Serendipitous Encounter
The opulent bath chamber of the royal palace was a sanctuary of marble and gold, filled with the soft glow of candlelight that danced upon the rippling waters of the grand marble tub. Kundavai, the Chola princess, immersed herself in the warm embrace of the fragrant water, a moment of rare solitude in the chaos of courtly life.
Her long, ebony hair cascaded around her like a silken waterfall, the tendrils clinging to her shoulders and back as if reluctant to part from their mistress. With graceful fingers, she unpinned the intricate coils that held her hair captive, allowing the strands to fall freely around her, a cascade of midnight against the pale backdrop of her skin.
Lost in the sensation of the water caressing her skin, Kundavai paid little heed to the soft rustle of fabric that heralded an unexpected visitor. She assumed it was one of the palace attendants, come to replenish her bath or attend to some other menial task.
But as she turned to glance over her shoulder, her eyes widened in shock as she beheld the figure standing in the doorway. It was not a servant who had intruded upon her solitude, but Vandyathevan Vallavaraiyan, Adithya's closest friend and a familiar face in the royal court.
For a moment, time seemed to stand still as their eyes met, both frozen in disbelief at the unexpected turn of events. Kundavai's heart pounded in her chest, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she realized her state of undress.
Vandyathevan, for his part, seemed equally stunned, his eyes wide with astonishment as they roved over her figure, taking in every inch of her exposed skin. She could feel the heat of his gaze like a physical touch, sending a shiver of awareness down her spine.
Desperately, Kundavai reached for the nearest towel, a delicate peach-colored swath of fabric that clung to her damp skin like a second skin. She held it close to her chest, a feeble attempt to preserve her modesty in the face of this unexpected intrusion.
"I... I'm sorry," Vandyathevan stammered, tearing his gaze away from her in a gesture of contrition. "I didn't mean to... I'll leave you in peace."
But even as he turned to go, Kundavai couldn't help but feel a pang of regret at the loss of his presence. For in that fleeting moment, she had seen something in his eyes, something that spoke of desire and longing, a connection that transcended the boundaries of propriety.
"Wait," she called out, her voice barely above a whisper. "Please, stay."
Vandyathevan hesitated for a moment, his gaze flickering uncertainly between her and the door. But then, as if drawn by an invisible force, he stepped forward, crossing the threshold into the chamber once more.
As he approached, Kundavai could see the conflict warring within him, the desire warring with propriety, the longing warring with duty. And yet, despite the risks, she couldn't deny the pull of their attraction, the magnetic force that drew them together like two stars in the night sky.
With a trembling hand, she reached out to him, her fingers brushing against his in a silent invitation. And as he took her hand in his, his touch sending sparks of electricity coursing through her veins, Kundavai knew that this serendipitous encounter was just the beginning of a love that would defy all odds.

In Memoriam
This is my first try at Vanmozhi Fanfiction. Inspired from the PS 2 movie scene. Planning to do a two part follow-up of this prologue. Let me know what you think!
Prologue
'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all.’ (In Memoriam A. H. H., 27.13-17)
The sky of Thanjavur was strangely grey on a Vaikasi afternoon as the people waited for their beloved crown prince, Aditha Karikalan, to come home.
Only this time, there was no line of excited girls, wearing their best sarees,  chattering away with their aarti thali on the steps of majestic Thanjavur fort, waiting to catch a glimpse of their handsome  prince.
Instead, a grief-stricken royal family waited patiently. Chakrvarthi and the young prince, Ponniyin Selvan were waiting at the front, while the women of the royal family waited behind.
Slightly behind the royal family, Kodombalur Ilavarasi Vanathi was also waiting along with other royal women, looking over the sea of the people that gathered at the outer court of the fort. Since last night, as the news of the prince’s death spread, people kept coming from all corners of the Cholanadu.
While Vanathi waited, she thought of everything and nothing.
Such a contrast, Vanathi reflected, looking at the grey sky briefly before her gaze settled on the royal family who were clad in pristine white, a decorum when someone in the family passes away.
