YES YES YES !!!!!!!! whenever he gets insecure hes hit with the "a star has to eat well to be healthy"!!!!! his natural state is NOT skinny. he also definetly has at least a bit of muscle with how much exercise he does !!!!

WHERE TO BEGIN ON THESE TWO…. Get ready for the longest thing you’ve read in your entire life. Ok so in my country timeline for them I like to divide their relationship into Pre 70s and After 70s. After the 70/80s I imagine their relationship is similar to their canon way, very casual n full of brotherly love expressed in healthy ways. PRE 70S ON THE OTHER HAND.

Gilbert loves Ludwig as well, it starts out as a bit of a narcisstic thing considering he built ludwig himself out of corpses, but he genuinely loves Ludwig. Ludwig is his number one priority ALWAYS, Gilbert wasn’t made for tenderness but for ludwig he will try his hardest to be, in a room full of ppl he’ll only have eyes for Ludwig. Anyway, that doesn’t mean he showed his love in a healthy way, or in any way at all. Gilbert was not the best parental figure, he was a product of his time, nationalism n patriarchy, and thought if he wanted ludwig to grow into a big strong manly macho man, he couldn’t be babied so 0 physical n emotional affection for Ludwig. (Also Gilbert DID NOT like Ludwig being around Feliciano… like yea Gilbert liked Feliciano and given the chance would bend him over a desk, but HEY this is Ludwig we’re talking about, he can’t b messing around with non traditionally masculine men…… it might distract him from the things that matter like blood and honour and grease from tanks. Aka Gilbert had a lot of rules for Ludwig that he did not abide by himself, he was a “do as I say, not as I do” type of caregiver).

BUT Gilbert’s lack of affection, save a pat on the shoulder occasionally, meant that Ludwig was super weak mentally. Someone could be a little nice, touch his cheek a little too softly n he would crumble because he was TOUCH STARVED!!! AFFECTION STARVED!!!!!

Anyway the Berlin Wall is put up and they’re separated. Btw i don’t headcanon Prussia as east Germany, I think Ludwig is both east n west, but Gilbert took the role of east Germany so Ivan would take him instead of Ludwig, bc Gilbert didn’t want Ludwig to endure that. Anyway they only meet very few instances, too risky, and it’s still this big cliff between them as a result of Ludwig’s idolisation. Ludwig can’t bring himself to show emotions in front of his brother, he wants to cry, badly, but he won’t let himself so their meetings are brief and awkward because Gilbert is no longer this grand nation Ludwig used to know, he’s beaten down and starved, bruised and bleeding. Anyway, one day, Ludwig cracks and he begins to cry over dinner in Gilbert’s lidl apartment in Moscow… and Gilbert hasn’t seen Ludwig cry since he was a child (save for one time in ww1 they never speak of) so he doesn’t know what to do n just sits there like 😐😐😐uh… u good? Lol. Uhm” but anyway it helps to humanise their relationship a bit, n they open up slowly n after a few more visits, the fall of the wall n everything, they’re like regular, close brothers.
