed him with another family, the Talbots. Mrs. Talbot, a Quaker, was kind to Allen and continued to teach him to read and write; she also took him to a Sunday school for slave children. When Bett Starbird discovered this, she took Allen back. In 1854 she made arrangements with her husband's partner John Smith to send the boy to his brother Pat's plantation down the Mississippi River in Henderson, Kentucky, to put an end to his learning. On the steamboat, the boy was placed in the care of a slave steward rather than being chained with other slaves below deck. They were being transported for sale to downriver markets.
Hebe Smith, Allen's new mistress, assigned him to be a houseboy; she prohibited him from continuing his studies, and whipped him for trying to do so. Also working in the household was a white orphan boy Eddie; the two boys became friends and helped each other. Suffering on the farm from a cruel overseer, in 1855 at age 13, Allen planned to escape to Canada. He spent two weeks hiding at a neighboring farm before returning to the Smiths for punishment. Later he ran away again. The Smiths and Starbirds agreed to sell him on the auction block in Henderson.
Allensworth was sold again in Memphis, Tennessee and shipped to New Orleans. There he was bought by Fred Scruggs, who taught him to work as an exercise boy and jockey in Jefferson, Louisiana. Unlike others, his new master was pleased to learn that the boy could read; he assigned him to race his best horse.
Civil War and freedom
In early 1861 the Civil War loomed, but horse racing continued. Scruggs took Allen and his horses upriver for the fall meet in Louisville. Allensworth hoped to see his mother Phyllis again, as he had learned that her last master, a Rev. Bayliss, had freed her after she cared for his dying wife. He found that she had recently gone to New Orleans with a Union man to look for her sons. (She found Major in prison.) Waiting for her return, Allensworth was reunited with his sister Mary Jane, who had married and had a son. She had purchased her freedom in 1849. When Phyllis Starbird returned to Louisville, she and Allen were reunited.
While working nearby on a farm where Scruggs' deputy had placed him, Allensworth met soldiers from the 44th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, a Union unit encamped near Louisville. When he told them of wanting freedom, they invited him to join the Hospital Corps. In disguise, he marched with the unit past his old master through Louisville and off to war. After serving as a civilian nursing aide for some time, he was invited to accompany Dr. A. J. Gordon, one of the surgeons, to his home in Georgetown, Ohio. There Allensworth dined with Gordon's family, was given a room of his own, and felt he first walked as a free man. With the war continuing, in 1863 Allensworth enlisted in the US Navy, where he earned his first pay as a free man. He was soon promoted to Captain's steward and clerk, and served on the gunboats Queen City and Tawah for two years.
Postwar years
Allensworth first returned to Kentucky to work and study. In 1868 he joined his brother William in St. Louis, where they operated two restaurants. Within a short time, they received a favorable offer and sold them out; Allensworth returned to Louisville. He worked while putting himself through the Ely Normal School, one of several new schools in the South established by the American Missionary Association. During Reconstruction, Allensworth taught at schools for freedmen and their children operated by the Freedmen's Bureau. Inspired by his own teaching, he began attending courses at the Nashville Institute, later known as the Roger Williams University, but did not graduate. The school later gave him an honorary Master of Arts.
Allensworth became involved with the Baptist Church in Louisville and attended the Fifth Street Baptist Church led by Henry Adams. He was ordained in 1871 by the Baptists as a preacher. In the 1870s, Allensworth went to Tennessee to study theology. During this time he also served as a preacher in Franklin, Tennessee, south of Nashville.
In 1875, Allensworth started working as a teacher in Georgetown, Kentucky. He also served as the financial agent of the General Association of the Colored Baptists in Kentucky. They had joined together to support the founding of a religious school for black teachers and preachers. Allensworth was among the founders of The State University, helped guarantee the salary of the president in the early years, and served on the Board of Trustees.
He returned to Louisville when called to be pastor of the Harney Street Baptist Church, which he reorganized, attracting many new members. They renamed it Centennial Baptist Church; it was selected as a model by the American Baptist Home Mission Society of America. Within a few years, Allensworth had increased the congregation nearly fivefold, and it built a new church.
Marriage and family
In 1877 he married Josephine Leavell (1855–1938), also born in Kentucky; they had met while studying at Roger Williams University in Nashville, Tennessee. She was an accomplished pianist, organist and music teacher. They had two daughters together, Eva and Nella.
The year of his marriage, Allensworth invited his mother to live with him and Josephine. They had several months together before she died in 1878 at the age of 96.
Post-Reconstruction era
Allensworth was called to the State Street Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He also gave public lectures. That fall, he went to Boston to give a series of lectures, after studying public speaking in Philadelphia.
On his return, he met people from the American Baptist Publication Society in Philadelphia, who appointed him as Sunday School Missionary for the state of Kentucky. He had always worked to build up the Sunday Schools at his churches, and this gave him the chance to continue to work on education around the state. The Colored Baptist State Sunday School Convention of Kentucky appointed him to the position of State Sunday School Superintendent.
With his leadership positions and public speaking, Allensworth became increasingly interested in politics. In 1880 and 1884, he was selected as Kentucky's only black delegate to the Republican National Conventions.
Military career as chaplain
In 1886, when he was 44, Allensworth gained support by both southern and northern politicians for appointment as a chaplain in the US Army; his appointment was confirmed by the Senate, as necessary at the time, and approved by the president. He was one of the few black chaplains in the US Army and was assigned to the 24th Infantry Regiment, known as the Buffalo Soldiers. His family accompanied him on assignments in the West, ranging from Fort Bayard, New Mexico Territory to Fort Supply, Indian Territory, and Fort Harrison, near Helena, Montana. His wife played organ in the fort chapels.
At Fort Bayard, Allensworth wrote Outline of Course of Study, and the Rules Governing Post Schools of Ft. Bayard, N.M.. The Army adapted these for use as the standard manual on the education of enlisted personnel.
By the time of his retirement in 1906, Allensworth had been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel, the first African American to gain that rank.
Allensworth, California
After the army, Allensworth and his family settled in Los Angeles. He was inspired by the idea of establishing a self-sufficient, all-black California community where African Americans could live free of the racial discrimination that pervaded post-Reconstruction America. His dream was to build a community where black people might live and create "sentiment favorable to intellectual and industrial liberty."
In 1908, he founded Allensworth in Tulare county, about thirty miles north of Bakersfield, in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. The black settlers of Allensworth built homes, laid out streets, and put up public buildings. They established a church, and organized an orchestra, a glee club, and a brass band.
The Allensworth colony became a member of the county school district and the regional library system and a voting precinct. Residents elected the first African-American Justice of the Peace in post-Mexican California. In 1914, the California Eagle reported that the Allensworth community consisted of 900 acres (360 ha) of deeded land worth more than US$112,500.
Allensworth soon developed as a town, not just a colony. Among the social and educational organizations that flourished during its golden age were the Campfire Girls, the Owl Club, the Girls' Glee Club, and the Children's Savings Association, for the town's younger residents, while adults participated in the Sewing Circle, the Whist Club, the Debating Society, and the Theater Club. Col. Allensworth was an admirer of the African-American educator Booker T. Washington, who was the founding president and longtime leader of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Allensworth dreamed that his new community could be self-sufficient and become known as the "Tuskegee of the West".
The Girls' Glee Club was modeled after the Jubilee Singers of Fisk University, who had toured internationally. They were the community's pride and joy. All the streets in the town were named after notable African Americans and/or white abolitionists, such as Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, poet Paul Lawrence Dunbar, and Harriet Beecher Stowe, abolitionist and author of Uncle Tom's Cabin.
The dry and dusty soil made farming difficult. The drinking water became contaminated by arsenic as the water level fell.
The year 1914 also brought a number of setbacks to the town. First, much of the town's economic base was lost when the Santa Fe Railroad moved its rail stop from Allensworth to Alpaugh. In September, during a trip to Monrovia, California, Colonel Allensworth was crossing the street when he was struck and killed by a motorcycle. The town refuses to die. The downtown area is now preserved as Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park where thousands of visitors come from all over California to take part in the special events held at the park during the year. The area outside the state park is also still inhabited.
Allensworth is the only California community to be founded, financed and governed by African Americans. The founders were dedicated to improving the economic and social status of African Americans. Uncontrollable circumstances, including a drop in the area's water table, resulted in the town's decline.
Legacy and honors
The state has preserved the site and is gradually restoring its buildings. The most important building is the school house, which the community prized as representing the future of its children. In use until 1972, it is furnished as it would have been on a school day in 1915. The park arranges special events to celebrate the former community's history, and the park's visitor center features a film about the site. An annual re-dedication ceremony reaffirms the vision of the original pioneers.
Col. Allensworth's residence is preserved and furnished in the 1912-period style. It contains items from his life in the military service and the ministry. A small display of farm equipment is a reminder of the Allensworth economic base.
A public monument, designed by Ron Husband, has been funded by the City of Monrovia, California.
Death
Allen Allensworth died at the age of 72, on September 14, 1914. He was killed by a motorcyclist in Monrovia, California.

