Well.. that definitely was a season..!

Pretty good uh that's pretty much all I gotta say tho? Not my favorite season of this show 💔 prolly least fav. But yeah, when it showed the credits I immediately went "huh..." and that's pretty much how I can sum up this entire season.

Brooklynn's "betrayal" at the end felt a bit too easy..? Like idk just how I felt and things felt a bit too anticlimactic for me, or atleast for what I'm used to in these shows. Usually the endings are a bit more depressing, while it can get tiring it actually HAS something I can look forward to. But now? What? Am I gonna watch an entire season where camp fam try to find bumpy in a building? Hell nah 💔

Just imo tho ofc, I just wish there was way more to look forward to than just biosyn and bumpy 😔

(Plus this season was a bit way too slow for me)

GYROSPHERE PAIRINGS WEDDING HEADCANONS

OHHH DO I HAVE HEADCANONS FOR YOU

so. first off, THANK YOU SO MUCH ANON, i had SOO much fun with this <333 i saw this request in my inbox and was so thrilled i happy stimmed then spent an hour on the swings at the park blasting my homosexual yearning playlist to give myself some fuel, researched some more, autismed over this for a further few hours, and i finally came up with all of this. so i hope this is what you had in mind!! i did not realise it was over 3000 words until it was, so. sorry if this is too long lol XD

DISCLAIMER: all cultural wedding traditions are from research, not firsthand experience of being part of those cultures; i sincerely apologise for any inaccuracies if there are any :)

finally, turns out that there’s a sort of template to wedding headcanons, so i made a template below the sets of headcanons so you all can make ur own headcanons for your own ocs :D

general:

when Dave and Roxie first planned the gyrosphere thing, Dave bet Roxie $100 that all three pairings would get married someday

Roxie agreed to it because she thought it would be the easiest $100 she would ever make (if only she knew...)

they get married in the order: Yasammy, dinostar, Benji

they bounce around the idea of having a triple wedding but then they decide they are all at separate stages of wanting to get married and don’t want to rush anything/make other people wait (at that point yasammy are very ready to marry, dinostar finally were ready to get back together six months ago, and benji are at the dating stage)

it’s an in joke that none of them can coordinate a straight(hehe)forward proposal because all three couples planned to propose to each other at approximately the same time

a week after Kenji and Ben get married, the nublar six have their own celebration at Sammy’s ranch, just them. officially, it’s a “congratulations; we’re all married!” party but realistically they need an Adult Excuse to have a sleepover

they spend the afternoon on a long walk around the ranch grounds, order takeout and eat it on the field overlooking the sunset

in the evening they have a bonfire with toasting marshmallows and s’mores and all reflect on their lives and stuff and thank each other for being each others’ best friends

they also make friendship vows to each other and promise to always talk through stuff that’s bothering them, always communicate, always support each other, always be honest, etc etc. possibly one of the most emotional things they have ever done as a group. everyone is in tears by the end

then they go inside and in true camp fam fashion, spend the night sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags, all in a big cuddle pile

Yasammy:

Yaz plans to propose on a really fancy dinner date they go on to a restaurant by the beach, but she keeps getting too nervous to do it, and when they drive home and Yaz gets out of the car, she is so nervous she trips and the ring box falls out of her pocket, and she figured, now’s as good a time to propose as any, so she proposes. Sammy says yes ofc and almost starts crying, and then drops to her knees, grabs a flower from the side of the road and offers it to Yaz because she wanted to propose to Yaz and they both laugh and hug and kiss

Yaz only wants one ring, which she wears only on her right hand up until the wedding day where she switches her ring wearing finger to her left (Lebanon, and countries such as as Syria, Turkey and Brazil also do this)

the ring itself is Yaz’s mother’s. mrs Fadoula gave it to Sammy when Sammy told her she wanted to propose and to ask for her blessing. it has a red garnet in it

Sammy’s engagement ring has an emerald in it (green is Sammy’s favourite colour)

they know they want to have an outdoor wedding in early summer, since Yaz loves beaches (i headcanon she grew up in Oregon near a coastline and spent a lot of time at the beach) and Sammy loves the countryside. they scout for weeks for the perfect location before they finally find a good place where the beach and countryside meet on the sand dunes

Yaz and Sammy both agree they don’t want a religious wedding (Sammy was raised Christian and Yaz’s mother is Muslim, but neither of them are particularly religious) so they get married by a judge 

they want their wedding to be very small and intimate. only people they know and love are invited, which basically means the nublar six, their accompanying families, Yaz’s mother, Sammy’s sisters, Dave, Roxie, Mae, Gia, Nonna, Zayna and the Mballos, and some of Yaz’s extended family

Brooklynn and Sammy’s sisters (whom she got back into contact with after chaos theory) are the bridesmaids; Ben, Kenji and Darius were the best men

Brooklynn, Ben, Kenji and Darius all wear suits — whatever colour they want, but they have an orange sprig of flowers pinned to their lapels

they both wear their hair loose with matching flower crowns made from flowers they picked the day before from Sammy’s ranch, and wove them in

it's a Lebanese tradition for the groom's family to arrive the morning of the wedding to pick up the bride — in Yaz and Sammy's case, Yaz only has her mother as close family and Sammy is only in touch with her sisters, so Yaz and her mother arrive on the day to pick up Sammy in the morning, and they have a really intimate drive to the wedding reception. when they get out of the car, Yaz’s mother says, “good luck, my daughters. i love you and i’ll see you in there,” and Sammy almost started crying

Yaz’s dress is white and pretty modest, long sleeved, and has a pretty long train, but her sleeves are thin so she wears a white suit jacket over the top. Sammy also wears a white dress, but with a very full skirt and short sleeves, buff arms are fully visible (when Yaz first sees Sammy in her dress she has to stop and take a moment to remember how to function because girls)

Kenji and Yaz’s mother walk Yaz up the aisle

Zayna is the flower girl, and mrs Fadoula walks the rings up to the front

it’s also a Lebanese tradition to have Daffe dancers who sometimes announce the bride as they come in, and Ben (as the Designated Dj) announces everyone as they come in doing the walk up the aisle

their wedding rings are the pretty standard diamonds, but inside they got the other’s name engraved (e.g. Yaz’s ring says ‘Sammy’ on the inside of the band and vice versa)

the vows are pretty personal, since Yaz and Sammy wrote them themselves. they don’t say “I love you” to each other much, but they often say “I would fight earth to be by your side.” they say that phrase to each other in their vows, but Sammy says it in Arabic and Yaz says it in Spanish (as a cute surprise for each other)

when Sammy explained the Mexican wedding tradition of el lazo (the lasso; usually a decorative silk cord that's draped around the couple) to mrs Fadoula, she did a ton of research, makes her own cord for the girls, and presents it to them on their special day. Sammy is in tears

their wedding bouquets are orange flowers (idk what type cos i know nothing about flowers lmao)

the guests throw sprigs of wild verbena on Yaz and Sammy as they walk back down the aisle (headcanon because @neunhofferart’s favourite Texan wildflowers are wild verbenas)

it's Mexican tradition to have a wedding parade from the ceremony to the reception, but in Yaz and Sammy's case, since they had such a small wedding, they rent a limo for all the wedding guests (it's a tough fit but they manage) and sing karaoke and have non–alcoholic (for Yaz’s family) drinks all the way to the reception

the reception venue is decorated with flowers and fairy lights, and the accents are orange, pink, green (Sammy’s favourite colours) and black (Yaz’s favourite colour). Kenji points out that “the room looks like a giant lesbian flag”

the reception meal has both Mexican and Lebanese food (mostly cooked by mrs Fadoula and Sammy’s sisters; Yaz and Sammy are both average at best at cooking) but Yaz and Sammy also invited their guests to bring their own dish (like a potluck basically)

they have a gorgeously decorated wedding cake, courtesy of Ben’s mother (i headcanon she’d be very good at cake decorating for some reason??) and the ribbons around the base of the cake are orange

