Navigating Opaque Websites: A Guide to Finding Affordable Hotel and Car Rental Deals
Travel planning can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to finding affordable accommodations and car rentals. Opaque booking sites, such as Hotwire and Priceline, have become increasingly popular for their unique approach to offering discounted rates. In this blog, we'll delve into the world of opaque booking sites and share some best practices for finding cheap hotel and car rental deals while ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable journey.
Opaque websites operate on a "blind booking" model, where you don't know the specific hotel or rental car company until after you've made a non-refundable reservation. While this might sound risky, these sites often offer substantial discounts—sometimes up to 60%—compared to booking directly. The element of surprise can be a trade-off for substantial savings.
To make the most of opaque booking sites, it's important to be flexible with your travel dates and locations. Opaque sites work best when you're open to exploring different areas within your destination or traveling on various dates. By being flexible, you can take advantage of the best deals available.
Before you start booking, it's important to do your research. Research the general areas or neighborhoods you'd be comfortable staying in, and check travel forums and reviews to get an idea of the potential hotels or rental agencies available in those locations. Opaque sites often use star ratings to indicate the quality of accommodations, but don't get too hung up on exact star numbers. Focus on the amenities that matter most to you, such as free Wi-Fi, breakfast, or a fitness center.
Use multiple opaque sites and compare their prices. Different sites may have varying offers for the same location and dates. Additionally, compare the opaque prices with prices offered on other travel websites to ensure you're getting the best deal. Some opaque sites allow you to bid on hotel or car rental prices. Start with a reasonable bid that's lower than the standard prices you've seen. Keep in mind that if your bid is accepted, you're committed to the reservation.
Opaque bookings often come with specific terms and conditions, so it's important to read the fine print. Pay close attention to cancellation policies, additional fees, and any restrictions that might apply to your booking. Some opaque websites offer package deals that combine flights, hotels, and car rentals. Bundling these services can lead to even more savings.
Finally, consider loyalty programs or memberships offered by opaque sites. Joining these programs could give you access to even better deals.
Opaque websites like Hotwire and Priceline can be valuable tools for finding cheap hotel and car rental deals, allowing you to save money while enjoying your travel adventures. By following the best practices outlined in this guide, you can navigate these platforms with confidence, make informed decisions, and unlock significant savings for your next journey. Remember, while the element of surprise is part of the experience, the thrill of discovering a fantastic deal can add an extra layer of excitement to your travels.

Hi.. can I request a pedro×reader please?
I want board game night with pedro. One where it things get hot and heavy 💋❤
Oh yes pleeeaaaase, I absolutely LOVE the idea.
I wanted to wait before publishing it, so that I could write others and plan them, but I was so proud of it (for once), that I couldn’t wait!! I love it so much, I was inspired!!!!!
Minors, please do not engage!
Warnings: smut, oral, unprotected sex
Summary: game night took a turn when you end up loosing
——————————————————————————
You were coming home a little bit late tonight, you had an emergency at work. You were a little bit worried that Pedro would be mad, since Friday nights are designated to be your game night. Unfortunately this time you couldn’t get out of work early.
When you entered the house, you saw the games on the table, and you smelled the pizzas in the oven. After putting your stuff to the side, you entered the living room, to see Pedro reading a book with the tv on with music.
“Hi” Pedro said, lifting his head, smiling
“Hey, I’m sorry for coming home so late” he put his book on the coffee table and got up
“It’s okay, don’t worry, I warmed the pizza and the games are ready” once in front of him, you put your arms around his neck and kissed him passionately. “Aaand, it’s not that late” he added, looking at his phone
“I don’t deserve you” you said, kissing him lightly again
“I know I know” you both laughed
“Are the pizza ready?” You turned your face towards the kitchen
“They should be” you both walked to the kitchen. While Pedro checked the pizzas you set up the table. “What game do you want to play tonight?”
“Hm, I don’t know.. Are you in a mood for a long game or a short one?”
“Whatever you want”
“That’s not helping” you joked
“When you ask this question it’s because you want to play a long one, since the only long one we have is monopoly, let’s do it then” you stood still, staring at him, blushing a little
“It’s not even funny, you know me too well”
“I’m the perfect boyfriend I know” you both laughed
“Don’t get too cocky”
“I should say that to you with that attitude, when you are the one who came home late” you gasped
“How dare you! I work to put food on the table!” you laughed
“And what do you think I’m doing? I stay home waiting for you!” Pedro continued the joke “and when you come home, the first thing you ask is what’s for dinner? How do you think it makes me feel!” You couldn’t stop laughing
“Alright alright miss pascal, I’ll set up the game, you can serve the pizzas”
“Right away ma’am” you chuckled “but still you’ll have to make it up for coming home late”
“Yeah yeah” you smirked as you sat. Pedro put he pizzas on the table, and gave you a piece of it, before taking one for himself.