Ezekiel 39:1-40:27, James 2:18-3:18, Psalms 118:1-18, Proverbs 28:2
Today is the 19th day of November. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It's great to be here with you. In fact, there’s nowhere else I'd rather be than here with you now taking the next step forward in our journey through the Scriptures this year. And it won’t be long before we wrap up the book of Ezekiel, but we will still continue forward for the next few days. We’re reading from the New Living Translation this week. Ezekiel chapter 39 verse 1 through 40 verse 27.
Commentary:
Okay. So, James is here in our lives right now just pretty much kicking butt. I don't know if you're feeling that way, but I always feel that way reading the book of James because it's so direct, so concise, so clear. And, so, I mean basically, we've kind of passed through the middle of this letter and what James is trying to…to point out here is that, yes, indeed, absolutely, faith is where the story with God begins, absolutely and he even refers to Abraham in the same way that Paul did; however, James says, “once that story has begun, like yes, you have to reach out in faith and live and walk by faith but once that story is happening it's not…your faith isn't real if your life doesn't measure up to what you say.” In other words, your faith isn't faith if your actions do not describe the faith that you claim. Like faith isn't something you can just claim that you have as a possession and have put in a drawer or a closet and compartmentalized into a part of your life that is reserved largely for a couple of hours on Sunday morning. But that that faith goes back into the drawer and the you move back into your life and that faith doesn't inform the way you live and transform the way you see everything. According to James, our faith should change us utterly. It should be an influence over our thoughts and our words and our deeds in a way that irreversibly affects the way we move forward into life and through the world and in all of our interactions, otherwise it’s not really faith. And James drove that point home by saying, “just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.” So, obviously James is…well…I mean if the James that wrote this is the brother of Jesus then he is speaking very directly as the leader of the Jerusalem church. So, he may have been a very direct person but probably he’s being this direct because he doesn't want to be misunderstood at all. If we have faith but it’s not affecting the way we live and isn't transforming us then according to James, it's dead faith. And, so, James moves into a prime example of how this actually practically works. One of the ways that we actually put our faith into action is in the way that we monitor and steward what's coming out of our mouths. So, James likened our tongues to the bit in a horse's mouth or the…the rudder of a ship. So, it's a small thing that can steer something very large. Our tongues are a small thing hiding behind our teeth, but they steer the entire trajectory of our lives. Such a big deal that James said that we can burn our lives down all around us with our tongues. Ohhhh…yeah…I mean…so, we have all said things we would un-say in the moment and we’ve all said things that later on we regret having said. And then there are times that we…right…you just are burning your life down around you…you’ve just…you’ve started and it's just a scorched earth because all self-control is lost and the gloves are off and things are being said that shouldn't be said to another human being at all. So, fundamentally, James…James is saying that’s a problem, that's a big problem, but if we are willing to observe how dark our words can be and how they can bring darkness into a situation, if we’ll see that we can burn our lives down around us with our mouths and realize that then we also need to realize that the equal and corresponding good can come from that. Like we can use our words to bring light and life and good news in the same way that we can bring darkness. The odd thing is that we can do those two things, all on the same day even in the same hour even just minutes apart. James says, “sometimes the tongue praises our Lord and Father and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so, blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely my brothers and sisters this is not right.” So, since we realize there's a lot of power going on in this little member behind our teeth, that we have such power to bless and to curse, then maybe the first actionable step forward in putting our faith…like living the faith we claim would be in harnessing and controlling what we say because we all know what can happen when we don't. We can indeed be angels of mercy and stone-cold killer's with our tongues. And as James is telling us, that's not right. And if we could control our tongues like the rudder of a ship, the rest would follow, the rest of us would follow in body and in soul and set us on a path that will put our faith into action in everything we do, because what we’re learning from the book of James is…we can thing say anything but if what we’re saying does not line up with the way we’re living our lives then what we’re saying isn't true.
Prayer:
Father that's stark, that's…in some ways it might even see them confrontational or harsh, but we thank You for Your word. We thank You that through the power of Your Holy Spirit, it will look us in the face and confront us and on this particular issue most of us need to be confronted. And, so, Holy Spirit come into what we say, into what we claim, and into how we’re actually living that out. And as we’ve learned today there is no better place to begin looking for evidence of this transformational faith then in what we’re saying out of our mouths. So, we ask forgiveness for starters for using our mouths to worship You and to denigrate and diminish those You have created around us all on the same day. We acknowledge along with James, this isn’t right. And, so, we step into that because it's not right and it never will be right and it's causing damage because we’re trying to mix darkness and light at the same time into some kind of potion that’s supposed to transform us when it's doing nothing because we’re practicing a dead faith according to James. So…so…so we just let that be. We invite You into that. We invite You to convict us in the areas that we need to be convicted and to correct us in the areas that need to be corrected so that we might live our faith and so that it might transform us irreversibly so that we might reveal Your kingdom in this world. We ask this, we pray this, we humble ourselves and receive this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

