Choosing only 5 was a tough decision so I cheated a bit, if you can forgive me 🙏 Also, I’m still a beginner in Chinese novels so I haven’t read many titles yet 

1. MXTX’s stories in general (novelupdates)

Stories with elaborate plots, compelling characters, a lot of humor, and devotion and love that grabs you by the heart. You get a few punches in the gut which make you bleed internally for these characters, but also a lot of love and justice for them, warming your insides after the pain. It’s ups and downs on a road of intriguing plots which engage you until the very end, with many twists and turns and unexpected events. I am forever impressed by MXTX for the art of storytelling and for creating such wonderful and rich worlds which are not black and white. There are numerous moral dilemmas and it’s not that easy to say who is in the right, leaving you with many questions about human nature and areas to explore.

MDZS was my first Chinese novel actually, I started reading it while it was still being translated. My door to this world, so I am additionally fond of it. The beginning was pretty tough because of all the names and sects and details, as for many people I presume. But boi was it worth it. I fell in love with MC, a ray of sunshine with a heart of gold, ready for the greatest sacrifices for his loved ones and for what he felt was right, bearing heavy responsibilities on his shoulders while still keeping his free and cheerful self. And so smart. I am weak for smart people. The plot engrossed me and I was almost going insane waiting for new chapters to be published. I love crime stories. I could go on and on about all the characters and things I love about MDZS but it’d be a few k words long so I’ll end here lmao.

TGCF makes me burst of rainbows when I think about the main pair asfvhbvjernovn. I think it may be my favourite pair ever. What these two had to go through made me physically feel pain and I wailed like a baby reading The Cursed Book 4. But what they found in each other, the pure raw devotion... just messes me up, truly. Also, the humor is just top notch for me lmfao I love MXTX’s humor.

SVSSS was extremely funny to me, but it was also quite frustrating. At some point I was pretty much tired of the misunderstandings. Also the world was not that interesting? I mean, MC was lazing around and nothing much happened there around the world before ML started... some stuff. But the last straw was the main pair’s relationship. Really not satisfying to me, [spoiler] MC just going “ugh fine”, and their first time being pretty much r*pe. I know that they did develop their relationship in the extras, but [end of spoiler] I still felt kind of disappointed by their dynamic, not really my thing. But the secondary pair moshang hvyuhivtyfuhvctfygu goddamn I love them, one of my OTPs 💙 And I HURT for qijiu. And love lqg. Overall, I enjoyed the novel for the humor and I love side characters and side threads, but I experienced a lot of frustration and wasn’t satisfied by many parts, so it’s the only MXTX novel I didn’t reread and needed a lot of fanfics to feel the main pair because it didn’t manage to click for me in the original work.

There are many more things I could say about these novels but let’s stop here lmao 

2. The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have to Be in True Love (novelupdates)

One of my favourite. Also a comedy so there is a lot of laughing, especially because of MC's poker face and disabilities which caused a lot of funny misunderstandings. Actually never have I read a cnovel with a handicapped MC (he's deaf without his hearing aid and blind without his glasses). There is a lot of angst and healing, about being broken and betrayed countless of times... It’s another trope which speaks to me - when a broken, betrayed, full of mistrust and hatred person meets someone who is truly and honestly devoted to them, and slowly learns to open up to them and trust again 😭 The plot and the world is also very interesting. There are some silly parts or minor cliches, but what I like about this novel is how it takes those cliches and turns them into something original and surprising. Yeah, this novel has a lot of layers.

3. Faraway Wanderers (novelupdates)

I’d say that while MXTX meticulously weaves her intricate stories, Priest in TYK went “there is some plot going on somewhere in the background but main characters couldn’t care less” lmfao. While reading the novel I had so many ideas how some details could be used, but they just weren’t xd I saw some of what I expected being used in the drama though (Word of Honor), but I still haven’t started watching; waiting for more episodes to be translated plus I want to finish the fic I’m writing before diving into the drama, to keep novel-compliant. So generally, the plot in the novel wasn’t really compelling but I absolutely adore the main pair. I’m weak for the grumpy and hard to get shou and obsessed unhinged gong lmao. And generally power couples. And the slow gaining of trust, peeling the layers and becoming vulnerable in front of each other. Mmmm yeah many tropes that just hit me likes

