Super Famicom - Shin Kidoh Senki Gundam Wing: Endless Duel
Title: Shin Kidoh Senki Gundam Wing: Endless Duel / ę°ę©åę¦čØć¬ć³ćć W(ć¦ć¤ć³ć°): ENDLESS DUEL
Developer: Natsume
Publisher: Bandai
Release date: 29 March 1996
Catalogue Code: SHVC-AEDJ-JPN
Genre: 2D Fighting
Gundam Wing was the first Anime that I watched that was not kid-focused like Dragon Ball Z or Pokemon.Ā When I saw it on TV, I was blown away by how amazing the robots were, how cool the art was, and how it blended war drama with awesome space combat.Ā How cool would it be to play a game where these giant robots could battle each other?! Little did I know that in Japan, a Super Famicom game was released that allowed this very thing. It is a crying shame it never saw a Stateside release.... that is until this very game got an English fan translation. Nice!
The game does a poor job of explaining what the actual story is ā mainly because it is in Japanese (which is a language that I do not speak), but it doesnāt really matter because giant awesome-looking mechs are fighting each other all over the place.Ā This is a fighting game built around the design of Street Fighter 2 or maybe Super Street Fighter 2, perhaps?Ā Players select their own giant robot to do battle with against one another. There are a total of 10 robots to do battle with, with each one having unique button combinations to do special moves. In addition, they also have different stats like speed, defense, power, and weapon strength. I played many of the characters and they all felt quite different with lots of cool moves for each.
In terms of controls, each mech has a strong and weak punch, and a strong and weak weapon attack. Each mech also has a counter of 300 power below its life bar which shows how much backup energy for attacks they have. Power attacks take between 100 and 200 power, and shooting a machine-gun-like attack takes it down one at a time. Without this power, you cannot do all the cool fancy destructiveĀ moves. It gained be regained though! If you block or use regular attacks, it will refill, and you can unleash some new devastating attacks. There is one last cool feature ā you can jetĀ around in your mech! While mechs are somewhat sluggish, if you hit two buttons at once (I think strong punch and strong weapon) plus a direction, you can jet in any direction. Whatās even cooler is that do a second jet at the end of your first, so you can jet up, then towards your enemy, and do a dropkick on his head all in one attack. This ability really made me feel like I was fighting in a mech!
While there is the traditional arcade mode where you battle against the computer against all ten mechs, the main fun of thisĀ game really is the awesome multiplayer. There are no special options, but it is just a blast bashing each other into the ground! In terms of graphics, this is one of the most beautiful 2D games that I have ever seen. The animations are smooth and there is little to no slowdown! I donāt know how they did it, but they did! The special attacks and beam swords all look great too, and the set pieces for each level really help to see the scale of how large these machines actually are! In terms of music, this game also dominates. IĀ canāt countĀ how many times I looped the intro song when writing this review. Most if not all of the songs help produceĀ a sci-fi war atmosphere that suits this style of game. The sound effects also make it even more satisfying to pummel your friends into the ground.
Next to Street Fighter Zero 2 and maybe the SFC version of Fatal Fury Special and World Heroes, this is my favorite fighting game on the SFC. Itās beautiful, fun, and has giant mechs that battle each other! With a bunch of pals over, this game is endlessly replayable. While the game was never released stateside, there are numerous game sites that produce reproductions of the game.Ā

13, 27, 33
EDIT: tried to post these before but apparently I drafted it instead. Whoops. Sorry @bounding-heartā!Ā
Saving 13 for last because then I can put it behind a Read More for spoiler reasons!Ā
27. Top 5 brotps
These were the first ones that came to mind and Iām kinda sad there arenāt any female friendship BrOTPs on the list, but Iām tired and I canāt be bothered to wrack my head for any more.
