SPLATOON 3 NINTENDO DIRECT SIDE ORDER ITS HAPPENING ITS HAPPENING OH MY GOD

okay. analysis time

MY GIRL AAHHH SHES BACK!! okay SO. inkopolis square. but dead. its a bleached coral forest basically. there seems to be this sorta of,, electricity thing going on throughout the trailer that we can see on the lobby tower. overall looks dope as hell

WE HAVE THE FULL FIT!! FOR BOTH GENDERS!! okay first of all what are those ink tanks? sorta looks like those IV bags. same with the outfit,, the shoes sorta look like casts and the clothes look like some sort of sensory deprivation tank suit. a lot of medical vibes going on from the white color and everything. i love it

PEARL BOT! no questions about it, marina definitely made this for her (the wives :D) its interesting that pearl isn't actually there (marina isn't either, ill talk more about my theory later) but she can still talk to us through this robot. also love how marina added the sliding eyebrows to make it more expressive LMAO

i love how we can ride pearl bot as well. i think this will be an important feature, wonder if we can control her when this happens :O

okay im seeing a theme of electricity and we can see in the background it sort of glitching, so i think side order might a simulation or something. the huge orb in the middle is definitely some fucked up zapfish (where you end the level im assuming), but its glitching and then a ton of the skeleton creatures come out of it

it looks like a ton of dead fish (dedf1sh...?),, we havent seen any octolings that you need to fight yet so these seem like the new enemies replacing them for side order. though i do wonder if we'll ever encounter an evil octoling (or inkling or salmonid, who knows) also are these an entire new species? or just some simulation creature

i also love how instead of ink, its the same electricity we've been seeing used to summon the weapons. this whole realms creation definitely has something to do with marina since its side order and its super technologically advanced

okay WOA numbers. definitely something marina would implement. i don't have much to say about this but yea, im loving the tech-y themes going on. it also seems like pearlbot is helping you fight these guys since she is shooting lasers at them. if she's sorta like small fry, i wonder if we will ever get to use her as a bomb, or if she is automatic

also its confirmed that the octoling is indeed agent 8! i was like 90% sure but im glad its definite

"just another bystander who got sucked in." what sucked them in? my theory is that marina somehow trapped them in a simulation she made of a world thats orderly- maybe she made it after the final fest?or is this an already existing place? maybe some whirlpool was created after octo expansion and this place exists under inkopolis square?

i am a huge dedf1sh fan and i have quite a few theories about her, so i hope she is an important character in the story of side order and we get some backstory

4 MORE REDESIGNS TIME TO INFO DUMP

Honestly for these designs I barely changed their clothing, so I'm just gonna sprinkle more lore than usual (except for Twyla, I have hispanic reasons for her design)

Rochelle Goyle: big gárgola. She is a stone monster made to protect a church, yet humanity feared their grotesque guardians when they proyected life and reasoning. Scaris is built not as a separation from humans, but as a way to observe and be ready to defend both cities. Rochelle doesn’t share the sentiment: "Humans kicked me and many of my predecessors out after creating us with faith and beauty, they don't deserve our power". A great stone dancer, and a chorus monster of terrific tenor.

Robecca Steam: inspired by a mix between the robots from Futurama and the animatronics from Fnaf. Her story is pretty much the same as in the og monster high cause her character depth is peak writting. Except that now she is confused by her own free will and emotions, since she knows that she likes Venus, yet she cannot avoid feeling flustered by Elissabat. After all the confusion, she got herself on a Shaoran situation where her atraction towards Elissabat was caused by the vampire queen's heart. (Dont look at me like that this is my fanfic I decide what ships stay-)

Twyla Boogey: okey now you must hear clearly 'kay. In Spain the name of the Boogey man is "el hombre del saco" or "the man of the sack", so I wanted to give her that as her main piece. Her face is a reference to how we call the boogey here in some parts of latinoamerica "el Coco", that if you wanna get literal can be translated to "the coconut" djfjdsn. Sooo yeah cococut shining face when getting the spooks. And yeah the rest of her is just materialized shadows, BUT funfact she can only appear when there is already a shadow, and usually can be spotted forming part of Howleen's shadow cause this girl is pining hard for the hothead Wolf

Viperine Gorgon: S N E K. Did you know that gorgons are described as having golden wings, claws and fangs? I learned that while drawing Deuce, thats why he has only golden fangs while Viperine gets the whole set. Makeover artist, and maybe the girl Clawdeen dates after moving on from her crush on Draculaura (Clawdeen deserves a W, and that gay box was very convincing for me so yeah).

