Hamas’s Political Leaders Aren’t in Charge
From the comfort of Doha, Hamas’s political leaders have been negotiating the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Others who live in Beirut under the patronage of Hezbollah sporadically brief the press. And yet according to at least four Israeli and Arab officials the key players are Hamas’s military leaders inside the Gaza Strip itself.
Every time there is a communication blackout in Gaza, negotiations for hostage release are set back, a Qatari official aware of the negotiations told Foreign Policy. While the political leadership in exile has a say in the ongoing hostage negotiations, two of the group’s more extremist leaders based in Gaza seem to have an upper hand.
Mohammed Deif, the chief commander of the al-Qassam Brigades, or the military wing of Hamas, and Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’s leader of the Gaza Strip and the man who helped form the brigade in 1991 to oppose the Oslo Accords with Israel, are the architects of Oct. 7 attack, and the top authorities laying down conditions for hostage release. For instance, the demand during negotiations that Israel stop flying its intelligence gathering drones was insisted upon by Hamas so the position of the men holding the hostages wasn’t exposed.
“They show us a united front,’’ an Arab source briefed on the matter said “but like in any war, anywhere, the military wing has more sway.’’ Hugh Lovatt, a senior policy fellow with the Middle East and North Africa Programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), said that, while Hamas still works through consensus, the military leadership is the dominant voice. “The al-Qassam brigade physically holds hostages so they are the ultimate power brokers,’’ he told FP, “but not the only ones.’’
Sinwar, 61, and Deif, 58, were both born in Khan Younis refugee camp in southern Gaza, the current headquarters of Hamas according to former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. “They are probably hiding in Khan Younis and that’s likely where the bulk of hostages are held,’’ Eran Lerman, Israel’s deputy national security advisor between 2006 and 2015, told FP over the phone.
“With all due respect to the fat cats in Qatar, these are the guys who are calling the shots,’’ on hostage release. “These are very dangerous men,’’ he added pointing to suicide bombings and abductions carried out in Israel on the orders of Sinwar and Deif, both of whom have been designated as global terrorists by the United States.
There are many questions around the men who patiently schemed and planned the attack for at least two years. A look into their past, and of the organization they represent, offers an insight into their motivation and aims, and perhaps even explains the specific brutality displayed on Oct. 7.
An offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas was formed after the outbreak of the first intifada, or uprising, in 1987 and never recognized the existence of Israel. It was opposed to peace talks and violently pushed out Fatah from Gaza in 2007, albeit after winning an election. Over the years some of Hamas’s senior leaders were chased out of Gaza or chose to live elsewhere but soon enough they became unacceptable to their Arab hosts.
In 1999, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan suspected Hamas of fomenting trouble and kicked them out. They moved to Syria next. But that didn’t last. In 2012, the group sided with Syrian rebels in the civil war and fell out of favor with the autocratic Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Since then, Doha has been the hub of the political leadership and hosts Ismail Haniyeh, the chairman of Hamas’s political bureau, and senior leader Khaled Mashal, among others. Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy of the political bureau, and the group’s spokesperson Osama Hamdan, reside in Beirut. All these years while the leadership in exile spent its days comfortably, or luxuriously, depending on where they are, Sinwar and Deif roughed it out on the ground, often under the ground, to escape Israeli missiles.
Deif is the nom de guerre of Mohammed al-Masri, who has escaped seven assassination attempts by the Israel Defense Forces, which has earned him the reputation of local hero. “Put the sword before the sword, we are the men of Mohammed Deif,’’ is a popular protest slogan in occupied territories, while the man himself is often described as “the cat with nine lives.’’
When asked why Israeli spies and forces have repeatedly failed in finding Deif, IDF spokesman Jonathan Conricus told FP, “because he is very careful, very disciplined, willing to sacrifice comfort, family and pleasantries of life.’’ Lerman, however, attributed his survival to “sheer luck.’’ Lerman said that once Deif “crawled out of a bombed building,’’ and another time the IDF had to abandon the operation to assassinate him out of the fear of causing too much collateral damage, “another very lucky escape.’’
His 7-month-old son, 3-year-old daughter, and wife, however, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in 2014. Some experts believe that to some extent Deif is formed by his personal experiences, that led him to plan an attack that involved killing anyone who came in the way, including children.
“He was the brain behind the (Oct. 7) attack, in cooperation and dialogue with Sinwar,’’ Lovatt of the ECFR said. “Very little is known about him so there is a risk of overanalyzing but what we do know is that he is a hardliner and has personally suffered tremendously in the past.’’ Deif lost his family and some of his limbs were reportedly amputated in Israeli strikes. “That personal history has affected how he views the course of Palestinian liberation and clearly fed into the way how he approached October 7.’’
Deif is the most secretive leader of the organization with just three known photos: In one he is masked, another is from ages ago when he was in his 20s, and the third is a silhouette that was last seen on a Hamas channel shortly after the attack when his audio message was aired. “If you have a gun, get it out,’’ he said in the audio recording. “This is the time to use it. Get out with trucks, cars, axes. Today the best and most honorable history starts.”
Thus far, Deif has failed in provoking an all-out Palestinian uprising and the response from Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthis in Yemen has been ceremonial, smashing any plans to turn this into a regional war. But he has succeeded in redefining Hamas, not a governing body responsible for the welfare of Gazans but an armed revolutionary force dedicated to fighting Israel.
According to a survey conducted in Gaza by Arab Barometer, a research network, days before the attack as many as 75 percent respondents said they ran out of food over the last 30 days and didn’t have enough money to purchase more. Two years ago, 51 percent made the same claim. But as Gaza’s people were going hungry, Deif and Sinwar only pretended to be concerned. They quietly trained their men and planned the attack while fooling the Israeli authorities that they had no appetite for war and were, instead, concerned about Gaza’s economic issues.
“Sinwar sat in Israeli jails for years. He knew us from the inside,’’ Lerman said. “He misled us and hinted he was willing to work out a relationship, a quid pro quo, goods for Gaza and working permits’’ for the people of Gaza to work inside Israel.
Sinwar was among the 1,027 Palestinian prisoners released in exchange for one Israeli soldier in 2011. That experience perhaps convinced him that taking Israeli hostages was the surest way of seeking a prisoner swap. Israel has agreed to release three Palestinian prisoners for every hostage abducted in the October attack, and experts believe the return of Palestinians to their homes all over the occupied territories will earn Deif, Sinwar and the al-Qassam Brigades more fans. Arab officials believe large-scale killings in Gaza are likely to have the same effect.
“In the next 10 years, the children orphaned in this conflict are not going to be pacifists,’’ an Arab official told FP on the condition of anonymity. “With every generation we see Hamas’s leaders are getting more extremist. Khaled Mashal was a moderate, Haniyeh is more extreme, Sinwar and Deif are even more extreme. As long as we are in a bad cycle on the ground this can be expected. The only way to combat this is to provide real solutions, right now there is none.’’
The survey by Arab Barometer found that a majority of the people in Gaza were frustrated with Hamas’s ineffective governance and preferred a two-state solution. Forty-four percent said they had no trust in Hamas at all, however, the group added that according to its research, every time Israel cracks down on Gaza there is an upswing in Hamas’s appeal.
The long-term impact of the attack on the Palestinian cause remains unclear, but some Palestinians feel it has brought Palestine back into news and made the world pay attention. Ali Jarbawi, a former minister of the Palestinian Authority, said the world can no longer ignore the Palestinian struggle. “I ask you, who was talking about the Palestinian freedom before the attack?’’ No one. Are we talking about it now? Why are the Americans talking about the two-state solution now?’’
But for many others, particularly in the West, the brutality of Hamas’s attack has made it hard for them to see the group as a resistance force or even a militant group. When it barged in people’s bedrooms and shot them dead it resembled more as a terrorist organization. That too is the legacy of Sinwar and Deif, the duo that the IDF has vowed to find and kill, but not just them.
“All Hamas leaders, inside and outside Gaza, are dead men walking,’’ Conricus, the IDF spokesman, added with an air of confidence. “Either we will get our hands on them or our missiles will find them, wherever they are,’’ he said, alluding to assassinations on foreign soil that has historically earned Mossad its reputation. “It is just a matter of time.’’

$140M upgrade of Cotton Bowl sets stage for iconic Dallas venue's next chapter
The leaders driving $140 million in renovations at the Cotton Bowl see it as a way to further elevate Dallas' position in the global sports pantheon.
The widely touted upgrades will include the addition of 14 escalators, create new premium seating and expand the press area.
They will also increase concession stands and restrooms, double the main concourse size on the west side of the facility and triple the upper west concourse to feature amenities such as two outdoor terraces with views of downtown Dallas.
Work started in March and is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2025 State Fair of Texas, which occurs each fall, according to the Dallas Park and Recreation Department.
A second phase focused on the east side of the venue is also in the offing, although that project would likely not be done until late 2034.
The Dallas-Fort Worth area is widely recognized as a pro sports mecca.
Upgrades to the Cotton Bowl, located at Fair Park in South Dallas, are driven in part by recognition that investment is needed to maintain that reputation.
Tumblr media
Bryan Trubey, senior principal at architecture firm Overland Partners Inc., said the $140 million project "is a byproduct of the momentum created" years ago by failed efforts to secure the 2024 Olympics and to convince the Dallas Cowboys to move to Fair Park.
"Sometimes you learn from those opportunities passing you by," said Trubey, whose team is leading the design of the Cotton Bowl refresh.
