JAYNE MANSFIELD AND HER 5 BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN 💕

Mansfield has 5 children, and gave birth to her first child when she was only 17. Many of her kids are in show business, including Law and Order SVU Emmy Winner Mariska Hargitay.

Regardless of what has been claimed about Jayne over the years, most people agree that Jayne was a good mother. Jayne's five children were 16-1 at the time of her death.

Jayne Marie Mansfield – November 8, 1950

Jayne Marie is Jayne’s first child, fathered by Jayne’s first husband, Paul Mansfield.

Jayne Marie claimed that she was writing a biography on her mother but it has never materialized. July 1976 saw Jayne Marie’s debut in Playboy, making her the first daughter of a centerfold to also pose for Playboy in the magazine’s history. Jayne has been featured in several documentaries on her mother and is quite candid about their relationship.

Miklos (Mickey) Hargitay Jr. – December 21, 1958

Mickey is Jayne’s second child.

Zoltan Hargitay – August 1, 1960

Zoltan surviving being attacked by a lion is one of Hollywood’s most tragic accidents. Luckily Zoltan survived and is active on Facebook. He regularly posts pictures of his mother and is active in the Jayne community.

Mariska Hargitay – January 23, 1964

Jayne’s second daughter, Mariska Hargitay is most known for appearing as Olivia Benson on Law and Order: Special Victim’s Unit. She is the only one of Jayne’s children to focus exclusively on acting. For Mariska’s fourth birthday, former gossip columnist and friend to Jayne, May Mann, held a party to celebrate Mariska’s first birthday without her mother. Mariska reportedly heartbreakingly repeated how she wished her mother was present.

Tony Cimber – October 18, 1965

Tony is probably the least followed of Jayne’s children. He went on to work behind the scenes in shows such as GLOW and House of Mystery. He reportedly lives in Los Angeles, CA.

Santana’s GS Help Tribe Take 3 Of 4.

Indians 7 Twins 3 W-Hand (5-3) L-Rogers (2-3)

The Cleveland Indians came into Target Field and won the first two games of this huge four-game series to tie the Minnesota Twins in the American League Central. The Twins bested the Tribe last night, but the Indians had a chance to knot things up this afternoon in Minneapolis. The Indians offense got going early today. Greg Allen smoked a Jose Berrios fastball out to right in the first inning to put Cleveland on the board. Later in the first, Carlos Santana walked and Yasiel Puig doubled him home. The Indians had a two-run lead before the Twins grabbed a bat. The Twins got to work in the second inning as Eddie Rosario led-off with a double to right. Mitch Garver hit a sac fly to right and Luis Arraez hit a sacrifice fly to right to plate Rosario and put the Twins on the board. The Indians would get that run back in the third. Francisco Lindor led-off with a double and Carlos Santana plated him with a single of his own. Cleveland regained their two-run edge after three frames. Meanwhile, Aaron Civale and Jose Berrios threw up some zeroes and it was all up to the bullpens. Nick Goody got in and out of trouble in the seventh. Oliver Perez and Adam Cimber combined for a clean eighth to set-up Brad Hand. Eddie Rosario started the ninth with a double to right. With one out, Luis Arraez hit a run-scoring single to right. CJ Cron kept it going with a base hit to left. Ehire Adrianza ran for Cron at first base then Marwin Gonzalez doubled to left. Adrianza was waived around third by Tony Diaz, but was thrown out at the plate on a perfect relay by the Indians. Jonathan Schoop grounded out and we headed for extra innings. Taylor Rogers came on for the tenth and struggled. Kevin Plawecki singled to right, Francisco Lindor walked, and Greg Allen was bunting the runners over, but reached on a bunt single. This brought up Carlos Santana, who drilled a Taylor Rogers fastball out to left-center for a grand slam. This put the Tribe up 7-3 and Hunter Wood threw a 1-2-3 tenth. The Indians took three out of four from the Twins and are tied for first with a (71-47) record. 

-Final Thoughts- Jose Berrios had a solid outing this afternoon. He went six innings and allowed three runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Tyler Duffey got two outs in the seventh and Ryne Harper retired the two men he faced, Trevor May got out of the eighth and had a clean ninth. Taylor Rogers allowed four runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout in a rare bad outing. Cody Stashak got the last two outs of the tenth. Eddie Rosario, Luis Arraez, CJ Cron, and Marwin Gonzalez had two hits each. The Twins hit 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. The Twins have tomorrow off then face the Brewers in Milwaukee on Tuesday night. Martin Perez will face Chase Anderson in Game 1 from Miller Park.

