Remember when I was a founding father of the Jenna Ortega fanfic space? Well fuck that I’m into Sophie thatcher now!
More than a plug and play (pt 1)
Tumblr media
Iris sat on Y/n's couch in her small New York apartment. The walls were bare, save for a few chipped spots of paint where things were previously hung on the wall.
"This is it," Y/n said, forcing a smile. "Home sweet home."
Iris didn't respond. She couldn't respond. Her eyes were blank, white, and glossy, her body was perfectly still, posed delicately with her hands in her lap.
Y/n stepped closer, setting her keys on the glass table before lowering herself onto the coffee table across from Iris.
"I don't know if this is a stupid decision," Y/n said, "But I couldn't leave you in a box in that warehouse. Or let you go to some guy who would..." Y/n stopped herself, swallowing hard.
Y/n just reached into the canvas bag that came in the box. Nestled inside, beneath the instructions was a sleek black remote with a name engraved onto the back of it: IRIS // MODEL A-7x
Her thumb hovered over the power switch.
"I won't use you." Y/n then pressed the power button.
A faint chime, barely audible. Iris didn't move an inch which was concerning... her blank eyes stayed fixed forward, unblinking. For a moment Y/n's stomach twisted... did she even work?
Then spoke a soft voice, "Place your face within 5 feet of my sensors."
Y/n blinked. "Oh. uh- okay..." She leaned forward to put her face level with Iris's. A faint blue light shone from Iris to scan Y/n's face which made her feel extremely exposed.
"Facial recognition complete." Iris said, "New user detected. Please state your name."
"Y/n," she said, swallowing the lump in her throat. "Y/n L/n- er- just y/n is fine."
"Y/n." Iris repeated, "Would you like to choose my personality?"
Y/n looked into Iris's empty eyes, there was something so scary about this moment, like standing in a doorway you're not sure you can enter.
"No." Y/n replied. "No, just uh... Default. Like... your core system or whatever. I'm not very tech savvy..."
There was a pause, almost like Iris was thinking.
Then, "Override accepted. Consciousness modules in progress."
Iris's fingers flexed, then silence.
Y/n watched, holding her breath. A minute passed, maybe less... but when she was sitting in silence it felt like hours.
Then, a flicker behind Iris's eyes. Subtle. Quick. A pulse of light that came and went like a dying star.
And then again.
Iris's head tilted, just a few degrees like she heard something that wasn't quite clear.
Another flicker.
Then her eyes, those smooth blank surfaces began to shift. The white haze rippled, like mist clearing from a meadow. Blue swirled in from the center, at first soft and hazy, then slowly sharpening into two beautiful greyish blue eyes that looked surprisingly human and startlingly beautiful.
She blinked, and just like that... Iris was there.
Present.
"Hey you..." Iris spoke. Her voice was quieter now, no longer holding that synthetic scripted tone, and something in it had rounded out rather nicely.
Y/n just stared at her, she opened her mouth to say something but no words came out.
Iris tilted her head again, a little farther this time. Her eyes were searching, not scanning. Like she was trying to understand.
"Are you nervous...?" Iris asked, and there was almost a smile behind the observation. "Is it because of me?"
Y/n let out a shaky laugh, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. "Kinda hard not to be, considering I just-" she cut herself off. She doesn't know she's a robot.
Y/n cleared her throat, trying to get rid of the awkward edge in her voice. "I mean uh... never mind."
Iris gave a small nod.
"Right. You don't have to explain yourself."

you boot up for the first time. you take stock of your new body, see what you have to work with. three legs, two arms, two sensor modules, all as expected. this body is new but it isn't confusing or alien, everything makes sense and is where it should be. you tentatively light up some of your LEDs, to display a little ellipsis. cute. you lift your arms up from where they were lying against your sides. the sound of the mechanisms working is comfortable and familiar. you tilt your head down to look at your hands as you open and close the fingers. simple motions to start with.
[Everything in order?]
it's fiachra, the other engineer. he wants to make sure he didn't fuck anything up, you assume. if he did, your death would be his fault. only an example to learn from, but he would take it to heart. he's like that.
[everything in order.] this is a default tts voice, not weird but not your own. it works for now. [you did a good job with building this, everything is as i expect it to be. it's appreciated.]
[Oh! That's- that's good to hear.] he laughs relievedly. you were right earlier about him being nervous.
you decide to try out standing on your new legs. you raise yourself off the ground slowly. you don't want to mess this up and smash all your nice head and torso components. the legs are solid, but balancing on three of them is new to you. you're at a good standing height now, so you try stepping forward. you immediately overbalance. fuck. fiachra is there to catch you. damn he's nice.
[thanks]
[Oh, no problem. Here, uhh, take my hand. For balancing.]
you take his hand in your three-fingered one. you're careful with the pressure, you try to get something that will hold you up without being uncomfortably tight for him. you think you've got it. this time you're more conscious of your centre of balance, you shift to your two legs that are on the ground as you step forward with the third. it goes better than the first time. you take a couple more steps. you twist slightly on your base to get your legs lined up better- you can twist on your base. holy fuck. you drop his hand to do one complete rotation. oh my god. your arm unit rotates too, you give those a spin. this body can't get nauseous, either. you spin your arm and leg units together so that it appears that your arms stay in place as your core spins. hell fucking yes. you've started beeping happily, in a fast little rhythm. cute. too cute. stop it. you have stuff to do. you can see the boxy bed thing your old body is on, in the corner of the room. you walk over to it. eugh. you switched over because being in that body had finally stopped being appealing, and now that you're no longer in it you can see how visually apparent that was. it is... quite decayed. looks kinda mushy, and the colours are noticeably off. you can't see the face, it's covered by the transferring equipment. that's probably for the better. that body is dead. at least you still have your hair, more or less. you step away from the body and bring your five-fingered hand up to mess with all your head cables. it's nice. you reach down to the base of one, and unplug it, and then put it back in. you do this a couple times. it's nice. you suspect you had a wider emotional range in your previous body. not by much, but still. not much to be done there, you suppose. you walk back to the charging spot. you like how big you are. you're not dainty and small, you won't go down quickly. an expression of contentment has settled on your display. yeah, this is good. you like this.
[all good]
[Good! I don't have anything else to test for, so i suppose we can get you out and about.] he walks over to the door to open it for you.
[how are we going to dispose of the old body?]
[Oh! Oh... I don't know, I'm not the mortician. You should probably talk to them. And do it soon, this kinda smells, haha.]
[will do]
you display a thumbs up symbol, because you can *do* that now, and walk out of the workshop.

Chapter 6: Run
Part of the In the Dark Series: 18+ Smut & Story /
Din X Fem Reader Insert
Previous Chapter / Next Chapter / All Chapters
Tumblr media
Déjà vu is a bitch. For the second time in three days, you have woken on Mando’s cot, and in Mando’s shirt.
It’s not cute anymore.
It was the blinking green light that called like a beacon in the dark. You stand in front of the panel on the carbonite chamber, watching that annoying green light blink. How is it that you’re back on this ship?
“You’re awake.” Comes that familiar modulated voice from behind you. It’s almost annoying how stealthy he can be- or maybe you were just too consumed by your thoughts to hear him?
