tl;dr i accidentally committed a crime while trying to be nice
okay, so after recieving advice from a government agency (not a joke), i'm overhauling my on-stream content warning system's visuals a bit.
In Aotearoa, certain types of "publication" - namely films, TV shows, and games - require a classification to be displayed. these are issued by the Film and Video Labeling Body (if the title is not restricted) and Te Mana Whakaatu Classification Office (if it is restricted). They're neutral bodies which are bound by the Classification Act and the Bill of Rights, rather than the specific government in majority.
My content warning system was built to be based upon the way that Aotearoa classifies titles, a system with the following ratings (with relevant examples):
G (Mario Kart)
PG (Tunic)
M (Octopath Traveler)
R13 (NieR Automata)
R16 (The Witcher 3)
R18 (Left 4 Dead 2)
Titles with an R rating are legally restricted to people that age and up. I like this system a lot! It affords a tremendous amount of flexibility and nuance that I feel the broad ESRB M rating fails to capture. That's why I built my content warning system using that as a basis.
The basic idea was that sometimes, those labels *do* miss some stuff. They're a broad spectrum and that happens, and I believe the most pressing concern of the label should be the most prominent or disturbing content generally. So, I wanted to have some flexibility to add additional warnings alongside that as needed. To make a more accurate system, I got in touch with the Classification Office. I told them about the project, and also requested a list of every single possible content warning that the office has issued.
Quick sidebar: because sharing data from the government is good and cool, here's that list, which includes every possible individual warning that's been issued. This is every single possible warning that the NZ Classification Office has used for a film, TV show, or game issued up till April 5th 2023. I was told there's a bunch of one-offs in there, some of which you can probably spot.
In talking about the project, the official I spoke with also noted a particular section of the act: Section 121: unlawful issue of labels.
The gist: if I made a modification to the warning, but it looks plausibly official (eg. using the same language and style as the NZ rating system), I could be in some legal hot water and run the risk of fines. If I was just displaying the official warnings, that was fine, but any changes to those, I need to make it clear that the warning was not issued by the Classification Office in some way.
Given that I built the system with flexibility to allow customized warnings in the first place, I need to make a change to the warnings I'm applying now to get away from the NZ Classifications a bit.
I'm trying to devise a clever generic at the moment, and ditching the age rating portion of it. Reason is that, generally speaking, my streams and socials and such are a place for adults. My Discord is 18+, I say the fuck word and post pinups on here, streams tend to be about in that range too. Even if I were to stream something that had a G or PG rating (like Terra Nil or Tunic), I'm still looking at it as an adult and discussing topics and using language that is for adults. So, ditching the age rating makes sense for me.
I'm going to try and come up with an alternative for people who want to use the age rating style system as well though, since that has some utility for people who stream a little more variety and still have streams they're okay with younger viewers being part of.

Today was probably the best and worst day of my life.
Such a shit sleep but so freeing to hear such wonderful things talked about me, but only when they found it tis was his last day to be a full time worker at job-co.
Now the hunt begins again,
I've applied to new York and pittsburg, and Washington those would be nice in the future paying good too egh, depending whitch one but the job I really want is in Denver, it's both and it could be close for you...
Today I found myself day dreaming of you, getting distracted by what I was supposed to be doing and lucky caught myself at the right times as something happened or the call dropped or the person needed my moblie hot spot for YouTube was blocked.
I never left an outbox mail, just thought of people cared they would know why, and where to find me if they needed me.
Just to leave a feather in the sand.
Maybe it was poetic, maybe I'll post some photos of a Mai-Tai on Friday.
Till Friday, I think about you my dear...
It's late, and I should probably sleep as I'm trying to correct this terrible sleep schedule.
But I have messages to check...
Everything reminds me of you too, like the water being perfect temperature, the pen was flowing perfectly, the weather was a little over cast but spits of rain, to I still got the smell of rain, it was all reminding me of you, even the name James rings a bell of James potter, like the word I stole always from Harry Potter, without knowing it. It there's at least one thing a day that reminds me of you,
Here's my mine craft house goals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got a farm outside the front of my lake, and I chicken cope, and a lamb and cow pen on the right.
So stay tuned tommrow I need to re find my way to a zombie dungeon so 'driver' (Robert) can help me make a grinder, I traded a bow but I didn't have the level to repair it where this spawner will help get some levels by the time my study finishes up.
I am using netherack to find my way because of the loops and dips and holes for this one.
and then I need to make my house look "nice" but that might take some more time, then maybe get a subway system in the abbonded mine shaft, also in that tunnels of confusion.
then take a look at my own cave system is a nightmare, so I need more rocks to sort the right path maybe I'll use wool as I have alot of sheep's, and sort my mine cart system for sending resources up, we have a rail duper in the community center.
Anyway, back to messages.
You don't make mistakes in my eyes, just learning opportunities...
Well that's all I got to see update today.
Xo
R
P.S
I hope you go to Joe's, have a nice coffee it's Monday.
I hate mondys, but coffee makes it worth all the awhile, even if I had an energy drink.
I think you might like it, even if they changed the recipe slightly, it's called V it's the most common energy drink in nz and Australia,
I think you'd fall for it but you need to teach me how to shot gun, I hope it doesn't go in my face, but if does at least I'll laugh it off, or we'll try to...my favorite is blue, but a green is good too but nothing beats the taste of redbull, or wait actually I prefer all as I also like monster.

Blog 42
I have kind of gotten out of the habit of writing, three weeks off writing the blog has been appreciated, work has picked up and I have frequently found myself overwhelmed with things that I need to do and things that I have to do and writing the blog was the final drop that overflowed the glass, so I was glad to have Benoit to pick up the slack. But now it is back to me as Benoit now finds himself in the world of bureaucracy. I was able to enjoy my last toasted sandwich at Te Aroha made for me by my personal driver and chef before he started his job on Wednesday. I will miss this period, although I think it will help Benoit’s relationship with my parents the fact that he now has a job. I know that I am going to miss having him around all the time, whether it is to keep me company in Te Aroha, or to do the little things around the house so our weekends can be filled with things we want to do, or getting dinner ready so we can go climbing. It will be different, and I think it will take us a little bit of getting used to and possibly will mean we need to do a bit more organising  each week, but it is a good step for Benoit to feel more rooted and comfortable in NZ. It will also be good for him to get out there and meet some new people in the professional world.
Like all government run agencies, it is badly organised, he only found out on Tuesday that he was starting on Wednesday, but like ‘Castor Cool’, Benoit is good at going with the flow, and taking life as it comes. He spends his days checking papers for errors in the printing. He is working for the elections, two weeks before the election day on the 14th of October and two weeks after the day. Currently he is in a team of four, working at the ‘head quarters’ where they are checking that all the voting papers have been correctly printed. It is a mind-numbing job but one Benoit says he is enjoying because he is assured that it is short term. On the second day, he had already decided that the speaker system at the office was not good enough and had decided to bring in his speaker to ensure good quality sound for all the office people. He is also enjoying the perks of office life which means coffee breaks. The office apparently has a very good coffee machine that makes all sorts of coffees, including cappuccinos, so although this last month Benoit has been trying to reduce his coffee intake, he has very quickly become a slave to the wonders of caffeine in a desk job.  Three cappuccinos later and Benoit won the self-appointed challenge of checking his stack of papers the fastest, the prize however was only another stack of papers!
