A Permanent Red Stain: Redamancy
Chapter 1
KyiGo, is a woman in her 30's, divorced from her ex after 5 years of marriage, leaving her with a two year old daughter to raise. After a year of being single, trying to find self-love and her self-worth again, she finally wanted to step back out into the world and discover something worth wild. From understanding her hatred to understanding the person that it turned her into, she will always try and do what's best for her baby girl. Even if it meant sacrificing her happiness? Even if that may mean stepping into a new love she never imagined? Or breaking the cycle of being afraid to love again....
Tumblr media
I was tired. So tired that I couldn't even keep my eyes open but I knew I had to get home, cook, clean and get my daughter ready for school tomorrow. That also meant the possibility of me putting up a slight with her to get her to sleep in time if i could. Luri, still being the age of two, was still attached and wanted to cuddle up under me every chance that my little monster got. Every time we were alone, that was our comfort in peace. She was my baby girl and I loved her more than anything. She was all that I had, and I was grateful. I couldn't ask for anything else or anything more.
The house seemed like it was always a complete mess with her toys all over the floor, but I was even still too tired to bend over to clean them up every evening when I made it home from work.
Fuck It, ill do it tomorrow… (That was my main motto. I'll do it tomorrow. But even in Tomorrow, I knew I would be the definition of too busy.)
I felt like I was even too busy to have a life of my own…..
Finally after a long night of cooking and cleaning, I was able to soundly get her to bed, this was the only time that i could squeeze a moment in for myself. And that was to be replaced with a nice, hot, long shower. I would consider this.. the best part of my day, not including spending time with my daughter of course. Yes she was my everything. My entire world. The air that I breathe.. But it was nice to get some ‘me’ time in even if that meant that I had to step away for a moment from ‘The Mommy Life.’
Getting my main essentials ready for my shower, that I placed on the sink, I looked in the mirror fluffing up my short curly black locks that I cut off a few months ago. I was accustomed to having long hair for years, so I decided to cut it all off. When I mean I cut it all off, I went from sixteen inches to having a short undercut with a curly top. And I was completely in love with it. It was different, new but it was easy to take care of. Being a black woman in the black society, your hair was and has always been deemed as ‘your crown’, and if you didn't have the long black, Aesthetic look, you were basically judged for it. I thought it was the most stupid thing so I did the complete opposite. And I'm glad that I did because I don't regret it one bit. Aside from that I had the hair grade to pull off any hairstyle.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I always notice my large breasts that grew up two sizes after having my daughter, is something that I still very well have to get used to. My light stretch marks that curled down my hip dips and around my waist, complimented me more than they used to before I had kids. My semi light toasty skin hue, that changed colors during the seasons. My small seven foot size with my tiny toes. I had no type of ass, but I must admit, it was soft. I always have a smile on my face when I would rub it every now and then. A slight jiggle is all I had but it was all I needed. I was very petite and somewhat slim except for the gut my little one gave me after birth that I've grown to actually love. So right now, I was just as pale as the slice of bread my daughter left for me on the floor as a gift this evening.
(Being a mother of one, I  always tried to compliment myself every chance that I got. Even if it was in silence. Even if it was hard. Even on my toughest days I had to be the one to bring myself up for my own protection. Like I said, even if it was hard. And there were times it was hard….)
“Shit…..” This felt so good. I thought to myself as I let the hot water span down my naked body, standing under the shower, with my mouth open, nipples hard from the warm water sliding off them. I wish I had someone who could touch me right now. Just maybe hold me for a second. I opened my eyes to know the reality of my thoughts were just as dry as the hot air that blew from the heater.
(Why… Do I always think like this in the shower? Of all places. It seems like it never fails…)
“Mama…” I then opened my eyes again to the sound of my baby girl crying, knowing that certainly meant she was missing me. That I wasn't beside her like I needed to be.  “Well then… I guess that means my time is up for the night. It really was nice while it lasted…” I said in a low tone to myself, turning off the water and grabbed a towel to dry myself off.
I took my hand, wiping it across the fog to clear my reflection in the mirror. But I couldn't help but notice the look I had in my eyes. The look in my eyes.. was somewhat.. soulless? Like something was still missing in my life. I couldn't help but let out a soft sigh and crack a small grin on the corner of my lips to let myself know ‘It was alright..’ I always tried to convince myself that it wasn't love… But I knew deep down, thats what it fucking was. That I wanted someone to just love me right for once.
After getting dressed for bed, I held my daughter close as we went to sleep for the night. Ready to repeat the same day tomorrow. I kissed her gently, holding her in my arms in a sweet embrace that warmed my heart until we both fell asleep.
I was just ready for the weekend…….
That next morning came and I was already ready to get the day over with. I was just ready to execute the plans I made for Luri and I for the weekend. Which included going to see the new Dora movie that came out in theaters last weekend. (Her idea though.) I won't lie, I was super excited to finally be able to relax and spend some quality time with her. Especially knowing I'd be off for the next couple of days.
After about a ten minute drive I finally made it up to her school. All the parents were rushing in the back seats of their cars, unhooking their babies from their car seats, and running them into their classes so they wouldn't be late for work. I won't lie, I was actually one of them.
Finally entering the building, I took my baby girl into her classroom, which was the second door to the right of the walkway entrance. When I would go in, I'd  usually just hand her to the teacher and leave after waving goodbye to her…. But her teacher wasn't there today.  “Hey Nobara, Sarah isn't here today?” Nobara was Sarah's other assistant in class that helped with handling the kids when she wasn't in attendance. As I looked around the corner of the classroom, I noticed I didn't see my daughter as she walked off around the corner to the bathroom.
“No.. She's out sick for the week with covid. It's been really going around.” Fucking great! That's really what I needed to hear. That's all I need right now. As she was changing another child on the changing table I looked around for Luri before I walked off, but I still didn't see her.
“Such a beautiful girl you are. I love your eyebrows!” Said the voice of a tall pale man coming from around the corner with my daughter in his arms with her coat over his shoulder. I immediately stopped because it caught me off guard. (Someone I didn't know  was holding my daughter.)
“KyiGo ….” Nobara said walking up to me, cleaning her hands off with another baby wipe. I was still glued to this man as he too walked up to me with “My” daughter in his arms. “This is Choso. He's going to be filling in for Sarah until she gets back from sick leave.” He stood her down on the ground and we watched as she ran off with the other kids.
“Hey I'm Choso.” He said hold my hand out to shake. I shook it but I was still hesitant about someone that was new around my baby girl.
“Nice to meet you Choso… I'm KyiGo.” I said releasing his hand. His skin was cool to the touch but gentle at the same time. He too was somewhat an odd one though. He was dressed in all black, black Nike high tops, a black G-Shock watch on his wrist..(Which was my favorite watch brand. But I haven't been able to get as of late because they ‘were’ pretty expensive.) Black hair that he kept in a bun with a few free bangs hanging down over his Amber eyes that darkened as he stood in front of me. His pink lips….
(Wait..Wh…Why am I looking at his lips? His lips of all things..Hang on, that smell though. Is that Top Boy Cologne?)
(Please snap out of it Go…)
“Your daughter has the thickest eyebrows!” He said with a soft smile. Nobara was sitting there, slightly looking at me giggling behind Choso. From the expression on her face she could tell my thoughts trailed off..slightly.
“Thank you… Mr. Choso right? I have no idea where she gets them from.” I could tell I was slightly blushing and I wanted to slap myself with both hands. And as hard as I could too.
He turned around slowly and started to walk towards the kids, cracking a small smirk on the side of his mouth making a soft “mhp” sound under his breath. “Just Choso. Added, she gets them from you.” He turned around walking to play with the babies. My daughter one of them.