In the Daily Audio Bible Shop you can find resources for the journey that we’re on including the God of Your Story, which…well I guess it's been about a month now since we’ve been talking about that. And now that we’re kind of moving ourselves into the holiday season I'll remind you that it is a…really, really is a fantastic resource to invite those that you love into the rhythm of life that is, you know, having the Bible in your life every day. A lot of times people will say, “I'm a reader. I just…I'll read it myself. I’ve found over the years that that's code for, “I’m not gonna do this.” But there are those who are. I'm a reader. And, so, the God of Your Story kind of offers in written form the rhythm that we experience here in the spoken realm each and every day. So, it makes for a fantastic companion to the Daily Audio Bible. It's the essence of the Daily Audio Bible, but it also creates an experience that is readable for those times that we’re disconnecting or disconnected from…from, you know, the Internet or…or we’re just trying to…to get into silence. It just makes for a great resource. So that's available in Daily Audio Bible Shop. As I have said that every time I’ve talked about…well…maybe not every time, but many times that I've talked about this, all of the proceeds from the sale of the God of your story from the Daily Audio Bible Shop, all of it is being sewn back into…into the ministry in keeping of the journey going every single day. So, check that out in the Daily Audio Bible Shop.
If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, you can do that at dailyaudiobible.com as well. There is a link and it lives on the homepage. And I thank you humbly and profoundly for your partnership as we approach the end of the year. If you’re using the Daily Audio Bible app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner of the app or the mailing address, if you prefer, is PO Box 1996 Spring Hill Tennessee 37174.
And, as always, if you have a prayer request or comment you can hit the Hotline button in the app, the little red button at the top or you can dial 877-942-4253.

