@miidnighters asked: [ arms ] sender hooks their arm with receiver's as they walk prompts for comfortable intimacy (accepting)
A lazy Saturday night, eleven pm. She must be content. She has a belly full of warm, rolling blood, AB-positive. He wonders if the feeling she had feeding this time was like a candlelit bath. Or free-falling. Judging by the way she holds his arm, peering into a shop, he thinks he knows.
“—Kinda much?" he dares, face scrunched. “Don't you think?”
They pass by another shop, this time: jewelry. Sapphire turtle earrings.
“—Wow.”
A little further down the sidewalk, gold-embossed letters: TIFFANY'S BOUTIQUE.
“—'It's the eighties',” he starts, bright, like a telemarketer on the phone. “'We want our shoulder pads back!'”
And Sam can spend the next ten minutes to eternity pretending to be the most impossible critic, Bella beside him maybe smiling. Maybe bright.
They walk by another window. Then, they stop.
It's a cocktail dress, baby-powder white. A mirror stands nearby. With her reflection, it would be easy to picture: Bella in the dress, her lips red and her hair curled, standing over a billowing vent. Bella, he believes, has not seen herself. May not remember the color of her eyes or the slight creases by her nose or the shape of her mouth, how it changes when she's angry. Happy. Sad.
In the mirror: there is nothing at his side. No one on his arm.
“...Bet you could rock it better.” His voice breaks the silence. Sam turns to her, his brow pinched. “Seriously,” he says, pointing at the dress. “Who's Marilyn Monroe?”

Transform Your Walls: Inspiring Wallpaper Styles That Wow!
Updating your home with fresh, captivating wallpaper for wall surfaces can completely transform your space, adding depth, texture, and personality. Choosing the right wallpaper is about creating an experience and making a statement. From bold prints to subtle textures, wallpaper styles today offer endless ways to wow your guests and add sophistication to any room. In this guide, we dive into the most inspiring wallpaper styles that will leave a lasting impression.
Tumblr media
Why Choose Wallpaper for Wall Decoration to Elevate Your Space?
Wallpaper for walls has evolved from a simple decorative covering to a powerful tool for self-expression and design. Today, wallpapers are crafted with high-quality materials and innovative designs, making them both visually stunning and durable. Unlike paint, which often lacks dimension, wallpaper for wall surfaces allows you to play with patterns, textures, and colors in ways that add vibrancy and character to any space.
Bold and Beautiful: Embrace Statement Wallpaper
Nothing says “wow” like a statement wallpaper for wall decoration. These designs feature bold patterns and vibrant colors that draw the eye and create a focal point in any room.
1. Tropical Prints
Tropical wallpaper is a favorite for those who want to bring a lush, vacation vibe into their home. Think of vibrant palm leaves, exotic flowers, and tropical birds in rich greens, blues, and pinks. These prints instantly refresh a space and work beautifully in areas like the living room or bedroom, adding a bit of the tropics to your everyday life.
2. Geometric Patterns
Geometric wallpaper for wall applications has surged in popularity due to its contemporary appeal. From bold hexagons to intricate diamonds, geometric patterns create a visual rhythm that adds a modern, edgy feel to a room. These designs work especially well in spaces where you want to make a strong statement, such as entryways, bathrooms, or accent walls.
3. Floral Masterpieces
Classic yet reinvented, floral wallpaper remains timeless. Modern floral designs vary from oversized, painterly flowers to delicate, intricate blossoms, making them versatile enough for traditional and contemporary spaces. Use floral wallpapers in areas where you want to evoke elegance, such as dining rooms or formal sitting rooms.
Textured Wallpaper: Add Depth and Dimension
Textured wallpapers bring a tactile element to your space, adding depth and an upscale feel. Perfect for spaces where you want a subtle yet impactful change, these designs can transform your walls without overwhelming them.
4. Grasscloth Wallpaper
Made from natural fibers like jute or sisal, grasscloth wallpaper for walls has a distinct organic feel and visual texture. It’s ideal for creating a calming, earthy atmosphere and pairs beautifully with neutral or minimalist decor. Grasscloth works well in spaces like bedrooms or studies, where you want to add warmth and depth.
5. Linen and Fabric Wallpaper
Linen wallpaper, often made from real fabric, adds an air of sophistication. Its understated texture can add a soft, cozy vibe to spaces without taking attention away from other design elements. Fabric wallpapers are especially well-suited for bedrooms and libraries, where a quieter elegance is desired.
6. Embossed Patterns
For an elegant and upscale feel, embossed wallpaper for walls adds intricate detailing that feels luxurious. These wallpapers often come in metallic finishes, which catch the light and add a glimmer to your walls. Embossed wallpaper works wonders in dining rooms, hallways, and powder rooms, where they can truly shine.
Nature-Inspired Designs: Bringing the Outdoors In
Nature-inspired wallpaper for wall use has become a popular choice as homeowners seek to create serene, inviting spaces that connect with the natural world. These designs evoke a sense of tranquility and harmony.
7. Botanical Patterns
Botanical wallpaper brings delicate leaves, vines, and natural motifs into your home, creating a peaceful ambiance. These patterns are perfect for relaxing and unwinding spaces, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, and even kitchens. The soft greens and earthy tones are calming, and perfect for a restful environment.
8. Scenic Murals
For those who want to make a breathtaking statement, scenic murals transport you to a whole new world. From serene landscapes to beautiful forests, these murals cover entire walls with stunning, panoramic views. Scenic murals are ideal for large living room or bedroom walls, creating a true escape within your home.
