what type of camera do you use!! ur photos are so beautiful every single time
aw danke schön, I have a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and alternate between a fixed 50mm and 24-205mm lens. I love this thang and recommend it very much. They stopped making this particular model in 2012 but it would still be easy to find one secondhand.

[Headcanon]
The space program took a whole month off of development after Tektite's accident, so that Slate could have the time to perfect their leg. They'd already been working on articulated flaps for in-atmosphere steering for Feldspar's ship - conserves fuel to not use jets for that - and hey, an artificial ankle is just another type of flap to articulate, right?
Gossan wasn't so sure - especially with Slate's full-tilt approach to experimental engineering, at odds with Tektite's trepidation - but all of the founders agreed that the program could wait until their neighbour was back on their feet. And to Slate's credit, Gossan had never seen them show as much sheer methodical focus, before or since. This was somebody's limb here, after all: their ability to move of their own accord, their ability to get out and about in the community and do the things they love, their ability to still feel like their body is their own. Slate was hardly about to phone it in, or risk any wild experiments when it came to Tektite's comfort and requirements.
It took several iterations, and several difficult test walks around the town square gripping Slate's arm, but together the pair of them worked out a final model that's been serving Tektite well to this day.
(...Of course, the dedication and focus that so pleasantly surprised Gossan only made Slate's awkward avoidance of them after their own accident sting even more. Was it really that hard on their poor guilty conscience, to think about doing something similar for a friend, instead of darting their gaze away just short of Gossan's face?)
#outer wilds#original posts#outer wilds tektite#outer wilds slate#outer wilds gossan#*this headcanon is not a vessel for gosslate angst#it's an idea on its own that i really enjoy thinking about#the coming together of these ambitious young Hearthians with resources & technology & deciding to use those things to leave no one behind#instead of pushing harder for what was probably a pretty exciting midway stage of the space program#I imagine they'd had Feldspar and Esker up in the air for a while and Chert was just starting training#and looking promising#but this was worth it to delay. Slate's skills were needed elsewhere for a while.#as for Slate and Gossan...#yeah; there wasn't really as much to be done for Goss as far as a prosthetic went; but I don't think that's what they wanted#I think they just wanted Slate to look them in their remaining eyes and acknowledge what happened. without being defensive or avoidant#or overly pitying#just acknowledge it and the fact that it was partially their doing; and offer up something to ease the road ahead#like a sensor for the ships to help with depth perception. or a brace to help Gossan stop craning their neck until it's sore. or a hug.#Gossan's read on it is about what I intended; by the way#Slate isn't icked out by their injured face or anything like that#they're just guilty. Gossan can't heal until the thing's acknowledged#and Slate can't stop being defensive until they stop feeling like Gossan's forcing them to look at a failure they can't undo#for no reason other than to make them feel bad for it still#it's messy. and unfortunate. and makes Gossan feel betrayed and Slate feel hounded for something they can't go back and fix#and I really; really like it. on a story basis. I want to keep writing about it in the future and handle it with deserved nuance#but for now this is 3/4 a Tektite and Slate post and the focus is that when it really really matters#that lunatic of an engineer sure can lock in#and the thing that makes that happen doesn't have to be spacefaring and glory#it can just be a member of their little village who's in need

So your tags with Bill seeing Ford as Stan’s champion makes me think Bill used to be wary of Stan, but Stan constantly ends up playing a damsel in distress role (cause I can’t imagine Stan NOT being part of the action, but couldn’t figure out what else he would do if he wasn’t the one fighting Bill) so Bill got cocky, which became his downfall. Also I think there is something to be said about how, technically, all of Ford’s plans were actually Stan’s which Bill turns a blind eye to lol
(I love doodle ford so much, sorry I am sending so many asks lol)
I'm thinking in the og tales of Lil'Stans Bill was a full on joke villain that was determined to take over the world and reign Supreme in crunchy deliciousness as the king of junkfood. He'd trick Ford with snacks into helping/distracting him so he could steal his inventions, then the Stan bros would go off on an adventure to stop him. Ford would always get into a showdown with Bill and send him flying, while Stanley foiled the invention or ate through his minions.
The idea here is that Stan made several bad guys, some were Ford focused, some Stanley focused, and some were both. So Bill was a Ford focused villain and didn't care to pay attention to any non Bill related adventures. (Stan's bad guys I'm thinking are Darlene, the Tax Man, caricatures of his teachers, probabilitor, while Ford had Bill, Dr. McGucket the memory man (who always reintroduced himself every fight), the gnome queen, and various hay wire inventions (like the kiss bot), they both fought off Stan's bully caricatures(like cramp man), various sea monsters, and The Fuzz, plus a various amount of creatures and other not as notable villains).
When Stan erased himself and started working on more adult themed comics, he reused Bills name and design, going from snacks to the all seeing eye and keeping his jokey personality to make him more threatening. Bill went from junkfood to demonic takeover, but since he's the same character reworked he still has those memories and history. Since he's a Ford villain, he sees Ford as the threat, even though Stan's God and actually wrote everything. It makes him underestimate Stan, which leads to his downfall here.
(And no worries! I love yapping away!)

