Mirror Force Dragon

In fusing with Mirror Force, Critias has decided to go metal (and a little insectoid). I can't get over how they turned his fangs into what are effectively mandibles. I doubt they move, so they probably aren't useful for anything, but they're still interesting nonetheless. There's an insane amount of detail in his new, segmented/armored body, even on places like his thighs (which look kinda like they're cracking apart, which is cool). But of course, the real star of the show here is his four(!) wings that hold Mirror Force's power (and blueish appearance). The main wings alone are nice (I do like the arrowhead spikes along the bottom), but I'm wondering if the second, sail-like set was even necessary to include. The shape is definitely interesting for a dragon's wings, but this guy would probably still look good without them.

Rating: 9/10, Critias, but they put him into the movie Alien.

Come out, Critias! Pt. 3/3

[It's Seto's final turn. He doesn't have anything in his deck that can save him now...

However, upon touching the card he will draw, Kaiba's mind and spirit are transported somewhere else.]

Seto floats above two frozen dragon statues, in a large, intricate room that he doesn't recognize. Drawn to one by some unseen force, Seto gazes at the sword lodged into the great dragon's throat.

"I must be hallucinating... Am I supposed to remove the sword? What is this, an Arthurian myth?" Seto mutters to himself, incredulous, as he moves to take its hilt in hand. The sword gives with little effort, sliding free of the cracking ice, which shatters off of the dragon only a moment later. It roars in triumph, then looks at Seto expectantly, eyes shining with intelligence.

Seto's eyes meet its, and widen in shock.

"...How do I-? I know you." He floats forward, and places his hand on its dark snout. "Your name... is Critias."

[A bright light overwhelms the man, who is suddenly back in the Duel, about to draw.

"Well? Are you going to take your turn? Or have you realized you can't win, Kaiba?" Alister calls at Seto, hand on his hip confidently.

"SHUT UP! You don't know who you're messing with!!" Shouts Mokuba from behind Seto, banging on the barrier between them created by the Seal.

"That's enough, Mokuba," Seto shushes his brother. Alister laughs.

But Alister can't see the card under Seto's fingers glowing.

Without his usual dramatic flair, Seto draws- it's a card he's never seen before, and looks just like the dragon in his vision. It doesn't exist in his deck! But he knows its power, somehow... Kaiba stares at it a moment, then nods, as if to the dragon depicted.

"I use the Fang of Critias!" Seto holds the card aloft, and it glows with the effect of an activated spell.

"What?!" Alister leans on his side of the duel ring with both hands, incredulous and shocked. "But you don't have that card!!"

Seto laughs at the boy, triumphant. "I do now! Fang of Critias merges with my set Trap card: Crush Card Virus!"

"But you can't merge a trap card with a monster?!"

"Well, I just did! That's the effect of Fang of Critias!" Kaiba casts his hand out, as if showing off a new exhibit. "Behold, Doom Virus Dragon!"

The monster roars, manifested on the field, dwarfing Alister's monsters.

"And Doom Virus Dragon's effect destroys every other monster on the field with an attack of fifteen-hundred or higher!"

Doom Virus Dragon releases a blast greater than even Blue-Eyes White Dragon's Burst Stream, shattering all of the monsters on Alister's side of the field and leaving him with only a single face-down card for defense.

"Go! Doom Virus Dragon! Attack Alister directly!!" Kaiba points his direction to the dragon, who charges up its devastating beam, releasing its fury on Alister- "It's game over!"

"I activate my set spell: Contagion of Madness!" Alister casts his hand out, flipping the spell card. It deals half of the directly attacking monster's ATK to its controller, simultaneously to the battle damage it will inflict upon its target.

Seto's LP: 0

The duel ends in a draw, releasing both men from the Seal and flinging Seto back against Mokuba, who falls under his older brother's weight.

"From the darkness of the opposite hall, cut off by the duel ring, the Kaibas hear Alister's voice as he retreats, "This isn't over, Kaiba! I'll be back- and you'll pay for what your father did to me!"

Seto stands, brushing himself off, then helps Mokuba to his feet. He stares at the mysterious new card in his hand: The Fang of Critias.]

YU-GI-OH! 5D’s — RAIN ORICHALCUM

DECKS! Rain once had her archetype of choice countered in tournament, so she swaps decks often thanks to the lingering paranoia.

