It's important to have boundaries in life, but sometimes you may feel guilty for enforcing them. Aren't I supposed to be generous? Am I unkind if I say no to this? The question isn't whether to be flexible or firm, but when to be each one. A good life has a healthy mix of selfish boundaries and unselfish giving. You don't have to be all things at all times. Sometimes you pour for others and sometimes you refill your own cup. What does this moment call for?

Judge 5: Deborah And Barak Sings God's Praises And Victories Over Sisera, Jabin And The Canaanites
1 On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang this song:
2 When the princes in Israel take the lead,     when the people willingly offer themselves—     praise the Lord!
3 “Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers!     I, even I, will sing to the Lord;     I will praise the Lord, the God of Israel, in song.
4 “When you, Lord, went out from Seir,     when you marched from the land of Edom, the earth shook, the heavens poured,     the clouds poured down water.
5 The mountains quaked before the Lord, the One of Sinai,     before the Lord, the God of Israel.
6 “In the days of Shamgar son of Anath,     in the days of Jael, the highways were abandoned;     travelers took to winding paths.
7 Villagers in Israel would not fight;     they held back until I, Deborah, arose,     until I arose, a mother in Israel.
8 God chose new leaders     when war came to the city gates, but not a shield or spear was seen     among forty thousand in Israel.
9 My heart is with Israel’s princes,     with the willing volunteers among the people.     Praise the Lord!
10 “You who ride on white donkeys,     sitting on your saddle blankets,     and you who walk along the road, consider
11 the voice of the singers at the watering places.     They recite the victories of the Lord,     the victories of his villagers in Israel.
“Then the people of the Lord     went down to the city gates.
12 ‘Wake up, wake up, Deborah!     Wake up, wake up, break out in song! Arise, Barak!     Take captive your captives, son of Abinoam.’
13 “The remnant of the nobles came down;     the people of the Lord came down to me against the mighty.
14 Some came from Ephraim, whose roots were in Amalek;     Benjamin was with the people who followed you. From Makir captains came down,     from Zebulun those who bear a commander’s staff.
15 The princes of Issachar were with Deborah;     yes, Issachar was with Barak,     sent under his command into the valley. In the districts of Reuben     there was much searching of heart.
16 Why did you stay among the sheep pens     to hear the whistling for the flocks? In the districts of Reuben     there was much searching of heart.
17 Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan.     And Dan, why did he linger by the ships? Asher remained on the coast     and stayed in his coves.
18 The people of Zebulun risked their very lives;     so did Naphtali on the terraced fields.
19 “Kings came, they fought,     the kings of Canaan fought. At Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo,     they took no plunder of silver.
20 From the heavens the stars fought,     from their courses they fought against Sisera.
21 The river Kishon swept them away,     the age-old river, the river Kishon.     March on, my soul; be strong!
22 Then thundered the horses’ hooves—     galloping, galloping go his mighty steeds.
23 ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of the Lord.     ‘Curse its people bitterly, because they did not come to help the Lord,     to help the Lord against the mighty.’
24 “Most blessed of women be Jael,     the wife of Heber the Kenite,     most blessed of tent-dwelling women.
25 He asked for water, and she gave him milk;     in a bowl fit for nobles she brought him curdled milk.
26 Her hand reached for the tent peg,     her right hand for the workman’s hammer. She struck Sisera, she crushed his head,     she shattered and pierced his temple.
27 At her feet he sank,     he fell; there he lay. At her feet he sank, he fell;     where he sank, there he fell—dead.
28 “Through the window peered Sisera’s mother;     behind the lattice she cried out, ‘Why is his chariot so long in coming?     Why is the clatter of his chariots delayed?’
29 The wisest of her ladies answer her;     indeed, she keeps saying to herself,
30 ‘Are they not finding and dividing the spoils:     a woman or two for each man, colorful garments as plunder for Sisera,     colorful garments embroidered, highly embroidered garments for my neck—     all this as plunder?’
31 “So may all your enemies perish, Lord!     But may all who love you be like the sun     when it rises in its strength.”
Then the land had peace forty years.