On a side note, this is my first Priest novel, so can’t say much about her other stories yet

4. Transmigration into a fucked up world with a yandere ML xd

Read it quite some time ago. Hmmm quite heavy and I'd put a lot of warnings here, very explicit and with some dub-con. Starts lighter though, the first book was pretty cute. But also awful most of the time xd The characters suffered a lot... I remember that I was pretty hooked on the plot, had some "but"s here and there and I think it got pretty ridiculous near the end? But I still enjoyed. I may have something for unhinged MLs 👀

Picked up by the Protagonist of a Tormented! MC Novel (novelupdates)

Didn’t finish unfortunately, got too busy with Uni before it got translated fully and never could go back so I don’t know how it ended. What was fascinating was that the MC got thrown into a body of a literal infant while he still retained his mind. So we get to see him grow with a very smart and very suspicious ML, requiring the MC to be extremely careful to act like a child and not be thrown away, but also help ML in any way. This novel was ruthless, just a warn, two small children on the streets going through literal hell. Not sure, but there might be r*pe in the chapters I didn’t reach, so a bit :/ I should read it again and finally finish sometime in the future xd

Every Day the Protagonist Wants to Capture Me (novelupdates)

It starts exactly like SVSSS but develops differently. It's one of those novels which was good and interesting in the first part and got ridiculous and kinda disappointing towards the end. Enjoyed the first half very much, was disappointed by the second half though.

5. The Legendary Master’s Wife (novelupdates)

It's so long it took me months to read. The translation I read at the beginning was utterly disastrous and I had trouble understanding, especially since there is a lot about cultivation or how pills are created (MC is not a cultivator but a pill-maker, also a plus for something fresh), so for a newbie me it was an additional difficulty. But it was my 2nd cnovel ('cause it was picked up by exiled rebels and I was fresh after mdzs on their site), and y’know one can stand a lot at the beginning lol. Pretty silly, with cliche tropes and a lot of holes, but I laughed many times. I enjoyed it while I was bedridden with one awful flu and needed something light. So I like it for a few personal reasons. The world and its mechanics are actually very detailed, I think that's what kept me mostly, the curiousity to learn about another layer and the outcome of some disputes.

Overall, I like most of them for some parts, but wouldn’t rate them as masterpieces and have quite a few “but”s. But the novel doesn’t need to be perfect to be enjoyed :)

Hey! You like BL cultivation novels with a transmigrating protagonist who wants to change the events of his favorite web novel for the better? How about more of that, but with diminishing returns?

Ling Xia, average nerd, is severely disappointed with the unexpected apocalyptic ending of his favorite web novel and goes to bed furious. He wakes up in the body of a character in this web novel, a character so unimportant, he doesn’t even have a proper name. This character, however, is also close to the protagonists. Could he, a nobody, influence the villain enough to prevent the apocalyptic ending?

Reading the first half, my interest slowly grew. The plot in volume one was an interesting murder story, with some world-building that wasn’t too bad. And, that plot is resolved within the volume. Volume two’s plot, on the other hand, was completely cut off by Ling Xia transmigrating back, leaving it somewhat unresolved. It makes up for this weakness by throwing in a bunch of interesting side characters.

Volumes three and four throw all those side characters back out to focus on the romance. And the romance is shit. Volume three has a side plot involving betrayals, palace intrigue, and a rescue plot, but since Ling Xia was not involved, most of it happens offscreen. Volume four is even worse, with the romantic lead’s abusive, manipulative behavior on full display and no sub-plot to mix it up.

Not once did the romantic lead sacrifice a thing to be with Ling Xia. Even worse, the moment he had to pay a price to be with Ling Xia, he had Ling Xia pay it instead. He’s a shit romantic lead and this is a shit romance.

As for Ling Xia, he’s kind of boring and oblivious in a way that is not fun. If I have to read yet another BL with a protagonist that keeps whining about how he’s “straight, damnit” this month, I’ll be very sad.

To all the danmei lovers out there. I need help....

Okay so i started reading RVP a few days ago because a massive rec from the community. I check NU and it said its completey translated. I've never read uncomplete novel/comic/story/etc before. Any uncomplete story for that matter not just the translated one because i cant stand the idea of unfinished story.