New Ariat Store at Nashville’s Fifth + Broadway Aims to Give You the Boot
New Post has been published on https://walrusvideo.com/new-ariat-store-at-nashvilles-fifth-broadway-aims-to-give-you-the-boot/
New Ariat Store at Nashville’s Fifth + Broadway Aims to Give You the Boot
A rite of passage for many visitors to Music City is shopping for boots at one of downtown’s “Buy One Pair, Get Two Pairs Free” stores. While that sure sounds like a great deal, who really planned ahead to leave enough room in their luggage to carry six boots home? You’ll probably have to buy an extra suitcase and pay for an extra bag on your return flight. Doesn’t sound like as much of a bargain now, does it?
Besides, there’s an old saying that goes, “He’s all hat and no cattle,” a statement on the authenticity of someone claiming to have legit country cred. Instead of buying three pairs of cheap boots, may we suggest dropping into the
new Ariat store
in the massive
Fifth + Broadway
retail and entertainment complex that recently opened downtown? Aimed at footwear buyers who are looking for boots that are comfortable, utilitarian and attractive, Ariat prides itself on being the global leader in equestrian footwear and clothing.

Their commitment to authenticity is evident in many ways as soon as you walk into their attractive shop at Firth + Broadway. Photos of famous rodeo competitors, Olympic equestrian riders and country music stars adorn the walls, and they are quick to point out that they only sponsor athletes who believe in and wear the brand. One of the dressing rooms is decorated with an onstage photo of country performer
Ashley McBryde
proudly sporting her Ariats during a performance, so you can feel like you’re part of her band while trying on some clothes.
The equestrian obsession of the company includes its name, a shortening of the name of the most famous racehorse of all time, Secretariat. A remarkable wooden piece of artwork of a horse dominates the showroom floor, constructed by a local artist using scavenged music instruments to create details like guitar strings for the tail and a piano key mane.

Nashville is the first urban core location of Ariat’s three corporate stores, with the other two in Fresno and Lexington aiming at more agricultural and working equestrian customer bases. While the shop does indeed showcase some gorgeous exotic skin boots, the majority of the inventory are designed for people that actually wear them on a daily basis, including like, y’know, outdoors and in the dust.
Every customer receives a custom fitting to ensure they’re getting the proper size, because good leather boots will eventually stretch and mold to your foot. In addition to a one-year quality guarantee, Ariat boots are designed like athletic footwear, just for equestrian athletes. They offer cushioned footbeds with shock shields that actually feel more like your favorite pair of sneakers than those hard-seamed patent leather foot traps you might buy in a self-service discount bootery.