As if even the sky was mourning along with this family.
Vanathi’s thoughts got interrupted as people’s clamour suddenly increased, making her focus at the entry gate of the fort.
Finally, Aditha Karikalan had arrived in Thanjavur.
In the city where he grew up. In the city where he belongs.
A long procession of regiment came by foot, closely followed by the prince's beloved horse regiment, waving the chola flag.
From where she was standing, Vanathi could  see the chariot carrying the prince’s body from a distance, closely flanked by his trusted fighting companions, Manamalyan, Parthibendran and Vanthiyadevan; not leaving their beloved prince’s side, even in death.
As the chariot slowly moved across the crowd, Vanathi could hear muffled cries while some people started to shower flower petals at the chariot, a sign of their last respect to their Ilavarase. A section of the crowd even started to tussle with the guards to touch the chariot and pray.
It took a long time for the guards to clear the way for the chariot to cross the short distance of the entry gate to the steps of the fort.
When the chariot carrying the prince's body finally stopped in front of the fort stairs, there was a momentary pause among the royal family members.
As if they could not believe what they were seeing.
The ailing Chakravarty was the first to break down as he could not support his weight anymore. Ponniyin Selvan gripped his father tightly, making sure his father could come down the stairs to meet his beloved elder son.
Raṇi varataṭcaṇai Sembiyan Mahadevi, Rani Vanavan Mahadevi, Iliya Piratti slowly started to walk behind the Chakravarty to meet their nephew, son and brother, Aditha Karikalan, one last time. Vanathi followed them as well, her steps heavy with grief.
As everyone in the family huddled at the front of the chariot and tried to caress the beloved prince’s face, the cries of the Chakravarti and Rani were the most heart-breaking.  Vanathi, who was standing at the end of the chariot, could not take it anymore. She bowed her head, closed her eyes to drown out the sound of cries and desperately put her hands together in prayer.
Ishvara, may the Ilavarase join you in heaven. And…And give my beloved royal family and the people of Cholanadu the strength to overcome this difficult time.
Vanathi stayed still for a few minutes, hoping the cries had subdued. As she opened her eyes, she knew that her attempt at focusing on praying was futile.
But she had to try.
In desperation, her eyes searched for the only face that could give her strength at this moment.
As her eyes landed on Ponniyin Selvan’s face, Vanathi realized, despite being such a pillar of strength to his father, the young prince could not hold himself together anymore.
His face contorted with unspeakable grief; tears were streaming down his eyes continuously.
Vanathi had endured loss in various forms from a very young age. Her mother’s death, even though she had never met her, had left a deep wound in her childhood. Then her father’s death at Ilankai war, leaving her as an orphan in this cruel world. Then bidding farewell to her only father like figure uncle Periya Velar before every war, not knowing whether he would return alive from them was always tantamount to loss for her….Yet, no pain of these losses compared to the pain of seeing her beloved Ponniyin Selvan grieving at this moment.
Until this point, Vanathi did not realize that she had been crying along with everyone else. But seeing her Ponniyin Selvan break down like this, fresh tears blocked her vision completely. Her heart felt so heavy that for a moment she felt like she could not breathe anymore.
Wiping her tears with pallu, Vanathi took a few deep breaths to calm herself.
As the guards started to move to take the chariot away for cremation, on a whim, Vanathi decided to come at the front of the chariot and touch Ilavarase Aditha Karikalan’s feet, seeking blessings.
An opportunity she never had before.
While she looked at the crown prince’s resting face one last time, Vanathi realized, in death, Aditha Karikalan had finally found his peace.
The peace that he had been searching for a long time.

V Venkayya, the scholar who rediscovered ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ Raja Raja Chola
Tumblr media
In the early 20th century, the name of the king who built the big temple of Thanjavur was not known; some believed it was built by Karikala Chola, who lived in the Sangam age, around 1,000 years before Raja Raja . . . (Read the full article by clicking on the title)
Tumblr media
Venkayya's handwriting
As an author and editor, Kalki was aware of the role of literature and archeological studies. He acknowledged it through Aditha Karikalan's words in the Ponniyin Selvan.