So here you have it, many more lesbians and sapphics this time around (I mean Rochelle is not, but she's made of stone so she can stay :D)

SO BASICALLY the main story (i.e. the period of time i have a ref for on toyhouse) takes place in 2017. why? idk!! i think i just wanted the twins to be born in 2000 because its like. a clean number. also in this world there are both furry looking guys and humans because all of these characters were originally undertale ocs

anyways, shishka (btw dont ask why the name is like that i made her when i was like. 9 maybe and i got too attached to the name to change it) and shad are twins. their mom is named sam and their dad is named damien. damien comes from an extremely rich family, but he completely cut ties with them like. as soon as he moved out. sam comes from an extremely average suburban family.

oooooo plot twist tho! damien is actually just a little bit insane crazy and is also kind of maybe an infamous serial killer thats been terrorizing the small town they live in for years. (thats all happening while shishka and shad are like. 7-12)

one day sometime in like. 2012. he realizes "huh. my family is like. dangerously close to finding out that im a serial killer.............. i mean like i kill people anyways why not i just take them out too lol. get it out of the way :)))" and so he tries to do that.

he kills sam, but fails to take into account that maybe his kids would panic at the sound of gunshots and call the cops. because thats what happens. he gets arrested, but not before attempting to shoot shishka, but failing entirely at hitting anything vital. instead, she just gets shot in the...... idk shoulder? elbow??? i havent decided yet. somewhere in the arm region.

after this whole ordeal is settled like. in court. both her and shad get put with 2 foster parents who arent like. the worst human beings to ever exist???? they just arent very invested in the actual wellbeing of these kids, and kinda force them into doing interviews and whatnot about their dad that they don't really want to do. i have like nothing planned for this part of the story besides that so you'll just have to bare with me on that scrap of information. all i really have planned is that they move out at 16 bcs their foster parents kinda suck ass!!!!!

aaaannnd thats kinda all i have planned in terms of her!! the only other thing is that she has a tv head gf named tomo, and they are literally the best thing ever and i love them. sadly shad is more of the main character so he has a lot more of his part of the story worked out already, but i am definitely planning on fleshing out shishka more :D!!!!!

So you know how lethe has been revealed to be the code name?

Do you think it has a intentional deeper meaning?

Because for one there are myths about Lethe with it being a river and what not, which by the way? There are five rivers in the underworld of Greece. And I am guessing here that the other members are going to have code names following with that theme unless I missed something where technoblade decided to give himself the code name of "Wawa Medium Sized Coffee".

If that's the case though, wouldn't they be missing a river? I'm like 90% I remember all the members of the syndicate, being Technoblade, Philiza, Nikachu, and Ranboo. So possiblely another member in the future? Wouldn't be surprised if it were Wilbur or Schlatt, considering I'm pretty sure both of them are still fused together as ghosts unless I messed something? When dream does bring back Wilbur he's gonna accidentally drag Schlatt out too.

I accidentally rambled off there, going back to what I came to originally say, could ranboo be trying to also connect the fact Lethe has opposites?

The main opposite would be Mnemosyne, the straight up embodiment of memories and remembrance. She had a fountain which would counteract the effects of the river lethe, so instead of wiping your memories it would bring them back. Also apparently she gave birth to muses which I did not know until recently so thats neat.

And there is technically another opposite, who would be Alethia. She's the embodiment of Truth. Her name literally straight up means "Un-connealment" and "Un-forgetfullness". Although her possibly being connected is less solid since the main thing I could find was her name literally just being the opposite of Lethe. Her actual determined opposites would be Dolos, god of Trickery, Apate the godess of deception, and Pseudologoi, the gods of lies.

Also apparently Apollo is a god of truth but that is only being brought because that is apparently one of his designations. I don't see any connections or remember any stories connecting him to the underworld or the rivers. The only possible myth would be his son who went down there to get his girlfriend after she died. But that's literally his son, not Apollo himself. SO REMOVED AS A CONNECTION.

But the reason why I am squinting suspiciously at ranboo like a elderly person trying to read and understand the description of a product that's on sale for 25% because the the man is literally made up of opposite colors.

That being said, I don’t think there’s that deep of a meaning to it? Not yet, anyway. I think it’s just meant as a nod to the fact that c!Ranboo has the memory of a goldfish and the backbone of a chocolate eclair.

It’s worth noting that he did point out the definition of “Lethe” without referring to the river/goddess: “oblivion, forgetfulness, concealment” (courtesy of wikipedia). He told us to remember that. So!

