I wish I could say I was shocked by Americans being shitty about people in other countries having different money systems, but being born and raised in the US, a lot of Americans really are just poorly trained and insist on making that everyone else's problem(as you already know).

So, story time! A few years ago I got the pleasure of getting to spend a week in Sweden, since my sister was getting married there. So, first city we visited was Stockholm. All the signs and advertising was in Swedish, with English translation underneath. Which, okay, sure. Wasn't expecting even that much but Stockholm is a big city and kind of a tourist hotspot so, makes sense.

Second town we visited was Vaxholm, where everything is in Swedish with no English translation. And some of the folks in our travel party threw an absolute FIT. Like, they were straight up acting like the entire town of Vaxholm had collectively slapped their mothers and I'm just standing there like "????" you're in SWEDEN, the signs all being in SWEDISH should have been the default expectation?? I don't talk to these folks at all for various reasons if I can help it and that was a very big reason. My sis-in-law and I were both ready to dump them into the Baltic Sea by the end of the trip lol

we did stockholm (and vaxholm) and gothenburg which I didn’t get to last time! so much good food and wonderful sights. I just love swedish culture so much.

my only complaint (other than the wings games which we won’t talk about—I’m waiting on reparations in the form of sexual favors from JT Compher for making me fly all that way to watch those performances) is that I didn’t get to speak as much swedish as I wanted. I’ve been learning for 2 years but just got too nervous and chickened out every time!