No, Parthiba, no. We've never heard of a dynasty that lasts forever. Even the Ikshvaku dynasty to which Rama belonged, came to an end. The Rashtrakutas made their appearance in order to defeat the Chalukyas. It’s natural for kingdoms to reach their heights sometimes and eat dust at others. Some kingdoms attain great prosperity, then disappear without a trace. Just look at my ancestors! Karikala Valavan, Killi Valavan and other Chozha kings like them lived a good life and achieved fame. But what do we know of them now? We know their names only because there were poets who sang in praise of them. We do not even know whether what the poets sang was true, or whether they were so drunk that they sang whatever came to mind. But these architectural masterpieces that Mahendrar and Mamallar created will remind people of their greatness for thousands of years. Compared to them, what have you or I achieved? We killed thousands of men in battle, we made rivers of blood flow. What else have we done to perpetuate our names?

Manamadhin Unmai (ch 6 of Inaidhal)
@whippersnappersbookworm and I are back!
****
"Anna! We can't let you go to Kadambur on your own!" Kundavai protested as soon as she heard her brother's decision.
" Ilavarasi is right. You can't go to Kadambur all alone, especially when Nandhini is planning to murder you, Ilavarase. At least take me with you," Vandiyathevan interjected, desperate to stop his dear friend from making a rash mistake.
Aditha simply smiled at their concern. His siblings and friends care for him, but this is important and personal and he doesn't want anyone near him when he finally meets his beloved.
" No, I am not taking you with me, Vallavaraya. "
" But Ilavarase…"
" No! It's an order!" Aditha stopped Vandhiyathevan mid sentence, his voice now becoming stern.
" None of you are coming with me , all of you are going back to Thanjai as soon as Thambi feels better. Appa needs you people more than I do. I can take care of myself."
"Anna,” Arulmolzhi put a hand on Aditha's shoulder, trying his best to convince his Anna for the last time. Aditha purposely did not meet Arulmozhi’s eyes, for he knew that Arulmozhi’s pleading eyes could and will convince him to take his younger brother as well.
" At least take me with you , we can talk with them , and maybe convince them to…"
" No Arul,” Aditha patted his little brother's head, only meeting his eyes for a fraction of a second, and even that seemed to make him want to change his mind.
No! He could not!
"I am sorry, but you are going back to Thanjai with them. I have to talk with Nandhini, and she is not going to listen to anyone other than me. So listen to me and go back to Thanjai. It's not a request, it's an order from the crown prince."
" Do whatever you want to do!" Kundavai huffed in frustration. “Why can’t you listen to us this once? We only want your safety.”
Aditha sighed , he was expecting this reaction from Kundavai. His sister and he tended to clash as they were equally stubborn.
"Arul, Vandiyathevan , Kodambalur Illavarasi, would you mind going outside for some time? I need to discuss something with Kundavai privately."
Kundavai sat down by her brother's side as the others left them alone. She didn't catch Vandiyathevan glancing back at her with yearning in his eyes while leaving the room, so caught up in Aditha’s decision was she.
" Anna, is there nothing I can do to change your decision?" Kundavai enquired, tears forming in her eyes.
" Unfortunately, no Kanna,” Aditha sighed as he looked down at his sister's eyes , her eyes shining with uncertainty and fear, the tears there hurting his heart.
" This is something I need to do for myself. Please don't stop me, kanne."
" Anna,” Kundavai mumbled as she tried her best to blink back her tears , a fear of something uncertain gripping her heart. Kundavai knew in the back of her mind that the reunion between the lost lovers would never end in happiness, but her brother was never the one to listen to her once he had made up his mind. He will always do as he pleases especially when it comes to Nandhini.
" You have grown up so much, Kanna. This is high time you should get married," Aditha said to lighten the tense atmosphere.