And the project could have a significant impact on the surrounding South Dallas neighborhood, which has historically been overlooked by businesses.
The Cotton Bowl renovations are just part of a $300 million investment in city-owned Fair Park, the largest in the fairgrounds' 137-year history.
With construction well underway, Dallas Business Journal reached out to Overland Partners to learn more about what can be expected from the updates.
The firm's goal with the design was to preserve and maintain the stadium's historic character — it dates back to 1930s and was the site of many classic college football games in the '40s and beyond while incorporating modern infrastructure and technology to ensure for a safe, comfortable and fun fan experience.
The biggest challenges have included developing a plan to increase the footprint of the site without damaging its historic exterior and also piecing together all of the vintage parts of the complex.
"It's a very easy analogy to think about if you've ever renovated a house, you just don't know all the stuff you're going to find that’s wrong until you start taking a wall down," said Trubey, who heads Overland Partners' Dallas office.
"[This is] a large-scale version of that, because parts of the Cotton Bowl are from the 1920s, 1948, 1992 or 2006. It’s like jigsaw puzzle."
Overland Partners is leading the design team that also includes McAfee3 Architects, Modus and Norman Alston Architects.
AECOM was tapped as program manager for overall Fair Park capital projects.
Established in 1987, Overland has offices in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, New York, Denver and Tokyo and overall is involved in about 30 to 40 projects ranging from roughly 10 acres to a few hundred acres, a little more than half of which are located in the state.
The company has 122 total employees and 36 staff members currently working in its Dallas office.
To be within walking distance of Fair Park and closer to one of its biggest clients, the City of Dallas, the firm in January moved its Dallas office to a 10,000-square-foot space in the Cedars.
The site of the new office has flexibility to potentially be redeveloped into a larger property in the future if needed and is also near another project the firm is involved with: creating a larger sanctuary space for Upperroom, a non-denominational church relocating from the Design District.
"We felt it was important to put our money where our mouth is and be one of the people to take a step out, go into an area, claim it for the city [and] have faith about its potential," said Bob Shemwell, senior principal at Overland.
"Our brand language is that we unlock the embedded potential. One of the things that the Dallas team has been absolutely clear about is wanting to unlock the potential in South Dallas. It was so fitting that the very first project we got was the Upperroom and then the Cotton Bowl. … Those [projects are] a lot of velocity and change, and it's going to set the tone for a lot of productive change for an area that needs love desperately."
A recent win for the rejuvenation of the Cotton Bowl came in May when it was revealed that Dallas Trinity FC, a new women’s professional soccer club, would play at the stadium.
The team has secured up to $592,000 in incentives from the City of Dallas for two years, with the option for a third.

Top-down causation is 'real'
Top-down causation is a concept that challenges the simplistic view of causality flowing only 'upward' from the level of elementary physical processes to the macroscopic world. It suggests that higher levels in a hierarchical system can exert an actual influence on and control the behavior of lower levels. This idea is not merely a philosophical abstraction but is observable and operational in various complex systems, ranging from neural networks to social organizations.
For the scientifically inclined, Deep Belief Networks (DBNs) offer a clear illustration of top-down causation. DBNs are layered structures in machine learning where higher levels of abstraction can influence lower levels. By setting the higher levels to fixed values—essentially clamping them to represent specific abstract categories—the lower levels then generate or 'dream' configurations that align with these higher-level settings. This is a direct demonstration of how top-level decisions or states can dictate the operations at a more granular level, guiding the system towards a coherent function that reflects the higher-level input.
In biological organisms, the principle of top-down causation is evident through the central nervous system's interaction with the body. The brain, receiving and processing vast amounts of sensory data from the body, makes decisions and sends signals back down to effect changes. For instance, the decision to move an arm starts as a high-level abstract intention in the mind, which is then translated into a series of coordinated neural and muscular actions. Here, the causality flows from the conceptual (the desire to move) to the physical (the act of moving).
Similarly, the process of architectural design demonstrates the tangible effects of top-down causation. An architect, through mental efforts alone, constructs a detailed image of a new house, visualizing every room, façade, and structural element in the mind. This mental construction then serves as a blueprint which guides the actions of a construction team. As the team follows these plans, the once purely mental conception of the architect materializes into a physical building. This sequence not only highlights the causal power of mental constructs over physical forms but also showcases the literal foundation that ideas can build in the physical world.
The structure of societies and companies further exemplifies top-down causation. In these systems, policies or decisions made at the upper echelons of management or government can shape the behaviors and operations at the ground level. For example, a corporate strategy devised by senior management dictates the day-to-day activities and priorities of every department. Similarly, laws and regulations crafted by a government direct how individuals and lower administrative bodies behave and operate within a country.
Recognizing top-down causation allows us to understand that higher-level structures and processes are not mere byproducts of lower-level interactions but are active agents in their own right that can dictate and shape lower-level phenomena. This understanding is crucial not only in fields like neuroscience and artificial intelligence but also in organizational theory and governance.
The acknowledgment of top-down causation shifts our perspective from a purely bottom-up mechanistic view of the universe to a more nuanced, interconnected model where causality is bidirectional. It supports a holistic view where both upward and downward influences are vital, reflecting a complex reality where multiple causality levels coexist and interact.

Francisca Pattipilohy
Francisca Pattipilohy was born in 1926, and she was technically royalty. Indonesia has often been governed by numerous small kingdoms (and some large kingdoms), and her family were members of the upper class on Ambon, a little island 1,500 miles northeast of Jakarta. Those aristocracies were often granted special privileges within the Dutch colonial structure, Her father chose to forgo the special privileges given to those aristocracies by the Dutch colonial structure and make his life as an architect in the capital, which was then called Batavia. . He did so well as an architect that Francisca was able to attend colonial school with Dutch children, however most things in Indonesia were segregated, preventing her from many activities. In 1942, when she was sixteen, the Japanese arrived. Under Emperor Hirohito, the Japanese had become an aggressive imperialist power allied with the Nazis, and were sweeping through much of Southeast Asia, setting up occupation governments. At first, some Indonesians welcomed them, including the leaders of the country’s small independence movement, which had been bubbling up for decades. The thinking went, at least the Japanese were Asians . Their victory had proved whites were not invincible, and they might treat locals better than the Dutch had. The day after their invasion, Francisca’s father came home and announced to the family, “They are our liberators.” However this was an illusion. Just days later, the family was going for a walk when a Japanese guard nearby started screaming at her father. He, of course, didn’t understand Japanese, and he didn’t know he was supposed to bow so he didn’t. The guard came up to him and struck him hard, on the face, in front of his whole family. “After that, we hated the Japanese,” Francisca would later say. “We knew their true purpose.” Others got it much worse. By the thousands, Indonesian women were forced into sexual slavery, made to work as “comfort women” for the occupying Japanese troops. The Dutch were put into concentration camps. Francisca was put into a different school. The new school was different for two reasons. First, she was considered equal to the other students. Second, she learned to speak Bahasa Indonesia, which means “the Indonesian language,” a version of Malay that is now Indonesia’s official tongue. Francisca had always excelled at language, but here she was starting from zero. And she wasn’t the only one. Only a small minority of Indonesians spoke it as their first language. The “official language” of Indonesia would always be a complicated affair since there are hundreds of languages spoken across their very diverse islands. Soon after the Japanese left in 1945, a man named Sukarno declared independence. Not long after the speech, just as the French did in Indochina, the Dutch came back, attempting to reassert colonial rule and they were brutal. As the Japanese had, the Dutch employed mass violence to suppress support for the new republic. The independence leaders, a mix of nationalists, leftists, and Islamic groups, hopped around the archipelago, making alliances with local kingdoms and mounting resistance.
In the middle of all this, in 1947, Francisca went to Holland to study in the small university town of Leiden. She attended the Royal Institute of Eastern Countries, set up to study European colonial possessions. Right away, she got involved in the Indonesian student organization, as almost everyone did. And right away, she met a man named Zain, five years her senior. She didn’t like him at first. She had considered herself a feminist from an early age, and had no intention of marrying, ever. She had seen that even the smartest, best-educated women in the Dutch East Indies never got to put to use all the wonderful things that they learned once they got married. She wanted to work. But then she got to know him. They’d spend hours and hours talking, about history, and the anticolonial struggle, and the ways her childhood had been unjust, twisted by European domination. How they could fight to make things right. For Francisca and Zain, who began dating in earnest in the late 1940s, the colonial independence struggle was intimately tied to left-wing politics. So she, a wholehearted supporter of Indonesian freedom, fell naturally into socialist circles, however while she had heard about socialism she was not interested in ideological battles. In 1950, she and Zain had to sneak off to Prague to get married, because Dutch authorities would have required her to get her father’s permission, and he was still withholding it. By that time, Zain knew English, Indonesian, Dutch, and Batak (the language native to his family on the island of Sumatra), and Francisca was now fluent in German, French, Indonesian, Dutch, and English on top of a bit of Bahasa Ambon. This would be exceptionally helpful for them since due to Dutch oppression only 5 percent of the Indonesian population could read and write. So when they returned, Francesca got a job as a librarian which she greatly enjoyed, meanwhile Zain started working in journalism, and got a job at a paper called Harian Rakyat, or The People’s Daily as a translator so that he could write stories on foreign affairs. This was the newspaper run by the Indonesian Communist Party, the PKI. It was a great job for Zain to land, and Francisca was very happy for him. There was nothing strange about working for a communist paper at that time, as far as she was concerned. Communism was considered normal.