After almost thrifty minutes, you were well into the game, music still playing in the background. There were almost no piece of pizza left. In the game, Pedro was winning. He bought a lot of places, the expensive ones, while you only had the cheapest ones.
“That’s not fair” you said as you ended on his place, the most expensive one. You looked at the two piece of paper that showed “50” on each.
“You do have to pay though” he smirked, proud of himself
“I regret choosing this game” Pedro laughed. “Can I take money from the bank?”
“Nope, you already did it twice, they refuse to lend you more money”
“Why? You will end with the money either way”
“You’re going to have to find another way to pay” he had a big evil smile on his face. You stared at him, thinking.
“Can I pay.. maybe.. in kind?” Pedro’s smile dropped a little, his eyes starting to travel on your body.
“Depends, what do you have in mind?” You slightly got up from your chair and leaned over the table. You put your hand under Pedro’s chin, pulling him closer to you. Once he was, your hand wandered on his body, before ending on his crotch. Pedro didn’t dare to move, his eyes never leaving yours.
“I was thinking, you know.. this kind of stuff.” You bit your lip. You slightly tilted his head on the side, getting closer to his ear. “Like maybe you could take me right now on the table” you whispered. Then suddenly you sat back down. “I don’t know, only if you want to, I can pay you later with money if you prefer” you were smirking, Pedro got all serious, but more specifically speechless.
“I’d like option one” he finally said. He put both his hands on the table, and pushed the board further on the side of the table. Once it was all empty in front of him, he tapped on the table, signaling you to come sit in front of him. Smiling, you got up, walked around the table, before sitting on it, right in front of Pedro.
You are wearing a pair of dark blue jeans with a simple white shirt. Well, you were wearing them. Because in soft motions, Pedro unbuttoned your jeans, and slowly took them off of you. Kissing your thighs as he got closer to you, his hands arrived on your waist and grabbed your shirt, taking it off. You were already moaning as you felt his lips on your body.
“It better be worth it, because you own me a lot of money” he softly said as he got up and started to kiss your stomach, then your neck. You couldn’t help but chuckle. One hand on the table, the other on your back, in just a snap he unclipped your bra. You took it off and threw it somewhere in the room.
Your hands were slowly going down under his shirt. Before he could kiss you again, you slightly pushed him, and started to take his shirt off. Once it was off limits, with your legs you pulled him closer to you again. Staring at him for a few seconds, this time, you were the one kissing all over his body, as your hands found and squeezed his butt.
“Do I never treat you right?” You asked, breaking the silence. You saw in Pedro’s eyes that he didn’t expect it, but that he didn’t dislike it as well. He smiled and kissed you roughly but not too much. He started to go down, going from you neck to breasts, making sure to take care of your boobs, before ending on your stomach, and a little bit lower, your right hand in his hair.
He looked at you, his hands on your waist as they grabbed the fabric of your panties, and started to slowly tug them down. You moved a bit so that Pedro could take them off. He threw them away, not really caring right now. On his knees, he brought you a little more on the edge of the table, and kissed your thighs again, before going down on you.
You immediately moaned when you felt his tongue working perfectly on your skin, his beard tickling you at the same time. All of these sensations were already sending you to heaven. You were arching your back, your left hand holding you still on the table as much as you could. Pedro was also holding you still with his right hand, while his left was curled up around your thigh, sometimes squeezing it.
In matters of minutes you were getting there, your moans getting louder and louder. Your legs naturally wrapped themselves around Pedro, it was too good. Grinding a little bit, you were finally on the edge. After you hit your orgasm, you were breathing heavily, laying on the table. You released Pedro from your legs. He got up, and kissed you all the way up to your lips. He pulled you up so that you were sitting again. Without saying anything, you stood up, and turned, pulling Pedro where you were.
“It was supposed to be the other way around” you said as you pulled down his pants.
“Can’t help myself” he said as he wiped his mouth with his thumb. You chuckled. “You taste too good” you pulled his underwear down, exposing him entered to you. You lightly pushed him so that he would sit on the table. Not saying anything, you kissed him passionately while you wrapped your hand around his dick and started to move up and down. He moaned in the kiss.
You lowered yourself, your left hand going down on his body too. Know on your knees, what your mouth started to do what your hand was doing before. Pedro threw his head back, moaning and groaning. You knew what you were doing, your tongue making it feel just right. You were also using your hands, each touch was essential. That’s actually his weakness.
His hand grabbing your hair tightly, he came in your mouth. Swallowing, you got back up. Neither of you said anything, you just looked at each other. It was now incredibly hot in the room, you were both panting, but you were far from done. After a few seconds, Pedro grabbed your thigh, quickly turned and put you on the table again. Here comes the best part.
