rhe original post's replies actually got me into wobbledogs, all of these are VERY different games but they follow the same principle of being weird in some way and having a whole bunch of creature in them. god knows what fucking genre this is. creature freakture.
I think every Speculative Biology-adjacent game needs at least one unnatural/artificial-looking creature that sometimes (but not always) has a different aesthetic to everything else in the game and exists solely makes the player's life hell, e.g the Wraiths from Pikmin, the Warpers from Subnautica, the Servants from The Eternal Cylinder, the Grox from Spore (and, to a lesser extent, the Dronox and Insectrox from Galactic Adventures).
I saw my roommate play some of game The Eternal Cylinder and I can’t stop thinking about it. I think about it least a few times a week if not more.
It’s so fucked up bc the protagonist and his buddies they are just little guys
and a giant unimaginably long and humongous shape is destroying everything on their planet with no way to stop it!!!
So I’m buying it myself bc I gotta see if they find a way to stop it or a way to escape or something…I gotta help them…they are little guys…
I think one reason I feel so distraught over these guys is bc it’s actually not too far off from nightmares I had a lot as a kid even a bit into adulthood-> a giant thing is after me and all I can do is run. I’m too small and it’s too large/fast/deadly.
Also bc the existential empathetic dread I feel from the idea of being destroyed by a giant apathetic shape is incredibly acute.
visuals (scenery in particular) are pmuch an instant 10/10
i love this stuff 😭
music's really got a vibe too
overall i think i need to spend more time with it to really form an opinion, but i'm definitely intrigued
my one halfway complaint for the moment:
i have such a huge weakness for surreal games with no dialog that i was a bit disappointed to discover that the game had a narrator
it gave me enough of a Paper Beast vibe that i was kinda hoping for complete silence lol
A little WIP update on my Whegome sculpture. It's going quite slowly this time, since I've been busy with some other stuff and honestly don't feel as inspired as before. But I don't like leaving my projects unfinished so I'm still trying to find some time and motivation to continue working on this model.