The text & action:
Scorpius and Albus enter the living room with piles of documents in their hands. The night is quiet but some shouts can be heard from a distance.
Scorpius
So, I think a simple Confringo.
Scorpius states confidentially.
Albus
Definitely not.
He angrily slams the documents on the table. Beat.
For something like this you need Expulso.
Scorpius
Expulso?
Now Scorpius slams his part of documents on the table.
Expulso and we’ll be clearing bits of Time-Turner from this owlery for days.
Albus
Bombarda?
Albus says it uncovering a gun in his pants for a moment.
Scorpius
And wake up everyone in Hogwarts?
Beat. He quiets down and continues in a much calmer voice.
Maybe Stupefy. They were originally destroyed using Stupefy…
Albus
Exactly, it’s been done before – let’s do something new, something fun.
In rage he “crazy” smiles at the last words.
Scorpius
Fun?
Scorpius becomes more and more irritated by the simple-mindedness of his colleague.
Look, many wizards overlook the importance of choosing the right spell but this really matters. I think it’s a much-underestimated part of modern witchcraft.
Delphi enters the room without anyone noticing.
Delphi
With a friendly contempt, giggling.
‘A much-underestimated part of modern witchcraft’ – you two are the greatest, you know that?
Scorpius looks up surprised to see Delphi has emerged behind him.
Scorpius
Wow. You’re… um… what are you doing here?
Albus
With irony in his voice:
It felt important to send an owl – let her know what we’re doing – you know?
Scorpius looks at his friends accusingly.
This concerns her too.
Scorpius thinks, and then nods, accepting this.
Delphi
What concerns me? What’s this about?
Albus points at the documents on the table.
Albus
We need to destroy the Time-Turner. The things Scorpius saw after the second task… I’m so sorry. We can’t risk going back again. We can’t save your cousin.
Delphi looks at the pile of files and then at them both.
Delphi
Complains irritated:
Your owl said so little…
Albus
Imagine the worst possible world, and then double it. People being tortured – dementors everywhere – a despotic Voldemort – my dad dead, me never born, the worlds surrounded by Dark Magic. We just – we can’t allow that to happen.
Delphi hesitates. Then her face breaks.
Delphi
Voldemort ruled? He was alive?
Scorpius
He ruled everything. It was terrible.
Delphi
Because of what we did?
Scorpius
Humiliating Cedric turned him into a very angry young man and then he became a Death Eater and – and – it all went wrong. Really wrong.
Delphi looks at Scorpius’s face carefully. Her face sinks.
Delphi
A Death Eater?
Scorpius
And a murderer. He killed Professor Longbottom.
Delphi
Impatiently:
Then – of course – we need to destroy it.
Albus
Surprised:
You understand?
Delphi
I’ll go further than that – I’ll say Cedric would have understood. We’ll destroy it together, and then we’ll go to my uncle. Explain the situation.
Albus
Thank you.
Delphi smiles at them sadly, and then takes the documents from the table. She looks at them and her expression changes slightly
Oh, nice mark.
Delphi
What?
Delphi’s suit has loosened. A crown witness tattoo is visible on the back of her neck.
Albus
Curiously:
On your back. I hadn’t noticed it before. The wings. It that what the Muggles call a tattoo?
Delphi
Oh. Yes. Well, it’s an Augurey.
Scorpius
An Augurey?
Delphi
Haven’t you met them in Care of Magical Creatures? They’re sinister looking black birds that cry when rain’s coming Wizards used to believe that the Augurey’s cry foretold death. When I was growing up, my guardian kept one in a cage.
Scorpius
Your… guardian?
Delphi looks at Scorpius. Now that she has the Documents she’s enjoying the game.
Delphi
With visible disregard and arrogance:
She used to say it was crying because it could see I was going to come to a sticky end. She didn’t like me much. Euphemia Rowle… she only took me in for the gold.
Albus
Why would you want a tattoo of her bird, then?
Delphi
It reminds me that my future is mine to make.
Albus
Albus in a sudden childish interest:
Cool. I might get an Augurey tattoo.
Beat.
Scorpius
The Rowles were pretty extreme Death Eaters.
A thousand thoughts inside Scorpius’s head. Albus coming to his mind and getting annoyed with the hold up.
Albus
Come on, let’s get destroying… Confringo? Stupefy? Bombarda? Which would you use?
Scorpius
Give it back. Give us the Time-Turner.
Delphi
With annoyance and superiority:
What?
Albus
Yelling at Scorpius:
Scorpius? What are you doing?
Scorpius
Remaining calm:
I don’t believe you ever were ill. Why didn’t you come to Hogwarts? Why are you here now?
Delphi
I’m trying to bring my cousin back!
Scorpius
Realizing what the situation is. A bit worried, strongly accenting every “you”:
They called you the Augurey. In – the other world – they called you the Augurey.
A slow smile grows on Delphi’s face.
Delphi
The Augurey? I rather like that.
Albus
Confused:
Delphi?
She is too quick. Taking out her weapon, she repels Scorpius. The papers fall down on the ground next to her as they get into a fight. And she is far stronger – Scorpius tries to keep her back, but she quickly overpowers him. She shoots him at the right bark. Scorpius roars from pain.
Delphi
Shouts mockingly:
Fulgari!
Scorpius
Concerned, despite the pain hastens his friend:
Albus. Run.
Albus looks around, bewildered. Starts to run. Delphi shoots again aiming at the same spot. Albus fall to the floor nearby his colleague. More grunting can be heard.
Delphi
Arrogantly, with satisfaction:
Fulgari!
And that is the first spell I’ve had to use on you. I thought I’d have to use plenty more. But you’re far easier to control than Amos – children, particularly male children, are so naturally pliant, aren’t they? Now, let’s sort this mess out once and for all…
Albus
Fighting the pain, asks desperately:
But why? But what? But who are you?
Delphi
In rage and madness shouts:
Albus. I am the new past.
She takes his gun and throws it out the window breaking it.
I am the new future.
She does the same with Scorpius’s’ gun.
I am the answer this world has been looking for.
She picks up the documents and leaves the villa.
The TEAM description:
Tension – Tension in the scene is builds as the tension between the characters builds up. It is build under the influence of the mysterious atmosphere surrounding the scene as the audience does not clearly know what is the problem and how important are the documents held by the characters. The tension reaches its climax as Delphi turns out to be a traitor.
Emotion – For the characters it is at first relief as they are in possession of the important documents and are able to destroy them. Then, they feel slightly happy that Delphi showed up. With Delphi’s arrival the tension builds up gradually, creating a feeling of suspense and mystery. Then, when the tension reaches its climax the scene is overwhelmed with the feeling of disbelief, anger and shock.
Atmosphere – Because of the lack of clear introduction the atmosphere is constantly mysterious. At first the mysteriousness is accompanied by a slightly relaxed atmosphere which is quickly substituted by nervous an chaotic energy.
Meaning – The scene is an altered impression of the creation of a crown witness position. Rise of this law left a huge impact on the mentality of Polish gangs as well as safety of potential witnesses and citizens. The scene is supposed to give a transformed insight into the creation of the position, leaving a sense of familiarity (as many people watched “Jak zostałem gangsterem”).

imperial life (sorta)
life within the empire is very structured. it’s a society where everyone Knows Their Place and what they’re supposed to be doing.
for ex. there is a certain “life schedule” that imperial citizens are expected to adhere to.
ages:
0-5, raised by family as infants. sent to daycare during toddler years.
5-10, primary school. begin basic education.
10-15, junior school. continue education.
15-20, senior school. start some training alongside education.
20-25/30, MANDATORY SERVICE TIME.
25/30+, marriage and having children encouraged and you can live your life.
now after an individual completes their mandatory time actively serving, they can either continue to serve or return to other jobs and functions in the empire.
so you can have someone who was a foot soldier or sniper during their service time, but then return to “civilian” life as a florist or school teacher.
the sith follow a similar “life schedule”.
ages:
0-5, raised by family and like minded peer groups.
5-10, primary academy. basic training and education.
10-15, secondary academy. continued training and education.
15-20, preparatory academy. continued training and education.