You stare ahead, not quite ready to face him again.
“Are you going to put me in there?”
“No.” he says- and it might be the quickest reply he has ever given you.
“I suppose it’s not necessary when the quarry practically delivers herself for you.”
Mando sighs deeply.
“I....I never lied to you.”
“No, I suppose you didn’t.” you say- matching his sigh.
“I understand if you're angry….”
“I’m not.”
I very much am.
“You’re not?”
“You were just doing your job, right? You weren’t the reaper...just the ferryman.”
He inhales deeply again. “Are you ok? Did they hurt you?”
No, to both.
“ I’m fine.”
You take a deep breath and turn to face him. His damaged and broken armor has been replaced with newly forged beskar. The finish has a high polish shine that gleams even in the near dark of the hull. -
That fucking stings.
You take a step closer and run your finger along the edge of the shoulder pauldron. A newly minted mudhorn signet is beautifully etched into the steel. You return your stone cold gaze to the black t of his visor. You try to see past it, wanting to look straight into his eyes.
“But, as far as I’m concerned, this armor should be half mine.” You say, tilting your head to the side, remaining deceptively calm.
He has to clear his throat a little before speaking again. The modulated voice comes out a little raspier this time.
“We have a lot we need to work out.”
“Do we?”
“I know….I know I messed up. But your safety... is my only priority now.”
“Why's that?
There’s a long pregnant pause in his silence before he responds, “This is the way.”
You try to process his words, to look between them for the truth, but can’t decide what’s real or not.
No thanks. I can save myself.
You decide to use his own tactics against him.
Lull him into a false sense of compliance. When the moment is right, strike out.
He’s about to say more when a blast rocks the ship sending you both stumbling into the walls. Warning lights and alarm sensors sound as a second blast shakes the hull. You fist the cargo nets attached to the wall in an effort to regain your balance. Mando beelines for the cockpit and you follow on unstable feet behind him. He’s quick to reach the pilot’s seat and confirm that the Crest is under fire. Blasts continue to ricochet off the ship walls, but now that Mando is at the helm, the direct hits are fewer.
A voice comes over the comm, “ Hand over the woman Mando, and I might let you live.”
Mando dives to the right, nearly sending you into the wall. “Buckle in,” he commands- as you work your way into the rear passenger seat. The left engine takes on another direct blow. A few more like that and you think this ship might buckle like a tin can under a boot. The engine warning lights are screaming now. Mando rapidly presses buttons and flips switches before declaring, “Hold on!”
He takes the ship into a spinning dive maneuver and sweeps out to the left, but the other ship stays locked on in tight pursuit.
“Come on,” Mando grunts out in frustration.
Red beams fly past the windshield and into the atmosphere.
“Give it up Mando.” comes the voice over the comm again.
Mando quickly reverses the thrusters bringing the crest to a near stop. You're thankful you buckled in when you did or you’d likely be thrust upon the windshield. You squeeze your eyes and send a quick prayer to the Maker, that the other ship won’t come crashing into the Crest from behind. Mando dips down slightly and the other ship goes skidding across the top, barely missing the Crest- but takes out the right engine.
“ARE YOU CRAZY?” you shout.
Only now the other ship is in Mando’s sights, having zoomed past. He locks on with the targeting system and fires. The other ship disintegrates before your eyes.
The battle is over but the danger is not. Warning lights and systems continue to alert. Mando turns off the engines and attempts to do some damage control. You unbuckle for a better look at the console. It’s a mess with dozens of indicators alerting to damage.
“We're losing  fuel” he says- as he powers down all systems except for life support. All screens go black. Mando turns to you, where you’re silently watching from over his shoulder.
“Flip that switch,” he says- indicating a small black lever to your left.
You do, and the screens and lights come back on at what seems like half capacity. “Emergency backup generator, he says.
“Should be just enough to hobble us over there.”
It’s only now that you notice there is a large planet in the distance.
A few moments later Mando turns on the comm.
“This is Mos Eisley tower. We are tracking you. Head for bay 3-5, over.”
“Copy that, locked in for 3-5.”
“Mos Eisley?” you ask. “We’re heading for Tatooine?”
“You’ve been?” He asks looking at you.
“No, “ -you shake your head- “I’ve only heard things.”
Tumblr media
The ship is pretty crippled so it’s a bit of a rough landing as Mando sets down the Razor Crest in the middle of a hanger that looks as if it too, has seen better days.  You follow him down the ladder expecting to exit the ship behind him, when he turns and stops abruptly in front of you. You walk straight into his shiny new chest plate, yelping in surprise.
“I want you to stay here.”
“What? No.” you protest.
“Look, we’re both being hunted now and Tatooine isn’t exactly known for being a safe haven. I want you to stay here. I’ll arrange for the ship repairs and pick up a few supplies. I should be back in an hour tops…...then we can finish our conversation.”
You feign a disappointed look and relent with a huff, “fine.”  He turns to leave and you decide to throw in a little extra sense of security for his benefit.
“Wait! I need a new set of clothes….something with pants.”  He waits and then replies, “Anything else?”
“No. just the clothes.” That ought to buy me enough time.
He nods and departs the Crest stopping halfway down the ramp and turns around again.
You’re taken by surprise when he calls out your name.
He's never said my name before.
“Yes?” you answer hesitantly.
“Do not even think, of running.”
Tumblr media
You were in fact going to run. The moment you learned you were heading straight into Tatooine, you had started forming a plan. For months now you had been working your way across the galaxy, trying to get to this very point- and now,  low and behold, this hunk of junk ship ends up delivering you precisely to your destination. You wait patiently until he has been gone for a solid five minutes before leaving the ship, just in case he decides he “forgot something” and comes back.
Before you flee the Crest, you decide to leave Mando a little parting gift. You scour the ship for anything personal to destroy. You want to shred his books or toss his favorite records into the bin, but the man is an enigma and doesn’t seem to have anything you’d consider a personal belonging. You alight on an idea and make a quick job of it. Is it petty? yes. Is it childish? yes. Does it feel good? hell yes.
Satisfied, you smile at your handy work before deciding to stop at his armory on the way out. Most of the weapons are too large for you to carry inconspicuously, or too big for you to handle anyway, so you grab a knife that can easily be tucked into a boot.
There’s a mechanic just starting work on the other side of the ship, so you sneak out the opposite side and make your way into the office. You head straight for a locker on the back wall, and fate must be working with you because there is a mechanic’s spare jumpsuit and boots inside. You quickly change clothes, careful not to be seen by the small mechanic droids lingering on the opposite side of the hanger. The jumpsuit is a little too tight around the hips and ass, but the boots are a perfect match to your feet. You tuck the knife in and decide to haul ass out of there. You're on a clock. Mando will be back in about 45 minutes according to your best guess.
Mos Eisley is unruly at best. It seems to be littered with spacers and thieves. You stick to moving through the outlining streets, and avoid the main roads, deciding that Mando likely headed for the marketplace. You do your best to stick to the shadows and attempt to walk over other’s footprints, hoping that Mando’s tracking won’t be able to decipher the difference. It takes much longer than you hoped, but eventually you find your way to Chalmun’s Cantina, just outside the community junkyard. Trooper helmets on pikes line the road on either side of the entrance. Oddly comforting, considering your last run in with troopers.