Kenji made them a custom playlist and it’s actually extremely good and suits the vibe and them as a couple perfectly

the song they first danced to was to picture you (Sammy’s favourite song) by Chapelle Roan (Sammy’s favourite artist) (Yaz doesn’t have much of a musical preference in terms of the music she likes)

for the mother–daughter dance, ofc Yaz and her mother dance together but mrs Fadoula also dances with Sammy (Sammy definitely cries a little when mrs Fadoula first offered)

there’s a traditional Arab dance called the Dabke, which is done at special occasions. Yaz and Sammy agree they want to dance the Dabke at their wedding but mrs Fadoula teaches the others of the N6 how to dance the Dabke to surprise Yaz and Sammy. when they started dancing, Yaz almost started tearing up cos of how thoughtful it was and they all had a great time dancing together

they do a wedding book, but there’s only a few pages for guest messages since so few people were there; the rest of the space is for pictures from the day. the others of the Nublar Six cannot. stop. drawing in the damn thing. Ben writes, “CONGRATULATIONS MY FAVE LESBIANS I AM YOUR #1 SHIPPER” in very sloppy drunk handwriting, followed by Brooklynn writing, “congratulations from your actual #1 shipper... I’ve known you were gonna end up together since Nublar ;)” followed by at least a page more of the Nublar Six bickering over who shipped them first. Yaz and Sammy think it’s hilarious

Sammy is, of course, overjoyed throughout the day, except for a few minutes where she and Yaz take some time away from the celebrations for Sammy to cry because she’s out of contact with her parents and they weren’t there to see her get married

in the evening, Yaz and Sammy go back to the beach and have dinner just the two of them. they eat chiles rellenos (sammy's favourite), tofu kebabs (yaz's favourite) and orange slices as the evening meal

it’s just the two of them on a blanket with candles and more flowers

(not a picnic! as sammy says, a picnic is just lunch on a blanket) (but yaz is determined to make it the most beautiful lunch/dinner on a blanket they've ever had)

after they finish eating, they slow dance (mostly just gently swaying) on the beach to music playing through a small speaker and hold each other close. it’s easily one of the most intimate things they’ve ever done together

Their honeymoon is in the middle of summer, and it’s on a Greek island resort (they’re mamma mia fans guys... trust me it’s canon...) and have an amazing time

they have a really fancy spa day where they get a couple’s massage

they also find a completely secluded area of the beach and have sex at sunset

Yaz wakes up early every morning to make a cup of coffee (for her) and tea (for Sammy) and they spend an hour every day on the balcony of their hotel room sitting and talking while watching the sunrise

Dinostar

technically, they get married twice

the second time was legally when they did it, but the first time was a pseudo–ceremony the night Darius and Brooklynn proposed to each other

they were going for an evening drive in Darius’s truck with takeout pizza and blankets to snuggle under, and they stopped the truck at a nice spot nearish the highway by the forests with a gorgeous view of the stars. they were sitting in the truck bed, when Darius realised he wanted to propose Right This Second, and did. Brooklynn said yes, “if, Darius Bowman, you will marry me”

on the drive back, after a twenty minute discussion in the car they both agree that they want to be married This Precise Instant and call all their friends to tell them they’re getting married

Brooklynn, texting Yaz and Sammy: I PROPOSED TO DARIUS AND HE SAID YES!!!

Yaz: that’s amazing 🫶

Sammy: ASHJSJF WE’RE SO HAPPY FOR U TWO :D

*twenty minutes later*

Brooklynn: we’re getting married

Yaz: yeah that was implied by the proposal text dumbass

Brooklynn: no i mean we're getting married tonight. in an hour. come to our house

(let’s say the nublar six all live near enough each other at this point to drive there in a couple of hours)

Darius and Brooklynn stop again on their way back to pick up some flowers for their ceremony — yellow ones, of course

after that they spend ten minutes sitting on the truck bed in the car park and just. talk and reflect. thank each other for the amazing relationship they have. exchange a few personal vows for just them. make out.

the ceremony is done in their living room with the Nublar Six, mrs Bowman, Brand, and Brooklynn’s dads. they do their vows in view of the family photo with Fredrick (Darius’s dad) in full view. the only decor are yellow flowers and candles (“your light burns bright, Darius Bowman”)

they completely improve their vows. the words have been inside them for years

Darius starts his vows by saying, “Brooklynn... i love you" and Kenji blurts out (being sarcastic) “really? i had no idea” *Yaz hits him in the face with a pillow*

they and everyone else are crying by the end of their vows

they jump the broom. Darius was very set on doing that since, according to his mother, his family have been doing it with the same broom for generations. mrs Bowman and Fredrick jumped the broom at their wedding. mrs Bowman cried when they did it

they don’t do engagement rings since, from that night onward, they consider themselves married already

but they want to get legally married so they have legal couple rights and stuff (also any excuse to get the gang together and celebrate)

they have a winter wedding because they look so much like a winter couple i can’t explain why they just do

Darius’s family is Christian but Darius himself isn’t, and Brooklynn isn’t religious, so they get married in a courthouse

like Yaz and Sammy, it’s a small wedding with the rest of the Nublar Six, their accompanying families, mrs Bowman and Brand, Brooklynn’s dads, Dave, Roxie, Mae, Gia, Nonna, Zayna and the Mballos, and some of Darius’s extended family

Yaz and Sammy were the bridesmaids, and Ben, Kenji and Brand were the best men (they all wear yellow dresses/suits)

Darius opts for the standard black tux and Brooklynn wears a pretty simple white dress that she decorates with yellow flowers. Darius has a yellow tie.

mrs Bowman and Brand walk Darius up the aisle. mrs Bowman carries a picture of Fredrick while she walks, and puts his picture next to her seat in the front row so Fredrick can be with his son in spirit

they surprise the other with wedding rings: Darius gets Brooklynn a solid gold ring (stones are only stones, anyway. Brooklynn deserves something that can only be made in a supernova.) and where there would be a stone, the gold is melded into a star. Brooklynn wears hers on her right hand instead of her left. Brooklyn gets Darius a plain band with a chip of his raptor tooth embedded inside (with his permission)

i imagine Yaz and Sammy would have a toddler at this point maybe? so they’d ask her (with the help of one of her mothers) or one of Darius’s younger cousins to be the flower girl, and Kenji to be the ring bearer

they do the pretty standard vows since they did the personal ones the night of their engagement

their wedding bouquet is mostly white flowers but there’s stars meticulously glued onto the petals (and the ribbon is yellow ofc)

their reception/party is decorated with crystal–like winter decorations, the theme is winter wonderland

their reception meal is like. standard fancy food.

mrs Pincus also made their wedding cake. we absolutely stan this lady

Kenji made them a playlist like he did for Yaz and Sammy, and once again it’s brilliant. however it is a running gag that Kenji, Brand and Darius jumpscare each other with the song blue da ba dee da ba dai so right in the middle of the dancing, suddenly, “now listen up here’s a story about a little guy that lives in a blue world—” “—Kenji, SERIOUSLY? at my WEDDING?” meanwhile Kenji and Brand are pissing themselves laughing

