Translation from Gyakuten Saiban Fan Book
Tumblr media
What sort of person is Phoenix Wright?!
How does the producer of the trilogy, Mr. Inaba, view the main character, Phoenix Wright? And what about the character designer, Mr. Iwamoto, who voiced Wright's rival, Miles Edgeworth? What's his opinion on the matter?
Mr. Inaba's comments
Interviewer: I'd like to ask you about what type of guy you think Wright is. Let's start with his birthday.
Inaba: Wright always seems chipper, so perhaps he was born in the spring?
Iv: That might be why that pink sweater suited him so well (lol). What about his living situation?
Ia: I feel like Maya probably swipes the money he makes at his law firm, so Wright is poor. He probably lives in a really basic apartment.
Iv: So his cell phone is probably not the latest model, but rather…
Ia: It's probably a previous generation one that he's used for a long time. Like one of the ones with a green display (lol). He can't afford a new one.
Iv: He's very working class, then (lol).
Ia: I definitely think he is. There's no doubt in my mind. He's got no money. I don't even want to imagine a posh Wright (lol).
Iv: How mean (lol). If he's really that low on funds, then I imagine he doesn't have much money to spare on hobbies.
Ia: He doesn't seem like the type to be particularly interested in music, and since he's poor, he probably can't afford CDs. If he does listen to music, it's probably just whatever is playing on the radio as he hangs out at the fishing pond.
Iv: So you see him as the type of guy who goes to the fishing pond?
Ia: if he did fish as a hobby, I can see him doing it in a pond or something. He's definitely not the sport fishing type.
Iv: You make him sound like he has a typical working class, chill lifestyle.
Ia: I don't see him as the type to spend most of his time indoors though. He probably plays catch or walks his dog… I think that kind of thing suits him best.
Iv: His dog is a mutt, of course?
Ia: Probably a mix of Japanese breeds. He either found the dog abandoned somewhere, or it just happened to wander into his office, or Maya forced it on him so he ended up keeping it.
Iv: Last question: what do you think Wright's type is?
Ia: Probably the dominant type. After all, he dated Dahlia and worked for Mia (lol).
Mr. Iwamoto's comments
Iv: So about Wright's birthday, when do you think it is?
Iwamoto: Maybe in May? I think it'd be funny if it were the same as Takumi-san's. Maybe his blood type and birthplace are the same as Takumi-san's too?
Iv: Inaba-san had an image of Wright consistent with a working class guy, but what do you think?
Iw: No objections (lol). He doesn't seem like he'd spend much money on his clothes. At the very least, I think he has the type of personality where it wouldn't be unusual to see him outdoors.
Iv: It's hard to imagine him wearing expensive brand-name outfits, isn't it?
Iw: He probably wears jeans, but not like the vintage kind. He probably sleeps in a t-shirt and boxers. Come to think of it, Suekane-san doodled Wright in a sweatshirt once, so he might be the type to wear sweatshirts.
Iv: So what about sports?
Iw: Maybe field soccer? If you put the word "field" in front of a sport, it sounds more working class. Like "field baseball."
Iv: He sounds totally working class, just like Inaba-san's image. Do you think he gets together with a bunch of friends and plays a rowdy game of field soccer?
Iw: I wonder. Wright seems like the type of guy who doesn't have a lot of friends somehow. His only soccer buddy is Larry Butz, so he plays just with him. They'd be like "You play goalie next, ok?" They'd take turns doing penalty shootouts… jeez, that's depressing (lol). In contrast to Wright, Larry seems like he'd be more shy around other people. He probably doesn't remember any of those people's names (lol).
Iv: In terms of physical build, Wright has more of a swimmer's body than a soccer player body. His shoulders are broad.
Iw: Suekane-san drew him pretty burly in the first game, didn't she? I tried to keep that image when I drew him. But if you really want to know what Wright's body type is like, you can find out by having Takumi-san strip for you (lol). I think Wright is highly influenced by Takumi-san himself.

I finally finished #2 from my sporty Hetalia drawing poll - Japan!
I had a nice little sketch ready to just finish up, but then I become immersed in vintage Japanese baseball cards and just had to try to make my sketch into one. I think it came out...okay ^^;