A Celebration of a Life Well Lived
We’re heading home after having been in Lubbock, TX, specifically to attend the Celebration of Life of my husband’s long-time friend, Doug Moore. Doug’s wife had already prepared us that the memorial service wouldn’t be a time of sadness. It would be a celebration combined with a praise service. Indeed, it was more than that. It was a challenge to us all to live up to our God-given potential. To…

Ponder This
“The total given by the rest of the people was 20,000 darics of gold, 2,000 minas of silver and 67 garments for priests.” Nehemiah 7:72NIV
In case you’re interested, each “darics” equals about a quarter ounce of gold, estimating total value at $2,500,000 in today’s currency. Ponder this. Where did 50,000 of Nebuchadnezzar’s “servants,” (2Chronicles 36:20), get that kind of money, plus silver, plus garments for the priests and 7337 slaves of their own?
Exodus 25:3-7NIV “These are the offerings you are to receive from them: gold, silver and bronze; blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; ram skins dyed red and another type of durable leather; acacia wood; olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece.” Exodus 36:5-6NIV “…said to Moses, “The people are bringing more than enough for doing the work the Lord commanded to be done.” Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” Ponder this— A church having to tell slaves to quit bringing offerings of gold, silver, etc, because they already had been given TOO MUCH. What’s given should be easy to part with for the good of others, for everything comes from God, see Deuteronomy 8:17-18.
Are we enslaved to the government? If we were in the top 10% of the wealthy, we’re probably paying 70% of our income in taxes. Millionaires pay upwards from 38% of their income, while 46% of households pay no taxes at all, (per ‘Getting the Facts Straight on American Tax Burden. obamawhitehouse. archives. gov) Making anything above poverty level made a person a slave to the tax system. Slaves and didn’t even know it.
For my entire walk with Christ, I’ve heard about a day coming in the future for God to bring His servants out of slavery once more. This time of being freed from slavery would be like the others only where the godly will walk away with great wealth to fund the last great revival. Various scriptures pointed to this wealth transfer— Proverbs 13:22ESV “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous.” —Ecclesiastes 2:26ESV “For to the one who pleases Him God has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner He has given the business of gathering and collecting, only to give to one who pleases God…” —Proverbs 28:8ESV “Whoever multiplies his wealth by interest and profit gathers it for him who is generous to the poor.” —Job 27:16-17ESV “Though he heap up silver like dust, and pile up clothing like clay, he may pile it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide the silver.” Ponder this— the wealth spoken of in these scriptures wasn’t to be used selfishly, but for helping others.
Will God lavish His abundance on those who are greedy in heart? Many scriptures show how Israelites had everything they could want and were greedy. Was it because, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” 1Timothy 6:10ESV?
Should God choose to release wealth on me, I’ve already been pondering how my heart reacts— would I try to keep for myself, what belongs to others through giving generously? My heart’s desire is to be an open conduit. Someone God can flow through in whatever manner He chooses. How about you? It’s your choice. You choose.
LET’S PRAY: Heavenly Father You alone know our true hearts. Reveal areas of greed and pride where we might try to take Your glory, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Helping Others... Paul Beverly
I believe when given the opportunity, we should help others.
This life isn’t about what we can do for ourselves or selfishly using others for our own interests. It’s about helping each other get to where we need to be. We all want the same thing, to be happy & accomplish our goals. To eventually raise our children in a good healthy environment. I believe when given the opportunity, we should help others. I have found it makes me feel a lot better when I’m…

Unselfish Hero Whumpee
Hero Whumpee waking up in a hospital, and the first thing they ask? "Are they okay?" in a hoarse whisper. Whumpee doesn't even open their eyes. They don't have the strength. They're in the hospital but first thing they think of is not them, but the others. Did they live?
Caretaker who has been by their side the whole time reassures them, "they're okay, you can rest now."
Whumpee relaxes, finally, that stress has been lifted off their shoulders.
Bonus if they panic when waking up, weakly trying to sit up, and caretaker has to reassure them and gently scold them to make them rest.