I could promise that at that moment my eyes seemed to be the exact  replica as Jasper from Twilight right about now. I had to turn my head away from the classroom because I knew for a fact it was  fire fucking red in this daycare. Nobara was ‘still’ giggling, not making the situation any better. I was so embarrassed as I bit down on my lip to where I felt it was about to bleed. “Mmmhhppp” was the softly sound that murmured from my mouth.
My back was still turned as I waved bye to my baby girl, as I walked as quickly as I could out the school door and to my car. Rushing to unlock it, I opened the door, jumped into the seat and looked into the rear view. My face was so flushed. To the point where it looked like I absolutely had on makeup. Plus I never wore makeup unless it was a special occasion.
Choso… That was his name right? Choso?
Wait.. No..
What am I doing? Why am I thinking about his name? Why am I..thinking about him?

tiktoks that there would be if borrowers existed and hung around humans
borrowers seeing themselves in the mirror for the first time and not passing the mirror test for a few minutes
humans annoying their borrower friends by just picking them up and bringing them wherever they are going (the comments call the human mean even though the borrower is clearly laughing the entire time)
borrowers in places that are surprising, like on the roof for some reason
PRANK WARS (I would pay to see borrower vs human prank wars 😭)
borrowers learning human slang or learning about animals they've never heard of before like whales or okapis or smth
how to make tiny things for your tiny friends (food, furniture, etc)
house tour but it's inside the walls
two tiktokers find out they live in the same house, one a borrower, one a human
showing my borrower friend places they've probably never seen
one borrower gets really famous by pretending to be human and clowning on them for all the silly things they do
the best fabric/paper clips/etc for borrower crafting

BORROWER HEADCANONS
im bored, I should be writing but here's some of my favorite borrower headcanons instead (ask your headcanons or ask for more of mine or clarification!! I love this stuff!!)
borrower "culture" isn't really a thing. If you found two borrowers from separate places and asked them what holidays they celebrate or if they have a hierarchy, they'd most likely give you completely different answers (that means the rest of the list is basically only true for some borrowers in my head)
borrowers don't track time like humans. Ofc they still have like morning and evening and so on, but they don't have hours or minutes or years in the way we use them.
Adding to the last bit, borrowers don't do birthdays. Since they don't really have numbered days, at most they remember whether they were born in early or late (insert season here). Age is counted by seasons and being an older borrower usually means being respected far more.
borrowers don't really do gender. it's really not a big deal when you're fighting for your food and life constantly. Pronouns are just things they borrow from humans, they're not really attached to them.
skirts and dresses are impeding to most borrower things so wearing them is either luxurious and shows that a borrower doesn't need to work or lazy. Again gender isn't really a thing so they can be worn by anyone as long as they don't need to be constantly alert.
hair length is usually a personal decision. Long hair is warm and can be tied up easily, but can get caught in things and does take maintenance. Not as much maintenance as human hair would at that length, but still some. (borrowers can usually brush the tangles out of their hair with just their fingers.) Short hair is a lot more permanently out of the way but often needs to be cut fairly regularly to stay at that length.
hair color can affect what length borrowers choose to keep their hair at. Black haired borrowers might keep long hair and even put it semi down so they're harder to see in the darkness. Red or blonde haired borrowers might have to keep it short because it could easily get them spotted.
borrowers that live/work alone tend to be more cutthroat than colonies of borrowers. They can't rely on much and if you are hindering their work they will cut you loose so fast.
on the other hand, colonies tend to be more strict about rules and such. The rules vary greatly, but they tend to stick to them and not forgive even small transgressions. Basically if you're a rule breaker you're gonna get yeeted.
if a lone borrower is crazy, it's kinda just like eh, they're alone so long it makes sense for them to be like that. Often if they aren't like actually just randomly biting people, they can still be decent ally's.
if a colony is crazy, you're fucked. That is a borrower cult, my guy. They have already completely convinced themselves and each other that they are the sane ones, there's no way to get through to them. Plus they tend to have the numbers to do really bad things, for instance: sacrifices.
some borrowers do have religion!! It can be anything from whatever religion the humans had put through a game of telephone or something humans would consider to be a lot like witchcraft!
Borrowers often get their names from 1. human names (usually misheard or misspelled) 2. something precious to the parents, like how some humans are named after gems 3. just a random word that someone heard and decided would make a good name, or 4. another borrower.
moving house is just as dangerous if a borrower moves into somewhere with borrowers already as if it's an empty place. The best scenario would probably be a group of borrowers too small to be considered a colony that don't mind sharing or a recently evacuated home. (you would have to consider why they left, though.)
borrowers sit wherever they goddamn please. on the floor? yep. on the edge of a table next to a drop that would definitely kill them? yeah, sure. on top of a borrower sized table? it's comfy! wherever they happen to be standing and find out they're going to be there a while? just plopped down on the spot. They are also incredibly fast at getting up, so there's no worry about being stuck sitting when something happens.
beds aren't really a thing for borrowers either. They have to be able to sleep wherever they are so they don't get tired and make stupid mistakes. The closest thing to a human concept of a bed would probably be a few comfortable scraps of fabric in a bit of a messy nest. Easy to move and rearrange. Some borrowers just sleep on the ground or cuddle with other borrowers.
Candy is as precious as gems. Unfortunately, just about as useful as them, too, but sweet things are hardly ever left out or abandoned.
The main overarching rule for borrowers is don't get caught and if you do, don't reveal the rest of the borrowers to humans. Different rules spawn from this like don't speak to humans or don't go out during the day or whatever, but those are the ones all borrowers basically would get as a kid.
Borrowers are kind of desensitized to violence and death. All their lives they are constantly thinking about it possibly happening, and depending on where they live, may have seen many others bite the dust. It's just a part of being a borrower.
Borrowers have INCREDIBLY dark humor. They'll absolutely be joking about how their best friend got severely injured the moment they're safe. Maybe even before depending on the borrower.
Some borrowers are more animalistic than others. It's a trait that's sort of passed down like what eye color you have. Some borrowers have cat-like eyes that adjust to the dark well but are mid sighted and color blind. Some borrowers can purr or chirp. Some are more capable of eating raw meat or random stuff they find on the ground. Some have tails for balance or animal ears.
Many borrowers have weird special talents that seemingly come out of nowhere. One may be able to jump stupidly high while the other can smell everything and discern what is going on in the next room.
borrowers get overstimulated SO EASILY. loud? no thanks. lots of movement that they try to automatically track all at once? eugh. bright colors that hurt their eyes and distract them? bad.
crows and borrowers often have symbiotic relationships. Borrowers share a little food and time/conversation and the crow distracts the human or gives them a ride or protects them from other animals. they are friends <3
Most borrowers don't have any other name than their first unless they live in a place with a LOT of other borrowers and need to distinguish where they're from.
TLDR; I never stop thinking about borrowers. I am a borrower nerd. I will keep on talking about this forever.

How To Do Permanent Microblading And How Long Does It Last?
Tumblr media
Eyebrows have a significant impact on our facial appearance. They frame the eyes and play a crucial role in defining our facial expressions. For those who desire well-defined and perfectly shaped brows without the daily hassle of filling them in, permanent microblading can be an excellent solution. In this blog post, we will explore what permanent microblading is, the process involved, and how long you can expect it to last.
KNK Makeup Studio, known for its skilled makeup artists in Lucknow, offers an impeccable solution for those seeking eyebrow perfection through permanent microblading. In this blog, we'll explore the intricacies of permanent microblading and how long you can expect it to last.
What is Permanent Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure that involves using a fine blade to deposit pigment into the skin, creating natural-looking, fuller eyebrows. It is a precise art that requires the expertise of trained professionals, such as those at KNK Makeup Studio. Permanent microblading is essentially the same technique but designed to provide longer-lasting results, so you can wake up with flawless brows every day.
The Process
1. Consultation: The first step is a consultation with a trained and certified microblading technician. During this consultation, you can discuss your desired eyebrow shape, color, and overall look. The technician will also assess your skin type and tone to determine the most suitable pigment.