I mainly did it so I could give a lot of variety to the duels and give love to both 5D’s era and older decks that don’t get to appear in the anime! There are a handful of original cards, but I’ll go over those later. First, introducing a nice collage of ace monsters/cards representing her archetypal decks!

She uses a Blue-Eyes mixed with good dragon cards as her “primary” deck and I ABSOLUTELY made an original line of Synchros: Orichalcos Dragon/Orichalcos Deuteros Dragon/Orichalcos Tritos Dragon :o) Also, because she has the anime-esque Timaeus, Hermos, and Critias cards, we get to see a lot of neat fusions! Like Hermos + Exploder Dragon, for example, making an equip spell that prevents destruction by battle, destroys the monster it battled with, but prevents battle damage

The Crimson Dragon card didn’t exist when I wrote my series, so I made my own 😂 YES they get attack and effect names! YES the characters yell them out! YES I had so much fun with this The Crimson Dragon 8-Star, LIGHT Attribute [Dragon/Synchro/Effect] [2500 ATK / 2000 DEF] 1 LIGHT Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monster(s) When this card is Special Summoned: you can target one of your opponent’s monsters. As long as this card is on the field, that monster’s effect is negated. (Ability Name: Crimson Masquerade) When this card battles a monster targeted by this effect, during the Damage Step only, this card gains ATK equal to the ATK of the targeted monster. (Ability Name: Crimson Star Flight) At your End Phase, you can send this card to the graveyard; special summon it during your next Standby Phase. (Ability Name: Crimson Molting) and a good old season 2 leveled up version of him! Rain tossed her head back. A crack of lightning lit her grin.

“I am not running.”

Fire blazed to life. Orange sparks licked the air. Water hissed against flame, and steam flooded the ground. I shielded my eyes from the blaze with my forearm. The flames spurted from the earth itself and raced around the port in a circle. I shouted, “Rain!”

“No use,” Syd said. “She’s gotta be burning alive by now, and thanks to her own psychic powers.”

My brow furrowed. The way the fire had come to life was similar to a night of war several months ago. This blaze wasn’t causing destruction, though. The memory gave birth to a mad idea.

I stretched my arm towards the flames. Fire licked my fingers. Instead of raw pain, a kind warmth found me – one I had known before. I glanced out from the awning and up to the sky. The red flare reflected against the black clouds: the full glyph of the Crimson Dragon.

Rain dropped to her knees among the flames. They clung to her skin, hair, and clothes without leaving scars. Maroon marks on her pale face, shoulders, and arms pulsed with a bright, red glow like a slow heartbeat. Fangs protruded from her kind smile. Her hands clasped together. Rain said, “White Stone of Legend tunes with Horus LV8 and Exploder Dragon. With one LIGHT tuner and two monsters, I call upon the legendary power of old.”

The flames leapt from the ground and spiraled into a pillar from her place of prayer. Cinders sparkled around her, leapt towards her duel disk, and formed a white-hot rectangle. A trio of humongous green rings formed as a column towards the sky. Their color tinged red. Rain’s eyes shot open, and their irises shifted to crimson. Her whisper echoed across the bay like the shouts of thousands. “Synchro Summon: Akakiryu of the Sacred Flame.”

A tornado of pure flames ripped to life on the pier. Gold and red blended like a blazing autumn. Black clouds scattered, and rainwater evaporated. Fiery wings extended from the twister. A lengthy, skinny tail whipped from the phenomena, and the fire scattered from the dragon’s body. Akakiryu opened its mouth, revealing a bright, yellow tongue matching the startling color of its eyes.

Rain pushed to her feet, reached out her fist, and lifted her index finger. “Ability one. Upon summoning, all of your spells and traps are destroyed. Ignite the Sacred Flame!”

The blaze returned to the earth, tearing through Syd’s backline. The remaining Block Dugout and Nightmare Wheel shattered. Rain’s Blue-Eyes White Dragon was freed from its torture. Syd said, “So what? A fancy light show don’t mean nothin’. You got 3000 attack, which don’t match up. Even if it did, Beelzeus here can’t be destroyed.”

