less than two weeks after a law passed that bans transgender people in utah from using bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity, an elected official is already inciting death threats against a child:

the girl in question (who is cisgender) is under police protection currently after a member of the STATE EDUCATION BOARD posted her photos on facebook and implied that the girl was trans. she took the photos down after learning that the girl was cis, but the damage had already been done. the student in question had already recieved a barrage of death threats.

the board member, natalie cline, has faced backlash and state legislature has already started discussion on how to impeach state board officials, but I find it important to reiterate that the girl she accused of being trans was in fact cisgender. I doubt the backlash would be quite so widespread if this wasn't a false accusation. this behavior is being normalized and encouraged by our bigoted state legislation.

we're going to see more of this kind of thing in the future, most likely. please keep your eyes on utah

I gotta admit, I didn't like Aubrey when she first showed up in the real world. Her snide comments reminded me of my 2nd grade bully and I got unreasonably offended when she called Sunny a psychopath for carrying around a knife - your bat has nails in it!

Of course I grew to love her. She's probably my favorite character after Sunny, maybe tied with Mari. Here are some of my headcanons for her:

She's very femme and very embarrassed about it. When she first joins the Hooligans, she worries that they'll make fun of her for it. Of course that isn't the case :3

Out and proud bisexual with a preference for the ladies

She, Sunny, and Mari gossip together and paint their nails. Aubrey makes Sunny do nail art on hers since he's the only one that can do it (she's not jealous at all. Nope)

Turning to religion helped her a lot after Mari's death. The preacher was a friend of her dad's before he died and never judged her clothes. He because short of a father figure, though she'll never admit it

Yesterday on the crowded roads of Dier al Balah, several people--one of whom was my friend, Mohammad Abu Alwan--carpooled in a vehicle. He was out collecting a transfer from donations, as well as securing food and other supplies. Suddenly the vehicle Mohammad was riding exploded from a bombing--the smoke was suffocating and my friend sustained injuries on his knee, as well as burns on his hands and legs. As you might imagine, this is causing him a lot of pain and discomfort, particularly as he must now continue to find supplies for his family. It’s been three weeks since Mohammad has tasted bread--but these two pieces must be shared between 14 people, the entire family. A single green pepper and a small tomato are the only vegetables to be found in the market of Dier el-Balah.

Please, please continue to donate--it’s the only thing sustaining the Alwan family!! But also please continue being a voice for the people who need you. Thank you so incredibly much, every little bit helps and I can’t overstate the impact everything has had upon this family.