He roughly kissed you again, his hand down, working on your clitoris, stimulating you again, and preparing you for what’s about to come next. You squeezed his ass, earning a moan from him. He parted your legs more, and centered himself with you. You pumped him a little, before putting his dick in front of your entrance and started to slide it inside. You put both of your legs around his waist, making him go even closer to you, making his dick going further and deeper inside of you. You both moaned at the feeling.
Then the motions started. In and out. Grinding accordingly to the thrusts. Your hands were either on his back or butt, squeezing what you could find, as the feeling was very intense. Pedro was kissing your neck, his hands on your breasts and holding you at the same time. He always preferred keeping you close to him. He loves the feeling of your skin of his way too much. You were starting to get close and Pedro was not far away from you. The thrusts were getting faster and deeper, making you both moan and scream.
Your orgasm both hit you almost at the same time, him a little after you as he kept going on a little bit as you were flooded with the most intense feeling. Pedro’s head rested on your chest, both of you breathing heavily. You pulled his head up, kissing him passionately.
“Did I pay my debts?” You both laughed
“I don’t know, the bank hasn’t made a decision yet” you hit him playfully before kissing languorously, still a little bit feeling the adrenaline and rush from the moment. You parted, gathering your clothes, leaving in the bedroom to change.
You eventually came back in the living room, well, you didn’t finish your game yet. You went back as nothing happened. Both smirking, you went on, knowing that it would all happen in a few minutes.

˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ Pile 1
Just because the person you love doesn't love you doesn't mean you're unloveable. I'm getting a very sad energy from this pile. I feel like majority if not all of you are going through a major heartbreak. I'm getting that whoever you lost, the loss was meant to happen. If you're blaming yourself for anything, I don't think that it's your fault even if you do think that way. This person would've left even if you didn't make any of the mistakes that you made. Some of you might have gotten bullied, made fun of or humiliated by someone which affected you pretty deeply. The amount of love you seem to hold towards the person that you lost is genuinely admirable, they seem to have put you through a lot, they changed you in a way, perhaps, even enlightened you. This person made you really happy, didn't they? Even though this person hurt you very deeply, you seem to be really worried about their well-being and want the best for them. You're not a terrible human being, you are very much worthy of love. I'm getting you tend to hurt over them to the point you get physically ill. You can feel your guts twisting and your heart knotting because of them right? I feel like no matter how difficult it is, you need to accept the loss and try to form a proper routine, don't ignore your emotions but try to keep yourself busy. You likely felt really left out in the cold. This person really hurt your pride and broke your trust but I'm getting a deep sense of loyalty that you have towards them. For most of you, it's pretty recent, however, for some of you, it's a past energy, you might seem like you're over it but I feel like it still affects you a lot. I feel like you feel so much guilt towards them that whenever you feel like you're forgetting them, you find a way to remember them again. You always find a way to hold onto them. I feel like you're really loved, even if you don't feel like it. You're not a rude person, I'm infact getting that you're really compassionate but people like to provoke you and when you get upset and lash out, they act like you're the bad person. I'm getting scandals for some of you. I think it's past energy but it might have affected you a lot. Please try to be easy on yourself and take care of yourself. You are worthy of love, even if you don't feel like it. Some of you need to stop skipping meals. Forehead breakouts anyone? Get enough sleep please. If you were attracted to pile 2 please check it out.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ Pile 2
I'm getting that for some of you, you have to choose between two paths or you're thinking about a career/major shift, I think grass is greener on the other side. Spend time planning stuff out properly though especially if you're moving or travelling. I feel like you guys struggle with committing and want to try various different things. You guys are discovering a lot of stuff. Don't be afraid of changes and new beginnings whether it be a career shift, relocating, moving schools or simply just meeting new people with different perspectives. Regardless of whether or not you feel progress, you are making a lot of progress. I'm also getting that you need to raise your standards when it comes to dating and keep them high. If you're struggling with money, try to be thrifty with money but don't stress over it too much, I know it's not as easy as it sounds but I feel like some of you need to save up money. You need to let go of the poverty consciousness. A truth of some sort was revealed to you and you learnt a lot of lessons, you infact still are. I'm getting that some of you might have lost a lot of people in within the past few months or years. If yes, those people weren't healthy for you and the universe just threw the poisoned drink from your glass to fill it with something better, something actually good for you. You might get into a love triangle soon into the future and I think something even more heartwrenching is coming your way but yeah good days are definitely guaranteed after a final blow. If you haven't lost anyone yet, I'm getting some sort of a heartbreak here. Someone here is going to fracture some bones soon. I'm getting something very valuable is going to be revealed to you in the future, it's going to crush your soul but you're going to build up stronger than ever. Some of you might have some snakes around you, please watch out. A conflict is a possibility in the near future.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ Pile 3
