Loving the delicious Chenford promo for the new season! <3 Although part of me hopes they can maintain the angst a little longer, so the payoff is insane. The tease scene actually reminds me of my fanfict, "Total eclipse of the heart" when Lucy and Tim have a moment of weakness the night Lucy has to crash at Tim's house and they hook up, and then the next morning Lucy freaks out and sneaks out.

Here is my recap of the Run It Back (Bad Reputation) episode of the podcast.

Kevin and Jenna were dreading this rewatch. Someone screened this episode for just the cast in the editing bay. Everyone was jarred by it.

Obviously all the songs are bad.

The scoring was weird. It was like a murder mystery.

This episode felt like Acafellas in a way. They were protective of the show even though they had no control of the creative side of things or how to promote the show. They just had to do what was written.

They were bummed and thought it wasn't great.

Jenna and Kevin actually ended up enjoying rewatching the episode.

The episode aired May 4, 2010.

The #1 song was OMG by Usher.

On May 5th Glee won a Television With A Conscious Award at the 3rd Annual Television Academy Honors for the Wheels episode. Cory, Chris, and Kevin accepted the award. Kevin doesn't really remember this event. He had a lot of parents with kids in wheelchairs come up to him and wanted him to tell Brad, Ian, and Ryan thank you for having a character like Artie on the show. It made their kids feel represented. (Kevin acknowledged that now we know better. We now know that just having a character exist is the bare minimum. This was the preamble to representation really matters.)

On May 8th the cast of Glee was featured on the cover of Billboard Magazine. They used promo photos for the cover. Even so it was a really cool cover.

During rehearsal for tours Amber came in and was supposed to be on vocal rest. There is a picture where she is sitting cross legged on the stage and it got to where she is supposed to rehearse Beautiful that she sings in Home. They told her not to sing it and to save her voice. She did the most perfect rendition of the song just sitting there. She did all the runs and didn't miss a note. Kevin went from being mad that this was irresponsible to being mad that this was so good. That she had something wrong with her voice and she was still that good.

They are going to talk about the first tour after the finish this season.

This episode was directed by Elodie Keene. She had directed two or three episodes by this point.

Stephen Tobolowsky is back. As is Robin Trocki (Jean). John Groff is still in the Glee club. Yet another guest star was Molly Shannon.

Kevin had no idea that Molly Shannon would be in this episode. Jenna had heard and was waiting for to come to set.

Jenna watched a seen between Molly and Jane. It was unbelievable to watch her especially since Jenna was a huge fan.

Olivia Newton-John was a huge guest star for this episode. She sounded great.

Kevin said he was glad he got to talk to Jane about how much she admired Olivia Newton-John.

Ryan basically manifested this by talking to the guy that wrote most of Olivia's songs.

Olivia Newton-John has a song and album named Don't Stop Believing.

Jenna told a story about how she booked glee and her roommate's boyfriend was drinking a beer while the roommate and Jenna were on the phone. The bottle cap that had a fortune on them. The cap said never flee from glee. The roommate saved the cap for Jenna. Jenna's dad made her a engraved necklace that says never flee from glee that they gave her at her going away dinner when she was moving to California for the show.

Kevin's dad called him when Kevin was testing for Glee to tell him he saw a license plate with Artie on it. He told Kevin that he knew. Jenna said it was meant to be. Kevin said they were supposed to be life partners.

This is the last appearance of Ken Tanaka. It is very brief. You blink and you miss it.

The whole crux of the episode is trying to rehab not only character things but some bad songs.

Kevin loves that Physical by Olivia Newton-John is in this episode. He loves that she was game to poke fun at herself. Kevin said it ended up being very visually stimulating and he's appreciative of that.

The songs in this episode are Ice Ice Baby, You Can't Touch This, Physical, Run Joey Run, and Total Eclipse Of The Heart.

Why wasn't Bad Reputation by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts in this episode? Kevin said maybe it isn't bad enough.

EW recap: A Madonna episode, sure, fun stuff but an episode that contains a mystery, a mega meta rift on a modern celebrity, a purposefully awful series of songs, not one but two high concept retro music videos, and some realistic forward motion on various romantic plotlines. Now we are talking.

As crazy as this episode was it gave us everything. It was all the fun and weirdness of glee and still had all the kids and the storylines happening. It was a great balance.

There are the student reputation and the teacher reputations that are trying to be reformed.

Kurt finds the video of Sue performing Olivia Newton-John's Physical. They decide to post it on Youtube.

Kevin was shocked that going viral on Youtube was a thing at the time this episode was filmed/aired. It was definitely a new concept at the time.