20+, sith academy (proper) and from there, it depends on the individual sith’s master and rank.
tho the purebloods have a tendency to marry their children off after at the age of 20 (or young 20s) in hopes of procuring grandchildren (and therefore, securing family legacies) before anything... unfortunate happens.
another aspect of imperial life that is deeply entrenched within the civilization but never talked about too openly is the caste system.
everyone in the empire, sith or slave, is shoved into one of these castes. it is possible to move UP and DOWN. moving upward requires marrying someone of a higher caste, but ppl usually (tho not always!) stick to and marry within their own castes. moving down tends involves committing a crime and being punished for it, or disownment from family.
there are certain advantages of being a part of upper castes. which include, but are not limited to:
wider access on the holonet
higher pay
more options for housing
priority healthcare
less restrictions on travel
etc.
the two main groups the castes fall into are sith and imperial. obvs the sith castes are above the imperial ones.
castes among the sith are categorized by “blood purity” and family lineages. the older, purer bloodlines that can trace their roots to korriban are seen above sith who might not have such a heritage.
pureblood, greater families
pureblood, lesser families
human, greater families (usually have some pureblood family members as well)
human, lesser families (usually all human)
human, common (usually an individual that comes from a non-sith background that found sensitivity in the force)
alien
imperial castes on the other hand are categorized by “occupation” rather than bloodlines.
officers. self explanatory. within this caste the officers follow the rank order. ie, moff > captain.
healers. ppl who can help and heal others. doctors, psychiatrists, therapists, etc.
scholars. those who spend their time studying, researching, or teaching. scientists, philosophers, lawyers, professors, etc.
protectors. internal security of the empire. police type, firefighters, paramedics, emergency responders, imperial intelligence, etc.
farmers. self explanatory, also includes breeders (for fancy pets and vanity animals).
crafters. for those who MAKE or design things. artists, architects, engineers, cooks, tailors, etc.
traders. folks who buy and sell things or deal with money frequently. business people, vendors, bank folk, accountants etc.
entertainers. mostly performers of some type. actors, musicians, athletes, sex workers, etc.
cleaners. those who deal with trash or bodies. janitors, butchers, housekeepers, manicurists, waste management, groomers, etc.
casteless. ironically named, but still technically a caste. includes non citizens that may be visiting or traveling through, new imperial citizens, or disowned (usually non force sensitive) sith.
slaves. self explanatory.
in the old, old sith empire (pre arrival of exiles), the sith also had a ruler and priest caste. it can be argued that the two were simply merged into the modern sith grouping and all of their castes within.
as far as any that might be lawmakers and where they’d fit in. that’d be the dark council with some occasional input from very high ranking officers like the grand moff.
so in theory(!), anyone can move up or down the caste ladder. in reality it’s very rare and ppl are often born into one caste and simply live their life within its confines and die. but ppl across the entire caste system can and do work together frequently.
an ex is the sw and crew.
Tumblr media
akrona is not only sith, but a pureblood from a greater family. making her one of the most privileged and (potentially) influential ppl in the empire.
quinn comes from a family of officers and they’ve all been at the relative top of imperial society for generations. even after his court martial he’s considered to be very lucky to have remained in the same caste.
Tumblr media
pierce actually comes from farmers but managed to be promoted to an officer during his time in service. but since he wasn’t born into it, quinn some officers have an obvious bias against him for his position.
vette, being a freed slave is casteless. tho thx to having a sith benefactor and friend, she can get away with a lot more than others within her same social standing.
some notes under the read more since i KNOW you ppl don’t go to the op to read my darn tags! >,< lol
so... i know. i KNOW i didn’t list literally every single conceivable job that exist or could exist. you’ll have to excuse me on that lol.
and in case it wasn’t obvious, yes, i used my sw and my own hcs for the crew. NO, i am NOT saying that quinn dislikes pierce ONLY bc of “lower caste upbringing”. just that it’s one of many factors of tension between the two.
and regardless of caste, every citizen* in the empire is guaranteed food, shelter, water, and medical care. but obvs those in the upper castes would be eating the fanciest~ of feasts in their big ass floating mansions while the lower castes live off of ration bars and street food while living in small, utilitarian apartments. *does not include slaves since they are technically not citizens.
i am once again here to remind you that the empire is NOT
a democracy
capitalist
or a utopia
(but if for some reason you wanna make your empire all those things, go for it. i ain’t stopping you lol.)
but why castes?
bc it was an aspect of the ancient sith In Canon and thought i’d tinker with the concept.
Tumblr media
lastly! i stfg...
IF YOU THINK ME MAKING A HC/WORLDBUILDING POST REFLECTS UPON MY MORALITY OR HOW I THINK A SOCIETY SHOULD BE RUN...
YOU HAVE NEXT LVL BRAIN ROT.
also, yes, you can use any/all concepts in whatever way you see fit if you want. you can also, ignore the whole thing!

His Good Sweater: Chapter 12
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Winding down from the frenzy of the last chapter... Thanks to @acollectionofficsandshit for being my bestie and beta reading! This would have never happened without her ❤
Word Count: 5.9k
Recommended song: "I Don't Care" by Fall Out Boy
“Mon amour, wake up.”
Pierre’s sleep-heavy voice rouses you from the best sleep you’d had in a long time. You’d fallen asleep to the sounds of his even breathing under the soothing touch of his thumb tracing patterns on your side.
You crack your eyes open to see him silhouetted by the white light of the waning moon, his bare chest left uncovered by the blanket slung low over his hips. The sight alone has your mind instantly jumping into overdrive, fighting the need to sleep with the need to continue ogling the bare skin a foot from your face.
“I let you sleep as long as I could,” he says softly, reaching behind him for his phone. “We have to be on the M1 in about half an hour.”
“Mmmph,” you groan, snuggling back under the blanket and closer to him, chasing the warmth radiating from him. “The sun isn’t even out.”
His chuckle shakes the bed. “I figured you would say that which is why I made you breakfast and picked out your clothes. All you have to do is brush your teeth and get dressed.”
You hum appreciatively and press a kiss to his bare sternum. “Is this how you’re going out today? Because I won’t complain but you might cause a few heart attacks.” A kiss to your temple is a small reward for your comment, as well as a concession.
"Don't worry, this is reserved only for you." He stretches an arm above his head, grinning when your eyes immediately are drawn to the way the muscles ripple and pull under his skin. You stare shamelessly as he flexes a little for your benefit, the action going straight to your head.
"As it should be." You bite your lip and let your fingertips dance over his chest, memorizing the way it rises and falls so predictably with each deep breath. Against your better judgement you trail kisses up over his pectoral and spot them along his shoulder, dragging another light chuckle from him.
"My love," he warns, voice tinted with mischief, "we don't have time."
"Oh I think we do." You continue your path over his collarbone and to the hollow of his throat. Taking advantage of his biggest weakness, you flick your tongue over his prominent adam’s apple. The move has his hand engulfing your upper arm, giving you a warning squeeze.
"As wonderful as this is" -he sucks in a sharp breath when your teeth graze his neck- "if I'm late Horner will kill me."
"What's new?" You say, but draw back. The mere mention of his name made you see red and shattered the moment. "Do you really want to go back to Red Bull after how they treated you?"
"No," he admits, slipping an arm around you and tugging you up and into a sitting position, taking advantage of the momentary lapse of lust. "But if I want a shot with a top team when my contract is up, I don’t have much choice."
"Where do you see yourself going?"
Pierre studies you as you slip into the clothes he had selected for you. Nothing fancy, just an AlphaTauri branded navy and white hoodie and some light wash jeans. You don't miss the way his lips twitch upward when you notice it's his hoodie, his last name embroidered in block font on the cuff a dead giveaway even if the hoodie hadn't been ridiculously oversized on you.
Cheeky bastard.
"I think I would look good in sunshine yellow," he remarks. You make a show of looking him up and down under the pretense of imagining him in a Renault branded hoodie or their signature black race suit. Truthfully it was just another excuse to drink him in like the fine wine he was and recall how he had tasted on your tongue last night.
He would look good in any color on the grid but you don't grant him the satisfaction of pointing that out. Instead, you lean forward to toy with the waistband of the jeans he had hastily buttoned seconds earlier. "You and Daniel get along just fine." You snag him by the belt loops and yank him forward back onto the bed. "I think you should go to McLaren.”
“I’d still look good in orange.”
You wind your fingers under his waistband. “I think you’d look best wearing nothing at all, actually.”
“The time,” Pierre protests lightly when you pop open the button and undo the zipper. He groans when you yank the denim down around his thighs, finally submitting to your touch and lacing his fingers in your hair. Your lips explore the planes of his abdomen, any and all thoughts of speed abandoned on your end. "If you don't hurry up we're gonna be late."
"Maybe you'll just have to drive fast. I hear you’re good at that."
**********
"So how is it that they got your car all the way to London?"
"It's got its own private jet."
You roll your eyes and smack the hand resting on your thigh. His response is a light squeeze and a chuckle before he continues, "They've got a few spares they keep around for when drivers come to town. I can't be seen in a Mini or it would cause a scandal."
"Oh yes it would be quite tragic." His hand charts a dangerous path along your thigh. He knows exactly what he's doing as he slots a thumb between your legs and presses it tight to the apex of your thighs.
You snap your knees shut, effectively trapping his hand "Now you're just being cruel."
"Only dishing out what you did this morning," he points out and wiggles his hand free to rest on your knee instead. The message was clear: he had shaken you well enough for his liking and was perfectly content to leave you frustrated until he could get you home.
“So catch me up on what I’ve missed,” you say, determined to distract yourself from Pierre’s slight teasing. “What’s new in the life of the rising star in Formula 1?”
“Rising star,” Pierre mumbles and rolls his eyes. “Not yet, my love. Getting there, but not yet.”
“Please, you’re too modest. Last night when you fell asleep- you were out like a light as soon as your head hit the pillow, don't give me that look!” Pierre picks his jaw up off the floor and shakes his head as you continue, “I read plenty of articles that called you the next big thing, right up there with Max.”
The comparison didn't seem to sit right with him. He shifts in his seat, rolling words over on his tongue. “I’m sure you’re caught up then. I haven’t done anything really besides train and race.”
“I did notice you’ve beefed up a bit.”
“Yet another reason to thank Pyry.”
“At this point I should send him a fruit basket for his trouble.”
“Maybe you should.” Pierre grins, hand leaving your thigh for a split second to upshift. “What about you? How’s year four treating you?”
“Ugh, don’t get me started,” you groan. “My senior project is already killing me and I’ve only just started it. We have to design a building from the ground up- I mean I like architecture but I’m trying to be an engineer, not an architect. I dunno why I have to be the one to design a building! At this point it’s just a brick box.”
