Six Songs Soundtrack Game
Borrowed this one from someone, was collecting dust in the drafts quite a long time so forgot who it was (my apologies), but found it interesting to try and brainstorm myself what's cooking in his playlist
OC: Vincent Emmanuel Andar von Valancius
Tumblr media
Rules: If you're tagged, make a new post with links to music and/or lyrics describing the following:
Event that defines your character's past:
Run Boy Run — Woodkid
Run boy run! The sun will be guiding you Run boy run! They're dying to stop you Run boy run! This race is a prophecy Run boy run! Break out from society
A rebellious estranged child of the Imperium, he never fitted into the society, never tried to in fact. And always strived to wriggle his ass out of the system. Stealing something not meant for his eyes, then escaping the detention and imprisonment by a sudden sheer luck, he got forever excommunicated from the family, a pivotal moment that would shape his entire life.
How your character sees themselves:
Des Rocks — Used to the Darkness
I'm just a man, I'm only flesh and bone I can't bring it back on everything I've done And now there's no one else left to love I'm used to the darkness, I'm used to the darkness
Filled up with own regrets, he closes himself off, trying to accomodate with the emptiness in him, the loss of his past life and love, and balancing on the razor's edge.
How others view them:
The Brothers Bright — Me and Mine
Evil men like a spring without water Betrothed to the piety They cheer and toast to the Holy Ghost But just won't let me be I will burn your kingdom down If you try to conquer me and mine
A song that summaries him very well. He's a stubborn brat, holds his ground firm, a man ever defiant. He denounces both the God and the Devil who are trying to lay their claim on him.
Their closest relationship (platonic or romantic):
Sleep Token — Rain
I'm coiled up like the venomous serpent Tangled in your trance and I'm certain You have got your hooks in me
Solomorne's romance theme, who managed to dismantle his walls and defences Vincent built to see the real him. Progressing into the game, overcoming the changes inside, Solomorne becomes his lifeline.
A major fight scene:
Sleep Token — Even In Arcadia
I am the Final Dawn, I am the Flood And what was missin' from those scriptures will be written in my blood Dig down into the mud What good is all this talk of wings when there is nothing left above? Have you been waitin' long For me?
His final face off with Uralon and the Edge of Daybreak in Act 4. Getting unwillingly thrown into a path of Chaos, hanging up on every offers and promises, like a trapped wolf he tries to chew off his own leg to escape and pays the enormous price to cleanse himself. He values his freedom above all else he'd be willing to make enemies with all literal gods possible to keep himself unchained. The boa finally growing the poisonous fangs and becoming the Viper.
End credits song:
Alcest — Le miroir
C'est pourquoi mon âme est sombre — That’s why my soul is dark Comme les fleuves de l'Erebe — Like the rivers of the Underworld Et les sources de la nuit — And the springs of the night C'est pourquoi je réfléchis — That’s why I reflect Le ciel d'azur et la lumière — The azure sky and the light Tout ce qui passe tout ce qui change Everything that passes, everything that changes
Vinlaynes' theme, weathering the storm hand in hand. The sad guitar leitmotif in the end (04:25) is absolutely theirs.
Tagging @infernaldaydreams @nadas-dirthalen @fenlirias if any of you are interested to share your playlists goodness :3

I'm   here   to   talk   about   a   lesser   known   title   of   Saint's:   the   title   that   almost   guarantees   there's   at   least   one   existence   spawned   from   the   waters   of   nu   in   the   layers   of   the   duat   that   will   have   a   very   bad   Saint   walking   around   in   full   Set   fashion.   a   golden   destiny   doesn't   differentiate   between   good   and   bad,   only   power   and   an   aptitude   for   achieving   it.   destiny   rewards   &   punishes   in   equal   measure,   it   is   an   honor   and   a   looming   sword   to   be   controlled.