Darius and Brooklynn’s first dance is to the song so close from the movie enchanted (underrated song of the decade. tear jerking and heartbreaking and magical and whimsical and amazing)

they also dance to several instrumental arrangements of disney songs and honestly they look like a fairytale couple

they hire a photographer and the photos are stunning

mrs Bowman dances with Brooklynn and Darius in the mother/daughter and mother/son dances, and both Brooklynn and Darius dance with both Brooklynn’s dads

they do a wedding book, and they include a page where they ask everyone to write one piece of marriage/relationship advice. they get increasingly more silly the more drunk people get. most of it is Kenji and Ben’s handwriting. Yaz gives advice from therapy. Sammy draws loads of hearts around their names on the front page

in the evening, they drive back to the same place they got engaged and have one final dance in the moonlight before going back home to sleep

they (me) had no idea where they should go for their honeymoon, so they (i) did some research and decided they’d go to one of the tropical Caribbean islands for a week

on their honeymoon they go skinny dipping at least once

right after that they also spend a few days going camping in the forest just them two

Benji

Kenji spends ages planning a really elaborate and thoughtful proposal (with the help of Yaz and Sammy ofc) only for Ben to spontaneously propose

Kenji is so shocked and thrown and excited that he blurts out “no!” then quickly corrects by saying “no, i mean that i was supposed to propose to you,” and then he brings out the ring with a turquoise gemstone (like Bumpy)

Kenji’s engagement ring is sapphire like Smoothie

when they told everyone else, the most excited was, to everyone’s surprise, Dave. when they asked why, he explained his and Roxie’s bet and how Roxie was so wrong, and the Nublar Six all realise their relationships started with the gyrospheres

they decide to get married in a forest. Ben’s family is Jewish but he’s never been religious, so they don’t get married religiously, and they both love the forest atmosphere, since the trees remind them a little bit of Nublar but not enough to be traumatic or triggering

their wedding is on a mild spring day

a year or so after chaos theory, Kenji realises he has no pictures of his birth mother, so he described how she looked to Yaz who drew her. she redraws it for him and paints it properly, and gives it to him the morning of the wedding in a picture frame

Kenji isn't in touch with his Japanese heritage, so it felt a bit disingenuous to participate in Japanese wedding traditions. HOWEVER, he remembers seeing a photo of his mother and father at their wedding, and she's wearing purple (the only idea we have of what she looks like is five year old Kenji's drawing of her wearing something purple so i’m going with that’s her favourite colour) and Kenji wears a purple tie with his tux to honour his mother

Ben wears the standard black tux

Kenji and Ben both walk up the aisle arm in arm. Ben links his other arm with mrs Pincus and Kenji links his other arm with mrs Bowman

mrs Pincus gave Ben her old wedding ring to give to Kenji, and Kenji found his mother’s wedding ring in a box of old stuff from his father’s house and he held onto it for years

Bumpy is the ring bearer, Smoothie is the flower girl (Ben and Kenji taught him how to throw petals with his mouth. proud papas moment fr)

their vows are pretty standard, but Kenji writes a short poem (he’s a poetry guy trust me) and Ben is almost brought to tears

their wedding bouquets are also purple (for Kenji’s mother, and also it’s Kenji’s favourite colour) and blue (Ben’s favourite colour)

they spend some time in the forest just having drinks and stuff, but then they go to their official party venue

it’s decorated a bit like a jungle but also with blossom trees (traditionally Japanese)

they have buffet food at their reception meal (also by caterers because neither of them have a culinary bone in their body)

mrs Pincus still does the wedding cake (finally her sons are getting married) and she decorates it beautifully

however she does insist she frosts it at the venue. she was up at 5am making sure the cake was decorated and beautiful for her boys <3

Kenji spent weeks curating the Perfect Playlist for their wedding specifically (it’s only slightly different to their already existing Couple’s Playlist)

the first song they dance to as a couple is hallelujah by Leonard Cohen but Kenji rewrote the verses to fit their relationship (this is totally a teaser for an upcoming project btw)

Kenji gets a mother/son dance with mrs Bowman and both boys get a mother/son dance with mrs Pincus, and Kenji dances with Brook’s dads (they are technically his uncles in law i think??? idk. they’re his dads guys)

when mrs Bowman dances with Kenji, she whispers in his ear, “i love you, my darling son. i’m so proud of you.” and Kenji just melts

Jewish weddings have a celebratory dance called the hora where the couple are lifted in the air on chairs while they hold a napkin or handkerchief, and Ben really wanted to do it, so mrs Pincus helps the Nublar Six plan a Hora dance, and Darius, Brooklynn, Sammy and Yaz lift Ben and Kenji up in their chairs and it's SO cute. Kenji and Ben are each clinging onto one end of a handkerchief and cannot stop giggling. they’re so in love

at the wedding toasts, they do an open mic thing for an hour where everyone is invited to give a little toast. embarrassing stories are shared. jokes are made. Dave specifically congratulates the Nublar Six on all their marriages, and then reminds Roxie she owes him $100

all throughout the celebrations, Kenji and Ben are sneaking off into the gardens to kiss and cuddle and celebrate because holy shit we’re married now. they can hardly believe it /pos

the party is done by around 8pm and Ben and Kenji go back home and slow dance around their living room while listening to Queen and indie rock with fairy lights strung around the room. it’s just the two of them and they end up cuddling on the sofa, where they fall asleep

their honeymoon is in New Zealand, because Ben has distant family there and he went a couple of times as a child, and he loved it (author’s note: i went to New Zealand once as a child and it was truly magical, i loved it sm) and the scenery is so gorgeous

they go for three weeks (not including travelling time because to fly there is an additional day each end) in the first three weeks of december (december in New Zealand feels like summer in northern climates)

they spend two weeks and six days having amazing fun, relaxing beach days, relaxing in hot tubs, climbing a mountain, and having incredible adventures... and one of those days in the hospital because Kenji got stung by a jellyfish while swimming in the sea

The Summary Report

I have completed 27 interviews from every JWCT blog I could find with their asks open. This is our sample. In these interviews I asked the question: “WHAT one thing are YOU most excited to see in s3 of chaos theory?”

NOTE: this survey was conducted ON TUMBLR which contributes a drastic bias to all results, especially in terms of ships. I am aware. I also don’t give a shit as ask games are a tumblr exclusive site mechanic.

The name of the game here is Jo Unboxes the Hype and that is exactly what I aim to do — gather input on what exactly the wider fandom is most looking forward to with season 3 (maybe even test how it measured up to the “hype” after) and measure the results.

There is one hour left until the season releases, so without further adiue, here are those results:

First up, Character Interest

This bar graph covers every N6 member plus our three spotlight additions this season. One point was tallied for each time a character was mentioned by an interviewee as someone they were specifically interested in seeing.

This distinction from ‘every time a characters name is mentioned’ is important because many are looking forward to seeing the aftermath of a specific S2 scene that won’t even involve the character responsible for it, as such input that exclusively mentioned the character’s name for the sake of referencing the scene were not counted

Our MOST HYPED character is The Handler with 11 Individual mentions.

In descending order after that it is Brooklynn (10), Soyona (8), Yaz (7), Sammy (7), Gia (7), Ben (6), Kenji (5), and Darius (4).

