oh boy !! ! ! ! !!! ! thANK y0u all for the kind words on my last art posts. you all get it and i was/still am so happy about it

as promised, here's some close-ups of the comic for image quality's sake, and other screenshots i rescued from the community whiteboard (and something else)

first up another sketch of mystery gender-ambiguous being. (please send me more name ideas for them if you got one- i like to hear em! (reminder it's the side character that appeared for <10 seconds in AvM Ep. 30))

My 2023 was wild, not in a way that anyone would use the term "wild" except me

#this year i travelled to finland. met a beloved mutual there #next week after that travelled to sweden/denmark (like copenhagen & malmo lol) to meet my old friend (with a recent friend lol)#then like. in spring we had this active/fitness challenege that kind of speed-run developing friendship with my coworkers #that challenge lasted 3 months i think?#also bc of it i went on walks frequently around one pond and was observing day by day a swan pair nesting their eggs until eventually #i saw their babies #also went on a 19km hike and 26km hike during the event that was crazy. swore to never do it again #ALSO participated in a trail running event (6km) and swore to never do it again #then i defended my thesis and gratuated #started thinking about and applying for phd #went on a 3 day roadtrip to lithuania with family and aunts family #following week went on a 3? day roadtrip to poland with coworkers AND FILMED THEIR ENGAGEMENT #i think after that i spent some time in a coastal town to see my cousin (from sweden)#and then her; my sister and me travelled to sweden (again for me!) to bring her back home and to give my sister her first travel with plane #then i got back and got into a phd programme.#broke my car; fixed it; gave it to my sister and bought a new car #buying a new car also was a fun trip with my engaged coworkers (but within country borders and lasted a day)#then my phd studies started and with it a new job #which i realized i should quit 2 weeks in lol #then the end of year was calmer. i did have small trips for like christmas tree igniting in a small town and #coworkers birthday party that was pretty fun #thinking back it really seems wild to me

#'can you add this feature' no its due in 6 hours 'can you move these buttons around' im in the middle of doing something else #literally asked me to stop working on a feature that i was pretty much done programmint and then said 'we dont need it anyways :)'#our group's artist is legit driving me insane like do you want fries with that too?? want me to move the text 2px to the left??#just fucking download unity yourself and do it jfc we have a laundry list of like 10 other things to do #also in almost every game jam i've worked on where i'm programming with another (usually male) programmer-#-when i push something that is FINISHED and DONE occasionally i glance over it after a few more commits and-#-find that the other programmer has decided to completely restructure the code :) and it works exactly the same!#like that's rude right? that's fucking rude and i'm not just a crazy woman about it???????? to rewrite the work someone else ALREADY DID????

#'focus-testing' very much betraying my STEMlord programmer background #and i'm not saying that the other things are unimportant per say #but they're just so badly done #the characters' inability to reflect on the world that they're in in any way just takes a backseat to CRAZY FIC HIJINKS #and i like crazy fic hijinks! as much as i want to develop it i'm not very good at making art #they're fun to write! i like reading little cute fics about characters or whatever #but they require you to *already* be attached to these characters #it's not a good way to construct a story #and they can't consist of mostly fic-tier scenes #(fic-tier not really a judgement on the talent of the writer #but about the sort of scene construction where a character is minimally thrust into some action and everything is tied in a neat little bow)#me.txt #responses #tdp

i fully understand we dont need ultra perfect realism in games but there is a part of my brain. that really likes pretty graphics. there is a part of my brain that sees how raytracing is evolving and giggles in unbridled glee. i adore stylized games more than anything ever (my current favorite games are ultrakill, ffxiv, hollow knight, celeste, and rain world) but MAN.

#the JOY i felt witnessing the pre-rendered cutscenes in ffxvi.#because as a gamer i like stylized art. if i ever end up making a game alone itll probably be stylized. im not a 3d modeller.#im not even really a programmer yet #but as someone who is deeply interested in the marvels of technology and how far weve come. please give me the crazy graphics shit #that would tank a game's fps #show off your hair or your water physics or the individual blades of grass youve rendered #I LOVE WHEN GAMES LOOK GOOD. OKAY.#I LIKED ALL YHE DETAILS IN BG3 EVEN IF THEY MADE THE GAME 112 GB #i love seeing night city in ultra realistic graphics with ray tracing #i love watching a cutscene in ffxvi and being in awe at the amount of detail put into everything #do you know how often i went onto my discord to scream at my friends about how little clipping there was. in scenes where youd expect #ramblings #as a gamer i get the problem but as a tech guy. no no please keep making hyperrealistic graphics

highly considering going out and getting one of those giant foam egg pen grips to see if i can get used to working with one bc im tired of wearing compression gloves for repetitive stress in my hands

#rat rambles #oc posting #splat posting #jim is actually quite invested in memverse stuff much to their own surprise and that only increases over time #since they and mark are dating and live together jim joined mark in helping out with the off the hook world tour and as such jim was forced #to interact with these ppl for the first time and was fully expecting to hate them but actually ended up getting along with marnina after #they learned that shes a crazy good programmer since jim has been spending the past few years learning programming #this lead to marina mentoring her a bit and jim learned abt the memverse project early and got to be mildy involved #I say mildly because jim ultimately isnt That good at programming yet but it made for a good learning opportunity #the knowledge that it could help mark also contributed immensely to jims investment in the project #now she did have a bit of a freak out when things went wrong but everything worked out so she got over it mostly #seeing the fun new gaggle of digital second hand clones made for a great distraction for her as at first it was mostly just rly funny to #her that they even existed to begin with but after seeing that they actually did have at least some semblance of individuality she started #to rly give a shit abt the whole thing and became very interested in figuring out these guys deals and maybe handing them a fidget spinner #this does start to create a bit of a rift between jim and marina due to their tendency assuming the worst of ppl #they felt that smollusk was getting special treatment and that marina would never give a shit abt the others #meanwhile mark is sitting there and going idk dude have you tried. asking her abt it. and jim is like no Id rather die

#ended up in programmer/it twitter lol #i could just use the following tab but i usually don't mind the recommendations and i dont follow enough people there #kcat talks #for context: some linux thing had a backdoor worked into it slowly and they caught it bc one guy was microbenchmarking stuff #and noticed ssh stuff being .5 ms slow and using way too much processing power #so people are like 'woah thats crazy both that the exploit was there and that someone actually noticed it'#.5 sec not .5 ms lol