9. Faux Marble and Stone
Faux marble wallpaper provides a luxurious look without the high cost of real stone. It’s a popular choice for bathrooms and entryways, where the glossy, marbled patterns add sophistication and make the space feel larger. Stone and marble designs work well in modern and minimalist interiors, adding an upscale, elegant finish.
Vintage and Retro Revival: Nostalgia with Style
Vintage wallpaper styles bring a sense of nostalgia, combining classic motifs with modern sensibilities. These wallpapers add charm and character, giving your space a unique, personalized touch.
10. Art Deco Glamour
Art Deco-inspired wallpaper for walls is all about luxury and sophistication. Featuring symmetrical designs, gold accents, and glamorous motifs, these wallpapers are perfect for creating a touch of the 1920s allure. Art Deco wallpaper works well in dining rooms, home bars, or any area where you want to add a bit of vintage charm.
11. Damask Patterns
Damask patterns are timeless and elegant, often seen in high-end interiors. They’re intricate and symmetrical, with motifs that add richness to any room. While damask can be bold, choosing a muted tone or a soft metallic can help it blend seamlessly with modern decor. This wallpaper style is ideal for formal spaces such as dining rooms or home libraries.
12. Retro Pop Art
Retro pop art wallpaper is vibrant, playful, and full of character. Featuring bold colors, funky patterns, and quirky designs, it’s perfect for creative spaces or kids' rooms. With retro pop art, you can make a statement that reflects your unique personality and brings a lively, energetic vibe into the room.
Modern Minimalism: Less is More
For a sleek, contemporary feel, minimalist wallpaper is an excellent choice. These designs emphasize simplicity and clean lines, often using neutral colors and subtle patterns that create a calm, uncluttered look.
13. Monochrome Designs
Monochrome wallpapers in shades of gray, white, or beige are perfect for creating a chic, modern vibe. Subtle textures or soft gradients add depth without overwhelming the room, making these wallpapers ideal for minimalist or Scandinavian-inspired interiors. Monochrome designs work well in living rooms, offices, and open spaces.
14. Line Art
Line art wallpaper features abstract, minimalist drawings that add a creative touch without being too loud. These designs are often in black and white, which gives them a versatile, contemporary edge. Line art wallpaper is perfect for modern spaces like home offices, studios, or entryways, where you want to keep the look clean and refined.
15. Metallic Accents
Metallic wallpapers bring a touch of luxury and elegance, with gold, silver, or copper accents that catch the light. These wallpapers are ideal for spaces where you want a hint of glamour without overwhelming the decor. Metallic accents work beautifully in bathrooms, accent walls, or areas where you want a bit of sparkle.
How to Choose the Perfect Wallpaper for Your Home
Selecting wallpaper involves more than just picking a pattern. Consider the room’s function, lighting, and your style. For example:
Bedrooms benefit from calming, nature-inspired designs or textured wallpaper for a cozy ambiance.
Living Rooms can be transformed with bold patterns or scenic murals, making the space feel lively and welcoming.
Kitchens and Bathrooms often suit washable wallpapers in fun prints or natural textures, which add character without overpowering these functional spaces.
Transforming your walls with inspiring wallpaper styles is an exciting journey. Whether you lean toward bold tropical prints, understated textures, or vintage charm, wallpaper for wall decoration allows you to express yourself and elevate your space like never before. With so many options available, there’s no reason to settle for blank walls—create an environment that feels uniquely yours and makes every corner of your home an unforgettable experience.

Blaise Zabini x Reader
Chapter Summary: You and Blaise slowly come to terms with the feelings that have been hanging in the air, along with the future of the book club.
Warnings: The tiniest dash of angst for about 0.1 seconds, boatloads of fluff.
Word count: Approx 2800

A/N: Hi loves! Here is the final part of this series! Wow I was not ready for this to be over, I've found this series incredibly comforting to write. It took me a little while to write the last part purely because I just wasn't quite ready to end it yet, but I'm really really happy with how this chapter came out. Additionally, I'm really looking forward to writing more for sweet Blaise and I've been thinking about writing a few standalone pieces that might fit into this little universe. I'm not sure yet!! Let me know if you're interested. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this series, I am so SO proud of it, thank you so so SO much for reading it! 💕
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a calm, quiet afternoon, the old loft windows in the library were pushed open and secured on their old latches, the smell of fresh air mixed with the ever cosy scent of wood polish and old books making it all the more delightful to spend time in the library. Sifting through your bag, you pulled out the books you needed to return to Madam Pince, wondering what you might pick up this week, deciding that it needed to be something special.
You clocked Theo walking in with Cho and Neville at either side of him, the three of them chatting quietly amongst themselves as they began to make their way across to the table you all usually sat at. Looking over towards them as you placed your books on the library check out desk, you realised that having him there had become normal. Having all three of the Slytherin boys in your group had become normal and you weren’t sure you really wanted it to end.
“All of you have been reading a lot of romance as of late.” Madam Pince observed as she slid the books across the desk so she could stamp the library slips inside of the covers. “It’s spring, it brings out the romance, doesn’t it?” You said, idly fiddling with the closure on your bag, missing the way Madam Pince gave you a knowing look. “I suppose it does.” She replied before stamping your library slip and handing it back to you.
Stepping across the library floor, you made your way through the rows of shelves, passing the tables of students chatting and studying quietly, some of them reading, others getting their homework done before the weekend. But as you continued towards the table near the back where the golden hour of sun glowed so beautifully across the deep chestnut hues of the furniture and the aged spines of books that were all positioned neatly on their shelves, you caught sight of him. Blaise.