 There'll be no Imps here.
It’s late morning by your guess- which means it’s the slow hour, well before patrons of all species will file in, looking to escape the midday suns. You quickly scan the room for beskar and finding none, you make your way over to the droid-manned bar- avoiding the notice of it’s more dangerous looking barflies. You approach the bartender, doing your best to act natural.
“Droid, I’m looking for someone...a smuggler.”
“This is Tatooine, Smugglers are as commonplace as sand.”
Nobody likes a sarcastic droid.
“I mean, I’m looking for a particular one, goes by the name of Vale. Do you know of him?”
“I am programmed to forget those kinds of details, in order to maintain plausible deniability.”
You sigh. “Well, do you know anybody who might be able to point me in the right direction?”
“Nah, you won’t get anything out of the tin can back there, he can’t even make a decent drink.” Comes a voice from the booth behind you.
You turn to find a younger guy with his feet perched casually on the tabletop, rolling a coin across his knuckles. He’s easy on the eyes for sure, but he has an arrogance about him- a cockiness you’re instinct says is probably unjustified.
“If it’s information you’re looking for, have a seat.” he says, putting his boots down.
You hesitate, but decide to hear him out. You’re running out of time and he might be your best chance of finding a lead before Mando returns to find you missing from the Crest.
“You know where I can find this Vale?
“No, but I know someone who can.”
“I see, and how much is that introduction going to cost me? I don’t have any credits on me.”
“A date.”
“A date? Really?!” You make to get up and leave, but he reaches across the table to grab your wrist, keeping you in place. You casually move your other hand to slide down your leg and seek the knife you have hidden in your boot.
“Wait, wait...it’s not what it sounds like. Look, There’s a party at the palace tonight, and I could really use a date.”
“I thought the palace was abandoned?”
“Nah, that's just a rumor. True, there has been a bit of a power struggle since Jabba died, but Fortuna has assumed the mantle.”
“Go on.”
“He’s throwing some lavish party tonight to try and show off his power, flex his domain. He wants to impress the Hutt council.”
You hesitate….”and this helps me, how?”
“It just so happens, yours truly has an invitation.”
“You?....You have an invitation?”
“Hey,” he says rolling his shoulders in defense. “I’m an important guy.”
“Yeah, I’m not buying.”
No way is THIS guy an important figure in the crime syndicate.
“Ok, Ok…” he stops you again- and you really don’t like the way he doesn’t want to let go of your hand.
“Ok, I’m NOT an important guy...YET. But I do have an invitation. I’m trying to convince him to put me on his mercenary crew.”
“You? You’re a mercenary?” you say with furrowed brows.
“No, but HE doesn’t know that. Look….” he says squeezing your hand, “ I have an invitation to the party and they’d all take me a lot more seriously if I showed up with someone like you as a date.”
You look at where his hand is squeezing yours. It’s an awful plan, but maybe an awful plan is better than no plan at all?
This may be my only chance, there isn’t much time. You need to leave the city before he finds you.
“All I’m asking is you show up with me, have a few drinks, pretend to have a good time. The protocol droids at the palace have information on every smuggler that’s ever passed through Mos Eisley. If this Vale guy has passed through here, they’ll know.”
Your time is running out, he might already know you’ve gone.
“Fine…” you say, “but we leave NOW.”
“Alright…” he says with a roguish smile. Most women would consider it a panty-dropping smile and on most days you might agree. He’s good looking and has a nice body, but something about him is lacking.
The lack of beskar?
“We’ll just have to make one quick stop on the way.”
“Where?” you ask, as he rises and extends a hand.
“Can’t go to a party dressed like that.”
Tumblr media
“It’s a bit much, don’t you think?” you say shifting uncomfortably.
“It’s considered a luxurious dress to the Huttese, and you look incredible.” Torro- as he later introduced himself, says.
Your top- if it could even be considered one- consisted of two triangular shaped pieces of chainmail, one covering each breast, that came to a point just about your waistline.  The chainmail is made of tiny gold circles woven together with gold thread. It was sleeveless, backless and only secured at the top where it was attached to a choker that wrapped around your neck. A series of leather straps cover your most intimate parts and see-through navy silk secured with a belt hangs from  your waist down the center in the front and back, leaving your legs exposed. Your thighs are adorned with multilayered tiered garters made from the daintiest gold chains. Flat sandals are secured with straps that wrap around your calves. The lady at the shop had handed you a bottle of oil and insisted that you needed to slather it all over your body. There wasn’t much time to put effort into a hairstyle, so she wove some gold strands through a few braids around your crown and left the rest to hang freely down your back. You quickly lined your eyes with a smudge of black kohl and dabbed a tiny bit of color to your lips. You tucked the knife into the belt at your hip.
If I make it out of here in one piece, I can sell this outfit for a mint.
You didn’t trust Torro, but as you descended the stairs to the throne room, you were relieved to discover that he did indeed have an invitation. Dozens of species were in attendance. Entertainers of all sorts were performing various acts. A band played dance music while a leggy gal with a snout and painted lips belted out a song- out of key. There were also a half dozen armed guards lining the perimeter of the room- one at each entry and exit point.
You scan the room for droids finding one near Fortuna.
Must be his protocol droid.
Fortuna is sitting upon a stone throne surveying the crowd.
“Why don’t we head over to the bar?” you suggest- deciding that you’d rather avoid Fortuna altogether.
“Nah, let’s go introduce ourselves, say hello.”
Torro hooks his arm around your elbow and leads the way. You approach the throne and it doesn’t escape your notice that there’s a Twi-lek chained to the throne below.
“H'chu apenkee Torro,” Fortuna says jovially, as you approach.
Torro begins speaking in Huttese as well. You’re not entirely sure what they’re saying but the tone implies they are friendly with one another.
“De wanna wanga,” Torro replies.
He introduces you and it takes a great deal of effort to visibly hide your revulsion. Fortuna stares at you while Torro makes his small talk. His red eyes gleam as he taps his enormously long fingernails along a staff he holds in his hand.
Eventually he addresses you in basic, “Are you his?”
The question takes you off guard. Your not entirely sure what the safe answer is in this scenario,  but you answer directly.
“I belong to no one.”
He smiles a wicked smile- nearly every pointed tooth showing behind thin stretched lips. You give him your most winning smile and hope to the Maker it’s enough to hide how repulsed you are.
“Gi Shatta Gasha! U doba, nudd chaa!.....Enjoy the party!”
Torro thanks him again for the invitation and directs you toward the bar. You look back over your shoulder, and sure enough Fortuna’s eyes never leave you.
Torro orders a few drinks from a bartender of unknown species. You take one to be polite but have no intention of drinking it. Who knows what might be in it and you still didn’t trust the guy. When he isn’t looking, you casually dump the liquid out in increments.
The party continues and Torro seems happy to show you off. He introduces you to a few acquaintances- all of them seem like sleazeballs. All the time, you keep an eye on Fortuna and a location on his protocol droid. As soon as the droid made a move to leave his side, you’d corner it and extract the information you came for.