You can read this until the end but if nothing resonates, try to choose another pile. You fear new things however weirdly enough, you still manage to act overly optimistic and tend to leap before you look. I feel like some of you might joke around and end up acting really unserious. I'm getting that you should try to be a little bit more serious and less jokey for the next few weeks because you might end up getting into trouble of some sort possibly because you didn't look before you leapt. Are some of you dealing with friend group problems right now? for someone the girl/guy with T as their first initial (can be first or surname) dislikes you, I'm getting that you're probably already suspicious, if not let it fly. I'm getting that if you're holding onto something or someone, possibly a friend circle, you're just setting yourself up for failure. You'll grow so much after you finally let go of them. You'll realise that not everything was your fault and they were simply just insecure. I'm getting that you are prideful, you're a winner, you'll win no matter what. You definitely have atleast one snake around you. If you do physical activities, try to be more careful as you might injure yourself (if you haven't already). You seem to have a lot to let go of but you'll first need to let go of whatever it is that you're holding onto so dearly. You'll really get the chance to explore new dimensions of yourself once you've let go of what's holding you back. You might feel like you don't have options or no one wants you (maybe most people don't shoot their shot when it comes to you) but many people do. I'm getting that so many options in all different aspects of life are coming for you once you let go. Letting go and starting anew seems to be the theme of your life right now. You are not the problem. You might have gotten accused of thinking that you're the center and treating others like shit. I'm getting that whoever accused you is ignoring all the good things that you've done cause I'm getting that you've definitely done a lot for them. You're sticking with them even though they treat you that way, you deserve so much better. Your best friend started hating you? It's not you problem. I'm getting a jealous friend group for most of you but it might be something different that you're having to let go of. Try to talk about your emotions more seriously but if the other person doesn't take it well, cut them off. It's not me, it's the universe. So many other people care about you, you're not alone. If your relationship with your mother isn't good, it's okay, I'm getting that things might have turned too bitter to turn back from but you're definitely not the problem here. Don't blame yourself please. You deserve the world, please don't settle for less.

Placements I’d like to call thrifty:
Tumblr media
Venus and Jupiter both seem to represent spending habits. In both unique to their own kind of ways. Jupiter for wealth and Venus for the physical commodity of what that wealth can bring. Saturn however represents the economy as a whole. The one that represents the entirety of what’s driven by Venus and Jupiter. Taking into consideration that Saturn can be restrictive and the respective signs of Capricorn and Aquarius can both represent a more cold wintry energy (henceforth where winter is hard to bear due to the impoverished harvest around that time), it can be safe to assume that Venus and Jupiter in those signs can prove to be thrifty. Being one to work on a budget rather than being a wealthy and born-into-success type deal.
Here’s some of my takes regarding those observations. And remember, these are in my opinion and solely mine. You’re free to disagree but let’s not cause war in the comments. It’s needless banter.
Placements deemed thrifty (MAJOR):
Venus in Aquarius (pretty self explanatory. The thrifty commodity finder. Someone to finds unique stuff at a goodwill or eBay for a good price and makes it either a fashion icon or a trend. The alternatively trendy.)
Venus in Capricorn (also self explanatory. Someone who saves a bunch of money before getting what they want. You’d see them decked out in some luxury stuff but they’d also be quite cheap and insisting on buying a great value box of sparkling water than Bubly or Topo Chico.)
Venus in Sagittarius (may be too wild in buying commodities. Watch for thoughtless/needless spending)
Saturn in Taurus (slow to build wealth but it may also be karma with wealth)
Saturn in Sagittarius (toning it down on the spending naturally or having karma with travel. Travel usually costing a lot of money can be an issue. Last minute spending due to so much karma in benevolence.)
Jupiter in Aquarius (wealth in alternative work routes. You take the interesting way to success and it’s guaranteed. May have had to manage money after you have spent on it. Paychecks may range variously.)
Jupiter in Virgo (I have this. Not everything is just handed to you on a plate. You have to have your x’s crossed and i’s dotted, your plans planned and your seats booked in order for there to be forward motion and a chance to get money. Wealth comes from years of knowledge. And knowledge is king these days.)
Jupiter in Capricorn (like above, you have to work for it. But for y’all power is gained. Alas, if you end up being frugal this is definitely a placement for it.)
Saturn in Cancer (you raise a household from a young age. You may have been sent out on grocery lists and handed a budget at ten. You had to follow it or be punished. If you managed to find cheaper deals and prices, you’d have extra money to spend on yourself. Alas, you only had so much so you had to enjoy one little consumer item all to yourself. Doesn’t matter what that was. Or if you were smart, you saved it for the piggy bank. Either way, another thrifter/frugality placement.)