Tumblr media
Saint,   the   Serpent   Eater,   the   Swallower   of   Apep—his   title   is   no   mere   honorific.   It   is   a   truth   carved   into   the   marrow   of   his   being.   He   has   not   merely   destroyed   chaos;   he   has   consumed   it,   swallowed   it   whole,   and   now   it   writhes   within   him,   reshaping   him   with   each   passing   breath.   His   sanctuary—the   endless,   shifting   waters   of   Nu—has   become   both   a   cradle   and   a   crucible,   dissolving   the   boundaries   between   divinity,   monstrosity,   and   self.   Each   time   he   emerges,   he   is   less   the   man   he   was   and   more   the   thing   he   is   becoming.
His   form   is   wrong.   His   body   is   painted   in   infernal   hues,   black   and   red   like   raw   wounds   and   scorched   flesh,   a   living   scripture   of   something   that   should   not   be.   Beneath   his   skin,   veins   of   bioluminescent   crimson   pulse   and   shimmer   like   molten   rivers,   shifting   in   patterns   of   unknowable   language.   The   glow   intensifies   when   he   moves,   seeping   from   the   hollows   of   his   form—his   collarbones,   his   ribs,   the   curve   of   his   throat—casting   an   eerie,   malevolent   light   that   makes   his   silhouette   seem   to   flicker   and   distort   like   a   mirage.
From   his   temples,   a   radiant   red   glow   emanates,   like   the   embers   of   a   dying   star,   casting   his   face   in   a   grotesque   and   unholy   halo.   But   it   is   his   skin   that   truly   betrays   what   he   has   become.   Patches   of   serpentine   scales   spread   across   his   form   in   irregular   patterns,   textured   and   ridged   like   those   of   an   African   bush   viper.   They   are   deep,   abyssal   black   edged   with   iridescent   crimson,   shimmering   like   oil   slicks   under   shifting   light.   Across   his   shoulders,   down   his   arms,   curling   over   his   ribs,   they   grow,   creeping   across   him   more   with   each   emergence,   as   if   claiming   more   of   his   flesh   for   the   thing   inside   him.
Horns   curl   from   his   head,   sharp   and   ridged   like   those   of   the   viper   whose   scales   now   pattern   his   flesh,   winding   back   in   sinuous   spirals   before   tapering   to   wicked   points.   They   gleam   darkly,   their   edges   kissed   with   the   same   glowing   red   that   seeps   from   his   bioluminescent   skin,   as   if   they   are   not   just   bone   but   something   alive.   He   hates   them.   He   hates   how   they   make   his   reflection   unbearable,   how   they   mark   him   as   something   that   cannot   be   mistaken   for   human.
His   tongue—no   longer   singular,   no   longer   wholly   his—has   taken   on   the   texture   of   something   eldritch,   its   surface   lined   with   soft   barbs   that   make   the   speech   of   the   old   tongue   effortless.   Two   additional   appendages,   layered   like   laurel   leaves,   split   from   the   main   one—tentacle-like,   curling   beneath   and   around   it,   slithering   with   a   mind   of   their   own.   They   flex   when   he   speaks,   shaping   sound   in   ways   beyond   mortal   comprehension,   forming   words   older   than   breath,   older   than   language   itself.   It   makes   speech   feel   foreign,   wrong—his   own   voice   now   a   betrayal.
And   then   there   are   the   serpents.   They   slip   from   his   flesh   like   living   parasites,   emerging   from   his   torso,   writhing   and   coiling   across   his   chest   in   a   mockery   of   modesty.   Their   scales—black   as   the   void,   kissed   with   red   iridescence—shift   as   they   move,   tongues   flickering   as   if   whispering   secrets   to   his   skin.   They   do   not   merely   rest   upon   him;   they   grow   from   him,   their   bodies   extensions   of   his   own.   He   cannot   cut   them   away.   He   has   tried.