We know Ranboo is forgetful. We know he keeps secrets. And oblivion is tied to forgetting, in reference to the River Lethe. I just wonder what else is being concealed!

And YES you bring up a great point about Alethia (truth) being so tied to Lethe! I don’t know if this duality/opposites was intentional on Ranboo’s part, but it is a very cool detail that fits very nicely with the Voice claiming it knows the truth and knows everything he’s trying to conceal.

As for everyone else’s nicknames, it would be SO cool if they were all rivers, but alas, Phil + Techno (and an unidentified member) have already chosen their names. I’ve seen people point out that they all relate to death/the underworld in some way, with less consensus on Harpocrates, due to the fact that we don’t know if we’re looking at the original Egyptian god or the Greek version. I imagine this has to do with the, you know, MASSIVE amounts of death and destruction Phil + Techno leave in their wake.

Right now, Niki is the only one without a name. I’ve seen people suggest Persephone, but honestly, if anyone is going to get the “Persephone” moniker it should be Hannah. (Flower nymph trying to “bring spring to the server” trapped in the underground by a much more powerful entity that seems to be inextricably linked to her? Come on, now.) I like the people who’ve said “Nemesis” (vengeance) for Niki, and I think “Nyx” (darkness) would be very cool. Even though “Eurydice” didn’t make it out of the Underworld, it would also fit with c!Niki’s theme of feeling abandoned (specifically by a bard) and how cc!Niki has said that the Syndicate might be a place for the character to heal from her hurt.

when would the zodiac signs' seasons take place in the thedosian calendar?

so bc the zodiac signs are based on constellations and all the lore etc that accompanies them i'm not even gonna touch that (YET.....yet...) but since spring, summer, autumn, and winter start on the first days of guardian, bloomingtide, august, and firstfall, respectively, so would those particular seasons of the zodiac

thedas-equivalent-of-aries season would just be 1-30 guardian, bc irl the beginning of aries season coincides with the beginning of spring and continues until the sun moves into taurus; all the cardinal signs (aries, cancer, libra, capricorn) begin on the first of the season like that, so we can assume that – IF there are 12 zodiac signs in thedas – the sun is in each sign for approximately a month. so that in 3 months the next cardinal sign can coincide w the beginning of that season

imo it makes sense that (if we're assuming thedas also has 12 signs and that their sun spends roughly equal time in all of them) four of them would coincide w the beginning of the seasons. so like yeah thedas is fake and for all we know they have 10 zodiac signs and they all start on wildly different days, but then everything is just shooting in the dark and where's the fun in that. obviously the changing of the seasons is important to them bc their holidays center around them, therefore i don't think it's wildly out of the blue to think that whatever star sign system they have going on would similarly coincide w the changing seasons

again i'm not currently bothering with picking constellations/symbols/stories/traits/etc for each sign so i'll just say first, second, third etc. point being the seasons of the zodiac would actually be like they are below, rather than how they are irl (aka the 20th-ish of each month to the 20th-ish of the next; it's like that irl bc our calendar is stupid and the beginning of the seasons randomly happens 2/3 of the way thru the month):

so IF we are to continue w that logic — and here's where i'm getting (even more) conjecture-y, but i feel p confident that since 4 of the 5 major holidays in thedas are based on the changing seasons aka thats important — then the traits of the thedas-equivalent of those signs would also have similarities to the irl cardinal signs (namely the traits listed above)

but there are also FIXED signs and MUTABLE signs: so called bc fixed signs are firmly planted in the middle of each season (taurus in spring, leo in summer, scorpio in autumn, aquarius in winter) and bc mutable signs precede the major change from one season to the next (gemini from spring to summer, virgo from summer to autumn, sagittarius from autumn to winter, pisces from winter-to-spring)

and again bc these are based on the seasons, it also makes sense to me that, generally speaking, the signs in the middle and at the end of the seasons would also be distinct in some way. and probably have similarities to irl fixed and mutable signs, tho i'm not as obstinate about that as i am abt the cardinal signs. but anyway MOVING ON

also since we only have so many constellations we see in-game, and since they each come with a codex giving us at least a little background info (aka CRUMBS), any suggestions of which constellations are part of the zodiac are based on those specifically. obviously in real life theres a bazillion constellations that aren’t part of the zodiac, but we do not have the luxury of knowing every constellation in thedas so i am going with what we got

the thedosian constellation map (the canon one) is different than the fan-made sky map, but because i highly doubt anyone at bioware could’ve predicted someone would be As Insane As I Am Being Right Now about it, i don’t think they probably put a lot of thought into making it lmao. the fan made sky map DID have thought put into it tho, and it actually features the constellations we see in-game, so i’m going w that one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