The Ever Changing Fashion Country: China
~
Written by: Megan Heng, CSULB
Welcome back to the World of Asian Fashion! This week, we will be diving into China, specifically exploring the vintage scene and overall trending fashion of this country.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Several hot styles are trending such as American Retrocore, described as “popular kid on campus” American aesthetic. The typical outfit combo includes the iconic letterman jacket, blue jeans, baseball caps, and sneakers, or a preppy aesthetic with v-neck sweaters and plaid mini skirts. Another famous trend in China called Athflow is described as “professional enough for the office” yet “comfy enough for the couch.” Essentially, it is athleisure wear with a hint of sophistication, including an oversized blazer or trench coat, paired with cozy sweatpants and chunky sneakers for on-the-go comfort. The Old Money trend is booming in China, characterized by fancy oxford shirts, tweed blazers, and cardigans, in order to portray class and elegance. Additionally, the New Chinese Style trend is currently gaining popularity with Chinese trendsetters spicing up their outfits, incorporating traditional Chinese elements, such as embroidery, silk, and qipao-inspired dresses. The Cityboy trend focuses on simplicity, combining several elements of Japanese, American, and Gorpcore in earthy tones, portraying a comfortable urban aesthetic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Streetwear is incredibly popular with famous urban areas, Shanghai and Beijing featuring dynamic street fashion with a mix of local/international taste. Historically speaking, the Vintage Fashion scene in China has been stunted due to fears of counterfeiting, superstitions, and portraying lack of wealth. However, with evolving consumer attitudes, increasing environmental awareness, and China’s Youth, Vintage fashion is perceived as a trendy lifestyle choice. Young Chinese generations today are more involved with distinct cultures, encouraging vintage consumption towards sustainability.

This fashion forward country, China, is ever changing with popular trends and the rise of vintage fashion. Next week, we will be exploring Japanese fashion overall!
XOXO

I agreed to meet Aratame a few years ago at our mutual friend, Tomoko’s adamant insistence. Tomoko, having worked with us both, had reason to believe we’d get on like a house on fire, and when she arranged a dinner for us to meet, and as soon we started talking about obscure cameras, Polaroid film, iconic typewriter design, vinyl records, our favorite 80’s gadgets, toys, movies, and cars, all manner of sophomoric comedic pranks or borderline juvenile fashion trends that neither of us seemed to outgrow, music, books, baseball cards and so on, trading stories of adolescent antics and subversive subculture, it became evident that we had grown up with parallel existences despite being on opposite sides of the planet, and that we’d likely become good pals. Whenever I stumble into question about, say, a particular Japanese-only market Sony walkman or an apparently very rare and highly-coveted vintage Casiotone Keyboard, Aratame is who I call. If I want to know about Japanese New Wave, City Pop, or “Mentai Rock,” or about the highly collected soundtracks from the 70’s hit Crime show, Daitokai (pictured here), Aratame is who will know. If I’m searching info for modding a Technics 1200 for high gauge interconnects, or if I’m trying to source an ever elusive Sound Burger, Aratame always has an answer. In fact, the 1200MII /M44G combo that I listen to my every record on, was incredibly graciously provided by Aratame for free cuz he had an extra that he wasn’t using. Now THAT’S a DUDE! So needless to say, I am thrilled to feature Aratame on Tokyo Record Style! We made a quick last-minute dash to Flash Disk Ranch in Shimokita before meeting for end-of-year bonnenkai dinner with kindred spirit, DJ Bemsha and homie-cupid who introduced us, Tomoko. Now our unlikely little gang is called “The Tomokodachis” all of whom I’m looking forward to seeing more of in 2023. #Tokyo #record #style #tokyorecordstyle #records #music #recordcollector #recordstore #vinyl #vinylcollector #vinylrecords #vinylrecordl #Funk #Soul #StageandScreen #SoundTrack #TV #daitokai (at フラッシュ・ディスク・ランチ) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmkaSKTOuYB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