But   perhaps   the   most   unnerving   of   all   is   his   multiplicity.   His   body   holds   ten   arms,   yet   they   do   not  always   exist   at   once.   They   can   fold   into   him,   disappearing   into   the   abyss   of   his   form   as   though   they   never   were,   only   to   unfurl   again   in   an   instant,   coiling   out   like   shadows   given   flesh.   When   hidden,   his   silhouette   remains   deceptively   human,   a   trick   of   perception,   a   lie   his   body   tells   the   world.   But   when   he   wills   them   forth,   they   bloom   from   his   torso   like   unfolding   nightmares—long,   sinuous,   and   jointed   like   the   limbs   of   something   that   should   not   walk   in   the   light.   Each   one   moves   independently,   guided   by   will   and   instinct   alike,   weaving   through   the   air   with   an   unnatural   grace.
His   form   is   not   the   form   of   a   god.   It   is   not   divine.   It   is   monstrous.
Saint   cannot   look   at   himself   without   recoiling.   He   hides   himself   beneath   his   old   skin,   shaping   himself   into   what   he   once   was,   forcing   his   flesh   to   remember   the   shape   of   the   goddess   he   should   be.   It   is   easier   that   way—to   pretend.   He   is   still   Saint,   but—well,   how   fitting   to   be   made   so   hideous,   beastly.
But   the   truth   festers   beneath   the   surface.   He   is   something   else   now.   Something   that   was   he not   meant   to   be ( or was he ?) .

Daily Devotionals for November 27, 2024
Proverbs: God's Wisdom for Daily Living
Devotional Scripture:
Proverbs 29:3-4 (KJV): 3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance. 4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it. Proverbs 29:3-4 (AMP): 3 Whoever loves skillful and godly Wisdom rejoices his father, but he who associates with harlots wastes his substance. 4 The king by justice establishes the land, but he who exacts gifts and tribute overthrows it.
Thought for the Day
Verse 3 - A man who habitually dallies with prostitutes is selfish and lustful: traits which adversely affect his entire life. Because he is without character or wisdom, he never becomes successful, and squanders his father's resources. As our societies grow in wickedness, many are tempted into sexual sin not only through prostitutes, but also through pornography. The Bible tells us to flee from all fornication, for we are not our own: "Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of a harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:15-20).
Verse 4 - A ruler either establishes the land by good judgment, or overthrows it by the corruption his evil character promotes in others. Evil leaders are more interested in the fulfilling of their own personal desires than the good of the people. Their decisions can be swayed by bribes (gifts) from unscrupulous people. A wicked king or ruler lays heavy burdens on his people, such as high taxes, in order to live luxuriously and glorify himself. There were religious rulers in Jesus' day who did the same kind of things in spiritual matters. He likened them to poisonous snakes and warned them that they were on their way to hell: "For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers...Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?" (Matthew 23:4,33).
Prayer Devotional for the Day
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for those good and righteous leaders in the world who are concerned about serving the people in a just manner. Lord, bless and protect these men and women. Give them Your wisdom in the decisions they make because they will affect many people. Father, have mercy on our land and deliver the people from the many sexual sins that are destroying our world. Lord, forgive this nation for lust, selfishness, perversion, adultery, fornication, pornography, nakedness, and all the other filthy sexual indulgences that go on daily. Cleanse us from unrighteousness and make us holy. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen. Good Morning World; 11/27/2024 6:07:25 AM. From: Steven P. In this episode, Scott and John explore the enduring influence of the Pharisees—religious leaders Jesus openly condemned for their hypocrisy. But the spirit behind their actions didn’t die in the first century. It’s alive today, operating through modern religious systems rooted in man-made tradition, spiritual blindness, and rebellion against God’s truth.