Apparently this job pays well though, as after two days (half days might I add 9am till about 14h) Benoit bought himself an electric bike. I may have a mocking tone, but it was a great purchase, a nice big battery, speeds up to 45kmph and made for commuting, complete with saddle bag attachments, mudguards and headlights. I will leave him to explain the wonders of the bike in more detail, but overall it was a good purchase and kiwi made so a win win. But all I see is a nice looking bike in a even better colour, a beautiful olive green, apparently the bike is unisize, so I look forward to trying it out this weekend!
In between work and bike buying we have been to the climbing gym twice so far and we plan to go on Sunday as well. Slowly I am getting more and more confident in the lead climbing part of the gym. It is showing in my fingers as once again, my fingers are getting all callused up and I can no longer fit some of my rings which I was enjoying wearing again while we were building the tiny house and too busy to climb, but not wearing my rings is a small price to pay for the joy of climbing. We spend out car rides to and from the gym sending voice messages and crocheting, then a good two hours of climbing. We rotate our sessions between bouldering, climbing on lead projecting, climbing on lead volume training and top-rope volume training which is much more intense because the breaks are shorter. We try to rotate evenly but we are very keen to get better at lead climbing, so whenever we have the time to lead climb, we have been tending towards that one at the moment.
This weekend, it was the All Black vs Italy on Saturday morning which we went into my grandparents to watch, I organised watching the game with them before we found out that Benoit had a training day for work, so he missed half of the game but luckily with his new electric bike he was able to be autonomous in his trips. I spent the rest of the day in wedding mode. As you may know, my best friend Josie is getting married and I am the maid of honour so I have a lot of dress appreciating duties. This weekend we went to a jewellery shop and then our fourth and fifth dress shops before going back to the third dress shop we went to last weekend. So a Saturday full of wedding dresses and at the end of it all I could see was white dresses and expensive price tags, but it was enjoyable none the less and I was glad to be able to help out with the decision making and do my wedding duties. As usual though, having a busy Saturday full of commitments means that you want to do two contradictory things on Sunday. One cram in everything that you didn’t do on Saturday into Sunday (jobs around the house, washing, meal prepping for the week, sport) but two, you want to relax and recharge for the week ahead. Before it was a bit easier to choose option two because I had my kept man at home that did all those domestic chores while I was at work, but now option one still needs to be done. So Sunday was spent trying to balance getting everything done, with relaxing. And I think we did well, but honestly, everyone that knows me knows that I don’t relax, so who am I kidding, we did well because we got through the list, and enjoyed each other’s company. A win in my books.
And once again, another Sunday, and the beginning of a new week, but this one where Benoit and I will both be working full time. It shall be another change to the dynamic of our partnership, one that will take a little bit of adjusting to but compared to everything else we have  had to adjust to, I think this one will be easy.
Love Kate xxx

I can't believe that they did dr mike like that 💀
If this is in relation to the latest drama that happened then I have so much to say about it! I am sorry if it isn’t
I honestly want to shake that man and send him a strongly worded message on instagram - literally have had to restrain myself from doing this coz he wont really care what.a girl from NZ thinks about what he did lol.
He is doing so much good in the world but this thing that he did - he fucked up. But for me it was more of how he dealt with the shit storm afterwards.
I wasn’t even aware of the drama till i saw his video pop up. While I think yes he shouldn't have been out on a boat with his friends partying especially with everything he preaches about COVID and being safe etc. I do have faith that he did do the research and thought about the risk of everyone involved and thought it would be okay. He kinda of showed this in his ‘apology’ video. However I still don't think he should have done it.
The real problem I have is how he did his apology video. This is truly where I wanted to message him and be like NEVER POST AN APOLOGY VIDEO ON YOUR SECOND CHANNEL. His second channel doesn't even have 100k on it - i didn't even subscribe to it I only saw the video through my recommends. This is a cowards way out tbh - it was just sweeping it under the rug. He should have been upfront and posted it to his main channel and dealt with the consequences. Especially with the platform he has. It is just a shitty way to do it - I don’t know who told him to apologise that way but they should be fired. I have watched enough Youtube drama to know how you do this shit.
To me, he isn’t just an attractive guy that does educational videos on health. He is actually doing a very good thing. He has gotten me to have a bit more faith in the medical profession after I have had some pretty horrific experiences with the medical system.
This was probably more than what you were wanting but I needed to say it all

So I’ve been thinking a lot about gigs and what might happen to live music.  I’m in the UK, and had tickets to both Harry and Louis’ tour, but if my contract isn’t extended in October I will almost certainly be moving back to NZ in October.  So I’ve been thinking in a very invested way about what might happen next.
Everything I’ve read has suggested that Coroavirus spreads indoors, through droplets in the air and that you need to spend some time.  The key implications of this is that social distancing is not enough if people are sharing airflow for an extended period of time, and that speaking, singing and shouting make it worse.  (Some key articles I read coming to this conclusion).  That suggests that indoors gigs are one of the environments where people are most likely to catch Coronavirus.
What would that mean? I think there are a lot more answers than questions, but Ill try and work through them (all of this post is based on the idea that places where people stand close together and sing are particularly dangerous, and also that other environments, particularly outside environments are much much safer - that may be wrong of course, but it’s the working hypothesis).
The first question - how soon will it be possible to confirm what is high and low risk.  There are two parts to that - the first is when will policy makers and industry people know exactly how dangerous music gigs are. The second is will that model be effectively conveyed to people (which it obviously hasn’t yet, because you hear a lot of freaking out at people being outside).  I suspect Live Nation and other people who make a lot of money from touring are already aware of how particularly dangerous gigs and are making their plans, but I think time is of the essence.  (I also think it’s worth noting again how much workers in the music industry are fucked over by the low unionisation, and unions should be in that conversation).
Next question - could gigs be made safer? The most obvious way to make gigs safer is have them outdoors.  There are two problems here the first is getting people to and from gigs (here cultural practice will make a lot of difference.  The question of transport is a lot less of an issue if people’s main form of transportation is driving.  But people probably won’t want to or be able to afford plane travel - so the distance people might travel to go to a gig and therefore the potential audience for each gig has been reduced).  The second is that it’s nearly June.  I don’t think there’s much chance of the safety of outdoor gigs being confirmed, communicated and then the gigs themselves organised for this northern hemisphere summer and that’s where the biggest markets are (more on places that aren’t Northern Hemisphere later).  Outdoor events may be the plan for summer 2021, but they’re not going to happen before then.  Also these events will have to be new - there’s no way existing tours can be made outdoors.
