The City of the Dead/Horror Hotel (1960)
A movie that takes some very gothic horror concepts and puts them in a more modern setting. Overall decent occult horror tale with witches and cults and rituals that have an almost Lovecraftian feel to them given the premise of academic research leading to greater truths than expected. Just make sure to watch the original version, the US release—Horror Hotel—cuts out important dialogue that was deemed too inappropriate for delicate American ears.
6/10

I've been listening to Rob Zombie's Dragula since before I probably should have I can remember and only just today, the 18th of December in 2023, did I learn that the voice at the beginning of the song that says "superstition, fear, and jealousy" is Christopher fucking Lee from The City of the Dead (1959)
Nobody talk to me. Sorry. I should probably go to sleep.
But I'll probably stay up and watch more old horror movies.

Ingrid wanted to share something nostalgic and simple, The City of the Dead. It's not the scariest, but there's something that makes her feel sentimental, like being a kid wrapped up in a blanket watching Halloween movies in October.
Young college student Nan Barlow arrives in the sleepy Massachusetts town of Whitewood to research witchcraft. I think you can guess what she finds there.
If you prefer, you can even watch it with RiffTrax!