𝙾𝙱𝚂𝙲𝚄𝚁𝙴 𝙷𝙴𝙰𝙳𝙲𝙰𝙽𝙾𝙽𝚂.
WHAT THEY SMELL LIKE. Leather and sunshine on a good day, cigarettes on a really bad one. On late nights that’ve either been really fun or really dreadful, he may also smell suspiciously of whatever was going on at his favourite bar, Tender (see: other miscellaneous cigarette brands, and maybe the distinct alcohol scent if he’s downed enough). Takayuki doesn’t wear cologne unless he’s going to the courtroom or a date that makes him nervous, and even then he goes for more subtle scents than anything that’s right in your face. He’s got a typically nice scent overall as long as he hasn’t been overworking himself to death.
HOW THEY SLEEP. SLEEPING POSITION. SCHEDULE. ETC… Takayuki sleeps deeply and easily, contrary to popular belief. He has the ability to fall asleep anywhere at any time-- the only issue is if a) he’s busy; and b) he has enough means to continue his work that taking breaks of any kind won't make him feel guilty. He likes to sleep on his back, and depending on the time of day he does it, he’ll throw his arm over his eyes to block it from the light. He prefers to get a couple of hours at a time, but he’s not immune to downing a can of coffee, passing out for fifteen minutes, and then going through hell on the otherworldly merits of the power nap. He knows the merits of sleep and he tries his best to get it... the weird schedules of a private investigator just get in the way sometimes.
WHAT MUSIC THEY ENJOY. For Japanese music, literally anything as long as it sounds good. He leans towards music that uses “real” instruments instead of purely digital or synthetic noise, though. For English music, he likes things typically called “dad rock”. The fact his portable music device of choice is a classic Walkman that plays cassette tapes probably doesn’t help this image, either. (Incidentally, Takayuki’s written his own stuff, and it’s mostly acoustic guitar-related nonsense inspired by rock. You know you’ve got a real in with him if you know about that.)
HOW MUCH TIME THEY SPEND GETTING READY EACH MORNING. This depends wildly on his already unreliable schedule. Takayuki’s the type of person who can just brush his teeth, wash his face, and get going... and even then, he can skip the face-washing, deal with his teeth, and dash out the door. Preferably he likes to spend at least an hour so he can brew coffee just the way he likes it (he’s particular and snobby, even if he’ll never be snobby out loud), have some breakfast (even if it’s some cheap rice, natto, and egg), shower, and brush his teeth. He’s not picky about clothes, though, especially since his fashion sense these days boils down to “grab the nearest tank top, a pair of jeans, and go”.
FAVOURITE THING TO COLLECT. Vintage video game-related things, whether consoles or the actual games themselves. It’s a real problem that eats into his bank account when the person selling the thing actually knows the value of what they’re selling. Takayuki bought a pinball machine once just because he saw it was on sale on the Internet and it was such a steal he couldn’t not have it.
LEFT OR RIGHT HANDED. Born right-handed, trained to be ambidextrous.
FAVOURITE SPORT(S). Baseball, and his favourite team’s the Giants. Takayuki’s not just into keeping up with the news on the league, though, and is known to volunteer his time coaching little league teams when he can (he helped a teacher at Nishishinjuku Elementary once and has had “she invites me to New Year’s dinner if I don’t have any other plans” privileges ever since). The guy’s nearly been scouted by a pro for a team after watching him swing at Kamurocho’s local batting centre as well, but by then he was too attached to his detective business to really go through with it.
FAVOURITE TOURISTY THING TO DO WHEN TRAVELLING. Takayuki likes to research all the budget-friendly ways to travel beforehand, and if he’s sightseeing he sticks to schedules if only so he can see everything. If it’s a lazier type of trip, though, then he just likes to eat and walk, so long as he’s not spending a lot of money. He also really, really, really likes to take pictures. Everything is important to remember, after all.
FAVOURITE KIND OF WEATHER. Give him early spring weather any time, when things’re about to get warmer but it’s still a little cold from winter. Feeling the sun on his face and the cool air is a special kind of gift.
WEIRD / OBSCURE FEAR THEY HAVE. Nothing weird, really. Nothing scares him enough to stop him in his tracks, either, but he’ll probably hesitate if he has to deal with ghosts or spirits or anything related to the other side. The dead deserve to rest, not have idiots traipsing in on their business... but if he can find a way to help them find peace, that’s another story. A story that’ll give him the creeps, sure, but he’s never one to stay away.
THE CARNIVAL / ARCADE GAME THEY ALWAYS WIN WITHOUT FAIL. For carnival games, as long as it’s something that requires aiming and hitting something, Takayuki’s got the skill for it. For arcade games, though? He wins everything. Seriously. Takayuki chose Yagami Tantei’s location because it was near a Club SEGA... and also because his landlady was offering rent for cheap after he saved her dog, but you know how that goes. You’ll see a “TAK” on most of the leaderboards on Nakamichi St.’s Club SEGA just because he’s territorial about his #1 spot, and every time he sees it replaced he won’t hesitate to blow however much cash he has to get his spot back. Fortunately, he’s good enough at them that it’s never broken the bank.

Shohei Ohtani La's Greatest Sho On Earth Shirt - Shibtee Clothing
Shohei Ohtani is widely considered one of the greatest baseball players of his generation. As both an elite pitcher and power hitter, his two-way talents are virtually unprecedented in modern Major League Baseball. This t-shirt from Shibtee Clothing pays homage to Ohtani's unique skills and status as Los Angeles' most exciting athlete.
printed in English and Japanese text, the front prominently features Ohtani's name and number alongside the phrase "LA's Greatest Sho On Earth". This play on words references Ohtani's given name Shohei while also making note of his prolific home run hitting for the Angels. A vintage baseball silhouette graphic positioned below complements the old-timey feel of the design. The reverse side simply displays the Shibtee Clothing logo for brand recognition.
Made from 100% cotton, this slim fit t-shirt will feel soft and breathable during warm Southern California days at - m75j9kw47j