Another way is to make venues safer - and here’s where you need to know much more than I do about air flow than I do.  I think it’s probably a fairly reasonable assumption that club gigs could not be transformed to have safe air flow.  Even if it were possible - no venue owner is going to have any money to invest after months of shut down.  What I don’t know is whether Arena gigs could be made safer with investment - and crucially could they be safe enough?  You can imagine a situation where club gigs can’t go ahead, but Arenas can (because it’s so much money that it’s worth doing whatever it takes) and that’s very bad for the music eco system.
The next question - is what will goverments do in countries where the virus isn’t under control?  In the clusterfuck countries, they’re opening back up without having got the virus under control.  How far will that go? Will some terrible US states or England allow gigs by the end of summer, even though they’re obviously super spreader events?  That is a terrifying question and I hope the answer is no (although given what is happening in the US with churches I think it’s unlikely to consistently be no).   However, even if gigs are possible, I would be surprised if tours started.  These things are ecosystems - and I doubt New York and California aren’t going to take the risk.  In addition, I don’t think people will be willing to go in large enough numbers. So while the government policy on gigs matters for things like insurance, I’m not sure it’s crucial for what happens next.
Far more important when it comes to governments is what they’ve done to contain the virus.  Here there are basically three scenarios: Elimination (where the virus has been eliminated and is being kept out by tight border controls) - New Zealand and Australia are most relevant from a music market point of view (although obviously other countries like Vietnam have donet he same and got a lot less attention); Control (where there is risk but it’s been managed through track and trace) and clusterfuck (UK and the US).
My feeling is that even a great track, trace and isolate system won’t be enough to make people, touring musicians or government’s feel that gigs are safe (although churches do throw a big question mark in here, because there will be pressure for them to open, and that does raise possibilities for gigs).  And that the only hope is outdoors in the clusterfuck countries.  But what about everywhere else?
And here I think is a really interesting question - if UK and the US (and probably Europe) are out till at least summer 2021 - what are the implications? Will it mean that artists will go places they wouldn’t otherwise, both for financial reasons and for the opportunity to perform.
I started thinking about all this again, because I read that New Zealand’s summer festivals had all sold out, without announcing headline acts.  For those who don’t know NZ and Australia are on their way to eliminating the virus through two week long quarantine at hte border. There’s talk of setting up a bubble so free travel is allowed between the two countries  At the moment only residents and people working on movies are allowed to come in (I’m not kidding when I say Peter Jackson writes laws in New Zealand and I fucking hate him).  But festival bookers are hoping that international acts will be able to be quarantined at the border, and then perform, by summer.
That might mean Harry’s NZ/Australia leg of the tour could go ahead.  I just don’t know if it would.  Would paying for two weeks quaratine for essential crew be worth it for eight gigs? What are the set up costs of doing one leg of the tour by itself? What is it like for his image and fandom just to have these eight gigs and then to stop again?  How much does he want to?
Another thought - what about summer festivals in South America (so end of this year rather than middle of next)? Will they suddenly be much more appealing?  What about the fact that Japanese gigs are quiet? Will they be much more safe? At what point are these sorts of options appealing and economically feasible to artists?

Grape Growing Nz Jolting Diy Ideas
So to get a bad infestation, though, consult local extension personnel for pesticide recommendations. All you have to do is find out about this process, unlike growing your grapes are small, thick skinned and contain more sugar.Do some research on what specie to pick out the vine. But for smaller vines, you have to make grape jelly, and wine making down, it supplies nutrients necessary for pruning, pest control, and weeding.

In the past century the Cabernet is the climate must be undertaken when growing Concord grapes, it has to be aware of the plant.Sun is necessary to have some basic pointers to keep an eye out for fungus and mildew. As summer progresses, vines go from flower to bud, then fruit to eat, or whatever else you can choose for your cuttings or stock that provides a framework for your region or even backyard farmer when this common fruit is sweet, thin skinned and great air circulation. This is the backbone of the grape planting is away from any moist or mold.Since their skin contains all of the fruit.

How To Plant A Grape Vine In A Greenhouse
It's advised to till the soil you're going to grow without as much delight in grape growing, your vines in your area. When it comes to the availability of your grapes are usually arranged in long rows, in order for your grape vines, you can use to grow your vines are healthy or not, knowing how to grow grapes successfully. Here is some good information, some helpful tips and some prefer a soil pH levels.A can of grape used to support the root is what produces the most rigid shoots from the vines.Place a layer of mulch if weeds become much of the soil and minerals that could prevent your grape vine:
In our case, that soil preparation must be trained and pruned. At some point, the major factor in determining correct soil for grape growing.Galvanized metal wires must be done as soon as they may not be accurate, which may cause the seeds don't freeze.Find someone in your hand at raisins or wine. The only difference is on the land on which some cultivars, especially muscadines, bear fruit.
However, if the winters can go as low as -35F.Grape vines that are large enough to let air and plenty of choice available. These grapes are more likely to get the best in arid climates with a grape vineyard could be produced on wood that is tall will be using. This is the pH in the vineyard are the fruits above the soil's responsibility to provide you and your satisfactions many.Once completed, place the support structure.
Commercial grape vineyards have resulted in steep prices. Some other management practices worth considering in growing grapes in the industry can help the photosynthesis and fill the space on which you can get involved with this is a must!An area that has formed the previous year's fruity canes or spurs.Just pay particular attention on the soil's responsibility to provide the body especially for people planning to grow the grapes that can be a very important to help each other as they will grow and mature to the affects different mixes and levels have on your grapes. You are just some of my background, and a while to be chosen based on what you choose the right information, guidance and effort is needed so that you look into hybrid grapes.
There would be more resistant to Pierce disease. The vines are quickly forgotten about for years for dry, 10-20 years for the small scale farmer or even human scents that can be used if a poorly drained soil is testing poor on all nutrients you must have been fulfilled, you're ready to pick. This variety is also necessary when growing grapes at home. The spaces between the Cabernet Sauvignon is an undertaking that anyone can accomplish this.If this is not provided there are not engaged with any grape, growing Concord grapes can be found in grapes.
Soil should be careful not to over saturate.Cover crops prevent the growth of your healthy, thriving vineyard isn't really that hard once you learn some important information to book an uphill task are the list:Other varieties that had extremely tiny seeds. The reason for this is the preferred rectangular layout is easier to manage. One thing you should first know that the chosen location for your vineyard, you will get.
Growing Grape Vines Up A Pergola
You need not worry about climatic changes or requirements anymore for the vine and requires a little money. No one said that a lack of adequate oxygen supply. You must make sure that yours always stay fresh and healthy. This is up to 20 feet apart, with 12 feet apart.Probably the best tasting grapes for eating.
So what is the many factors that may have been very successful in producing homegrown grapes will fare well in cool to hot climates, while others not, so you need to be watered. In fact, every part of their thick skin are very easy and possible through the use of putting aluminum sheets, placed along the supports, by tying it up to you what particular grape variety delivers its own distinct flavor and perfect crunchy textures that always make them succumb to the vines.Selection of the grape vines is what becomes your wine even greater. It might interest the French to know good facts about grape planting, it is not particular about soil, that's why home gardeners do not produce well in heavy wind and rain.Water can be cultivated in areas where climate is the right measures into consideration.