You wondered if he hadn’t noticed you first, his eyes seemingly already on your approaching figure, his smile bright and lopsided, a sight you had gotten fast used to and yet did not want to lose so quickly in the matter of an hour. “There you are.” He said, stepping over towards you with a book in hand. “Here I am.” You smiled, looking up at him with a sweet smile on your lips, trying your best to conceal the way his smile and his voice made your heart leap.
You had not yet forgotten the way his hand had felt in yours just a week prior, the way he had brushed his fingers against yours and held you with such a gentle grip. Was it too much to ask for that again? To feel the fluttering of something akin to love in your chest or the light airy feeling of something new, something delightfully thrilling.
“What are you reading this week?” You asked quietly as he placed the book he had been looking at back on the shelf. “What would you have me read?” Blaise asked, watching as you pulled your bag off your shoulder and pulled out a chair to set it down on. “Me?” You almost gasped, sounding a little surprised by the question. “Well is there anyone else I’d ask for book recommendations?” Blaise teased, stepping a little closer to you and placing his hand on the back of the chair you had placed your bag on. Smiling shyly and struggling to meet his gaze, you giggled softly. “I suppose not.” You replied, shrugging off your robes to get more comfortable.
“Jane Eyre.” You suddenly said, looking up at him. “You should read Jane Eyre.” You added, awkwardly fiddling with your robes as you draped them over the back of your seat. “Is it romance?” He asked. You knew by now that he was very fond of romance, especially period romance and while it surprised you, it also warmed your heart to know he loved a genre you enjoyed too. “Yes, it’s a classic romance.” You replied. Blaise smiled. He always found himself gazing at you with an uncontrollable smile, it was impossible to keep his usually controlled demeanor in check around you. Perhaps it was your shyness that just seemed so sweet, or maybe it was your kind, gentle nature that made him inexplicably happy.
“Show me where to find it?” Blaise asked, holding out his hand for you. Glancing down at his hand, you felt your heart flutter. What if this wasn’t all a one off feeling between you, perhaps he too was immersed by lingering thoughts of love and attraction. “Of course.” You replied, gently placing your hand in his. Your touch was hesitant at first, his eyes capturing yours for a moment as he carefully grasped your hand in his. Blaise was gentle and soft, his touch just as exhilarating and sweet as the previous week and you felt your breath hitch in your throat before you met his eyes with an amative gaze.
Gently you closed your fingers around his hand and led him towards one of the many sections of muggle fiction within the library. As you both dipped between a couple of bookshelves, you watched as Hermione and Draco rushed in with Ginny in front of them, Hermione hissing at them both about how they were late and it was all Malfoy’s fault.
And while Blaise snorted at their antics, the two of you overhearing Hermione whisper yell as they all began to settle down at the nearby table, you trawled through the shelves in search of a copy of Jane Eyre, all while his hand held yours.
“Here it is.” You spoke softly, reaching up to grasp the copy, a soft dusty pink clothbound spine with a beautifully imprinted and silver embossed title. Blaise smiled at you as he gently took the book from you with his free hand, still holding onto you with the other. “Let me pick one out for you?” He asked, watching as you nodded, smiling rather uncontrollably. How was it that he knew just how to fluster you? All you needed was a sweet boy to hold your hand and talk to you about books and here Blaise Zabini was, doing those exact things and making it seem so romantic.
If only he knew how it made you feel. How he made you feel.
A soft, pale powder blue copy of Arabella was passed to you moments later. “Theo told me this was a good book.” Blaise said, watching as you smiled down at the book in your hands. “Did he now? I never thought Theo would be interested in Regency romance.” You mused, peering around the edge of the bookcase to catch a glimpse of the Slytherin sitting side by side with Neville, who now he seemed closer than ever with, along with Cho who seemed to have warmed up to him. You smiled, watching as Theo read a book over Neville’s shoulder. You managed to see which novel it was they were reading when Neville shuffled around a bit, revealing the lovely old illustrated cover of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
“Neither did I, but he seems to be full of surprises.” Blaise said softly as he leaned over you, his hand landing gently on your upper arm, the warmth of his presence behind you nearly melted you, nearly made you want to lean back into him. But you were not more than friends with the odd soft touch and longing gaze. In truth it felt as if it could be more, but knowing this was his last week that he would have to attend your book club, you were still unsure if this was something fleeting.
You found yourself perfectly comfortable beside Blaise as you read together in a comfortable chair, his arm resting over the back of the seat behind you while he held his book in the other hand. You tried hard not to lean into his side and you stayed comfortably close.
And while the bell tolled lowly in the background, signalling the turn of the hour, you still had hope that the boys might stay, because it truly would not be the same without them.
Getting up from your seat, you began to walk back towards the table, though you were stopped in your paces when you felt Blaise’s hand rest softly on your shoulder.
“Sweetheart.” Blaise’s low voice rolled through you, warm, sweet and yet there was an edge to it that scared you, that scared your heart. Turning in his grip, you faced him shyly, the sweet name he used for you making your chest warm and your thoughts hazy with adoration. Adoration that you quickly pushed aside. But it all seemed like a helpless attempt when Blaise reached up, gently brushing the backs of his fingers against your cheek. You leaned into him, into his warm touch, your eyes fluttering shut for a moment, breath hitching at the intimacy of the moment. And you looked up at him, eyes softening with something akin to fear and something deeper, something that looked as if it swam deep below the surface.