Here we have two separate pie charts - one comparing expressed interest in specific ships and the second using the same data to compare the slash types of said ships.

To the suprise of absolutely no one our MOST HYPED ship this season is Yasammy with 7 individual mentions.

However, let’s break it down further than that. Coming in as the second biggest ship is Lab Partners/Brokerlynn with (5) mentions, followed by BenGia (4) in third. Tied were Benji and Whistlelight/Raptormoms with (3) each. Shockingly, even Dinomite (2) was discussed more than Dinostar (1) despite the latter ship’s semi-canon status.

Of course, characters and ships aren’t the end all be all of a show - the story itself is the whole point! With the cliff hangers s2 left us on, combined with what was seen in the trailer, there has been a LOT of desires as to what everyone wants to see covered. Now, typically this would be a very personal/individual question - every fan wants to see something different, right? And for the most part this rang true, however three specific focus points were mentioned across interviews.

Honestly this whole thing has been very fun and imo really has made the wait more enjoyable. As I type this last paragraph there are 3 minutes to the season’s release. When I started sending out asks (initially just a few to my friends, before I had realized The Potential of the reporter schtick) we still had over 2 days to go. I think the largest benefit of a small fandom is the opportunity provided to have these discussions. The community here (specifically here, on tumblr) is an amazing one.

So, given that my brain is giving a short hiatus from Yasammy week (I will get it done, my brain is just being stubborn), I wanted to pop in and talk about one of my favorite Camp Cretaceous lines that I don’t feel like gets talked about enough in the community.

Spoilers for season 5 if you haven’t already seen it, but I’m assuming most of you have.

I can’t remember the exact episode from season 5, but it revolved around Yaz and Sammy restricting their affection towards one another in the wake of Kenji’s betrayal because they didn’t want to offend their friends.

Once the other campers found out about it, Brooklynn says:

“What you have is awesome. Let it BE awesome.”

That quote always stuck with me. While yes, it reflects that the blossoming relationship between Yaz and Sammy is beautiful, I always took it as more of a subtle nod towards the LGBT+ community as a whole.

Because yes, what you have is awesome. You are loved. You are welcomed. Even in the face of adversity, what you have is beautiful. Nothing or no one should be able to take that happiness from you.

Especially Ben’s reaction towards Yaz admitting her feelings for Sammy. Like, the campers were all so supportive of them and I love that. Even when Kenji came back to his friends, he was overjoyed for them. True friendship and love indeed.

Ok! I watched Chaos Theory! I have a lot of thoughts! There were things I liked a lot and things I wasn’t a fan of. I generally liked it but came away slightly underwhelmed. If you haven’t watched it yet please go do so!!! Support the show and the wonderful crew that put it together!!!

WHAT I LIKED:

-MATEO!!! I literally loved him so much. A fantastic, simple character that doesn’t overstay his welcome or detract from our main characters. Great motivations and realistic backstory. Yeah. I really liked him. Yeah.

-Yasammy! Obviously they were amazing. They got to be cute and bubbly and gay but also their argument was so real and believable. Neither one of them is completely in the wrong. They are just two flawed people who’ve been through more than they can handle on their own. They need each other but not always in the way they might think. They were such a highlight this season. Can’t wait for more of them.

-This whole show just feels like a dramatic step up in visual storytelling from CC. The sets are beautiful and intricate, the lighting and textures are fantastic, and the directing is just really great. There are some really creative shots and transitions, and overall it just feels like more confident directing and storyboarding all around. (I specifically remember episode 7 being really great visually. Super fun stuff.)

-All the dinosaur action was great. Like next level shit. The way they keep finding creative ways to use these animals for action and suspense is very impressive. The raptors are genuinely scary. The Allosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus were personal favs.

-Unlike Dominion, they actually showed what living in a world with dinosaurs is like- how people are adjusting to this new way of life, adapting to the presence of these animals, and keeping themselves safe. Totally what I wanted to see from Dominion, and Chaos Theory did it better within a single episode.

-There was some very well crafted suspense throughout this season. The mystery does a great job of constantly keeping you pulled in. Every time a question is answered, five more are asked.

-The darker tone is definitely welcome. The characters are older and they’ve experienced a terrible loss. The weight of the new world weighs on them and the audience in a very tangible way.

-This one isn’t really constructive but like. I just love Darius so much. He’s so perfect.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:

-Unfortunately I thought the character writing was significantly weaker than any season of CC. It was genuinely impressive how they were able to make me not care much about these versions of Ben and Kenji, my absolute favorite characters in CC. Before the characters felt like real, living people. Now, they just feel like fictional characters to me. Really good characters, yes, but still just characters. Maybe I’ll go into further detail about this in a future post. But yeah, overall it felt like the characters took a backseat this time around.

-I’m so sorry but I absolutely could not stand the new VA for Kenji. I’m sure he’s trying his best but he sounded uninterested and half-assed most of the time. Brooklynn’s new actor was… fine? Didn’t care for her either but she didn’t bug me the way Kenji did. Let’s start a GoFundMe to pay for Ryan to come back.

-Ok. Yeah. Not a fan of Darius being in love with B. Like, ok. It makes sense and it fits the plot well. But it just seems unnecessary. Darius can be devastated by her loss without it. Ehhh maybe they’ll handle it well in future seasons but. No. Not for me.

-Also didn’t like Daniel Kon’s death. I liked that they brought him back, but killing him felt undeserved. Like, he was the main antagonist for the first show, but you just kill him off in a random episode six years later? I think he deserved a little more reverence rather than reintroducing him for one episode and then quickly killing him for shock value once he’s served his purpose.

-WHY DID THEY GIVE BEN A GIRLFRIEND THAT BOY IS GAY AS HELL NOOOOO

SPOILERS FOR CAMP CRETACEOUS SEASON 5!!

OMGOMGOMG I JUST FINISHED IT AND. HOLY CRAP.

Obviously I was going into this season hoping it would at least be better than S4 and PRAYING that it would be better than Dominion and boy was I not disappointed.

While I don’t hate S4, this season was miles better and I was so happy with how it ended. It left me with such a satisfied feeling, one which Dominion did not leave me with. Like- ok I just need to break it down..

- first of all, how the campers were portrayed this season was so great and really stayed true to their dynamic since the beginning

- going back to Nublar? Completely unexpected but very welcomed. Also, the fact that there were earthquakes? Alluding to the volcano becoming active potentially?

- DAVE, ROXIE AND BRAND. YES I LOVE THE TRIO. And them linking up with Mae was great too!

- loved to hate Daniel Kon. Someone else mentioned this already, but he’s literally the best villain of the entire franchise and it really shows.

- glad Kenji realized naturally that he made mistakes and that it wasn’t forced in any way.

- YASAMMY. YES. FINALLY. GLAD THESE TWO GOT THEIR HAPPY ENDING TOGETHER. Also loved the exploration of Yas and Ben’s relationship.

- bringing back Darius and Brooklynn’s friendship this season. I’m glad they ended as great friends though I can see the DinoStar potential.

- KENJI BEING BY HIMSELF AT THE END BUT THEN BEING WELCOMED BY DARIUS’ MOM. THEY BECOME BROTHERS?? UM YES.

- loved all the major and minor tie-ins to Dominion, as much as I was disappointed in that movie. I said it in my post about Dominion, but it made me super excited for S5, and I’m glad I wasn’t disappointed.

- the watering hole?? Kind of a re-hash but I loved it nonetheless.