“Sounds challenging,” Pierre notes, flooring it when he merges onto the highway. Though the speed makes your stomach flip, you don’t miss a beat.
“My team doesn’t do much either, I’ve been doing most of it. I could rant for hours about it.”
Pierre glances at the clock, then back to you. The blue of his eyes is blocked by his signature purple tinted sunglasses, shielding them from the rising sun that casts him in a warm orange glow. “Humor me. We’ve got time.”
The hour and a half drive was by no means dull with Pierre's teasing touches and endless string of questioning along the way. He asked after every aspect of your life that had transpired in the last four months, only stopping you once in a while to interject with an opinion or anecdote.  He didn't stop at your life either, even asking after Ben's relationship. You'd been happy to report that he had indeed wooed his crush and had officially asked him to be his boyfriend.
"Those secret French lessons paid off," Pierre jokes as he pulls up to the imposing glass fronted building that served as Red Bull Racing's headquarters. The sweeping curve of the entrance was flanked on either side by two-story red and yellow bulls; proof that the team's dramatics extended far past the track. Anyone approaching for the first time would have been intimidated by the sheer size of them that suggested they were ready to stomp on their competition at a moment’s notice.
“Guess it’s time.” You sigh and undo your seatbelt and fiddle with the buckle, doing your best to stall. There was no reason to be this nervous. You were no one to these people; the focus would be entirely on Pierre. You would be an afterthought, not that you minded because it made it easier to fade into the background.
Pierre picks up on your hesitation in a heartbeat. “I’ll keep them off your back,” he promises and you nod, the single sentence taking the edge off. “Ready?”
“As I’ll ever be.” You reach for the door handle but Pierre tsks and you pause.
"You know better." You bite your lip to keep back the grin fighting its way to the surface as he comes around to open your door. He offers you his hand and you gladly take it and are pleasantly surprised when he threads his fingers through yours and heads for the entrance.
The atrium serving as the lobby is breathtakingly gorgeous. You had to hand it to the interior designer; they knew what they were doing. Sleek white marble floors are accented by red and yellow leather chairs scattered in small groups throughout the grand space. A tiered circular modern interpretation of a chandelier hangs above to offer guidance to the accountants, engineers and artists that weave through the lobby on their way to their respective wings or offices.
A waist high, glass front cabinet of drivers helmets serves as the reception desk. The unmistakable scent of a fresh cup of coffee hits you as you approach and the secretary hands a steaming paper cup to someone before they scurry off, presumably to a private office if they were important enough to warrant special attention. The first rays of morning sunlight glint off the silver Red Bull logo inlaid in the black marble behind the woman at the counter, making you squint.
"Bonjour Monsieur Gasly," she says in perfect French. "Ça va?"
"Bien," he says simply and switches to English for your benefit. "Has Christian come through yet?"
"He has," the woman says, glancing sidelong at you. Whatever conclusions she draws about you are insignificant enough that she writes you off immediately, angling her body towards Pierre and resting her chin in her hand. The posturing puts her ample chest on display, nearly spilling out of her billowing blouse, but Pierre's eyes don't wander. "He's not expecting you yet. Voulez-vous un cafe?"
"I'm good." The woman may have been determined to alienate you but Pierre was having none of it. Pierre turns to you, a grin playing on his face. This was your first test as an official couple and he intended to see how you handled it. "How about you, my love? Coffee?"
The woman's eyes slip to where your hand remains clasped in his. She cocks her head so slightly you think you might be imagining it until Pierre's grip tightens, a silent encouragement. Your confidence soars. If this was how Daniel's girlfriend felt when the two of them were out, you finally understood why they didn't hide. It was a rush knowing that everyone wanted Pierre but he only wanted you. No matter how blatantly women threw themselves at him, there was no doubt in your mind that he would never give a single one of them the light of day.
It was about damn time you afforded him the same unwavering commitment as he had shown you.
"No thank you," you reply sweetly with a mocking smile directed to the woman. You lean in and drop your voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "You might want to fix your shirt though, it’s… slipped. I know I'd hate for that to happen to me and no one tell me, especially at work. I don't think I'd ever recover from it."
Her face immediately turns scarlet as she stands straight and folds her arms over her chest. "If I were you-"
"Let Horner know I'm here," Pierre interrupts and it's somehow the hottest thing he's ever said. His purely commanding tone leaves no room for argument.
"Of course," she replies with a sharp smile in your direction that makes your spine stiffen. "Good luck. Christian is in rare form this morning."
"Just ignore it," Pierre murmurs and sweeps his thumb over the back of your hand as he leads you across the cold marble and down a carpeted hall. "You handled that well.”
“I may have gotten a few pointers from Daniel’s lover.” Your soft smile doesn’t quite reach your eyes. The short interaction had sapped most of your confidence, leaving you on uneven footing. “I would rather not have to deal with that again soon though.”
“I can handle the women easy enough when I know I’ve got you to come home to.”
The tightness in your chest eases further when the hall opens into another startlingly white space, this time packed with rows and rows of navy cubicles. But that's not where your attention is drawn- instead, your gaze is immediately snagged by the case of trophies towering high along the back wall. Cups of every shape and size shine within, each one representing a different podium for the team achieved in various years and tracks.
"There must be over a hundred," you breathe, mesmerized by the glinting silver and intricate craftsmanship. The case was easily thirty feet tall and you had to crane your neck to catch a glimpse of the ones in the top row. Each one told a story of blood, sweat and tears, each one earned by a driver who had made countless sacrifices to be where they were and finish on a podium.
"A hundred and eighty five to be exact," he counters, laughing at your amusement. "Your inner architect is screaming isn't it?"
"Only a little."
Pierre laughs outright at your white lie and tugs you along. "You can stare on the way out. I'll even show you which ones were Max's."
"Did you memorize what all his trophies look like?"
"Hey, meetings with engineers get boring. It's one of the more interesting ways to occupy your time when they are going on and on about fluid mechanics and thermodynamics- you know, stuff you understand but not me."
"Oh whatever, you enjoy those meetings and you know it."
"Only a little," he quotes.
People recognize him as you pass and some nod or give a simple greeting as they go about their morning but no one stops him to chat. The air feels a bit hostile, like no one knows what to do with him now that he's walking through the building after a nearly two year absence.
"Do you miss it?" You ask after he smiles at someone for the millionth time.
"I miss the team," he admits, "but not the management culture. My team was great- they supported me any way they could but it didn't help that Horner didn't exactly encourage them to believe in me. It's hard to crank out results when there's no one on your side."
"I'm on your side," you point out, nudging him with your hip. "You've got me forever, no takesies backsies."
"I'm grateful for it," he murmurs and gives your hand a squeeze. He hadn't let go once; not when he had to open a door or the two of you had to walk single file to let people pass.
The building was a labyrinth and if it wasn't for Pierre you'd have been lost the moment you set foot inside. He navigates the twisting halls with ease, having no need for the countless signs posted along the way.
He leads you up a set of steel stairs after what seems like ages. When he knocks on a heavy oak door, his grip on your hand turns possessive like he suspects the office’s occupant would try to rip you away from him.
“Morning.”
God, even the one word makes rage simmer in your veins. The voice precedes the man and Christian Horner swings open the door, a plastic smile splitting his face. He doesn't bother acknowledging you with a greeting, instead addressing his driver directly.
“I wasn’t expecting you to bring a guest.”
“A pretty face was needed around here,” Pierre snaps back without missing a beat. You bristle, free hand curling into a fist. If there was one person you didn’t mind teaching a lesson to, it was Horner. He had little respect for anyone he viewed as disposable- up to and including “underperforming” drivers.
Christian raises an eyebrow. “Sure. She can wait out here- you and I have terms to discuss.”
Fine, Horner wanted to play dirty? So could you. When it came to staring him down, you became fearless. He was the one person you refused to let intimidate you.
Drawing on your newly minted confidence you smile up at Pierre and silence the protest forming on his tongue with a grin. “Gimme a kiss, race winner.”
Pierre doesn’t hesitate to press his lips to yours. Cupping a hand to the back of his neck you draw him in and nip at his lower lip. The hand on your hip tightens at Christian's scoff but Pierre makes no move to break away. You linger a moment longer than necessary to drive your point home: you didn’t care what Horner had to say about you, you were here to stay and he would have to get used to it.
Pierre gives you a small, blissed out smile before dropping your hand and following Horner inside. The door clicks but doesn't shut all the way, Pierre leaving it cracked for your benefit.
Uninterested in eavesdropping on small talk, you lean on the metal railing to observe the research and development garage coming to life on the floor below. Hybrid engines in various stages of disassembly dot the space, small teams of mechanics and engineers tweaking components to reduce weight or increase horsepower. Pistons and valves are scrutinized and exchanged before being placed under stress to test their strength.
An FIA official in a red jacket wove through the garage to observe and jot notes down on a clipboard. He looks over the shoulder of an engineer pouring over formulas on a whiteboard, startling him when the official asks a question. Someone calls your name from below and you search for the origin, finally spotting the woman and waving back at her.
Management may have their qualms with Pierre but it was clear there were still some within the team that had his back. They were likely the same ones that knew he would have to leave the Red Bull umbrella to find any semblance of success. They may not have possessed the guts to stick their necks out for him when Horner had cut him but they were at least happy to see him back around headquarters.
"You sure you'll rise to the challenge?" Horner's question drags you back to the mezzanine.
"I'll take seventh. I'm only a few points away and we have plenty of races left."