After this we are introduced to Molly Shannon's character. She fits right into the camp of the show.

There could have been so many spin-offs from this show. There was almost a Warbler spin-off.

Sue has a realization that she wants to help people and chooses Emma.

There were a lot of suspension of disbelief things in this episode.

Sue said she has hidden cameras in Will's apartment.

It was kind of nice seeing Sue giving Emma tough love but on the other side of thing is what is Sue getting out of this.

Jenna loves the scene where Emma calls Will a slut while he is talking to the teacher whose husband just died. Jenna thought the scene happened in a later season.

Kevin said he learned to speak up for himself by being all around the ladies in the cast.

The girls had to tell Kevin to stop taking steroids when he was sick and he was acting insane. This was on a plane to England. This is what friends do.

Jenna says this is the best slut shaming she's ever seen. He deserved it and to hear Emma say that is courageous and uplifting.

Kevin said he does thinks this was deserved however when Artie is slut shamed by Sam a few seasons later he doesn't think that was deserved.

There was some weird continuity issues, Emma's outfit changes but Sue's stays the same.

The costume department keeps track of how many days might take place in an episode. This is so they can keep track of what everyone is wearing. There was some sort of mix up in the scenes with Sue and Emma.

Kevin just wants to get to Physical. Jenna said we will get there.

Kurt is going to tell Sue he posted the video to help some of the Glee kids reputations. Sue says its fine and gets a call from the real Olivia Newton-John. Kevin wonders what the direct flight from Australia to Ohio is like because it doesn't many any sense. It's a little ridiculous.

Jenna said that scene was very funny. She said its so hard to not laugh with Chris. He's so funny.

The scene with them huddled around the computer was a new scene. It was done in a new set, the astronomy room which doubled for a lot of other rooms.

Kevin said that program looked like something from the early 90's. You could press any key on the keyboard and it would still type exactly what it was supposed to type. It felt like movie magic and Kevin was excited about it. Kevin can't type without looking at the keyboard.

Jenna remembers when they built the set for Physical. They weren't allowed in according to Kevin. The soundstage was closed off but they could hear it. Kevin wanted to see all the oiled up guys. Ryan directed the music video. He might also have directed all of the scenes with Olivia Newton-John.

Kevin had a crush on all the guys in the Physical music video. They were waiting and peeping outside the door trying to catch a glimpse of the music video being shot.

Kevin would like to know where Sue and the kids were recording their vocals for things like Vogue and Run Joey Run.

Scream checked off all the boxes for Kevin. He says he wishes he could have done the gimble box that Matt and Jayma got to use. Scream was everything. They got to do green screen, dancing, Michael and Janet Jackson.

Jenna got to live out some Brittany dreams. She would have loved to recreated Oops or Lucky. Kevin said she would have killed Lucky.

Jenna gave a tiny little snippet of Lucky.

Back to the episode recap and we get to the Glist.

Will lets this influence the lesson for the glee club and makes a lesson on bad reputations.

Ice Ice Baby is the ultimate Will Schuester song. It somehow works for Will.

Jenna said they put her with the dancers. Kevin said not to sell herself short.

RuPaul asked her when she was on Dragrace and she said yep. Jenna interpreted the question as being a professional performer not dancer. Kevin said nope, Ru, said dancer.

Jenna said it was hard to watch Kevin just sit there and not be able to dance. As has been said many times they put one of their best dancers in a wheelchair.

Kevin had a lot of fun because everyone was aware he was shoved in a corner. How does he make this fun? Who cares. This started sparked the beginning of Kevin trying to get as many shots in as possible of him doing ridiculous things when he had no right to be in the number.

Alexis Woodall, who was head of post production at the time, mentioned that if they needed more reaction shots they would look for Kevin because he would be doing ridiculous things. Elodie would egg them on to do ridiculous things. Kevin did not think the would use them and they sure did. They always used the crazy reactions. They created a monster out of Artie in this number with how they edited it.

Tina, Artie, and Kurt didn't make it on the Glist. Kurt is upset and this means we are nobodies. Worse then being hated is being invisible. Kurt coms up with the idea to disrupt their reputation and it's like no press is bad press. Which Jenna disagrees with. Kurt decides to perform in the library.

We get the scene with Brittany in the corner saying she took all her antibiotics at the same time and forgot how to move. She's upset she only made 4th on the list. She made out with Mr. Kidney the janitor. Laws were broken but she was also sort of dating a 7 year old in Madonna so I guess it's fine.

Artie gets scared and says he is getting cold feet. Brittany says can you even feel your feet.

Kevin had a question about the outfits. Where is the budget? These sort of look homemade. Is Mercedes still making the costumes? It is mentioned in the pilot and never again. This feels like something Mercedes could have done.