2. Numbing: Before the microblading procedure begins, a topical numbing cream is applied to minimize any discomfort or pain.
3. Mapping and Design: The technician will use specialized tools to measure and map out the desired eyebrow shape. This step ensures that the final result is symmetrical and tailored to your facial features.
4. Microblading: Using a microblading pen, the technician will create fine, hair-like strokes by gently etching the pigment into the top layer of your skin. This process can take anywhere from one to two hours, depending on the complexity of your desired look.
5. Pigment Application: Once the strokes are made, the technician applies pigment over them, allowing it to be absorbed into the skin.
6. Healing: After the procedure, you may experience some redness and minor scabbing, which is entirely normal. It's crucial to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your technician to ensure proper healing.
How Long Does Permanent Microblading Last?
Permanent microblading is a semi-permanent technique, and its longevity can vary from person to person. Several factors can affect how long your microbladed eyebrows will last:
1. Skin Type: Oily skin tends to break down pigment faster, resulting in shorter-lasting results compared to those with drier skin.
2. Lifestyle: Sun exposure, swimming, and the use of skincare products with active ingredients can fade the pigment more quickly.
3. Technician's Skill: The experience and skill of the technician performing the procedure can also impact the longevity of your microblading. A well-trained professional will use high-quality pigments and ensure the strokes are deposited at the correct depth for longer-lasting results.
On average, permanent microblading can last anywhere from 1 to 3 years. However, it's essential to note that it's called "semi-permanent" for a reason, as the pigment will gradually fade over time. To maintain your desired brow shape and color, touch-up sessions are recommended every 12 to 18 months.
Conclusion
Permanent microblading is an excellent option for those looking to achieve well-defined and natural-looking eyebrows without the daily hassle of makeup application. With the right technician and proper aftercare, your microblading results can last for an extended period, providing you with beautiful brows that enhance your facial features.
Remember that maintenance is key to keeping your brows looking their best, so be prepared for periodic touch-up sessions to ensure your desired look endures.
Permanent microblading at KNK Makeup Studio is the key to achieving flawless, hassle-free eyebrows. Their team of talented makeup artists in Lucknow ensures that every client leaves with brows that complement their unique beauty. So, if you're searching for "microblading eyebrow near me" or wondering about the "eyebrow microblading cost," remember that investing in the art of permanent microblading is an investment in your confidence and beauty.
With proper care and maintenance, your beautiful brows will last for years, allowing you to wake up every morning with perfect brows. Say goodbye to time-consuming brow routines and hello to lasting beauty!

Professional Installation: For semi-permanent options like tape-ins and fusion, it's best to have a professional stylist do the installation.

Gentle Washing: Use sulfate-free, moisturizing shampoos and conditioners.
Avoid Heat Damage: Limit the use of heat styling tools and use a heat protectant when necessary.
Brushing: Use a soft-bristle brush or a loop brush to avoid tangles.
Tips:
Bedtime Care: Tie your hair loose before sleeping to prevent tangling.
FAQ #5: Can I Color and Style Hair Extensions?
Expert Answer: Yes, you can color and style human hair extensions just like your natural hair. However, be cautious with synthetic extensions, as they may not withstand high heat or chemical treatments.
Tips:
Test a Strand: If you plan to color your extensions, test a small strand first to ensure the desired outcome.
Low Heat Styling: If you need to use heat tools, keep the temperature low to prevent damage.
In conclusion, choosing and caring for hair extensions requires careful consideration and maintenance. By following these expert answers and tips, you'll be well on your way to achieving the hair of your dreams. So, embrace your hair extension journey and enjoy the transformation!

How long do powdered brows last?
Two months after the original procedure, you should return for a touch-up.The brows should last between one and three years after that. Do powder brows last longer than microblading? Those with hair who fill in with makeup are the ideal candidates for powdered brows. If you have thinner brows, we can add hair strokes.Microblading usually lasts two to three years while powdered brows last for two to four years. Do powder brows completely go away? Although powder brows are semi-permanent, they are supposed to fade out eventually in some cases. The inner layers of the skin are never shedded like the surface layer, so this can happen if the pigments were inserted too deep into the skin. How much does powder brows cost? Depending on where you are, the price range of powder brows varies. The average cost is between $400 and $800. What is better powder brows or microblading? The result is the most realistic and natural looking. If you are more of a naturalista, microblading is best for you.If you prefer a more defined brow, powder brows are your best bet. What is the latest eyebrow technique? This latest brow grooming procedure allows the brow hairs to be set in an even shape, creating a thicker, fuller feel to the brow.Freudenberg says it's almost like a perm for the brows. Which is better ombre or microblading? What are the main benefits of makeup?Microblading may not work well on oily skinned people, but omb powder brows are great for any skin type.Your eyebrow will look more defined and dramatic.Microbladed brows can last up to 5 years. How do you ombre eyebrows? To start filling in your eyebrow, use a light hand.If you want the end of your brow to be the lightest, build the color up at the middle and ends. For a seamless, ombré brow look, use your fingertips or a small eyeshadow brush to blend out any harsh lines. What is Nano brows? Thin eyebrows fill in for a thicker appearance. The procedure uses a super fine needle to create hair-like tattoo strokes. These strokes look like hair. What are soft powder brows? Similar to powder makeup, powder brows is a semi permanent makeup technique that creates eyebrows with soft powder effect.A permanent makeup device is similar to a tattoo gun and is used for the powder effect. What hurts more powder brows or microblading? Ombré powder brows are less painful due to the way we apply them, which creates less trauma to the skin. The technique of microblading is blading. The latter causes more bleeding by cutting into the skin. What lasts longer microblading or powder? Those with hair who fill in with makeup are the ideal candidates for powdered brows. If you have thinner brows, we can add hair strokes.Microblading usually lasts two to three years while powdered brows last for two to four years. Are skinny eyebrows coming back? Ultra-thin eyebrows are back with a bang after two decades.Younger generations didn't have to endure skinny brows in the 1990s and 2000s, so skinny brows are one of the top beauty trends of 2022. Which eyebrow shape is most attractive? Since you already have the most coveted face shape, a soft brow with a shallow arch is most flattering. What is the newest technique for eyebrows? Also known as "machine hair strokes" and "nano strokes," this newer brow technique adds fullness and definition to your brows using a permanent makeup device and pigment. How long does an ombre last? It takes about four to five months for ombré to last.Don't wash your hair too much and use sulfate-free products to keep your color fresh. If you have blonde hair, you can use a purple shampoo to counteract brassy and yellow tones. What is lip blushing? Lip blushing is a semi-permanent tattoo that can enhance the color and shape of your lips and give the impression of more fullness. You can improve your look by depositing ink into your lips and lip line. The color is subtle. Does tattooing eyebrows stop hair growth? It doesn't seem to have an impact on hair growth.According to the Hair Transplant Institute Miami, microblading won't prevent brow hair loss. What is hair stroke brows? Permanent makeup on the eyebrows is created by drawing the hair-like strokes with a semi-permanent make-up device.Semi-permanent make-up will be deposited into the skin by a very fine needle. The strokes will look like eyebrow hairs. How do you ombré eyebrows? To start filling in your eyebrow, use a light hand.If you want the end of your brow to be the lightest, build the color up at the middle and ends. For a seamless, ombré brow look, use your fingertips or a small eyeshadow brush to blend out any harsh lines. every thing you should know about microblading in Toronto
What is microblading?
Microblading Toronto is a type of eyebrow architecture. It is all about creating the best shape for each face – a totally bespoke approach for each client,' explains Jalaf.
Tumblr media
'The process of microblading Toronto is very precise thanks to the tool that is used which is effectively like a pen with the nib being a sloped blade with 10-12 little needles at the end - needles that don’t penetrate the skin but just delicately scratch the surface, much like a paper cut. ‘The needle very finely implants featherweight strokes with a medical grade pigment on the epidermis layer for the skin, creating fine, realistic and natural hair strokes.'