1.Ā Donna & Ten (Doctor Who)Ā They have to this day remained one of my favourite TARDIS teams. Theyāre an absolute joy to watch together, even in episodes I donāt like that much. Iāll forever be sad about how it all ended - somewhere out there Iām sure thereās a timeline where they really did end up traveling together forever. Also, Catherine Tate and David Tennant together anywhere are an absolute powerhouse.Ā
2. Tealāc & Jack OāNeill (Stargate SG-1)Ā I think one of Stargateās strongest suits have always been how they truly managed to build believable relationships and specifically friendships (and found family) over the course of the show. And the relationship between Jack and Tealāc is definitely evidence of that. Theyāre just so good together, and they care so much about each other. The moment Tealāc proves where his loyalties are and OāNeill is immediately going to stand by him through everything, because thatās the kind of person Jack is. And likewise for Tealāc, heād do anything for OāNeill. They have such a unique understanding of each other, and I honestly think itās one of the strongest relationships in the show.Ā
3. Greed & Ling (Fullmetal Alchemist)This is one of those relationships where I kind of read it multiple ways depending on what mood Iām in, but for now, letās come at it from the BrOTP angle. A lot of the best relationships that I love are about people who improve each other in different ways, and compliment each other, especially in BrOTPs. These two certainly do. Theyāre also surprisingly similar in many ways, and they push each other to be the best versions of themselves (which takes a bit longer for Greed than it does for Ling, but he gets there in the end).Ā
4. Sam & Daniel (Stargate SG-1)Ā I did say Stargate has some strong friendships, didnāt I? So they get TWO entries on this list. I know, a little unfair, but itās my list, so my rules. Sam and Daniel are like, almost literally siblings in my eyes. They bicker like siblings, take care of each other like siblings and they support each other like it as well. I wish the show had shown their friendship even more honestly, but itās one of my favourites to explore in fanfics and such. Also, I will forever be bitter about the fact that Sam is the only one who didnāt get a visit from Ascended Daniel. #Rude
5. Lee and Iorek (His Dark Materials)Sometimes, a family is a man, a hare and a bear in a balloon, alright? Look, we donāt get much of these in the original book, though even the little we get always point out how much they care about each other. And then we got an entire book ONLY DEDICATED TO THEIR AWESOME FRIENDSHIP. Considering how difficult it is to win a bearās trust, imagine how hard it is to gain a bearās friendship and loyalty. Leeās special like that. Even if Iorek has his own special way of honouring it.Ā
33. Top 5 episodes
Of everything ever?! Well, thatās not difficult or anything. Here I actually gave myself the rule of one episode per show. Because otherwise itās IMPOSSIBLE.Ā
1. Black Sails 4x09Yes, the Black Sails finale is amazing, and nearly took this spot. But in many ways its the epilogue to what actually culminates in this penultimate episode. Everything happens in, constantly. It does not let you rest, because even when things are still, youāre worried about the character. Itās a masterfully written, directed and acted episode, across the board, and one of the strongest episodes the show has - though it of course has the benefit of building on everything that came before it.
2.Ā Heaven Sent - Doctor WhoI knew this was going to be on the list. My absolute favourite episode from one of my absolute favourite shows. Like the episode above, itās brilliantly written, directed and acted - except the acting is done by a single person. And yes, this is one of those episodes I can watch over and over again and still enjoy it just as much if not more than the first time. As Rachel Talalay said - itās poetry in the form of an episode, and I think that goes for all three of those aspects (acting, writing, directing). The music is also incredible. It has it all - as well as for me one of the most compelling emotional hooks in Doctor Who.Ā
3. Hard Times - Good OmensThis might only be on here for recency reasons, but bear with me. I thought I knew just what to expect from the Good Omens TV show. This episode certainly threw me for a loop in the best possible way. While I canāt really speak quality wise, itās definitely my favourite episode of the show, and no, not only because Iām a massive shipper, though thatās certainly a part of it. I just also love creative story telling and television making, and this episode does both. Having the intro halfway into the episode? Brilliant, love it. Juxtaposing their growing friendship with the break-up at the end? Great. Also period costumes. Period costumes everywhere.Ā
4. Meridian - Stargate SG-1Itās certainly not the best episodes of Stargate, and I donāt even know if I can say itās my absolute favourite at any given time, but itās definitely an episode that had and has a huge emotional impact on me, and one I keep returning to even when it breaks my heart. I do think the acting in it is superb, and itās a wonderful closure for a character (which also opens up to new possibilities). But how it makes me cry.