The shopping experience at Ariat is more like visiting a luxury boutique, with trained sales representatives standing by to help walk you through the best styles and designs for your intended use. If they don’t happen to have your exact size in your selected boot, they’ll happily ship the right boots to your house, free of charge. Most boots at Ariat retail in the $159-$259 range, with exotics topping out at closer to $600 for rare hides. They also offer leather shoes that they call “cruisers” that are appropriate for working, walking or riding and which start out at just $89.
In addition, Ariat offers performance outerwear and blue jeans, again aimed at the equestrian market. Made from high quality materials and designed for performance, these clothes look great whether you’re on horseback or not. You don’t wear your Carhartt beanie only in the barn, do you?

Whether you’re a visitor to Nashville hunting for the perfect memento of your trip or a local seeking out a pair of boots that you’ll actually wear for years, Ariat is worth checking out. You’ll be glad you did!

In The Blood Ch.9
“So...how was you guys’ Spring Break?” I asked. Raven, Sophie, and I had met up for lunch in between classes the first day back. Himchan and Yongguk were kind of AWOL, so it was as good as time as any to talk with just us girls. Sophie was the first one to respond, speaking in between small bites of her pepperoni Hawaiian pizza.
“Mine was great actually. I had so much fun in Tennessee. Oooh! You guys should definitely come with me next time! My uncle wouldn’t mind at all. And the animals are just so darn cute! The horses are so big now since last time I saw them. Oh! And I got to see a couple of the ducklings hatch. It was so cool!” Rae and I laughed softly at our bubbly friend.
“Well then,” Rae started as she picked around her spaghetti. “Sounds like you had a rather busy and adventurous break. I’m glad you had fun. I just mostly shopped around Washington and slept in. You know, catching up on my beauty rest and what not.” She chuckled as I rolled my eyes at her last comment.
“Wait a minute. I thought you and your parents were going to go to New York. What happened?” I asked, remembering how excited she seemed for the shopping trips she was bound to have in the big city. I heard her groan.
“You know that my dad is a history geek right? Always spouting off random facts and whatnot. Well, for some reason, he felt like New York was just a place for people to become mindless zombies of sales, and figured Washington would be more enlightening and beneficial. I, of course was not happy. Mom was kind of neutral.” This time Sophie spoke up.
“Well if it’s history he was seeking, you could've tried to persuade him by mentioning the Harlem Renaissance. Lots of history and art with that argument.” Sophie sipped her drink in a matter of fact manner as Raven groaned into her hands, muttering to herself that it would’ve been genius.
“Ugh! Enough about me,” Rae declared as she stopped wallowing in self pity. “How was your Spring Break Haze?”
“Not much, actually. I mostly just sketched and read.” I could already see the disappointed looks they were giving me.
“Don’t you do that on a regular basis, Haze? Is that all you did?” Sophie was the first to speak. I took another bite of my food before I told them that I also went to see a movie.
“The one you and Yongguk were supposed to go see?” Raven asked. “How’d that go by the way?” I looked down at my plate.
“I didn’t go with him.”
“Oh really?” It was Sophie’s turn. “So, you went by yourself?” I bit my bottom lip.
“I went with Ethan actually.” Immediately there was eyebrow wagging and “ooohs” from both of them. Raven spoke up after having her fun.
“How’d that happen? How did it go??” So, I ended up recounting the whole thing. Starting with meeting him coincidentally at the sandwich shop and him tagging along with me to the sci-fi movie.
“....then he walked me back to my dorm and he kind of...kissed me.” A confused Raven looked back at me.
“So? What’s the big deal? He’s kissed you before hasn’t he? On the first date? Unless this kiss was more on the hot and heavy side. If that’s the case then I need details miss.” I scoffed at her.
“What? Of course not. It wasn’t like that. It was on the forehead.” This time Sophie spoke up.
“Then, what’s so special about this kiss Haze? I’m confused.”
“I’m not sure Sophe. It just felt different. His demeanor was different. Instead of being shy like how he was the whole night, he seemed more...confident. More bold. I’m honestly confused myself. I can’t really pinpoint him just yet.”
“Well aside from all of that, it seems like you two are getting along well.” Sophe said in between small sips of her coke.
“Yeah...it seems so.” I caught a small smile play on Raven’s lips at this revelation as she took another forkful of pasta.
I saw Yongguk the following day in class. As we prepared to start taking notes on the lecture, my phone let out a soft buzz from my back pocket. Fishing it out, I saw that I had received a text message from Ethan.
“Good morning Beautiful :)” I felt the familiar smile I seemed to get lately find its way on my lips. I quickly typed out a “good morning” back, turned my phone on mute, and set it down on my desk. The teacher had just started talking about the midterms we had taken before Spring break. Apparently she wasn’t finished with the grading, but promised to finish soon and have the grades posted by the end of this week. My phone’s screen lit up briefly, before it faded to black once more. Another text message.
“How’d you sleep?” I responded with a simple “fine,” and asked him the same. The teacher began lecturing as I placed my phone back on my desk. Yongguk proceeded to get his pen out, ready to take notes and I followed suit, taking a sip of my morning coffee I bought before class. The teacher’s voice droned on as I tried to pick out the key concepts of the lecture. About ten minutes passed by before my phone lit up again. Ethan.
“I slept fine.” Before I could type out a response, another message popped up on my screen.
“So...I sort of have a problem. Maybe you can help me.” Now this definitely piqued my interest. My fingers started dancing across my keyboard before I had time to stop myself. I mean, I was in class after all.
“What kind of problem?” I placed my phone down on my desk, once more, only this time it was face down. Hopefully, by me not seeing my phone brighten whenever I get a text, I’ll be less inclined to respond immediately. I will say, that I managed to go a good twenty minutes before I couldn’t help but to snatch my phone up and read Ethan’s next message. I managed to jot down a few notes before then though. One glance at Yongguk’s paper though, told me that I missed a good bit of key points. Bright Screen.