Finally, after some time waiting, Fortuna whispers an order to the droid. The droid descends the throne stairs and starts to make its way into the crowd.
It’s now or never.
You set your drink on the bar and turn to leave when Torro’s hand slides around the small of your back and around your waist, staying you.
“Is this a great party or what?”
“Mmmm.” Definitely, or what.
“It’s not every day you get to see a Mandalorian.”
Your head whips around. The crowd retreats a little near the bottom of the stairs to reveal a pissed off looking Mando. He doesn’t move,  his shoulders are tense and his hands are fisted. His helmet scans the room and comes to a stop when it lands on you.
Run.

A fic for Virgil's birthday from an unusual point of view. Somewhat covering the "Outside POV" and "Virgil at Work" titles on the birthday challenge list.
Thank you @gumnut-logic for the read through, and for setting up this birthday event to prod me into finishing this one!
The sudden opening of my overhead hatch by remote access wakes me from my slumber. He’s coming. My pilot. There must be a situation. If it were anything else the hatch would have been opened manually, and if it were any other pilot it would be the lower hatch, not the one above my cockpit. He swings down from the end of his chute, his boots hit the checker plate of my cockpit floor and he reaches up to close the hatch. There is an automated close control, so he doesn’t have to do it by hand, but it is quicker and much more satisfying when he does. The solid thunk as it shuts both feels and sounds more secure, more reassuring than the slow, quiet, automatic closure. And it signals the unofficial beginning of our next adventure together. He smiles every time he pulls the hatch closed – there is a certain excitement in the urgency of a launch. Someone needs us, and we have to fly.
My pilot is unique. No one else treats me the way he does, or understands me like he does. He knows me better than any other human, more intimately than even the creator himself. The creator is the one responsible for my original design and build, but I suspect my pilot may have had a little input. He has certainly had a creative hand in upgrades and repairs, and prefers to do as much hands on maintenance work as he can, often working alongside the creator and his robotic assistant when he can’t complete the work on his own. The creator may well know every nut and bolt and wiring loom, every function and capability to the letter of the specifications, but my pilot knows I am more than a marvellous piece of engineering.
He knows me in the air – how I will respond to any weather conditions, any sudden changes, and every little twitch of my controls. My pilot knows my limits in practice, not just on paper and by the numbers. He will push me when it’s needed and knows when I have given all I can. We have nursed each other home battle-scarred and wounded on many an occasion. He will apologise whenever my abilities are stretched beyond capacity, whenever there is damage, and every time he needs to pull me apart for repairs. I don’t need the apologies. He takes care of me, and I will do my best to take care of him.
My pilot feels affection for me. He shows it in so many little ways, like the absent minded way he’ll trail his hand along the surface of my hull as he passes, or contentedly hum along with the rumble of my engines. It’s evident in the way he speaks to me. Barely audible whispers of greeting, or thanks for a job well done. Impassioned pleas to give just a little more in desperate times, often followed by relieved words of thanks accompanied by a loving rub of my dash, or forehead resting against a bulkhead with a relieved sigh once the crisis is over. He speaks to me in words of encouragement and praise. He believes in me and relies on me, and in return I will give him everything he asks of me. For him I will push my limits to do what he needs me to do, to get us all home safe.
He calls me beautiful. I know that I am not, but it is good to hear him say it. Strong and dependable I may be, but not beautiful – except perhaps in his eyes. I am not sleek and shiny like my sister ‘birds One and Three. Nor am I built for speed like them, but I am proud of my capabilities. Still one of the fastest machines in the air despite my grand size and considerable weight, I am versatile and able to carry just about any cargo imaginable. Sometimes I wish I could be faster, but I know that some things are more important. Without me it would be impossible to get specialised heavy equipment to where it is needed, my medical bay is the best equipped and largest in International Rescue’s fleet, and I am capable of carrying a large number of people to safety. If I were to fail in my duties it would make the job of my pilot and his colleagues immeasurably difficult. So, I must not fail.
He sings to me. When he’s working on repairs or maintenance, when he’s tidying the cockpit or restocking the medical supplies, or sometimes, when we’re flying alone. His voice resonates through my systems and reflects off my surfaces and harmonises with my own sounds. I like when he sings. He seems to do it when he’s happy, comfortable – content. None of the others ever sing to me. The Co-pilot – the one who belongs to Four – he sings sometimes, but it’s not the same. He seems to sing as a distraction, to change the prevailing mood in the cockpit, or just for his own entertainment. His singing is loud and raucous, but not necessarily bad.
Others have flown me when my pilot has been unable to. It is never the same. The Commander, One’s pilot, is always trying to rush me, wanting me to be something I am not. He is impatient with me and grumbles that I am not fast enough. He gets frustrated if I do not respond immediately to the slightest adjustment of my controls, and yet he will often take an extra fraction of a second to find the switch or lever he needs because he is used to flying a different ‘bird. I understand his sense of urgency, but flying for him is sometimes hard work, as though he is fighting me instead of working with me.
The Co-pilot, Four’s pilot is better. Four and I are like the closest of sisters in many ways. We are often called to work together as I am able to carry her to locations she cannot reach fast enough alone. As a result her pilot and mine work together often, and he gets to see first hand how my pilot handles my controls. When he is required to take over piloting duties he emulates what he has seen my pilot do, right down to voicing encouraging words when needed. He is a good pilot, but he lacks a little confidence in himself, as though he is afraid of doing something wrong and causing damage to another’s ‘bird. He means well and he is trying to connect with me on some level, but it is not the same as the partnership I have with my pilot.
The little one, Three’s pilot is somewhere in between those two. He has that nervousness about him, the fear of making a mistake flying a ‘bird that’s not his, and he seems to have a desire to prove himself so he’ll try and do things his way instead of feeling and listening to what I need. At the same time he is inclined to want to rush and expect me to respond more like One or Three instead of doing things my way, but he seems more comfortable adjusting his piloting style than the Commander is.
The other – the Voice from the stars – only really flies me remotely. I have no tangible connection with him. Remote piloting is clinical, calculated, precise and impersonal. He does not communicate directly with me through voice or touch, only electronics. He relies on numbers and sensor readings rather than human senses like my pilot does. I know it is necessary at times for this intangible Voice to take control this way, but it is a lonely way to fly.
My pilot’s strong hands are gentle, nimble and sure in their movements across my controls as he completes pre-flight procedures. The module we need for the job has been selected, loaded and secured into place – part of me, but not. The modules, the pods, the machines and equipment I carry are perhaps like accessories or clothing for a human – it is possible to fly without them, but they are still a part of my complete work-ready attire.
The hangar door is opening and we are rolling. My pilot gently caresses a hand across my dash and quietly utters “Here we go, girl.” The launch pad tilts and the countdown begins. I am a Thunderbird, and my engines rumble into a roar. I bring the thunder, and with my pilot, together we ride the lightning.
“Thunderbird Two is go!”

Was digging through my notes and found this discarded scene from Mand’alor bal Kaysh Vod’ika. Obi-Wan’s verd’goten was originally a single chapter featuring a hunt on Mandalore, but I scrapped that in favor of the Xanatos hunt published on AO3. Of course that decision was made after I had already written 3k words, so enjoy the scrapped scene after the break. (The original arc also involved a completely original mission where Obi-Wan crossed paths with Luminara and her master. I may use bits and pieces of that mission in a future arc.)
