ok, @posthumanwanderings asked me about my favourite simple 2000 games, and it'd be easier to format this as a text post than as a private message. so here it is:
vol 37: the shooting ~double shienryu~ - released in europe as steel dragon ex, this is the excellent arcade shooting game shienryu, along with a newly-made sequel. the ps1 port has a ton of weird extras, but this port has a whole sequel.
vol 50: the daibijin - released in europe as demolition girl, this is about attacking the supermodel riho futaba, who has become kaiju sized, for some reason. contains the iconic phrase "breast acquisition data". when it came out here, it had some brief infamy as one of the games unfunny hacks would play and exaggerate how bad it was, for the purposes of alleged "comedy"
vol 64: the splatter action - released in europe as splatter master, it's a cute, gory beat em up, in which you control a little pumpkin man with chainsaws
vol. 73: the saiyuutou saruden - possibly released in europe as monkey king, but i'm not sure if it actually happened. i wrote about it here
vol 81: the chikyuu boueigun 2 - released in europe as global defence force, i'm sure you all know what this is. iconic, era-defining, one of the best games on the entire ps2, not just in the simple series. i'm not joking.
vol. 95: the zombie vs kyuukyuusha - released in europe as zombie vs ambulance, it's post-apocalyptic horror crazy taxi with boss fights. you'll probably get bored after a few stages at most, but the novelty of it is compelling for a while at least.
vol. 101: the oneechanpon ~the neechan 2 tokubetsu-hen~ - the early musou-style oneechanbara games are rough to go back to compared to the more modern character action-style games, but if you're going to play any of them, this is probably the most interesting. it's got a bunch of guest characters from other simple 2000 games!
vol. 104: the robot tsukuuruze ~gekitou robot fight!~ i wrote about this one here
vol. 105: the maid fuku to kikanjuu - a beat em up where you play as a heavily-armed maid killing evil dolls and shit
vol. 112: the tousou highway 2 ~road warrior 2050~ - i wrote about this one here

Overview
About
Onee Chanbara Origin is a complete HD remake with all new art style graphics and optimized storytelling, combining both The Onechanbara and The Onechanbara 2 games, which were originally released for PlayStation 2 in 2004 and 2005. Now featuring all renewed main character designs, redesigned by main character Onechanbara series designer Katsumi Enami, Onee Chanbara Origin tells a new interpretation of the story of the two half-sisters, Aya and Saki, bound by mutual hatred and locked in a brutal fight to the death, eventually overcoming their cruel fate and fighting alongside one another to find their father in this high-speed action-adventure hack ‘n slash game series.
Onee Chanbara Origin follows the zombie-hunters, Aya and Saki’s fate into destroying each other and leads into the second of the series, The Onechanbara 2. After the sisters overcome their cruel fate in killing one another, they overcome their rivalry against one another and ally together to depart on their journey of finding their father, Oboro, after he leaves behind a message that names “Eva” as the mastermind behind his wife’s death and all of the chaos that ensued between the two sisters, including the vice that made Saki insane and hell-bent on avenging her mother. Little do they know they are coming even closer to the truth and their true enemy.
Play as a zombie hunter and battle through the stages with high-speed real-time swordplay, completing objectives and tasks while hacking and brawling through hordes of the Undead. Each character’s weapons become progressively covered in blood as players fight off zombies in gruesome detail. Occasionally, players may even transform into demons for short bursts of added power and energy with the downside cost of life energy. Each zombie hunter has her own unique abilities, and skillful play is rewarded for cooler combinations. Players can enjoy the game with full English voice-acting or play through with the original Japanese performances with English subtitles.
Key Features
Cel shaded graphics reminiscent of Japanese animation.
Exhilarating feel from cutting down hordes of zombies with a katana.
Gore effects with decapitations, dismemberments, and even cutting torsos in half.
A novice-friendly system that allows combos to rack up just with simple tap of a button.
A system called the “Cool Combination” system for advanced players. This requires exact timing to connect combos but with an added bonus of massive flexibility. Provides enjoyment for players of all skill levels.
When blood splatters from enemies on to your character, you can change forms into “Berserk” or “Xtatic” to help you defeat powerful enemies like bosses.
I’m trying to save up money for Super Mario Odyssey (and probably the wedding Bowser amiibo even though I don’t really need it) but I saw this really tempting flea market on my way home and I ended up grabbing these
Simple 2000 Series Vol. 91: The All*Star Kakutou Matsuri (the sub-title loosely translated to "The All*Star Fighting Festival") is a comedic 2.5D fighting game developed by Digital Zero and published by D3 for the PlayStation 2 in Japan on December 15, 2005. It was later localized in Europe as All-Star Fighters and released by Essential on March 23, 2007.
Part of the Simple 2000 series of budget games, All-Star Fighters features numerous characters and locales from the rest of the series.