Tracing the lineage of deception from Cain to the Pharisees and forward to today’s untoward generation, the hosts reveal how false religion continues to shape doctrine, confuse believers, and prepare the world for even greater apostasy.Key Topics Covered The legacy of Cain and the origins of false worship Pharisees as religious deceivers and blind guides What Scripture calls an “untoward generation” (Acts 2:40) Dispensational distinctions: Peter’s message vs. Paul’s gospel How modern churches reflect ancient Babylonian systems The danger of religious systems that lack spiritual fruit What true worship and obedience look like in this age of grace
Scripture References (KJV) Genesis 4:1–8 – Cain’s offering and rebellion Jude 1:10–11 – The way of Cain Matthew 3:7–12 – John the Baptist rebukes the Pharisees Matthew 5:20 – Righteousness exceeding that of the Pharisees Matthew 7:15–23 – False prophets in sheep’s clothing Matthew 12:22–37 – Jesus confronts their blasphemy Matthew 23:13–15, 27–33 – Woes pronounced on the Pharisees Acts 2:38–40 – The “untoward generation” Genesis 6:9; 7:1 – Righteousness in Noah’s generation Deuteronomy 1:34–37 – Unbelief in the wilderness Hebrews 3:7–11 – Hardened hearts of a rebellious generation Ezekiel 31:3–18 – Assyrian pride and its fall Ezekiel 34:12 – God seeks His scattered sheep Proverbs 23:31–32 – The cup that bites like a serpent Acts 4:12 – The only name by which we must be saved

Takeaway Religious tradition alone will not save you. The way of Cain—rooted in pride, self-righteousness, and man-made worship—lives on through religious systems that reject God’s truth in favor of appearance and control. The Pharisees were called vipers and children of the devil for a reason: they promoted religion over righteousness.
Now more than ever, we must be discerning. True faith is evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit—justice, mercy, love—not religious performance. Stay rooted in the gospel of grace and the rightly divided Word of God.

Jesus Christ, a Messianic and Prophetic Pest:
In honoring the passing of Pope Francis I looked over some of his groundbreaking teachings and one of them that caught my attention was his appeal for Christians to be a social pest. In it he promotes social movements and community organizing. He then identifies himself in the tradition of being a social pest.
And so, I persist in my pestering. It is necessary to confront together the populist discourses of intolerance, xenophobia, and aporophobia, which is hatred of the poor. Like everything that leads us to indifference, meritocracy and individualism, these narratives only serve to divide our peoples, and to undermine and nullify our poetic capacity, the capacity to dream together.
Personally I feel like I understood well what our Holy Father meant by designating himself as a Papal pest. My reading of scripture and the portrayals of Jesus that are consistent with the Gospel presents us with a messiah who is also a social activist. Jesus openly challenges the status quo which oppressed the poor and marginalized that he identified with.
Many Christians like the movie “the Passion of the Christ” but I do not. To focus on the passion narrative and almost intentionally skip the social context of the cross misses the point entirely. This is not to say that the passion and death of Jesus is irrelevant, not at all. The passion narrative is indeed central to the Christian message, St. Paul teaches us about “the wisdom of the cross,” and tells the Corinthian community that he preaches the gospel, “so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its meaning.” (1 Cor. 1:17)
But the passion narrative only makes sense in the context of the gospel message. The gospel message is a radical message. We cannot underestimate what Jesus means by assuring us all of the love that God has for us and all of creation. That is why he confronts the social powers that be in the way he does and why they respond in kind. Franco Zeffirelli’s 1977 “Jesus of Nazareth” movie (above) developed this aspect of Jesus prophetic style. One can appreciate the way Jesus challenges authority in the way he confronts the Jewish and Roman authorities. This is what earns him the cross. His message was not some pious religious sentiment but the basis of our God-given human dignity which presented a counter-cultural movement. A dignity that, once recognized, does not allow us to accept any form of oppression and injustice. After Zeffirelli’s groundbreaking contribution I was not aware of another good example of this until “The Chosen” came out in 2017. This series, produced by Dallas Jenkins, depicts a portrait of Jesus with a prophetic (if somewhat witty) edge that again delivers us the social context that gives meaning to the cross.