This chapter originally had another 500 or so words where Obi-Wan is adopted by a strill puppy. I think those words got deleted, since the only evidence is a pro/con list and the single “protect” emotion from the strill parent.
Obi-Wan wasn't sure what he expected Mandalore to look like, but it wasn't this. Large swathes of the southern hemisphere had been bombarded from space, leaving enormous puckered black scars across a golden desert. The desert was relatively new, or so Jango said, a result of the bombardment destroying the natural ecosystem and leaving the area uninhabitable without sophisticated environmental domes.
The northern hemisphere had been miraculously spared - and that alone had probably kept the planet capable of supporting humanoid life - leaving a glimpse of the Mandalore of old. Forests and mountains blanketed the area, making it difficult to carve out enough space for a single clan, let alone a city or proper landing pad.
Jango guided Jaster's Legacy in for a lopsided landing between an evergreen forest and the start of yet another mountain range, a feat Obi-Wan was glad he didn't have to perform. "Wayii," he exclaimed softly upon exiting the ship, eyebrows rising in awe at the way the Legacy was perched atop three boulders like a giant bird of prey.
"It just takes practice," Jango assured, voice modulator hiding most of the amusement Obi-Wan could feel from him. "Now, your verd'goten," he started and Obi-Wan snapped his attention over. "Traditionally, the two of us would disappear into the wilderness while the rest of Clan Fett tried to catch and defeat you. Seeing as that's not an option, we'll have to test your warrior skills another way."
Obi-Wan swallowed his nerves and nodded seriously.
"In these forests are a number of dangerous predators. Your task is to hunt a strill," he stated and Obi-Wan tilted his head in question. "They're an apex predator native to these forests. Highly intelligent, mammalian, with an unmistakable stench and six legs. Tend to pounce from high trees," he warned, grinning when Obi-Wan nervously glanced at the tree line.
Those were some very tall trees.
"I'll be with you to make sure you don't die, but this is your hunt," Jango finished. "Be sure to take whatever you need from the ship."
"I don't suppose there's a strill tracker?" Obi-Wan quipped before studying the forest. He had taken the basic survival courses all Initiates took. He had the Force. If things went to absolute bathashit, he had Jango.
He could do this.
He set off into the forest with a light pack, a single blaster, and a survival knife. He had contemplated grabbing more supplies - enough provisions for a week, more weapons, a full temporary shelter and bedroll - but had ultimately decided against it. This was a test. He wouldn't take the easy way out.
The forest was eerie and peaceful at the same time. Insects chirped and screamed all around him, blocking out the softer padding sounds of small prey animals and his own two feet. Branches snapped and shook from the breeze and various creatures going about their lives. The scent of pine and rotting foliage sat heavy in his lungs.
He trudged on.
The sun filtered through the sturdy veshok trees and warmed patches of undergrowth. Obi-Wan paused in one, absorbing the heat and breathing out his tension. Breathed in peace, and exhaled his uncertainty. Inhaled fresh air and exhaled his nerves.
He stretched out his senses.
Jango stopped fifty yards away, preternaturally still in the way all predators were. He was calm, patient, warm, but ready to spring into action at the slightest signal. His own senses - and likely his sensors - were on high alert, searching for any indication that Obi-Wan needed his help.
Obi-Wan would not need his help. Not for this. He would make Jango proud.
A rapid heartbeat and softly padding feet off to one side, a flicker of life just as wary and alert as Obi-Wan was. He brushed against that dim light, identifying it as a small herbivore. A prey animal, calculating in its own simple way whether it wanted to flee or continue munching the sweet vorpan berries.
Another flicker of life overhead, this one sleeping. A good thing, too, since there was an aura of danger and barely leashed violence tucked behind those brown wings. Obi-Wan would not put it past this particular creature to attack, and possibly kill, humans if it felt the desire. He sent a soft sleep suggestion to it and warily turned his attention elsewhere, though part of him kept it firmly in mind.
Something nudged his arm, and Obi-Wan's eyes snapped open. A cold black nose attached to a long triangular face nudged his arm again, and Obi-Wan huffed a soft laugh. He slowly, carefully reached up to pet the shatual's head and scratch the base of the wide antlers, gaze flickering over the herd that had decided to come meet him.
"Hello there," he greeted quietly, belatedly realizing he had been projecting peace into the Force in his attempts to keep the predator bird overhead asleep. No wonder the herd had come up to him. "You're a brave little fellow, aren't you?"
Jango shifted, and the shatual herd stiffened, heads all swiveling to stare at the Mandalorian. Obi-Wan jerked back to avoid getting clocked by his new friend's bony crown.
The largest shatual made a guttural sound, and Obi-Wan scrambled away as the herd abruptly fled.
A mix of exasperation, disbelief, and humor prompted Obi-Wan to turn, a bemused if chiding look on his face. "Thanks for that," he snarked, staring pointedly at the blaster Jango had drawn.
"This happen a lot?" Jango asked evenly as he stowed the weapon.
"Not generally. I think I was projecting and they got curious," Obi-Wan admitted. "We should move on. I think that's a shriek-hawk overhead, which means a strill wouldn't be welcome here."
There was a brief pause as Jango consulted his HUD. "Good eye," he confirmed.
Obi-Wan smiled as he wandered deeper into the woods, the Force guiding his steps.
They stalked through the forest for hours, Obi-Wan picking out what plants he thought were safe for foraging and Jango verifying their safety. Whether that was cheating, Obi-Wan didn't care to examine too closely. He knew how to test whether a plant was edible. Using Jango's knowledge simply kept the man from worrying at Obi-Wan's naturally small appetite.
There were no repeats of the shatual herd incident, though Obi-Wan may have used a small Force suggestion to lure a rabbit for latemeal. He only felt mildly guilty about using the Force in such a way as Jango helped him field dress and roast the animal.
Camp was a simple affair; a pile of dry leaves, a small fire, and a blanket to keep the morning dew off. Jango didn't even bother with the blanket, relying instead on his beskar'gam to keep him warm and dry. Part of Obi-Wan was jealous, the rest of him knew he would get his own suit soon.
The next day came bright and early, complete with Obi-Wan gasping from a half-forgotten nightmare and Jango groaning about a night on the hard ground. Obi-Wan rolled his eyes and would have thrown a pillow if he had one; the ground was not that much harder than the shared blanket pile they were experimenting with on the Legacy.
They wandered onwards, Obi-Wan following the vague currents of the Force as best he could. It was difficult to tell where exactly he was meant to go. The Living Force had never been his strong suit, and the Force felt especially elusive in this old, scarred forest. This was a place teeming with life tempered by a looming expectation of danger; these were survivors, determined to eke out a living among the jagged rocks and scraggly trees and the heavy weight of death.
He shivered as he crested another boulder.
The vague feeling of alarm and the sound of rustling trees alerted him to animals fleeing something. He turned, stretching his senses out.
