It’s strange for Lilith to think about, but she’s started to enjoy just...being regular. She spent some of her money to redecorate the trailer because she can afford it now and it helps that it doesn’t look so sad. She moved her listening devices out back to fit in a proper desk. She started planting green beans and going on runs. Winter is setting in but it never gets too cold in the desert.

Normalcy can be as good as anything, but Lilith is still drawn to the lab and to the mysteries of this town. Besides, she’s part of the town now. And it’s kind of her fault that things have gotten so bad with the infections. 

“Thanks for coming along, man.” Lilith leads Jared down into the lab. “It’s a little crazy, but I figure you might be able to help?”

“It is crazy, I’ll tell you that.” Jared chuckled, taking it all in. “Feels like a ghost town in here.”

“Yeah, it’s creepy.” Lilith opened the doors to the chemistry machine and took out the plastic baggies of that creepy fruit and spore clusters. “I’ve been trying to make something to like...vaccinate against the spores. First time didn’t work. You have any ideas?”

The two worked late into the night and eventually had made a couple different variations. It did help a lot to have someone who actually knew how these things worked helping out. 

Lilith waited until the next night to start trying out the vaccines. Eventually, one worked. She helped walk the very confused woman back to her place and tried to contain her excitement. Finally, she felt like actual progress was being made.
