Writing For New Media experience

Under our lecturer, Mr. Teddy Zabalerio, we have absorbed a way of teaching that we have never experienced before. It was a journey I wasn't expecting, but I coped to it with the help of the people around me.

a. How was your journey in the course writing for new media?

It was a great start, I've been wanting to be literate and learn the fundamentals of being an effective writer and media content creator. My classmates have offered reports that discussed the importance of laws that can protect works, the relationship between the influencers and audience, marketing strategies, and so on.

b. What specific experience in the course made impact to your view of the media platforms and the their dynamics?

Making the podcast stayed with me till now, as it was just done recently and remembering how we dissected the topic, observing how the fans should react and the detail of the imprint she has done to the media. Putting what we've learn in classes in an output that'll make ourselves experience and exert the knowledge we have gained. A great specific of what I'm saying is considering the target audience and how to capture their attention. Being precise and direct is a must, creating a connection, impression, that'll last long in the audience.

c. What can be your contribution to new media writing according to what you have learned in the course?

New media writing should be expecting my content that will have an impact to the viewers. I will create to entertain, adding the fundamentals and principles that I've made known. Contributing the lessons, will help create an environment where information served as exactly as it's needed, not overstepping one's rights, and valuing the creative process and journalism. Helping my co-content creators in reminding the value of their work, is what I am also intending to do. Educating them from time to time, specially if injustice was presented.

✨My Writing For New Media Experience✨

The huge amount of writing involved with the course Writing for New Media has definitely re-shaped the way I view writing content. It was through the works my teammates and I produced that I was able to enhance my ability to connect ideas, and articulate said connected ideas which I believe are detrimental skills that I can contribute as a writer in new media.

It was also through our works from this course that I was able to learn and practice various principles and techniques that I know will be helpful to me in the future.

I learned that as a writer, it is integral that you study before creating content. To become a trusted source, one must thoroughly research for their content to ensure that you only produce trustworthy and informative content for your audience.

Another learning I had is that as a writer, research is a necessity one must balance with originality and respect. Meaning, while it's important to base your content off information, you must ensure that you respect and protect the originality of the work as well as the creativut and effort of the writer of your source material by citing them in your references. No one likes having their works stolen so the best thing we can do to ensure that our fellow writers are respected, is to credit them for their work whenever we use them for your content. It's not that hard to give credit you guys!

Lastly, I learned that writers ought to be responsible. As a writer, what I put out there is my responsibility because it can influence and affect my viewers, so being careful is an automatic necessity. The things we say and make public can be shared to other people so it's important that we share only what is true and write what is appropriate. People mentioned in our content must also be protected from potential threats, negative comments, harassments and the like so as to ensure that they are able to live safely. I would say responsibility is the deepest thing I may have learned from this course because it can be applied to life in general.

If there's anything that I, as a writer can contribute besides my skills, it is the lesson of how our words hold power. Our words can either hurt or help, it is up to us how, and when we speak up. A parent on TikTok once said, “It's okay to be loud so long as you're silent where it matters” while it's great to have the ability and skill to be able to cohesively and coherently articulate your ideas, it is not necessary for us to speak up all the time. Part of being a good writer is knowing when it's best to say something and when it's best to guard our mouth's shut so as to not bring harm to ourselves and others.

I'm honestly greatful for my experience in WFNM, admittedly I was anxious at first especially during the first meetings for the groupings because I wasn't sure how our group would get along but by God's grace we were able to form a team with individuals whoa re quick to jump in to contribute their creative ideas. With God's guidance we were able to push through the sleepless and “writer’s block” type of nights. And so with this blog, I end my finals task performance reminding you to write not just with your mind, but also with your heart 😌💖🫰