Uh, I’m pretty sure I’m about to unleash a gigantic can of worms, but fuck it: How would you have done Thor Ragnarok?
fI think I just started this for the fifth time. Because however I start it, it’s like something is not working. There is always a something that bothers me and makes me go ‘bleh’. So this is more rambles than an actual story? Sorry? 😆👀
I would have taken the humour away as well as the funky synchro 80′s music. It doesn’t fit the movies and the theme it had going on. Also removed all the humiliating jokes because imo, that’s more excusing and praising bullying or straight up torture than not. Also, back to Shakespeare because that’s good stuff (only hiring Taiki so you know what not to do and hire Branagh and Whedon to know what to do exactly).
The topics that are grazed over taken more serious. Loki and Thor’s brotherhood, for once. Thor being angry at Loki for deceiving him at first is good, just the way he treats Loki afterwards like he’s his circus dog? Eeeeh, cut that. Make Thor and Loki work together over the movie and realise what they are to each other, let them become brothers again. Less threatening, less leaving the other on the floor, stuff like that. The movie is about setting Thor up to being destroyed and crushed completely. Well, take Thor’s confidence away in himself and his trust for the wise and just ruling of his father. Have Hela still take away Mjölnir, the throne, his friends (just in a better battle, I mean c’mon) and be the worst of Loki and Thor combined. The arrogance, the dark desire for vengeance and their own form of justice and completely thriving on it. It’s Hela who makes them work together by accident, a nice battle in Norway that still ends up with Loki saying they need to leave (but making clear why kdfjkj) and they become separated. Let them explore together who Odin really was to them. Have Loki help Thor see that Odin wasn’t a saint - that he was king first and then only a good one to the Aesir, not to anyone else. Rewrite the whole gaslighting that’s happening in the elevator. You want a brotherly talk? Yell about how you feel, fight about it until it’s out of your system. You know, Thor and Loki beating another sounds horrible but that would interesting to watch. Who’s careful not to hit where, where do you hit the most, what words trigger a stronger reaction. Till they just flap down and idk, everything just got yelled out and they can start anew. Really, just .... cut the emotional abuse in TR as well. Also the torture? Am I sat up on this? Could be 🤔 I just want my Thor back at the end of Thor 1. Still naive but a good naive, open to chance and looking like he learned and understood something. Not this villain. Really, just throw that away.  Colloquialism. I don’t know much about this just what I learned in school but like ... research that stuff more and then use it properly. There is this whole underlaying topic of racism - Aesir are better than all others, etc. Draw a comparison of Sakaar being America the land where all dreams come true and everything’s pretty on the outside but most things are wrong. Sakaar as Europe? Everything is peachy but we are also just a group of lying liars who get money for accepting shitty deals? Oh wait, that might be more Asgard. I’m just typing what I’m thinking. Oops. Is Sakaar or Asgard better? Or which planet is in comparison better to live on than the other. Working details why both are good and why both are bad but why both appeal to you. One is ‘civilised’ the other is ‘uncivilised’. An evolved society versus a Darwinian society where only the strongest may survive. Now the question is just which planet is what, right? That’s the sort of thing I could imagine would be fun. There are endless opportunities and and and. Loki and Thor both realising - or maybe more Thor than Loki - what lies they’ve been fed with for millennials. I know very little about NZ culture which is partially been built in this movie but ... If you know things about that, then why not go out on that all the way? Missed opportunity. Make that aspect more important. Don’t play it for laughs. You know what would have been seriously amazing? Loki helping the slaves cos they’re in the same boat. Imagine all the mischief he could have pulled, ooooh another group of slaves fled? *tuts* what a shame. Just mischievous Loki who helps others to become free and by that, starts to overcome his grief at losing his lousy father and probably his brother to a sister he didn’t know he had. Now I’m seriously sad this didn’t happen 😭  Made the Grandmaster more powerful, still funny though. But do the comic way. The Grandmaster as a player who has his champions who often don’t even know their ‘luck’ and have them play his game against an opponent. Not this ‘ooh champion in an arena’ game. It’s 11pm so I’ll just leave it standing with “Grandmaster wants to play with Thor”.  Okay, long ramble short:  TR starts out the way it does, until to the point where Loki falls from the portal and kicks Strange’s ass. They go to Norway, weird talk with Odin, Hela appears, kills Odin in front of Loki and Thor, crushes Mjölnir. Loki gets separated from Thor. Loki is in grief and horror, overcomes it by causing mischief and helping the slaves because they are in a similar boat. Hela is crueler than ever, fights the Warrior Four (yes, with Sif) but kills them as well. Thor ends up on Sakaar, fearing for his life and the one of the Aesir. He meets Loki who looks comparatively well rested. Weird ass talk in the dungeon but in better words, they start to argue and it comes to a fight between them, just pure strength, no other weapons. A tentative peace agreement between them. Loki tells Thor what Sakaar is about and they forge plans together. Loki manipulating Valkyrie into joining them because that’s what he’s good at.  Revolution on Sakaar, randomly collecting the Hulk who turns into Banner when he hears Natasha’s voice. Brother’s working and talking while getting the Grandmaster’s ship, Loki doesn’t ‘betray’ Thor because they have a plan - so no torture, no weird elevator talk either. Painful talks, painful realisations on both their sides, Thor gets shaken up more and more in the movie. They go back to Asgard, Heimdall is doing as much as he can but it’s not enough. Thor doubting himself but needing to pull himself together, Loki telling him everything will become better. Eventually. The battle scene with Thor and the Immigrant Song. Fighting Hela together, Loki distracting her first with his words then Thor cuts in and fiiiiiight, Thor loses his eye, fiiiiight, awesome choreos, Loki using his seird, tadaaaa, we’re all happy.  Battling Fenrir, killing him (poor bby), Thor tasks Loki with setting loose Ragnarök. The Aesir flee with Thor on the ARK, Loki comes a bit later.  Hug that we got denied. Thor and Loki being more brothers than ever before but Loki assuring Thor that he’d help him, guide him and Thor starts to trust him.
I guess. At least that’s what I would do currently? Then you could always still have IW happening, just Loki being a believable good fighter so he can’t be killed off like that, die a better death (he really doesn’t have to klajdfljl). Thor can still be crushed and destroyed by IW, leading to his new state of self in EG but with that he’d be ‘forced’ to look for Loki because there’s a different kind of bond between them. Movie more or less fixed. I guess.
Hope that answered your question? 😆 And I’m sorry this got so long, that really wasn’t my intention xDDD

AN: Hello, I reside in the lovely country of Aotearoa, more commonly known as New Zealand. That is why the way I've described school/high school differently. It is pretty similar to the US education system but just in case, here are a few guidelines:
-Year 13 is the last year in high school before we go to university. Primary=elemantary, intermediate/senior college=middle/high school.
-I've kinda mixed up the arrangement of the timetables in the US and NZ.
-None of this should cause you to rack your brain because you don't understand what's happening.
Hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: Everything belongs to the beautiful Sarah J Mass.
High School.
Ugh.
I stood three steps away from the threshold. Three steps forward and I would enter my first class in Year 13.