How is microblading Toronto eyebrows different to having your brows tattooed?
'Microblading, unlike tattooing, is not in the deep layer of skin, but more on the surface. This is also not permanent, and the color fades within 18 months. 'The hair strokes are far more natural and finer than any tattoo, as a handheld needle/blade is used – there is no electrical gadget in Canada permanent makeup that permeates deep in this technique. There is therefore more of a scratching noise, rather than a buzz of a tattoo gun which pierces the skin so deeply.'
Tumblr media
What is micro shading and how is it different to microblading?
Yes, the names might sound confusingly similar but microblading Toronto and micro shading are totally different, we promise.
Both forms of semi-permanent make-up for your eyebrows, they have a few subtle but important differences. Compared to microblading's super precise, individual hair look, micro shading has a much softer finish. Think of it like using a brow pencil compared to a brow powder or pomade. Where microblading Toronto tattoos hair-like strokes in your existing brows, micro shading tattoos tiny dots along your brows for a less defined finish In Canada permanent makeup.
Can you be allergic to microblading?
'There are people who are sensitive and allergic to some pigments, but in my experience, this is extremely rare. I will always perform a patch or scratch test to check you are not allergic prior to the treatment Canada permanent makeup.
How much does microblading Toronto cost?
'A Suman microblading Toronto treatment costs £500. This includes a consultation, the initial treatment as well as a top up treatment after 6-8 weeks.'
What actually happens when you get your eyebrows microblade?
1. 'I shape the brow area by threading the hairs, cleaning up the area and preparing it for the treatment.'
2. Numbing – this takes 40mins using a topical ointment. While this is working its numbing magic, I'll show the client color swatches and discuss together the best shade for their desired look.'
3. 10 minutes before the numbing cream has got to a stage of working, I'll use my tools to begin measuring the area around the brows, taking into account face shape, symmetry, facial features etc.
Tumblr media
4. Then I begin the needling process - gently implanting the pigment via featherweight strokes. Each stroke is a superficial line in the skin where the color pigment seeps in and settles then. If there is any discomfort at this stage, we add another quick layer of numbing cream to the area which will become effective after 5 minutes in Canada permanent makeup.
5. I add on a final layer of pigment that stays on for 5mins, clean the area and et voila – beautiful brows!'
6. 'In 6-8 weeks there's a top-up session to fill in any gaps where the pigment hasn't taken or healed properly.'
Why is there a top up microblading Toronto session and when does this happen?
'The top up session happens after 6-8 weeks. This is the time where I can assess the first steps, and add in any further strokes and add a darker pigment if preferred.'
What happens in the mean time?
Tumblr media
'You'll need to follow the aftercare instructions (see below) and avoid any picking or scratching. Your eyebrows will start to heal over, much like a tattoo, which might cause irritation but is totally normal. In the next ten days or so your eyebrows will change color, might become flaky and look like they've faded but this is totally normal. They'll reveal their final color and shape after around 30 days. This can then be topped up at the second session.'
How long does microblading Toronto last?
Microblading Toronto lasts anything between 12-18 months, but the longevity of the pigment will depend on your skin type. People with slightly more oily skin will tend to last around the 12-month mark before needing a top up, but those with normal skin can last up to 18 months. Your brows will eventually fade away if you don’t continue with top ups every 18 months or so. There is no scaring or discoloration with the pigments used, so you wouldn’t know if you left them to fade out Canada permanent makeup.
Does microblading hurt?
It doesn’t hurt as such; it is more a sensation. The process itself is not painful thanks to the numbing ointment that is applied. It's sometimes the sound of the blade which people find worse – a small scratching sound. The whole process is very quick – it's actually the numbing which takes most of the time (50mins), you aren’t under the needle for the whole 2 hours.
Can microblade eyebrows be undone/removed?
'Yes – the pigment used leaves no scarring or discoloration, and I can use a salt/saline solution to remove microblade brows.
'It is very important to know and understand that brows will be up to 40% darker in shade for the first 7-10 days during the healing process where scabs can form and flake off.
Tumblr media
'Clients can sometimes leave the studio, and two days later be terrified that their brows are too dark, but please be patient – as this is totally normal! After 7-10 days, you will begin to see the final coloring.'

Brand Treatment and Surving a Beatdown with Spine Intact
Question: I have a character who gets beat up by a group of people and branded on her cheek. I'd like there to be very little risk of spine injury and for another character to be able to treat her semi-effectively. There is healing magic in the world and it is entirely stat based, not experience based. Thoughts?
We'll focus on the two parts of this questions separately. First, how can you beat someone without risking spine injury? And second, how should you DIY a brand treatment? (Also, and hopefully this goes without saying, but you should not DIY a brand treatment IRL).
Spine Safe Beatdown
It is impossible to guarantee 100% that your injured character (IC) has no spine injury. That said, it's possible to reduce the risk.
Why do spines break?
Like any bone, spines can break. Unlike any random bone, vertebrae have a spinal cord inside them, and the shards of a broken spinal bone can sever the spinal cord, causing numbness, tingling, and paralysis. Spinal column injuries refer to broken bones only. Spinal cord injuries refer to a damaged cord, which almost always comes with at least one broken vertebra too (sort of a two for one injury deal).
Spines are finicky beasts, but they especially dislike the following types of force:
Compression up and down the spine (think like an accordion)
Twisty motions (like cracking your back, but worse)
Bending side to side (t-posing and then swaying from side to side)
Rough head jostling
Assymetric force from the front or back, which could cause the spine to twist
(For more fun breaking bones, see: Can Your Character Survive... Broken Bones?).
Protecting the Spine
So... basically any impact on the head or torso has the possibility to make the spine unhappy. Mod N suggests two equally strong goons punch both shoulders simultaneously and with the same amount of force. Since it's unlikely any goons are feeling that considerate, you can reduce the likelihood of a spine injury if you:
Have your character sitting on a chair with a back or lying down as opposed to standing during their beating. This gives the spine less room to get up to any funny business
Avoid too many blows to the head and neck. In movies, beatings seem to always involve grabbing the poor victim by the hair and then laying them out with a punch. This seems like a great way to get permanent spine and/or brain damage (Hey, Can Your Character Surive... Altered Mental Status, anyone?)
Avoid grabbing and pulling on the body by the head (I haven't been in too many beatdowns myself so I'm not sure if this is a frequent occurance)
Avoid any direct blows to the spine, avoid compression down the spine, avoid too much twisty spine motions
Ruling out Spinal Injuries
While it's best practice to assume spine injury in any trauma case until definitively proven otherwise, there are ways to semi-rule out any serious spine injury before you move someone, including:
Clearing the spine (the caretaking character doesn't appear to have medical experience, so this seems unlikely, but perhaps they could cast Heal Spine before further treatment)
Check if IC reports any unusual numbness or tingling
Check the spine itself for any obvious bruising, bleeding, tenderness, etc.
Ask IC if their spine feels okay (spinal cord injured patients often report that they know something is very wrong even if they don't know what)
If the caretaker has no way to care for a spine injury, it might be enough for them to simply think about the possibility. Or, if they don't have any medical experience at all, they might just jump to treating the more obvious injuries, in this case, the brand.
DIY Brand Treatment
My first thought when I hear about a cheek brand is, yikes and my second is, why doesn't that brand go through the cheek? That said, it appears cheek brands actually did happen historically (drawn images but no pictures of branding in the link).
Appearance
Brands are a type of third degree burn, which means the third layer of skin is affected, as well as the first two (no pictures in the link). The tool used to make the brand will affect the appearance.
Here's a video of someone getting a brand with a precision implement. (This is a dead dove, don't eat situation. Apparently, human branding is a squick of mine. I'm learning so much writing up this response!). In this video, because the hot tool is so tiny, the wound itself mostly looks red and swollen, with a few black lines where the actual brand occured.
