the plot of Time Bokan 24 is that history books are wrong about a bunch of things and the heroes travel time to discover the truth while the villains work for a textbook publishing company that doesn’t want to have to update its information. They’re all just silly things of course like “actually the wright brothers were one real guy and one scarecrow he used as a test dummy” but otherwise it’s all too believable

I remember seeing the premier trailer for Robotomy and the main characters Thrasher and Blastus stood out to me as two robots that would have been henchbots or minions working under a villain but didn't know who. A few years later, I watched this show Wander over Yonder, and saw the first villain, Lord Hater. At first, I imagined these two pairing with Hater similar to the villains from AOSTH (yes it was an old guilty pleasure), but after watching the second season of WOY and discovering Lord Dominator, I realize instead of Hater, Dominator having these two robots working for her actually makes up the "Terrible Trio" trope (personal favorite trope). The inspiration behind this came from an anime series called Time Bokan's Yatterman with its main villains the Doronbo gang, and a Western animated show "The Venture Bros" with the show's villains the Monarch and Henchman 21 & 24. The terrible trio's goal after Dominator's downfall would be to rebuild her villain reputation, finding and collecting Volcanium X or other powerful artifacts to power her future empire, and whether to conquer the galaxy this time or go back to destroying it (regardless the latter being in vain since the dead planets grew back life), but only to be constantly foiled by Wander and Sylvia, stronger villains, or actual galactic heroes (or a galactic government system if WOY would establish one).

Personally, if it weren't for the fact that both shows were mistreated badly by both their respective networks and cancelled, this trio could work together, why?

Dominator's minions are mostly robots she made. So, after her defeat, I like to imagine she required assistance and buys off parts of Thrasher and Blastus from a sleazy merchant with all the money she had left to build herself personal henchbots, but realized these robots are majorly harmless, and she can't afford any more for better robots, she would have to modify them from the ground up to be bad bots.

Thrasher and Blastus grew up in a planet where robots destroy each other on a daily basis, even having to move from planet to planet 6 times very month because they keep destroying their own planets, so even if Dominator still had her destructive nature, these two would be cool and just roll with her plans since they're used to planetary destruction.

Dominator doesn't have friends, nor does she have any interest in making one. Thrasher and Blastus are robots who have their own thoughts and even feelings, something that makes them stand out from most other robots, so having them work, interact, and get along with her would make some potential character development for Dominator while still being a villain.

Thrasher and Blastus from the original show may not be bad guys, but from what their school taught them is to become destructive and violent robots, something these two tend to struggle with but in some miracles still manage to pass and prevail. I imagine they would barely graduate and get pawned off to be someone's personal henchbots.

Dominator would be the boss of the group and in charge of how to rebuild her empire and ship and in occasions make plans for giant mecha robots (since she made her first ships and robots by herself). Thrasher and Blastus not only would provide their strengths, but Blastus coming up schemes and scams to raise money to build up Dominator's ship and robots, and Thrasher providing logical planning and advice to their boss, being the level-headed of the group.

Thrasher and Blastus had some experience on having feelings of hope, love, and friendship, that it literally almost got them killed, being sent to a giant sun, so they would destroy anyone who holds that ideology, especially Wander. Not to mention Jack McBrayer voice both Wander and Frenemy from Robotomy, who was obsessed with being Thrasher and Blastus’ friend, they went to meet Frenemy in person just to destroy him, so I imagine when Thrasher and Blastus meet and get to know Wander, they would straight up attack him, and anyone associated with him on sight.

(I also did some redesign for Dominator's attire; personally, I didn't like her official design from the show, especially after reading the reason why she dresses similar to Hater, so I gave her outfit some red and black to go with Blastus' blue and Thrasher's yellow, and designed her helmet based on Weenus' head design, since both characters look almost similar.)

It sucks that Yamamoto (2-3) and Eriko Hara (Ran, both pictured) are the only main character VAs still around today. Noriko Tsukase (Harubo) passed away in 1989, while Kei Tomiyama (Goh/Ippatsuman) died in 1995.

I've been wanting to watch some more Tatsunoko Productions anime. Where would you recommend someone start with the Time Bokan franchise? (as I understand it, there's multiple different series) Where would one start? And is the majority of it subbed in English?

all the time bokan series are available on internet archive unsubbed, save for the most recent adaption time bokan 24 which is subbed and on crunchyroll + kissanime and the like sites. currently yatterman and gyakuten ippatsuman are being fansubbed; the og yatterman is about 85% finished on youtube, the 2008 reboot is fully done on goanime, and ippatsuman needs to be downloaded from inkasubs for access, they'll release episodes in batches of five. the other series may have a few eps fully subbed but not the whole series.

id say the best series to start with is the og yatterman, since that's what truly made the time bokan series a big hit in japan!!