- though the designs at the end were questionable, I loved the “epilogue” and it shows how they’ve grown.

- DARIUS’ SPEECH AT THE END. I FEEL LIKE IT COULD BE INSTRUMENTAL IN HOW DINOSAURS AND HUMANS LEARN TO CO-EXIST BUT I KNOW IT WILL NEVER BE CONFIRMED.

- Ben and Bumpy reunion. *cry* but also *yay!* (also not gonna lie, gave me HTTYD2 flashbacks that were not much appreciated but oh well)

There’s probably so much more I’m missing but I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything (plus I’m also reeling from news and clips for The Dragon Prince S4 so that doesn’t help, lol).

Anyway, this season has just made me want more of this show and it’s characters (like what did they get up to between FK and Dominion/during the events of Dominion?). I’m actually making notes and trying to come up with something because I’m seriously considering doing a rewrite of Dominion and adding the Nublar Six.

But alas, the show is over. And to that I say, that’s what fanfiction is for!

It has been an eventful week, so this post took longer than I wanted to, but finally, a long post on s4:

Ok, let's start with the good stuff, because I think that's what most of us want to focus on right now:

-> First of all, call me a kinnie, but Ben was my favorite character this season. After two seasons of trying to find a middle ground between the Ben he was when he got to camp and the Ben he found in the island, it looks like he's finally sorting everything out, bringing back his sensitive, careful side, but still being open with the campers and feeling more sure of himself, which was a great change from s3 Ben, when he was still figuring this out. They did a great job with Episode 2 (the "just Ben" dialogue tugged some heartstrings ngl), and his interactions with the rest of the campers sure were more lighthearted and natural than in previous seasons, and it shows that he's finally finding his place within the group.

-> Mae!!!! 💖 She was a rush of fresh air while watching. Finally! An adult with morals who's willing to look out for the kids and actually doing something to take them home. I especially enjoyed her disposition to listen to the campers, which had been missing in the show (yes, even with Dave and Roxie I'm sorry), and was probably what made her escalate so far up my list of favorites. I wish we'd gotten a little more on her, since she was missing around halfway through the season, but we'll see what's in store for her in s5!

-> Now, the scene that made the entire living room shake: When Darius calls Brandon.

First of all, welcome back mister, you were greatly missed. Second, every time I think about how Darius's insticts jumped to immediately calling his brother I cry tears of happiness, I really thought he was gonna call the police but no he called Brandon hold up I'm gonna cry-

Anyways, I live in fear over what's gonna happen, since Brandon is probably the only person on mainland who knows or suspects the campers are still alive, and what would be better than making him reach out for the last 2 people who saw them? I really hope Brandon, Dave and Roxie make it to the campers, let them have a last chance at saving them.

(Also, random thought: Did anyone else got the tiniest bit scared when both Mae and Kash didn't believe the campers surviving on Nublar? Because someone a while ago said something about the public not believing the campers come from Nublar and saying it was all for attention and...um...*sweats nervously*)

-> Yaz's PTSD finally catching up with her. Some say it came out of the blue, others say it was about time. In my opinion it makes perfect sense, since not only has it been 6 months of running for their lives, but Yaz was the one who stared at the Scorpius Rex in the face, all the feelings and trauma from the Long Run had to have an impact on her. She had been bottling everything up, and the Long Run was the last straw that made everything come spilling out. I wished other characters had also gotten to talk about their trauma, but more on that later.

-> And talking about the queens of Rome, Yasammy stands unbeatable as it always has. Although they didn't become canon, we still got incredibly sweet moments between them: the drawing scene from Episode 1 (which has a lot of similarities with the balcony scene from the Cattle Drive 😏); Sammy helping Yaz with her nightmares (the bed scene was so domestic and cute, definitely made the top 3 of my favorite scenes of this season); how they were taking care of Angel, and the line that takes the cake: "Pretty sure you're the reason I have any feelings at all, Sammy" Like ARE WE GONNA TALK ABOUT THAT??? The implications, the symbolism,,, that line is everything

-> THE CLIFFHANGER, aka one of the 3 or 4 reasons I'm still hyped for s5. I was already speculating it around Episode 8 when I started noticing Kash was mentioning his boss too much for it to be normal, and because I spent the entirety of October theorizing about his dad showing up I had some hope. When I tell you that the moment Kenji started walking closer I had a pillow on my mouth to not scream it, and when the reveal happened my sister and I were yelling so much I think the ones on the last floor heard us 😳

It's still hard to believe because,,, how were we right about that?! We barely had proof other than the painting and the 2 or 3 lines we had about Kenji's dad, and yet we were right??? I can't wait to see where they take this in s5, because the angst potential is unmeasurably high, and we might finally get the insight on Kenji's family that we've been so desperately waiting for since the beginning of the show

-> The kayak friendships! Darius and Sammy got more scenes together (which btw, there's not near enough 😐), and the Ben and Yaz friendship has finally gotten more development! The "I just don't like like you" scene has quickly become one of my favorites from the show lol

-> Baby dinos! They were so freakingshly cute, and how they did that sideplot of Ben not wanting to befriend them so it wouldn't hurt like it did with Bumpy but then giving in and naming the Brachiosaurus Firecracker had me smiling like an idiot 💖

-> And by the way, HOW DARE YOU SHOW US THAT SCENE OF BUMPY NO ONE WAS READY FOR THAT! My sister broke down crying, and the way they set it up after "I'm sure she's already forgotten about old Ben" LIKE HOW DARE YOU??? 😭😭😭

-> It was such a cool detail to bring back the DNA Sammy collected from Nublar, the drone had been a question on my mind for almost an entire year and now it's finally resolved.

Now, the bad stuff:

<- That. I could go on for an entire 10-page essay about how this makes me feel, but I'll try to be as short and concise as possible: some paragraphs.

First of all, the way they introduced it into the show. Sure, Kenji had flirted with Brooklynn in the first episode of s1, but afterwards there was absolutely nothing leading to it. All their interactions after that were more on a friendly light, even familial to some extent. It is mentioned that the s3 finale was "the turning point" of their feelings, but to be honest, there were no implications to it. Kenji had become more selfless during the past six months, coming to view the campers as family, him being worried over Brooklynn was not "romantic" in any way. We'll go back to the s3 finale later.

The kayak scene in s1 and the talk in 02x04 are scenes I want to bring into attention, since in these it's shown clearly that Kenji is way more mature than Brooklynn, which is of concern when it comes to their romantic relationship. While I do consider their age gap to be concerning, it's more about the gap in maturity: 13 is still on the very early years of adolescence, while 15 is halfway through. It's even implied on their character designs. Brooklynn's blog is clearly directed at children, her design and clothes are still somewhat childlike, and then you have Kenji here with A FREAKING BEARD. It's weird as hell.

Also, "there's a bit of romance in the air"? A bit? A bit?! They were thrown into our faces every five minutes! Not even 10 minutes into episode 1 Kenji was already looking at Brooklynn like that! So many aspects of the season were overshadowed in favour of That: how the island works, what's the plan behind it, how did the campers get there, who's aware of its existence, how are the campers going to leave this island, I can name more. Some of these were either never talked about, or mentioned in one quick line you can easily forget. And you could say "oh but this is like season 1, it's a new island, we'll have time to explore it later", but the truth is: s5 is pointing out to be the final season, with Kenji's dad showing up and Brandon going for Darius. Next season is coming loaded with Mantah Corp, Kenji's relationship with his dad, and the campers trying to get home in one piece. There's not going to be enough time to explore the island correctly like s2 did, for example. All those questions had to be answered this season, and they weren't, thanks to their supposed development.