I'm assuming when you say brand, you mean something like this:
Tumblr media
Brand, from here,
Here's a healing progression—one week, one month, and three months—of a more applicable brand (pictures right at the top of the page after following the link). And here's what NOLS has to say about it: "The skin appears leathery, charred, pearl gray, and dry, or possibly white and firm. The area is sunken and has a burned odor." (I mostly just like "pearl gray" as a color name).
In that case, I think a blackened and charred shape of the brand, surrounded by perhaps a thin layer of white but mostly red and swollen skin is your best bet.
Reaction
Counterintuitively, the branded skin itself might not hurt because the brand has burned away all the nerve endings. I think it's safe to say the area around the brand probably hurts like hell (on account of this area is probably second- and first-degree burns).
There's also the added psychological complication of this brand being on the face, where humans are more psychologically vulnerable to injury. IC is probably not too happy right now, and it will likely be obvious her whole life that someone branded her there, though the shape itself may become obscured by scar tissue.
Here's the summary of a meta-analysis that looked at rates of anxiety and depression in people with visible differences (including facial scarring). It might be a worthwhile read, as might the study itself. Changing Faces is a charity dedicated to helping people with facial injuries.
Brand Concerns
What are we worried about when it comes to branding?
Airway: this is a face brand. Traumatic injuries on the face and neck could potentially interfere with IC's ability to breathe. Needless to say, that would be bad
Infection: skin is in charge of keeping foreign contaminants out of the body. If the skin is burned through, bacteria and viruses have a much easier time getting to the blood
Volume shock: a big enough brand can kill someone outright, though perhaps then it's less accurate to describe it as a brand and more accurate to say someone was burnt to death
Hypothermia: skin also keeps the cold out. In non-balmy environments, even small burns can put you at a high risk for hypothermia
Psychological trauma: for what I hope are obvious reasons
Cheeks aren't big enough for me to be too worried about volume shock or hypothermia, though your caretaker should monitor IC for signs of shock or uncontrollable shivering.
Brand Treatment
The first step with any burn is putting the fire out. Mod N likes to remind me that EMT training says you need to wash out any burn with cold water for 5 to 10 minutes, just in case it is still smoldering. Ideally, this is done with clean water, not ice cold. Do not put ice on the brand!
Next, to prevent infection, clean the wound of any outside debris (dirt, clothes, etc.) and apply some sort of antibacterial salve. If no salve is available, hopefully your caretaker has a Spell of No Bacteria up their sleeves.
Now to dress the wound. If it's relatively small (less than 3 palms of surface area), use a wet to dry dressing. That is, put wet gauze directly on the surface of the wound. Then dry gauze or a dry bandage as the next layer up. Change it once a day for cleaning. If your world has showers, don't put the wound directly under a shower head for at least a week.
Cleaning in this case means both washing the wound and cutting away dead skin. This is usually a dreadful experience for all involved. I have only treated moulaged wounds with a fake victim who screamed far too convincingly and it was miserable.
Inhalation Burns
Observative readers will note I mentioned airway concerns but didn't addressed them. Gold star for that reader. The caretaker should monitor IC's airway as standard practice but they also need to think about inhalation burns, which are burns to the inside of the mouth, throat, and lungs. These are always considered life threatening.
Inhalation burns are caused by breathing in hot materials, such as smoke. In the cosemetic branding video I recommended above, the brander himself wore a gas mask, presumably at least in part to keep from breathing in hot air. With the brand so close to IC's mouth and nose, inhalation burns are a distinct possibility.
Inhalation burns are treated in the wilderness with a swift evacuation. Your caretaker's best bet is going to be to either rule out inhalation burns or treat them magically. Depending on technology levels, a hospital or doctor may be able to help IC too.
Conclusion
IC is going through a bit of a rough patch, between the beatdown and the brand, but it's completely possible for them not to have any life-threatening injuries, especially if the goons avoid their spine during the assault and their brand is small and doesn't involve inhalation burns.

What I’d Want Out Of Sims 5
So, thanks to renovation madness kicking in, I only had one mini-update for you guys regarding what’s actually happening in my Sims game. To fill the gap, I figured I’d give you all a quick list of what I’d like to see out of a semi-idealized Sims 5 (I say “semi-” because these ideas are made with the assumption that this is a game company looking for profit and thus paid expansions will always be a thing). I’m doing my best to keep this simple, as I could go on for probably literal HOURS on the subject of what I’d like to see done, but this should sum up what I think would be best:
1. CAS -- I think most of us would agree that Sims 4 CAS is actually pretty good, and that being able to make changes directly on the Sim is a great development. Where it falls a little short is in the personality section. To whit, I propose the following:
-->Bring back favorites from The Sims 3 (like favorite food, color, etc)
-->Bring back turn-ons and turn-offs from The Sims 2 (like a Sim likes blondes and glasses, but dislikes tattoos)
-->Rejigger how many traits each age group gets (I was thinking that toddlers should keep their one toddler-specific trait; children get two traits but one HAS to be picked from a short list of traits that fit with the toddler trait they got; teenagers get three, possibly four traits, plus the bonus trait from their aspiration category; young adults and up get five traits plus the bonus trait. I’ve also seen people suggest implementing “fatal flaws” like the ones from The Sims Medieval, or possibly going back to the point-build system of the first two games. Maybe you could even combine traits with the point build?)
-->Bring back hair physics because come on (I like the more cartoony style but come on)
-->Keep the CAS Story randomizer but unlock the bonuses so players can put them on Sims manually at will (like I would like to)
2. Aspirations -- I actually like that Sims can switch between lots of different aspirations between categories, but I do agree that it can make Sims feel less special, and I do kind of miss the aspiration system as it was in Sims 2. Therefore I propose the following compromise: You still have multiple aspirations grouped under larger categories, but your Sim can only choose two categories to focus on (like, they can be a Knowledge Sim with a lesser focus on Family, or a Romance Sim with a lesser focus on Popularity). They can do all the aspirations in those categories, but if they want access to more categories, they have to earn unlocking them through some sort of challenge. (Or have their players cheat them in.)
Also, bring back wants and fears, lifetime wants, the aspiration meters, aspirational breakdowns, and the silly items you could unlock with aspiration points (the potions are fine, but I kinda want my zappy needs-filling machine back). Sims 2 really had it going on!
3. Worlds -- Okay, I LOVE that all worlds are available in a single save file now, and that my Sims can visit all of them. If we can keep that and just reduce/speed up the loading screens. . . I personally can live without a proper “open world” a la Sims 3, but being able to visit my next-door neighbor without a loading screen would be nice.
4. Expansions -- The Seasons, University, and Pets expansions should always be the FIRST expansions worked on, as they’re some of the most popular and really change how the game is played (particularly Seasons!) For some specific thoughts on each:
-->Seasons should have the calendar and holidays from the Sims 4 version, the seasonal festivals from the Sims 3 version, and the relationship/skill boosts from the Sims 2 version. Also snow should have depth.
-->Pets should include cats, dogs, horses, and a variety of small pets (birds, lizards, rodents, rabbits) -- and if you MUST give the small pets their own separate thing, DON’T TIE MOST OF THE CONTENT TO THE MAIN PETS PACK. Nobody wants My First Pet Stuff again.
-->University should probably follow the Sims 4 model, but maybe add in the occasional active class, and make the University world a bit bigger -- or maybe add in more worlds with a university? Hmmm. . .
Related to that point, I would also suggest that vacations in SimWorld be revamped so you can just vacation in specific spots in other residential worlds, as well as having specific outside places to go (as I like Sulani, but I’d like it more if it was a vacation destination).