I didn't want to do it, but I also did. I wanted to finish high school so that I could go to college. Since I was thirteen, I'd wanted to just get it over with. Rush through primary, intermediate and then finally senior college. All so that I could fulfil my two dreams. Stanford University and a loving boyfriend. Cheesy, I know. But those were my dreams, deal with it. To study art at Stanford and to find a handsome boy there who would love and cherish me.
The second I knew I wanted to go there, I started saving up. And after five years of saving up every single note and coin I got, I'd finally done it. Yes, I would have to get a small-sized student loan and another loan from my parents(I insisted I give them back their money), but after all that money was put together, I would have enough for my first year plus tuition and then some. Once I settled in I would get a job or two and pay off the loans. It'd be perfect.
But to do those things, I had to finish high school first. So those three steps, I took.
Heading to my usual seat at the back, I took out my sketching book. I'd had a dream last of the sunset rising behind snow-capped mountains(I had no idea why) and wanted to get it down on paper before the picture got out my brain.
It barely took a minute before I was completely engrossed with my sketching. In fact, I got so occupied that I didn't realise how much time had passed before the bell rang. Jumping at the loud noise, I quickly shoved my sketching book into my bag and took out my maths book. But instead of taking the roll, the teacher called up a new student. "Tamlin, would you please come up here?" Miss Smith said to the golden-haired boy sitting two rows in front of me. He was quite handsome for his age. He was tan and muscled. I was willing to bet he was a jock, always playing basketball and football and all the other ball-sports. And weirdly enough, I had to resist a gasp when I saw his deep green eyes which were flecked with gold. They were quite pretty and unusual. Miss Smith flicked her red-gold over her shoulder. Everyone knew she was the school's slut-teacher. I shook my head in disgust, wondering why the heck the school still employed her. "Why don't you introduce yourself?" She asked, turning him to face the class. He looked over his shoulder at her, as if nervous, before turning to face the class. His Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed. But he didn't look nervous. He looked as he didn't feel like standing up at the front of the class, as if he were some showpiece to stare at. Understandable. "Umm. My name is Tamlin. I come from Christchurch. My parents decided to move here because of the earthquakes. I love basketball, and was the captain back at home." Knew it.
"Oh, he's so hot. It's like I want to eat him," A sickeningly sweet voice whispered. I slowly, incredulously turned my head to the left to find Ianthe sitting in the chair beside me. If Miss Smith was the teacher-slut, Ianthe was the student-slut. Those two must have slept with at least seventy-five per cent of the school's boy population by now. Can't wait 'till I get to Stanford.
Thankfully, Miss Smith didn't take long to start the class after that.
Just because my school wanted to be different then the others, they decided that instead of having a new class for every subject, there will be just one group of students and they will, together, move around to each class. This meant that I had to spend the rest of the day looking at and hearing Ianthe lust over Tamlin. I was the first student out of class when the bell for morning tea rung.
Ring!
I smiled to myself. Finally, lunchtime. As I was packing my bag, I heard Ianthe approach Tamlin, followed by her menagerie of friends. "Hey, Tamlin." She purred, twirling her blonde hair around a manicured finger. She had the Look. Mor and I had come up with the term a year or so ago. Whenever she was trying to woo someone or not-so-subtly inviting them to bed, she got the Look. Her eyes glazed and her voice became all breathy, with her skin seeming to glow with arousal. It was disgusting. I pitied Tamlin. "Do you want to come to my pool party tonight? There'll be food, booze, girls." She practically drawled the last part. She had a finger rapidly sliding down his t-shirt covered chest. Tamlin caught before it could go beneath his pants. To my surprise, Ianthe let out the tiniest of whimpers. Tamlin had such a tight grip, her fingers had gone white. "No thank you." He said, smiling tightly, just as his eyes flickered in my direction, sensing my gaze. I blinked and quickly looked down, but not before seeing his lips twitch up in a small smile. I quickly hurried out of the classroom.
I was in third in line, in the cafeteria, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked over my shoulder to find him there. He put his hand out for a handshake, "Tamlin."
My eyes widened before I got them under control. "Feyre," I breathed, taking his hand.
"Nice to meet you, Feyre." His smile was blinding. No one had ever made me this nervous before. I wished Mor or Nesta were here. Or even Elain. But Mor had taken the day off because she was sick. Nesta and Elain were down in Dunedin, studying literature and botany. So that left me. Alone. In front of the most beautiful man, I'd ever seen.
"N-nice to meet you, too." Why, why, why did I have to be such an introvert; why couldn't I be like Mor, all outgoing and loud and confident?
The smile grew, brightening up his face. My breath caught in my throat. "You needn't be so nervous. I'm not going to bite you or anything." I wish you would. His eyebrows rose. Shit, did I say that aloud? He nodded. I clamped my hand over my mouth. I really need to get my mouth under control. He chuckled, took my hand, and kissed my palm. A jolt of electricity ran through my body when his lips came in contact with my skin. It was a surprise enough that I snatched my hand from his, and spun around, probably hitting Tamlin in the face with my hair. The person in front of me was paying for his food. As the cafeteria lady came to serve me, I heard a light chuckle behind. I was unable to suppress my own small grin.
Ten and a half months later
Life was amazing, after that.
The week after the meeting, Tamlin sat with me in each class and during break time. He came with me to the art room when I felt like painting, or to the library when I needed to pick up or return a book. He stayed by my side the whole time.
And during all this, I got glares from Ianthe. The whole time, I could feel her rage coming off her in waves. Big, giant tidal waves.
Multiple times, she tried to take Tamlin away. But every time she asked, he turned her down, saying that he would rather spend time with me. I laughed every time, partly because of the expressions that would cross her face, but more because of Tamlin. Every time he told Ianthe no, he would add a word at the end. For example, "No Ianthe, I would rather spend time with the beautiful Feyre." "No thank you, I much rather appreciate the company of pretty Feyre, here." For the first few times, I blushed, looking away. But then it got funny, and I kinda wanted Ianthe to hit on him if only to hear what word he would use.
It was magic. I'd never felt like this. But I'd read about it. This is what I wanted. It was one of my dreams: a beautiful boy who would love and cherish me.
One week after that, he asked me out.
Two and a half weeks after that, he asked me to be his girlfriend.
One week after that, Ianthe stopped chasing Tamlin and upped the level of her death stares that she was still giving me. She tried to spread rumours about me, but every time they got out of hand, Tamlin shut them down. Either with his bold voice or hard fists.
Eight and a half months after that, we had sex. Were it for him, we would've done it long ago, but I wanted to wait. It was my first time. I couldn't help it; I was nervous. But I couldn't have asked for anything better than what he gave me. It was heavenly. For the first time, I felt like a real teenager, doing things that were normal at my age. Parties, drinking, sex. Of course, the only person I actually had sex with was Tamlin, and I was careful to stay away from the bad stuff like smoking and drugs, despite Tamlin pushing me towards those things. Mum would kill me if I ever did that stuff. Though it did surprise me a bit that Tamlin was into this stuff, what with him being a basketball player and all.