The jackets smelled horrible. The pants were handmade for them. Jenna loves the pants and this number a lot.

Kevin was really scared on the day of filming it. When they record the songs they have the lyrics in front of them. On the day they filmed the scene they didn't have the lyrics and Kevin couldn't remember them. The dancing was also crazy. In the bts Heather mentions needing her inhaler.

Kevin in front of the desk is funny and Jenna forgot he had all the vocals. Jenna was exhausted and sweating. It was so hot. Jenna loves watching this number. Kevin's goal was to facially looking disgusting. Artie had no awareness of his face and Kevin would just go there. The actress that played the librarian was just there to work and had no reaction just like the character.

Everything goes awry. The librarian loves it and wants them to perform at her church. This is when Kurt wants to tell Sue they posted the video.

Mr. Schue goes to apologize to Emma. After that he sees Quinn being pushed around in the hallway and realizes she made the list. It was a very sweet seen between Matt and Dianna.

Kevin loves the interrogation scenes and Kurt calling Mr. Schue out on it.

The other half of the club was doing Run Joey Run. She enlists Artie to direct the video.

Jenna had never heard the song before and was most jarred by this in the episode.

How did Artie go from making Vogue to Run Joey Run? Kevin thought what the real editors of the show did was brilliant. Kevin remembers that everyone was dying when they showed them episode and they got to this performance. Cory told them the blood was just ketchup.

Kevin thinks the fans like Puckelberry. Mark was very confused by it. They all thought it was weird. Jenna didn't hate it as much as the first time we saw that pairing.

Stephen Tobolowsky as the farmer was ridiculous.

Kevin doesn't understand why all the guys get upset over the music video. Jesse getting upset is fair but the other two is weird.

Jenna was upset that she didn't get to sing Total Eclipse Of The Heart.

Lea fudged knowing ballet for Total Eclipse. Groff was really lifting. Lea is tiny but still they were working.

Jesse and Rachel make Jenna giggle because of how serious they take their craft. It seems ridiculous but it feels quite true. Musical theatre people take things very seriously.

Kevin had logistical questions. Is this all in their heads. Who are they singing for? At this point it doesn't matter.

★ karlie nonchalantly posted photos from i-D magazine to her insta to everyone’s excitement and my contentment 😌 it was also fun to share about how i-D is a winky face by design

★ we got candids of taylor sporting a circular vivienne westwood bag with big 🧿 energy

★ at the VMA’s taylor gave the BIGGEST wink

★ taylor wore something from MONSE from a collection they put out that had a lot of eyeballs in their designs 🥴

- awe (the brand that did the le duo necklace and other necklaces that taylor has worn) announced an evil eye collection, much to my delight, and so i bought myself a little trinket for my birthday

- miles teller did a looking camp right in the eye promo for the st. louis blues

★ karlie posted from the behind the scenes of an upcoming estée lauder commercial with half her face showing in a mirror

☆ we found some professional footage taken of the willow eras tour performance and there’s a moment where taylor motions to the side and her hand eclipses a willow ball off to the right side 😆

yes ok. welcome back! did i make you dizzy? jeepers my eyes do hurt, just after putting together this update! but i come bearing gifts…! frankincense, myrrh, gold, and a *plump* 2021 eye theory update for the remaining bakers dozen or so of us left hanging in this manger… because apparently that’s just the way things will be 😘 again, i’m far past proving this thing and more into sharing, yeah, sharing the fun memories over the past year living with this theory so that’s what i’ll do. and this requires more than the ten picture limit so in lieu of that i will be updating only once but with links to each finding. my demarcation is the same as last year:

2021 year in review

JANUARY

★ kimby posting the eye mirror thing at the beginning of the year (which i posted about at the end of the last update)

★karlie liked a tweet (a rarity at the time) from henry hall promoting his new album… that had an eye and the number 13 on the album cover.

-we found another great photo match example

☆ we noticed something up with a new carolina herrera ad that ended up showing up again later in the year

☆ we noticed taylor covering her eye during rep tour while singing even in my worst lies you saw the truth in me

-we noticed an oft forgotten appearance of the evil eye ring in the rep promo material, photos of her on the beach

FEBRUARY

☆ we found a potential easter egg in the end game mv

★ one of the lyric videos for fearless TV had a fun synching moment ..that taylor then put in her instagram stories

★ taylor posted a bleachella era pic of her and the haim sisters that had the sisters covering eyes with their hoodies, and then honest to god this is just one of those thing i can’t quite conscionably explain but there are two boxes of pizzas being held and the cheese only pizza looks like the “blank” of the two pizzas and it’s to the right of the picture