Finja x Chase angst? 👀
oh dude their whole "relationship" is basically messed up angst lol (despite me often portraying it as cracky angst)
Tumblr media
I mean, we have some good angst in Chase pursuing First not because he 'loves/cares about' him, but because he selfishly desires him for his power/sees him as a challenge to get into his Fallen Warriors army. And First having to be constantly on alert against Chase, especially when he behaves like a charming honorable warrior, hiding that cunning manipulative side of him behind amused 'harmless' smiles. I would imagine its hard for First to not start to care about Chase (he can be very charming ;) ) to some degree, so there is like this delicious angst in starting to care about someone with whom morally you would never agree with. (very Prof. X vs Magneto vibe imho)
(this also could lead to some interesting spin-off angst opportunity about First being in the Fallen Warriors Army and just...existing in this weird limbo of being a target of Chase's favorable attention, but still essentially being a servant to his Master so thus really unable to trully care about/love this evil man but he still kinda cares after all these years and, like ooooooh baby thats some scrumptious angst possibility)
Tumblr media
Or we can have some angst in form of First, being technically 'moved on'/left only in spirit in this world and Chase, still obsessing over him all these centuries, not even realizing that he is basically pining at this point. Showing up to bother current Ninjas, Ninjanomicon and Spirit of First at every opportunity, but not being able to actually be (in any capacity) with First, besides those very brief reunions. And First, throughout the years, while still being very annoyed about Chase's continuoes presence, also feels... incredibly saddened about this man to some degree. But he still can not falter, for his duty and successors still need him and they take priority, so this weird relationship just continues on.
And like OOOOH BABIES this is just scratching the surface of any possible angst, but these are the ones that are currently circling in my mind (i want to make some comics with these scenarious) so yeah! angst! ;D

Unselfish
I reach my hand out, hoping you would grab it in my attempt to save you and pull you away from your past and put you in a position to look forward to a better future. Im not a proud person but i am a confident one in the intentions i have within my concious, the love i carry in my heart, and the reasons i have to help someone else overcome a struggle or two to help them make it ahead in their life. I do not ask for anything in return because the happiness of others does fulfill me. I've always relied on the success and happiness of others. I really never saw anything wrong with that, and yet I've been told to put myself ahead of others. I believe it will eventually come back to me without asking for it. I also realize i can't make everyone happy, and yet that's the struggle i run into, so i resort to sharing words that can positively impact others. Has it made me vulnerable? Probably. Whether my worst enemy or my best friend, i will have concern about whats wrong with them and do my part to make the situation better cause it matters to me and should to others. I will never judge, criticize, or insult. It's not my place to. I can only learn from everyone and keep going. All these things make me who i am and won't change me. Will it give me hope? Maybe, but it will give others hope and something good to look forward to, and im ok with that...

VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION:
If Gene had a Pokémon nature & characteristic, what would it be? Asking for fun art reasons...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ ID: A screenshot of a list of all Pokemon natures + their affected stat changes and flavor likes/dislikes, and a screenshot of all Pokemon characteristics and their associated IVs. ]
I was sitting on this ask for a while because I wasn't sure whether to judge his actual characteristics or his actual stats/likes/dislikes.
Like, he doesn't exactly have great Defense or HP or Attack, and his Speed is mid. He could be Adamant, but then his Special Attack (which throwing balms/Pokeballs could count as) would be low, or he could be Brave or maybe Modest, but he likes Sweet and Spicy foods. His characteristic could be Strong willed, but he famously doesn't have great defenses.
(What classification IS he, anyways? A glass cannon, maybe? In Miitopia he's a mage and he'd be a Pawmi in any new PMD, definitely a ranged attacker at the very least. And considering how often he's dealing with Lysandre, his Special Attack should be high, I think.)
I was leaning towards Adamant with the characteristic Often lost in thought, but that doesn't make sense since his Sp.A. would be down 10% but also still somehow be the highest stat he has.
Final answer: Hardy + Often lost in thought, OR if we're going for more interesting stats, Modest + Often lost in thought.

But also something so ! about how John Irving, the character with most faith thus most faith to be tested, is the one to find the salvation, the divine providence, the literal manna in the desert, of Koveyook and his party, taking it in with humility and gratitude is just. Irving really did get to see a form of God in the way William Blake wrote it:
“I sought my God and my God I couldn't find; I sought my soul and my soul eluded me; I sought to serve my brother in his need, and I found all three; My God, my soul, and thee.”
