please can you review tuskaninnies?

Tuskaninnies, unironically, don't have tusks, and are honestly more seal than walrus all around. They're also pretty literally just seals without a whole lot else going on with them, minus a white muzzle and fingers, plus a tuft of fur on their heads.

I'm not gonna lie, I don't really like the fur—I once heard someone say Tuskaninnys look like 50-year-old balding men, and yeah, that's really the vibe they give off. The reason is that while seals have short fur, adding a big clump of it to the head makes the rest of the body look naked by comparison. (The muzzle looking vaguely like a 5 o'clock shadow does not help matters.) Maybe if the hair was just a little zig-zag in front instead of a separate piece and the same color as their body fur it would help. I also kind of wish there was white somewhere else on their bodies, maybe on their underbellies or something.

Tuskaninnies haven't changed much with customization, other than being forced to sit upright more.

Favorite Colours:

Spotted: Nothing fancy, but you really can't go wrong with a leopard seal. The colors and spots are lovely, and the addition of the underbelly really highlights what I was saying about the species as a whole needing the muzzle color over more of their body.

Royal Boy: Maybe it is just that balding middle aged man look, but the royal boy Tuskaninny being Henry VIII is both really funny and way too fitting for whatever reason. It also looks pretty good, sporting a nice purple and red palette with just the right amount of detail. Only complaint is that the beard wrapping around the muzzle really doesn't look right; it should be under the 3 part directly.

The only con is that the royal girl doesn't look half as good. They could've modeled it after one of Henry VIII's many, many wives or something to keep with the concept. But even putting that aside, the bright turquoise base looks really out of place and there's too much pink in the design, which blends into the hair color. The only thing I do like is that the dress wraps over the tail to form a bustle.

Faerie: The faerie Tuskaninny mostly gets a spot because instead of just having generic butterfly wings, it instead has more fin-like wings that feel appropriate for a seal—which in turn makes it resemble a flying fish a bit, which is pretty neat. I also like the warm color palette and the additional hair on the UC/styled version, which feels less out-of-place than usual. The UC/styled pose is great, but the converted is pretty accurate.

My only complaint is that I wish there was more of that red-orange color on the rest of the body, as the bulk of it is a bit too plain. It feels like the tail tip should be the darkest orange on the wings, and then there should be another layer of lighter orange running up the entire tail to balance the colors and to match the wings.

BONUS: Hey look, a Tuskaninny that actually has tusks! This mutant is pretty fun, having a more walrus-like look with a shriveled up tail and an anglerfish light for good measure. It's got a great personality to it as well.

im gonna be completely honest.. we dont see him too much in our conversations 💔 BUT thats not saying we havent talked about him before!! we dont have many headcanons for him but there are a couple pretty silly ones i like

- i think he’s probably never.. properly serviced his truck. hes not a mechanic by any means, but he still tries to fix whatevers wrong with it (doing the bare minimum, of course) with ramones guidance. its sort of like one of those old abandoned cars you’d see left to rot on someones lawn or in their driveway, the interior is also bare minimum and the seats are destroyed, but mater argues it’s because it’s a well loved vehicle.

- he taught himself how to weld? he can make little things out of scrap metal — he welded sheriff’s gun to a toaster once and had to pay for a new one (his family is rich, he can handle it) and he made his own canon that he shoots things with

- wears jorts casually and unironically, thinks hes the pinnacle of fashion

- he doesnt know firework safety. or just any fire-related safety ever. he accidentally causes an oil fire and tells lightning to put it out with water - it promptly blows up in his face. he’s blown lightning up with fireworks on multiple occasions to. lightning is just very prone to colourful things that explode

- this one is self explanatory

- piss jokes are comedy fucking gold. nothing is better than piss jokes for him.

- repainting is futile, he tries it anyways and there are just Awful green splotches all over his truck, he says it gives it personality but ramone cringes every time he sees it. its an insult to him and his craft (painting cars)

I forget to use this too much when i'm coloring, but it's nice when you get a good flow with it (needs to be used with a refrence layer)

For pixel art,

I like to use the standard Dot pen, and the lasso tools with ant-aliasing off. Tbf i vary my tools A LOT art to art, and i really just use whatever feels best. (this applies for non-pixel art too)

For pixel art, i really just make sure i have anti-aliasing off on the brushes i use.

In general,

I do also like some of the standard CSP brushes, like the airbrush tool (often accompanied by lasso select) and the marker pen on high stabilization for artwork like merchandise or more "technical" looking artwork.