★ kayda and kai did some eye funny business

MARCH

★ the grammys… so, taylor’s performance included choreography that covers her right side eye along with the line “guess i should have known from the look on your face” and i know this is one of the things people particularly do not like but i’m such a sucker for prop comedy: i think the shape of the lean-to cabin itself is the shape of an eye and also the belted waist part of her dress looks like an eye, i said what i said

-and this can’t help but feel like chance, but, we got this red carpet press photo of her grammy covering her eye

-something also feeling serendipitous, karlie got papped by some eye graffiti

APRIL

-The Vault reveal left me wanting to get my eyes checked 😂

☆ we realized one could make the argument that there’s a eye isolated by the mask on her male counterpart in willow, and that the mask has a drooping daisy embroidered on it

-i got the chance to talk a little bit more about my thoughts on the editing that went on with the mert and marcus rep photoshoot photos, and my thoughts on computer graphic manipulation as it relates to other things, in particular lead time

★ taylor seemed to have more fun with synching up the fearless tv clip to music 🙈

★ taylor’s mother’s day merch included a postcard with a daisy and the lyric “i love you for giving me your eyes”

MAY

-not for nothing, austin posted a picture of him at the Oculus building in NYC (oculus being a word that means eye, austin being someone who rarely updates his instagram these days)

★ karlie got back in the saddle with posting an eye out of frame

★ some preview photos of karlie’s green adidas collection were released, and they included this amazing shot

JUNE

☆ adam rippon posted a little ode to karlie’s “looking camp right in the eye 👁 ” moment, which normally id just chalk up to it having become a meme but at the same time, bobby berk liked the post and they were both in the yntcd mv, so it’s sorta amusing

★ karlie posts “filed under baking inspo” moodboard which included a pic of a face made of food with one eye 🥴🥴🥴 like i’m sorry, is this not proof of acknowledgement 😆

★ karlie posts a photoset of her in workout clothes and she’s covering the left side eye in a lot of the pics

★ karlie wore some eye-like rain and sunshine earrings from two jewelers that also make custom lover’s eye jewelry

SEPTEMBER

-this is just an it’s a small world moment having to do with researching the band of outsiders brand

✦★✶ karlie went to mert alas’ gin release party in paris I REPEAT she went to the party being held by the guy who took the rep album photoshoot photos aka the guy who took the actual eye theory photo and not only did she get a pic with him, she drank out of the gin glasses that had an eye like pattern cut into them???

★ karlie woke me up again and chose violence

-i forget how i ran into this but it’s this old photoshoot of karlie in a daisy full body suit with her arms and head in the shape of an eye idk lol

★ karlie posted a photoset with some eye blocking moments going on

-in a moment of meta, karlie got the chance to post a pic of bert and ernie to her instagram stories as she was also a part of the WSJ innovators issue

-The Missing Eye Puzzle Piece it turned out that the missing capital one red bundle puzzle piece was simply missing, and it has been found, **but** i had an amazing couple of weeks imagining the ARG possibilities. oh and i still love that the right side eye is the 11th puzzle piece across, 8 rows down (karlie numbers)

DECEMBER

★ karlie posted again blockin an eye 😂

★ shes so good at finding an opportunity

★ karlie wearing a sweatshirt with an eye on it because why not i guess 🙈

-surely coincidental but i did laugh at where her music choice in this post led me

so there you have it, folks! 2021, a kaylor year that had me throwing my hands up and deciding to bend with the wind and roll with the punches… paid dividends?! i included the ephemera (the winks and out of frames) just because i see them as a sustainable avenue for the dreary new parent, but all these aside it still blows my mind how many distinctly significant things happened in conjunction with the theory this year and i hope very very deeply and earnestly that each and every one of you may have had the chance to crack a smile or two as well 😌

its weird… seeing karlie and mert photographed gave me this lavish sense of… coming full circle! but 🥰 who knows what next year will bring. what can i say, as if it was my greco-roman destiny, i know i will always beat the drum for this theory if they will have me. eye can’t help myself!

me looking way too much into background elements and going off topic? its more likely than you think.

In the new intro we got Darcy’s head covering the moon. I just thought “Hey that’s cool lighting, and Darcy’s blocking the moon-” and now I’m stuck here trying to theorise when the invasion will happen and what we have to address still, with only eleven episodes left of the original story. So, here’s two theories I have come up with completely based off of an opening (I wrote this before I saw the Froggy Little Christmas promo, but I’ve edited it). I apologise. 

1. The invasion will happen on an eclipse.

Why? Purely for the aesthetic. In more detail, it comes from the new opening.