And the butchering of the characters...oh god. Outside of Ben, every character in the camp fam was affected by the romance subplot, if differently for each one. Kenji and Brooklynn were basically not allowed to have any meaningful interactions with the camp fam besides each other, and when they did speak to other characters 90% of the time it was related to the romance. Kenji was supposed to have more development in s4, yet all he did was become a simp for a 13 year-old girl and any arc he could've gotten this season was thrown away. I think Brooklynn was treated better when it comes to this, but she was still reduced to her romantic subplot, and her feelings didn't look genuine. Yaz and Sammy have had 3 seasons of build-up, and after everything that happened in The Long Run there should've been a follow up to their feelings and where their relationship stands at that moment. In my opinion, if they wanted to go for a romance subplot, they should've gone for them, it would've been paced out better and it would have made sense.

But the one character outside the pair that was most affected by all of this was...

<- Darius...Darius, my boy, how do you keep going? It's been 4 seasons, and he has not cried ONCE. Every other camper has gotten their moment to cry, to be vulnerable around others, except Darius, the leader, the godforsaken main character. The show constantly forgets he's 12, he barely counts as a teenager, and he's enthrusted with the lives of 5 other kids, who are as much as 3 years older than him, as well as his own. The s3 finale was sort of promising an answer to this, an insight on the pressure Darius is constantly feeling, BUT *drumrolls please*, turns out Darius instantly forgets about what Kenji said to him in 03x10 halfway through episode 1, Kenji being angry at him was just because he had a crush on Brooklynn, and Darius never gets the focus he deserves because why would we do that when there's this "romance"!!!

Also think it's important to mention how he was held back by Kash for 3 whole episodes. I said I wanted the rest of the campers to deal with things by themselves, but between them doing perfectly fine without him and him being incredibly chill with his situation compared to, for example, when Mitch and Tiff were chasing him and Sammy in 02x07, just leaves me severely disappointed. He literally has numbed down all the trauma and grief he has in order to help the others, and that's just our interpretation, because at this point who knows what the writers will even do with him. The trailer for s4 had most of us waiting for a season that would focus on him, yet he was distant from many of the campers through the season. Darius deserves a season that truly focuses on him and lets him talk freely about his feelings and trauma the way other characters have done through the show.

<- The beacon. Before the season dropped my speculations were that Mantah Corp had intercepted the signal and they just never cared about it. But not only was it never mentioned, we also found out that Kenji's dad is the president of Mantah Corp. If they had received the signal from Nublar, he would've been informed, and would have gone after it (unless he's an actual piece of garbage of a human being, which honestly would not surprise me, but in the context of the show I don't think they're going that far.). My theory right now is that someone related to the park got the signal, but assumed it was just a person and decided to not act, Dave and Roxie heard about this and are trying to figure out what to do, hoping it's the campers. It's been 2 seasons and we still don't know what happened to it, we need answers.

So my final conclusion is that the season wasn't all bad, the plot had a lot of potential and some of it was handled properly and still managed to keep me on the edge of my seat, but there were some major fuck-ups and decisions that messed up some of its aspects. It's definitely my least favorite season, but looking back at it it's not as terrible as I first thought it was, and I am still tuning in for s5.

getting together:

Sammy fell first (some time around season 4 of camp cretaceous) Yaz fell harder

the first year or two is such a joyous and yuriful experience. this is both their first real relationships and they are so excited. they go out holding hands all the time. they look up cute nicknames to use

Yaz talks to her mum about everything (they’re basically besties) and especially during the first year she’s always excitedly telling her mum about Sammy and how amazing she is. Yaz’s mum is so proud of her daughter and her daughter’s gf

Sammy is more private about her relationship but her family have always mostly been welcoming of Yaz (up until the dinosaurs got to the mainland and then all sorts of stuff happens)

they never really Broke Up, they just agreed they needed time to sort out their issues and resolve their hurt separately, and with everything going on, they don’t have time for a relationship

once they get back to the states post chaos theory, a few days after getting settled, they sit and have a long conversation about what happened. it was just them on the back porch under the moonlight, talking about their feelings and resolving to work on themselves and each other. Sammy promises not to treat Yaz like she’s fragile, and Yaz promises to communicate better and not distance herself so much. in a way, it’s almost like wedding vows. almost.

they agree to go to couples’ therapy, and it actually really helps them get better at communicating and talking stuff through and understanding how the other feels

they get engaged after living together on the ranch and dating for two years. they wanted to wait before marriage so they could be 100% sure they want to get married

when they get engaged, the first people they tell are Yaz’s mum, and the camp fam. they tell them over video call. the screaming is so loud the computer cannot cope and just has ten seconds of this horrible screechy static sound

the camp fam are all so happy for them, of course, but Brooklynn is especially thankful they’re so happy together because she would not have been able to forgive herself if she was part of the reason Sammy and Yaz didn’t get back together

general/miscellaneous headcanons:

being together is amazing, and soothing, and reassuring, and exciting. they get to live with their lover and best friend and partner in everything, and they’re still so thrilled by that after all these years. they have someone to lean on when they need it

their natural landscape is the countryside (Benji is the mountains and Dinostar is the city/beach)

Yaz is also obsessed with Sammy’s hair. Sammy grows her hair out after chaos theory and Yaz braids it everyday to keep it from getting tangled from all the farm work. she loves to comb her fingers through it when they’re cuddling, and grips it when they make out or have sex

they’re lovers but they’re also partners in almost everything they do. they work so well as a team. if one of them is struggling with something, they text the other and they’ll be there as soon as humanly possible. together they can do anything

they split ranch responsibilities between them. Samm was nervous at first because she thought Yaz wouldn’t be as enthusiastic about the ranch life as Sammy, but Yaz actually loves it. she enjoys the physical work, caring for animals, parallel play, and of course, spending time with Sammy

Sammy deals with the larger animals like the cows, sheep, goats, and horses, and Yaz is mostly in charge of the chickens, ducks, geese, and most of the stuff they grow

they love running around with the fireflies together. the fireflies come out and they’re dashing through the grass, holding hands and laughing and shouting with happiness. then they lie on the grass, and watch the fireflies and the stars and usually end up making out

Sammy sings all the time. when she’s working on the ranch chores, when she’s cooking, when she’s working. Yaz gets so used to it, that when she isn’t singing for whatever reason, Yaz really misses the sound and the ranch sounds too quiet without her

they are extremely silly with each other sometimes. we forget they dressed up in avocado costumes for halloween once i think this is all but canon

Sammy has a punching bag tied to a tree in the ranch that she sometimes goes to absolute town on. when she’s not in a seriously bad mood she lets Yaz watch her

Sammy is an absolute expert at calming down Yaz’s nightmares. it’s second nature to her. she knows exactly what she needs to do. she hums lullabies into Yaz’s hair and strokes her cheek and kisses her forehead. she knows it all

Yaz also gets better at calming down Sammy after a nightmare since there’s a period of time where Sammy’s nightmares are worse than Yaz’s, and Yaz is up a lot calming down Sammy (which she’s completely okay with). Sammy needs to be cared for but especially after a nightmare. Yaz will hold her, soothe her, even sing to her. if it’s really bad they’ll get out of bed and sit in the barn with Bessie, and Yaz will wrap Sammy in a blanket

Brooklynn and Ben help Sammy get ready

Darius and Kenji help Yaz get ready (they’re siblings guys... they’re siblings...)