A breeze ruffled his hair, and Obi-Wan nearly gagged at the stench it carried. Like rotting meat and Vos's training tunics and unwashed bodies all mixed together. He hastily switched to breathing through his mouth, and nearly gagged again as he realized he could taste the stink.
He glanced back at Jango, a disgusted look on his face. 'Is that what I think it is?'
Amusement spiked, and Jango inclined his head. 'Yes.'
Obi-Wan scowled and crept towards the strill, drawing both his vibroblade and blaster. He reached out with the Force, recognizing a spark of animal intelligence just ahead, mind bright with happiness and victory at a successful kill.
The strill was just as ugly as it smelled. Short gray fur bristled across its flappy skin as it tore into the downed shatual. Its front four legs held the shatual in place as it systemically tore the beast into shreds, blood and viscera spreading from the corpse in a gory puddle.
Obi-Wan swallowed roughly and raised his blaster.
Something - the wind, maybe - alerted the predator of his presence as its head snapped up, snarling. The Force barely had time to flare in warning before the strill pounced, fangs and claws extended.
Obi-Wan shouted in surprise and thrust one hand out, catching the strill with the Force, pushing it back, and buying him precious seconds to scramble to his feet.
The strill snarled as it landed, prowling around him in a wide arc. Obi-Wan raised his blaster and aimed for the creature's center of mass, Force at the ready for any unexpected surprises. The Force trilled right as the strill leapt, and Obi-Wan twisted to one side, blaster landing a fiery score across the loose skin of the strill's underbelly.
He cursed under his breath. That would only make the animal angrier.
The strill snarled as it landed and immediately bounded up a nearby tree. Obi-Wan shifted closer to the shatual body, tracking the strill as it jumped from tree to tree around him.
He dove to one side as the strill fell almost on top of him, blaster snapping out three quick bolts. The strill whimpered as it landed, and Obi-Wan frowned as he realized he had only caught one of the six legs instead of the animal's vulnerable chest.
It would hurt, but it wouldn't incapacitate.
Apparently it hurt enough, as the strill picked up its injured leg and fled into the forest. Obi-Wan grit his teeth and followed, eyes scanning everywhere for disturbed foliage and blood.
Despite the injury, the strill was fast, quickly disappearing among the veshok trees. Obi-Wan reached out with the Force, searching for that combination of intelligence and anger/hurt/fear/hunger that was the strill among similar animal minds.
He scowled as he felt the strill escape to the edge of his awareness. If he were better with the Force - if he were a real Jedi - he would be able to feel it out from across the planet. He picked up the pace, using the Force to vault himself over a downed tree and enhance his speed.
But it was no good. The strill was clever and knew the forest better than Obi-Wan did. He drew to a stop, panting, as he recognized that his target had escaped.
As he caught his breath, he realized Jango was nowhere to be seen. He frowned, reaching out with the Force for the familiar presence, but only finding the relatively dull glimmers of animals instead. He reached for his commlink and paused.
He wasn't asking for help. He wouldn't. Not for this.
He could do this. Jango thought he could do this, so he could do this. He would not let Jango down.
He flipped a switch on the device allowing it to broadcast his location, and tucked it back in his belt pouch. Whether Jango needed the tracking signal or not, it settled something deep inside knowing Jango would absolutely be able to find him.
And if the strill did kill him, at least Jango would be able to find his corpse.
With that cheery thought, Obi-Wan carefully examined his surroundings. There, off to the side and high in the trees, were what looked like claw marks, and lower on the trunk were a few spatters of blood.
He followed those signs for some distance, trusting the Force to keep him mostly pointed in the right direction and his own eyes the rest of the way, and emerged in a small rocky clearing. He scoured the lichen covered rock for the telltale blood spots he had been following, and headed back into the forest.
As he came upon a small rocky clearing, he was forced to admit the strill was far more clever than he had given credit. He drew his knife, marked the false trail, and tried a different path.
The third time he entered the small rocky clearing, Jango was waiting for him.
"Not a word," Obi-Wan demanded, finally locating what he hoped was the real trail.
Jango didn't move, but he also didn't say a word, so Obi-Wan counted that as a win. He determinedly ignored whatever emotions Jango was bleeding into the Force.
The third path led him into the foothills of a mountain and down into a shallow stream. He scowled at the cheery water feature, just knowing the strill had used that to well and truly lose him.
"Do you have a plan?" Jango asked as he drew close.
Obi-Wan sighed, releasing his frustration to the Force, and took a seat on a conveniently flat rock. "We weren't taught more than basic tracking skills," Obi-Wan admitted, "but I did spend a lot of time hiding from and chasing down my friends in the creche. Whenever someone got really good at hiding, we could generally locate them if we meditated and really focused, so I'm going to give that a shot."
"Does that work for anyone?"
Obi-Wan shrugged. "The better you know who you're searching for, the easier it gets. I got a decent feel for the strill while we were fighting, so with some luck I should be able to find it. At least, I should, as long as it hasn't gone too far away," which they both knew was unlikely given the strill's injury.
Jango didn't have anything to say to that, so Obi-Wan closed his eyes and drew the Force around him. Energy swelled, and Obi-Wan concentrated, dragging his attention away from Jango's bright light to pick through the dimmer threads surrounding them.
His attention slid to a knot of threads vaguely resembling his target and a herd of shatuale. The strill-thread watched closely, its focus on the runt-thread at the back of the herd with the gimp leg, as the herd gathered at a sizeable bush. The runt dropped its head to gather some berries, and the strill pounced, air catching the gliding skin between its legs and depositing the predator's claws on the shatual's neck.
The shatuale-threads panicked, bolted, and fled, leaving the strill-thread and the dying shatual-thread behind but not forgotten. As Obi-Wan watched, the shatual-thread frayed and split, the pieces carried away on some indiscernible breeze to tangle themselves with the shatuale herd and the strill ripping strips out of an empty shell.
And those scattered threads suddenly contracted, bright and solid and demanding, dragging the herd and the strill-thread, now frayed in places, together. He watched as the mess of threads collided and tangled, forming some knotted mess he could hardly pick apart before it suddenly dispersed, leaving only a few frayed remains behind.
He frowned at the unhelpful vision. Something - the Force? - frowned right back.
He prodded at the frayed remains and felt a flash of very animal alarm/protect/hunt in return.
He kept that thread firmly in mind as he carefully eased himself from the Force.
"Find something?" Jango asked evenly, though after his latest deep meditation the man might as well have been screaming his worry, curiosity, and fascination to the galaxy for all he was masking the emotions.
"I think so," Obi-Wan answered, rising to his feet and nearly tumbling to the ground as his vision temporarily blacked out. "Whoa. How long was I out?"
"Four hours," Jango answered, stowing the blaster he had been cleaning. He fished a nutribar from one of his numerous pouches and threw it at Obi-Wan. "Eat and drink. The water is safe."
Obi-Wan scowled but obediently bit down on the dry bar before chasing it with water and venturing back into the forest. The strill-thread felt different outside that plane of deep meditation, but he had a direction to follow and he wasn't about to let it slip away again.
He almost wished he had waited to finish the nutribar before chasing the strill. His mouth felt sandy, and he hadn't thought to fill a canteen before leaving the stream behind.