Most glaring Trade Deadline needs for each contender

The Trade Deadline is three weeks from Friday, and while a handful of teams figure to be sellers during the coming weeks, more than two-thirds of the league is still within striking distance of a postseason berth.

What moves would help those teams make a run with an eye toward October? Some of the teams below might ultimately wind up selling off pieces by the end of the month, but as of Tuesday, each of these 21 clubs took the field within 7 1/2 games of a postseason spot.

Some teams have more than one hole to fill, but here’s a look at the most glaring need for each team as executives look to bolster their rosters for the second half.

Red Sox: First baseman Boston’s .663 OPS at first base ranks 12th in the AL, though Bobby Dalbec has 10 home runs in 226 at-bats. The Red Sox lineup is predominantly right-handed — Rafael Devers and Alex Verdugo are the only everyday lefties, while Marwin Gonzalez is a switch-hitter — so adding a left-handed bat would be preferable. Potential fit: C.J. Cron, Rockies

Rays: Starting pitcher It’s unclear when — or if — the Rays will get injured ace Tyler Glasnow back. (He’s optimistic he’ll return before the postseason, but it’s still too early to say.) In his absence, Tampa Bay hasn’t been able to replace his top-of-the-rotation production; entering Wednesday, the Rays only have two starters with an ERA+ better than league average: 41-year-old Rich Hill and soft-contact specialist Josh Fleming. Perhaps rookies Shane McClanahan or Luis Patiño will step forward to fill the void, or prospect Shane Baz or veteran Chris Archer will provide a late-season boost, but adding a frontline starter would help the Rays in their effort to overtake the Red Sox. Potential fit: Kyle Gibson, Rangers

Blue Jays: Relief pitcher Toronto’s acquisition of Adam Cimber was a start, but the Blue Jays — who also acquired Trevor Richards from the Brewers Tuesday in a deal for Rowdy Tellez — are in need of more relief help for the second half. The Jays have dealt with their share of injuries this season (then again, who hasn’t?), but in an ultra-competitive AL East, Toronto will need to bring in a relief arm or two (not to mention at least one starter) to take aim at the division title. Potential fit: Richard Rodríguez, Pirates

Yankees: Starting pitcher The Yankees’ roster doesn’t have many holes, though underperformance by players such as Gleyber Torres, DJ LeMahieu and Clint Frazier gives off a different impression. If those players can bounce back in the second half, the most glaring need is a starting pitcher to slot in behind Gerrit Cole and Corey Kluber, assuming the latter can return from the injured list and regain his early-season form. Potential fit: Tyler Anderson, Pirates

White Sox: Second baseman The biggest second-half acquisitions for the White Sox would be the return of Eloy Jiménez and Luis Robert, but Nick Madrigal’s season-ending injury left a gaping hole at second base that Chicago will likely address before the Trade Deadline. Given Madrigal’s age and control, a rental second baseman would be the logical move for the White Sox, who will also be in the market for bullpen help like nearly every other contender. Potential fit: Adam Frazier, Pirates

Indians: Outfielder Eddie Rosario’s abdominal injury was a big blow to the Cleveland lineup, taking away one of the club’s more productive hitters. The Indians’ outfield has a collective .713 OPS (10th in the AL), making a solid outfield bat a must-add for the second half. Cleveland could also use some starting pitching depth, even with Zach Plesac set to rejoin the rotation from the injured list. Potential fit: David Peralta, D-Backs

Astros: Relief pitcher Houston could get some relievers back from the injured list in the coming weeks (Joe Smith, Bryan Abreu, Josh James and perhaps Pedro Báez), but adding a dependable reliever to pair with Ryan Pressly would make Houston a strong favorite in the AL West. Potential fit: Taylor Rogers, Twins

Athletics: Relief pitcher Houston isn’t the only AL West contender in need of bullpen help. Oakland’s relief corps features just two dependable late-inning options (Yusmeiro Petit and Lou Trivino), though Sergio Romo has been better of late. Adding another high-leverage reliever would go a long way for the Athletics, who could also use another power bat such as Nelson Cruz. Potential fit: Daniel Bard, Rockies