To be honest, I just looked at it and all I really can say is how the full moon is covered up by her head (a black helmet) but you can still see its glow, like an eclipse, but I am kind of liking the idea. I imagine it’ll be either a total or annular eclipse, as they just purely look cooler and more similar to that in the image. Also, the appearance of an eclipse matches up pretty well with Darcy and the Core’s designs (eerie and black with glowing orange (in some cases)) and it’d be the most super villain thing to do. This series has already has a theme with stars, so why not the moon?

2. I don’t even know how to title this: INVASIONS??? SOMEHOW??

This mess started from me coming up with what moon it’d be when they invaded. I originally thought that the end moon in If You Give a Frog a Cookie is a waning crescent, and that pretty soon they’ll invade (we already knew that but hey) as it’s the closest to the new moon, which also could be the moon they invade on, and therefore the invasion will take place in Froggy Little Christmas. BUT, sadly, it’s not a waning crescent but a waxing crescent, which is after a new moon, so either Froggy Little Christmas would take places weeks after this episode, or it wouldn’t match up and the theory flopped. But, this all led me into guessing when exactly the invasion will be.

I know that it wasn’t originally going to be the finale, but the fact that it works as a finale, from Matt himself, is just terrifying, ESPECIALLY when it comes to this show and its finales. Could it just be a light-hearted Christmas special? Possibly, and probably. But the fact it has its own song, the episode description of “meanwhile, King Andrias prepares a deadly surprise” whatever the fuck that means, AND all of these screenshots:

Something’s got to happen. Just a sprinkle of drama at the end, maybe. This is the notorious “pain” show, afterall.

I tried thinking that perhaps the attack would be at the start of season 3B, but it wouldn’t match up. They would atleast have to introduce something in Froggy Little Christmas first or it wouldn’t really work as the premiere. If the original finale is going to be dramatic and will introduce the invasion, then it wouldn’t fit right if it came out of nowhere after a break. However, there is always the most probable outcome: that this is just a case of angst crave, and the attack will happen much later into season 3B (we do have SO many questions that haven’t been answered, and tackling that with a full scale invasion would be incredibly difficult, especially if it lasted ten whole episodes) and season 3B will be predominantly exploring Earth and dealing with the ripple affects of Froggy Little Christmas (also more Sasha and Grime in Wartwood episodes because I am dying to see how this turns out). My main guess is that it’s like a huge ass robot being controlled by Andrias. It’ll try to wreck the parade/festival, which will result in them having to fight it, and will destroy the float they worked so hard on in the process.

TL;DR: The invasion might happen later season 3B and the image of the foot we saw in the older promo is from a robot Andrias is controlling, who will try to wreck the festival. Amphibia season 3B will also focus around the ripple affect from Froggy Little Christmas. The invasion could happen on an eclipse.

i just saw the new poster and teasers for the film version of the goldfinch and it reminded me of how very excellent your illustrations were for it and how well they captured the mood so just letting u know the real film version of the goldfinch in my heart is the hypothetical film based off your concepts

ahahah my god this actually means so much to me....... thank you.........

i’m avoiding the promo material for the film version not because i want to dismiss the work that was put into the film but i just... am so attached to the visuals i imagined 3 years ago when i read the book. i’ve graduated from school and have begun working since those illustrations, and i just have not been able draw with such excitement and passion since those concepts. it’s so meaningful, in the most bittersweet way possible, to know those illustrations still mean something to people beside myself, because it feels like that was the last time i could approach art in the unadulterated, this-is-totally-me way that i’ve had to compromise some parts of to launch my career. 

all i really wanted to do with those drawings was to impart some sort of visual love letter to donna tartt’s writing and what it had elicited in me as a reader, and even the most succinctly filmed adaptation could never eclipse that. i’m so glad my drawings could have a similar effect on you too, so thank you so so much for letting me know!

Another thing to consider is that they still havent done any promo shoots as far as we know. That has to be done soon because the promo should start in August.

That’s true. I really hope they something like the old west promo or total eclipse of this the heart. The sitcom was so cute too! And I would love a coaches song too.

Not surprised if ML will use Blake's name again to draw attention to her flop songs/sucky album. So far, her team's effort in using her husband's body didn't work, they tried dropping Marren and Carrie's names too, but didn't generate much interest. She's really irrelevant without Blake's name attached to her 🙄 Anyway, I can't wait for the Voice's promo pictures/clips!! When are they gonna start releasing it.

I can’t wait either. They usually run the promo clip for quite a while before the premiere. I hope its funny.  S4, Total Eclipse of the Heart was probably my favorite but I love the Old West and the Sitcom too.