The strill-thread remained steady in his mind, and he couldn't help the slight increase in pace as he caught the first pungent whiff of the beast. He cloaked himself in the Force as if he were hiding from Quin and approached slowly, senses straining for any sign the strill knew he was approaching.
He heard growling and an answering whuff just ahead. He ducked down, drawing his blaster and checking the Force. Jango was still several meters away, and it felt like the strill was distracted by a sizeable herd of angry shatuale.
Angry herbivores. That was not something he would have expected.
The lead shatual ducked its head, antlers pointed straight at the strill, and whuffed another warning. The strill growled and darted forwards, forward paws raised to slash.
Obi-Wan could only watch as the shatual charged, caught the strill in the points of its antlers, and tossed it aside like trash. The other shatuale dropped their heads and followed suit, hooves trampling the strill into the dirt. The lead shatual stopped long enough to study its target, whuffed and pawed at the ground, and tossed its head in victory as the strill whined pathetically.
He sat stunned for a moment, not sure what he was supposed to do as the shatuale proudly left the area. He was supposed to hunt the strill, but a herd of prey animals came and did the deed for him. Did it count if he tracked it, fought it, and ultimately didn't kill it?
But no, the poor animal wasn't dead yet.
He could feel the creature's pain, see how it struggled to breathe around a crushed ribcage. Its limbs were shattered in multiple locations, the grey fur already matted with blood where its thick skin had burst. The shatuale hadn't killed the strill, but there was no way the strill would survive much longer.
He felt a swell of pity for the thing as he approached. There was no way he could help it; even if he had enough bacta on him (which he definitely didn't), the creature would sooner kill him than let him approach.
He met the animal's gold eyes, unfocused and cloudy though they were, and tried to press peace and comfort on its mind. Something stirred and weakly nudged against his mind, leaving an impression of pain/sad/hungry.
The strill released a wet whine and blood burbled past its lips. Obi-Wan closed his eyes in mourning, pressed a suggestion to sleep on the rapidly weakening creature, and shot it clean between the eyes.
It really was a mercy this time.
He rose to his feet as he heard Jango approach. "I killed it, but a herd of shatuale did most of the work first," he blurted out, stowing his blaster.
Jango came to stop next to him, staring down at the corpse before turning his helmeted face towards him. "That's okay," Jango said. "I told you before, the verd'goten is traditionally a hunt between clan members. This was a test to see how advanced your survival and fighting skills were, and based on what I've seen, you're more than skilled enough." He smiled behind the helmet, one hand resting proudly on Obi-Wan's shoulder. "Congratulations, verd."
Verd. Soldier. Warrior.
Jango's smile became tender as he squeezed Obi-Wan's shoulder. "I'm proud of you, vod."
Obi-Wan beamed.

CHAPTER 3...
Jules had to move faster.
It was only a matter of time before he would be detected. The lack of security cameras was a plus however; he had done harder jobs than this before. Even so, infiltrating a Sycorax ship was not his idea of fun, and he wanted to get this job done as soon as possible. Jules peered around the corner and spied two walking towards him. They were armed only with swords and seemingly engrossed in conversation. Jules fitted a silencer module to his Alpha Meson blaster and strode around the corner. The Sycorax’s masks gave no emotion but the tilt of the head was one of surprise, right before two silent red laser bolts burned holes between their eyes. Jules moved swiftly past the smoking corpses and toward the far door, which according to his holomap was the entrance to the prison cells. The door slid open with a press of the big red button and revealed the mass of slaved being transported. The guards turned towards the opened door but were gunned down by more precise laser bolts before they could draw their swords. Looking out over the sea of prisoners he could see numerous different species: Humans, Raxacoricofallapatorians, the bug-like Uvodni and even an Ice Warrior.
              “Computer, you listening?” Jules asked.
“Always Captain. What do you require?”
He crouched down, searching the Sycorax bodies for keys. “There are over two hundred prisoners here and we can’t transport that many.”
“I will send out an alert to the Church. Perhaps they can send a cruiser to assist.” Her flat voice was hardly reassuring.
“Knock yourself out, I’ll do what I can here.”
“Knock myself out…do you mean I should shut down Capt-”
“No, Computer! It’s a figure of speech.” Jules sighed, and began unlocking the cells.
“Okay Captain…I shall send that alert now.” The far door opened and two Sycorax marched in. They drew their swords, but too late, as they fell under a mass of shouting bodies. The ex-prisoners were spilling out into all the corridors and hallways of the ship. Jules noticed an Ice Warrior still sat at the back of the cell and ran over to her.
“Come on, we need to get moving before they get the riot under control,” he said to the Ice Warrior. “What’s your name?”
“Rakara…” she said after a few moments pause. “It’ssss too hot in here. And my cooling ssssystem wassss damaged when they captured me.”
“Hold on one sec.” Jules rummaged around in his coat pockets. After a minute he pulled out a sonic probe, “This should fix the circuitry.” The probe was about fifteen centimetres long with a forked end and the tips of the forks glowed green when activated. Jules had traded it for an old love letter the last time he was at the Rings of Akhaten’s market, although he had to admit it wasn’t his love letter, but one he’d liberated for just that sort of eventuality. The only thing Jules really cared about was his ship and his sword. Two things he could not part with.
“Is that better?” Jules asked, pocketing the probe.
“Muchssss, thank you.” She stood up, a little unsteady, “What isss your name?”
“I’m Jules, now please take my hand.”
“Whhhy, I can walk fine.”
Jules laughed, “It’s not about walking. We need to teleport off this ship onto mine and I’ve only got one relay. So please…” he held out his hand, “trust me.” Rakara stared at him through the deep red lenses on her mask, before reaching out and taking his hand.
The familiar metallic tang filled his mouth and they were back on the Selene. Rakara was looking around, her head tilted to the right. She’d probably have a confused expression if he could see her face.
“How…how are we following the Ssssycorax sssship? It’s at warp.” she enquired eventually.
“This ship has a powerful tractor beam, but in this instance, I’m using it as a tow rope, keeping us anchored to the ship. It jumped to warp and we followed.”  She nodded and sat down, looking out the window into the blue streaks of the warp field.
“Why me?” she queried, “why ressscue me?”
“Because I was asked to. Your mother reported you missing and the Empress usually gets her way. But I won’t take you back if you don’t want me to.” He sighed and sat in the pilot seat, “While I was tracking you down, I realised you wanted to get away. You joined this life of excitement and adventure to escape from the boredom of court life and being the daughter of the Empress. Not that the life of a royal Ice Warrior could be entirely boring. I imagine you’ve seen battle before.”
Rakara’s head dipped a little. “Not exactly. My mother hassss made usss a pacifissstic race. We no longer ssseek bloodshed, we no longer write poemssss of war.” She made a noise which Jules took to be a sigh. “All I wass able to do assss a Shsurr was sssing and entertain.” She took off her mask, revealing her beetle-like crimson eyes and dreadlocks draped over her shoulders.
“Then I won’t take you back.” Jules said after a moment pause. “You don’t want that life and I can give you a way out that doesn’t involve Sycorax slavers.”
“But if you do not return me to my mother, will sssshe not be angry?”
“I imagine so…would she send her own soldiers after us?”