Onee Chanbara Origin is both a remake of the first two games and a proper introduction to the classic hack 'n' slash series.
Onee Chanbara Origin Takes you Back to the Beginning
Depending on where you live, Onee Chanbara Origin could be a completely different experience. For fans in Japan, it’s a remake of two classics from the PlayStation 2 era. For fans in North America, it’s a proper introduction to the series. The OneeChanbaraseries has a solid history but gamers in North America didn’t get the chance to enjoy…

■ Aya and Saki’s Father, Oboro (voiced by Rikiya Koyama)
A sudden reunion.
Aya and Saki’s father, and master swordsman. He works as an assassin, and has trained Aya in swordsmanship since she was young. It seems that there was once a time where he worked alongside his wife Tsubaki in order to destroy an organization that uses Baneful Blood. Oboro was the father who disappeared after learning about the death of Tsubaki… but upon reuniting with his beloved daughter Aya, who was in pursuit of Saki, he seemed to be in an unusual state. He says that his daughter Aya is Tsubaki’s enemy, and then suddenly attacks her.
A father who lost his sanity and attacks his daughter.
After reuniting with his daughter, Oboro lost his sanity. Aya had no choice but to return fire. The battle with her father was a battle of Baneful assassins.
At the end of the battle, Oboro tells Aya the full sequence of events thus far. He went on a journey on his own to take revenge on Tsubaki’s enemies, and was finally able to find out the identity of the person pulling the strings. However, Saki, who was captured by that person, is trying to dig up and resurrect Tsubaki’s remains. Additionally, Oboro has lost control of his Baneful blood and faces daily lacks of sanity, and thus should not live much longer. The tragic Oboro tells Aya that the name of the person pulling the strings is Eva. He also tells her another shocking truth revealed for the first time. And finally, he says to “protect Saki…”
■ Zombie Bosses Sayaka and Anzu
Among the many enemies that appeared in the original The Onechanbara and The Onechanbara 2 were the popular high school sister zombies Sayaka and Anzu. Some fans called them “The Claw and the Iron Ball.” They were even resurrected as enemy characters in Onechanbara Z2: Chaos. Of course, although they are zombies, these somehow lovable girls who can talk like humans will be even cuter this time around.
Sayaka (voiced by Minami Muta)
Anzu’s elder sister, and originally a Baneful girl. Thanks to a secret art of Eva, the person pulling the strings, she was resurrected as a zombie. She is loyal to Eva’s commands and waits in the closed ward to kill Aya. She has superhuman strength even among the Banefuls, and wields a huge iron ball as her weapon. She forever regrets that Anzu died while she was alive, and now that she is resurrected, she is happy to spend her days with Anzu again. She has a strong sense of errand and responsibility as an older sister, and (even though they are already dead) she wants to keep Anzu alive from the bottom of her heart.
She enjoys karaoke, has an unnatural disposition to destroy machinery whenever she sees it, and never sings a song through to the end. Anzu calls her “Sis.”
Anzu (voiced by Minami Muta)
Sayaka’s younger sister. A Baneful girl resurrected as a zombie by the secret art of the same Eva that resurrected Sayaka. She is equipped with large claws, and mangles her enemies with agile movement. While she seems to be following Eva’s orders to “kill Aya,” she has an intense hunge and is secretly distancing herself from Sayaka to eat away at the flesh and blood of zombies.
Unlike Sayaka, she has almost no memories from when she was alive, but she has solid memory when it comes to Sayaka. For that reason, she is just as spoiled by her older sister as she was when she was alive, and calls her “Sis” in admiration of her superhuman strength. While she wants to wield an iron ball like her sister, she has never been able to due to her own lack of power.
■ The Battle Between Sisters
Aya bursts into the underground temple in which Saki lives. Saki is there awaiting her arrival. Saki tells her she will use her heart to resurrect her dead mother. Aya asks her what value there is in a mother resurrected as a monster. But Saki will not listen to her. And with that, the battle of the best swordsmen of the Baneful clan begins…
Is conflict the fate of the Baneful?
The episode that corresponds to the climax of the original The Onechanbara is the battle between sisters Aya and Saki. What awaits beyond the bloody battle of these Baneful sisters? Will Aya be able to protect and rescue her younger sister Saki, who is trying to kill her, like her father expects? Or what kind of existence is Eva, who is pulling the strings behind the scenes?
■ Theme Song
The official theme song for Onechanbara Origin is “Aihaki Minomono” by the screaming idol unit Broken By The Scream.
