"Y'know I watched Garfield and Friends the other night, Brendon, and it hit me. Nobody really remembers U.S. Acres. Y'know? You don't see people make creepypasta fanart, there's not gonna be a Lasagna Cat spin-off about Orson Pig and people know it."

Wade Duck (Garfield and Friends/U.S. Acress) for Duckvember 2023
Day 11
Cowardly Duck
Who else? Who else woukd I draw? Honestly I did consider Daffy at first but it's been ages since I drew Wade, and he is the standard for coward ducks out there.
But, sometimes,he is not as much of a coward as he is just constantly afraid. Those are not necessarily the same but often overlapping concepts.

"A fairy story" indeed
LITERALLY 1984 ANIMAL FARM!!!
Aaaaand Orson got traumatised. He didn't deserve this, but the idea was too good to let it go HAH!
Back then, we (=my family) frequently bought the Hungarian Garfield magazine which also featured US Acres (and some non-Jim Davis comics as well but let's stay on topic) and there was a time when I kinda liked US Acres better then Garfield. I guess I started to feel Garfield getting stale as it was - and is, clear in retrospect - THE cash-cow franchise where strips were churn out en masse while US Acres remained the small side fun project for Jim Davis. OK, it might be a stretch and I'm biased as I also grew up on the land sooo... yeah.
And yes, he totally had eyelashes in the earlier strips and I remember the chickens calling him "mom" so I thought for a while that he was a girl (Hungarian has no gendered pronouns and I just didn't know that Orson is a male name). And with his superhero persona AND book fairy persona, he's kinda a gender role defying character, isn't he? Of course, you can argue that some of these things can be explained that he was the runt of the litter so he remained childlike, but...
oh wait. Did I just write an essay about a cartoon pig instead of the paper I'm supposed to? OH SHIIIIII-
(ps.: I know the characters are not perfect, but I drew this when the internet was down, so without reference; and with these conditions, I pretty much think I nailed it. We do NOT talk about the lettering, tho)
(pps.: why is the book so thick for such a short novel? It could be a big font print for the elderly / visually impaired OR maybe I just messed up. Heh)

Character Bases
Development
Lyman’s prototype, Olly, was partially recycled into two other characters: Lucy, who was raised in the wild, and Cedric, who spends all his time in the woods and talks to animals. Rough Sketch reigned him back in and made him more of a hippie character, but the talking to animals remained before mutating into outright aura vision.
From then on he became an archetypal stoner character despite never touching the stuff. His personality subsequently changed as ICT proper went on, going from zen and passive to far more alert and eccentric between his first and second appearances. As a side effect, he’s also a lot weirder than he used to be.