I use a lot of various half-tone brushes, which are really just a lot that i came across by searching up half-tone or hatching.

I have far too many brushes downloaded, and i pretty frequently switch between stuff, but i tried to list the ones i most consistently use.

Additionally, a brush i like to use is the Jerma pen, which, as it may sound, is just a pen where the brush tip is a png of Jerma. The material was deleted from the CSP assets, but i still use it with custom pen pressure. It's unironically a very nice pen for less refined artwork and sketches.

your aspiration: Neighborhood Confidante is probably the closest to a therapist, right? But in general, I do like being a reliable source for my loved ones. I also feel like Inner Peace is a lifetime goal of mine, being somebody with trauma and mental health struggles. If we're going just base game, with no update aspirations, then it'd be Renaissance Sim. always good to be skillful!

in-game world you'd live in: For Sims 4, Brindleton Bay. It's where a lot of my sim stories take place, and I love the Nor'eastern aesthetic. Plus it's usually chilly over there which as somebody who runs hot, I would live for. Sims 3 would be Moonlight Falls. Misty, foresty, with a river and waterfall? Yes, please. I also loved the Supernatural expansion pack the absolute most since I'm such a lover of witches. In the Sims 2, Riverblossom Hills was hands down my favorite neighborhood. I was weirdly a big fan of that zig-zaggy road in the northeast part of the map.

favourite townie(s): Sims 4: Zoe Patel for base game, Akira Kibo if we're counting the expansion packs. Zoe is just a cutie patootie and Akira is the best-ever townie legacy husband because he makes gorgeous kids. Sims 3: Agnes Crumplebottom is my girl for life. I did so, so many stories to make her life better because I felt awful for her. For the Sims 2, while he's objectively the worst-ever dude, I enjoyed blowing up Daniel Pleasant's life so much. He always gets caught cheating by Mary-Sue, has both of his daughters go no-contact with him, knocks up Kaylynn Langerak who always leaves him, and ends up getting with his ex-wife.

Re: Recent Sonic Posts. Sonic Colours scrapping actually writing was due to Sega, technically, listening to fans...which was a vocal group of dudebros who thought everything that wasn't Sonic, Tails, Eggman, and marvel movie one liners were boring or annyoing. it fucking suuuucks i want them to go back and hopefully ian flynn is giving us that. As for writing Pre-06 Sonic...Unironically, I use Goku Dragonball as a basis for that specific era of sonic. He's a bit more intelligent for sure, but they both share that hopeful naivete.

that's hella unfortunate if true. i don't really have any intricate knowledge on colors' development and what the general opinions about sonic games were post unleashed/black knight nor what sega's like financial situation was at the time which is one of those things that tends to explain a surprising amount sometimes, so it's hard for me to add anything beyond "wow that was stupid and would explain a lot". i also don't really have many opinions on flynn's writing because i don't read the comics, i just remember him writing a boom episode i didn't like very much and that frontiers was good and a big favorite flaws and all which isn't that big of a sample size i don't think lol. even then frontiers is definitely a step into the right direction of what makes sonic games so compelling in the first place, at least to me. the kind of self-aware cynicism of colors is the polar opposite of what sonic games are in the first place and only has a place in sonic boom really

im not very familiar with dragonball at all but that did give me an idea to check if i have other sonic-esque characters in my arsenal that i could reference to in this dialogue scene that could either go perfectly fine or really badly if i don't have a good grasp on things akjshdk

movie – GOD this is a hard question i will instead tell you my top 4 movies on my letterboxd profile.

everything everywhere all at once. duh. watched that movie like multiple times and cried every time too. room. such a sad movie (i love sad movies) and jacob tremblay is GENUINELY incredible in this. so is brie larson but like. wow. spider-man into the spider-verse is always gonna be a fav for me i love spider-man. not sure if atsv tops it or not, will have to wait for the final movie to decide i think, but the what's up danger sequence gets me so hyped EVERY. TIME. and finally jojo rabbit. incredible movie. funny, moving, inspiring, tearjerking. taika is incredible. okay movie talk over. i love movies.

character – okay so i kind of just flit between steve harrington and peter parker every few months. they're my little guys one goes in each pocket.

animal – hmmmm of the classic pets i think cats, i love cuddling with them. but i am sooo fascinated by snakes. i would love to meet someone with a pet snake so i could hold one.

season – autumn. but specifically like early autumn? where it's not raining much and isn't horribly cold, it's just like. the leaves are going orange and it's the kind of weather you could wear any outfit and survive in you know.