Yaz and Sammy are both not in touch with their fathers, and they don’t have brothers either, and Yaz and Kenji are siblings but so are Yaz and Ben, but so are Sammy and Kenji, so Kenji and Ben (both best men) argued over who would get to walk them down the aisle, and they decide to all walk arm in arm

when they got to the front, they all hug with Brooklynn (the bridesmaid) and Darius (the other best man)

i feel the need to emphasise their honeymoon on a Greek island because they love mamma mia, it’s canon guys trust me

they’d probably bounce around a few Greek islands, one of them being Lesbos. they bring back some really cool poetry books of Sappho’s works, and some artwork too. they felt sooo safe there; they love it

daily life headcanons:

after chaos theory, the camp fam live together for about a year on Sammy’s ranch and get into all sorts of goofy sitcom plots (while also having therapy) while simultaneously enjoying the most lovely cottagecore vibes

Ben and Kenji move to New Mexico (yeah i know i had them in California in my previous post, i changed my mind) and Darius and Brooklynn move to Dallas, and Yaz and Sammy, as the group parents, find themselves really missing them, so they carry on their tradition of a weekly video call to catch up

Sammy doesn’t really like to raise animals to sell for meat, so she keeps animals for stuff like milk and eggs (her and Yaz sell them at the farmer’s market). mostly cows, a few sheep, a mama goat and her baby, geese, ducks, and lots of chickens.

her and Yaz also own a riding school with horses. they love riding horses together, it’s so much fun

their school is specifically disability accessible, so most of their students are neurodivergent and/or disabled. they also have quite a few people from toxic households who come, and they make sure to allow them to spend time at the school as much as possible, asking them to stay behind to help muck out the horses and put away the equipment. eventually they become part time hires. the school is such a safe space. this is especially important to Sammy because she knows what it’s like to be estranged from your family and need somewhere stable to rely on (for her, it was Yaz and Nadia)

they’re aunt and auntie to their students

Sammy has such a soft spot for stray animals. they have several dogs and cats that Sammy just found abandoned somewhere. eventually Yaz has to put her foot down because they do Not have room to keep all these animals and there is an animal shelter an hour away that can take them and will look after them. they do however give one of the dogs to Ben and Kenji since they really want one

Yaz especially gets really into gardening, and they start selling other produce like berries, peppers, tomatoes, etc etc

Sammy’s ranch has one floor, which is very convenient for Yaz because her ankle does not do well on stairs

when Yaz properly moved in, Sammy made sure the house was super accessible with grab rails and a shower chair without Yaz even asking. Yaz is so touched by the gesture she almost starts crying

Sammy also builds a bunch of benches around the ranch because Yaz needs to sit down more (and she is so thankful Sammy did that, but also, Sammy built them herself and Yaz got to enjoy watching Sammy in a crop top chopping and sawing wood, nailing it together, etc)

Yaz is an early bird, so she always takes a walk around the ranch by herself. it helps her clear her head and think about what she needs to do in the day

then they eat breakfast together outdoors on the back porch sofa every day (unless the weather does not permit it)

they usually get most of the ranch chores done before lunch (together they work fast) and work at the riding school in the afternoon (it’s only open in the afternoon)

lunchtime is usually something quick, or leftovers from a tupperware, since Sammy is very big on not wasting food

Yaz got into the habit of meal prepping when she was at university so she’ll usually make lots of portions of stuff to freeze and defrosts them for lunches

Yaz gets pretty exhausted in heavy heat, so Sammy and Yaz have an hour nap/lie down together every afternoon in the hottest part of the day in summer with the air con on full blast

Yaz also mostly works indoors and deals with the paperwork for the riding school; Sammy does most of the teaching in the really hot months

once they’ve finished their lessons it’s around 6pm and they go for a ride just the two of them around the fields

then they go home and cook dinner together

Yaz works out in the evening; she can’t run anymore because of her ankle but she has lots of exercises she can do, and she has extremely strong arms and abs. she also gets into weightlifting and Sammy hangs around to enjoy the view keep her company

mentioned in another post, but Yaz usually falls asleep after Sammy, so the last thing Yaz gets to do every day is fall asleep in her girlfriend’s arms and it makes her so so happy

Yaz and Sammy both love the rain and there isn’t much rain in Texas, so when there is rain, they are out there running around and laughing and dancing (singing in the rain plays). then they go back inside and dry off and have a cup of hot chocolate

they usually go to visit Yaz’s mother in Oregon in the winter for a week or two, hoping to see the snow. Sammy loves snow. the wonder on her face at the snow falling will never fail to make Yaz melt

Yaz really enjoys baking bread. kneading it is soothing and repetitive, and it helps to ground her if her anxiety is particularly bad that day (but she enjoys it even if there isn’t). there is always a fresh loaf in their house.

they live near a food festival that’s active in the spring/summertime, and it has live music and a performance stage, and Sammy plays up there every so often. seeing her girl so happy up there, performing her heart out in sparkly clothes (and her iconic sparkly cowboy boots) is enthralling

Yaz really wants to carry but she has endometriosis so she can’t (which breaks her heart but she’s glad Sammy can carry)

Sammy assures Yaz that it’s okay, and that she’s really excited to be pregnant

Yaz is on top of the pregnancy stuff. she and Sammy organised the ivf, but once Sammy is actually pregnant, Yaz is taking very good care of her girl. she buys all the prenatal vitamins, books parenting classes, and does very thorough research, especially on their first baby, everything they need to know about caring for a baby

Sammy feels really bad sending Yaz out to get her pregnancy cravings but Yaz is down to do it. Sammy wants the nice jam that is only sold from one vendor only on a sunday morning? she’s GETTING the nice jam

Sammy ends up going into labour when her and Yaz are out on a walk in the ranch. Yaz is scared, but she holds herself together until she can get Sammy indoors

however, a few hours after Sammy goes into labour, there’s a bad wind storm and it’s too dangerous for them to drive to the hospital, so they’re stuck inside their ranch

really panicked, Yaz video calls the camp fam, her mum, and mrs Bowman (who is a nurse but is also trained in being a midwife) and they all keep them calm and give advice and direct her on how to give birth

their daughter is born safely and perfectly healthy, thank goodness

they decide they want another baby two years after the first, and this time when Sammy goes into labour, they’re able to get to a hospital, thank goodness

they swear the weather their babies were born to has influence on their personalities, because their firstborn girl has the personality of wild wind, but their second born girl has the personality of a warm spring day

Sammy is mama, Yaz is mom/mommy

they’re raising their kids bilingual; they speak english with Yaz and Spanish with Sammy

since Yaz didn’t really have a normal childhood she’s all the more keen to make sure her kids have a normal childhood experience with lots of fun things happening for their kids. she’s the one planning most of the day trips to theme parks, museums, aquariums, etc etc

they’re very keen to teach their kids to have responsibilities, especially around the ranch. the kids love helping out (sometimes) (sometimes it’s exhausting but they usually still do it)

Sammy never got an official quinceanera when she turned fifteen (she was on nublar) so she makes sure her girls get the most amazing one when they both turn fifteen. everyone is invited. it’s a huge deal. they have a massive party in the barn and dancing under the fireflies

Sorry this one was late, I had some errands to run yesterday and an 8 hour shift early this morning. I'll try my best to catch up, but I might be a day late on my prompts.