-I don’t really expect Twitter to die imminently and think people are freaking out for nothing. But in the event it actually does, I may use this account. Actually not a big tumblr fan but I do appreciate no character limit.

-Big fan of kids anime. Forever love Spider Riders (Buguese/Aqune OTP) and prone to ranting about it at random intervals but the fandom is deader than dead. Other favorites include Drive Head, Pikaia, Shinkalion, Pazudora, Girls x Heroines (toku but close enough), Battle Spirits, Gyrozetter, Earth Granner, Precure, Aikatsu, Pretty Series, Sanrio stuff like Fairilu/Jewelpet/Onegai My Melody, Duel Masters, Digimon, Doremi, Time Bokan 24, Inazuma Eleven, OG Bakugan, Yuusha... honestly I could go on and on. If it’s a kids anime I probably watched it, and if not it’s probably on my to-do list. TBH I don’t care for the Pokemon anime in the slightest but I love Pokemon themselves. Have too many favorites spanning all gens to list.

-Became a hardcore Tomica collector as a result of falling in love with Drive Head and discovering Hyper Series through there. Then the main line... then TLV... It’s a very slippery slope. Buses are my favorite to collect.

-I also like collecting gacha and trading figures of anime characters and other cute things. Occasionally Nendos but scales are way out of my price range. They make TLVs look cheap.

-Also longtime Gundam fan (G was pretty much my gateway drug to anime) and love mecha shows in general.

-As my current url implies, I’m a devotee to the Number One Genius Scientist in the World Dr. Karigari and I also adore Sasagawa and ship him with her. I also love to bully them both, and have plushies of them as my trademark.

-I’m very much a live-and-let-live person and I don’t enjoy confrontation. But I guess in a related sense I’m generally pretty shy and quiet. So please don’t take my silence as a sign of dislike. I’m interested in hearing what others have to say.

-Used to do a lot of writing (fanfic and original) and translation projects (JP -> EN). Kinda fell out of all that due to IRL stress, but just might fall back in one day.

Lawful Valid: TBH ChooChoo-taro as I call him (aka the Momotaro of Momotaro Dentetsu), has a mild toss up between this and Neutral valid because his early games had...scenes were he could peep on girls in the bath. But considering how the next Momotaro treats the typical conflict...this one is a lot more “law” abiding as they say.

Neutral Valid: Predecessor Momotaro as they’re called in the Grimms Notes series. This one accepted a man as a team member (and family) despite his circumstances. And hell, his fate was changed because of the man’s involvement. So he’s not really law abiding but he wants the best for everyone. (also he’s a trans man in my opinion.)

Chaotic Valid: The peach boy of this blog, heh. Zombie Panic in Wonderland! My own portrayal withstanding, this tiny child managed to destroy several buildings with a sword and machine gun in an attempt to ward away zombies. ...not the smartest move kid. But he keeps a look out for others, and does what he can to recover Wonderland.

Lawful Dumbass: Basically the ZPiW Momo, but less destructive and much more personality....which is dumbass. Yes, they both combatted zombies with firearms and swords. He very much gives respect to his partner, Red Riding Hood, in Zombie BBQ, and gives some levity to a very grim situation. ...Also you can’t tell me he’s not a dumbass for shouting WAZAI and needing Red’s help to clarify shit DESPITE being the one assigned to help her.

Neutral Dumbass: Momonyan of Yo-kai Watch is a cat. He can and will ditch his existing teammates for stronger allies, and perform adorable songs with other nyans only on a business level. But he still has some sense of nobility on him...we think. Might actually be a toss up with who I placed in Chaotic Dumbass...

Chaotic Dumbass: Another Grimms Notes. Looks adorable, sounds adorable...but lordy his sense of justice is wack. It may seem like he want to take down the onis for the greater good but...he seem to prefer to want to be greater than his predecessors. A tough accomplishment, especially due to how lackluster his fighting skills are. He even got corrupted by that greed, hence why he’s in this box.

Lawful Bastard: Give it up for Time Bokan 24! This dude’s an idol, and he’s relishing in that glory! He acts sweet to any of his fangirls...and girls in general. However, that ego of his is very much huge, and is part of a parody of how the idol industry works. HIs merch is expensive, and gives him reason to go reap the cash of the fans’ relatives akin to Onis.

Neutral Bastard: Honestly this take from Grimms Notes, the Chaos Momotaro, COULD be seen as lawful instead, but considering he can be found both as a boss and kinda ally in the game, he seems neutral to me...though I haven’t translated his stuff yet. (more info would be nice). Just by appearance (the other momo in the game) and voice, he seems to be corrupted by glory...and eating too many sweets.

Chaotic Bastard: Ogretale has one of the takes of Momotaro that shows the peach boy as villainous...though actually this is a descendant of Momotaro who was bored of being a barkeep and went hog wild on the onis. ...No I’m not lying that’s what the game description said. He just...went feral because he was bored of his life.