Rain extended her middle finger. “Ability two. By deducting 1000 attack from Akakiryu, I banish one monster on the field. Beelzeus is judged not fit for this world by the strength of a god.”

“Not so fast!” Syd said. “I discard Effect Veiler from my hand to negate your monster’s abilities!”

Rain’s ring finger popped up. “Ability three. Once per turn, I negate an ability that targets Akakiryu and banish the offender. Sacred Cinder Disarmament!”

Akakiryu spit a flare into the sky. It landed on the ghostly Effect Veiler, locking it in a fiery bubble. The sphere closed to crush the monster. Rain said, “Ability two continues! To Sacred Ashes!”

Beelzeus shied back from the intense heat of Akakiryu. The dragon flapped its wings forward. A pair of flame tornadoes approached Beelzeus. The twisters spun around the black dragon. Beelzeus attempted to flee the encroaching fire to no avail. The tornadoes captured Syd’s Synchro. Their ferocity enticed a pained roar from Beelzeus. Akakiryu’s attack spiraled faster before dissipating with nary a whisper.

“Shit,” Syd said, “the hell kinda card is that?”

I found the strength to stand. “A dragon who does not lose.”

“Akakiryu’s current attack is 2000,” Rain said, “equal to your remaining life points. Direct attack! Blazing Crimson Flight!”

Akakiryu unfurled its wings. A golden flare danced to the tips. The dragon’s cry deafened the quaking thunder. Akakiryu dove onto Syd and skimmed the ground, leaving the bay ablaze. His holler could barely be heard over the roar of the flames.

A slice caught my attention. Akakiryu cut down my runner and held it in his two claws. He lowered it to sit on its wheel beside Rain and curled around her. Black ashes from the destroyed monsters clung to her sweaty skin. Her criminal mark glowed with the golden reflection of Akakiryu’s light through the dirt.

Rain beamed at the glowing monster. She leapt towards its snout and wrapped her arms around it. I was taken aback. Instead of worshipper and god, she embraced Akakiryu like a daughter to a father. Much to my surprise, the dragon shut its eyes and leaned into it.

With a chuckle, I said, “Welcome home.”

Figured I would reply to this with a certain other earlier moment involving Shun/Shay.

THIS! This one moment from Episode 34,represented the exact point where Arc V turned from “standard fair” to “Amazing Tier!” (at least until Synchro arc and the production issues kneecapped it later onwards). Of course I am referring to Shun’s SECOND RUM in the same duel to evolve and Summon Revolution FalconThe music, “Evolving Falcon” is perhaps one of, if not right the most epic piece of Yugioh Music and is right up there with “Fang of Critias” as one of the all time greats to go with this GOAT of a scene!

This music is the tip of how awesome this one duel finisher is! For one, Sora finally snapping and revealing his true colors (at least until Synchro Dimension rolled it back XP). This is when the role of the other dimensions got real. Shit got serious yo! Shun and Raidraptors quickly flew (pun intended lol) to the top of my favorite Arc V character list. Granted thats probably the Zexal/Xyz “Scum” fan within me speaking. But still.

I kept on replaying this scene on YT over and over JUST to hear this treat to my ears. (At least until we finally got it on the 3rd and sadly last Sound Duel for Arc V).

And Shun’s speech and oath to get Ruri/Lulu back, accompanied by the buildup to the main part of this music. Then the track bursting in response to a SECOND Rankup Magic from Shun (in the same episode none the less!) It is a true beauty to watch

Seeing Sora get nuked and crushed is satisfying, yet shocking. Sora and his “pals” never showed mercy to Kurosaki’s Xyz Comrades. Neither did Shun. Hell he probably wouldve carded Sora right then and there had it not been for Reiji leashing ihim in.

Everything that happens from that point on. The escalation of the stakes of Arc V’s dimension hopping storyline. The impending threat of Academia and the Obelisk Force. It all starts with this Act of Rebellion.

4. Favorite season/story arc

◇ Answered here, but my second favorite arc is probably the manga memory world just because of how the plot finally gives a bunch of answers and I liked a lot of the ancient characters.

22. Least favorite character

The pervy nephew of Honda in the manga and the creepy penguin dude from the Noah arc.

Okay, other than those two which I don't really consider full characters--probably Rex or Weevil? I don't dislike them I just don't think they were that funny once they took over the comedic relief role in a lot of things so I just kinda forget they exist most of the time.