" Anna!" Kundavai playfully smacked his shoulders as she wiped away her tears.
" What Anna?" Aditha smiled as he pulled his dear sister into a hug.
" My little sister has grown up so much , she has become so beautiful and intelligent. Now she needs a man who would be her equal in everything, someone who could understand her scheming brain and possibly win an argument with her."
Kundavai laughed at her brother's words as Aditha absent-mindedly ruffled her long hair.
" Unfortunately such a man is rare, Anna."
Aditha looked down at her sister , tears glistening in her eyes and she rested her head on his shoulders.
" Is everything okay, thangai?"
" Yes, of course! Why wouldn't it be?"- Kundavai answered as she tried to blink back her tears
" Don't hide your tears from me, kanna. Tell me what's wrong?"
" Nothing Anna , it's just that I missed you."
Aditha knew it was the truth, but that there was more to it. He lifted sister's head and wiped away her tears, which kept falling regardless of her efforts.
"I missed you too, Kanna. So much."
" I am really sorry Anna,” Kundavai mumbled under her breath as she tried to compose herself.
" For what?"
" For everything I did, I didn't mean to hurt you, Anna. I honestly didn't know that Nandhini's absence was going to hurt you like that . I thought she was just a …"
"A passing cloud?" Aditha enquired
"Yes , but I was wrong . Apparently, you were in love with her so much that her disappearance broke you apart . Is such a love possible? One full of such selflessness, in this Kaliyugam? Our scriptures do speak of that love, but such selflessness feels so rare."
" Why are there so many questions about love suddenly, little one? Is there something I should know?" Aditha teased his sister, making her blush.
" It's nothing Anna , I was just wondering . Something happened last night which made me wonder."
" What happened?" Aditha wondered. What made his practical sister wonder about love? Is she finally realizing her feelings for Vallavarayan?
" It was Vanathi, she told me something last night and I simply can't get it out of my mind. She said that it doesn't matter whether Arulmozhi returned her emotions or not . She would continue to love him till her very last breath."
Aditha smiled hearing this declaration of the Kodumbalur Ilavarasi . He was right then. Vanathi is absolutely selfless and madly in love with his brother. But unfortunately Arulmozhi is hellbent on ignoring her love struck gazes. What is wrong with his siblings? They were both smart and intelligent, brilliant in fact, in everything. Except love, it seemed.
" Ah sounds like something the light of Kodumbalur would say. Unfortunately, our stupid brother doesn't appreciate a gem like her, but I think I can understand her point of view."
“Explain it to me, Anna. Please. I want to understand. I want to understand her better, and you better. Please?”
Kundavai was trembling with overwhelming emotions.
" Kundavai ,calm down, kuzhandhai,”  Aditha rubbed her sister's hand to calm her down
" You will get all these answers once you fall deeply and madly in love with someone. Love is more powerful than any other force in this world, it has the capacity to make or break one. It's the reason behind the survival of humankind. The power of love is what keeps us alive , it supplies us with hope in the darkest of times. There is an unexplainable kind of happiness in giving up and sacrificing for the one you love. You may say I am a mad man to still keep my hopes up , but it's better to be an emotional fool than a logical one. It's better to die for love than to live a life devoid of one. If someone gives me the option to choose between death in the arms of my beloved or death in the battlefield. I will always choose the former. Because at least I will be able to see the yearning and love in my beloved's eyes for one last time. I will die knowing that my love , my agony, was not in vain. And at least in my brief period of time on this Earth, I was able to experience this ethereal feeling."
" I don't know what you are saying, Anna,” Kundavai answered, confused by Aditha's monologue. He seemed to be answering her, but going beyond that.
" What do you mean by dying in the arms of your beloved? Why are you even talking about dying?"
" It's hypothetical, kanna," Aditha replied as he wiped away his tears.
" Don't worry, there will be a time when you will understand what I mean, and I have a gut feeling that that time is nearer than you think."
"I don't think so Ann."