Saturn in Leo (the debilitated celebrity. Publicity karma. Being a celeb meant money right? With Saturn you may have had to become quite scarce in order to find some sort of karmic release. Your ego had to take a blow so you can find publicity. Without that you’d be probably more frugal than a Canerican Saturn. Prayers to you my love.)
House placements that might signify thriftiness and frugality (MINOR AND VARY):
Saturn in 2nd, 4th, 8th, 9th,
Venus in 9th, 11th
Jupiter in 12th
Tumblr media
Before I continue, I may want to also kinda “add a cherry on top” by saying:
To be a thrifter is to be a future trendsetter’s inspiration. Apple took after the 90’s iMac G3’s for their color for their new mac’s. Same goes for our fashion.
Go out. Thrift for a bit. You never know what might be an inspiration to those in the future.
You can deadass be a trendsetter and not even know it.
Keep on rocking thrifting community! <3

hello ! ik you’ve got a lot of requests, so il just send this in and whenever you see this whichever time that’ll be if you choose to do this request then thanks! il be patient. but basically, I wanted to ask whether or not you could see any possible positive outcome for blackpink if they choose to stay with ygent. ik that the future isn’t set in stone, but just for now. cause i for one do not see anything positive to come out of that. I truly hope they leave honestly.
i’ve decided to ask about their pros and cons if the girls decide to renew with their company since any positive outcomes .. it’s just not fair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Pros]
Jisoo - YGE can give her what she wants, including making her working towards her goals in her individual career. Also, they can also “move forward” with her solo career and she will be remembered as an individual. I also see she’s aware of her benefits if she resigns with YGE.
Jennie - She’s independent and doesn’t rely on anyone. The little amount of individual opportunities seems to be advantage for her too, she might be really stay-at-home girl. They let her travel to whatever she wants to. I see she’s really grateful to them for that.
Rosé - Uh, honestly, her pros are combined with the cons themselves? I believe that like Jennie, she has less individual activities (that to her are unfair), and this leads to her own freedom in some way. This leads also to Rosé overthinking and wondering of .. basically, anything. Yes, it's a plus for her. Although these combined pros-cons things, she also sees an advantage, and it's about that when she's working, she's doing the job as she has to and YGE doesn't bug her about doing it faster, or to take it slow.
Lisa - She was upset on how she was treated in her rookie days, but she got over it. Lisa appreciates that she has activities that she wants now. She also feels that YGE is a fate to her and is thankful at the opponturities she has now. Lisa might be also aware of the influence she has in the industry as there are more Thai idols and trainees. Her material wealth is also an advantage to Lisa herself. Maybe whatever she wanted to do just won't work in Thailand if she started there first. All of this led to her independence.
[Cons]
Jisoo - YGE is too predictable of the individual activities they give, so it’s not suprising she wants DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES. Because of it, she might be less motivated too. YGE is also too manipulative, Jisoo doesn’t want to deal with their tactics. YGE is also thrifty, Jisoo would prefer for the company to spend more money of what their artists need. The company might hide how rich they actually are. YGE is uncertain company towards individual activities as a whole. The company seems to be “moody” - either they don’t say anything or are too emotional.
Jennie - YGE might give her less money or her individual career is just at “stand-by” position and she has to ACT to have any individual opportunities. YGE also doesn’t look at her solo activities: she might jiggle activities at once which leads towards her stressing out, so the company might be careless towards Jennie. YGE doesn’t have realistic plans for her and the company sees Jennie as a machine/robot. Jennie doesn’t trust them at all and that’s her major disadvantage. It makes sense why she has some “lazy tendencies” - because the company sees her as a robot.
Rosé - She might've been restricted about her point of view. I believe when she tried to help the company with their issues, YGE didn't even want to listen to her and they decided to judge Rosé and say that she's wrong, so as emotional as I feel she is, Rosé might've felt hurt and therefore, restricted. She also doesn't believe and trust them (similar issue as Jennie's). Obviously, YGE also restricted her solo activities, so achieving anything doesn't matter as they still want to make her like a doll. She wasn't an option about anything individual, YGE doesn't communicate with her. She is aware of their lack of willigness to at least tell her the truth. Simply, she was ignored.
Lisa - Similar as Jisoo, YGE is thrifty. Lisa believes the way YGE spends money is too conservative because the times has changed. The company also deceive Lisa, they behave unethically towards her, probably because she's foreigner. The relationship between Lisa and YGE isn't great at all: there might be unresolved conflicts that make their relationship imbalanced. Like Rosé, they also didn't communicate with Lisa. Lisa's values are also really, really different. This leads to Lisa's unrealistic expectations towards her being an idol. She isn't being herself when is under YGE. She might feel lost. She could even feel like an outsider, Lisa might actually clash with the rest of the girls a lot. Her work ethic might be also different than the rest. She might be insecure of the other girls' abilities (maybe vocal-wise). YGE didn't risk with her, YGE didn't change the way Lisa is treated (this is despite the fact Lisa has activities that she apparently wants). Lisa isn't satisfied with the way YGE wants stability for the girls. Lisa thinks YGE is too complex as they made her insecure, doubting herself and also possibly made her like a robot (similar as Jennie/Rosé). She isn't confident of her abilities and she blames YGE for that. She's just living in a lie and she realises it only now.

