I'm actually going to push back against prev here and say that it's not alarming to get a high from being hateful. I could expand on why I think occasional haterism can be fun, worthwhile, cathartic, and most importantly useful, but I feel like that would distract from my main point:

The way that you feel when being hateful is entirely irrelevant to the topic at hand.

You could be the cartoon-villain-est mustache-twirling-est unrepentant-est jerk in town, but as long as you don't attack anyone in your community you'll be following the advice on this post. Similarly, you could be the heart-bleeding-est kitten-cuddling-est empathetic-est person and still lash out at your community, and your resulting self-flaggelation won't mean a lick in regards to the point of this post.

Trashing the community bathroom is trashing the community bathroom, whether you feel good about it or not. Don't let people convince you that you're inherently a bully if you find enjoyment in "being negative". Also, don't let people convince you that you can do no harm as long as you feel bad when you do bad things. It is your actions that affect the world, and the point of the post is to try to control your actions.

(Well, okay, the main point of the post is to explain a certain set of actions and why they arise, but another point is that you should watch for this behavior in yourself and temper it when you see it.)

Having experienced a lot of it in my 20s, I think some of the worst, pettiest, most straight up this-is-just-bullying-you're-passing-off-as-praxis incidences of Queer Infighting endemic to young people can be best understood as attempts to exercise power by people with very little power.

Like you're 22, you're queer, you've just become a Marxist, the scope of World Suck is overwhelming and you have $30 in your bank account. What can you do to feel like you have any power? Well, you can try to get your frenemy cancelled for cosplaying a character from a problematic show. You can write a public callout post over someone's obviously friendly use of a slur you don't think they technically have the right to reclaim. Doing this stuff can make you feel like you have power and your actions have an impact. Unfortunately the impact in question is a negative impact on other marginalized people. But that often takes some maturity and self-reflection to notice.

BEAUTYBERRY INSECT REPELLENT

Use a combination of chopped stems and bark and leaves. Put 1 to 2 cups of chopped leaves and stems in a quart jar and fill with boiling water. Let set at least 4 hours or overnight. Strain. Fill an 8 ounce spray bottle half full of the infusion. Add witch hazel almost to the top – leave a 2 ounce space. Add essential oil of your choice. Shake before using.

Planning on giving this a shot this week.