"Kundavai,” Aditha put his hand on Kundavai's head
" Let me give you a little advice as your big brother. For once try to live in the moment and let go. I know you have to become an adult and an older sibling to Arul when I abandoned you and I am extremely sorry for that. But don't refuse yourself the small joys of life. You are allowed to act childish and make mistakes. For once let your heart rule over your head , look around there is love all around you , try to embrace that love thangaiye!"
" But Anna, this is not possible,” Kundavai whispered under her breath.
" Stop caring about your duty alone for once Kundavai. There is much more to life than duty and rules. One can always balance duty and passion if they want to. People rarely receive love in their lifetime, even if they search the whole universe for it. Your Lucky that love itself has come to your doorsteps searching for you. Don't let that go to waste kanna, you will regret it."
"I don't know what to do Anna,” Kundavai replied as a sob broke out in her throat. "I have never been this confused Anna , never."
"Kundavai, you do know it is okay to not have the answer for everything, right?” Aditha clicked his tongue.
"Can we please leave this topic Anna?" Kundavai pleaded to Aditha. " It has been so long since we last met. I don't want to spend this precious moment crying.”
"Do you want to discuss Arul and his stupidity?"
A mischievous smile spread across Aditha's face.
“Anna! It's serious! I am worried about him and Vanathi, and you are laughing?" Kundavai gasped in disbelief
"What else do you want me to do kanna? He is behaving like an Idiot around Vanathi. How can he not realize that he is madly in love with her? How did he end up being this stupid when it comes to love, he is my brother for god's sake!"
" He is in love with Vanathi? Are you sure Anna?” A glimmer of hope rises in Kundavai's heart.
"Of course he is!"
"But Poonkuzhali?"
"Ah Poonkuzhali,” Aditha sighed. "She is a beautiful woman , any man will be lucky to get her . But our Arul is not that lucky man, he is definitely not in love with her. But she is madly in love with him and that can cause a problem for us."
" Problem? What problem can she cause? Especially when Arul is not in love with her?"
Aditha stood up to face the window in front of his room looking down to the garden of the Vihara, where his brother stood bantering with the Kodumbalur ilavarasi, a smile shining on his golden countenance.
" Jealousy can make people do many things, Kundavai. I , myself, am a prime example of that. I think you should speak with her, make her see some sense."
" Me? But why?"- Kundavai questioned as she came to stand behind her brother
" Because she reminds me of you"- Aditha turned to face his sister.
" A stubborn, burning flame. You can handle her better than we do , just make her understand the reality of her situation and please don't threaten her. It will just make the situation worse."
" I will try my best,” Kundavai answered as she approached the door
" Kundavai!"
Kundavai turned around to face her brother . The light of the descending sun is falling on Aditha Karikalan's face illuminating his features, Kundavai can see tears shining like pearls in the corner of her Anna's eyes.
"Give love a chance, it will not disappoint you."

PS-1 made me read the books and (SPOILERS for the second movie), there is a whole MOMENT happening when Vandiyathevan and Arulmozhi are stuck in the sea.
“By the time he clawed his way to awareness, it was light. Day seemed to have broken; the sun had undoubtedly risen somewhere – but where exactly, Vandhiyathevan seemed unable to decipher. He blinked away the mists of oblivion to notice the prince gazing at him with deep, if exhausted affection. “Land must be close, my friend,” he murmured. “I glimpsed the top of a coconut tree just now. Patience – just a while more!” “You ought to leave me to my fate, your highness,” Vandhiyathevan pleaded, again. “Let me go – save yourself –” “Don’t – don’t say that. You ought to know by now that I’d never give you up – ah, was that a voice?” The prince raised a head that seemed unaccountably heavy, and peered across the water. “Someone singing …”

He first saw him when the Earth was closest to Jupiter.
Fiery red with blood dripping from his lashes, youth crippled by venom; the Chola's Crown Prince was a sight for any sore eyes.
And damn if Vanthiyadevan's poor eyes weren't sore enough for the entire kingdom.