Who are your favorite artists to study, and what helped you find your personal style?

I love your work!

Hey, thank you so much for asking! I'll try to answer as good as i can.

For my art journey, it's important to know that i studied fine art and specialized in oil painting, so for 6 years i almost exclusively experimented in that medium and i don't even depict humans in my paintings at all and have a more abstract approach. So half of the art i study regularly are painters and not illustrators. Examples of artists that depict humans that inspire me are Jenny Saville and Ruprecht Kaufmann. I think you can see the former in my portraits and the latter in my full body illustrations a bit.

For my illustrations, I study all kinds of artists, I don't have any one in particular that i want my artwork to look like but more like different artists that accompany me through different times. Right now for example i often look at Alberto Mielgos concept art for Jibaro and try to crack the code of how he renders his artwork. It's seriously so good look it up!!!

What helped me find my style was unironically not consciously drawing in any type of style in particular. I think i have a very high range of stylization i can draw in, from very realistic rendering to a more realistic cartoony style to chibi versions of characters, and i try to NOT hold onto a particular style at all. I think my art style is much more defined by my colour choices for example, which is of course defined by my practice in oil painting.

My advice for finding a style is therefore: Make a collage of all the art you enjoy, for example on pinterest i have a board where i just pin every and all illustrations i find that i think are interesting, not divided by style. Then make a board of photographs faces or bodies you find interesting. Then do copies and studies of both boards. For the photograph board, try to copy them as realistically as possible, and your shortcomings will automatically become your style. Then if you struggle with hair for example, look at the first board and try to copy the way other artist solve that particular problem. That's how i like to study!

Currently reading: OOOH ok so I was rereading Harrow along with my friend who I'm doing the cosplay with BUT I was also at her behest reading the Final Empire, book one of Mistborn (she's super into Brandon Sanderson's stuff) and now I'm onto the second book, the Well of Ascension. They've been really good so far, it's a really cool and unique fantasy world with an awesome magic system (eating different metals lets you do crazy shit) and I loooove the main characters, they start out a bit basic but especially coming into book two they gain a lot of depth and are just generally really likeable, I have had a bit of trouble keeping track of the side characters though lol, there's a couple that all melt together in my brain. Also ostensibly working on starting discworld, I'm a little bit of the way through Guards! Guards! But TLT and Mistborn have been keeping me busy (STILL need to read nona lol, I'll probably get to it before Alecto comes out lol) also I've been doing all of this with audiobooks which I still have some trouble paying attention to sometimes but it's massively easier for me these days than physical books OK LONG BIT OVER

Last song: last song I actually listened to was DUI by Estelle Allen, I unironically love it so much even though I can't drive and therefore follow through (I DID SCHEDULE A PERMIT TEST THOUGH WHOO LOOK AT ME BEING AN ADULT) anyways if you haven't heard it PLEASE please listen to it immediately (and also the whole album it's on, it's actually real good)

Last series: UHHH haven't been watching a ton of "tv" shows recently, but I just finished season 5 of game changer on dropout which was fun, and I'm now binging all three seasons of SoupRS's Gielenor Games OSRS competition gameshow, I haven't actually played old school in a bit and never very seriously but I do love those funny little guys fighting funny little monsters and flicking their funny little prayers :+)

Last movie: UHH I think the DnD movie? I personally loved it, it's not as cringe as I expected and is very accessible to anyone who's not into dnd the game or the internet dnd "fandom"

Sweet, spicy, or savoury: GOD that's hard I mean I am a pleasure seeking creature so like I do love sweet sugary stuff, but I also loooove sweet/spicy stuff, or really just all of those stuck together, although I think I'd actually go for umami over savoury. I've been practicing this scallion oil noodle recipe that is soooo good and the sauce especially is a really great blend of sweet from sugar, spicy from various stuff, and savory from the scallions (plus a lot of umami from the sesame oil and soy sauce lol) my rendition of the recipe is just a simplified/easier version of some I've seen on the internet, but I can post it if anyone's interested :3

Craving: SPONGE CAKE AND TOO SWEET ICING god I just love the texture its such a good sensory experience for me, and the flavor is just. Sugar lol so yeah. However seeing char's answer reminds me that I loooove the samosas from this one Indian place we used to order from that shut down BUT they JUST reopened under a new name and slightly different model so I need to get my mitts on some yummy yummy samosas and tamarind sauce

