I'm so glad we finally know who "the strongest" is. That was such a pressing question I always asked myself while reading jjk....

Seriously though, this means absolutely nothing. We already knew that physical power and overwhelming strength don't mean shit in the grand scheme of things. That's the whole point. That's why Yuuji is the main character. Gojo wasn't sealed because Kenjaku is stronger than him. Yuuji beating Mahito didn't bring Nobara, Nanami and Junpei back. The Culling Game didn't just happen because Kenjaku & Uraume were stronger than the sorcerers in Shibuya.

Gojo being The Strongest and more or less beating Sukuna in a fight doesn't solve the real problem, which is the system jujutsu society operates on. Gojo can't just fix that through strength, he is one of it's biggest problems. He's gonna keep the system but appoint people he approves of, which ultimately will breed the same problems that always used to be there. That's not real change.

Not to mention that you will never have an equal society when you have someone who can just forcefully restructure it, since there is no one who can speak up against or impede him. Gojo is the strongest, he is part of a reincarnating line of powerful sorcerers directly linked to and designed to protect Tengen and he is the head of one of the most influential big clans, the only one left at that. He's part of the problem. He needs to die or be severely depowered and lose the six eyes or all this will have been for nothing. Give it a few decades and you would be right where you left off because "putting the right people in place" won't solve anything if the system is fucked. Having a handful of powerful and physically strong people in charge and dictating the lives of all other sorcerers in Japan is never good, no matter how nice the new people up there might be at the moment. Especially terrible if you consider someone like Gakuganji one of the "right people" who should be in power.

y'know, i can pick up a document in portuguese from, say, almost nine hundred years ago, and other than some textual issues regarding the shift in lettering and so on, it's entirely comprehensible. i imagine it's the same for rome's other children as well, more or less.

and it genuinely makes me sad english speakers genuinely cannot have that experience. shakespeare ('early' modern english, ~400 years ago) is inaccessible to readers without being taught how. chaucer (late middle english, a little more than 600 years ago) is lost to the average english speaker. and anything past that might as well be greek.

for all the glut of people who speak english (~1.5 billion people), only the modern age's texts are accessible to them. comparatively, portuguese has maybe 260 million speakers, but we have nearly a millennia of text immediately available to us.

Every time I read posts excusing Shadow and Bone for changing/speeding up SoC and CK elements, I feel like they're missing the main points of criticism a lot of us book fans are having. it's great you enjoyed it!! It's great that you enjoyed seeing the characters in the scenes from the book!! But it IS going to mess up the future narratives!!

I’m not even close to the first person to say this, but technology is getting worse at a frightening rate. It’s gussied up to look better, with fancy graphics and touch screens where user interfaces should go, but I have less and less interactions with technology that don’t end with me frustrated or disgusted. 

Most recently, I had to get a new laptop and it camed prepackaged with Windows 11. Just like anyone else with any sense I’ve been putting off upgrading from ten for months and while I have a good copy of 10 to downgrade to, I just wanted to hop on and start getting some shit done.

Motherfuckers blocked me from running ninite. Not just that, the default is to block any software that doesn’t come from the Microsoft store. The corporations who create technology aren’t just trying to sand off rough edges, they’re trying to flatten everything into a single flat plane and leaving nothing but sawdust behind. 

I know that I could downgrade, or switch to linux or whatever, but that feels like a temporary solution at this point. This is happening everywhere. With Twitter crumbling and facebook blocking ill defined “sensitive” content without recourse, it feels like online habitats are undergoing deforestation. You have to go farther and farther afield to access functionality that was basic and low hanging ten years ago.  How the hell does progress look like walling us all into smaller and smaller walled gardens?

I have no idea how to fix any of this. It feels very much beyond individual action, but I don’t even know how you would organize anything collective to stop it. It just sits on my mind, filling me with despair along with the Canadian smoke darkening the skies, and the resurgent fascism cropping up the world over. 

I wish I could have hope that things will get better, but my entire life has been a confluence of ineptitude, malevolence and commercial interests making things worse. Technology sucks, and just like everything else, it makes me sad.