5. Sakura and the Final Judgment - Cardcaptor SakuraI knew I wanted some kind of anime in here, but itās difficult. Anime have shorter episodes, their storyline endings or build-ups usually play out over multiple episode. I couldnāt pick just one FMAB episode, Iād have to pick ten if I wanted to represent a full part of the story. But I wanted to have one, and so I took another one that had a huge impact on me. That is the season finale of s2 of Cardcaptor Sakura, and really, theĀ āendā of that part of the story. Sakura cheering herself on in the face of failure, herself coming to support her, her using herĀ āspellā of simply saying that everything will be alright, because of how much she believes that. Letās just say this one hits home a lot, and it encapsulates so many of the reasons why CCS has meant so much to me.Ā Ā
Honorable mention: Probably something from the upcoming HBO show, I can already say that with confidence.Ā
ALRIGHT, TOP 5 DEAD CHARACTERS COMING UP. Will contain spoilers for: Harry Potter, xxxHolic, Fullmetal Alchemist, The Book Thief.Ā
13. Top 5 dead characters
1. Albus Dumbledore - Harry PotterNo matter what people might think of Dumbledore, fact remains that I have never cried as much or as long for the death of a fictional character. I do love him, flaws and all, and when he died, I was literally inconsolable for the entire evening. My dad read that chapter to me and had to sit and like hug me for an hour or something. I was bawling. I know weāre not ranking top death scenes or anything, but I think not even I was prepared for how strongly I was going to react to it, but it does indicate how much that character meant, and still means to me.Ā
2. Van Hohenheim - Fullmetal AlchemistĀ While on the subject of Problematic Father Figures, hereās one more. God, Hohenheim makes me cry. Just. Everything about him. He tries so hard where it really matters and still he canāt quite seem to get there. He was, in so many ways, a tragic victim of circumstance, who never thought heād learn to love again. I have so many headcanons about him and Trisha, but honestly, what we get from them is absolutely phenomenal on its own. And in the end, he could be there for his boys, even if he couldnāt keep his promise to Trisha. I have a soft spot for immortal characters who end up finding the will to live again through fleeting human lives, alright? (Also, Hohenheim suffers from glasses flare syndrome, where even if heās crying or happy, no one will know because of his impenetrable anime glare).Ā
3.Ā Severus Snape - Harry PotterYes, yes, I know, problematic character, yadda yadda. Donāt want to hear it right now, alright? Tired of having to dedicate an entire paragraph defending my reasonings for putting Snape in just about anything. To sum it down, itās a character that means a lot to me, heās dead, and thatās why heās on this list.Ā
4. Yuuko Ichihara - xxxHolicThe Space-Time Witch herself. Isnāt it awkward when you die and then your boyfriend just happens to be so powerful that even when he just, humanly enough, wishes for a moment that youād still be alive, he accidentally brings you back to life, and then you both have to spend the rest of your lives trying to pay for that mistake and all the lives it affected because it kind of fucked up the space time continuum? And at the same time you manage to be an absolute powerhouse of a character? Because she is. Yuuko might not be alive, but she lives life to its fullest even when sheās not.Ā
5. Rudy Steiner - The Book ThiefI mean, I did say earlier that Dumbledore is the character whoās death Iāve cried the most for, and thatās true. But this book is definitely the BOOK where Iāve cried the most. I can just open a random page and start bawling. Every character who dies in that book could technically make it on to this list. I did almost put Hans on, but honestly? Rudy is part of the heart and soul of that book, and his death feels so much more of a robbery of life. I love him, that little boy with the lemon-coloured hair.Ā āHow about a kiss, Saumensch?āĀ
#bounding-heart#thanks for asking this was so much fun!!#not going to tag all the fandoms#there's a lot of them

Kate Leth: The Frederator Interview

One of our top-most frequently asked Qs is: āDo I need to study art or animation to become a creatorā? Our long-winded answer could really be replaced with:Ā āLook up Kate Lethā. For many of you, this intro itselfĀ will be redundant. Since she began posting her personal Kate or Die!Ā comics in 2011, the growth of Kateās now-ginormous online following - as well as heaps of talent and hard work - opened doors for her to become one of the most exciting comic book creators and animation writers working today. It was awesome talking withĀ Kate about her adoration for Plum, the rising tide of female and non-binary voices in animation, and witches - lotsĀ ān lots of witches.
Kate: So now, where are these being posted?
Cooper: On our Tumblr! We have a long-running Studios blog. Do you know the Frederator // Tumblr origin story?
K: Maybe??
C: David Karp launched Tumblr from his desk at Frederator when he was an intern! Fred Seibert was one of its first bloggers and investors.
K: Oh thatās funny! I still use Tumblr sometimes, as like a less stressful platform than Twitter. Which it used to be much more so?