AND. i’m gonna look at the names of the months (both the fancy ancient tevinter names and the ~low/common~ names) in comparison w the constellations we have at our disposal bc why the fuck wouldn’t they be related in some way. this has no basis in any deeper logic than “maybe the fact that the ‘common’ name for this month is drakonis has somethinng to do with the constellation draconis idfk” but like. it’s literally the same name but with one letter (that makes the same sound) changed. i don’t think i’m asking too much here lmao

signs that start the seasons

wintersend is canonically associated with the old god urthemiel; the codex entry for the constellation bellitanus states it (is believed that it) was originally associated with urthemiel. using the same reasoning as with satinalis/satinalia, i’m gonna assume that bellitanus-as-a-zodiac-season would start with wintersend and last through the whole of guardian

summerday was once called andoralis, dedicated to the old god andoral; the codex entry for the constellation servani states it is thought to be representative of andoral, but where the wiki says andoral is the god of unity, the codex says andoral was the god of slaves. (doesn’t clarify if andoral is like, a figure to which the enslaved would turn to in their plight, as like a savior? or whether andoral is...just associated with slaves in some way.) i have no idea what the fuck to do w that except assume bioware is back on their bullshit! i’m gonna come back to this later

all soul’s day was once funalis, dedicated to dumat, old god of silence; the codex entry for the constellation silentir (which literally means ‘silence’ lmao) is usually said to represent dumat. so by this logic we might say the zodiac season for silentir begins with all soul’s day and ends with the last day of august

the constellation satinalis is canonically associated with satinalia, so it makes sense to me that if satinalis is part of the zodiac, its season would start with satinalia / last through the month in which the holiday takes place. aka firstfall

with these in mind, we have (tentatively) 3 of our 4 cardinal signs aka the signs that begin the seasons: bellitanus for spring, silentir for autumn, and satinalis for winter

looking at the fan-made sky map, these aren’t super evenly spaced apart (but then again neither are irl constellations perfectly proportioned so whatever!) HOWEVER. they do still, at least vaguely 😭, follow a clockwise pattern in the correct order of guardian/spring → summerday/bloomingtide → all soul’s day/august → satinalia/firstfall. it’s about the small victories ok *inquisitor ameridan voice* take moments of happiness where you find them or whatever

because even tho the “cardinal signs” go clockwise and in order, there’s still an uneven amount of constellations BETWEEN them. there should be 2 between each but, for example, silentir and satinalis only have tenebrium between them. and there are fucking....TEN constellations between satinalis and bellitanus so we’re going to have to get even more creative somehow<3 lmao these are all taken from the codex entries for the constellations (the names are links!)

TOTH: tevinter old god of fire, thats p much it. the codex does say sometimes toth is depicted as a “flaming orb” which maybe i truly have succumbed to the brain worms but i hear ‘orb’ and ‘god’ and ‘flame’ (aka light/energy/etc or perhaps idk a fucking explosion) and yall already know where my dumb ass is going w that 🥴

pea brain analysis: its dark in winter lol; slightly larger, maybe lima-bean-sized brain analysis: the beginning of a new year (aka first day aka first of wintermarch) could hypothetically be associated w the past ‘dying.’ and also the holiday was originally an annual check to make sure everyone was alive, so i don’t see why gods of death can’t be associated w making sure all your loved ones weren’t taken by said god of death lol

ELUVIA: commonly called “sacrifice,” it’s (apparently) based on an orlesian tale in which a woman is saved from a “””lustful mage””” (i love bioware i love this frachise) by being placed in the sky and becoming a constellation. before this inspiring tale that is definitely not anti mage propaganda, eluvia may have represented razikale, tevinter old god of mystery. the imagery of this constellation is a seated woman with a cloud right above her - literally like her head is in the clouds (also bc it sounds like ‘eluvian’ i’m like 👀)

i’m inclined to pair this one up with cloudreach both bc the ancient tevinter name is “eluviesta” and bc the woman in the story is literally. in the clouds. simple enough

PERAQUIALUS: it’s a boat! but apparently a “primitive vessel” sailed by ancient peoples like the neromenians. according to the codex the translation is usually ‘across the sea’ rather than ‘boat’ but that doesnt rly help me lol

alright i know the name ‘solas’ means pride in elvhen and the word ‘solace’ means like comfort/consolation, neither of which have jack shit to do with the sun, so i shouldn’t assume solis is associated with solium exclusively bc they start with ‘sol’ and sol means sun in...a lot of irl languages lol HOWEVER. i have an even worse reasoning we can fall back on which is that it’s in summer and it’s...fucking sunny??? Alright well since this is the last day of the decade, and that's how long I've been alive (born 2000), I wanted to do SOMETHING so uuuh I'm gonna show off the characters I'm the most proud of making!

