I was made aware of this through a reddit post: we can nominate movies to be preserved in the National Film Registry, and we should nominate some Dreamworks movies. Shrek is already in it. The criteria is that the nominations must be at least 10 years old and an American film. With this in mind, I think we should nominate the following movies to be preserved in the registry:

Turbo (and by extension, King Candy) definitely feeds off the praise of his players, regardless of who they are. Heck, I can imagine there was SOME merch of him during his prime and someone wearing his shirt or keychain would come up to play Turbo Time and he would just flourish in that attention. Even when they are done and leave, he's turn to the Turbo Twins and go "Always'th a pleasure to indulge my fans~!" Cue eye roll from the twins.

Turbo's pixelated smile and 8-bit model jumping in place when he sees his favorite player, his faithful fan come into the arcade once more. Sometimes by themselves, his favorite, or sometimes with someone else to be a Player 2. Of course, Turbo would perform his best either time. Hearing his player exclaim "Yes!" when Turbo drove to the finish line was like ecstasy for him. Similar to a different high he would get when the arcade closed, but that was for another time.

The shared victory would sometimes be short lived as their companion would simply groan or shrug and tug at them to go play elsewhere. Turbo didn't like those times. His pixel eyes would watch them go, leave him once more. And he would feel empty for a little bit. Until the next quarter came.

Somehow, it didn't feel the same. The new player was decent. They cheered when they won. But they didn't give him the same amount of.. praise. Or enthusiasm as his favorite. His character model didn't jump up when he heard their voice. He didn't smile as wide at the victory. He didn't feel that urge to jump out of the cabinet screen just to-

Oh, damn. He missed that player. Preferred that player. Their praise. Their voice cheering him on. He found himself getting ready to take on another day of racing hoping they would come to the arcade, to his game.

He hated anyone else taking away their attention. Any other game, any person or player. He loved when they came alone. When it was him.. and his faithful player.

Ferro My Beloved (A Stexico review)

I watched Expreso Astral (stexico) for the first time and I’m kind of obsessed. There were things I wasn’t crazy about, like cutting a couple of songs, including wide smile\CB, and right place right time. but the things that were great were really great and I was having so much fun that I honestly didn’t notice some of the cuts until the end. Oh my God this is my favorite Rusty. Everything was so on point for him. Physical acting, voice. He was perfect. I was genuinely emotionally moved by starlight express. Something I didn’t expect to say this week. I wish there were more recordings. My friend and I don’t speak Spanish, so what we did was pull up the translations on the wiki. But if you are familiar with at least one of the 90’s productions you don’t really need to know exactly what they're saying at all times to enjoy it. 

Spoilers ahead: 

One notable change is that Rusty or Ferro as he is known here is explicitly stated to be Mexican, and it's one of the things Greaseball (Turbo in this) bullies him about. And there’s something so hilariously fucked up about that. Like Ferro has it bad, he’s gotta deal with twice the oppression, to the point where the song Call Me Rusty is mostly about how he’s Mexican. And then when he goes up to Perla asking if she wants to ride with the fastest engine she’s like “That would be great. Where is he?” Like Jesus, talk about the worst she can say is no. But that won’t stop Ferro because he is a proud Mexican Steam train, and train god prefers him specifically.

 Also, the audience was infectious. They were clearly having so much fun. If you’re a Stex fan and you haven’t seen this, please do. I had this big smile on my face for most of it. I think future productions can actually learn from this one.

A couple other things I wanna shout out. The Rockies were fantastic. Like seriously, keep an eye out for them. They’re amazing. There’s so much great physical comedy in this one honestly everyone was pulling their weight in that regard. There are two additional nationals in this, The Brazilian Engine Carioca and the Argentinian Engine El Pibe. At several points during the races engines will just stop to beat the shit out of each other and I think that’s really funny. Purse and Krupp join the girls during Pumping Iron, and that’s just wonderful. 

One thing I want to point out is that this production has one of the same problems that the new Bochum one does. That being the pearl is clothed entirely in white and silver. When the light shines on her, she becomes blindingly invisible.

In short, this production just further cements my feelings that people who don’t like Starlight Express either saw a really bad production, or just don’t like fun. I was dazzled by this production and it made me fall in love with Starlight Express all over again. 

One last thing. The actor who played Ferro Ricardo Villarreal unfortunately passed away only seven years after Expreso Astral closed in 2005. I can't help but wonder what brought about the death of this talented man at such a young age, but I haven't been able to find any information about what happened. If anyone knows any thing about him or how he died please share what you know. Thankyou.

I’VE NEVER ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THE IMPLICATION THAT TURBO SPED ACROSS GAME CENTRAL STATION AND THEN THROUGH THE CORD TUNNEL WITH HIS CAR!!??

First off. INSANE visual

Perhaps it was similar to how Ralph’s hijacked spaceship flew everywhere in GCS except it’s Turbo in his racecar screaming OUT OF MY WAY!!!! And clouding up dust everywhere .. and then characters are like. Was that Turbo ?? Oh no…

But It would be SO COOL to see that event play out real-time in the game world instead. Cuz the flashback is Highly Condensed. Did it really all happen at once? Probably not, maybe over the course of a day or two ..? But I find it so interesting that the sequence is all from the perspective of the outside world… there’s just something about that that presentation that made him all the more mysterious and unnerving.

(It was also probably to prevent spoiling what his 3D model looks like but Yeah)

Also some more speculating ..

Do you think he was able to get out of that Terrible Fiasco he caused because running into the other racer corrupted them both into Glitches ? The Roadblasters guy was probably corrupted too badly.. but maybe Turbo somehow glitched out to escape and then tried to alter his code to repair himself- Maybe in some old debug menu where nobody would notice. Maybe THAT’S where he realized he could code himself into whatever he wanted.