Day 2: Firsts Rating: G/PG Summary: Sammy attends her first marathon. Fortunately, she has an expert partner to coach her along.

"Ready for this, Sammy?" Yaz asked, reaching down to touch her toes. Her hair was done up in a tight bun, preventing any loose strands from obscuring her vision. Sammy had ditched her boots for a nice pair of pink running shoes; courtesy of her amazing girlfriend. After so long sporting boots, this experience felt foreign. It was far more practical for running at least.

Sammy quickly copied her action as Yaz continued to lead her through the stretching exercises. "Ready as I'll ever be," She smiled. This would be the first time since Nublar that she would be running such long distances. And, it was the first time Yaz had done anything akin to track since the island. Plus, it was fundraising for the local hospital in Yaz's district. All around, this would be a fun time. She was thrilled to be able to partake in an experience and hobby that was close to Yaz's heart. She just hoped she could keep up!

"Alright. You know the basics. Conserve your energy until we near the finish. When going downhill, let gravity do the work for you. It'll make your pace far easier, trust me. And don't push yourself too hard. If you need to take a break, we'll take one," Yaz listed, twisting her upper body to loosen her muscles.

"You got it!" Sammy chirped, playfully saluting her. Yaz chuckled and nudged her with her shoulder.

"Runners! To the starting line! We will begin shortly!" A man's voice crackled through a loudspeaker.

Sammy noticed the flame of competition erupt in Yaz's eyes at the announcement. She was so passionate, so confident. Oh, how she wished she had that sense of valor.

Yaz turned her attention onto Sammy and extended a hand. "Ready, cowgirl?"

"Always, track star," Sammy replied, playing up the nickname. Her fingers intertwined with Yaz's and they headed for the starting line.

Sammy's heart beat wildly in her chest as the anticipation began to build. Her first marathon! This was going to be so much fun! 

She was forced to wait-- she hated waiting when she was this excited-- until the announcers dropped the welcome banner and the marathoners took off. Sammy was instantly pulled forward as Yaz shot off like a bullet. She felt like a cartoon character with the way her legs were flailing back and forth.

Yaz glanced over her shoulder and slowed her pace. "Sorry about that. Got a bit carried away," She apologized, her movements deliberate and precise.

Sammy put a bit more pep in her step and took the lead. "Don't tell me you wanna slow down! We've got competition!"

The marathon path snaked through the thinning shops of the town square and out into a lush pine forest. Miniature markers were laid out on the trail, directing them where they should go. Despite the event not being a race per se, the duo kept toward the head of the pack.

They passed by a small blossoming flower field with vibrant daisies. It took Sammy all the self-restraint in the world to not divert off the path and pick a few to give to Yaz. She'd look astonishing in a woven flower crown.

A medial incline was up ahead.

"Remember, Sammy. Let gravity do the work for you," Yaz panted, having vast control over her breathing patterns.

Sammy nodded and powered forward. By the time her and Yaz reached the top, her calves felt like they were on fire. As they descended, Sammy reserved her energy and let motion take hold. The breeze tickled her cheeks as they picked up speed. She couldn't help but laugh, causing Yaz to do the same.

The next locale was to skirt around the edges of a lake. The sand pulled at her feet, a much rougher terrain to balance on and navigate through than hardpacked dirt or concrete. And boy, cannonballing into the water was getting more and more appealing by the second. It was hot. Really hot. Why had they chosen to do this in the summer again?

Sammy wasn't sure how much time had passed when her pace began to slow. She wanted to keep up with Yaz, but her body felt like it was in the process of shutting down all together. With every gulp of air, her chest burned and her throat stung.

"Sammy? Do you need to take a break?" Yaz asked as they crested another hill. She began to slow her own pace.

Sammy shook herself. Come on, Sammy! You can do it!

Maybe she could. From the high vantage point, Sammy could spot the finish line at the bottom of the hill. Several onlookers awaited them, as well as volunteers with numerous water bottles and towels at the ready.

"We're so close. We can't stop now!" She insisted.

"But Sam--"

Sammy released Yaz's hand. Just a little bit further. Her legs felt like jelly and her cheeks burned. The sun was relentless. Was she going to black out?

Yaz suddenly overtook Sammy. She crossed the finish line and spun on her heel. "Come on, Sammy! You got this!" She encouraged, waving her hands. She didn't take Yaz for the cheerleading type, but she sure inspired Sammy.

Yaz was right there! She was waiting for her. Just a few more steps. She could do this, couldn't she? Seeing Yaz standing there, waiting for her, it filled her with hope. Sammy pushed forward with one last burst of energy. Her legs completely gave out from under her and she crashed into Yaz, sending both of them toppling onto the ground.

Sammy blinked, her throat burning and chest heaving as she fought to take in oxygen. Sweat dribbled down the side of her face. She was used to the heat and physical exertion of working on the farm, but she forgot just how taxing running could be. Being chased by dinosaurs had surely lit a fire under her back on Nublar.

Sammy finally snapped back to reality as she moved into a sitting position. Immediately she helped Yaz do the same. "Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?!" She immediately began checking her over for any bruises or scrapes that she might have accidentally inflicted upon her. Exhaustion was thrown to the side as her girlfriend's wellbeing was of far more importance; to her at least. She didn't even care her vision was slightly spinning.

Yaz grabbed her hands. "Sammy. I'm fine, really." Her eyes searched Sammy's expression thoughtfully.

Sammy set a hand on her forehead and wiped away the sweat on her brow. Why was she feeling fuzzy?

Yaz leapt to her feet, dashed over toward one of the water refuel stations, and grabbed two ice cold bottles of water. In seconds, she was right by Sammy's side. "Here, drink this. You're dehydrated," She uncapped one and handed it off.

Sammy brought the bottle to her lips and took in the refreshing icy chill. In ten seconds, she had downed the entire thing.

Yaz held the other bottle against her forehead to help cool her off. With her other hand, she supported Sammy's back in case she fainted. "Feeling better? I don't want you passing out on me. If you need to lie down, I'll help you," She quickly rambled off and bit her lip.

"I'm fine, Yaz," Sammy assured as she leaned against Yaz's shoulder. Her breathlessness had begun to subside, and the water bottle had done wonders for her heat exhaustion. "Just out of it is all. I forgot just how much running takes it out of ya. You make it look so easy."

Yaz chuckled and moved to set a hand atop Sammy's. "It took years of practice to get to where I am today. Or, well, to where I used to be. You did amazing. Besides, I can say the same for you and horseback riding. Remember what a disaster I was trying to ride for the first time?" She teased.

Sammy thought back to that particular, eye-opening experience. "I thought you got an A+ for effort," Sammy mused with a smile. "Give it a few more lessons and you'll be a proper cowgirl in no time."

Yaz laughed. It made Sammy's heart flutter. "I know it's hard for us to find the time when we live so far away... But what do you say about going on a few nature runs with me from time to time? In return, you can give me horseback riding lessons."

Sammy dropped her empty bottle and squealed. "Ooo! That sounds perfect! There are tons of places around the farm with a more scenic view. Or, or-- We could go camping! I've only done it a few times, but I think we'd have tons of fun. We could roast marshmallows, tell spooky stories, cuddle by the campfire. Imagine hiking in the mountains! Going for a morning jog while overlooking a breathtaking view would be just the sight to get us up and going!"

Sammy continued to ramble on with her ideas, Yaz listening intently. There were so many things they had yet to experience together. Where would they go next?