He had five races to catch up to be exact. Pierre currently was comfortably ahead of the pack in ninth, Sainz was only three points ahead in eighth, and Norris ten points beyond in seventh. It would only take a DNF or two from his rivals and a few podiums to pass them up.
"Right," Horner starts. "There's a reason you've done so well this season and it's not luck. You've been racing exceptionally well and I don't want that to change."
"If there's something on your mind just get on with it." Pierre's voice is calm and collected in a way yours wouldn't be if you had been in his shoes. You've been dying to rip into Horner since the day he wrote Pierre off.
"There's been a fire in you the past few months since she has been gone-"
"Leave her out of this."
The tone sends a chill down your spine. It maintains the same level headedness that Pierre had perfected over the years and you had come to expect when he was backed against a wall, but it was laced with an unspoken threat. The intent was clear: he would walk out and abandon his chance for a seat at Red Bull if it meant protecting you.
You creep to the door to peer through the crack. Horner crosses his arms, a sly smile on his face. "You would sacrifice your chance at a championship winning seat for her? Everything you've worked so hard for, gone in a flash, because of her?"
"Without question," Pierre answers immediately. The conviction and commitment behind it nearly makes you stumble. "I'm sure there's plenty of other teams that would love to have me after the season I've had. She’s not going anywhere, so either you stop disrespecting her or I walk out."
You clench your fists, ready to burst in and demand Pierre stop being a fucking idiot. His long term plan saw him at another top team that would take care of him and nurture his skill- a long stint at Red Bull Racing was never in the cards. It wasn't an environment for everyone. Some people like Max thrived in it, letting the toxicity roll off their backs but for Pierre it was a cruel form of punishment. However, a seat at Red Bull for the 2022 season could mean the difference between an offer from Alpine and an offer from Haas when his contract was up for renewal.
The idea of seeing his number stickered to the floor in a Red Bull garage excites and intimidates you. Last time he hadn't been given the chance to prove himself. Would they still hold that against him? Knowing Christian, he probably would. On the other hand, it meant that they admitted their mistake in cutting him mid-season, whether they said it outright or not.
Pierre's redemption day was on the horizon and you couldn't wait to see the look on Horner's face when he finally won. And the longer Christian stays silent, the more potent the urge to throttle him grows.
Christian gives a slow clap. "Now there's the unwavering commitment that was missing during round one."
Your heart hammers in the dead silence as papers are shuffled. "Here's the contract. Terms are as discussed, you secure seventh in the world championship in 2021 and the second seat at Red Bull Racing is yours for the entire calendar in 2022. No demotions, substitutions, or shuffling of drivers unless medically necessary or mutually agreed upon by all affected parties."
"And the same spec car as the number one seat," Pierre insists, spine straight. "Same strategy."
Christian waves a hand. "Yes, that's in there too. Feel free to take a moment and read it over."
He does, allowing Christian time to pour a knuckle of whiskey and set the glass before Pierre. He pours himself an identical glass and waits until Pierre signs and initials all the boxes before raising it in acknowledgement.
"Congratulations. Welcome back to Red Bull- conditionally."
Pierre leaves the glass untouched and remains silent, staring his potential future team principal down. He gives the man no margin to question his abilities further, conveying all he needs to with a look that would have had you shaking at the knees. Even if you can't see his face, wrath radiates from him in waves and you wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it when it explodes.
"Right then." Christian lowers the glass, his fake smile vanishing. "I look forward to seeing what you can do."
"Don't worry. I'll deliver."
You step back and allow him to set the mood as he exits the office and slams the door behind him. Pierre sighs and scrubs a hand over his face. "You heard all of that right?"
You nod. "You wouldn't have really walked out, right?"
"I almost did."
He says it like it's the most obvious thing in the world. Like you should know that he would choose you over all of this, that all of his dreams and everything he had sacrificed to achieve them thus far meant less to him than you did. How many times did he have to prove his unwavering commitment before you realized it was true?
Pierre laces his fingers through yours, the heat welcomed by your ice cold skin. It was as much a comfort to you as it was to him. "I just have to grab some things from Max's office and then we can head out."
His jaw is still set after his stand off with Christian and you want nothing more than to ease his mind. Publicly comforting him with a touch to his chest or a kiss to his neck was out of the question so you settle on temporary distraction.
"Hey, you know what I want to see?"
"What's that?"
"That room full of all the old chassis. You know, the one that they hold all the fancy virtual events in? I wanna see those."
"I think I should be able to get you back there." He veers down a hall and you yelp, pulled along by his momentum. His attitude brightens a little at your laugh. The grin he throws your way is your own personal sun, warming your soul.
"Hey- hold on." You pull him to a stop and lead him into an alcove. The inch of space between your chests is charged with electricity, begging to jump from one to the other.
"Can I help you?" He asks and grins down at you.
"No," you say nonchalantly. "Just wanted to be selfish for a second."
You rise up on your tiptoes to press a kiss to his lips. He melts into you, one hand coming up to cup your jaw while the other finds the small of your back. You side your tongue over his lower lip and he presses you against the door leading to who knew where and opens his mouth to you. You sigh into the kiss, arms winding around his neck and losing yourself in him.
Now that you had gotten over your anxiety, everything was so much easier. You know there's press roaming about the building and any number of them could pass by at any moment but you genuinely couldn't care less. Let them talk; you were over caring what anyone thought or said.
All that mattered was the man beneath your fingertips. You would endure a lifetime of insults if he was the one to soothe the wounds afterwards. As long as you both were happy, no one could come between you ever again.
Pierre pulls away when someone passes by and coughs quietly.  "You're trouble," he murmurs, leaving an arm propped next to your head and effectively caging you in.
"And you're dangerous," you tease, tugging on his hair and exposing his throat enough to nip at it once. "Together we're the perfect pair."
He groans and leans away. "Keep that up and I might have to stay in London an extra week."
You slip out of his grasp and give him an unrestrained grin. "Don't threaten me with a good time." You spin on your heel and set off down the hall, swaying your hips a little more than necessary.
"You know where you're going?" He calls after you.
"Someone will point me in the right direction, I'm sure."
"Someone like me." He catches up to you and once again takes your hand in his. He was enjoying showing you off almost as much as you enjoyed hanging on him.
"Maybe we should head right to Max's office and hurry home, huh?"
"Maybe-"
"Pierre, there you are."
You both turn to a woman hustling up the hall after you. She’s slight and her brown curls bounce as she jogs to where the two of you pause at a bend. You glance up to Pierre to see if he's just as confused as you are.
"Hey Mary," he says cheerily. "How are you? Sorry I didn't check in with you when I got here."
"Oh it's fine- why aren't you in the Alpha samples I sent?” The woman props a fist on her hip and tips her head to the side. “I think I got your size right now that I’ve laid eyes on you. I was hoping for a shoot today since you've finally come by."
It takes you a moment to register that she's addressing you. You shoot Pierre a look and he offers you a tentative, closed off smile. "Um, what Alpha gear?"
The woman's chocolate brown eyes go wide. "The ones I've been sending to Pierre. Hoodies, dresses, jackets. All the stuff from the new line. They have been sending the samples to you, right?"
"Um, yeah I've gotten them," Pierre says, rubbing his neck. "I haven't given them to her though."
"Oh, I see!” Pink tinges Mary’s cheeks. “I must have missed a memo. I just thought that you'd want to do a shoot with her today, since we already had a quick one planned for you. After all, you talk about her all the time."
"He does?"
Mary nods. "Oh yes, we've all heard plenty about you. You're lucky to have someone so enamored with you. I just dropped off some more samples in Max's office as a little thank you for letting us steal him so often-"
"Okay, thank you Mary," Pierre says abruptly. "I'll get back to you on that."
Pierre steers you away and down the hall. "What was she talking about? Why would they want me to come by for a photo shoot?"
Pierre runs a hand through his hair and pauses outside Max's office. The Dutchman must have been away because Pierre pulls out his key and fits it in the lock. "I just- come on."
He waves you inside and you obey, letting him close the door and grant you some semblance of privacy before continuing.
"I never formally told anyone that we broke up. Most people came to their own conclusions once they didn't see you around for a while. Some people didn't get the message. Obviously Mary was one of them. I would still talk about you, I couldn't help myself. There was one shoot where Yuki and I were together and he mentioned off hand that you'd be a good brand ambassador. I tried to explain that it wouldn't work but Mary wouldn't hear it and she just kept sending me more and more samples.”
You draw a breath and interrupt his rambling. “But where-”
"I had it all in a box in my office but I struggled to concentrate with a reminder of you hanging over my head. I sent it over here to Max and that's where it's sat ever since. I used the excuse that Max was in town more often than I was and no one read too far into it."
"Why didn't you tell me?" You whisper. "I would've taken them. I'm sure you got an earful from Mary."
"Would you have?” Pierre pauses, your silence in the face of his frustration speaking volumes. “I waited four months to hear from you. Tell me that sending you thousands of dollars in unreleased merch wouldn't have made you even more hesitant to come back to me."
Not knowing what else to say, you let your gaze fall to the carpet. Sending you expensive things would have felt something like a bribe, like he was trying to influence you with fancy clothes.
Pierre shakes his head. “It doesn’t matter, it’s in the past now. We can take it home today and you can wear it when I take you for dinner and Alpha will get the press they’re after. Everyone will be happy.”
He wasn’t happy. That much was plain to see. He hadn’t been able to stomach seeing something intended for you, even that minute of a reminder had been too much for him to bear. God, you had thoroughly wrecked him. You were lucky that there were still enough pieces of him left to heal.