Anyway, since it said completely translated, i started reading it, and i loved it! LOVED IT! Its been a long time since i read a good danmei bl novel, and this one is GREAT!

And then...... it stop at volume 2 in NU. Which is bullshit bcs there's 4 volume. I found out that volume 3 and 4 is translated by bonbonbltransation but their website is down and i cant reach it anymore. I dig the internet and found volume 3 but i can't find volume 4 everywhere!

So please pls pls god pls whoever you are that has the volume 4 translations pls can i get one of your copies? I'm really desperate here. Like i said in the beginning, i want to cry.....

The MC transmigrated into a web novel as a mob character and wanted to rehabilitate the villain (obviously to prevent his own cannon fodder life!) but only to realize the MC was becoming even more villainous as the story unfolded. I really enjoyed this novel to begin with; the idea of having some random dude completely change the destinies of the two male characters’ despite being a cannon fodder mob paved the way for many a laughs!

However, my interest waned considerably from the end of book 2 because of what I felt were ‘filler’ events and things started dragging on a bit. To be honest, I couldn’t understand why the male lead behaved the way he did half the times. In my opinion there were far too many unnecessary sex scenes and I can’t think of any reason for them other than to fill out the book or just for fan service. It was a short love from me, and definitely not something I’d read again.

Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator / 穿越女遇到重生男 By 雪山岚

The MC transmigrated into the beautiful but detestable main character of a story she’d been reading. To ensure a smooth and trouble free life, she’d need to rectify all her character’s potential wrongs. However, little would she know that her attempts would be for nought because the handsome ML had reincarnated and not only did he hate her, he was determined to avoid her at all costs! I found the story decent to begin with, and the food always sounded sooooo good. However, the story soon became a bit too draggy and I felt as though the author was just adding unnecessary plots and scenes just to lengthen the story…

Okay, because i'm currently in Danmei and Transmigration hell

So I recently ventured into reading more c-novels because I finished reading all of MXTX's works multiple times and I got feelings I need to vent.

If you liked SVSSS then I would recommend you to read 2Ha and/or Transmigrating into a Mob Character to Rehabilitate the Villain plan.

I promise you, I thought Shen Qingqiu was my one and only Shizun and then I met Chu Wanning who snatched that spot faster than I could blink. I swear I started crying for Shizun like every other chapter. Young Mo Ran (MC) and Mo Ran 2.0 remind me so much of young Binghe/Bingmei, while Mo Ran 0.5 reminds me of Bingge. AND THE AMOUNT OF MISUNDERSTANDINGS BETWEEN THIS SHIZUN/DISCIPLE PAIR. Also 2Ha is a lot more angsty than SVSSS tho so pls be warned.

If you thought Shen Qingqiu had it rough figuring out Luo Binghe's feelings while trying to keep him from losing it then does VRP (Villain Rehab Plan for short) have a surprise for you. This story is about our MC transmigrating into an online cultivation novel with a great plot but terrible ending. He's trying to change the plot and ending by raising the ML to not become the enemy of righteous sects while dealing with the ML's growing feelings for him.

Please read these novels, they are so good!! My summaries and comparisons aren't doing these novels enough justice so just read em!!

Julie here and to be quite honest with you anon I’ve read a few stories with the same scenario you mentioned. In the end, the S/O just ends with the Yandere due to the “power of love” stockholm syndrome or if it isn’t exactly love...Well you already know what I’m trying to imply. The Legendary Master’s Wife -- It’s so long it’s somewhat annoying but a classic and it deserves to be one. The action and cultivation scenes are also probably the best of the bunch.

The Founder of Diabolism -- Also a classic, though I’m puzzled on how they’re going to make it an anime without censoring everything. Also it being a supernatural mystery rather than just a cultivation novel is fun.

The Overbearing Aura is Spilling Over -- The translation’s barely started but I’m intrigued. Apparently the MC/ML start as friends? Which is nice.

Transmigrating into a Mob Character to Rehabilitate the Villain Plan -- Another classic but the translator’s nonsense ruined it a bit for me.

Who Dares Slander My Senior Brother -- LOVE IT. THE TWIST IS SO GOOD.