youtube
The confrontation that you see here are found in Matthew 23. This takes place after Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem (which we call Palm Sunday) and the riot known as the “cleansing of the Temple.” Jesus’ action already cause great social consternations and raise a challenge to the powers that be. But in the midst of this he goes on to confront the power base even further. Consider Jesus’ own words and reflect on meaning of the cross in light of what he says.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity. [But] these you should have done, without neglecting the others. Blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel!…
…“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the memorials of the righteous, and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’ Thus you bear witness against yourselves that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets; now fill up what your ancestors measured out. You serpents, you brood of vipers, how can you flee from the judgment of Gehenna? (Matt: 23: 23-25, 29-33)
Pope Francis was a follower of Jesus in every sense of the word. This included his prophetic message where he would speak clearly and off the cuff on issues that affected the “least of these.” Pope Francis exercised his prophetic pestering with a certain gentleness that flowed from his pastoral style. Jesus, on the other hand, demonstrates a more prophetic approach to his social pestering. The Son of God is indeed the penultimate social pest. This of course is the context for why society will crucify him and this provides the meaning behind the cross. The formula goes like this:
Jesus liberates humanity and reconciles us all to the love of God.
Such dignity that transcends all tribal or ethnic identities challenges social power and society responds to Jesus and his message by crucifying him.
God however vindicates his own son and raises him from death signifying that society does not have the last word.
I am thankful for Pope Francis. He gave a voice to us theologians who recognized Jesus’ messianic divinity including his role as a social prophet and pest. He not only gave us a voice but gave us the space to promote our faith-based activism.

9th March >> Mass Readings (GB)
First Sunday of Lent (C)
(Liturgical Colour: Violet. Year: C(I))
First Reading Deuteronomy 26:4-10 The confession of faith of the chosen people.
Moses spoke to the people: ‘The priest shall take the basket from your hand and set it down before the altar of the LORD your God. And you shall make response before the LORD your God, “A wandering Aramean was my father. And he went down into Egypt and sojourned there, few in number, and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous. And the Egyptians treated us harshly and humiliated us and laid on us hard labour. Then we cried to the LORD, the God of our fathers, and the LORD heard our voice and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. And the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great deeds of terror, with signs and wonders. And he brought us into this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. And behold, now I bring the first of the fruit of the ground, which you, O LORD, have given me.” And you shall set it down before the LORD your God and worship before the LORD your God.’
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 91(90):1-2. 10-11. 12-13. 14-15. ℟ cf. 15b
R/ Be with me, O Lord, in my distress.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, and abides in the shade of the Almighty, says to the LORD, ‘My refuge, my stronghold, my God in whom I trust!’
R/ Be with me, O Lord, in my distress.
Upon you no evil shall fall, no plague approach your tent. For you has he commanded his angels to keep you in all your ways.
R/ Be with me, O Lord, in my distress.
They shall bear you upon their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone. On the lion and the viper you will tread, and trample the young lion and the serpent.
R/ Be with me, O Lord, in my distress.
Since he clings to me in love, I will free him, protect him, for he knows my name. When he calls on me, I will answer him; I will be with him in distress; I will deliver him, and give him glory.
R/ Be with me, O Lord, in my distress.
Second Reading Romans 10:8-13 The confession of faith of believers in Christ.
Brothers and Sisters: What does Scripture say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, ‘Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For, ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation Matthew 4:4b
Glory and praise to you, O Christ. One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God. Glory and praise to you, O Christ.
Gospel Luke 4:1-13 ‘Jesus was led by the Spirit in the wilderness and tempted by the devil’.
At that time: Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were over, he was hungry. The devil said to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone.” ’ And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, ‘To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘It is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.” ’ And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written, “He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you”, and “On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” ’ And Jesus answered him, ‘It is said, “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.” ’ And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.

John 3:14-15 Strangely Dim Vipers
John 3:14-15 14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes will have eternal life in Him. The holy scriptures tell me to cast all my burdens on the Lord because He will sustain me. But that promise often feels like vapor in the wind, and I am anxious, but I believe God’s word. It is because I cast my concerns…

A path of baptism
(inside & out)
by the renewal of the Spirit (within the human spirit) and by the body in earth’s water
first off, we are saved by grace alone through faith in the Son who is the Atonement for our sins (through what we believe in the heart and speak through the body declaring Yeshua, or Jesus, as our Lord and eternal King)
and this is the baptism of the Spirit (and fire) within as inner illumination and rebirth of the heart, becoming our True nature as either a son or a daughter of our heavenly Father
(we welcome the entrance of the Spirit by inviting Him into our own to abide, becoming the Spirit’s Temple)
And so, we’re not saved by being baptized in water even though it is an outward sign and witness of our faith that is still applicable for all who come to “believe…”
Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 3rd chapter of the book of Matthew:
Around the same time, a man called John began to travel, preach, and ritually wash people through baptism in the wilderness of Judea. John preached a stern but exciting message.