His heart stopped when their eyes met. Vanthiyadevan beamed, wearing his tender heart at his sleeve, never rolled in; naked for everyone to see.
There was a curious tilt to the Prince's perfect lips, one which Vanthiyadevan would swear for decades, was the first smile that graced his highness face after so long. And he was the reason for it.
True or not, later during their years of kinship, Vanthiyadevan would indeed be the reason for many smiles and even countless laughter that decorated the broken prince.
He couldn't cure, but he did try his best.

Karthi in Chola Multiverse
So, I was doing some reading on the Chola dynasty last night and stumbled across this piece of information.
Karthi aka our favorite Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyadevan had played a Chola descendant in modern day named Muthu in the 2010 movie Aayirathil Oruvan. This literally blew my mind 🤯🤯🤯!!!
I have seen at the very least fifty interviews, press meets of the cast for both PS- 1 and PS -2. And NOBODY...literally NOBODY thought of asking Karthi about working on 2 movies (technically 3) on the history of Chola empire.
(How I wish I was an interviewer and had the opportunity to ask questions to the cast 😩!)
After I thought about this fact, I realized this opens a floodgate of ideas for great stories.
This fact literally DEMANDS a Vanthiyadevan X MUTHU MULTIVERSE FANFICTION!!
Imagine the possiblities...

Kaavyam- Chapter One: Love and Longing
@vibishalakshman and I are heree with chapter 1!
***
Vishva handed in his latest case, smirking at Varun. And he thought he couldn't solve it. The other man shook his head and went back to zoning out.
"You better not be thinking about my sister." He said, walking over to him.
Varun blushed. "Like you're not thinking about Jeevika."
Vishva spluttered.
“Why would I be thinking of Jeevika? She’s just a good friend.”
“Oh? A good friend you like baking with?”
Vishva felt a blush form on his neck, and his cheeks darkened. He groaned, seeing the smirk on Varun’s face.
"I know you like her." He teased.
So what if he did? She had never been interested in him as anything more than a friend. He was lucky she didn't call him her brother like she did with Anna. He shuddered at the thought.
Vishva could feel the concern on Varun’s face, and he shook his head.
“It’s nothing, Varun… I just.”
“But why don’t you tell her Vishva? Try?”
“No Varun. Let it be, please?”
He couldn't tell her. Couldn't have the rejection upfront. He could imagine the parted lips and guilty gaze, shoulders caving in on themselves.
"I'm sorry, Vishva, but I don't feel the same way..."
She'd feel awful that she couldn't return his feelings. And the loss of her bright smile would be all his fault.
Vishva shook his head.
Being silent about his love for her was probably the best recourse. He busied himself with the next file instead, trying not to think of her doe eyes, full of sparkling laughter, all colours held in them.
He could feel Varun's sympathetic gaze on him. He didn't need anyone's pity. He tried to absorb the contents of his file but all that was going through his head was her delicate hands that he longed to touch him and soft lips that he wished would brush his. At least once.
Would she allow him to kiss her?
Just once?
But could he accept just a single kiss? Just a single touch? Would he be able to live with it?
Would he be able to live without her? Would he be able to see her be someone else's wife, carry someone else's child?
Yes, he realized, yes he would. If it meant she would never stop smiling.
With a resolute determination, he decided that he would always be there for her, and ensure she smiles, even if not because of him.
His heart pained at the thought but also rejoiced. His Jeevika would smile. He would be fine.

Aakash signed the twelfth document in the thirty minutes he had been in office. A headache was already starting to form.
Would Kaamaakshi kill him if he just went for his session with Jeevika now?
Yes. Yes she would, he decided, remembering the stern glare on his sister’s face.
This was becoming too much. The newspapers all praised him, of course, such a young man and already in lead of the business world.
He had practically toppled Vijayaraasa, head of VR Inc., from his high throne in his first year and had only gone on to be more successful than the man ever was.
As his family wanted.
But..his heart… it missed his Pandimaa, his everything.