5. Activities -- Starting from the top:
-->Just put in cars from the start, or fit them into an early expansion, as people want them no matter what
-->All Sims of all ages should have a variety of hobbies in the mode of The Sims 2 Freetime, with magazines, private clubs, and whatnot
-->Children in particular should have child-friendly objects like the muffin oven and the lemonade stand from Sims 2 to give them more to do
-->Bring private school and the admission challenge with the headmaster back from Sims 2
-->Give all careers “active” days where you can join the Sim for a special event (like a musician Sim doing a big concert) -- I actually think this makes more sense than having plain old “active” careers, as I’ve discovered that going with your Sim to work all the time can get -- repetitive. You could also do this with school days for littler Sims.
-->Also, personal pet peeve, but Musician should have its own career path where you can choose to be a rock star or a classical musician -- Entertainer then can focus on Stand-up Comedy or something else.
-->Related, Woodworking should be its own skill and not lumped under Handiness.
-->We have responded surprisingly well to laundry, so maybe include more chores linked to specific items? My specific ideas are for a vacuum cleaner that makes floors dirty, and a lawnmower that makes grass sprout and weeds appears in the lawn.
7. Occults -- Okay, this one is probably gonna be at least a little controversial, but I’ll put it out there:
I firmly believe every occult life state should have its own game pack where it can be explored to the fullest.
Reason? Sims 4 Vampires. It is my absolute favorite take on vampires in the whole series and I feel like all occults should follow its model. Imagine if we’d gotten a mermaid game pack where they had an underwater world! Or an alien pack with even more to Sixam! Realm of Magic comes close, but I feel like the Magical Realm should really be bigger. . .also Spellcasters should have permanent weaknesses, not just curses one can dispel with the right potion or spell; potions should need more ingredients and be harder; and familiars should be treated as a special category of small pet. (Let me interact with the cute dragon, damn it!)
Also, children should be allowed to participate in occult life states, even if their powers are a little different -- I mean, come on, Sims 1 had a whole set of kid spells for your junior spellcaster! How is it that’s the only game where that’s happened?!
Aaaand okay, I am indeed starting to ramble. Yes, this is what happens when I try to keep it SHORT on this subject. *facepalm* I promise to go back to picture updates next week!

RotTMNT/Baron Jitsu Fanfiction: Dating... With Children - Chapter Two
(Also on AO3 if you want to leave a comment or kudos)
Plot:  Benjamin Draxum hardly considered himself a man of high social standing. Not because he was uncouth or unworthy of it, mind you, but simply because he didn't have much of a social life. Hard to have one when he usually spent his days at work, cooped up in a lab for so long that he often had his lunches in there, and his nights at home reading or doing research for more personal projects. But perhaps meeting handsome semi-retired movie star - as well as his four young sons - could change all that...
((Chapter two, ya’ll! Thank you to everyone for their support on this story so far, and I hope you enjoy the next chapter! ^v^))
“...What’ve you got there, baby?”
Mikey smiled, and held the drawing - consisting of crayon, marker AND a bit of paint - up for his father to see. “Lots of drawings!” he replied, “Didn't wanna choose one, so I made ‘em all! Like this guy here is a super cool dragon, an’ here's his friend who’s a turtle that can skateboard, and this is a bee that's always makin’ up words and making people spell them!”
“Heh, I'm sure I know what that's inspired from,” Lou chuckled, remembering how Raph shared that his class was having a spelling bee a couple weeks ago. He sat and listened to his youngest explain each doodle, nodding and making quick comments of his own as he did so.
“And that's all I really have so far,” Mikey finished, setting the paper down, “but I think I wanna try to add a few more drawings. Maybe some stickers too, THEN it'll be perfect!”
“Alright,” Lou nodded, “But when you're finished, would you please clean off the table? Remember, we have company coming over tonight.”
“Oh yeah! Don't worry, Papa, I will!”
“Good,” Lou smiled, ruffling his curly hair and making the boy giggle, “Thank you.”
“I'm glad Dr. Draxum is coming over,” Donnie spoke up from the beanbag, looking up from his textbook, “I wanna talk to him more about science stuff. And look!” He held up his book - ‘The Building-Blocks of Life’. “I'm reading up on genetics too! And I'm pretty sure I’ll be about as smart as him on it by the time I'm finished.”
Amused, Lou raised an eyebrow. “I didn't realize they were teaching genetics in the first grade.”
“They aren't. I finished my work early and got to go to the library again.” “Ah.” Lou made another mental tally in his head. The school hadn't said anything yet, but if this kept up, he'd have to go there himself and look into possibly moving Donatello up to Raph’s grade. “Can you believe that some kids aren't even interested in looking at the big kid section of books? Or at the non-fiction section? Those are the best sections!”
“Heh, no, I can't. But then it's a good thing that you can appreciate them.” He began to stand up, but stopped when his ears picked up on something. Some quiet whispers, a couple soft footsteps… The martial artist smirked, and prepared himself.
After a couple seconds, he felt something heavy run into him, slamming him to the carpeted floor. He let out an “OOF!”, unable to help himself, while giggles filled his ears. “I got you, Pop!” Raph grinned, “You're pinned!”
“Oh, are you sure?” Lou asked, “because I think-” He twisted his body quickly, knocking a surprised Raphael off before scooping him up into his arms, making the boy squeal. “That I have YOU!” Raph squirmed in his father’s grip while Lou gave him a couple quick noogies before kissing him on the top of his head.
“Daaaad!” Raph groaned, sticking his tongue out. Lou just laughed, letting the boy go.
“Told ya you couldn't beat him, Raphie,” Leo said, grinning at the whole scene as he sat on the arm of his pop’s chair, growing legs swinging, “He's like, the best fighter in the whole world!”
“Yeah well, I still pinned you for a second, right Pop?”
“Mm-hm,” Lou nodded, “Though next time, make sure to actually pin them once you have them on the floor. Don't just sit on them, but try putting your hands and weight on their shoulders. Makes it harder for them to move, slows them down some.” After a moment, he added “But, maybe don't try to tackle our guest tonight, hm?”
“Heh, I won't.” “Good. Now why don't you and your brother wash up?” Raph and Leo both glanced down at their grass and dirt covered limbs, grimaced at them and dashed out of the room.
Still chuckling a bit to himself, Lou picked himself off the floor and headed back into the kitchen. He had already started prepping a couple dishes, but he still had plenty left to do for their meal. His smile softened a bit as he thought about their guest…
It had taken five days for Draxum to call him. In that time, Lou had tried looking him up online. Draxum’s social media was pretty standard, nothing offensive or red-flag raising but nothing too interesting either. The only other piece of the man online was a brief biography on his lab’s research site along with a photo - where he had a very serious and professional expression on his face. A far cry from the fairly casual man he had met at the art gallery.
When he did finally call, it had been late at night, just after he'd put the boys to bed and right before heading to bed himself. Lou had wondered if perhaps this was planned, as a sort of “welp, I tried calling but there was no answer, oh well” type of thing. But Lou had answered, and much to his (and certainly to Draxum’s) surprise, they had ended up talking for a couple hours.
The conversation had started out pretty slow and standard. Lou asked how his day at work was, and Draxum asked how he and the boys were doing. After a while though, things became a little more natural, and their conversation almost became more of a banter. They’d go back and forth, discussing their favorite forms of entertainment, hobbies they enjoyed, and even sharing a couple personal anecdotes. And after all that, there was no way Lou wasn't going to end the call by inviting him over.
Draxum told him he'd have to check his schedule. It only took until the next morning for Draxum to text, letting him know that he would be free the following weekend. Again, Lou couldn't help but wonder if Draxum actually had to check his schedule or if he just didn't want to appear to eager, but said nothing. Instead, he simply gave him a date, time and his home address, and let him know that he was looking forward to it.