Mariners: Outfielder/DH The surprising Mariners won’t be dealing away any of their prime young assets for short-term fixes, but GM Jerry Dipoto has always been willing to make a deal when the right one presents itself. Seattle could certainly use an arm or two in both the rotation and bullpen, but the lineup needs to be better if the Mariners plan to contend for a postseason spot. Adding an outfielder or a designated hitter on an expiring contract could help the cause without blocking the path for top prospects Jarred Kelenic and Julio Rodríguez in the long-term. Potential fit: Nelson Cruz, Twins

Angels: Starting pitcher The Angels have survived the absence of Mike Trout to this point, climbing back to the .500 mark as they seek their first postseason appearance since 2014. The rotation’s 5.26 ERA ranks 13th in the AL, so adding a starter (or two) would seem to be the obvious move for GM Perry Minasian if Los Angeles plans to be in the mix down the stretch. Potential fit: Danny Duffy, Royals

Mets: Starting pitcher The Mets’ offense has struggled for most of the season, but recent setbacks for both Carlos Carrasco and Noah Syndergaard have accentuated the need for New York to add a starter to slot in behind Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman and Taijuan Walker. The Mets have plenty of talent in the lineup; as long as Francisco Lindor can bounce back and Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith can continue their recent production, the offense should correct itself without any major acquisitions. Potential fit: José Berríos, Twins

Nationals: Starting pitcher Max Scherzer continues to do his thing at the age of 36, but the rest of the Washington rotation has been inconsistent all season. There is no timetable for Stephen Strasburg’s return, while Jon Lester looks like his best days are behind him. The NL East is still up for grabs, making the addition of a starter (or two) the clear direction for the Nationals if they want to contend. Potential fit: Jon Gray, Rockies

Braves: Impact bat That may sound vague, but the Braves have a couple of options depending on who they can acquire. In a perfect world, a left fielder would be the ideal candidate, but Atlanta could also add a third baseman and move Austin Riley to left field. Either way, the need for an additional offensive weapon is clear cut. Potential fit: Joey Gallo, Rangers

Phillies: Relief pitcher This feels like an annual thing for the Phillies, who have struggled to put together a solid bullpen for several years. Philadelphia could also use some back-of-the-rotation help, but the Phillies’ 4.78 bullpen ERA ranks 12th in the NL and shows no signs of getting better. Philly’s biggest problem? The team’s farm system ranked 23rd in MLB Pipeline’s preseason rankings, leaving a scarcity of quality prospects from which to deal. Potential fit: Ian Kennedy, Rangers

Brewers: Third baseman Luis Urías has held his own at the hot corner, but the Brewers could use an upgrade to bolster their lineup. Having already addressed first base (Rowdy Tellez) and shortstop (Willy Adames), Milwaukee is clearly trying to boost its offense to give its stellar pitching staff some run support. Potential fit: Eduardo Escobar, D-backs

Reds: Relief pitcher Following Tuesday’s walk-off loss to the Royals, the Reds’ 5.29 bullpen ERA ranked 14th out of 15 NL clubs, making the bullpen the obvious area of weakness in Cincinnati. Seven different relievers have earned at least one save this season, so adding a lockdown ninth-inning option would benefit the Reds, who have a stable of relievers with ERAs north of 5.00. Potential fit: Yimi García, Marlins

Cubs: Starting pitcher The Cubs’ lineup has struggled during the recent slide, but if Chicago is going to add, the rotation should be the top target. The rotation’s 4.58 ERA ranks 13th in the NL thanks to inconsistency from every starter not named Kyle Hendricks. Of course, the lengthy losing streak has dampened most hopes that the Cubs — who traded Yu Darvish this offseason — will become big buyers in the coming weeks. Potential fit: Matthew Boyd, Tigers

Cardinals: Relief pitcher The return of Jack Flaherty and Miles Mikolas from the injured list should remove the need to add a starter, but the Cardinals’ bullpen could certainly use some help. St. Louis will likely try to add another relief arm that manager Mike Shildt can trust in the late innings to go with Giovanny Gallegos, Alex Reyes and Génesis Cabrera. Potential fit: Kendall Graveman, Mariners

Giants: Starting pitcher Kevin Gausman and Anthony DeSclafani have been a solid 1-2 punch for the Giants, but the back end of the rotation has been impacted by injuries. Adding some rotation depth should be at the front of San Francisco’s list, as the Giants’ roster doesn’t have many other holes that need to be addressed. Potential fit: Danny Duffy, Royals