John: Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is near.
John’s proclamation fulfilled a promise made by the ancient prophet Isaiah, who had said, “There will be a voice calling from the desert, saying,
Prepare the road for the Eternal One’s journey;
repair and straighten out every mile of our God’s highway.”
John wore wild clothes made from camel hair with a leather belt around his waist—the clothes of an outcast, a rebel. He ate locusts and wild honey.
People from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and indeed from all around the river Jordan came to John. They confessed their sins, and they were baptized by him in the Jordan.
He told some Pharisees and Sadducees who came for the ritual baptism,
John: You children of serpents! You brood of vipers! Did someone suggest you flee from the wrath that is upon us? If you think that simply hopping in the Jordan will cleanse you, then you are sorely mistaken. Your life must bear the fruits of turning toward righteousness. Nor are you correct if you think that being descended from Abraham is enough to make you holy and right with God. Yes, the children of Abraham are God’s chosen children, but God can adopt as daughters and sons anyone He likes—He can turn these stones into sons if He likes.
Even now there is an ax poised at the root of every tree, and every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and tossed into the fire. I ritually cleanse you through baptism as a mark of turning your life around. But someone is coming after me, someone whose sandals I am not fit to carry, someone who is more powerful than I. He will wash you not in water but in fire and with the Holy Spirit. He carries a winnowing fork in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor; He will gather up the good wheat in His barn, and He will burn the chaff with a fire that cannot be put out.
And then, the One of whom John spoke—the all-powerful Jesus—came to the Jordan from Galilee to be washed by John. At first, John demurred.
John: I need to be cleansed by You. Why do You come to me?
Jesus: It will be right, true, and faithful to God’s chosen path for you to cleanse Me with your hands in the Jordan River.
John agreed, and he ritually cleansed Jesus, dousing Him in the waters of the Jordan. Jesus emerged from His baptism; and at that moment heaven was opened, and Jesus saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon Him, alighting on His very body.
Voice from Heaven: This is My Son, whom I love; this is the Apple of My eye; with Him I am well pleased.
The Book of Matthew, Chapter 3 (The Voice)
A note from The Voice translation:
Sometimes when people see John they are reminded of the last time God’s people had wandered in a wilderness—after the exodus from Egypt. John is all about wilderness. He preaches in the wilderness, and he wears clothes just like the prophet Elijah had worn. They think perhaps John is inaugurating a new exodus. Actually, that is a pretty good way to think of it. The Anointed One, whose way John comes to prepare, will call humanity away from comfort and status; He will call His followers to challenge their assumptions and the things they take for granted.
Today’s paired reading from the First Testament is the 14th and closing chapter of the book of Hosea:
Return, Israel, to the Eternal, your True God.
You’ve stumbled because of your wickedness.
Think about what to say, and come back to the Eternal One.
Say to Him, “Forgive all our sins, and take us back again.
Bring us into Your good grace so we can offer You praise and sacrifice,
the fruit of our lips.
We admit that Assyria can’t save us, nor can riding horses and chariots into battle.
We’ll never again say to idols made with our own hands, ‘You’re our gods!’
We know You’re merciful because You take care of orphans.”
Eternal One: I’ll heal their apostate hearts so they won’t turn away from Me again;
I’ll love them freely because I won’t be angry with them anymore.
I’ll be like dew that waters Israel. She’ll blossom like the lily.
She’ll put down roots like the stable cedars of Lebanon;
She’ll send out shoots until her beauty is like the olive tree
and her fragrance like the cedars of Lebanon.
The people will return from exile and sit in My shade once again;
they’ll flourish like grain; they’ll send out shoots like the vine.
And their fame will be like the wine of Lebanon.