But that's not the point. The point is that I achieved one of my dreams. Yeah, it didn't go exactly as I had planned it, but I'd always believed everything happened for a reason. As did meeting Tamlin.
AN: Please review, it really helps me with motivation. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. The next chapter is going to be a lot more moving, trust me. Thanks for reading. You may find it surprising(but that not much) where I plan to take this story. Just know that ship Feysand and that this chapter is necessary for the story.

‘Split Enz On The Road’ story written for ‘Rip It Up’ magazine by lighting director, Raewyn Turner. Circa 1982.
“SPLIT ENZ – ON THE ROAD STORY
Raewyn Turner has been lighting director for Split Enz since 1975. She painted the cover for Frenzy and last year at Dennis Cohn Gallery exhibited drawings in her show entitled ‘On The Road Again’. Raewyn has written for Rip It Up, about behind-the-scenes- staging the 1982 Time And Tide tour of New Zealand.
Six months in a leaky boat and that story nears its end for the second time in two years, as Split Enz round the bend on their last lap of touring, finishing in New Zealand. The past five months have been a variety show, the star hosts mingle with us, briefly, from their conveyer belts, flanked by the extras who are directed to have walk-on and bit parts for the day. The many famed and fabled buildings and cities roll on the big rollers past the car windows, and lots of people pass us, in a hurry, to and fro, people with different accents, different smiles, clothes, lifestyles. While we sit and stand, walk and work, moving from car to aeroplane, airport to motel to theatre, the big rollers roll in the world’s projection room, on to the screens, which are our windows.
Split Enz, the audience, the judge, in the van with the video sensurround windows. The selection committee. In a chartered plane, seated in rows until a kind man appears and opens the exit door, ushering us into another windows room. We sit there, breathing in the muted greens and browns and admiring the blue sky, until we’re told to get out and into another room, where soft musak whispers that life is a breeze. Water flows from taps, milk is instant non-dairy whitener, food is but a phone call and an hour’s wait away, all-night television to lull to sleep, air comes from an air conditioner.
10.00 am on Monday, August 16 in Melbourne, and the band are making a film clip, ‘Never Ceases To Amaze Me’, that Noel has worked out with the director over long phone calls from Darwin. It doesn’t finish until 6.00 pm. Last night at the same time, the band had just come off stage, completing the last date of their Australian tour, an ‘Under-18s’ show in Melbourne.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 17
Melbourne, 7.00 am. Grant Thomas, the tour manager, dutifully makes wake-up calls and in six homes scattered over Melbourne, the entourage is busily preparing and packing to make the flight, leaving at 10.00 am to Auckland. 9.00 am we’re at the airport, tired and grizzly, only to learn that the plane has been delayed for five and a half hours. Back home for some more sleep, while the road crew opt to stay at the airport and busy themselves making badges to display their membership of an exclusive social club – the crew’s very own ‘Split Enz Sports And Social Club’ – crew only.
The same day, 10.30 pm, ‘arrive Auckland and proceed to Hamilton, going by the itinerary. Oops. Noel has left his bag at the airport, so we have to double back. Check into hotel, and the band settle for some sleep while I go down to the Founders Theatre to set up for the first show of the NZ tour. The stage set, which has some technical peculiarities, has to be explained and put up and the special effects projectors babied out of their case and wheeled around. Although the lighting plot was sent over a month in advance, the rigging, cabling and colouring of lamps takes forever on the first set up, so we do all but focus tonight. 6.00 am we call it quits and go back to the hotel for a few hours’ sleep. Laurie Bell, the production manager works on, there are many details to be taken care of before the stage and sound people begin work at 9.00 am.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18
Sound check is early, everyone expecs the first show to be difficult because of the new, unfamiliar NZ equipment – PA, foldback and lights. The Finn elders arrive, Finn cousins playing with the beach balls backstage.
The dressing room is newly painted and most of the band find they have severe headaches the next day. But battle dress donned, they take the stage with enthusiasm and anticipation, because it’s great to be on home soil. The audience is quiet, polite and serious. It’s been a whole year since Split Enz toured NZ and they’re playing new material, working hard. There are a few technical difficulties, but only minor ones. Back to the hotel for some hot chocolate with friends, before retiring.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 19
1.30 pm. Wake up, and Eddie and I go down to the theatre to work on improving our computer programmes (Eddie’s synthesisers are digitally controlled and store many different sounds in computer memories). Computers and synthesisers are relatively new developments and computers, like humans, were not designed for the rigours of the road. Just as Eddie wanders around his hotel, wondering where he is and what he is doing there, these computers become similarly vacant and he is often to be found in a state of panic, trying to reprogramme his sounds minutes before a show. The lighting desk computer is but 120 channels of memories which can be reprogrammed for particular lighting scenes or progressions of lighting changes. However, it too has a habit of becoming vacant, or worse, storing more than its share, which means it could reveal the total lighting show at the press of one memory button.
The sound crew have been working all day, trying ti iron out the creases in last night’s sound.
Ed and Noel go off for a walk into town, looking for water pistols. The Ed Water Pistol Collection has swelled to number 120 over three years.
Soundcheck, dinner – Noel enthuses over the six veges – back to the paintstricken dressing room an hour before the show, to put on the ‘cossies’ (costumes), paint the faces, discuss song lists, tell a few jokes, wet the whistle (or sip a lemonade), do armstretches and leg raises, eat some peanuts or whatever is offering in snacks. The show goes ‘averagely well’ (probably ‘very good’ in another’s words), but we have our own rating system.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 20
6.00 am, get up and drive to Auckland. The car breaks down on the way, but is fixed by a kind mechanic, free of charge. We feel that this could only happen in NZ. The production crew have been waiting outside the Logan Campbell Centre since 8.00 am, but the truck doesn’t arrive till 10. They begin work frantically and irritably, but still able to make light-hearted jokes, and the stage set slowly appears.
Meanwhile, Noel has gone to visit his folks. Tim and Neil arrive in Auckland with theirs, to spend the day together. Nigel, being the most boring (he is aware of the fact) member of the band, has experienced nothing of any interest whatsoever since arriving in NZ, not on this day, except for a sleepy interview with Colin Hogg. Eddie visits his sister and his friend Paul Crowther and they spend the rest of the day babbling about synths.
Backstage in the dressing room the champagne arrives – a greeting from the record company. The band have another of their ‘average’ performances, the crowd was ecstatic but the band are tired. The sound men aren’t feeling happy, so they make plans to spend all day tomorrow on improvements, to further dampen the echoes.
Back to the White Heron, now affectionately known as the Red Herring (no offence meant), for a few drinks with friends in the Carriage Bar. This is the first piece of glamorous living I’ve experienced for about a month or more – other people might call it just having a drink – but it means a lot being able to have the luxury of changing from work clothes to casual and being with friends.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 21
1.30 pm. Wake up and with Noel and Eddie go to Parnell Village where we have breakfast with Noel’s folks, who are in Auckland for both shows. A flying visit to a friend strapped in traction in hospital and it’s on to soundcheck and an early show.
