Designing the main villains!

I was a bit stumped on what to do with Gunmar and Bular, but some lovely people over on TikTok suggested that Drago and his Bewilderbeast swap places with Gunmar, so I decided to combine the two of them for his design :)

I assigned Bular to switch places with the Red Death since she’s a first movie exclusive character, and Bular is also pretty much a first season exclusive villain (if I’m remembering things correctly ?) Overall the designs actually translated very well into trolls which is awesome. It’s with Bular/RedDeath that Hiccup loses his leg in this AU.

I also worked a bit more on Hiccup’s armour since my previous attempt was a little too bland for my liking. It was a bit of a juggle of trying to make it look more ‘Hiccup’ and Viking-ish, while also trying to maintain that classic sleek clean look of Trollhunter armour.

It was especially hard considering that the Daylight armour is magically summoned, so it wouldn’t really make sense for it to have things like belts or clothing underneath. I made do by just mish mashing a bit of both worlds. The trick was just to add more leather into the design. I’m still not super satisfied with his prosthetic leg though, so I’ll also have to redesign that.

As established before, Fishlegs is taking over the role of both Eli and Toby :) I’d imagine that he hangs out a lot with Blinky at Trollmarket needing out together. He’s taken a strong interest in wanting ALL about Troll culture ever since Hiccup becomes Trollhunter.

I’m not too sure how I want the twins’ backstories should be as Akiridians, since they barely really have one in canon. But so far I got three options :

I do think that when the twins are in their human disguises at school, they immediately latch onto the most interesting person they find, that being Snotlout. They cause him so much grief by annoying him half to death and dragging him into weird situations.

The Zippleback twins are notoriously known for being tricksters who keep stealing jewelry and bedazzling themselves with it. They’re technically banned from Trollmarket but keep somehow appearing anyway, and Vendel has long since given up on trying to find out how and keeping them out

Very random headcanon, but Barf’s real name is Bartholomew, and that’s why people call him Barf. That’s all I had to say.

Someone else on TikTok also just opened my eyes to Wizard Heather. I was initially going to make Dagur a changeling, but I thought it would be infinitely funnier if he was actually just some regular ass guy who EVERYONE thinks is a changeling purely based off his behaviour.

Snotlout is probably going to be an antagonist for a short bit after he finds out about both his and his father’s true nature, because Spitelout convinces him that the Trollhunters are their enemy and Snotlout doesn’t know anything and just assumes he’s telling the truth.

Potential backstory for Hookfang which might end up being too outlandish to use hut whatever : one of the reasons Hookfang is one of the only ones to not care Snotlout is half changeling is because he also used to be part of a Gumm Gumm experiment to combine Stalkling biology with regular Troll biology, which earns him a bit of a bad reputation in Trollmarket. Because of this he lives pretty much on the very outskirts of the market, and understands Snotlout’s struggles.

hi aaron. i have an ask about the ending of wizards!! (hoping it hasnt been asked yet)

i believe(?) i read that one of the ideas for post-full-troll jim was for him to become a changeling. was there a reason he turned fully human again instead? thank you!!

For Wizards, we’d originally planned for Claire to use her new mastery over shadow magic to turn Jim into a changeling, just as Morgana originally created them back in the Middle Ages. (Merlin couldn’t do it or refused to acknowledge the possibilities of its powers, because he never learned or trusted dark magic.) Jim would have been able to shift between human, half-troll and beast form at will — or perhaps via his emotions, not unlike The Hulk.

This ending was altered when those working on the follow-up film determined Jim’s arc for the movie would revolve around him coming to terms with losing his powers and being “merely human” during the magic apocalypse. Sadly, our ending simply wouldn’t work with that direction for the film.

For the curious, I’ve attached a small snippet of the original outline grid to see how it would have slotted in rather elegantly.

Nomura's name is and has always been Nomura with no first name. Just like Prince recall Aaron mentioning at some point. This does however bring the question, how did that take off and become fannon in the first place? Well the answer is Trollhunters A, B, C's by Luke Flowers which was created for a Trollhunters gallery Nucleus exhibition! For some reason it was taken as official and the rest as they say is history.

I’ve seen this done with the httyd cast, so I thought I’d do it with the TOA team.

In a future where dragons do return, I have each of the OG cast with their own dragon, most new species not seen by the surface before, as is tradition with new dragon riders.

I’ll let you guess each one’s classes.

And yes, Merlin has history with Dragons, but not the kind you think.

And Yes. Steve does get a dragon- he did request a Dragon quest.

Some background for this AU

It started as me wanting to redo my Jersey and Wizards fics

I never initially intended to go as far back as changing Trollhunters, only changing Wizards and RotT and including Jersey

But over time I began making some lore changes and realized that many scenes from the original ended up getting altered, and without proper content, many of my changes to Wizards would fall apart

So as such I went back and only planned to do the minor changes necessary while keeping most of Trollhunter’s largely the same

But the with more editing and tweaking, this fic eventually become a full AU rewrite starting from Trollhunters

So now— some changes made

Trollhunter now begins in Jim and Toby’s freshman year. And the amulet of daylight make Jim become a half troll

Idk if you answer questions on Trollhunters anymore but

I've been wondering lately about Blinky and Kanjigars dynamic and while I know the tie-in books display some of it (saying they were best friends, ect) I was wondering if you had anymore insight to give on the two? like for example to what extent did Blinky help with training Kanjigar as Trollhunter?

I think they likely had some interaction, but it may have largely been one of admiration on Blinky’s side. From what I recall in the writers’ room, when we meet Blinky at the beginning of Trollhunters he is largely considered an eccentric, if not somewhat of a hasbeen, because the last Trollhunter he personally trained was Unkar the Unfortunate who died so quickly that Blinky lost credibility.

We do see in some episodes that Blinky is quite familiar with Kanjigar’s moves and exploits — “Kanjigar’s Creeping Spider! A Classic!” I’m sure Kanjigar tolerated his praise and/or suggestions admirably, while mostly keeping his distance or doing his own thing.
