Don't book too many demos Yes, there are too many ERP software demos with too many enterprise resource planning vendors. "When I'm at the end of a presentation, I usually ask my prospects how many other vendors they're looking for," says Dave. "If Buzz is one of five kids, I know they've done their homework. The worst thing is they say, 'You and 20 other people.' 'That tells me they don't know what they want." Change is difficult and maybe a little scary, but if you're in the market for a new ERP system, change is exactly what you want. Stakeholders responsible for watching all these presentations will find it difficult to remember valuable points of difference among so many different options. Scheduling an ERP presentation with more than five vendors is a waste of everyone's time and, frankly, a drain on their sanity, something that can easily be avoided by reducing the number of potential vendors with an hour or two of independent research.
Provide timely information during the appointment call When a sales representative contacts you to gauge your interest in an introductory presentation, he or she isn't just making a "yes" or "no" call. If you agree to sell, a good rep will also ask about any of the following and maybe more: The size of your business. Number of employees. The number of licenses you want to purchase. Clarify information about your business. Why are you in the ERP software market? Taking the time to answer these questions will benefit you in the long run. The sales representative will relay this information to the team members planning to present your presentation. Your answers will guide them to what you hope to achieve by investing in your ERP system. They will then focus their presentation entirely on those goals. Don't be afraid to speak up A typical introductory presentation, like the one we did, takes 60 to 90 minutes. We want to respect your time and understand that your workday is more than just our presentation. However, this demo time is at your disposal. When the speaker piques your interest, ask them to elaborate. But remember that the door swings in both directions. Dave said, "Don't ask me to spend my time showing you something that isn't right for your business now or will never be right for your business.". "I want to spend a whole hour or so showing the audience the software that makes the most sense to them."
Save the details for the next step A presentation is just that, a presentation of form, fitness, and functionality. For example, in a demo, we'll show you how quickly can turn a sales order into a work order, or run a generic but relevant process based on what we know the industry needs. However, more on that later. Dave said, "Demo is not implementation.". "Sometimes, people struggle with whether the software will check every check box, where the document will be printed, or who will notify whom when this or that happens. Leave these more detailed questions for implementation or more in-depth follow-up demonstrations." If you and your team want to see more after your initial presentation, your presenter may ask you for some samples or fake data. There's nothing huge, complex, or sensitive - to the machine manufacturer, it's just one or two components, so we can give you a deeper look at exactly where the part ID and other values are on the interface in subsequent demonstrations.
Expect (and forgive) the differences in your current process Change is difficult and maybe a little scary, but if you're in the market for a new ERP system, change is exactly what you want.