Chapter 6
In the Raven’s Eyes
L. Pieces had begun falling into place as she gazed at the sundial That slowly shifted towards dusk; its shadows falling further And further. Her plan’s details in accord, her mind in fervour. All the lore she needed to obtain, she did with grace compile For her northward traverse. This truly was the perfect night, Almost poetic in nature! Ríona’s thoughts revelled in spite. The event of the evening: Inauguration of the juvenile Demigoddess. This ritual would make that price worthwhile.
LI. As she leaned on the railing of the brick faced balcony, Her senses observed the preparations of the whole ordeal: The clanging of servants as they shaped the grounds so they would appeal To all who’d attend her tribe’s apogee – this grand ceremony! But inside, there rampaged a fire full of elation, yet ‘twas a bitter Mirth of vast hesitancy. She had to trust her mind’s vigour Henceforth, but luck’s proprietor tugged at her vanity; Or so she hoped, holding onto her ace of amnesty.
LII. Tracing through the stories of the goddess, she noted a man Who would certainly know how to answer her deepest query; For he likewise was a demigod – a kin-in-kind. Yet leery Was he; careful one has to be with those of foreign clan! But she knew, if there ever was one, it’d be him who’d have prod At the question so close to her heart. “How does a demigod Become free of the spirit guest?” Time was short as it ran Without delay. She must find him if there’s to be hope in her plan!
LIII. With her lore-learning she had begun to uncover talents None other had ever spoken of before. Through adept perception, She noticed the influx of traits which were not under her own direction. They bled and seeped into her as foreign travellers who sought imbalance Alas oft came with lavish bounty. So too was now her misty Mind, mysterious even to those of a highly thrifty Humour and causing languor to all who’d wish to sink their talons Into her supple soul. Thus, such trance was the fruit of one’s habits.
LIV. This occasion she deemed as truly sweet, a perfect crime. With Aurianne in her brief cocoon, all that remained was to wait And yet the mist of her mind tugged at the sides of her pate, Demanding ever more fixation; putting more pressure on time. If she could hold just a while longer, she’d reap the crops that were sown So many years ago, where the roots of the goddess’ tales were now grown. That web of lies, though tangled, now a passageway begrime With unsafe truths, but a path still. A journey of a lifetime!

The New Wave
“Messages” (1980) Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark Dindisc Records (Written by Paul Humphreys/Andy McCluskey) Highest U.S. Billboard Chart Position – None
This one is a bit of a cheat because it involves some explicit time travel.  In 1980 the duo known as Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey) were both still living at their respective parent’s houses in Wirral, Merseyside, a section bordering Manchester in the North of England.  They had formed in 1978, were on the “dole” (public relief) and bought their first instruments in thrift shops, not including their first synthesizer (a Korg M-500 Micro Preset) purchased via a catalogue provided by McCluskey’s mother on a payment plan of “£7.76 a week, paid over 36 weeks”*.  I, however, was in 9th grade living in Lakeside apartments off of Abercorn Expressway in Savannah, Ga, mostly listening to much more mainstream, shinier fare, and wouldn’t know this song until the late 80s.
Through a series of events that included gigging around town and opening for Joy Division at Eric’s Club in Liverpool (a club which was members-only at a very discounted rate and featured so many punk and new wave bands it is hard to overplay it’s importance), they recorded a one-off single, “Electricity”, for the then unknown Factory records, with a slip cover designed by Peter Saville, and the rest is very fast history. OMD were a true new wave, synth pop band, with a tension between the ethereal and brainy (Humphreys) and the more rock and punk (McClusky).  One of their other extreme bolts of great luck was having a fan in Gary Numan (see previous post), who was very popular at the time, and then being invited to open for him in arenas in 1979.  It should be clarified that Eric’s Club was a tiny room in Liverpool, as indy as it gets.  I am sure the leap was tremendous, especially considering they both still lived at home.