Yeah, Twitterās really taken over, huh? Do you like Twitter or does it feel like a chore?
Half and half! I like the fun side of Twitter but it is also pretty depressing. Iām starting to use Instagram more, cause itās just happier. Itās like a nice break, scrolling through pictures of my cute friends!
Has social media been very important to your career?
Oh yeah - all of the work Iāve ever gotten has pretty much been through social media. I come from a super small town in Canada, which makes itĀ harder to network and connect with people. It used to be youād meet people at Cons, but now you meet everybody online. So many of the connections Iāve made and so many of the jobs Iāve gotten have been through Twitter and Tumblr. I donāt know where my career would be without those platforms!
Thatās amazing. Did you know those opportunities were out there when you started posting?
I got into Tumblr just to follow people. I worked at a comic book store at the time, and my boss knew that I was drawing and encouraged me to put my stuff online. So I did, and slowly started to amass a small following. It got bigger, and that was how I got discovered by BOOM!, which is how I did my first published comicsāincluding theĀ Bravest Warriors comics, which is kinda funny!
Whoa, cool! From comic book store employee to comic book writer - how was that transition?
I started working there in like... 2009 or 2010? It was part time; I was also working at a dress shop. But I got fired from the dress shop (laughs)Ā so I became full time at the comic book store. My boss, Calum Johnston, was a really engaged member of the arts community. He pushed people to make comics and share them, and thatās how I got started.
He must be so stoked to see where your career is now.
Itās really wild to look back on. When I wanted to self-publish my first zine, I had no money. I was a super broke art student. Cal sold his original art of the cover of the first volume of Scott Pilgrim and used the money to help me and a bunch of other people self-publish our comics. Heās a really good dude.
Thatās so generous! Do you stay in touch with people there?
Yeah, I try to! His daughter is in animation school now. Iāve known her since she was like 14. Itās cool cause now I can promote her work and help her get a foot in the industry, so it comes full circle!
When you got the job at the store, were you just a fan? Or did you know you wanted to be a creator?
Just a fan! I was really big into autobio and self-published comics. Kate Beaton, Lucy Knisley, Erica Moen, and Jess Fink were all creators I was following at the time. Kate Beaton is from Nova Scotia like me, and I watched her get successful on LiveJournal and things as a comic artistāand yet she had studied history! She had no formal arts training; sheād just started making comics for fun. I had always thought that if you didnāt go to art school, that wasnāt an avenue for you. Seeing what she was doing made me realize, āOh, people can do that!? Maybe I could too!ā Iād been reading web comics since junior high, but it was never something that I thought I could do, until I started doing it. Being on Tumblr was also really encouraging; seeing so many other people just starting out and at a similar skill level with their art.

How did the path from self-publishing to BOOM! go?
It was sort of accidental. An editor came across Kate or Die!, and I was offered a backup strip in one of the Adventure Time comics. Only like 2 pages - super short. And then they came back with an offer to write a whole graphic novel? Iād never written anything longer than 4 pages in my life. But I was like, āSure, I can do that!ā. So I wrote Seeing Red, my first Adventure Time comic. And it did well, so they asked me to write another one. And all of a sudden that was my job! I was like, āOh, okay, I better get good at this.ā
Wow, so you taught yourself how to write comics? And to screenwrite? Ā
Oh yeah, I didnāt go to school for any of this. I went to school for makeup and photography. I was a professional makeup artist for a couple years. Then I studied photography for two years. Then I dropped out. A college dropout made good! At first, I didnāt feel like I knew what I was doing. Iāve been writing comics for 6 or 7 years, and I only now feel like Iām good at them (laughing) I know people will disagree! Iām very self-deprecating. But I definitely feel like I understand what you need to craft a story now. When I started, I didnāt think about stories as a whole: knowing where youāre going, how youāll get there, the themes youāll touch along the way. I did a lot of improv in high school, so I felt fine sitting down and just starting! I'd make stuff up as I went. But that doesnāt make for as good of stories. So over time Iāve learned to sit down and really figure out the world, the arcs, the timing for big moments. I fill books with outlines!
Do you have a favorite project youāve worked on?
Spell on Wheels, which just came out from Dark Horse last year, is something Iām really proud of.Ā Itās about witches on a road trip.Ā Megan LevensĀ and Marissa Louise, the artist and colorist Iām working with are so awesome;Ā Iām really happy that weāre gonna do more of it.Ā And itās nice to have an original series out there, because Iāve worked on so many other peopleās properties.