hi!! i hope i'm not bothering you but i'd like some help with naruto lore stuff, why is it that everyone assumes that sage mode grants the user sensory abilities? for example, hashirama and jiraiya were not sensors and sage mode didn't change that, and i'm pretty sure that was only correct for naruto and minato (and maybe madara?) since they're all classified as sensors. am i missing something? or are my assumptions wrong?
well for starters, if it's about naruto, you are never bothering me. i love blabbering about naruto, i'm basically 60% naruto infodumps in the shape of person.
anyway, sage mode actually does give you some sensor type abilities, i believe, so it's likely hashirama at least had some sensory capabilities that just never got brought up (probably bc he usually pops up with tobirama, one of the best sensors in the series, so there's not need to rely on his own sensing if he does have it, i guess?). for jiraiya, i would guess his lack of sensor abilities is due to his sage mode being incomplete. it's also possible that he too has some sensor capabilities and just doesn't use them bc that barrier thing he can do is easier and doesn't require sage mode.
that said, a "sensor type" is basically just a shinobi who takes the pre-existing detection ability that most shinobi have up to eleven - a broader definition of what a sensor type is would include any hyuuga with the byakugan; the first person in the entire series to be referred to as a "sensor type" is i believe hinata in chapter 355. there are also techniques that shinobi who don't have like natural sensing abilities, which also qualifies them as sensor types. pretty much the only difference outside of increased quality between regular shinobi "holy hell there's a lotta chakra over there" and what sensor types can do is the presence of an off-switch, as sensor types typically have some kind of ability (sage mode, rain tiger at will, etc) or biological function (byakugan) they have to choose to activate, or at the very least they need to be kneading chakra.
to be honest, the whole thing is a teeny bit wonky - with exceptions of characters like lee, basically everybody is a sensor type to some extent; it's just that that label is only really applied to the people who have a significant edge in that department. frankly i think kishimoto was just kinda lumping a bunch of separate abilities together and hoping people didn't ask to many questions. it's effectively the naruto world's version of the force lmao

Have you ever wondered what it's like being chronically ill in the US?
I have type 1 diabetes and use an insulin pump. Here's briefly how that works: my pump, which I typically keep in my pocket, has a spot for a cartridge that I fill with insulin, which is attached to tubing, which is attached to an infusion site, which is basically a piece of plastic and adhesive that goes on top of my skin, and a cannula that goes underneath it. These get changed every 2-3 days. (This is not universal; different pumps work differently.) I use a pump because the constant infusion of insulin results in the best control over my blood sugar levels for me (type 1 means my body makes zero insulin).
I'm struggling right now because I only have 2 sets of pump cartridges & infusion sets left (that's 6 days max), and my insurance is refusing to cover them at all. Insurance coverage is often split between medical (like doctor's visits) and pharmacy, which are administered by different companies even under the same plan. So now, medical says pharmacy should cover the cartridges and infusion sets because they're "diabetes supplies" (even though no pharmacy near me carries these supplies and as far as I can tell they are only available from medical supply companies, not pharmacies), and pharmacy says they are not considered to fall under "diabetes supplies" and medical should cover it under Durable Medical Equipment (correct afaik).
Twenty each of these (which lasts 40-60 days) costs about $300. I'm very very lucky that I can spare that right now, so I'm paying out of pocket while I fight with insurance, but on top of that, the medical supply company I get it from says that they haven't received any of the documents they requested from my doctor's office, while the doctor's office says they sent them a week ago. So I asked them to re-send it on Friday, but it has to go from receptionist to nurses and it's a whole process, plus my doctor's office closes at 4:30 on weekdays and isn't open on weekends. So now I'm grocery shopping for low carb meals and snacks so I can stretch the supplies out as long as possible (fewer carbs = less insulin).
My insurance is through my employer (I pay $75/week for it!), and they have hired a company to advocate for insured employees in cases like that. Not because of my case, just because they know that health insurance here sucks so much shit and is so confusing that they knew they would get complaints if they didn't. So I am working with an advocate there, and I have basically had to teach him all about how insulin pumps work so that he understands what it is I actually need. Most non-diabetics have no idea, even in the healthcare industry. (I have read horror stories from fellow type 1s whose surgeons for unrelated issues had no idea how to manage their diabetes while they were under anesthesia and they ended up with dangerously high blood sugar because the surgical staff refused to give them insulin for several hours because they weren't eating, which, that is not how type 1 works!!) But he is now recruiting colleagues to help pore over the details of the insurance plan documentation to figure out how to appeal it.
And to top it all off, whenever I call the insurance or the supply company, it is impossible to speak with anyone who has any decision making power, and they all just repeat the "It's not covered" line no matter how much I try to explain the nuances of the coverage. And then I have to make an effort not to scream at people who are just trying to survive by working a shitty job at an evil company (because that's basically a majority of available jobs). But I can't be TOO calm, or they won't understand how serious it is. So I have to sound upset but not angry, while I am shaking with rage that the system is like this.
Because this is not remotely the first time I have been desperately low on supplies fighting to get prescriptions covered by insurance, sent by the doctor to the pharmacy/supplier, and filled by said pharmacy/supplier, plus shipped by the supplier in a timely manner. I have had to switch the type of insulin I use multiple times because different insurance companies cover different ones. And again, I'm very lucky because all the rapid-acting insulins work the same for me so switching is more of an inconvenience than a real issue -- for some people they don't, and some people are actually severely allergic to certain types of insulin and cannot use them even if their insurance company tries to make them (so the insurance is basically giving them a choice whether to die by diabetic ketacidosis or anaphylaxis)!!
And then people wonder why I take it so personally when they say they're against universal health care. What I hear when someone says that is, "I think this process is fine and good, actually. I think you deserve to stress out and fear for your life and health regularly because of an illness, and I don't want my taxes to go to preventing that." Because that issue is not hypothetical to me. It is literally about me and my life.
If you're still reading, thank you for reading my rant. I'm not asking for help, I'm both very privileged and very knowledgeable and I'll be okay, but I am so so angry and just needed somewhere to fully express my anger. And I wanted to do it publicly because I think it's important for people to know that this is happening all the fucking time in this fuckass country!
And by the way, this has been happening for years and years. I've been an adult for 20 years now (and I've been diabetic for 30 years), and it's basically been happening that whole time. This is not just an issue with the current administration or party; this is a problem with the whole damn system. It is a system that is hoping that I fall through the cracks so pharmaceutical companies (including supply companies) profit, or that I give up and die, so the insurance companies can save some money.