After “Electricity” was released (to fanfare if not actual pop success), the boys signed a 7-album record deal with Dindisc, with an advance of £250,000.  With the advance they built a studio to record their first, eponymous album, reasoning that when the label dropped them, they would at least have a studio.  It was here they recorded “Messages” in a much sparer, punkier version.  Dindisc asked for something slicker to release as a single, and it was this version I first heard at some point in art school in the later 80s—one of the most woeful and deliciously ethereal of pop songs, fully danceable, but almost more in one’s head, an inner sensation not unlike the zombie wiggle I felt come over me in 1980 with Numan’s “Cars”. It is a single that never ages, never grows tired, and always releases the inner goth teenager inside of me.  When those first electronic notes appear, and then the tidal wave of faux organ sounds that rush in to McCluskey singing “it worries me this kind of thing” I can feeling my swing bang growing and I am off to another world, that teenage one, one with tons of ambition, cool sad feels, a place I can return to again and again, where in opposition of the stated lyrics, memories are not such uncertain friends.  They are crystalized time.
OMD are still recording in that very same studio, as thrifty as ever.

A bike tour epilogue
This turned out to be a bit of a “mini bike tour” in terms of miles and cycling days. The weather was humbling, the traffic was unexpected, and the logistics were at times complicated. There was a lot that worked but some big stuff that didn’t. Here are my parting thoughts in case you want to be doing a trip like this in Iceland.
What worked:
Our gear (s/o to our bikes, Fanny and Socks, special mention to my trusty SPF chapstick and my entire wool baselayer. With only a few exceptions, we were comfy and prepared and not over burdened.)
Camping (cheap and plentiful, if crowded at times; the communal kitchens are a godsend especially in bad weather)
Public heated pools (some of the fancier spas were worth it as a treat, but the pools were cheaper, less crowded, more plentiful, and overall just universally sparkling clean, awesome and relaxing)
The nature (we saw some awesome stuff; in some areas the landscape seemed to change every 10 minutes. Despite fewer bike days than we planned, we were never at a loss for things to do outside.)
Strava (I paid for the premium plan for elevation profiles and road types and referred to it constantly when planning routes)
What didn’t work very well:
The wind while biking (it can be steady, or it can be steady WITH gusts. Be realistic and ask yourself if you want to spend 8 hours fighting a 25mph headwind. Check the wind forecast. Be flexible in your planning to allow for down days or reroutes.)
The wind off bike (your sleeping bag temperature grade goes out the window when it’s being blown on by a freezing, moist breeze. Do yourself a favor and bring a wind proof tent. We had to block the gap under our rain fly to get a good night sleep some nights.)
Cycling the ring road (you probably don’t want to bike on most of it, traffic is too dangerous. Look at traffic counts if you don’t believe me. If you plan some alt routes like we did, be prepared for complicated bus shenanigans and some gravel riding. And with the buses, most only had the space for 2 bikes so we really got lucky we were the only cyclists. We met some folks who only biked at night to avoid traffic - the sun’s out nearly 24 hours in the summer - so that is an option if you’re into it.)
If I could do it over again, I’d set up a sort of basecamp area far away from Reykjavik traffic - probably in Egilsstaðir - and plan on shorter multi day loops in the east and north, instead of trying to cycle around the whole island. Maybe fly into Denmark, bike a little around there, then take this ferry.
Finally, re Iceland itself. I would recommend traveling here if you:
Love horsies
Love birdies
Love camping and nature and geology
I would NOT recommend traveling here if you:
Hate the idea of spending money (you can do the thrifty thing we did and camp, but food etc is just gonna be more expensive. It’s an island. They have to import a lot.)
Hate cold and / or windy weather
Travel in order to immerse yourself in another culture (I feel like I got glimpses of it, but it’s so crowded with tourists that those glimpses were few and far between)
Thank you if you’re reading this. Thank you friends and family, thinking of you this whole trip. And thanks everyone who suggested music tor my playlist, you made my day ❤️

Budget-Friendly Mobility: Exploring Cheap Vehicle Rental Options in Dubai
Dubai, known for its luxurious lifestyle and modern infrastructure, is a city that beckons travelers from around the world. For visitors and residents alike, navigating this sprawling metropolis efficiently and affordably is a priority. Fortunately, there are numerous options for cheap vehicle rental in Dubai that cater to diverse needs and budgets. Among these options, several car rental companies in Dubai stand out for their affordability and quality service, making it easier to explore the city without breaking the bank.
Choosing the Right Car Rental Company in Dubai
When it comes to finding a reliable car rental company in Dubai, there are several key factors to consider. Reputable agencies in Dubai, UAE, offer a wide range of vehicles, from compact cars to luxury sedans, ensuring that there is something for every need and budget. Companies such as Budget, Thrifty, and Hertz are well-known for their extensive fleets and competitive pricing. These agencies provide excellent customer service, flexible rental terms, and comprehensive insurance options, making them ideal choices for both short-term and long-term rentals.
Advantages of Cheap Vehicle Rental in Dubai
Opting for a cheap vehicle rental in Dubai offers numerous advantages. Firstly, it provides the freedom and convenience to explore the city at your own pace. Public transportation in Dubai, while efficient, may not cover all areas of interest, especially for tourists looking to visit more remote attractions such as the Al Qudra Lakes or the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. A rental car ensures that you can travel comfortably and on your own schedule.