FOR BEING A MAIN VILLAIN (twist villain to be fair. But Still .) THERE SURE IS A LOT OF MYSTERY AROUND HIM.. but maybe if we knew more he wouldn’t have been as mysterious and the twist wouldn’t have worked . BUT I NEED ANSWERS!!!!!!!!???

If there was one thing The Outrunners were known for, it was bringing a certain level of intensity to the ring. It didn't matter if it was for simple matches on Ring of Honor or if it was for the death feud that they had found themselves in against the Death Riders in defense of AEW, that intensity was hardly ever matched. It was something Tori Thompson loved about her position as their manager, it was why she and the man who the fans knew as Turbo Floyd had become best friends as kids in the first place. That intensity was a key aspect to every facet of their lives.

Including in the gym.

"One more, Turbs! Gimmie one more!" Tori chuckled as she acted as the spotter for Turbo, who laid on the bench at the gym, lifting his set of weights. His face seemed to contort as he pushed the set from his chest up towards where the hooks on either side of the bar were. Bench presses were always his favorite and, more often than not, Turbo pushed himself past his limit. The moment she could, Tori placed the barbell back on its hooks, a wide grin across her pink-painted lips, "There we go!"

Turbo tried to control his breathing, sitting up and swinging his feet over the side of the bench. He placed his hands on his glistening thighs, head down, "How many?"

"Enough," Tori grinned as she handed him the pink water bottle he carried to the gym with him for days like these, "you did so good!"

Turbo accepted the water bottle, sipping from it as he attempted to catch his breath. It looked, for a moment, like he was going to say something before the reflection of someone leaving the locker room to enter the gym area caught his eyes, ducking his head almost shyly. Tori's eyes followed his, beaming when she realized that it was the third member of the team, Truth Magnum. It was weird to her that Turbo wasn't excited to see their friend.

"Hey you two!" Truth beamed, clapping Tori and Turbo on their backs, "I miss anything exciting?"

"Turbs came so close to breaking his record!" Tori grinned up at the older man, "I'm sure he's got it next time for sure!"

Turbo glanced at Tori, as if he wished she had never spoken in the first place, "Oh…it was nothing…"

"Don't sell yourself short, kid!" Truth squeezed his shoulder, a charming smile underneath his thick mustache. "I'm gonna hit my cardio on the tread! You wanna join me?"

"Oh…uh…give me a minute, yeah? Gotta wipe down the bench and rack the weights," Turbo seemed less enthused than he had, Tori noted. In fact, there was something going on with the man she considered her brother. She popped the gum in her mouth, planting her hands on her hips.

"I'll be right over there when you're done!" Truth beamed again, turning to cross to the other side of the gym. He pulled the bottom of his shirt up and over his head, broad and oiled chest back coming well into view. The inhale of a sharp breath from the man beside her caused Tori to glance over at Turbo. From the half widening of his eyes to the way his tongue rested on his lower lip, suddenly Tori realized what the problem with Turbo was.

"Hey, Turbs, how long have ya been in love with Mags?"

"𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕?" there was a slight squeak to his voice, though he tried to keep his voice quiet, "What do you mean!? I…I don't…"

"You totally do!" Tori gasped.

"No idea what you mean," Turbo grunted as he moved to put away the flat plates back in their proper place.

"Turbo! Ya know what I mean!" Tori shook her head, trying not to sound as frustrated as she felt.

"Nooope," he drew out, though Tori could see his eyes lift to watch Truth as he jogged on the treadmill across the room, though he quickly looked away again. She felt so confused. Over the years that they had known each other, there had never been any secrets between the two.

"Why can't you tell him how you feel? You're tag team partners. It's as natural as apple pie," Tori's brow laced together in confusion.

Turbo's hazel eyes met Tori's and suddenly she wasn't sure if intensity was such a good thing. It had always been fun before, but now? There was a sadness that she could feel in the pit of her chest, "Because I can't, okay?"

"Turbo…are you still in the closet?"

The intense look in his eyes quickly turned from sadness to an almost horror, as if he were afraid to be found out. His gaze cast to the white sneakers on his feet, "I don't want to talk about this…"

"Oh. My. God," Tori gasped as realization set in for the first time, "You're still in the closet."

"Tori…" his voice was low, almost as if he was delivering an unspoken warning.

She chewed on her lower lip, thinking of how to support the man she considered her older brother, "I'm…you've always been one of my biggest supporters. When I came out, you were there for me. Why won't you let yourself be the same way?"

Tori played with the pink elastic hairband on her wrist as she waited for an answer, remembering how scared she had been to tell Turbo in high school, after their first kiss at prom no less, that she was a lesbian. Even in that moment, Turbo had done nothing but support her. She wondered why he hadn't told her any of this before now. If anything, she assumed it was due to their Midwestern upbringing. His sadness was palpable, head hung, "I just can't…"

She sighed in defeat with a nod of her head, "It's okay, Turbs. It's…I didn't mean to pry…"

He finished wiping down the bench, tossing away the Clorox wipe before turning to Tori and gently placing his hands on her shoulders, "I know, Tor. I know. I just…it's not the time, yeah? Right now, it's cardio with Mags time."

Goro asking the OCEANOGRAPHER to do surgery is absurd but since the one guy who can perform the surgery is currently being held hostage at bomb-point (and presumably every other doc who could've done this was murdered. bc they've done a terrible job keeping their org's staff alive) I suppose it couldn't be helped