26. Favorite YGO music (aside from openings/endings)

Original anime wise definitely Fang of Critias! Sub wise Kaiba had a theme I think but it really didn't seem to reflect him very well from what I remember. Fang of Critias always felt like his true theme to me. I don't know enough music theory to explain why but it sounds triumphant and powerful so it's fitting to me. Though God's Anger and Passionate Duelist are close seconds!

DSoD I tracks I feel like I gotta rank different since it was a movie budget and all that-- so my favorite from that is Termination. It just feels very sad and emotional and very powerful. I remember before the film got out of Japan I listened to the soundtrack and of course couldn't help but speculate what track was for what moments. My guess for this track was entirely wrong, it goes to one of Diva's scenes instead of Atem, but by the title and whatnot I thought it was going to be Kaiba terminating whatever connection or whatnot he used to temporarily bring Atem back once he realized it couldn't last, so I'm biased because of that, lol. All the re-arrangements of original tracks are awesome too, Passionate Duelist and God's Anger re-arranged are almost the same as the originals just more orchestral and turned up to eleven. I guess it got taken down from this playlist but I love Preist Seto Re-arranged too. It's barely 40 seconds but says a lot, it's the track that plays when Kaiba reaches Atem's dimension and really isn't a 're-arrangement' at all since it sounds totally different from the original Preist Seto theme but it just has that feeling of over a grueling journey two people who connected over a rivalry are reunited for another good game and that just makes me happy c:

What headcanons do you have for Critias and Hermos?

Only have a few maybe sorta?? lol I really disliked the waking dragons arc so I try to make it more enjoyable for myself with stupid silly things. ie hermos & critias having the opposite dynamic of kaijou. I imagine all 3 legendary knights are childhood friends/rivals?

Despite critias looking exactly like kaiba I think it'd be pretty cute if he was the crybaby of the group growing up & a biter ( since the card is the fang of critias ) which is pretty cornered beastly thing to do so he'd prob get picked on by hermos who probably fights with a little more finesse & uses his claws when in dragon form? which is also ironic in itself when he looks like jounouchi?

Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon

The Critias x Tyrant Wing fusion is funny because its usage asks the question "is it its own separate fusion monster or is it like an equipable trap card?" The dub treats it like the former, which then results in this monster's formation through fusion. It's really neat how well they fused Blue-Eyes' details with Critias', right down to Critias' fangs becoming an extension of the fin-like projections on the side of Tyrant Dragon's head. There's also the more obvious forehead jewel, tail end shape, and spiked nature of the scales on its head and neck. A weird and unfortunate side effect here though is that any upper body mass this dragon had seems to have shifted straight into its legs for some reason. I mean, the arms on both component dragons are kinda skinny to begin with, but they definitely don't have tiny chest syndrome going on, so I can't really say what happened there. As cool as the Tyrant Wing glow effect is, it also makes the wings look disconnected from this monster in particular. Maybe its because the background has a similar color palette going on, or it might just be because they're so different from how the wings on Blue-Eyes look.

// Okay so, I do plan to get into a lot more details about this new addition to Critias’ doc. For now, have a quick run down about what I’ve changed on him:

Atlantis is no longer meant to be set around over 10000 years in the past. Instead, they are supposed to be set around 3000 years in the past (around the same time setting as the AE folks). I understand why, the show made this decision in the first place. They probably didn’t want to affect the story’s flow, which was still being worked on at the time. On top of serving as further reinforcement, to it being a self-contained story;

Atlantis and Egypt get into a war, Critias (alongside with Timaeus and Hermos) took the role of generals during the conflict. This is meant to take place about one year prior to the World of Memory’s arc, and it ends in Egypt’s favor. This event is canon in my Set and Atem’s stories.

I'm well aware of how big these changes are to the character’s story, and I don’t expect anyone else to follow/do something similar to me. I’ll obviously be happy to have others, join me in it but it isn’t necessary! As such, I’m willing to just follow the canon, according to my partner’s wishes.

I will never forgive 4Kids/Kids WB for spoiling Joey's loss to Mai in season 4 of Yu-Gi-Oh via AN AD FOR SEASON 4. Fucking bastards.