Ephraim, what do I have in common with deaf and blind idols?
I’m the One who responds to your pleas and cares for you.
I’m like a flourishing juniper tree; I provide life year-round.
The wise will understand these things;
the perceptive will know them.
For everything the Eternal One does is right,
and the righteous follow His ways.
But those who turn against Him will stumble along His path.

A post by John Parsons about the significance (and necessity) of spiritual rebirth:
“Do not marvel that I say to you, ‘You must be born again.’” - Yeshua
====
We find ourselves “thrown” into existence, subject to historical forces and pressures over which we have no control, bound to our DNA and biochemistry, hemmed in on all sides, powerless, full of ignorance and dark impulses. Yet the more we try to disentangle ourselves from what cannot be changed, the more enmeshed we become. The natural order of life seems to be that we come forth out of the darkness of birth and return to the darkness of death - a pilgrimage of the unknown.
We need light to conquer our darkness, but we are blind. We cannot forgive ourselves or make ourselves feel loved. We can't find our way. By ourselves we cannot be delivered from fear, anger, or despair. Aristotle’s logic is tragically sound: “All people are mortals; all mortals fear death; therefore all people fear death.” We cannot escape ourselves; we cannot heal ourselves; we cannot save ourselves. Therefore all that hope believes can only be graciously given by God, for we are lost and must be found. We cannot find our way to eternal life: we must be brought home by the Good Shepherd who seeks for us.
We are saved by the miracle of divine intervention in our lives, and that alone truly changes us. This is called “regeneration” or spiritual rebirth. Just as we were powerless when we were physically brought into this world, so we are powerless when we are spiritually brought into the realm of the divine. We cannot change ourselves, that is, by our own strength or resources. Salvation is “of the LORD,” which means it is God’s power and love that sets us free. We become a “new creation” that finds its life in the blessing of the Living God. Before we see this, however, we have to become “sick of our sickness,” tired, exhausted, and utterly conscious of our need for deliverance from ourselves. We can only come to know God as our Savior when we turn to Him as our only hope.
"Unless you are born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God." We are blind until God opens our eyes. When Yeshua gave sight to a man born blind, the Pharisees concluded that he could not be a true prophet of God because he healed someone on the Sabbath day (John 9). In response Yeshua said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who 'see' may become blind." When the Pharisees heard this they asked, "Are we blind then?" and Yeshua replied: "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin, but now because you claim that you can see, your guilt remains." Likewise the Apostle Paul was made blind in order to see; he had to lose the blindness of his seeing in order to behold the truth of God's kingdom (Acts 9). As long as Paul thought he could see he remained blind, but as soon as he realized he was blind, he began to be able to see...
The difference between believers and unbelievers does not turn on the problem of sin and the condition of spiritual death - for both are in the same helpless state before God - but rather with the different responses they have toward "the light," that is, the revelation of God manifest in Yeshua. Those who love evil hate the light and turn away from its disclosure, whereas those who "do truth" love the light so that their deeds are revealed as God's power at work within their hearts (John 3:19-21; Eph. 5:13). There is an "exclusive disjunction" in the realm of the spirit: either you will love what is evil and hate the light, or you will love the light and hate what is evil. As Yeshua said: "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other" (Matt. 6:24).
Followers of Yeshua are told to “walk as children of light” / ὡς τέκνα φωτὸς περιπατεῖτε (Eph. 5:8). The children of light are called to be “am kadosh” - a holy people - separate from the evil engendered by the fallen world and its forces, just as the very first creative expression of God was the separation of light from darkness (Gen. 1:3-4). The children of light "hate evil and love the good," and conversely, the children of darkness "hate the good and love evil" (Psalm 34:21, Prov. 8:13, Amos 5:15, John 3:20-21). Regarding the heavenly Zion to come, it is written: “nothing ritually unclean will ever enter into it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or practices falsehood (lit. “makes a lie”), but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life” (Rev. 21:27).