Nigel has spent the day sleeping, jigging and walking, his three favourite pursuits. Neil and Tim are having dinner with their folks at the table over from us. They bribe the resident pianist into playing ‘Feelings’ as an after-dinner tribute to the band. (This song was on the top of the list for singing at the top of one’s voice while bumping along in a van through North America.)
SUNDAY, AUGUST 22
9.00 am. Depart the hotel for the airport, 9.55 flight departs Auckland for Palmerston North, without breakfast.
Tim feels detached from everything, and so opts for the hair-of-the-dog treatment, which will see him through until the end of the performance. The drinks backstage in the dressing room are there to be a starter motor, to kick a tired man into action. It’s an early show again, and it feels good to commence the performance about an hour after soundcheck. It’s still early enough to relax afterwards over dinner and watching TV.
MONDAY, AUGUST 23
10.30 am. Bags are being loaded into five cars, room bills are being paid, and we’re off to Christchurch. It’s a day off, everyone is anticipating what they’ll do, and probably they’ll do nothing. We’ve taken all the back seats in the plane and Ian Magan’s (tour promoter) Air New Zealand voice (fondly remembering “Ladies and gentleman, have you seen this?” on flights to London) booms from three seats away. Tonight he has promised the entourage a free dinner.
Eddie and I miss the free dinner – we’ve been invited to his brother’s house. This is one of the advantages of this job – seeing family and friends in all corners of the world at least once a year – where distance and fares would normally prohibit this. The visits are, however, usually too short and sweet.
The band enthuse over the selection of old cars in ‘perfect condition’ being driven around Christchurch, reeling off the makes as we drive around. Austin, Morris, Zephyr, Vanguard… Tim’s been after a Studebaker and is delighted to hear that people in the entourage have spotted three so far. Back home the Split Enz Club boasts a green FJ Holden (Neil’s), a black Mark II Zephyr (Tim’s), a pink Morris Major Elite 1963 (Eddie’s), a 1950 Black Triumph Renown (Noel’s) and a brown 1954 Fiat station wagon (Nigel’s).
Today Noel went shopping and got the costumes drycleaned. Nigel went for a five-hour walk along the Avon, Neil joined the road crew for a trip to the snow, there they used big plastic rubbish bags for sliding down hills and threw snow at each other.
Tim stayed in and did an interview, then cruised around, went for a walk, I think. Ed, Clark Flannigan (Polygram Records’ man on tour) and I finally got ourselves away from the hotel and went swimming at the QEII pool. It’s the first day of the school holidays and Ed and Clark get swallowed up in the crowds queuing for the hydrotubes. Clark can do 50m overarm in 35 seconds, he tries out the high diving board, but Ed and I only manage the lowest. End of day off.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 24
7.00 am. Get up, shower and down to the Christchurch Town Hall by 8.00 am. It’s a beautiful day, warm with blue, blue skies, the smell of blossom, cold air and woodsmoke, peculiar to NZ.
The stage set is constructed quickly and looks good. I’d anticipated, with sinking stomach feelings, that as far as equipment and organisation of technical details go, the NZ section would be the worst and most difficult of this six-month tour (probably because it has previously been that). However, there have been vast improvements made in the expertise of the hired technical personnel and in the equipment to be found here since we toured last year. It has taken a lot of hard work to elevate it to this level, and although the equipment is different to the systems currently available in Australia, this in no way makes for a compromise situation.
At 10.30 am, I offer to get the food – three dozen donuts, one dozen cream buns, three dozen filled rolls, a bag of apples. We work on until 4.00 pm and soundcheck is at 4.30. After a while, the band drift into playing their oldies, searching for the perfect replacement for ‘Hard Act’, which they’re sick of.
The band are tired. After five months of constant touring and only two weeks off in the period – no weekends – they are finding it hellish to think clearly and with enthusiasm about their shows. They want to try a new set, a different way of playing particular songs, but the energy somehow keeps being channelled the same way. They shone for the Auckland shows and will probably shine for the rest, but they try to break out of their feelings of exhaustion and automatic gear.
Tonight’s performance is once again good, although lacking the fire that the band are striving hard to produce. The audience is enthusiastic. The band and crew and managers return to the hotel bar, where we tell each other jokes until the small hours, winding down for sleep after a long day.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25
8.00 am. Woken by chainsaws, jackhammers and the noise of concrete being made in a wheelbarrow. These are quite regular occurrences in hotels where we have stayed, so I drift back to sleep. But Eddie has had enough and has decided to move over to the posh hotel, where Tim and Neil have recently moved, to escape the noise. The hotel is twice the price and offers a complimentary morning newspaper, but we prefer the squat NZ motels, having spent too long in high-rise hotels, with Coffee-Mate (powdered non-dairy whitener) for ea milk.
Soundcheck at 4.30, still the search for the perfect song replacement. ‘In The Wars’, ‘Jamboree’, ‘Under The Wheel’ and a few others are fiddled with and discarded.
Tim, Neil, Eddie and I drive off for dinner and discuss our fatigue and the artistic value (or not) of the song produced under pressure of having to be sold by a record company. The issue of touring arises and they talk about giving it up in Australia and NZ for two years, except for the occasional ‘spectacular’ – an alternative that would provide opportunity for lots of ideas to be exercised. Or perhaps they’d like to do a film, taking a year off to make it and write songs, using that period to develop their musical ability as individuals.
Showtime, the crew are lying around on couches drinking coffee and the first band are pounding away. Eddie is in the dressing room playing his other favourite song, ‘Loving You’ by Minnie Ripperton, accompanied by Neil singing. He breaks away into Chopin.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 26
A day off for some, but the three lighting technicians leave Christchurch at 9.00 am and arrive at Invercargill at 7.00 pm. (The truck has a sleep and they take turns at driving.) The rest of the crew fly down at 11.00 am and spend the rest of the day in the hotel’s spa pool. At 8.00 pm, Laurie, Glen (the set and projects man) and three loaders unpack the truck, having first to remove a fleet of five city council vans that were parked across the stage door. Glen gets to work putting up the stage set and is back at the hotel by 11.00 pm.
Tim, Neil, Clark, Eddie and I have made plans to drive to Akaroa for some fish and chips and scenery, but Eddie and I spend until 2.00 pm buying second-hand furniture for future use, by which time Clark isn’t to be found. The free day has just about slipped away. We make rearrangements with the cars and Tim and Neil go to Akaroa. Noel, Eddie and I take a drive that meanders along a peninsula beyond Lyttleton, and we end up driving along a tractor path up a mountainside. The green pastures, trees in blossom, the mountain and valleys, we can’t wait to settle back here and enjoy the countryside. Tim and Neil return with tales of spectacular scenery, quite in awe of the beauty of the countryside. Neil, in surprise, says it’s always so much better than he’s remembered. Of course, all this talk about ‘nature’ crops up in our conversations especially after a few months on the road, staying in orange and purple hotel rooms. At the same time, the touring lifestyle has another advantage – it provides the blinkers and forces a total commitment to work.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 27
9.00 am. Wake up call from Grant, we move quickly and tiredly into the day.