@horrorsprovider just so you know this gave me so much inspiration i had to stop myself from doing any more
a few more hcs related to this under the cut
pre grove incident:
-didn't "need" it that much but still had it in case -hyacine got it for him after the first soul splitting experiment when he needed to readjust to his body -used it mainly after any alchemy related/soul splitting experiments -many areas he frequents have become very accessible bc of this
post grove incident: -your body being reanimated does numbers to your motor functions -he tries to stay put as much as possible but sometimes you just gotta go outside -left his old cane in the grove (even if he tried to find it it's probably destroyed) so for a while he did rely on cerces to help him move around and at the very least make it appear like he was not in too much pain but he didn't like how not in control of that body he felt so he eventually went out to get himself a new cane -he actually meets hyacine again but since she probably knows of the extent of the damage shes like "professor a cane would be way unhelpful right now !! you shouldn't really be up and about at all, actually... but if you insist on getting out then please use a wheelchair or at the very least forearm crutches !!!" -he relents, convincing hyacine to get him a pair of forearm crutches and a cane -hyacine was right. it's better with the forearm crutches for the first week or two and then he switches over to the cane -there are not a lot of accessibility accomodations in okhema (</3) but he makes it work
other -he likes the cane more than the forearm crutches because he likes having at least one hand free -cerces really helped in the readjustment process a lot because something that would take at least a few years to recover properly (he was *dead* surrounded by *black tide*) took about two months ^two months is the average timeframe between versions and im using that as the basis for the time it took for naxy to relearn how to walk properly. hes definoprobably still in a lot of pain by 3.2 but hey he can walk and maybe fight again !

Warden stress?👀
-🍂
Tumblr media
being a warden hybrid isn't easy, most players are afraid of wardens on top of already being naturally blind and sensitive to sunlight.
despite this stress is one of the cheeriest hermits you'll ever meet, embracing her hybrid nature and not letting it hold her back.

this is so random but i was doing a genasi/titan wiki research session (for obvious reasons) and i saw that they had two sections on the genasi page that stood out to me. one was for the kryn dynasty, and one was for the cerberus assembly. i didn’t watch cr2 nor calamity, and i also don’t own egtw, which seems to be where most of this comes from, so if anyone knows more details about this pplleeeeaaase let me know i need to go insane about it, but. anyways. both are wild to me for different reasons,
basically the kryn have almost no genasi if any and so kryn scouts are under orders to bring any genasi they find home so that the dynasty can gain information about them. the cerberus assembly are noted to be obsessed with genasi and pressure any genasi they find in the empire to join the ranks of the assembly under pain of exile or even death (all of this is according to the wiki)
so. first off. can you imagine being the fucking kryn scout that carts in Ashton Fucking Greymoore. not only a genasi but. known beacon brain. constantly noted by pretty much everyone with magic to be weird as fuck and full of endless potential. maybe infused with a fragment of your god’s essence. That Fucking Guy
second off. can you imagine being the fucking cerberus assembly soldier or whatever that carts in Ashton Fucking Greymoore, especially now, when the fucking assembly is staring at ludinus’ moon laser and going what the shit is that. you bring in this fucking punk who’s very dead set on murdering that blond elf. and somehow that bitch didn’t notice what he had on his tail. so i guess it’s your turn to figure it the fuck out! good luck bitch!