This is the question of the gospel, after all: Are you willing to believe in the light of God's love, or not? What is your destiny? Yeshua is the light of the world, and those who follow him will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12). So, do you have “ohr ha-chayim” (אוֹר הַחַיִּים), "the light of Life," shining within your heart? The light beckons: "wake up, open your eyes, and believe" the good news: darkness and despair will not prevail; your mourning will find comfort, your grief its solace. Your heart's deepest longing shines brightly, even now, if you will but believe... Now may you find courage and remember what is written: "The LORD is my light and my salvation (i.e., my Yeshua); whom shall I fear? The LORD is the refuge of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Amen.

A Universal Message from a Singular Event
Rabbi Polonsky’s interpretation offers a profound understanding of the Exodus story. It transcends its immediate Jewish context, presenting it as a momentous event in the spiritual journey of all humankind. The revelation in Egypt was a necessary prelude to the revelation at Sinai, setting the stage for the Israelites’ mission as a light unto the nations.

The Scars of Sin
“But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.” (Judges 16:21)
The sad end of mighty Samson, who once had been so greatly energized and utilized by the Lord, is also an allegory and a grave warning to every Christian. “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death” (James 1:14-15).
Satan knows our individual weaknesses and tempts us accordingly. Many Christians have fallen into sin through some Delilah, but probably many more have fallen into sin through pride, or covetousness, or compromise, or apathy.
First, sin blinds. We are commanded to grow in Christ, adding to our initial faith the attributes of virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, kindness, and love (2 Peter 1:5-7). Otherwise, “he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins” (2 Peter 1:9).
Then, sin binds. It may not be with chains, as with Samson, but unconfessed sin quickly enslaves its practitioners. “While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage” (2 Peter 2:19).
Finally, sin grinds. Instead of the promised freedom from restraint, a sinful life soon becomes a “grind,” tedious and tasteless, like “the dog turned to his own vomit again” (2 Peter 2:22).
Samson did return to God again before his death, but he was still blind, and bound, and grinding. God forgives, but the effects of sin are not easily removed. How much better it would be never to yield to the temptation at all. HMM

The Rod Of God
One can read in the book of Exodus in the scriptures, that he gives Moses various ways in order to persuade the Israelites showing that God was on their side. Prior to the 10 plagues, God gave Moses the ability to make the Nile red when he poured it on land, to make his hand leprous when he took it out of his cloak, and to turn a snake into a staff.
The staff became known as the Rod of God. Basically, the Rod of God was the means or sign whereby God was working through Moses and shown to all. It was a visible sign (or spirit) that works for the good of the believer and against transgressors. "I plead with you, saith the Lord God. And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant: And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the Lord." Ezekiel 20:36-38. A sign from an invisible or unseen God, who works by and with his servants having an active faith in him. Jesus appeared to the eleven (As Judas hung himself on a tree and died prior to this). Mark 16:15-20 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
In Acts 2:14-37 we see that Peter as spokesman with the other disciples agreeing, preached the gospel to a representative from every nation under heaven in these verses. Verse 16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Acts 2:38-41 Peter and the others baptized the repentant believers who already asked him how to be saved in the name of Jesus. Verse 17-18. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Paul in Acts 19:11-13 did the following to confirm these signs. And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. Also in Acts 28:3-6 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

Daily Devotionals for November 27, 2023
As our societies grow in wickedness, many are tempted into sexual sin not only through prostitutes but also through pornography. The Bible tells us to flee from all fornication, for we are not our own: "Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of a harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to a harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which is God's" (1 Corinthians 6:15-20).
Verse 4 - A ruler either establishes the land by good judgment or overthrows it by the corruption his evil character promotes in others. Evil leaders are more interested in the fulfillment of their desires than the good of the people. Their decisions can be swayed by bribes (gifts) from unscrupulous people. A wicked king or ruler lays heavy burdens on his people, such as high taxes, to live luxuriously and glorify himself. There were religious rulers in Jesus' day who did the same kind of things in spiritual matters. He likened them to poisonous snakes and warned them that they were on their way to hell: "For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they will not move them with one of their fingers...Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?" (Matthew 23:4,33).
Amen. From: Steven P.