“What is it?” You asked, clutching the book tightly against your chest. “There’s something on your mind.” He prompted, watching as you looked shyly down at your feet. “This is all fleeting. You’ll leave and- this will have been no more than part of your detention.” You voiced your worry, somehow confident enough to let your feelings air, ones you had been hesitant to even acknowledge for several weeks now; though you still could not meet his eyes no matter how easy it had been to say the words.
There was a soft sigh, heavy swallow before his fingers gently lifted your chin. “You truly think I’d leave after all this club has brought me?” Blaise asked. “It’s much more than just books and an hour of reading in company each week.” He said. “It’s friendship,” Blaise tilted his head towards Neville, Theo and Cho. “And the way your club brought out the better in all of us.” He smiled softly, his eyes now on Draco as he read quietly with Hermione and Ginny, the three of them sharing the odd bit of chatter now and again. “And for me it’s something else. You make me feel,” He paused, the words resting on his tongue. Wonderful. Accepted. In love. “You make me feel like I’m meant to be here. You make me feel.” Blaise stopped. Because you did make him feel. You made him feel everything. Others might have stunted his feelings in the past, things slowly adding up to prompt him to build his mask of stoic temperament. But it was your passion and your love and kindness that brought out the things in Blaise that he long had forgotten. You made him feel energetic, as if there was nothing more amazing in the world than being in your presence and sharing a moment with you.
“What I’m trying to say is that I’m not leaving after this week. I’m not leaving as long as you’ll allow me to stay. This club has become my escape just as books always have been and you have been my guide.” He explained. “You’ll stay?” You asked, barely above a whisper. “As long as you’ll have me.” Blaise spoke softly to you, your eyes meeting his, wide with the warmth of adoration and the softness of simple romance.
And where his words failed to express what he truly felt in his muddled moment, encased in worry and a desperate rush to get it all out, he made up for with gestures of his feelings instead. Leaning in, Blaise gently pressed you against the bookcase, carefully taking the book you held in your grasp and placing both of your books on the shelf beside you. “Can I kiss you?” He asked, words brushing softly against your lips, your heart fluttering and racing with the wild, unequivocal feelings of love. “Please.” It was a whisper, one that was not desperate nor rushed, but soft and sweet and accompanied by the way your lashes fluttered, eyes slowly sliding shut as Blaise closed the gap between you, his lips meeting yours with a gentle touch.
His kiss was slow and sweet, his thumb coming up to rest against your cheek as he held you, one hand at the nape of your neck and the other resting at your waist. His lips captured yours in a moment of slow, amative bliss, kissing you tenderly until you found yourself breathless, your delicate fingers grasping at the edges of his Slytherin robes.
Slowly parting from you, just enough to catch your gaze, Blaise smiled softly. You felt stunned, but in the best of ways, mind reeling with thoughts and feelings of love. You supposed there had always been something so peaceful about sharing time together to read, but even more so now that you had allowed your feelings to feel.
“I got you something.” Neville said shyly, one hand rubbing the back of his neck as he held out a beautiful old copy of The Secret Garden for Theo to take, the brunette grinning at his friend before taking it from him. “You shouldn’t.” He shook his head, unable to stop himself from beaming at the kind gesture. “Thank you. I’ll read it with you next week.” Theo said, gently patting Neville’s shoulder. “You’re not leaving the club?” Neville asked, his voice full of hope. Theo glanced around the group, his eyes landing on Cho and Neville. “Nah, I have a feeling that even if I tried to leave I’d end up back here anyway.” He grinned, the three of them sharing great delight as Neville pulled Theo in for an unexpected, though appreciated hug.
“I suppose you’ll go back to bullying us again, will you?” Hermione asked Draco as she began to pack her bag. Draco eyed her, his glare softening. It was not love he felt, more something like the beginnings of a friendship. His eyes travelled around the room, falling onto you and Blaise for a moment and then over to Theo and his new found friendships. Attending the club had been a punishment and while Draco had acted as if he hated it, he knew that beyond his usually brooding and snarky behaviour, he had begun to hold the club in high regards. “No.” Draco said simply. “No?” Ginny asked, looking up at him with a challenging stare. “I can’t bully people I like, can I?” He sneered, and while it came out rather unfriendly, they all knew that he was being sincere. That Draco had actually grown fond of you all. “Will you come back next week?” Hermione asked. “We’ll see, Granger.” Were his last words to her before he pulled his bag onto his shoulder and took his leave.
“I’ll walk you back to your common room, sweetheart.” Blaise said, waiting until you had pulled your robes back on before he gently took your hand in his. “And perhaps we can plan a date?” He added, watching as your smile became uncontrollable and you giggled in your flustered, shy state, overwhelmed but in the best of ways. “I’d love that.”
And with that, Blaise pulled you close. He put his arm around your shoulders, his hand leaning down to hold your hand as you made your way out of the library as a pair, but not for the last time. There would be many more times, your hand in his each time. And you counted yourself lucky, because you had found love between the pages and it was undeniably real.

Cards for Pam
Hey Crafty Friends,
Welcome back, today I'm sharing inspiration using the new release from Crafty Purple Frog, for my project today it was extra special. I've put this together to send across the pond to the US to a lady who had some devastating news recently. If you would like to participate and also send a card please visit Rachel's profile here or search for #cardsforpam to see all the wonderful love that is being spread by the crafty community for this lady.
Tumblr media
I started with a rounded stitched rectangle panel and used the lily pad layering stencil for my background. for the water bubbles I decided to give the background some sparkle using Nuvo Glitter paste.
For the images I have coloured using a variety of Spectrum Noir and Copics. The Frog is using PL Illustrators, i think these my favourite purple colouring mediums!