Lou had to admit, Draxum wasn't usually his type, but he was still unique enough to catch the ex-movie star’s interest. After all, how many buff science-type bookworms did one meet in their life? Draxum was certainly intelligent, and had a bit of a dry wit but never seemed like a snob. He was a bit stiff but not boring, spoke his mind and, if Lou was really being honest, was so hot. (Again, buff bookworms. Who knew?) Plus, his kids really seemed to like him too. In Lou’s opinion, that last bit was the most important one of all. So, with all that in mind, Lou just figured: “Eh, why not?”
It was funny how often that phrase came up during the big decisions in his life - like when he had decided that he wanted to try being a father when almost everything else in his life seemed hollow, and ended up adopting four kids instead of just one.
---------
Draxum looked at his watch. 5:17. A bit early but, wasn't that better than being late? Really, it was a good sign he was there at all, given that he was still a bit surprised at himself for even accepting the invite. ...Not that spending more time with Lou was necessarily a bad idea...
He then glanced up at the house he was now in front of. Having never actually been invited to a celebrity’s home before, he hadn't quite been sure what to expect. But a medium sized, cozy looking and slightly run-down home in Brooklyn certainly was a bit of a surprise. Maybe making action movies didn't pay as well as Draxum thought.
Still, he kept these comments to himself as he went up the walkway that was littered with chalk drawings and up to the door, knocking twice. It took a couple moments for someone - one of the boys, the one with light patches of skin around his eyes who was wearing a blue tee - to open the door. “You know the password?” He asked.
Draxum’s expression twisted slightly in annoyance, but he kept his cool. “Open says me?” He guessed.
“Mm nnnnope, sorry.” With that, the door was slammed in his face. From the other side, he could hear more young voices, scolding and lightly arguing with each other. The door opened again, and one boy had become four. “I was just joking!” Leo insisted while Donnie continued to glare.
“Hi, Dr. Draxum!” Mikey greeted with a wave.
“Sorry about my dumb brother-” “Hey!” “You can come on in,” Raph added.
Draxum nodded. “Thank you,” he said, moving his arm a bit so he could reveal more of the small box he had been carrying. “If you hadn't let me in when you did, this probably would have melted.”
Leo’s eyes widened. “Wait, you brought cake?! Well you should’a said so!”
With a ghost of a smile on his face, Draxum walked inside. The living room to the Jitsu home was inviting and very much in-use, but not the cluttered and messy space that Draxum had been worried it might have been. There was a reclining chair, a love seat, two kid-sized beanbags, a coffee table with several colorful marks now permanently on it, and a flat screen tv that was playing some cartoon. There were a couple toys on the floor, though not enough that Draxum had to worry about tripping over anything, as well as a few framed pictures on the wall. One of Lou at what looked like some award ceremony, one of him with a Chinese woman (ex wife, perhaps?) and of course, one of him with his children that looked like it was taken just a couple years ago.
“Hey, Doc!” a voice called from the kitchen, bringing Draxum out of his thoughts, “How’s it going? You find the place alright?”
“Yes, there's this wonderful thing called a gps that really helps,” Draxum dryly replied.
Lou chuckled, smiling at him over his shoulder, and blinking when he saw the ice cream cake in the taller man’s hands. From the look of the packaging, he could guess that it came from a pretty high end bakery. “Oh, you didn't have to bring anything.”
“Well, you said you were making supper, I figured the least I could do was bring dessert,” Draxum told him, “Should I just put this in the fridge, then?”
“Yeah, go right ahead.” Draxum did, and then sat down at the table. He noticed that Lou was just in a loose fitting, pale yellow tee and some jeans. Immediately, he felt overdressed, even if he himself was just in a button-up long sleeve shirt and some dark khakis. Still, Draxum tried to look as ‘casual’ as possible, but clearly it wasn't working by the way Lou kept glancing back at him from the kitchen counter
“I'm glad you could make it, by the way,” Lou spoke up, trying to break the ice a little, “I'm sure you get pretty busy, being a scientist and all.”
“Actually, unless I hit a big breakthrough or doing work on a time sensitive project, it's pretty much a nine-to-five job most of the time,” Draxum replied, “The work stays steady, at least.” Lou nodded, and went back to his cooking. Not wanting to risk falling into uncomfortable silence once again, Draxum decided to ask something that had been on his mind since they first met. “And what do you do for a living these days, given that your last film was in, what, the early 2000s?”
Rather than being offended or caught off guard, Lou just smirked. “...You sure you're not a fan of my films?”
“Definitely not,” Draxum retorted so quickly that it made Lou laugh
“If you say so! Anyway, yeah, that was about the time I moved from LA to here. I was smart about my last few paychecks, so I pretty much live off my savings.
Draxum blinked. “...Seriously?”
“Seriously. Though, I know I can't use ALL of it - I know at least one of my kids is going to be going to college - so I do odd jobs when I need to. Make appearances at conventions, do a quick commercial or two sometimes- heh, last year I was even paid to play on a gameshow. A stagehand kept an eye on the boys as they watched me play from the audience, I won some money for a charity, and then the next day I took them to Disneyland. Used most of that paycheck to do it, too. So, I guess you could call me a bit of a sellout.” Though judging by his tone, Lou didn't seem bothered by this at all.
“I don't think anyone could really blame you for taking less time consuming work,” Draxum offered, “Still, do you ever miss making movies, as cheesy as they are?” Or rather, were.
Lou thought for a moment as he tossed the last few ingredients into the frying pan. “...Yeah,” he admitted, “I do. Though, there are plenty of things about the industry that I definitely don't miss, and besides…” His smile softened a bit. “I've got plenty of other things to occupy my time.”
Suddenly, there was a shout. Turning in surprise, Draxum looked through the doorway and watched as Donnie tackled a laughing Leon to the floor. “...Speaking of which, do you know that your kids are tackling each other?”
“Oh yeah, they do that sometimes,” Lou nodded, not even moving from the counter, “Boys will be boys and all that. They're going to roughhouse no matter what I say, and as long as they follow the rules, I usually don't need to step in.”
“Rules?”
Setting down his stirring spoon, Lou counted them off his fingers. “No holding anyone down for more than a couple seconds, no using force to get someone to play what you want to play, if someone says they don't want to wrestle then just leave them be, and no making anyone cry. They're good boys, so that last one is usually punishment enough when they accidentally break it.”
“Ah, I see,” Draxum nodded. Well, that was one way to teach kids how to control their strength and think about their actions. Still, he wondered how Lou would go about things once his sons got a little older and possibly became interested in following in their father’s martial arts footsteps.
It didn't take much longer for their supper to be finished. The kids came to the table without even needing to be called, smelling the food and eager to eat as well as being excited to talk with their guest again. While Raph and Leo told Lou all about the latest exciting climax in their cartoon, Mikey shared one of his drawings with Draxum, who could only stare at it.
“It's, uh…” He tilted his head a bit, staring at the mess of bright colors and scribbles. What on earth was it supposed to be? A natural disaster mixed with a rainbow? “...Very nice, yes.
Mikey beamed. “Really?! Which one is your favorite?”
Shoot, there was more than one drawing there? Well, that at least explained why everything was so cluttered. “Er, well…” He focused a little more on the drawing, and try to find anything that resembled something other than a blob or a tumbleweed to him. “I like this… Cat. Yes, this cat over in the corner, with the… Ice cream on it?”
Mikey looked back at the paper. “That's not a cat.” “Oh, sor-” “But that's a good idea!” The boy gave Draxum another bright smile. “I’ll draw you a kitty with ice cream later, kay?”
“Heh, very well,” Draxum nodded, relieved that he didn't offend the young artist.
“-And then, they used the magic sword, and blasted the bad guys right into the sky!” “Yeah, and the main hero guy said the BEST thing afterwards! He's soooo cool!”
“Well of course, he IS the main hero, after all” Lou chuckled, setting the last of the dishes down at the table, “Donnie, please put your book away now.”
Donnie frowned, reluctantly closing his half-finished textbook. “Fine…” As he placed it back into his ever-present backpack, Draxum managed to catch the book’s title.