“I didn’t realize you were hurting so bad,” you say, voice barely above a whisper as you cross the cramped space to him, stepping over piles of strewn paperwork carefully so as to not disturb whatever random order they were placed in. You don’t dare reach out to touch him as his shoulders slump, any and all forward momentum he’d gathered suddenly sapped.
“It’s one of the worst things I’ve ever gone through.”
Unable to let him suffer alone with his thoughts, you wrap your arms around his middle and let your cheek rest between his shoulders. “I didn’t mean to alienate you. I was waiting for you, too.”
“You needed space and I gave it to you.” His hand rests on your arm with a gentleness you’ve come to expect when he lays himself bare like this. “There were so many times I almost gave in to the impulse and just messaged you but I made myself wait. I didn’t want to rush it and make things worse. You always need time to think things through- I knew you would come around eventually. It didn’t make it any easier though.”
You rub soothing circles on his side as you blink back the tears that spring to your eyes. “I’m sorry I put you through that. I’m sorry I took so long and I’m sorry I made you wait. It had to have been torture-”
He turns in your embrace and cups your chin, forcing you to look up at him. The pad of his thumb sweeps across your cheek, the metal of the ring on his middle finger biting into your flushed skin. “It’s alright. You had a lot to sort through and I had to respect that.”
“We lost so much time-”
“Hey,” he says softly, ducking his head to meet your eyes. “We’re together now. If there’s one thing I’m sure of it’s that you can’t let missed opportunities control you or else you’ll never be happy.”
You nod, swiping your sleeve under your eyes. “What did they send?” you ask, nodding towards the box overflowing with tan and navy threads.
“Pull up a chair,” Pierre suggests, “there’s a lot.”
You roll over Max’s desk chair and tug on Pierre’s arm. Once he gets the picture and sits, you settle in his lap. He winds an arm around your middle, the close contact already soothing your frazzled nerves.
“That better?” he murmurs.
“Much better.”

*blinks* so it just now occurred to me that I’m probably interpreting the bus stop fiction much more differently than most people do??? And I don’t just mean the lie Pran and Pat used to get their friends to stop fighting, I’m also referring to the lie Pat used to get his friends to help rebuild the bus stop
Okay so, recap: Pran tells everyone they can’t fight in this spot because seniors from both their faculties built it. Pat reinforces the lie, both of them temporarily manage to keep their friends from duking it out in front of a security camera. Pat later uses the lie to trick his friends into helping the architect students repair the stop
But my interpretation of that second lie, the one Pat tells to his friends, is that it’s also a convenient fiction for them to help the architecture students
I do think they genuinely believe that seniors from both faculties built the original bus stop (and it’ll be really interesting to see if that original lie is exposed and if that actually affects anything), but I also think that they’re using it as an excuse to help with the rebuilding without losing face or fully admitting to their guilt
When Pat initially scolds them about the bus stop, they don’t immediately protest the scolding. Their first reaction is to look at each other, shocked and surprised. Considering how panicked they were going into the disciplinary office at the start of the episode, vs the joking and playing Pat walks into at the end (especially in contrast to how stressed the architecture gang is throughout this episode), it seems like they genuinely didn’t realize that the architecture students didn’t get the same punishment as they did. And when Pat yells at them, they look so guilty. They know the incident is equally their fault, but the architecture students are bearing the brunt of the punishment. They ruined that guilt in the next minute, but it comes off as more defensive posturing to me than anything else. They don’t know what they can do about it though and they’re worried to admit their role and culpability in the problem with that insecurity, so they hide behind bluster and a “their problem, not ours” attitude
So when they challenge Pat (why is this our problem, why do we need to care) and Pat insists not doing anything will mean losing their territory, they’re all pretty on board with this plan really quickly. And…their insistence on why they definitely do need to help a little strange, almost. Like, how the hell would they lose the rights to a bus stop? It’s a bus stop. Furthermore, all of them recently got scolded for fighting at it and the architecture gang is facing actual expulsion if they don’t fix the bus stop. They’re certainly not going to fight the engineers about being in that space when they’re on such thin ice—even if things were tense, engineering is the group that ultimately has the upper hand there. And if tensions really were that bad, the group of them is half a step from disappearing from their uni lives. Given half a thought, their excuse for why they need to help rebuild the bus stop falls apart
It could just be that that’s how these guys think—the show starts with Pat picking a fight with Wai just because backing down would ‘damage his reputation’. it’s an incredibly stupid conflict, and the narrative treats it as such (as seen by Pa and Pran’s reactions to the fight), but that could just be where these characters are at in this point of the narrative. It could also be that these guys will just follow Pat’s request to help because at the end of the day, he is their good friend and they’d want to help him.
But considering how much of this show’s framework is built around convenient fictions—things like Pat and Pran’s…everything, really, from creating fictions that let them interact as something other than enemies (ie the roleplaying to help design the bus stop) to hiding their care for the other behind the excuse of their rivalry (“I love the look on your face…when you LOSE”); and also even beyond them to the other character relationships like InkPa (ie Pa projecting her crush onto Pat, Ink flirting with Pa by feeding her pancake with that sign behind them)—Bad Buddy as very much a show is that emphasizes how people may say one thing but their actions will betray another feeling entirely. And as they keep revealing more and more layers to all of the characters and their actions, I can’t help but wonder if we’re going to learn that the engineering guys did genuinely feel bad for getting the architecture students in so much trouble and Pat’s claim that they’ll “lose an asset” gave them a convenient excuse to help their rivals without fully admitting to their guilt.
Of course, I can just be pulling straws here, but hinting that these guys were genuinely concerned about their rivals, even during this time where their fighting is at its peak and they have no connection to the other group beyond their rivalry, would add a new layer and dynamic to the two groups’ eventual reconciliation. The bus stop wouldn’t just be symbolic of how Pat and Pran work together as a team, but it’d also be the first olive branch between both factions. And furthermore, it wouldn’t just be the first reconciliation between the two groups, it’d be the first reconciliation Pat and Pran directly helped, but not necessarily with the burden of having to inspire it. Adding a layer to the fiction that implies Korn, Chang, and Mo might’ve liked to have helped the architecture students (after they got their heads out of their asses) regardless would also contrast the parents’ rivalry in showing how a reconciliation cannot only rely on Pat and Pran, but also everyone embroiled in it. Given that we also know that Pat and Pran’s fathers were a part of this rivalry between both faculties, and unlike the others of their generation (like Professor Pichai), they have not moved on from any rivalry whatsoever, it’d show how a true reconciliation between them could be inspired by Pat and Pran, but could not occur only because of them

Biography:
Born to a British aristocrat and Ghanaian diplomat, Victoria had all the opportunities from early on in life. Education and access to the upper class came with many advantages but made sticking up one´s nose an easy pitfall which her mother, coming from a humble home herself, actively and successfully knew how to stifle. Besides mastering the best schools, the young girl showed an astonishing talent at dancing but that was not the career path her parents would support. Instead she found, her agility and quickness were traits perfect for fencing. She grew fond of the sport so much she entered contests and won. Local competitions turned national and soon, international. Olympia would be the next step. But as so often, life had other plans.
At a visit to Dubai, she met and fell in love with influential businessman Amir Khan who enamoured by the young woman, swept her off her feet with relentless persuasion. They married when she was only 20, and a year later her son Xavier was born. However, the marriage didn´t last when her husband´s interest shifted to other young women to pursue. As heartbreaking the divorce was at first, Victoria wasn´t defeated by it. Money and the connections she had made during her twenty years with Amir gave her access to make her passion for art a career so today she´s a gallerist in one of London´s most famous galleries.
Her life is fulfilling, for the most part. For the times it needs a little more spice, there are other hush-hush activities she likes to partake in. They teeter on the border of legality but how else would they be so much fun?

♛ Spotted on the Upper East Side…
Name: Parker Knightly Pronouns: Up To Player Age: 21 years old     Hometown: Upper East Side, NY   Occupation: Senior at Columbia University (formerly UCLA) Social Status: Insider   Faceclaim Suggestion: Ross Butler (if choosing an alternate, remember that Parker’s twin sister’s FC is Natasha Liu Bordizzo)
Who Is Parker?
“Lucky to be coming home again.”
Welcome back to the Upper East Side, Parker. How cute of us to arrive at the same time, right? I can imagine you’ve missed us all dreadfully. There’s no place like home... I’m sure you’ll be welcomed back by everyone with open arms. You’ve always been a fan favourite. You’re kind, caring and always take an interest in other people. You’ve always been popular and not just because your twin is Jessica Knightly. But you’ve never been bothered about it. Gossip doesn’t interest you and you don’t need to be adored. Ever the sensitive artist, you’d rather just focus on strumming your guitar and writing down your feelings. You’re a romantic and a sweetheart. Honestly, I find it hard to fault you, Parker. Maybe you can write a song about me. XOXO ---Gossip Girl
A Little Extra
UTP (two paragraphs of biography; helpful key points listed below -  message  if you’d like to make any changes or note in the app if you’d  rather the bio written up  for you!)
Parker is creative. They play guitar and write songs, poems and keep a dream journal just in case their subconscious is holding all the best stuff out on them. It’s always been more of a hobby than something they’d like as a career but you never know.