Without her, there was no colour in his life. It is true, Jeevika’s sweet behaviour and the cheeriness of Varun did bring some happiness… but without Pandimaa… nothing felt right.
Nothing felt real.
Of course he loved his family. He loved his mother coddling him after every achievement, his father's proud face when he took on the family business, his brother crashing at his house and complaining about work, and Kaamaakshi's mother hen behavior towards him.
Still, there were some voids not even his family could fill. Things that used to be specific to them.
And that void, he knew, would never be filled without another woman.
Only his Pandimaa could fix it.
But where was she? What was she doing? Did she miss him?
How would he find her again?
He groaned. He had promised he would find her. But how? It was like she had disappeared off the face of the planet, no doubt a product of his uncle's master concealment skills.
He had lost hope long ago. Would she hate him for breaking his promise?
No. She wouldn’t, he decided. For she would know his heart. He had searched.
But had never been able to…wait!
Would Vishva help? His brother adored him.
But how could he use his little brother that way?
No no. He couldn’t do that.
He leaned back in his chair, glancing at the calender on the wall. It had been nearly seven years since he last saw her. Where had time gone?
His eyes suddenly snatched on an upcoming dinner his father had planned in his honor. He had forgotten about that! He didn't even have a suit!
He dialed Jeevika quickly.
“Hello? Hi Anna!” Her happy voice filled his ears.
“Jeevi, I forgot to get a suit for the function! And if I ask my sister…”
“I already bought one and kept it ready for you,” she sounded fond and exasperated, making him laugh.
“Thank you, little sister. Blueberry muffins on Saturday?”
“It’s a deal Anna! See you for your session!” They said their byes and cut the call.
What would he do without her? He really wished his idiot brother would hurry up and ask her out. She was practically part of the family already, might as well make it legal and official.
Legal? Gods, he really needed a break from all these contracts.
“Anna?”
He looked at the entrance, surprised to see Kaamaakshi.
“Kaams? Is everything okay?”
“Want to go for pancakes?” She asked casually, looking at him hopefully.
Pancakes? Something was seriously wrong.
“Let’s go,” he said, concern shining in his eyes as he silently followed his sister.
****
Varun was in love. At least he could admit it to himself unlike a CERTAIN FRUSTRATING BEST FRIEND. Whether or not she knew that was different. Still, he tried to make it obvious.
But he knew she didn’t want to acknowledge it for some reason. Her wits, her banter, even her eyes… they told him she too had feelings for him. But why would she not admit it?
Kaamaakshi, Kaamaakshi, Kaamaakshi... enchanting eyes indeed. The most beautiful ones he had ever seen, he'd give the world to have them look at him and say 'I love you', freely, just once.
He glanced at the magazine Jeevika was reading beside him. "Fashion? Again?"
“Yes Varun. I just want to know more, you know? Maybe dress better?”
“Dress better? For what reason?” He peered at a now red Jeevika.
“Ah I see,” he smirked. “Vishva hmm?”
He laughed, snatching the magazine from her. The word 'Authentic Madurai' was scrawled at the bottom of each page. He flipped through them.
"Ohh, this is that fashion designer you're obsessed with." He paused at a page of sheer half sarees and smirked at her, "I bet Vishva would looove these."
"He's into girls who show skin."
'He's into Jeevika showing skin' he thought silently.
"Is that the same girl you contacted for Aakaash's suit?
“It actually is,” Varun said, nodding. “She simply sent it, it was so sweet of her.”
“So sweet? Of whom?”
Vishva turned up, and Jeevika had stopped paying attention to anything else.
Vishva smiled at her and the two got lost in each other's eyes. Varun smirked.
"I'm gonna go get something to eat."
Both of them replied to him with waves of their hands, already immersed in conversation with loads of eye contact.
They were insufferable. That’s what they were!
He wished he and Kaamaakshi would be like that. He smiled to himself, thinking about his Kaamaakshi.
Maybe he would ask her or tomorrow. But first he had to get out before Vishva and Jeevika started having eye sex.