Dodgers: Starting pitcher The Dodgers were already in need of a starter before Trevor Bauer was placed on administrative leave, making it possible that Los Angeles will need to add two arms to the rotation this month. Julio Urías has already set a career high with 99 1/3 innings pitched, while Tony Gonsolin missed two months with a shoulder injury. Top pitching prospect Josiah Gray also missed two months, and there are questions as to whether he can make an impact in the Majors this season. Potential fit: J.A. Happ, Twins

Padres: Starting pitcher San Diego could use some bullpen help and an outfield bat, but the rotation is arguably the club’s biggest need given Dinelson Lamet’s health, Blake Snell’s inconsistency and Ryan Weathers’ potential workload limitations (he’s thrown 51 1/3 innings, more than half of his career-high 96 from 2019). Potential fit: Michael Pineda, Twins

F for Fake: A study of Orson Welles’ film noses - Part 4: The 1970s & 1980s

Following on from Orson’s 1940s noses (here), 1950s noses (here), and 1960s noses (here) with the running total at real 22 : 31 fake, we slide irrevocably into the final stages of Orson’s career, the 1970s and 1980s. 

Ok, the 1960s were hard work, folks, but they look like a shining beacon of greatness compared to what comes after. Don’t get me wrong, Orson is always always great, and there are some wonderful moments, but they’re few and far between. But it’s ok, because it funded F for Fake, and gave him hope, and hey, he worked with the Muppets. 

I’m very sad to bring this to a close, because it’s the most ridiculous thing I think I’ve ever dedicated my time and research to, but I’ll be glad to get back to my favourite Orsons, be it Mike O’Hara, or Macbeth, or Rochester, or Harry Lime, or Orson in his very own skin, and - praise the baby cheeses - own nose.

EVERYTHING IS REAL INCLUDING THE MAGIC. Orson at his most wonderfully benevolently uncle-ish.  

Ten Day’s Wonder (La Décade prodigieuse) [d: Claude Chabrol, 1971]

Nose: Fake 

Colour film is not as forgiving of nose putty as black and white, Orson, but it’s ok, he’s reunited with Tony Perkins (again). This is Orson’s own beard, which will be a staple of the 1970s.

Necromancy [d: Bert I Gordon, 1972]

Character: Mr Cato

Nose: Fake

This film is available on dvd, whereas some Orson films (and indeed some classics of cinema) are not. There is no justice in the world. 

Also: this marks the end of the fake noses. I think Orson was finally at the point where he didn’t feel the need to age himself up (he was nearly sixty, after all). Or possibly he just couldn’t be arsed any more.

Get To Know Your Rabbit [d: Brian de Palma, 1972]

Character: Mr Delasandro

Nose: Real

Orson is another magician (yay!) teaching a tap-dancing newbie magician (whut?) in a film that de Palma (up til then a comedy film maker) was kicked off before the end. Hmm.

Treasure Island [d: John Hough, 1972]

Fun fact: the script was originally written by Orson in the 60s, but by the time this was filmed, it had been rewritten so much Orson asked to be credited pseudonymously as O.W. Jeeves.

Dear god it is a relief to have not just a great Orson performance but a joy of an Orson-directed film. Is there any greater line delivery than ‘for the last seventeen minutes I’ve been lying my head off’?

Nose: Real

The nose (and beard and hair) are real, but the eyebrows are disturbingly tiny.

The Muppet Movie [d: James Frawley, 1979]

One of Orson’s shortest and best cameos, in a film that is the opposite of rubbish (although it’s not my fave Muppet film, that’s The Great Muppet Caper, shout out to Charles Grodin for being fucking amazing in it).

The Secret of Nikolai Tesla [d: Krsto Papic, 1980]

Orson’s final real-person film role, in a Yugoslavian film about Tesla. He gets to sit in a fancy chair (can you tell I have not watched this film properly, give me a break, the eighties are hard work).

Excellent hair work from Orson here. This film got ten nominations at the ‘82 Razzies. I leave you to decide if it’s worth watching.

This is all I have, apart from the fact that this film also stars Tony Curtis and Donald Pleasence, has never had a vhs or dvd release, and Orson plays a gypsy. Yeah.