Is a genuine sweetheart. Parker was brought up to be kind and polite, to take an interest in other people and their feelings. They were also brought up to not take crap though so Parker doesn’t let their kindness get taken advantage of. If Parker doesn’t like someone or, more accurately, something they did, they won’t pretend it was okay.
After graduating high school, Parker headed off to UCLA , studying to become an architect. It was hard to leave home, to leave behind their friends and especially their high school sweetheart (they both agreed it was for the best but...). Things were going good, you know? Things were going fine. Parker’s parents admittedly pulled a few strings to get the transfer sorted but they are officially coming back to New York for their senior year of college. It feels right.
Three years is a long time to be gone though. Parker doesn’t expect that everyone will remember them or welcome them back with open arms (let’s be honest though, they will!). Is excited to reunite with old friends, play guitar at one of Logan Hunter’s bonfire beach parties and not have to worry about Gossip Girl posting about them. Wait.
Loves to play with fashion especially when it comes to digging out vintage pieces. Loves rare vinyls and songs that tell a story. Parker’s just trying to do their best, you know?
What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?
UTP (if applicable; alternatively you can note their thoughts on Gossip Girl’s return!)
Connections
Jessica Knightly - the twin! Parker and Jess are super close. Jess has never needed anyone to fight her battles so Parker stays in their lane in that respect. They’re both a little dramatic, bubbly and can never say no to a good party!
Baby Beaumont - the high school sweetheart. Parker was so in love with Baby Beaumont. They were so smart, sweet and interesting. A beautiful soul. But they both agreed that when Parker went off to college, it was best to call it quits. A clean break. Yup, that was an awesome idea.
Logan Hunter, Isobel Prescott and Ceren Celik-Montgomery - Jess’ best friends and found family. Parker has known them their entire life and loves ‘em just as much as Jess. Doesn’t like what Isobel did with Jess’ then boyfriend Oliver Andrews but apparently we’re past that.
Tripp Vanderbilt - the bestie! Parker’s missed Tripp a lot and can’t wait to be in the same city as him again.

Alright I've seen a lot of people go off on how six needs to make the Vaudeville theatre more accessible, but I've seen nothing on what could and should be done.
Disclaimer first; I have zero clue on how accessibility laws, construction permits, construction timelines, etc. work on the UK and I am not disabled or a wheelchair user. But I do have a design degree with a heavy emphasis on identifying problems and finding real solutions, and six months work experience on accessibility projects and I am going at this from a technical point of view.
Constellations closes on the vaudeville on September 12 and six opens on September 29 that gives them 16 full days and the morning of the 29th to: load out constellations, load in six, tech six, do accessibility upgrades to the theater. The load out/load in of the theater can take over a week for each show so with the time they have I think the possible timeline is September 13-19 Constellations load out, September 20-26 Six load in, September 27-29 six tech.
But what is needed to make the Vaudeville more accessible? From what I’ve seen people criticize and my own quick research:
It has no wheelchair accessible stalls on the bathrooms.
There is no ramp access to the theater.
There is a limit on size and weight for wheelchairs meaning no power chairs can use it.
There are no handrails on the aisles beside the seats.
Accessibility to the upper floors of the theatre (dress circle and upper circle) are only accessible via stairs.
So, with that on mind lets discuss under the cut realistic changes that could be made from easiest to hardest.
The ramp access can be easily solved, it doesn’t interfere with the loading process and doesn’t block access to the box office either. With either a removable ramp (not the most desirable solution), or a permanent one. What I think would be ideal is to change the step on the leftmost door for a ramp. I am choosing the left one as the box office is closer to the right one and lines could get in the way of wheelchairs on that side. The height is 5 cm (2”) so the resulting angle for the ramp wouldn’t be a too steep to cause trouble. On photos the steps appear to be made of marble. This could present some issues; marble is slippery by nature and even more when wet. This could be prevented by making the surface of the ramp textured. But in my opinion the best option would be to make it from either concrete or stone which can be made to have a similar texture to the marble and doesn’t become slippery.
Handrails between the seats are a simple enough installation that can be arranged to happen with the loading process. The theater has the advantage that all the aisles are on the sides so handrails can be easily incorporated to the existing design aesthetic. If it is correctly planned this doesn’t need to clash with either production moving in/out light and sound equipment.
The wheelchair climber can and should be changed. I couldn’t find any photos of the current setup but there are many ways to upgrade it (100% depends on how much money they want to put into it). The theater has two wheelchair spaces located in the stalls and as long as they don’t charge for those more than the lower-mid prize range of other tickets those can work. I am not suggesting new wheelchair spaces on the upper levels of the theater because the stairs to get up there are too narrow and the climb down from the entrance to those levels too steep to even be safe to consider.
The bathroom problem which I think is the biggest concern of most people is much trickier. From my architect friend: changing bathrooms fully depends on the current plumbing system. With the current timeline there is little chance that a big chance can be made to the plumbing. What can be made is a common solution to this problem; merging two stalls into one and removing a toilet to create a wheelchair accessible stall. This one can be done in the available time and doesn’t interfere with either production. It totally depends on the amount of stalls already available, but since I don’t know the exact layout of the theater right now, I say it is possible. The problem here is the only bathroom that can be accessed with a wheelchair is the stalls one (ground floor) and this one is for females only. Male restrooms are on the top floors (lets not get into gendered restrooms right now that is a whole different issue). The only answer I see is to find a way to either create a new stall with an independent entrance or to merge two stalls, separate those from the main bathroom and create a new entrance. Same for the dress circle as not only people with wheelchairs need larger stalls and handrails.
The access to the upper floors is the thing I don’t think can happen. It would need an elevator and aside from that being a months long remodeling project from what I’ve seen there is no space inside the theater to install one. This is for people with limited mobility, not wheelchairs (I’ve already mentioned why it isn’t possible to take wheelchairs to the upper levels), This means seniors, people with canes and crutches, pregnant women, or basically anyone with limited mobility that has problems going up and down four flights of stairs.

One Plaza Landmark in Düsseldorf

One Plaza, Germany
Situated at the Kennedydamm, entrance to Düsseldorf’s inner city, this building, together with the L’Oréal Germany headquarters and the vertical campus Eclipse, will add another impressive element designed by HPP Architects to the urban skyline. The mixed-use building with approx. 45,000 sqm of gross floor area is to be realised for the MOMENI Group and, alongside its function as an office building, will also provide space for special uses, gastronomy and local services. With its characteristic facade, generous enclosed outside spaces, usable roof gardens and modern workplaces, One Plaza stands for identity, sustainability and flexibility.
Organised by Archivibe in collaboration with Valcucine, the installation “LE3DERS” at Milan Design Week 2022 shows the 3D models of LEED-certified buildings as an augmented reality exhibition through an Instagram filter. With its aspiration for LEED Gold certification and its conception via a 3D model as a digital twin, the ONE PLAZA is part of this group of projects by internationally renowned architecture practices.
The building composition, consisting of three wings grouped around a central inner courtyard area, will create a sculptural entity with distinctive architecture and high recognition value. The dynamic design language is applied consistently across all the dimensions of the building, including the facade.
The two-storey elevation at each corner opens up ONE PLAZA on every side. Three generous entrance points are created which connect the ground floor area with the surrounding district. At the same time the height offset at the upper levels of the facade creates a striking roof landscape that offers protection from the wind for office tenants enjoying the gardens. “The diagonal lines of the curtain facade with its vertical, cleverly folded aluminium panels underlines the dynamism and lightness of the whole building and creates an intriguing play of light and shadow”, explains Volker Weuthen, HPP’s Senior Partner responsible for the project.
The building offers users a high degree of flexibility and the opportunity to implement every possible office concept from open plan to a cellular or combi office design. The permanent workplaces are arranged close to the facade. And in addition, in the central zones there are communicative working environments for flexible use with a range of options for employees. The enclosed courtyard serves as an internal meeting place, a central green lung, which, together with the roof gardens, increases the ecological quality of the building and creates a link to the open spaces of the surrounding area.
The fluent and naturalistic design of the open spaces is in powerful contrast to the sharp-cornered and highly compacted building design. Inspired by the leitmotif of “forest home”, the greening of the outdoor spaces, courtyard, roof terraces and sloping roof areas creates an urban oasis that lends added value to the working environment of users as well as increasing the urban quality of life of the neighbourhood. The additional green areas will have a positive impact on air quality, microclimate, heat and noise pollution, as well as comfort and well-being.
Besides these measures, many other green building criteria are fulfilled, so that ONE PLAZA is aiming to obtain both LEED Gold and Wired Score Platinum certification. Sustainable mobility is supported not only by the very good links to the public transport network, but also by electric charging stations and the unusually high number of 180 bike parking spaces, which are also available for the public to use.
The existing building on the developed site was already dismantled last year. Work on the new construction will start in August 2022, completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.

Repeat After Me:
Under-Promise and then Over-Deliver.
This is the proper configuration of this action.
I’m really sorry that you promised those upper Senior Level Officials at Molson/ Coors that it would be done by the 1st week in September….but.
Fuck you. Not my problem.
I’m really sorry that you haven’t waited to find out lead times of materials, and they aren’t what you expected they would be…but.
Fuck you. Not my problem.
Yes the drawings will be done this week. Yes, our architect will shepherd them through the permit process. Yes, they will make every attempt to expedite faster than 3 weeks…but.
Fuck you. Not my problem.
Yes, I might have a few tricks in my sleeve. Yes, I might be able to use them. Yes, I’m one fucking charming bastard, and I could help you out…but.
Fuck you. Not my problem.