Moreover, cheap vehicle rentals help manage travel expenses more effectively. With various rental plans available, including daily, weekly, and monthly rates, it’s easy to find a plan that suits your budget. Many car rental companies also offer special discounts and promotions, further reducing the cost of your rental.
Exploring Dubai with a Rental Car
With a rental car, exploring Dubai becomes an enjoyable and hassle-free experience. Visit iconic landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah, and the Dubai Mall at your leisure. Drive along the scenic Sheikh Zayed Road, which offers stunning views of the city’s skyline. For those interested in cultural experiences, a trip to the historic Al Fahidi Neighborhood or the bustling Gold Souk is easily accessible by car.
For adventurers, renting a car provides the opportunity to venture beyond the city limits. A drive to the Hatta Mountains or the serene beaches of the Jumeirah coastline offers a refreshing escape from the urban hustle. With cheap vehicle rental options, these excursions become not only feasible but also affordable.
Conclusion
In conclusion, a car rental company in Dubai offers a practical and budget-friendly solution for mobility in this dynamic city. By choosing a reputable agency in Dubai, UAE, travelers and residents can enjoy the flexibility and convenience of exploring the city and its surroundings. Cheap vehicle rental in Dubai ensures that you can experience all that the city has to offer without worrying about transportation costs. Whether you’re here for a short visit or a longer stay, affordable car rental options make it easy to navigate Dubai in comfort and style.

Rent a Car in Dubai | Affordable Options for Every Budget
Tumblr media
The Emirate of Dubai is renowned for its stunning buildings and towers, luxurious lifestyle and the mix of diverse cultures from all over the world; and is a popular tourist destination with millions of visitors a year. Continuously transportation on public basis is not the same as using a rental car for their mobility. Rent a Car Dubai enables an individual to have self driven access to the city plus various destinations and the UAE’s appeal. Dubai offers a wide range of affordable car hiring deals based on their price – suitable for everyone.
Choose the Right Car Rental Company:
When looking for a car to hire in Dubai you have a wide range of companies available with plenty of choice depending on the price of your budget. When hiring a car rental agent it is imperative that one should select a car rental agent who is able to provide good quality services at reasonable cost with customer service and is able to maintain good quality cars. It operates through the following car rental brands: Hertz, Dollar/Thrifty, The National, Advantage, and Firefly. These companies have a wide variety of cars that accommodate cars from small compact cars to luxurious cars.
Consider Off-Peak Seasons:
Off-peak seasons is another tip to help you to ensure your car rental costs at affordable prices in Dubai. These high prices can be expected on peak holiday seasons from November to April. But if you plan your trip during summer or any other period when there is not a high rate of rental cars – then you may come across lower rental fees and car rental special offers.
Tumblr media
Compare Prices Online:
One is advised to always check the best offers and deals from different car rental companies before they make the final booking. There are several websites and online platforms which offer exact prices and terms of the rental companies that they work with and allow you to compare vehicle models of different companies. This way, you can compare all the options available and choose the most optimal one for your budget and individual needs.
Opt for Economy or Compact Cars:
Another good tip is to rent economy or compact cars if you’re working with a tight budget. They consume less fuel than other cars including larger and luxury cars while their rates are also low than the other vehicles. They are perfect for singles or couples going sightseeing with no thought of outdoor activities.
Utilize Long-Term Rental Discounts:
If you are going to spend longer days in Dubai then long term rentals are also worthy of consideration. Most rental car services will provide a reduced rate if the customer plans on renting for a full week or longer. It can be economical compared to daily rent especially those in the city for longer period like above two days.
Check for Additional Fees:
It turns out that before you rent a car you have to take into consideration some additional charges. Such fees may range from insurance cover, adding more drivers, the fuel policy, or tolls fee. There are always rental car companies or car rental agencies that have a rental agreement contract wherein the terms and conditions of the rental car are clearly stated.
Tumblr media
Insurance Coverage:
Even though car rental companies offer insurance does not mean it is adequate, one needs to consider extra insurance. Whether your travel insurance or credit card offers rental car insurance is also quite important since this would allow you to save money on the rental car coverage that could be offered by the rental car company.
Conclusion:
I advise that renting a car in Dubai is the best and most convenient way to travel around Dubai while enjoying the freedom that it affords. Following the aforementioned tips and looking for affordable cars will ensure that you end up renting a car that you can easily afford and one that will help you achieve your goals while in Dubai. Just make sure that you need to pre-book your car, compare the best deals, and prefer a trustworthy rent a car company to have your perfect memorable Dubai driving experience on the amazing highways.