“So there’s this really pretty girl that I want to invite for dinner this week, but I’m a little nervous. :/” A small burst of giggles left my lips as I read the message. Is he being serious?
“Well, why are you nervous?” I typed back. I went back to try to take more notes. God knows that I missed a huge portion of the lecture. The screen lights up again.. Only this time, I ignore it. The information seems really important, and I already don’t have sufficient notes as it is. No. I need to focus. That message will be there at the end of class, but for now, I need to take notes.
I’m not exactly sure, how many minutes ticked by, as I struggled not to let my curiosity of what Ethan sent back, win. Concentrate Haze. Stop looking at the damn phone! It was only a minute after chastising myself, that I rolled my eyes in annoyance towards myself and simultaneously picked up my phone to read Ethan’s reply.
“Well, it’s because I want to cook for her, and I don’t want to mess it up. Plus, I’ve never cooked for a girl before. What if she doesn’t like it?” Why was he being so...adorable right now?
“Lol. I’m sure she will be happy with the fact that you’re even trying to cook for her. Girls tend to appreciate the effort given. As for what to cook...what does she like to eat?” I exchanged the phone in my hand for my pencil as I was about to take notes...again. That is, before I saw what time it was. There was only seven minutes left. There was absolutely no point in trying to jot down the remainder of the lecture. I just hope Yongguk pulled through this time around. Bright screen.
“I’m not sure. :/. Let’s say that you were the girl I was planning on cooking for...hypothetically speaking, of course, what would you want to eat?” I didn’t have to ponder for long.
“Pasta and salad. It’s simple, easy, and hard to mess up.” As I sent my last message, everyone around me was packing up their belongings and headed for the exit. I followed suit, placing my notebook with my half assed notes and barely used pencil inside of my backpack. Once Yongguk and I were on the outside, safe from the herd of students, I turned to Yongguk wearing what I imagine looked like a sheepish expression.
“Soooo….Any ch-” Yongguk began shaking his head in amusement and laughed at me.
“I already know what you’re about to ask me and the answer is yes. I do have good notes this time, and yes you can copy them down.” I let out a relieved breath.
“Thanks Yongguk. I was somewhat distracted today.” A wide smile found its way on his lips as he nudged me in the arm.
“Yeah, I noticed. Was it this Ethan guy? You know, I’m not sure if I can approve of him, if he’s already hindering your school work young lady.” I playfully rolled my eyes at him.
“Come on. I’ll treat you to breakfast while I copy your notes.”
“Deal. But I’m buying.” he proclaimed. I shrugged at his offer.
“Fine by me. Let’s go ‘Dad.’” I said with as much sarcasm I could muster up.
A few moments later, I was nibbling on a piece of French toast while copying the final page of  Yongguk’s notes. Yongguk sat across from me, grumbling about the amount of people that asked for his tutoring help. After a while, I guess he figured out that I wasn’t wholeheartedly paying attention to him. It wasn’t until he brought up the movie he had missed, as I finished writing the last bit of notes, that I finally looked up at him.
“I’m sorry I had to miss it,” he said, but I just waved him off. It wasn’t really a big deal after all.
“It’s fine Gukkie. I ended up going with someone else, so we’re good.”
“Oh, so what you mean is that you replaced me with some second rate being. Alright, who was it?” I shook my head at his silliness.
“I went with Ethan, actually.” I looked down at my plate of French toast, as I waited for Yongguk to say something.
“Oh really? Wait, I thought you said he was going to be out of town until the end of the break. How’d that happen?”
“I’m not sure, actually. I was just as surprised as you are. We met as I was getting food before the show. It was pleasant coincidence.”
“Hmmm...Pleasant huh? Sounds like I’m already getting kicked to the curb.” I couldn’t help but laugh as he started to pout.
“Oh shush you big baby. No one is kicking you to the curb as you like to put it. Like I said, it was a coincidence.”
We continued to talk as we moved on from the subject of Ethan. I was in the middle of laughing at some corny joke Yongguk had told, when I noticed him stiffen in his chair. My giggles died off my lips as I regained my composure. I started to ask what was wrong, until I heard a familiar voice behind, saying my name. I turned back to see Ethan standing behind me, looking casual in his plain jeans, but still handsome.
“Ethan. Hi. You remember Yongguk don’t you?”
“Of course. Nice to run into you again.” he said smoothly. Yongguk gave a quick nod.
“Yeah...you too.” Yongguk started packing his belongings and stood up from the table. Before I could ask where he was headed too, Yongguk spoke first.
“Haze, I’ll see you later, okay? I gotta get this tutoring schedule in order and stuff. I’ll text you alright?” But before I could respond, he had already started walking towards the doors that lead to courtyard outside.
“So,” Ethan began. “When’s your next class?” I looked at my phone for the time and realized that time had gone by quickly and that my next class started in half an hour.
“Then can I walk you to class? I’m not busy with anything.” He looked at me expectantly.
“Sure. I’d like that.”
With ease he picked up my bag after I had packed it and carried it while we walked.
“So, how was your break?” I asked after walking for a couple of minutes.
“It was alright,” he stated. “A little weird though. It felt like I was being watched most of the time.”
“Watched?” I asked, clearly puzzled. He laughed at my worried face.
“My dad was in the military and sometimes his PTSD and paranoia consumes him. He was very...watchful during the break. Another reason why I left earlier. But enough about that...How about dinner? At my place? I’ll cook.”
I pretended that our little text conversation hadn’t happened earlier and feigned surprise. I let out a small gasp.
“You cook?” Ethan gave me a sideways smirk before he answered.
“Sweetie, I’m full of surprises. Stick around long enough, and you might get to see them all.” Okay. To say that I was unnerved...again, would be an understatement. I don’t understand how he can go from cute, shy, and  dorky to...well, this. I found myself flustered before I was able to respond.
“Oh really? I might just have to take you up on that offer.” Ethan flashed his white teeth in his signature smile.
“Good. You won’t be disappointed. Now, come on. We gotta get you to class,” he says while slightly picking up the pace.