-Stonks: I'm really proud of her design, she was made during my first day of college (during my statistics class) and in a way represents my introduction to the next step of my life, so I'm very fond of her for that. I also like her story and personality, as she's written as a generally sweet, nervous nerd who's head over heals over a girl in her office while still having a few secrets she has to keep under wraps, as her horrible town corrupts anyone that lives in it. Also her name is a meme and I love that too

-Goby Powehi: Again I'm all about design and I enjoy hers a whole lot. She was roughly based off a pervious character which was inspired by an old fakemon, from back when I made over 200 in elementary (and started my passion for character design). So she has some pretty special origins. She's also the star of her own story and one of my favorites, as well as having a fun personality and secrets as well, although easily uncovered. Plus she has awesome powers and sci-fi/fantasy origins that I enjoy writing

-CeeCee: I could argue that ALL of the ocs that managed to get popular through my flipnotes are my favorites, not necissarily because of design/story but because they achieved a level of recognition and love I've always wanted for my characters. My ocs mean a lot to me and have contributed to my happiness throughout my whole life, so I feel like a proud parent when others love them as much as I do. CeeCee is the prime example of this, as she's arguably my most popular character/animation. I don't draw her much because I like to focus on all of my characters and she already gets more attention than anyone else, but she still holds a very special place in my heart. Overall, she's helped me achieve what I thought I could not, and it's amazing to think how I almost sold her as an adopt, years ago, and this would have never happened.

-All of the Fruit Citizens: This may be a bit of a cop-out, but it's true. Although I have a select few that I prefer over the others, all of my Fruit Citizens have designs and stories I'm very proud of. The entire premise itself is one of my most complete and developed stories yet, and has elements I really enjoy working with. Even if I haven't done anything other than draw characters, this is the closest to starting a project I've ever gotten, something I've wanted to do so badly for all of my life but haven't been able to due to my adhd and lack of time. I really completed 48 fully colored refs for this one thing and I haven't felt this productive since my flipnote days. I can't express how happy and proud I am for how well it's been received, and I hope people continue to ask me about it as I develop it more. Also I accedentally made 5 new fruit citizens so expect more refs lmaooo

-Cavity: Not to toot my own horn but out of all of my designs I consider this one of the most clever/coolest. I love the combination of a geode with a hoodie, and using the crystal motif to also give them the apperance of a rabbit. I'm still working on their story, and this image could be better, but for the design alone Cavity has become one of my favorites.

-Uri: He has always been a comfort character to me. I don't know why, but I always felt like I could relate to Uri the most, even though we're vastly different. I suspect I latch onto bold male characters because thats what I want to be at times, and to this day I find comfort in his confidence and ability to create his own world and circumstances just by being himself. He's more like a close friend than a character at this point, and I always return to him when I'm out of ideas. He's changed a lot over the 7 years I've had him, both in personality and apperance, and even now his design and story is being worked on, but there's no denying that he holds a special place in my heart.

-Mokaro: I consider him my first real character ever, so it's easy to see his significance. I think I created him back in 2012, as a keronian inspired off of my animal jam outfit, and although now he's a human there's still elements to him that have never changed. He's been there for me through thick and thin, he has a lot of personality and story to work with, his design needs a little polishing but overall suits me fine, and like Uri, he's a comfort character so I really treasure everything about him. His significance to my lore is also immeasurable. To say he's special would be an understatment; he really is one of a kind, and it'd be wrong for me not to include him in this character highlight.

-Captain Dark Kitty: This one is self explanatory. She's the official mascot of my work and just as recognized as CeeCee, being the face of my flipnotes for many years. I drew myself as her for most of my middle school and highschool years and considered her my avatar until recently. She was everything I wanted to be: hardcore, red eyes, black hair, cool outfit, literally part cat. As I grew up though, my dream apperance deviated from hers- especially when my preferences stopped including any semblance of femininity. Now I just draw myself as a cartoon version of myself, and instead made CDK her own character. She still has a place as my mascot and will continue her role as one of the most important characters in my roster.

-Bail: He's the closest thing I've had to a consistently favorite character and I love him so much. I love writing his personality and story and drawing him and everything else, there's very little I can say honestly other than he's very special to me and I'll probably never think otherwise.
