Grand Prix de France 2023 speedrun
Smart/Dieck: love the phone choreo at the beginning/end of this program, that’s cute
Lim/Quan: they looked better this time out, good for them. Love Hannah’s costume
Lauriault/LeGac: interesting concept. Love the lift position. Had no idea Romain works as an osteopath, that’s rather impressive
Lopareva/Brissaud: firmly settling in as one of my favorite RDs this season. So fun and campy, love the choreo and arm movements
CPom: fantastic performance here, love the twizzles & transition out. With H/B out this season they’re definitely the American team I’m rooting hardest for. Looking forward to seeing how this program becomes more refined over the season. (Bonus: love Madi’s coat in the k&c)
Canadanes: if you like pretty people and quality skating, this is the team for you. So happy they had a good performance at this event!
Guignard/Fabbri: these are Some Costumes. Also a campy program, some fun jazzercize vibes. Gorgeous twizzles, wonderful speed. Idk who cut this music tho cuz the songs didn’t really work together and I would’ve used a different section of holding out for a hero for the end instead of repeating the exact same bit.

Tim Dieck has seemed the most likely new partner for Olivia Smart when she said she's returning to competition next season - here he is with her and some skaters from Dancing on Ice, although he's not a part of the show🤔😅

Idk how hot of a take this is but I hate when skaters lean on the boards, especially on the judges' side. You have the entire ice surface. Stay there.

Olivia Smart and Tim Dieck as a new team-- they're both Aries Suns, but she's very Saturnian- her Sun is conjunct Saturn, her moon is in Saturn ruled Capricorn, so it makes her more measured, disciplined and strategic than most Aries. While he's an Aries with moon in either Mars ruled Scorpio or fiery Sag, so more impulsive, spontaneous, probably hot headed. She said her first partnership before Adrian didn't work out because they were too fiery. Well, this looks kind of fiery.
in their composite, they have Saturn trine Pluto, which can give you the ability to tough out difficulties, Saturn sextile Uranus- endurance. But also Mars square Saturn, which can mean not being on the same page, frustrations under the surface- so communication is key. And Mars inconjunct Jupiter which can be a mismatch of ego energy, a difference in how you want to get to where you're going, which could be an issue when you're in a partnership with such clear goals. And Venus square Uranus, which can make a relationship unstable - some teams who've had this split suddenly.
They do have positives in their synastry- his Mars conjuncts her Sun, Venus and Saturn- optimism, a sense they can grow together, that his enthusiasm helps her shine, that physically they're a match as partners and that there's chemistry, a sense that she can ground and focus him (though potentially he wants to go go go, and she'll be like hold up, we need a plan). Their Mercuries are conjunct- the way they think and communicate is very similar.
usually the composite has more to say than the synastry as time goes on, but i guess we'll see

Did you hear that Olivia is coming back with Tim Diego? Was no one else available ☠️?!?!
I think you mean Tim Dieck lol
And, I guess not? I don't think they match well, I've never enjoyed his skating, but I'm going to hold onto judgement until we actually see them skating together.

Absolute Skating interview with Marie-France Dubreuil - the whole thing is worth a read- about working with Kaori and Nathan and how she picks one non-ice dance skater or team per season to choreograph for, about working with Peng/Jin and Wang/Liu by zoom during covid, about embracing the Ukrainian team into the school
Let's talk a bit about your Academy. It's really inspiring to see your work and the growth of your school. And I loved how your students don't want to leave the sport when they retire, and you open opportunities for them, to work as coaches. There is a branch in London, Ontario now, with Scott Moir, Adrián Díaz and Madison Hubbell. Are there plans to open more?
I don't know. This also happened because we all couldn't travel so Scott started teaching in London and we said: "Okay, let's expand in Canada." We were stuck at home for a while and when you have a chance to work with champions like Scott or Madison... It was a privilege to teach them and now we have a common vision, so it just made sense for us to help them grow into the coaches we knew they could become and give them a "fast track". Because it takes time to build a school, but we've done it, we've spent ten years on the basic organisation of a school. And then we could just transfer it to another place and put the right people there and then it's going to grow much faster than what we built. If we can shave off some "building" time, then it's easy. And also, we were getting a lot of requests and couldn't fulfill them. So, it's nice to have another school to say: "No, we're full, but you have a great option." And the London school spent three weeks in Montreal in July, we really trained as a big camp. Storing energy like this is great for everyone.
I noticed that during this event, during practices and competition, you really give Scott his own space.
He is the head coach. But I'm always standing between Romain and Scott. If he needs something he just grabs me by the arm and we work together but he's the head coach of the London school.