50 Times People Couldn’t Believe Their Luck In Thrift Stores, Flea Markets And Garage Sales (New Pics)
It would be harder to find a greater temple to human creativity than the thrift store. Places where unneeded items are abandoned are so often a stop for so-called bad ideas, from hardly-useful inventions to rejected art and clothing that was never in style in the first place. But these items haven’t found their final resting place… they’re just waiting to be found by people who they truly speak to.
To quote a saying that the Facebook group Weird Secondhand Finds lives by, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Their hauls, taken variously from thrift stores, yard sales, and relatives’ closets that haven’t been cleaned in decades, prove that among the items that people decided they didn’t need are some seriously fascinating creations. Sometimes you can even find incredibly valuable and educational artifacts that you won’t believe somebody let slip away.
If you can't get enough after looking through this gallery of oddities, check out our previous lists of the best secondhand finds.

#1 Found At A Thrift Store On Whidbey Island, WA -This Old Battered Book Caught My Eye Because It Looked Like It Fell Off A Pirate Ship
Upon further inspection, I found it was a Mark Twain, first edition, printed in 1883 which makes it 137 years old. I bought it for $5
It is a delicate old thing. The pages are chipping with age, and like all secondhand finds, I wonder about its history. How did it get from Little Rock, AR (per the handwriting) to a little island in the Pacific Northwest? Who’s hands have touched it over the course of 100+ years? At one point it rolled out of a printing press into a world that still utilized horse-drawn carriages. I’m unsure of its value, but I treasure this battered old book and will continue to keep it safe