Hot Money [d: Zale Magder, 1985]

Character: Sheriff Paisley

Nose: Real

I don’t even have anything to say apart from that is an authentic 80s glasses choice there, Orson.

Someone To Love [d: Henry Jaglom, 1987]

Character: Danny’s Friend

Nose: Real

Posthumously released, and never mentioned (how many times have you heard that Orson’s last role was in The Transformers Movie? - this was produced before but released after that). It’s not a great swan song, but then, Orson was always going on to the next thing, and was also never one to be precious about these things. All these last films were making him money so he could make another film (or finish The Other Side of the Wind, or get another start on Quixote). 

SO! The 70s and 80s total is real 13 : 4 fake bringing the grand total up to real 35 : 35 fake NO FUCKING WAY IT’S A DRAW! I did not expect that. 

At the time he made his wild claim he was at real 11 : 10 fake which was far more representative than I thought it would be of the total. 

WOW. It’s finally the end. It’s been a joy, a trial, a moving and frustrating experience. I’ve watched films I wouldn’t have watched, I’ve scrolled through films I will never watch, and I still - after all this - fucking love Orson like no-one else. 

And now I can go back and start again with my faves.

Assessing the bullpens after a wild trade deadline

Now that the dust has settled after the trade deadline, here’s some quick trivia: Which team does Zach Duke pitch for? How about Darren O’Day? Or Seunghwan Oh?

It seemed like every contender wanted to add another arm or two in the bullpen, making the hours and days leading up to last week’s non-waiver trade deadline feel like a giant game of musical chairs for relievers. The importance of relief pitching in the postseason has been obvious for a while now. Last year, the Yankees got just one out from their starting pitcher in the American League wild-card game against Minnesota, but four relievers went the rest of the way, and New York was able to advance.

With so many off days built into the schedule in the playoffs, teams can push their top relievers more. Here are a few bullpens to watch down the stretch.

(But first, the trivia answers: Duke was traded to Seattle, O’Day was dealt to Atlanta, and Oh is with Colorado now.)

Chicago Cubs: If you made a list of the absolute top relievers in baseball, you probably wouldn’t include any of the Cubs, but manager Joe Maddon has a fair number of good options. Steve Cishek (1.93 ERA) is having a fine year, while Pedro Strop and Justin Wilson have been pretty reliable. Carl Edwards Jr. has 53 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings.

Closer Brandon Morrow has dealt with injury problems, but the Cubs have the NL’s best record anyway, and the bullpen is part of the reason.

Cleveland Indians: The bullpen carried the Indians to the World Series two years ago, but it was a weak link earlier this season. With a sizable lead in the AL Central, Cleveland now has plenty of time to get its relief pitching in order. The Indians bolstered their depth by acquiring Brad Hand and Adam Cimber from San Diego, and now Andrew Miller is back from the disabled list. If Miller returns to form, Cleveland’s bullpen could become an asset again, but closer Cody Allen is a concern, with his 4.27 ERA.

Houston Astros: Houston has the best bullpen ERA in baseball despite the struggles of Ken Giles, who was eventually sent down to the minors and then traded to Toronto. That deal was a controversial one, bringing Roberto Osuna to the Astros. Osuna was still serving a suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy.

The Astros obviously think Osuna can help them, but they’re in good shape regardless. Hector Rondon has shown he can close, and there are plenty of other solid arms contributing for the defending World Series champions. Will Harris has been better than his 4.24 ERA suggests, and Collin McHugh leads the team in relief innings while holding opponents to a .144 average. Left-hander Tony Sipp is having quite a season at age 35, posting a 1.63 ERA.

Milwaukee Brewers: Milwaukee is one of the teams that apparently believes you can never have too many good relievers. With the trio of Corey Knebel, Josh Hader and Jeremy Jeffress already having a huge season, the Brewers added Joakim Soria before the deadline. Jeffress is 6-1 with a 1.34 ERA, and Hader has 101 strikeouts, only 10 off starter Junior Guerra’s team-leading total.

New York Yankees: The Yankees blew a three-run ninth-inning lead at Boston on Sunday night, proving that no bullpen is completely foolproof. Still, with Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances and David Robertson in the fold, the Yankees have a major league-best 504 strikeouts from relievers this year. (For context, Kansas City’s incredible 2015 bullpen had 502 strikeouts for the entire season.)

New York recently acquired former Baltimore star Zach Britton, who isn’t that far removed from a 47-save season in 2016.