The sentiment die is by Lawn Fawn, I die cut from coloured card stock twice to add some thickness and embossed with clear wow embossing powder to give it a nice shine adding in 'from across the pond' to add a nice touch!
Tumblr media
This was a really simple card to put together yet effective and I love how it turned out!
Until next time, happy crafting!

MLHolidays2k19 24. Jingle Bells
How many Lukanette meet-cutes can I write? Apparently a lot.
Luka stared at the wall of small jars in front of him, debating between actually searching through the hundreds of labels, and walking out and telling Juleka that this store was out too. His sister was on some kind of quest to find a very specific type of glitter that Rose desperately needed. Juleka had been to five craft stores and Luka to three, but he was beginning to feel like maybe he should just let Juleka work this one out on her own.
Except he couldn’t abandon his sister on Christmas, because he loved her and also because he was a sucker. Also because of a little niggling fear that she might know the way she sometimes did, and it was hard to guard against the revenge of a sister with whom you shared a room.
He jumped and whirled at a yelp behind him, just in time to see a girl tumble into a display of boxed jingle bells artistically but impractically stacked in the middle of the store aisle. Even as he jogged over to the help, the poor girl curled up and covered her head with her arms as jingle bells of all sizes tumbled from their boxes and rained down on her.
Luka’s ears were still ringing from the disaster when he reached the scene and knelt next to the girl. “Are you all right?” he asked the girl softly, laying a hand on her arm. “That looked like it hurt.”
“Oh, it’s no big deal,” she laughed shakily, rubbing her head and looking over herself. “I mean when it comes to me a few more bumps and bruises don’t really matter. I collect them like some people collect stamps.”
“I think you need a better hobby,” Luka chuckled, helping her up with a slight jingling as they sent bells of various sizes rolling, and his stomach did a little flip when she laughed. Oh no you don’t, Luka thought at it grimly. I am absolutely not doing this again. No more insta-crushes for the rest of the year, I swore.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Luka and the girl both turned their heads and winced at the look on the store employee’s face. He looked about Luka’s age and his name tag said Tim.
“I’m so sorry,” gasped the girl, looking at the devastation of bells around her. “I’m so, so sorry, there was one on the floor and I slipped on it and I—I’m so so sorry.”
“Yeah, right, that’s why you were standing here laughing it up. You think this is funny? You probably knocked it down on purpose just to make more work for poor saps like me.” Tim scowled.
The girl shrank in on herself. “N-no, I really am so sorry—I’m super clumsy, I tripped and—I’m so sorry, I’ll help clean it up I swear—”
“Hey, friend, listen,” Luka said, taking a quick step forward. “I saw the whole thing, she really didn’t do it on purpose. She honestly fell, and let’s be honest, man, it probably wasn’t the best display to put out in the middle of the aisle like that. It was bound to come down eventually.” He grinned. “I’ll bet you told management that, huh?”
“Yeah,” Tim admitted, folding his arms. “I did, and they made me put it up anyway. It took hours.”
“I’m so sorry,” Luka said sympathetically. “That really sucks and I know you’ve got to be crazy busy today. But look, like she said, we’ll help you clean it up—”
“Nah, don’t worry about it,” Tim sighed, deflating. “At least I get paid to deal with it. Don’t worry about it. Are you okay?” he asked belatedly, looking to the girl behind Luka.
“Yes, I’m fine,” she said meekly. “Are you sure you don’t want help—”
“No, you guys just get on with your day,” he smiled, waving her off. “I have to be here until closing anyway, at least I’ve got an excuse not to talk to customers for a while.” He winced, looking over his shoulder, probably hoping his supervisor hadn’t heard.
“Thank you,” she said, and Luka thought she must have smiled, because the employee blushed a bit.
“No problem miss,” he said. “I’ll just, um...go get a broom and a bucket to put all these in.”
“Thanks for being cool about it, man,” Luka smiled.
“And thank you,” the girl said as the employee left, looking up at Luka with huge blue eyes and a soft smile. Oh wow, no wonder that guy—no, nope. No. “I should have said something but I couldn’t think anything except ‘I can not be the person who caused an akuma on Christmas Eve.’ Thank you so much. Uh, my name’s Marinette, by the way.”
“I’m Luka,” he smiled. “Everyone gets a little tense this close to Christmas, especially retail workers. Most of the time they just need a reminder that they deserve to be treated like humans too.”
“That’s very insightful,” Marinette said, her smile growing a little. “You must be a very kind person, Luka.”
Luka’s face heated (oh no no no stop that) and he shrugged. “I just try to put kindness out there and hope it will come back to me.”
“Um, well, can I buy you a cup of coffee next door?” Marinette said, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “So at least a little bit of kindness comes back to you today?”
Ugh, she’s too cute. “I’d really like to,” Luka sighed, and meant it. “But I’m here on a mission and my sister will kill me if I blow her off.”
“Ah,” Marinette giggled. “A Christmas craft emergency?”
“Something like that,” Luka rolled his eyes. “Unfortunately this is way out of my wheelhouse and her very specific instructions are Greek to me. I was going I to ask someone, but—“ He shot a look back in the direction the worker had gone. “I think maybe I won’t bother him again.”
“Maybe I can help?” Marinette asked shyly, and Luka smiled, pulling up the message from Juleka and handing it over. Marinette frowned at it for a moment, and then her face lit up. “Oh, you need glitter, not embossing powder, you’re totally in the wrong section! I can show you—“ She backed up a step and turned, but her foot caught on another display rack and she pitched forward with a yelp.