What are the biggest differences there?
Itās very freeing to write an original. Youāre not beholden to any corporate standards or licensers, so itās easier to tell the kind of stories that you want to tell. Especially in terms of things like diversity and queerness, thereās nobody saying, āOh, we canāt do that because itās not in the TV showā. Itās nice to not have to worry about things like that. Dark Horse has been very supportive of it, which is cool.
Is Spell on WheelsĀ your main project right now, or what else is goinā on?
I work in animation primarily now, so Iām working for Hasbro and some other places that I canāt talk about yet, as is always the way. But Iāve been with Hasbro for about a year and a half, as a sort of jack of all trades writer. Iāve worked on My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, Littlest Pet Shop, and a bunch of other things that havenāt been announced yet. As for comics, Iām currently working on the Mysticons graphic novels - the first one comes out in August.
What do you like best about being a writer?
I love it. I think itās amazing to create worlds and characters and stories and see them brought to life by so many different kinds of people, with so many different artistic styles and talents and specialties. Itās just like magic. Animation is so exciting. You write a script and then you wait... like a year... and then itās animated! And there are voices saying your jokes! I feel like the thrill of that might wear off at some point, but it definitely hasnāt yet.
What are your favorite cartoons?
Sailor Moon is top of the list. And Cardcaptor Sakura - any magical girl anime I would just eat up as a kid. I watched Disneyās One Saturday Morning religiously, Doug and all of those shows. And now Steven Universe is a big favorite. I got to write an episode for Craig of the Creek, which is great, and Iām really excited about that. And Iām a huge fan of Bobās Burgers!
What is your episode of Craig of the Creek about?
Witches. Iām very into witches! I grew up on Buffy, Charmed - every YA book I could get my hands on. Practical Magic is my favorite movie. I feel like there were so many movies and TV shows about witches in the 90s. Iām ready for that genre to loop back, in a BIG way. And for the episode of Craig of the Creek, I created characters that ended up becoming part of the recurring cast! So it was neat to contribute to that world a little bit.
What is your favorite thing about Bravest Warriors?
Plum. Just Plum, in general. Sheās my favorite character to write - sheāsĀ just so fun. Sheās silly and weird, and once you get her voice right, sheās such a laugh. She's so blunt and harsh, but in this innocent, unintentional way.
Your episode āChained to Your Sideā has the Scaley Williams Dance - what inspired your play on Sadie Hawkins?
We donāt actually have Sadie Hawkins dances in Canada, which is funny. But Iāve always been kind of fascinated by the concept: āOooh itās so rebellious cause the girls ask the boys.ā Which is so outdated! So I thought, whatās the futuristic version of that⦠and got:Ā āthe girls ādartā the boysā. And we hadĀ this conversation, like, āOkay, they dart the boys - but it has to be consensual! They have to say yes!ā That was very important (laughing)Ā I could only take that joke to a certain point. But I knew the dance idea would let me do a lot with Beth and Plum. And I love beating up Danny. Like thatās my favorite thing to do in the comics. Just let terrible things happen to Danny. Heās such a goofball.
What are the themes that recur in your characters and stories the most?
Surface level, the obvious: witches and gay stuff. In a deeper sense, things I come back to a lot⦠there are a lot of characters Iāve written that work retail or minimum wage jobs. Because thatās what I grew up withāI moved out when I was 17 and started working, and did that up until 4 or 5 years ago. So thatās a huge part of my experience. Definitely characters who arenāt borne of privilege and are struggling to prove themselves. Like Hellcat especially, is very much about someone in their 20s just trying to get by. And I talk about self-acceptance a lot. I like genuine moments between people. Amid the comedy, I like there to be something real - especially if itās something difficult to talk about. Hellcat is this really upbeat superhero, Saturday Morning Cartoon vibeābut I did an entire arc about how people misinterpret and mistreat men who are bisexual, and how thatās different from how bisexual women are treated. So itās this funny comic, but still touching on real topics. I like to try to say something. But not, you know, hit people over the head with it.

Do you have a cartoon project thatās your favorite?