“Genetics, hm?” He asked, smiling a bit. Perhaps the boy had been inspired. “Enjoying it so far?” Donnie nodded, keeping his eyes on the silverware in front of him.
The meal was fairly simple. A baked fish as the main course, with fried rice and an easy-to-make salad as the sides. Still, what it lacked in uniqueness, it more than made up for in good flavor. “I'm usually not much of a fish eater, but this is quite good,” Draxum commented, after only a couple bites.
“Mm-hm,” Lou smirked, “I'm not just a handsome actor-martial artist, after all. I know how to cook.” Draxum just rolled his eyes, mildly amused at his date’s cockiness.
“You should try eatin’ the fish and the rice at the same time,” Raph advised, “They go really good together!”
Draxum was the type to keep his food, as well as the tastes and textures, separate while he ate, but he did try the combination once just to appease the eldest Jitsu child. As he continued to eat, Draxum kept glancing over at Donatello out of the corner of his eye. The boy in purple nibbled and picked at his food, fidgeting a bit and staying silent. Certainly different from the eager and inquisitive boy Donnie had introduced himself as, so what had brought on this sudden shyness?
Was it something Draxum had said? He couldn't think of anything that could've been taken as discouragement or dismissal. So, maybe Donnie just didn't care for his field of science but didn't want to offend Draxum by saying so? No, that didn't seem right either. So then, what-?
He noticed Leo leaning over, whispering to Donnie for a moment before being nudged away. Rather than being annoyed, Leo just looked a bit concerned while his twin just looked… Embarrassed? An epiphany went off in Draxum’s mind. So THAT was why Donnie wasn't talking to him.
“Donnie,” he began, getting the boy’s attention, “I was wondering if you had any thoughts on your research so far?”
Donnie continued to squirm, squeezing his fists in his lap. “I-I mean, I'm still reading through the book so, so I'm not really an expert on it yet.” Truth be told, while he liked all sciences, he had really taken a shine to robotics and technology the most. “But talking to you ‘bout it before gave me a good head start, and I know the basics of it already and, um…”
“Yes…?”
“A-And, I…” Donnie scowled before suddenly shouting, “I have a scientific theory! A-About genetics, I mean.”
Draxum nodded, keeping composed (because, wow, even he could admit this was kind of adorable). “May I hear about it?” he asked, making sure to keep his voice neutral to avoid sounding patronizing, knowing that a child as smart as Donnie would definitely notice.
“Well… O-Our genes are inherited from our birth parents, right? So we only have a possibility of getting what they, or the rest of their people in their family, had. But, maybe there could be a way to, um, switch out genes somehow? Maybe with gene samples from other people, or with genes made by scientists, and then those new cells could develop and make whatever kind of person with whatever features they wanted.” Donnie winced a bit once he was finished, and waited for Draxum’s reaction.
The scientist hummed. “Well, that is a sound theory. Perhaps a bit difficult to test at the moment, but I can understand the basis of it, as well as see how it could be possible one day.” Donnie’s eyes widened. He stared back at Draxum, and began to grin widely, as if he had just received the best compliment ever. Draxum held back a chuckle. “Would you like to discuss this theory further?” “Yeah!”
Unsurprisingly, once Draxum began sharing the concept of gene mutation, the conversation devolved into a mix of scientific theorizing with some sci-if-esque levels of speculation (Donnie) and a debate over which animal features and mutations would be best to mix with people (the rest of the boys). Still, the discussion was no less enjoyable, to the kids or to Draxum.
And as for Lou, he just watched and listened, a warm smile on his face. This may have been their first shared meal together, but Draxum already felt like a seat at the table that had always somehow been there
----------
“...I think I just made it impossible for your kids to go to sleep tonight.”
“Eh, they've had worse sugar rushes. Trust me, this is nothing. Besides, they'll burn it all up soon enough.”
The remaining slices of the ice cream cake had already been placed back into the fridge, and because it was still somewhat light out, the boys had been allowed to go play outside for a while. So, they raced out the door, leaving their father and his date to watch by the window while they started playing what Draxum could only describe as a mixed up version of soccer and cricket.
He wasn't even sure if they were keeping score. All he could tell was that the game involved running all around the small yard, using foam swords and hockey sticks to hit a ball as well as kicking it with their feet. Either way, they all seemed to enjoy it, with Raph happily teaming up with Mikey and offering him a piggyback ride whenever his youngest brother struggled to keep up.
Draxum hummed, taking a small sip from the tea Lou had made for him before setting the cup back down. “Your kids are definitely unique.”
“Heh, they sure are,” Lou agreed, “They really are good boys… And they really like you, you know.”
Draxum nodded. It was still sort of hard to believe himself, given how he often thought of children as nothing more than tiny annoyances. Yes, Lou’s kids were loud, and strange, and still a tiny bit annoying. But they were also clever and endearing, and even a little cute. So, he had no real problems with them liking him, or with liking them in return.
“...And,” Lou began, taking a step closer, suddenly making Draxum very aware of his presence, “I really like you too.”
“I-...” That was all Draxum could get out as he turned from the window, looking Lou directly in the eyes now. The handsome (‘ugh, why did he have to be so handsome,’ Draxum thought to himself, knowing this would all be so much easier if he wasn't) man stared back at him, lips curled into an honest smile. No cockiness or playing up his ego, Lou simply wanted him to know how he felt.
“And I mean it too. And uh, heh, no pressure or anything but… I hope the feeling’s mutual.” Draxum didn't say anything, but he didn't look away either. Lou took another slow step forward. Close enough together to do so now, Draxum dared himself to take his hands.
“I think… That's a possibility,” Draxum told him quietly, finally finding the words to reply.
Lou smiled, letting out a soft chuckle that made Draxum’s heart leap a bit. “Good to know…” They were closer now, enough for Draxum to see himself in Lou’s glasses. He told himself that he wasn't the kind of man to kiss on the first date, but Lou was making it SO tempting!
Their faces were getting closer, with Draxum’s own feeling much too warm. He placed his hands on the shorter man’s chest… And gently pushed him away.
The ex-action star blinked, the intimate mood gone in an instant, suddenly leaving him feeling cold. Still, despite his disappointment, Lou backed away.
“...It’s getting late,” Draxum stated, “I should probably get going.” He didn't waste time moving past Lou, now standing in the doorway between the kitchen and living room.
Lou nodded. “Right, of course. Well, thanks again for coming over. I had a nice-”
“I’m-” Draxum suddenly began to say, still refusing to look back at him, “I’m… Available next weekend, as well. So, perhaps you could come over to my place and we could have dinner there.” He paused for a moment before adding, “Just the two of us. It, it's the least I could do, cooking for you in return.”
“...” Lou’s grin returned. So there WAS going to be a next time! “Yeah, that sounds great! Just text me a time and your address and I’ll be there!”
Draxum nodded. “I will.”
“Heh, I’ll be looking forward to our next appointment, Dr. Draxum.”
Even with the light blush still in his cheeks, Draxum turned back around halfway, scoffing at him. “You don't have to keep calling me that. I have a first name, I won't be offended if you use it.”
Despite his internet search on the man, Lou continued to be coy. “You never told me it, Dr. Tall, Dark and Handsome.”
His date rolled his eyes, sighing slightly. He was tall, definitely, but he wasn't anywhere near dark. His skin just barely had a tan! “It's Benjamin. Benjamin Draxum.”
“Ah. Well, Ben, I’ll see you next week.” Draxum nodded, hesitating for only a moment before moving once more. Lou followed him to the front door, and they each gave a quick good night before Draxum left.
“Heh, a second date,” Lou told himself, still grinning about it, “How about that?” With his steps light and earlier disappointment being unable to touch his now sky-high mood, Lou went into his backyard and began trying to wrangle up his kids and get them back inside for pajamas and teeth brushing.