Luka had seen the whole thing coming as soon as she stepped back, and was already lunging after her as she turned. He caught Marinette with one arm around her waist and caught the display rack with his other hand just in time to keep it from toppling over. For a moment they hung suspended in a battle of physics, but Marinette managed to shift her weight into him just enough to give him the leverage he needed to get her fully upright.
“Nice reflexes,” Marinette said weakly, hunching her shoulders. “I’m sorry, I’m so clumsy. I shouldn’t be let out of the house.”
“You’re fine,” Luka said, breathing a little hard from the effort. Marinette was heavier than she looked. “Maybe just slow down a bit?” he suggested with a smile.
“Right,” she giggled, handing back his phone, which she had somehow managed to hang on to the whole time. “That’s probably a reminder I could use more often.”
I’d be happy to—No, damnit!
“Well,” he said, gesturing onward. “You were saying?”
Marinette smile. “It’s this way,” she said, setting off at a less frantic pace.
“I guess you come here often?” Luka asked as she guided them through the store. She was surprisingly efficient, when she wasn’t crashing into things.
“Pretty often,” Marinette said cheerfully. “I make a lot of things myself—more with fabric than paper, but you know, sometimes you just need a touch of glitter to make things perfect! What’s your sister making?”
“I have no idea, honestly,” Luka admitted. “She just said she needed it, so here I am.”
“Aww, you’re such a good brother,” Marinette said, reaching out and squeezing his arm lightly. His pulse jumped. He could almost hear Juleka now. Ugh, you’re pathetic, a little attention from a pretty girl and you lose your mind completely. “Here we go, it should be down here,” Marinette said, guiding him down an aisle that looked exactly like the one he had been in before.
A label on the shelf caught his eye. “Wait, isn’t this it?” Luka paused, reaching for the jar.
“No, no, that’s coarse and your message said ultra fine,” Marinette said, grabbing his hand and tugging him further down the aisle. “It’ll be down here.”
She didn’t let go of his hand as she studied the shelf, and he didn’t quite have the heart to pull it back, though he continued berating himself in his head. He’d never much minded his tendency to develop spontaneous crushes. It gave him something to think about, something happy for his daydreams instead of day to day worries and the crushing weight of the future. He accepts it, he enjoys it, and then he plays it out and lets it go when it’s time for it to drift away and most of the time the people he’s thinking about don’t even know.
Not all the time though. The last one ended very badly, and rather publicly, and resulted in a lot of embarrassment for him. Luka had decided to make more of an effort to keep his heart to himself, for a little while.
Apparently he’d let the bad habit go on too long, though, because he was having a lot of trouble resisting the pull now, and he didn’t even know this girl.
Marinette squealed in triumph and let go of his hand to go over to the shelf and reach up. She stood on her toes, and her shirt rode up a little, and Luka’s eyes widened slightly as she stretched. Marinette had great abs. No wonder she felt so heavy even though she looked so thin, if she was built like that.
“I can’t quite reach it, can you—” she turned to look at him, and Luka jolted as she caught him staring.
“Shit, sorry,” he said, blushing hard as he looked away. “I didn’t mean to stare, that’s just an impressive six pack you’ve got there.” Smooth. Someone just kill me, please.
Marinette grinned and winked at him, and he was sure he actually did die a little bit inside. “I’m secretly a superhero,” she giggled, and he couldn’t help laughing in return. No, no, don’t laugh, don’t watch her be cute, argh… “The glitter you need is right up there, but I’m not quite tall enough.”
“Oh, yeah, I got it,” he said quickly, stepping up beside her. He picked up the jar that had been just out of her reach. “Wow, only one left.” Luka took out his phone and compared the label to the message Juleka had sent him. “Yes, this is it. Awesome.” He took a picture of the jar and sent it to Juleka, and then looked up and grinned. “Thanks, Marinette.”
“I’m so glad I could help,” she grinned back, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet. “Mission accomplished, yay!”
“So, uh,” Luka began (no, don’t do it, don’t do it), “Is that coffee still on the table? Although I think I might owe you now.” Idiot.
The way Marinette brightened was bad for his heart. “I’d love to. Um, let me grab what I needed and meet you at the checkout?”
“Perfect,” Luka grinned. “See you soon.” Don’t flirt, what are you doing, dumbass, haven’t we been through this enough times this year? Ugh, but she’s really sweet.
When Juleka found him at the café with Marinette, their cups were empty and so were the plates in front of them. Luka was watching Marinette lick one last bit of chocolate frosting on her fork with much more than polite interest, when Juleka’s hand crashed down on his shoulder, making him jump nearly a foot.
“Juleka!” he scowled, “Are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
“Maybe you’d have heard me coming if you weren’t distracted,” Juleka said, digging her fingers into his shoulder. “Hi, Marinette.”
“Hi Juleka,” Marinette grinned. “Merry Christmas.”
“Same,” Juleka replied, and he didn’t have to look up to know she was smiling. “Thanks for helping out my stupid brother. I’m assuming you’re the real hero here.”
“Oh. Oh!” Marinette’s eyes widened, eyes darting back and forth between the two of them. “Oh my gosh, I should have realized.”
“Nah,” Luka shrugged. “Juleka looks way more like our mom. Unfortunately I take after our dad. I didn’t realize you two knew each other.”
“She’s in my class, dummy,” Juleka said dryly. “You remember the pictures? I showed you Marinette specifically because she made them happen.” She leaned down, and for once he was grateful for her signature mumble. “You thought she was cute then too.”