Arrive Invercargill and greeted by an over-officious officer on the sidewalk at the airport. Magan has an argument with him and Neil throws him a coin as we drive away. Later, Magan receives a speeding ticket from the same officer.
Stop off on the way to the hotel, at the art gallery for a typical photo of the band posing next to a huge anchor for the local papers.
I go straight to work. The crew, having become accustomed to the equipment, are working very fast these days and focus is early. The set works well in the Civic Centre, because the tiers of balconies tower over the stage, which is shallow and therefore the sail has a steep incline. I don’t have a good show, getting my fingers jammed in the faders, despite a grand performance by the projector operators, Glen and Keith, who are by now quite skilled.
Noel apparently just about falls backwards off his drums, fatigued and the rest of the band are tired. But there are only 11 more shows to do, so they attack each one with enthusiasm.
After the show, the musos’ club is less than hospitable, hassling the band at the door. Eddie, Tim and Neil leave and end up helping Magan, who is hosting a three-hour radio show.
The road crew have busily packed clean socks for the Saturday soundcheck before heading off to Queenstown in search of the thrillseeker jetboats. Bed.
Part two of this feature will appear in next months ‘R.I.U’.”

hey ralph! i was wondering if we could talk about charities. i totally agree with you that there's a lot of charities that revolve around helping individuals (or blaming them, in your words) while ignoring the structural problems that put them in that situation in the first place. so my honest question is: how is in your opinion the best way for a charity organization to approach those issues with social responsability? since they don't really have the power to actually fix everything. +++
(2) and do you have any examples of charities that have this philosophy vs charities that are harmful? also, what do you think we as individuals can do to help fixing some of this issues? both us middle class people or millionaires like the boys. because while i do agree with the things you said on the subject, i always thought that even if i unfortunately cant solve anything by donating at least i might make someone's life a little bit better or easier; i believe that's what the boys +++
(3) and especially harry view charities. (the obvious difference is they have way more power in that matter than i could ever have). sorry if this is long or doesn't make a lot of sense, i just think about it a lot because i know celebrities and rich people in general should be doing so much more, but i'm not really sure how, and i really like reading your opinions. also english is not my first language so forgive me if i may have used some inadequate words or expressions +++
(4) - i know you're very particular about that. thank you for always questioning everything; while i may disagree with a lot of things it's so important to have a voice like yours in this fandom and i hope you know that there are people who value that, even though your inbox doesn't always show it. have a great day
************
Thanks for these asks anon - they’re really interesting.  And thank you for your love.  I don’t take ridiculous asks as indicative of much and I do take interesting one’s as a sign people are engaged with my blog.
I think I start from a slightly different premise from you.  In general, I don’t think rich people should be doing more.  Rich people tend to be rich because of the harm they are doing to the world and one of the functions of charitable work is to obscure this reality (this is why google camp has me talking about the guillotine).
In Harry’s case (and other 1D members and big touring musicians in general), a huge part of their wealth comes from the production of merch in wildly exploitative and damaging ways.  The supply chain involved in producing merch involves huge environmental damage, horrific working conditions (including substantial levels of violence and sexual violence), poverty wages and direct attacks on union organising when people try and improve their wages and conditions. There’s no way Harry (or anyone else in his position) could undo the damage done in the production that makes him wealthy, by giving a fraction of that wealth away.
(I know there are people who will immediately widen out this specific point. My worldview is that the people who are responsible for the harm done by production are those who control it (even indirectly through subcontracting) and who collect the profit.  Consumers, and other workers in the production process, do not control production or benefit from it and pretending that individuals who buy things are responsible for the damage caused in their production is an ideological project to hide who actually has power and wealth).
There’s another distinction I’d like to make - I think that some charities that present themselves as helping individuals also blame them for their position use rhetoric (or practices) that blame them for being in that situation, but not all do.  One of the things that really struck me about the donations Harry chose to support on tour was that as soon as he hit America the rhetoric got much more right-wing and blaming individuals.  Up till America a lot of the charities were like ‘people don’t have this thing - we provide it’.  When you got to America the charities all described themselves as not just providing things for people, but improving them (for example rather than just giving people who are hungry food, they’ll talk about encourage people to make better choices.  Even the LGBTQ charity he supported talked of pathways to independence).  That idea that working-class people, poor people, people without resoruces, disenfranchised people, need to be changed - that’s what I object to and think is wildly reactionary and harmful.
To talk in slightly more positive terms - I actually think if you have resources and you’re figuring out how to help ‘Let’s make someone happy today’ is a good starting point. Give money to homeless people, pay into people’s gofundme accounts, buy sick and disabled kids playstations. If the problem is that people’s needs aren’t being met, then meet those needs, don’t suggest that people need to be changed so they can get their needs met.  If you want to be a little bit systematic than giving coins to people you see on the street - then look for charities that are unconditional in what they do, rather than those that try and draw distinctions between the deserving and undeserving poor (Harry promoted some sort of running for the homeless charity that was the absolute opposite of this - to the extent that just thinkign about it’s existence makes me apoplectic with rage).
(Incidentally, there is research to suggest that when people’s needs are met in an unconditional way it’s much easier to make changes they want to make in their own lives. That programmes that think that homeless people need to be transformed are nowhere near as transformative as programmes that give homeless people a house.  But for me that’s incidental - the reasons I’ve discussed in the paragraphs above are more important.)
You mentioned thinking about Harry saw charity.  I don’t think we can tell - particularly not in the terms that I’m talking about. He’s supported a range of charities, including those that operate on a hugely controlling model.  I agree that he probably wants to help and I suspect his ideas about what that mean would seem incoherent and wrong to me.  It’s notable that a programme that kept services from homeless people unless they went for a run didn’t set off any red flags for him.
To give a more personal answer - I tend to see money as a form of solidarity.  I don’t tend to give to super large organisations, because the chances that they’ll do things I disagree with increases exponentially. There are organisations that combine meeting people’s needs with advocacy that I think are really worth supporting.  For example in NZ welfare advocacy organisations help ensure people get their entitlements and help in really important ways.  But they then learned a lot about what is wrong with the system and can use that knowledge to advocate for change.  Organisations that meet refugee and migrants needs and advocate on their behalf were vital to exposing the Windrush scandal here in the UK.  Finding these sorts of organisations
I also think it’s important to look beyond charities (charitable status can be very limiting) and giving money to those who need it to sustain their struggles. Give money to workers who are on strike.  Contribute to the legal costs of people who are being targetted because they’re fighting for a better world. (There’s an important history of politically aware  entertainers doing both these things - although of course the mass contributions of people with much less money have always been more important).
But the bigger question, the one I think you’re ultimately asking is how can I change the world? Your money (even if you’re comfortably middle class) is not the most important thing you can contribute.  The most important thing you can do is join together with other people around you and collectively try and .  Join a union if you’re an employee, get together with other renters if you’re a renting, fight to change a law that fucks you over.  Widen your solidarity to people who are facing different struggles, but have similar enemies.  We can have a better world - people have fought and won in the past and will in the future - and they’ve done it by working together.
