We sat in near darkness, with only the soft sounds of combs and silky fabrics, interspersed with Kanzaki’s sniffles. I could see what I was doing well enough, and when I looked up to check on Tsuyuri, she was absorbed in carefully parsing out a knot as gently and nimbly as only little angel hands could. I needed to strain my vision a bit, while Tsuyuri could see. By the time we finished, Kanzaki could sit up no longer and fell against Tsuyuri.