“Shut up,” he hissed back.
Marinette started to say something and then jumped as her phone alarm went off. She looked at it and her eyes went huge. “Oh no, Madame Chamack’s party—I’m supposed to babysit! I’m so sorry Luka, Juleka, I have to go!”
“Careful,” Luka said, reaching out to catch her arm as she got tangled in her chair trying to get up. “Slow down, remember?”
“I really can’t this time,” she smiled. “But I’ll try to be careful at least.” She headed for the café entrance. “It was nice meeting you!” Marinette called over her shoulder as she fumbled the door open, waving, and Luka waved back, a familiar smile stretching his face, and he knew he was doomed.
Juleka saw it, and rolled her eyes. “Again, Luka, seriously? Ugh, you’re pathetic, a little attention from a pretty girl and you lose your mind completely.”
Luka put his head down on his arms and groaned. “I know, right?” he grumbled. “I tried but she’s so cute and nice…”
Juleka gave an exasperated sigh, but then seemed to reconsider. “Well…” she said slowly. “Actually, you could do a lot worse than Marinette. She’d be good for you. She’s sweet, really smart, and a lot of fun. Even if she turned you down, assuming you got the guts to actually confess in the first place, she’d be nice about it.” Once again, he doesn’t have to see the look on her face to know she’s smirking. He can read the subtle changes of her dry tones just as easily as as his mother’s boisterous cries. “You’d get a lot of music out of a girl like her.”
“This is your idea of helping, isn’t it?” Luka said flatly.
“No,” Juleka’s smirk widened. “Helping would be giving you her number, which I happen to have.” Luka sat up. “But what would I get out of this? If I’m going to have to listen to you sigh like a sap over my friend for a couple months, what’s in it for me?”
Luka raised an eyebrow and took the vial of glitter out of his pocket. “Thanks to Marinette, I got the last jar,” he said smugly, holding it up. “How do you think Rose is going to react when you bring her the last jar of ultra fine unicorn rainbow sparkle blah blah whatever in Paris?”
“Done,” Juleka said immediately, snatching at the jar. Luka moved it easily out of reach. Juleka sighed and pulled out her phone.

Tag: Word Find III
For this one I was tagged by @writingmyassoff! Again, forever ago, but it’s getting done. I was given the words clinging, scarlet, endless, and shimmering.
Once again, these snippets are coming from Indigo Wars: Book 1.
CLINGING
She accepted the letter in her trembling hands. Her motions were laborious as she opened the envelope and unfolded the sheaf of papers inside. She read what was written silently, with unshed tears clouding her eyes, shaking like a leaf the whole time. They remained like that for several minutes, Twila reading and Violet watching helplessly. She reached the end of the final page but remained staring unseeing at the paper. Finally—finally—a high-pitched wail escaped from somewhere deep inside of her and she collapsed to the ground.
Violet rushed to her, kneeling next to her and allowing Twila to cling to the front of her dress. Violent sobs racked her thin frame and tears poured down her face. She barely even sounded human with how much pain was bleeding out of her. Violet didn’t know what to say, or if she should say anything at all. She just hugged Twila as she cried, holding her and not saying a word.
SCARLET
“Any news on Malvinia?” she asked.
“Yes, actually. That’s the other reason I’m here.”
“You mean you’re not just here to check on Vi?” Rose teased in a deadpan. Poppy scratched her nose to hide her smile, and even Violet couldn’t stop her lips from curving as she took a bite of her food.
Kaden blinked at her with his lips parted, ears shifting from pink to scarlet. “I, uh…”
“I’m joking with you,” Rose clarified.
“Right.” He still looked doubtful but returned his attention to Violet. “They’re waking Malvinia up and I figured you’d want to be there.”
ENDLESS
She stepped to the side of the hall so she would be out of the way and took a steadying breath. Since learning how to contain it, she’d only ever purposely used her magic out of anger. She wasn’t sure she would be able to control it once she let it go even if it was for a noble purpose. Nevertheless, she had to try. She released a thin tendril of magic to connect to whatever was calling to it.
A bolt of pain shot through her temple. She slammed a hand into the wall just in time to keep herself from collapsing. Her vision went white, her mind filled with a high-pitched whine, and her other senses battled between two different experiences. Her own fast breathing blurred into the fast breathing of her host, the white walls around her and around them blending into an endless expanse of stone like she had put two mirrors together and was seeing them reflect each other into nothingness. Shouting, laughing, talking, voices all layering together. Scents of perfumes and people and the bit of wine that she’d gotten on her hand when she’d been putting the cork back in the bottle. Her hand on the wall, her hand holding the embossed handle of a knife. The pressure on her chest, on her mind, the fog, the chaos—
The connection was severed as her body hit the floor.
SHIMMERING
Twila opened a drawer full of powders and brushes, reviewed them, then chose a few to use.
“Don’t worry, I’m leaving your look mostly natural so it’s easier to get a wow reaction from people later with a less dramatic look. Plus, what you were wearing yesterday was fairly heavy so your skin could use a break,” she explained. She only darkened Violet’s eyelids a few shades, applied a hint of rouge to her cheeks, and used the palest of lip shimmers.
Violet looked through the various powders. “Where did all of these come from?”
“Queen Isobel wanted to make sure you all had plenty of choice when you arrived so you’d have an easier time fitting in with the ladies of the court. There’s a handful of things from her around. She turned into a bit of a mother hen when she was told how young you all were.”
Woo! Another one filled out! No more languishing on my to-do list!