Yeah, but Iām not allowed to talk about it yet! I have had a lot of fun working on Equestria Girls. Itās so exciting to write stuff for kids. Since I started in animation Iāve actually tried to shoehorn myself: I want to write action-adventure for girls. Thatās what I want to do. Iāve managed to get to a place where thatās everything Iām working on now, and thatās really exciting. A lot of people donāt want to be pegged like that, but Iām like, āOh, you want me to write girls punching and having feelings? Good, Iām here for it!ā
Itās funny to pigeon-hole yourself! Most writers seem to want the opposite.
I doubt Iāll want to do the same thing forever! But I definitely donāt think thereās anything wrong with wanting to tell stories for girls. For a long time I think there was an onus to make sure your show could appeal to boys, and that led to a lot of female characters getting side-lined, because executives would say, āBoys need someone to relate to!ā And I agree with thatābut I really donāt believe thereās any reason boys canāt relate to or look up to girls. And I think perpetuating the idea that they canātĀ is pretty harmful.
In your time in the industry, have you noticed animation becoming more inclusive and diverse?
Iām lucky in what Iāve worked on. Hasbro has a huge female staff and a lot of the executives are women, so theyāre very supportive of that. Thereās always room for more diversity, but itās been good. I know there are parts of the industry that are still very much a boys club, but Iāve stayed pretty far away from those, and would prefer to keep it that way. There are so many women coming into animation now. I know so many women and non-binary folks working in the field that are just going to keep rising. Itās definitely a rising tide.
Thatās awesome.
Well, I have to believe that, or else I get depressed! (laughing). My boyfriend and I play a game where at the end of movies, we count how many title cards we get through before seeing a womanās name. (I groan) Yeah, itās wild. Usually it ends up being a producer, or the casting director, or a costume designer. Itās rarely someone on the creative end. And when you start looking for it, you really start noticing it. But itās heartening when you see a movie that defies that. Like at the end of Black Panther, there were a ton of womenās names early on in those credits! Thatās my goal, is to like (laughing), be the early in the credits female name. And then fill the rest of those credits with people I know.
Oh cool, so you would want to make a feature film?
Yeah. I have lofty goals. Weāll see what happens, but I donāt want to close myself off to any opportunities.
Do you know what that movie would be about?
Probably witches. But I guess weāll see!Ā ā

More or less
back in action.
What a crazy two weeks it was! Unforgettable in the best of ways ā„
Mum came over to stay with me and dad last weekend. We went to see the ladies race on Saturday, and I joined mum for the awards ceremony. On Sunday I had a day off so me and mum went to watch the latter half of the menās 50km race. It was an unforgettable day. The sun shone warmly and we went to the forest stands to cheer for the skiiers. Mum bought me a crepe, and we got to cheer with the audience as we took 3rd place! Such an almost unbareably exciting moment! We drove back home in the evening, and stopped to buy groceries on the way.
Needless to say that after a two weeks absence from everything getting back to work and studies was a bit of a struggle. I noticed how fast my deadlines were approaching and had to do some serious planning and scheduling to survive. I had very little freetime all week.
On Monday I watched a video lecture, worked on my thesis and my game development essay. I went to work and to a meeting with the board of the organization I teach dance for. I was chosen as the secretary, which gave me a few added tasks such as compiling meeting records and updating our documents. That kind of threw me off the loop on Tuesday and Wednesday.
I watched a lecture and went to the office on Tuesday. I had a whole bunch of IT issues but after an hour I got to actually log on to the computer and do work. In the evening I did some reading for methods class but was extremely tired. My two weeks at the world championships was basically a vacation, but even so I didnāt really take a single day off apart from the last Sunday.
I had ballet class in the evening, and turns out I have to learn a duet variation by the end of April. Me and my friend chose the pearlsā variation from the Little Humpbacked Horse and sheās already been ordering costumes online. Itāll be super cute even though itās a bit of extra burden on my spring semester. ā„ My friend is also moving away next summer, so itāll be kind of a farewell choreo for us...
On Wednesday I stayed at home working on my thesis, game dev essay and methods essay as well as seminar comments. My friend from high school and my guyās current classmate visited, and they worked on physics homework. I got a bar of chocolate from my guy for womenās day, and our friend gave me a coffee/tea ticket to the uni cafĆ©! How sweet! In the evening me and my guy lay on the sofa watching animal videos on YouTube.