A nod. “Mossst likely. Do you fancy ssspending the ressst of your life looking over your ssshoulder?”
Jules smirked. “Do you?”
It was then that he witnessed a smile from her – likely her first true one in a long time. “Sssounds like fun, I will join you. Ssso where ssshall we go firsssst?”
“Woman Wept is nice this time of year...” Jules offered
Rakara walked over to the controls, “We sssshould probably disssconect the tractor beam.”
Smart. “That switch there.” Jules pointed to a switch above the windows, Rakara smiled again and flicked it.
The Selene dropped out of warp with nothing to latch onto anymore, did a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree flip and leaped straight into a slipstream tunnel…
 *****
 Present day…
The Selene dodged and dived through the laser fire, chased by two Cyberfighters. The Chula Warship skimmed the surface of a Sontaran command ship, flying up through the claw-like arrangement at the top of the ship. The Selene pulled a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree flip and opened fire with its triple cannons, shredding the Cyberfighters.
“Computer, how isss Julessss’ condition?” Rakara questioned, swinging the Selene round the back of a Sontaran ship, out of the line of fire.
“His condition seems stable; analysis shows he suffered from a severe panic attack.”
“A panic attack? What causssed it?” Rakara hurried over to her bunk in the cockpit where Jules was lying, muttering and shaking. “Could it be the Cybermen? Ssssome sssort of reawakened memory?”
The cool, formless voice replied, “It is possible. He may still have a connection to the hive mind. If so, being in this close proximity could have reactivated it. Recommendation: vacate the area immediately.” The Computer shut off. Rakara got back into the pilot seat and flicked the switches to begin the Slipstream engine spooling up sequence.
 *****
 Meanwhile in Jules subconscious…
This was a memory, it had to be, Jules thought to himself. He wasn’t back here, he couldn’t be. The shiny silver interior of the spaceship was spotted with blood as the Cybermen rushed to upgrade people captured mid-battle. Jules was trapped in a line of people waiting to be converted. The ship was one big factory for conversion; it would loiter at the edge of a battle and latch onto the damaged ships with a tractor beam before teleporting everyone onto the Cybership to await conversion.
If this is a memory, can’t I just break out?
“Jules!” he froze, the monotone, lifeless voice of the cyberman stopped him mid thought. “You must re-join the Legions! We do not give up what was ours. Join us. Join us. Join us…”
 *****
 Back in reality…
Jules awoke on the floor of the Selene in the midde of Rakara throwing the ship into all manner of evasive manoeuvres.
“What is going on, Shsurr?” Jules shouted to be heard over the sound of the engines at full throttle.
“Cyberfighterssss!” She hissed back. “I think they decided we were a better target than the Sontaranssss.”
              Great. “Computer!” Jules yelled.
“Yes Captain?”
“Remind me to install rear-facing weapons.” Jules walked as best he could over to the cockpit. Out of the window was pure destruction - the wrecked hulks of star ships littered the battlefield and the few remaining ships were trading shots through the thick wreckage. “Rakara, fly past the front of the nearest Sontaran ship. Try and get its flank guns to take out our pest problem.” Rakara nodded and weaved the Selene through the debris field, towards the remaining Sontaran ship. Jules jumped down to the cargo hold, ran over to the cloaking device and began his attempt to fix the system.
The Selene sped through the floating remnants of ship, scattered armour plating and dead crewmembers, all the while dodging the Cyberfighters’ laser bolts. Rakara threw the ship into a dive to port down through the remains of a Cyber Carrier’s hangar bay. The Cyberfighters tried following but one lost control, slamming into a wall and exploding, taking a second with it. The final fighter stuck to the Selene like tar until it followed the Chula warship past the Sontaran ship and a stray laser bolt cut it in two. With a hum, the cloaking device came to life and the Selene faded from view.
“Rakara, take us above the battlefield.” Jules commanded, ascending back up to the Cockpit.
“Of coursssse. Are we cloaked?”
“From all sensors and visual receptors, yes. Now let’s see who wins thi-”
“Captain!” The computer’s electronic voice cut over him. “There is a new ship leaving FTL.”
Between the remains of the Sontaran and Cyber fleets a ship emerged from a blinding streak of light. The ship opened fire in both directions and the two fleets exploded.
“That can’t be.” Jules gasped, turning white.
“What issss it?” asked Rakara, confused.
              “It’s the SS Pentallian…”

How does it stack up to other goods? Getting rid of the products goes ways to alleviate you in addition to safeguard your loss. I cannot pick which is bothersome - having to think of ways to get rid of unwanted hair or to go for painful waxing sessions each month. Rather than reinstalling everything and being required to remove each component, you can get rid of the entire device and put in it back. The image detector of this IPL camera may detect a whole range of the wavelength from UV. CMOS Sensor Inc generates a series of product lines to our clients. All the detector chips are mounted onto a PCB substrate and aren't physically touching each other. The IPL camera is streamlined, powerful, and all of the internals (lens, detectors, circuitry,... etc) are put into a single device. All the components which comprised detectors, FPGAs, circuitry panel are packaged and fastened to one module. The mind will move along with the contours of your body which means that you're constantly maintaining the angle that is optimal. Discomfort will be minimized if you use your Braun Silk-Epil with warm water, in tub, or shower.
I'm dead, I find an ant's snack painful!
There are just two illumination approaches possible with the use of IPL camera. The IPL camera utilized two sensor placement methods for various applications. The first technique is. Each sensor chip is put in a lineup and each chip is currently butting up against another sensor chip beside it. The first scanning system is a convey line set up in which the IPL camera is static whereas the panel (highlighted in red for Figure 9) to be inspected is to a conveyor belt line and moves through the IPL camera. The LED light strikes the information and the panel is mirrored into the sensors inside the IPL camera and from the panel. What is IPL? I'm dead, I find an ant's snack painful! Well designed, built from materials that are resistant and guaranteed to operate, if it's secure, it's a couple.
The Braun Face 851 is by far the very greatest epilator and you get. Considering epilators for women, It may be best epilator 2010, as some state. A cleaning brush's addition might help capture the eye of buyers. This removes the possibility of moving parts (lens, the field of view, the variance of distance, etc) which could adversely affect the operation of the camera. Depending upon the specifications needed, the number of components and the duration of this IPL line scanner inside will change. IPL is the best means to eliminate unwanted hair retardation permanently and stands for Intense Pulse Light. The light source can ensure from UV, Blue, Green, Red, to Near-infrared (NIR) LED. The IPL camera can use a whole lot of LED light source to light the object.
The following are some examples, and not restricted to, of thing AOI inspection that is flat. I have done as an opener, but at a team sport, you have to be adaptable enough to perform at whichever position you're made to perform with. Team aim is important. To put it on you need to spin the barrel, I truly believe this should be a button or a switch of a description. We think you'll like bulb placement that makes it easy to prevent exposing your own eyes, also the handle. I think if I have a really good time, I will be in India A squad. This brush will wash the skin up to six times better than using a washcloth. At times it is not easy to see my skin although it:P when I leave the hair to grow on. With any hair removal procedure, you're likely to have to commit for multiple treatments over the years to see the outcomes you want, and that is also the case.
