Please forgive me for asking, I was only curious of your opinion because you are German. I like to ambiently follow the animation scene, and an artist I've silently kept an eye on over the years is Andreas Hykade, who made Tom und das Erdbeermarmeladebrot mit Honig. I don't know if he has any significance to you, or if that art form is significant to you at all, but I've been stewing over how often his personal films show women experiencing rape. They are surface level, I just cant watch them.

the guy who made TOM UND DAS ERDBEERMARMELADENBROT makes personal films with rape scenes??????? i feel sick

I wanna make an AU where Tom lives in a more realistic world. (As in: the world is not a small planet with only a few citizens living on it)
In this AU Tom is a 25 year old office worker who works in the big city and far away from his home town and his friends. (The anthro animals are all humans in this AU)
Another difference is that the Strawberry Mouse and the Crocodile don't live in Tom's old home.
Instead the strawberry mouse is Tom's boss and the crocodile is her secretary and husband.

German POST (I guess)
Tumblr media
Wir alle kennen noch Tom und das Erdbeermarmeladebrot mit Honig.  Nun Ich hab mir gedacht- was wäre wenn Tom, kein Zeichentrick sondern ein Anime gewesen wäre. Und nun ja-
Tumblr media
(For all my english peeps out there- I basically remembered that we had a show called Tom and the Strawberry jam bread with honey(?), and I decided to turn this beautifully detailed cartoon into an anime character- )

This is a bit embarrassing but um could you recommend any German kid shows I could watch? I'm trying to learn the language and adult shows speak way too fast for me to follow. I have looked it up but found only English ones that teach it.
First of all, you don’t have to be embarrased at all. I think it’s great that you’re trying to learn a new language. And watching kids shows is a very good way to do so! As a translation/language student, I should know. Besides, there’s no shame in liking kids shows, even as an adult, even if it’s ‘just’ out of nostalgia.
Now, I don’t know what kind of shows you like, how far along in learning German you are, or if you specifically want to watch German shows, not just shows in German. You can just watch English shows that have a German dub, there are a lot of them out there since Germany is a dubbing country. Spongebob, Pokémon, Disney shows, Nickelodeon shows, take any popular show and it’s very likely that it has a German dub.
There are a lot of live-action shows for kids but I guess for language learning, cartoons work better. I can give you a short list of German shows/dubbed German shows that are popular over here and you can see if one suits you.
Die Schule der kleinen Vampire (School of little Vampires) which is a show about a school for vampires and their feuds, friendships, relationships among themselves and with humans
Little Amadeus, a show about the life of young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (mostly fictionalized). It was one of my personal favorites growing up (especially because I thought the theme song’s a jam).
SimsalaGrimm is a very lovely show about two puppet friends who are sent into the world of the Grimm Brothers fairytales (and in later seasons also Hans Christian Andersen and more) where they help the hero of each fairytale (the kid-friendly versions, of course). I loved it so much as a kid, and you can ask any German who grew up with that show and they’re gonna tell you how lit the intro and outro songs are :’)
Die Biene Maja (Maya the Bee). My namesake. My personal curse. She will forever haunt me. Regardless, this show about a young, inquisitive, cheeky, smart bee is a beloved classic. There’s a new CGI version but I definitely prefer the original.
Tom und das Erdbeermarmeladebrot mit Honig (Tom and the Slice of Bread with Strawberry Jam and Honey) is a show with 5-minute episodes and a simple premise: Tom wants a slice of bread with strawberry jam and honey so he asks his friends for ingredients. It always ends with him having half a slice of his beloved sandwich but it makes him perfectly happy. It’s narrated by late German entertainer Dirk Bach and it’s really cute.
Jim Knopf is based on a book by Michael Ende and if you’re looking for a rich story with twists and turns and amazing characters in a wonderfully imaginative world, then please watch this.
Bernd das Brot (Bernd the Bread) isn’t just for older kids but also adults because sometimes the humor is very specific. Bernd is a grumpy, very sarcastic loaf of bread who only wants to sit alone at home all day and stare at the wall, but nobody ever lets him. His favorite expression: “Mist.” (”Crap.”) There’s a show about him living with his ‘friends’ Chilli the sheep and Briegel the bush who love to do experiments with him, much to his chagrin. But there’s also the famous TV night loop that fills the night broadcasting time of the kids channel Ki.Ka with a loop of the same short Bernd film. The premise: a robotic arm puts Bernd in front of what he calls the White Hell and, his only company being a computer voice, he has to do the entertainer all night long. His sarcastic nature, the everlasting feud between him and the computer voice, puns (especially bread puns) and pop-culture references make this absolutely hilarious. There are several different episodes, each with a theme, like nerd culture, social media, or the classic KiKa Lounge’. 10/10 would recommend!!!
Unfortunately, YouTube doesn’t provide subtitles for these, and I wouldn’t trust the automatic captions because they usually produce crap. But maybe Netflix & Co. in your country have German dubs and subs for shows you want to watch. Avatar: The Last Airbender, for instance, has a German dub and sub so you could go look for that.
This is only a very short list because I don’t know what exactly you’re looking for. But if you want, you can always send me more asks or direct messages and I can help you out further.
I hope this helps you!