Thursday was busy. I woke up early to watch some video lectures for game dev class and work on my thesis. So far thesis work has been going really well. Iāve gotten some good results from my analysis so far, and Iām really proud of it already. Letās hope I donāt get crushed or sutuck in a rut at some point.. We had a double methods class with a visiting lecturer. Nobody really understood the reading materials that he sent us beforehand and I was afraid it would be super awkward. Luckily he loved to monologue and a few of us had actual questions for him so we survived the almost 4 hour torture. The second part of the lecture was a lot more entertaining, so time went by reasonably quick. I came back to the apartment to plan Fridayās dance classes for my students and rush off to ballet in the evening.
By Friday I was exhausted from the week. Our study group met for the last time and we tried to finish up our report. It didnāt exactly work out as well as I had planned, mainly because my guy hadnāt finished any of his work. It stresses me out so much to know that itās going to cut really close to the deadline but what can I do... I just have to wait and kick him into finishing his part. Fridayās thesis seminar was bad. The poor guy whose seminar work we were commenting on is super bad at taking feedback, and his work sucked majorly. We tried to stay positive but eventually our teacher flat out told him he wouldnāt succeed unless he started taking feedback seriously, and fixed the issues in his text. For a nonconfrontational person like me that was a pretty awkward situation to be in, but Iām glad our teacher was strict with him. I was really annoyed by his dismissive attitude. I didnāt read and write down comments on this 20 pages for you to laugh it off? Iām trying to help improve your grade, at least respect it.
Anyway after my seminar I came back to continue writing the report. My guy had bought me a veg burger. ā„ I had to rush off to work and I didnāt even have my parent-child dance groupās spring show CD with me so we had to practice without music. Other than that (and a terrible tantrum for one of the kids which embarrassed the mother more than it inconvenienced me), work went great. I went home to eat dadās baked potatoes and salmon filling and take a shower. Mum took me back to the apartment where I played a bit of ACNL. My friend finally got her copy and Iām so excited to have a friend who plays the game. She got wifi to work on her 3DS so we could finally visit each otherās towns and it was a lot of fun. ā„
After 9 I met up with my friend in the corner store. She came over for the weekend to play DAI and Mass Effect with me to celebrate both her and my birthdays. We bought chicken nuggets and mozzarella sticks, and came to eat and play DAI. I watched the Pax East stream of Mass Effect Andromeda while she played. It was past 5am when we went to bed and didnāt actually go to sleep until around 6am, but we had tons of fun finishing up Trespasser with her inquisitor - finally.
On Saturday we went to buy some groceries. We made veggie soup and bread rolls with carrot. We played a bit of Mass Effect 1, she went for a quick excursion to her boyfriendās parentsā place and I edited my and grandmumās poem project. My friend came back around 8pm. We baked a delicious carrot cake and continued playing ME1 until 3am. We talked a bit about dreams and nightmares but I was super exhausted so I passed out pretty soon.
This morning we snoozed the alarm and stayed in bed scrolling instagram until almost 1pm. We had a bit of breakfast and started up ME1 again. For dinner we made some pizza, and I got to play ACNL for a few hours visiting dream towns and doing some landscaping in SonetiaāŖ for the first time in a while. We continued playing ME1 until 9pm -ish and then she left. So yeah, we sat gaming for the entire weekend, stayed up late/early, ate a ton, talked and laughed. It was amazing and much needed after a tough week at school and work. I feel so blessed and happy even though Iām incredibly sleep deprived :)
I finished editing the material for the poetry project and copied an early version of it on a CD. Iām going to take it to granny next week so she can listen to it, make comments and decide on a name for it. I need her to write an intro text for it and we need to decide on a cover picture as well. But at least we have a concrete CD now and itās awesome! Some of the poems hit so hard on grannyās own life and sheās an amazing artist so I teared up several times while editing. I have one blooper track saved on my computer for times when I feel like crying.Ā Itās rough to edit stuff this emotional, personal and important to me, but Iād do it a hundered times over for my granny ā„ She truly means the world to me, as do each and every one of our artistic projects together over the years.
My guy is still at his friendās working on his studies. Heās been working incredibly hard this past few weeks to arrange things for his exchange year and get enough study credits to get his financial support back up again. Iām incredibly proud of him. Heās also holding out on Breath of the Wild, and wonāt start it until the start of April even though heās getting his Nintendo Switch next week.
Iām probably going to call it a night, it is past midnight after all. Another busy week with two written works to complete.. Man Iām tired - but emotionally well rested after my girlsā gaming weekend.. ā„