Tea vs coffee: TEA ez, I mostly just drink water and the occasional sodie (although I really should get an electric kettle for my room id drink way more tea) I think I've literally never had coffee and tbh I don't have much desire too, doesn't smell a way I like and I can get caffeine from sodies, someday I may grow up and get into coffee but I wanna get back to more tea first, I made this syrup with lemon balm that I really wanna try as a sweetener in a tea

Currently working on: well not a ton, got a callback from a job I was really excited about and they seemed into me but also I need a driver's license for that so. I'm starting work on a permit lol. Theoretically working on that cosplay but most of it is just gonna be ordering stuff, I might make the sword out of foam and wood though so I can bring it to cons. Also been drawing a sword for the same friend's fantasy series she's been working on, and just generally helping her brainstorm that stuff which is really fun :)

are you named after anyone? / yes! my mom named me after her childhood friend and even after I came out as trans i kept it as a middle name (and I use it irl).

when was the last time you cried? / like yesterday I think.

do you have kids? / no but if I can find financial security I'd like to!

do you use sarcasm a lot? / no I am so so bad at it <3 also when I do try I'm too deadpan.

what sports do you play/have you played? / I've never played on a team, but I love any sport I can get a chance to participate in. my favorite is badminton though.

scary movies or happy endings? / I'm a big weenie but I love love love horror! But happy endings are good too. It all depends on what the story calls for, y'know?

any special talents? / I can play a lot of instruments by ear! also in video games I'm pretty good at guessing where I can and can't jump up to to get to places the game did not intend.

1: Are you named after anyone?

I was named after a Saint, Saint Nicholas of Bari. If I recall, the story was that my parents were driving through one church named after him, and my mom's religious and she liked the name. Ironic because I am VERY atheist. And yes, I am unironically named after the Saint that would inspire Santa Claus.

2: When was the last time you cried?

Last Thursday when I saw Guardians of the Galaxy 3. And I cried A LOT

3: Do you have kids?

HAHAHAHHAHAHA. Nope. I'd like to be a father, but in the future. waaaay in the future.

4: Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Ironically no? My humor tends to be about me being direct, and sarcasm is dancing around the subject. I do use it, but not that much.

5: What's the first thing you notice about people?

If they talk a lot. Not really a thing that's good or bad, but there are certain people that really REALLY like the sound of their voice, and it grates upon my ears. I am also a talker, but you have to be pretty close to me and I know when to shut up, so I can see how I handle that person.

6: What's your eye colour?

Brown and Green. Yup, Heterochromia, but very hard to notice.

7: Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings. Call me old fashioned, but I like it when stories end on a good note. Even if the good note is dark or bittersweet, I don't know, if the ending isn't good it feels like I just didn't finish watching the whole story.

8: Any special talents?

I have a very, VERY good memory. The issue is that it's very selective and not up to me as to what I remember or not, but I can quote you the 14 mins of Vaas time on Far Cry 3 or interesting war stories from World War 2. But if you want me to remember something I dislike? Oh no way.

9: Where were you born?

Argentina, in Capital Federal. I have...no love for my country and wish to escape whenever I can but for now I am content here.

10: What are your hobbies?

GAMING

11: Have you any pets?

Noooooooooope. I do want to get a British Bulldog and call him Scrotum tho. (Cause Wrinkly, you see)

I played Tennis, Football (the real one not the American one) and Boxing. Out of all, boxing was my favorite.

I'm 185cm , or around 6 feet I think? I don't know, I don't know walmart shooting units.

History. Always been my favorite.

15: Dream job?

I like my job as a designer. If I could, I'd like to learn and be more of an artist, but I suck at it.

Last Book You Read: Last one I finished was “The Flat Share” by Beth O’Leary (recommended by @cherrydreamer and @callieb), but I am currently in the middle of reading “take a chance with me, it will be alright” by @lazybakerart, which I have printed into a book, so that counts.

Last Book You Hated Reading: I had a hard time with “Call me by your name”. It was all love and relationshippy, and nothing else, and thus was not relatable at all to me.

Favourite Thing to Cook/Bake: Halloween treats or gingerbread creations (basically, anything that takes a bit of effort, contains an element of Creation, and which yields a cool result)

Favourite Craft to Do on Your Free Time: I don’t know if I have a favorite; I’ll try anything that allows me to Make Stuff.

Most Niche Dislike: I have lots of dislikes, but I cannot tell you which of them is the most niche. People speaking unironically about padel (the sport) within hearing distance, perhaps?

Opinion on Circus(es): Interesting and fun to my child self, and an experience to watch the artists perform when I got older. Haven’t been to one in years, though.