I’m going to tag @storyteller-kaelo, @trickster-writes, and @penzag (when you come back from hiatus)! If you choose to participate, your words are water, tree, bite, and sign. As always, no pressure!

Lots-A-Bubbles Slimline | WOW Embossing
Lots-A-Bubbles Slimline | WOW Embossing
I absolutely LOVED making this slimline card with some of the awesome goodies from WOW Embossing Powder’s latest release!! For the background I used the new slimline Lotsa Bubbles stencil to add Catherine Pooler Cummerbund ink. These inks dry slower than most dye inks and so they can be embossed, but with this large an area I didn’t think I could get everything inked and then get the powder on…

Impressive Heat Embossing
Wow, what a wonderful class this was. So many great ways to use heat embossing. I made two cards for this class. The first one was a sympathy card. For this card I used Altenew’s Beautiful Bergenia 3D embossing folder and heavy weight black cardstock. Once the cardstock was embossed I gently rubbed the VersaMark ink pad over the raised part of the images. I then sprinkled gold embossing powder…

Tanjore Paintings: Wow Reasons why the Artform Still Fascinates!
Of all the South Indian painting forms, Thanjavur's style of painting is probably one of the most popular and classical forms of art for all the right reasons. Native to Thanjavur, which is also known as Tanjore in Tamil Nadu, this great southern art form took its inspiration way back in time. Its origin is said to be traced back to around 1600 AD. It is said that their dense artistic work along with the vibrancy of the various colors coupled with the rich surface makes these Thanjavur paintings highly distinct from almost all other forms of Indian paintings. It goes without a doubt that Tanjore paintings hold a very rich heritage and was a treasured possession of the Nayakas of Thanjavur and were proudly introduced by the Chola Dynasty in the 16th century, under the supreme reign of Vijayanagar Rayas. Nowadays, these paintings have even become a delicate but dedicated part of the souvenirs held high on several festive occasions.
But these aren't the only reasons that classify Tanjore paintings as priceless art. They come with so much history, fine intricacy, and soul that the reasons would surely kindly your spirits to purchase one of your own.
Reason #1-The making
The making of the Tanjore painting is from another dimension. The most significant feature of a Tanjore Painting is its 3D property. It is a lesser-known fact that the Tanjore Painting is the only painting to have an embossment on it. That is, the painting comes with areas that are slightly or prominently elevated from the surface. The capacity to which the painting can be diversified is an endless list. The composition of a traditional Tanjore painting can range anywhere between a wooden plank to the pastings made of Arabic gum. Powdered limestone acts as the binding medium which gently coats the canvas evenly and is then left to dry. The artist then begins to add details to the sketch. Semi-precious gemstones and bright vibrant hues are embedded in particular areas, many that of pillars, arches, thrones, etc. Finally to add that pop of color, In those days, most artists used natural colors that were produced out of vegetables and mineral dyes. Another interesting fact about products used is the real gold foil used to stick on the embossed areas of the painting. This prevents it from fading and provides lasting authenticity.
Reason #2- The detailing
While these paintings are made up of a rich splash of colors along with glittering gold overlaid on it to make it look delicate yet extensive in its working. They are also beautifully embedded with glass beads and tiny intricate pieces of precious gemstones. The dense composition invariably encompasses the surface richness making it stand tall among so many other forms of art. Artists these days have taken this old form and combined it with other art styles to create what is known as mixed media arts. While a Tanjore painting can ideally be designed and created on mirrors, glass, and even empty canvases, this creative idea of applying gold foil is unique to its nature as traditional art and is taken to recreate the same on different mediums.
Reason #3- The diversity
The subjects that these adorable paintings cover mostly revolve around the Hindu gods, goddesses, saints, several episodes from the Hindu mythology; small fairs, certain auspicious ceremonies as well as processions and highly elaborate festivals; The classification of castes, their diverse occupations and style of dressing and lastly the Indian flora and fauna, etc. These paintings are then carefully and meticulously executed by the same Tanjore artists in a style suited to meet the amplified western taste. There are in fact several instances from history that showcased the awe-inspiring subject fascination shown in perfect detail by these paintings especially the Jain, Sikh, Muslim as well as other religions and secular subjects. Nowadays, these Tanjore paintings have the greatest preference among art lovers who fancy adorning their walls with these elaborate paintings.
Reason #4- The history
The birth and conception of a Tanjore painting can be traced back to when the Marathas invaded Thanjavur. This then led to the migration of several skilled and individual artists to work under the Nayaks of Thanjavur. While the Maratha rule lasted for over two complete centuries, this art form continued to flourish under their patronage in the 16th to 18th century. The RAJUs in Thanjavur and the TRICHY as well as the NAIDUS in Madurai were the two major communities that stood to practice and promote this art.  After the decline of the long-ruling Maratha empire, the Chettiar community patronized these brilliant Tanjore artists. Following all this, the Britishers who had come to Thanjavore found value and potential in these artists and began to support them in producing more paintings.
Reason #5- The journey
In 2007–08, Thanjavur paintings cam to be recognized and validated as a Geographical indication by the Indian government. Though this great art style is still being practiced and promoted throughout the nation and abroad, the actual virtuosity and rigor of these treasured Indian paintings are still under-appreciated in the present day. however, these artists have kept the art alive by incorporating this conventional form of art and blending it with several modern styles. Today, Thanjavur art is also widely and popularly used on mirrors, glasses, and in so many other artistic places. The idea of having the traditional art of Thanjavur decorated with gold foil is what adds to its uniqueness; therefore the same style is now taken and recreated on other mediums these days.