#2 It Started With One Dinner Plate In A Oregon Thrift Store In 2003
I thought, oh that's nice! And bought it. Then I found the tea cups about 6 months later... Piece by piece, every one of them hunted up at a thrift store in the PNW, building up to this marvelous collect you see today. 17 years in the making. I didn't find anything for years, then recently found a second serving platter and serving bowl

In summer 2019, somebody found a pencil drawing of a nude girl composed of distinctively warped lines in a Habitat for Humanity thrift store in New York City. Suspecting that it was drawn by Egon Schiele, he contacted a scholar of the artist’s work, who was surprised to find that it was genuine upon analyzing the materials and comparing it with a sequence of Schiele’s drawings.
The newly discovered Schiele piece was determined to be from 1918 and was valued at $100,000 to $200,000. The gallery that the observant thrift store buyer brought it to confirmed that a portion of the proceeds from selling it would be donated to Habitat for Humanity, the charity that the thrift store benefits.

#8 I Found This Kids Chemcraft Chemistry Set At A Flea Market In Nashville, Tennessee. People Would Lose Their Minds If Something Like This Was Released Today For Kids To Play With
And yes, that's real yellowcake and radioactive uranium ore in the two atomic energy vials. She was asking $22 for it but I think I ended up paying $10. She put a sticker on it saying it's from the 60's but the booklets that came with it state that this is kit no. 10 which was produced in 1947. According to research done in oak ridge, Tennessee, in mid to late 1947, porter chemical company produced laboratory kits for children that included an atomic energy component. Initially, they produced two kits. The no. 10 kit and the no. 25 kit. It's not in the greatest shape and I'm sure there are items missing, but I worked at a uranium enrichment plant for years so I had to have it

#11 I Saw This Stunning Piece Of Stained Glass On The Side Of The Road Off Route 9 In Berkeley Springs, WV. I Turned Around Because I Couldn't Just Leave It There
I paid $20 and struggled to fit it into the back of my car as it is about 30.5" x 42", catching the pieces as they fell out along the way. I took this beauty to Fogal glassworks in Chambersburg, PA to be repaired. I spent $320 on the repairs and was informed by the shop that if I wanted this piece made from scratch today it would cost over $1500. I am so glad I could save this beautiful piece of art

The most wonderful thing happened today. After recently moving to a different state, we just happened to go to an antique expo in town where we found a silly cycle. My grandfather, Reedy Ellington McLellan Sr., invented them. There are probably only a handful left in existence. I burst into tears when I saw it. #23 2015, I Found This Lovely And Large Portrait In A Local 2nd Hand Story
2015, I found this lovely and large portrait in a local 2nd hand story.
The card on it really caught my attention.
I’m very familiar with Manazanar, the former WW II U.S. interment camp for Japanese American residents and citizens.
My grandfather was a farmer in coastal San Diego county and some of his fellow farmers were Japanese. At the time of the war, only US born Japanese Americans could buy land for farming. My grandfather stored their belongings when his neighbors were sent away. Many others, including churches also stored internees personal possessions.
I had a feeling that this portrait might have been stored for a family and for some reason, they had not recovered it.
A few calls and emails, I was able to get help from the ranger at Manzanar.
Although Itoko was a newlywed when she arrived at Manzanar with her husband, parents and in-laws, the ranger was able to connect me with her nephew Fred who lives in San Diego, not far from me.
He told me that they had never returned to their home in Pacific Palisades and instead relocated to San Diego where they farmed celery. She and her husband never had children and Nephew Fred took care of them in their older years.
Most amazing of all! Itoko was still alive! She was in a nursing home and has memory issues but she recognized her portrait immediately. She told Fred that it was her and that it hung in her bedroom when she was a child.

#38 I See Your Tiny Pets With Mini Furniture- I Give You “My Giant Hare On A Victorian Chair!”
I found this Victorian chair at a thrift store and decided quickly I couldn’t live without it! It’s antique velvet with carved wood.
This is my Flemish Giant Rabbit, Leroux, aka Big Bun. He sadly passed away last year at the age of 9. He was about 19 lbs. and such a character! (Picture on the left for size comparison). He lived everywhere with me including downtown Chicago! He was my world.
Big Bun was always a house rabbit. He even had his own room (included in the photos)! He lived a little longer than normal (lifespan is 7 years or so.) I fed him the best of the best food (Oxbow brand) with plenty of Timothy hay, fresh veggies, and digestive tablets. He was litter box trained and never had accidents in the house. He loved to snuggle and would watch tv with me! Flemish Giants are a wonderful breed of rabbit and make fantastic pets!
I included a picture of him with his dog brothers and my favorite photo of him in his Christmas bow tie. He was always a legend.
